heres the thing people… guilds were never meant to be less then 5 people. the fact you are able to have less then that in a guild was not Anets intention. Their mistake is allowing it to continue. Guild content is for a guild, not a party of 5 or less. And thinking anet has to make real world decisions because of fantasy lore is absolutely preposterous!
I understand your delima, ive been there, but if you go out and recruit 5-10 people out of the millions playing, you can accomplish anything the game throws at you.
I dont have a problem with this gold and ecto sink here… what I am bothered by is they have placed an achievement on buying 100 of the ascended level items that cost 100g and 250 ectos each. And all you get is a personal portal that teleports you from where you are to the gamble skrit… really? “here, spend an outrageous amount of gold here, and we will reward you with the ability to spend even more money faster in the future!”
I did 200 ascended rolls, ended up with enough component to make a forge conduit, and made ~2000g after selling all my extra ectos.
Obviously this is not a representative sample, but 200 rolls was a pretty good amount.
so you spent 20k gold and ended up wit h2k? or was it 22k you ended up with? what was your beggining ecto count? what did you end with?
you may not be the only small guild that feels that way, but i guarantee you there are not enuff of you to become the focus over the larger guilds. thats just a fact, not trying to belittle your situation. I disagree with you… because you are small you should not be entitled to the same things a larger guild has… I cant expect to get the same tax break a major corporation gets. nor should i get the same tax break a family of 6 gets, for my family of three. That is the biggest problem with todays society… they want everything everyone else has but dont qualify to get it. you want the benefits of being a large business owner… well… start a business and grow it.
I understand your frustration Lanfear… really I do. My guild started out the same way yours did… for about a year, my small band of friends 3 manned fractals till we were blue in the face. we 3 manned dungeons and all content to the point we finally said…“why are we killing ourselves for hours on end?” So what we did was recruited 5 random people. Then we watched to see who stuck around and who left. Sometimes it was all 5,sometimes it was just 2, but we kept recruiting small to make sure we didnt get a large influx of people who didnt fit in. and you know what? we now have a guild that there are 10+ on regularly that we are all friends with. and to boot, we made friends with a few other guilds in that time, and now if we are ever short on doing anything that takes alot of people, we have friends outside the guild that are more then willing to pitch in or lend us a few members. is mt experience not as good if It wasnt all just my guild doing whatever it was… no…. not in the least. I got to spend time with friends and build stronger bonds with those around me.
it only took about 2 weeks to build our membership up to about 30 members. and at any given time, 10 of them are on with the rare oddball occasion of late nights where there are just a few on. Im not saying you have to go out and invite every tom kitten and harry to your guild… but be observant, see if there are a few that could possibly fit your mold. I challenge you to invite 5 new players every week and see what it does for you. Heck, try only 3 if thas more your style, but do it. I guarantee within a few weeks you will have fresh eager blood in your guild that may turn into a really good thing.
I would venture to guess it would work something like an instance does now. we all gather at a place to go to an instance, we get ported there, invite friends thru the party then leave party, rinse repeat? Just a guess tho.
I’m not trying to sound uncaring, but this game wasn’t built to work around 3 man guilds… or even 5 man guilds. It has been stated already that its initial design was for 10+. I understand Anet is trying to accommodate your size, however I feel you should be making equal effort to grow your guild to help as well. and as stated a few times before, there are still things you can already do to get what you need to take the guild hall. That includes getting the favor needed to deco after as well.
Keep in mind here that YOU are choosing to restrict your guild to 3 players… it doesnt have to be that way. Add more friends… if you dont have any, make an effort to make a few new ones then. you have several months at current estimation to get them. It was never Anets intention to have 1-3 man guilds. Another idea is to team up with another small guild your size, and maybe help each other take a guildhall, that way you were important to theirs and they are important to yours… maybe even stay teamed up and combine guilds if you become friends?
To me it just seems like you want all the benefits of a large job… without being a large crew… If you want the same million dollar payout of a large business’s job, you cant expect to get it as a 3 man business and earn as much as a larger business doing 3 times the work…
I have 8 in my guild atm, only 2-3 of us ever seem to be on. People have lives, jobs, family, school…so its hard to coordinate.
You assume I have never tried to grow my guild, which is an inaccurate assumption. Twice previously we’ve grown, upwards of 30 players at one point. However, all it takes is one person to rip it apart, and having been stabbed in the back twice now, yes I’m rather a bit more picky about who is allowed into our little circle.
I’m sorry I’m not one of those facebook people that just accepts everyone that requests a friend invite so that I can have a body count to make myself feel better. Some of us just don’t function that way.
I’m sorry, but insecurity about your leadership capability does not mean I should have my guilds experience cheapened to accommodate you. Would I like for all guilds to be able to do the content and do it solely by themselves, sure… is that gonna happen? Not without punishing large guilds by making them irrelevant or nullifying their accomplishment. If you want the big boy toys… be a big boy. ( i.e get off your laurels and make new friends so you can grow your guild.) besides, as mentioned before, Guild wars wasn’t designed to have 1-3 man guilds. Might as well change the name to PartyWars 2 if were gonna go down that road.
I am not saying Anet isnt going to try to help you out where they can, but it comes down to plain statistics… your guild = very very very small minority. the remainder are their focus. They are not gonna jeopardize a million dollars to save 10,000… But as I said before, they will do their best to do what they can for you without risking the rest.
Edited to add: Everyone will have to do the actual mission to capture the guild hall once per hall though no matter what.
So… can we have both guild halls?
no, you will have to be a part of at least 2 guilds to be able to use both types, including its armor/weapon sets.

well, technically we were getting a good deal all along… at least for the ultimate edition. 4000 gems = $50 and a char slot = $10 for a cost of everything else left at $40. So divide $40 into the skins, guildhall item, mini rytlock and the expansion. Now its even better as it is $50 for the 4k gems, $20 for the slots, leaving $30 to divide into the remainder stated above…. Technically you are paying $30 for the game and expansion unless you deduct for the fluff…
hehehe… thats cute, you think we have rights to anything anet does in a pre sale… i dont dispute your right to buy or not to buy, but we cant demand them to hand over information like that.we dont have the right.
i think it was holding a good deal of people back tbh… glad to see the change, but keep in mind for the future… they likely wont give you a char slot again.
And I already feel like I’m playing a MMO by myself because the community is so toxic that I’ve literally made it a point not to speak to anybody unless in a combat situation ,or asked something in the first place.
Make a comment about the HoT subject: People cussed me for hours in map chat, followed me from area to area, whispered me until I had to resort to blocking people.
Made a comment that 4 people fighting one warrior and never dropping him below 90% hp was kind of BS: Cussed, called a “kittentard” for hours on end, followed around, left PVP lobby and the whispers are STILL going on (Been about 30 minutes). This