Guess, I’ll try WildStar. Heard it has some quality stuff, and most importantly, that it is more difficult/demanding than GW2, which let’s face it, is rather easy. Ordered it already!^^
What is “the Strain”? Can’t seem to find it anywhere on google.
I do understand the idea of being supportive etc. etc., but come on, guys. It’s not a matter of different opinions. These are facts speaking: within the 2 years of game’s existence, we’ve got hardly any quality, permanent content ( and please, do not even mention gem store ).
Sure, we may get it now, in Season 2, but it’s beyond any dispute that the first 2 years of the game’s existence were mediocre at most, mostly because of the bi-weekly updates which were poorly executed.
Yes, over the entire Season 2. Not on the first day. I don’t think I am overoptimistic. I think I am right on the spot. If ArenaNet don’t deliver, they will have problems. They said Season 2 will have mostly permanent content and they will focus more on content people want. Season 1 was a lot of testing what people wanted and what worked. Season 2 will be more of a complete thing and not a testing ground.
It would be funny if ArenaNet could say if I am overoptimistic or not.
Yes, they said S1 was a lot of testing, something I know several of us kept telling people but nobody listened. So yeah, it was…. lacking…
Precisely why the rest of us would be calling this a “forever beta” game ’cos of the first 2 “lacking” years.
it is found on the TP, gemstore = end game content.
Where’s the content you play on the gemstore?
you get to swipe the debit and credit card.
Haha, nice one!
I think you’d get many more votes if you put down something like this:
“1. Dwarves 2. Largos 3. Tengu 4. Skritt 5. Kodan”
For the purpose of the discussion, it doesn’t matter that dwarves would be rather unlikely atm.^^
36% play humans and you want the devs to waste time with more races???
Anyhow, Watchknights would be nice (though I know the concept of armor will not work with them).
Add, let’s say, dwarves and you’ll get 40% playing the dwarves.
Any well thought out race will get a solid, positive response.
There are two major issues I see with adding in a new race.
- Customizable in almost every aspect (facial features, body shape, etc.) So right off the bat, that eliminates almost every race listed; Tengu, Hylek, Skritt, etc. If Anet didn’t spend time making each one of X race dramatically different from one another, it isn’t likely to become a playable race.
- Capital cities and surrounding areas. I understand that there is some room on the map for a race to establish it’s capital, but after all that plus lore and all the other good stuff, there probably won’t be enough room to establish 1-10 zones, 10-25 zones, and so on and so forth. Unless people are fine with only having 2-3 zones to level the new race, this is probably not going to stick.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/thumb/e/e6/Tengu_concept_art.jpg/800px-Tengu_concept_art.jpg You were saying about tengu?
fixed
And this would be so awesome.
You guys are forgetting one thing: ANet clearly stated pre-release that Tengu was being designed as a playable race ( their captial also created in the DoW, next to LA ), models of weapons and armours fitted, but in the end, they decided to release only the races we have now.
So, I’m pretty sure that once they finally relase a new race ( hope so!!! ), it will definitely be the Tengu.
Introducing the megaserver in two weeks without reworking event scaling does not seem like a plan. It looks like a rushed emergency solution.
We all know the reason for that was the depopulation of some of the servers due to decreasing number of Western players overall.
And yes, it was rushed and terribly executed, leaving more problems than solving the decreasing playerbase.
why 3 pages of repeating posts?
It’s repeating because people keep following what the OP is doing: repeating the same thing over and over and dodging pertinent questions.
Does it have more rewarding end game content
Define rewarding.
re·ward·ing adjective \-?wo?r-di?\
: giving you a good feeling that you have done something valuable, important, etc.
: giving you money or profit
GW2 is an easy MMO, a casual type. Therefore, its “end game content”, however miserable it is, is not rewarding. For instance, Tequatl or 3 Headed Wurm are considered “end game content”, yet now that everyone does it on a daily basis ( I did when I was playing the game, together with a large multi-server guild that still exists, I believe ) as it’s nothing complex, the RNG is a joke. It has to be with such easy content.
On the other hand, if GW2 had the harder content, like GW1 for instance, or some hardcore raids like in other games, or was, generally speaking, more difficult as a game ( Lineage 2 up until Chronicles 4/5 ), it would reward you with a guaranteed, very rare drop. Why? Because, unlike in GW2, only few would be able to finish it.
That’s pretty much the understanding of the simple word “rewarding” with regards to “rewarding end game content” in MMOs.
GW2 has been extremely uneventful lately, with that said, I’m wondering what you all are doing with your time in game.
I personally am trying to stock up on things that I think will be in high demand in the future and just in general trying to accumulate funds. I’m not really the rp type or “just walk around and take in the sights” type myself.
How about you?
Checking the forums for something big, hopefully on 1 July. Not having high hopes anymore, though. Played it for 2 years now so I think it’s a good deal of time for such an MMO ( i.e. with crappy LS Season 1 ).
Otherwise, I’m playing WS atm, but tbh, I’m awaiting AA the most. Black Desert in 2015, which just looks like the best MMO in ages ( Assassin’s Creed mode on in an MMO!!! ).
LS2, will be your endgame content, geez.
“The achievements will be much more difficult to complete than those traditionally found in Season 1, and are intended to be challenging achievements for skilled players to overcome. Each achievement will award both achievement points and material rewards.”
There, now just wait.
The neverending “wait”, “be patient”, “just let them work”, “let them balance first”.
Mate, this game is 2-years old. Enough with the patience things.
It’ll be out in the first of July mate.
And the game isn’t 2 years old…. so yeah, chill.
You complainers have won out and anet is moving away from temporary content. The new LS is for lv80’s only… it’s permanent and endgame, you win.
Now stop complaining and wait to see what it’s like.
Oh, right, because when the game is 1 year 10 months old it’s not close to 2 years old, right? God…
You are being offensive towards those that were justified to call Season 1 a miserable piece of mostly temporary content and all they wanted was a change of attitude.
Now, approaching 1 July, we are promised to get “more difficult and more permanent content” within Season 2, but all the promises now should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Enough with calling someone’s names because they voice their opinion on the forums, mate – precisely where they should be doing that.
Either you participate in a discussion or offend someone because they voice their opinion here. The second one is not allowed here, though. Keep that in mind.

14k achievement points,
5 thousand PvP games
Ascended berserker gear
Insane gameplay
…but a ranger.
And getting kicked by four 2k AP warriors, which I know suck big time, but that’s better than no playing.
Thanks for that Anet. Gj on PvE balancing. And I though PvP was kittened up…
2 years old and the balance hasn’t moved a bit in the right direction since the game’s launch.
I come from the original Guild Wars background, too.
I find GW2 post-80 lvl a joke, unfortunately.
A dual class system of GW would probably be spot on. It was, next to Lineage 2’s system of classing ( the most advanced I have ever experienced ), the best thing I’ve seen in MMOs so far.
Pure brilliance.
A lot of people have mentioned quitting on these forums but please define quitting!
I dont consider myself to have quit. I still log in daily but for all of ten minutes to do the daily craft and daily home node gather, I join the guild for about an hour over the weekend for the guild missions and im usually around for the first 1-2 days of the LS.
I dont feel anything for the game, I hate the direction ANET are taking it in, I think its mindless and one-dimentional and hasnt achieved anywhere near its potential and never will. But its free to log in and play so I exercise that right. I wont be giving any financial help to ANET until major changes are made to the AI, the reward structure and a huge improvement in immersion. But im still logging in.
Why bother I hear you ask? Why not just quit? Well ive been waiting 12+ months for the game to live up to its potential so I guess you could say im still hoping.
About supporting Anet with our dollars.. I only have one thing to say.
I do not understand where this idea comes from. Yes, there are players that LOVE the game as is. I can understand that they support the game with gem purchases etc… they Love the game, and vote with their dollars.
But there is a group out there, that are vocal ablut their dissatisfaction, and yet will say things Like.." I spend Money, because Anet needs it."
…
Ok, so many are NOT happy with the game direction, or Anet’s decisions, but they continue to spend Money, at the gem store out of some Mistaken belief that it is THEIR responsibility to support Anet, as they flounder, hoping Anet discovers the right direction, and turns around and heads there?
Last time I checked the ONLY person responsible for seeing Anet through the self made Morass, is Anet.
And the intelligent thing to do, when an otherwise master Chef, working in a 5 star restaurant, serves you a crap sandwich is to stop spending money there, til you hear that he or she is back on the ball… and putting out dishes worthy of our money.
Precisely. People seem to be contradicting themselves.
Well… I tend to spend My money where I play. And My current opinion is…this game was awesome at launch…and each patch takes it further and further away from what I enjoyed. I think it is headed in the wrong direction. So at first I played, and didn’t buy. But… it is so hard to farm Gold consistently… that I saw myself Buying Gold with gems. So I decided if I am gonna spend money., I may as well spend it where I enjoy playing.
When I see that gw2 is headed in the right direction for me…….
I’ll return, and shop.
Pretty much why I’m still checking the forums regularly. Now, I play another game from NCSoft, but whenever I see that the game turns into the right direction – more permanent, explorable content, new classes, skills, weapons, weapon mixes and so on – at this point I don’t want to here anything of the “first, let them balance the existing classes properly”; it’s been 2 years now – I’ll definitely come back and give it a shot, again.
For now, the forums are where I see myself with regards to GW2.
Who else is super excited about the LW format updates?
- Bridging the disconnect between the PS and the LW has been one of the most badly needed polish-pieces since the LW began last year. Goodbye immersion breaking cognitive dissonance!
- It’s a smart business model. It’s totally optional, but even if you miss it and want it it’s a meager $2.50, which is low enough that you’re not paying it grudgingly but substantial enough to provide Anet with more revenue for more new content. Plus, it incentivizes players to log on while content is current to get it for free.
- More story telling UI in the game for a more immersive gaming experience in general.
- The level 80 requirement is awesome. Anet can now focus on designing content around end-game appropriate levels of challenge. Plus, it helps conceptually line up the PS and the LW in a way that makes sense (i.e. the chronology is clear).
- Goodbye soul-destroying achievement grinds, hello fun goodies.
- PERMANENCE! Too much temporary content makes it too easy for people to lose interest in the game when they inevitably get behind in the story and miss things. It also makes it feel like the world isn’t properly growing, which is something every MMO needs.
Yeah, I’m happier than I’ve been regarding the direction of this game in quite some time.
Only if it includes new explorable zone, maps, races, classes, skills, weapons/mixes – otherwise, the change of format does not make up for the lack of substance at all. It’s been 2 years, you know.
making the game harder and nerfing gold farming methods accomplishes two things
1. people who are dedicated players who like to farm for stuff will quite, making server load lighter
Or, you know, people who like to farm will have to look for a different place to farm. Like, you know, maybe the frostgorge champ train which was already more profitable than the queensdale one. The only champ trains that were destroyed were the ones in the lvl 1-15 zones. And besides, champtrain farming of any kind never was the fastest way to farm gold. Doing dungeons is far better for that.
2. people who aren’t so dedicated but still want gold will end up spending even more money on buying gold because it’s now impossible to make gold by playing the game
Or, people will have to find a different way to make money in the game. They still exist, they’re just slightly less mindnumbing.
it’s very easy to understand these kind of situations once you face the fact that it’s all about the money
You’re right that it is about the money, but you’re wrong about it being so easy to understand since you got it wrong about how it’s about the money.
They didn’t destroy the champtrain in queensdale to prevent players from making money (since there are still plenty of other ways to make money that made more than the champtrain in queensdale before the changes), they did it to adjust the experience of the game for new players and they’ve said as much. When a new player loads up the game and sets off into queensdale for the first time, their initial encounters with the champtrain can have a few negative affects. For one, players who mostly ignore the train and just go around doing what they encounter would often stumble upon one of the champs in the train and start trying to kill it. Then, when some one from the train noticed or show up to find their champ already dead, the new player gets accosted with all sorts of insults and negativity because their train was “ruined”. This leads to a very negative experience with the game and could make the player think that all this awful negativity is indicative of the community at large and lead them to quit. Secondly, a new player may stumble upon the champ train early on and become informed on how the champtrain works and being told that it’s a good way to level and make money and get caught up in doing it. They might end up leveling a great deal in just queensdale and make it a considerable way to 80 without ever really learning how to play the game or seeing what the game’s about. Then once they try other content, the state of their gear/traits/skill will leave them unequipped and everything will seem far too complicated and difficult because they’ve just been champ training for so long already. With the train killed, they likely won’t see or even hear about a champtrain until they are much higher level and have things more figured out.inb4 “omg how dare anet try to make money blah blah blah”
yes, anet deserves money for content. however, taking present content and making it harder is not content, and therefore not deserving of money.
it’s sad to say that i’m thinking about leaving too, for wildstar
This most recent couple of patches weren’t even pretending to be new content. The bazaar was intended to fill 3 primary purposes:
Give players who missed the bazaar and pavillion before a chance to do it.
Give players at least a little something to bridge the gap till Living Story Season 2 starts.
Give players who missed various meta-achievement rewards another chance to earn them. The “real content” starts coming out again July 1.
(inb4 Living Story isn’t content because it isn’t all permanent. Just because it isn’t content that you personally like and just because all of it isn’t permanent doesn’t mean it’s not content. Do people even know what the word content means??)
That’s why people say “permanent content”, not just “content”.
GW2 releases Story Journals: Feedback/Questions [Merged]
in Living World
Posted by: Corpus Christi.2057
I like the “unlockable with 200 gems” part of it.^^
New explorable zone, maps, races, classes, weapons/weapon mixes, skills – hope they’re all in Season 2. 2 years is enough for the “patience” part.:)
Well, obviously, they are not trying to lose them on purpose, but due to poor execution of Season 1 out of close to 4 mln players that bought the game, probably around 1.5-2 mln still log in into the game from time to time.
Just look at the stats that has been released only recently to see that the earnings from Europe alone dropped by around 50%, if I remember correctly.
I do hope they release an expansion-worthy piece of content via Season 2 this year, e.g. new explorable zones, races, classes, weapons, skills ( plethora, not just 2 or 3 for each class ). If at least half of these is introduced this Season, I’m going to log back in into the game for sure until some other game releases are out in 2014/15.
1. Chat with 9 guildmates out of once 214 that still “play” this game.
2. Awaiting official info regarding GW3.
3. Awaiting the release of AA, Bless and Black Desert Online.
I just wish Legendaries 2.0 are account bound to show players are accomplishing something rather than 1 click on TP to get it.
Don’t want to sound too sarcastic, that’s not my point at all, but to get 2000-3000 gold is quite an accomplishment, isn’kitten I hate farming, I do totally have utmost respect to those who crafted their legendaries, but I was doing a lot in order to overcome my hatred towards farming in order to collect 3000 gold for my legendary. More than farming I hate crafting, so I hope you do understand me.
Look back into Lineage 2 up to Chronicle 3-4 and you’ll see what the MMORPG genre misses the most. Also, you’ll know why many call Lineage 2 the best MMORPG game ever.
Just for the record, regarding the financial side of the original Guild Wars.
From an interview with Eurogamer in 2007:"
Eurogamer: Guild Wars has been supported with lots of new expansion packs, perhaps to make up for the lack of subscription fees. Is this something you want to continue to do in Guild Wars 2?Ben Miller: The Guild Wars business model has worked really, really well for us. We’re blown away by the success of the first game. We were three guys with an idea and now we’re a 130 person company supporting one of the biggest online role-playing games in the market.
We’re certainly not going to turn our back on the business model that got us here. It was really refreshing for players and carved out a niche in the market that is completely unsatisfied by any other games. I think you’ll see us do a lot of similar things with Guild Wars 2.
"(source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/the-best-things-in-life-are-free-interview?page=2)
The reason that they decided to do GW2 instead of more expansions was most likely entirely because they had a lot of visions for the game that just couldn’t be accomplished in GW. Sadly, the people who had those visions have since left the company.
Yep, they left, unfortunately. Maybe they’ll come up with new games, though? Who knows, only time will tell!:)
Why the hate? I wouldn’t call it “hate”, as I still have faith in the GW games, but I’ll try to answer you nevertheless:
Because the game doesn’t live up to the expecations people have had thereto.
As long as Season 2 happens to be of the GW1-campaign weight, i.e. possible new explorable zones, maps, classes, races, plethora of new skills, weapons ( mix existing ones ) and so on, I would be willing to forgive the ANet devs their Season 1. Maybe. I’m still hoping for that, although lots of my friends of once 214-people guild left for good and only 12 of us is left.
I’d just like to remind everyone that GW1’s sold 8 mln copies and the only reason why GW2 was actually created is because they had had too much stuff planned for another GW1 expansion that they thought it’d be better to just release a new game.
I remember the days when each new campaign had utterly ruined GW1 to the point where no one played it any more. Balance across all game modes was completely, irreparably ruined by new classes and skills. All the new areas were horrible to navigate, had terrible mechanisms locking you out of parts to force you to grind through the whole storyline. New PvP modes were only ever farmed by bots because no real people would ever want to play them. And then to top it off the addition of heroes killed any hope that was left by turning GW1 into a single player game that was entirely for farmers.
Good times.
I agree, I’d like to see how Anet can completely ruin GW2 forever with an expansion. (I’ve heard Blizzard have managed to drive away every single player they had 4 times and are on track to do it a 5th time. I’m sure Anet could top them if they wanted to.)
On the other hand I’ve heard Season 2 is going to include some things players have wanted for a long time like more permanent content and a new zone (not confirmed but strongly implied) and I’m looking forward to how that will ruin the game forever too, it seems unlikely given that it’s exactly what players want but they’ve pulled it off before.
Doesn’t sound like you even remotley passed by GW1 or any of it’s campaigns/expansion.
Numbers never lie. See the numbers behind GW1, its campaigns and an expansion.|
I’ll sum it up for you: the number of players quadrupled with the release of the first and the second campaign as compared to the original Guild Wars 1. Not to mention, just browse through random websites and you’ll see that the campaigns and the expansion have higher ratings than the original game.
Nothing more needed to disprove your argument.
(edited by Corpus Christi.2057)
Don’t get me wrong, but judging by what has happened in those 2 years of GW2 life, I wouldn’t get your hopes too high, after second thought.
After all, if it takes two years to, possibly, open a new explorable zone, and then again, by current state of affairs, fill the game up with cheap and poor quality-wise content the whole year, it’s nothing “phenomenal”. It’s “ok”, but is it enough for the people that have been lamenting over the game? Quite justly, I have to say.
We shall see what the future holds for us.
2 years after the game’s premiere – it’d better be a portal to a new, permanent explorable map! #fingerscrossed
Brisban Wildlands has 2 impossible to access Zone portals currently. Big hint at where it’s going to lead.
So Maguuma Jungle, you say? Could you give me a wp location of those portals? I’ll log in into the game just out of sheer curiosity.:)
Thanks in advance!
2 years after the game’s premiere – it’d better be a portal to a new, permanent explorable map! #fingerscrossed
Lineage was too grindy for me. Im hoping Wildstar keeps my interests for a few years, or if all else fails, everquest next…thats probably the last dip into an MMO Id make unless we get a WoW 2 or something at that point.
Lineage was meant to be grindy, but at the same time it was both thrilling and rewarding. E.g., when crafting, you had a percentage chance to craft something or fail. Nothing like here when you take it for granted. So, indeed, you had to grind and gather loads of resources just to be sure that one of those 3, 4 or 5 attempts at crafting were successful.^^ I loved that risky business!
As to WS, I’ve got my pre-order! Waiting for a headstart in 3 days time!:P
Well, let’s be honest, if WoW2 comes out, any MMO game will get empty.
@cesmode Totally agree both with you and the OP. I loved the idea of GW2 at the beginning, but with time, the direction taken by the devs proved to be demolishing for the game.
I do hope, though, that GW3 is better thought out in advance.Only thing they can do is improve GW2. I say it for over a year now and keep repeating it. There main problem is the cash-shop focus. 2 other big problems is the quick and dirty solutions (development term), most in your face examples are instanced maps and invisible walls but many of the bugs are likely also coming from that as well. Lastly wanting to be different just for the sake of being different and being stubborn about it.
GW3 would likely sell really good so improve those core problems and then we might end up with a better product. Don’t and we might end up with a failed product.
I dont think the “in your face” cash shop marketing and ads are essentially a problem. Its annoying, and its definately noticeably being pushed at you when you load up the launcher. But its not a game breaking experiencing killing issue.
Things like dev direction, mechanics, etc…those are gameplay breaking. Sigh. The game launched and was so fantastic. I was in heaven. Finally a game made for someone like me. Then they turned their focus to the new tier of gear, and then living story. All attention from open world DEs that the game launched with, and dungeons and all..all of that attention shifted to ascended and LS. Everything that I truely enjoyed was and still is neglected. 2 years later, parts of the core that the game launched with are neglected because arenanet has a vision, because they know better than we do. They say they listen, but really they just hear noise from us and ignore everything we are telling them.
And don’t hold your breathe on GW3
We are only 2 years into GW2. If they had any aspirations for GW3, I think they could start thinking of concepts in the next 2 years, but dev will take 5…so at earliest, 2019 or 2020. By that time, Im done with MMOs(or I better be).
Besides, after all the people they burned with GW2, all of the core Guild Wars fans, do they really want to take a stab at another Guild Wars game?
Haha, you may be right, but it’s not like I’m bound to GW franchise only, so it doesn’t hurt to have any hopes regarding it. I’m ordering ArcheAge beta soon, and deep inside, I do hope for the continuation of the best MMO in history – Lineage 2. And I don’t mean Lineage Eternal, but a true Lineage 3. Hopefully, it’s out one day!
Cheers!:)
The reason it keeps being deleted is because he wants to stop getting gold spammers. However I think it is a feature that should be added regardless. And I think the OP is only getting infractions based on people false reporting because this is a totally valid suggestion.
The infraction system on GW2 forums is a joke nevertheless. Abused by random haters on the forums all the time.
I agree, though, it’s a valid suggestion.
(edited by Corpus Christi.2057)
@cesmode Totally agree both with you and the OP. I loved the idea of GW2 at the beginning, but with time, the direction taken by the devs proved to be demolishing for the game.
I do hope, though, that GW3 is better thought out in advance.
To be honest, the “permanent content” will 100% surely come. There are way too many new map entrances that are currently blocked, and too many already mentioned areas on the universal map that haven’t been opened yet. Only ONE Dragon has officially been “vanquished”. A new one was added to fight. There’s plenty of GW2 universe to be expanded upon. Just wait for it, for it will surely come in due time.
Can you seriously tell me that you don’t expect them to open up all of those inaccessible areas in the future (those will be tons of maps!) I actually am even hoping they open the Torment Realm (not on the official map, of course) at some point, which was fun back then.
Adding in new maps does not mean the temporary LS content becomes permanent. People ask for expansions or some for expansion-like content. That’s asking for maps and new races and so on. However when people ask for the LS to not be temporary anymore it’s exactly that. The LS not being a patch that releases some temporary available content, activities and rewards.
You’ll see-eventually many more maps will-open up.
If after nearly 1.75 years they have yet to do so (aside from Southsun), what makes you so sure they will in the future?
He’s betting. It’s a sound bet, though, for a simple reason: if it doesn’t happen, the game dies. Why? People’s been complaining about lack of solid, fresh and expansion-worthy permanent content for months now. The devs must have noticed it by now. It’s both a bet and a hope.
Here, on this forums, the vast majority of players consider GW1 superior in all aspects, not just few, to GW2. I’d love to see where your opinion comes from, though, as your view is rather striking to me.
It is not about nostalgia since I stopped playing the game long time ago knowing it was time to leave it, just like I left WoW after many years of playing.
It’s more about being objective, and by that there is no possible way to even have an opinion of the above, i.e. that quality-wise GW2 is better. It is just not right to say so. Why? Look at the random dialogues from GW1 story and GW2 living story – the latter feels as if it were made for 10-year-old children to please the masses, while GW1 was meant to be a niche game, which ironically, still sells better than GW2.
Furthermore, double class system, the variety in between builds, classes, variety and looks of skins and weapons – all that, even in spite of time, still looks and feels better in GW1.
The best way to illustrate this is to just start the GW1 and look at the ranger mechanic of the bow. There, in GW1, an arrow is taken from the back of the character and placed on the bowstring, while in GW2 you don’t see an arrow being placed on the bowstring – you can see it fired only. It is truly astonishing to see such a thing in a game that is so much older than GW2.
Overall, GW1 was better thought a game, undoubtedly. Although you may have some personal views regarding GW2 being better in some aspects, overall, as a game, it is hardly so to evidence it, I think.
To sum up, not being too much of a pessimist, I am aware that all this “dumbed down” content and idea of GW2 was to please the masses and get as many people into the game as possible, but unfortunately, for those remembering the times of advanced mechanics and complexity of some of the older MMOs like Lineage 1/2, EverQuest or even WoW ( which is now dumbed down, too, after recent game reworks demanded by “masses of players” ). Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s made for stupid people or children, I’m just saying we’re not going to see games as ambitious as they once were, all due to the idea of pleasing the masses and getting as much income as possible.Again, I do not mean to offend but it seems just bias confirmation in your case. Your friends happen to agree with your stance, which then seems to reinforce the idea that “most” GW1 players must dislike GW2.
Then again, as I stated, it’s your right to wholly prefer GW1 on each and every account; but you are assuming a lot by saying “most GW1 players” must think the way you do. Even I wouldn’t say that “most GW1 now prefer GW2”. In fact, many players will be biased against GW1 if they already have a bias against “modern” MMORPGs, which you seem to be. And that’s fine too (I myself and not a true fan of the classic MMORPG-GW2 actually removes some of the parts I dislike about them). But since they are so different, it’s more of an apples and oranges situation than a fair, equal comparison. GW1 was great, and so is GW2, they are just different kind of beasts (though you may disagree on the latter, which is OK.)
I do not mean to derail the thread, so let’s just agree to disagree and leave the OP to his/her thread, which BTW I think is unnecessary, but the moderators do have the last word.
(I can give a DEFINITE thing GW1 has over GW2, that is not related to game being different types-the camera view on GW2 is honestly pretty badly implemented! Whatever camera they used for GW1 works better. Their final choice of camera technology should be revised, IMHO. It just doesn’t work on close encounters/close to walls.)
(The new targeting system is also a bit faulty, but that may indeed be part of it being “MMORPG” and GW1 being simpler-I do prefer that when I press on “target nearest” it ALWAYS targets nearest, even if it’s not on camera view-but that my conflict with what MMORPG people are used to, which is too bad for many of us.)
(I am also sorry if I have misrepresented you or assumed things that you don’t believe in. Just carry on, and don’t mind me anymore.)
As I am a lawyer, pardon me for trying to point to your logical and argument-construing mistakes, but where in my previous posts did I mention any of my friends? I have never mentioned that. I mentioned the prevailling topics in the recent months comparing GW2 to other MMO games, inter alia, GW1. You may have been abstent, so this misunderstanding on your part is forgiven.
Please, stick to the words that I de facto use, otherwise the discussion is pointless.
Plus, I am not sure you are aware of the meaning of “confirmation bias”. Finally, as your conclusion based on using the words I have never spoken or written is incorrect nevertheless, the confrimation bias is misued by your here, too.
Cheers

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s made for stupid people or children, I’m just saying we’re not going to see games as ambitious as they once were, all due to the idea of pleasing the masses and getting as much income as possible.

GW2 is a “dumbed down” version of GW1. Don’t expect anything of the GW1 complexity level. Games like Lineage 2 until chronicle 4/5 or GW1 within first 3-4 years are gone and won’t be coming back. Why? Nowadays, you create games for the greatest audience possible, hence childish dialogues/living story of GW2, a few classes without subclasses/double class system and so on.
I wish it was here, again, but let’s be honest. Those games are gone now, I won’t be expecting them to come back, unless we see the actual Lineage 3 ( no the Diablo 3-esque sequel to Lineage 1. Well, ArcheAge looks close too, as it was created by the Lineage 2 devs.
Still, I wouldn’t be too hopeful for those things to return, mate.
People do not complain about the fact of it “being possible or probable”, but the fact that after almost 2 years time, none of this de facto happened, while let’s say in GW1, already after 6 months time twice the permanent content of GW2 that you received within those 2 years had been added. Not to mention that quality-wise, it had been superior, too.

“guys GW2 is really good at the moment” – sorry, but i see too many “see you later”-posts from my long playing guildmates, that contradicts your opinion.
And I see too many returning players and new players that contradicts your opinion.
I suggest you go back to the numbers published some time ago for Q1 2014 for total/GW2 earnings in EU/NA. There, you’ll see a dramatic drop in earnings for EU as compared to Q4 2013.

Not to mention a dramatic drop in earnings from EU market that was evidenced a week or so ago here on forums. One could have expected that after what the OP’s said: 2 years is way too long to satisfy an average demanding consumer nowadays with tiny, easy, cheap and temporary bi-weekly updates. While I admired the idea of the LS at the beginning, its execution’s turned out to be one of the worst mistakes I’ve seen in MMOs since the time that Lineage 2 dropped its quality with post chronicles 4/5 changes.

If they add staff, shield and hammer for Rangers, I’m back for good! <3 GW1 in GW2, I’m waiting!!!
You’ve put forward some valid points, OP.
GW > GW2 all the way. Wish they ’d just made GW2 as “GW with upgraded engine and mechanics”. Would prolly be among best MMOs in history, like Lineage 2, WoW and the very special GW.
I’ll see you in another game, I guess! Enjoy the summertime now. Hot weather, beaches, sand, kittentails, ladies, party nights and so on!^^
How did you miss the obvious sign of the decreasing Western ( EU ) population?
The creation of the Megaserver.
Enough said.
The fact that there’s no farm and ONE zerg hitting ONE boss does not mean it’s not a zerg content. It, de facto, is a pure zerg content since all you need to do is to zerg different bosses at the same time.
Fin.
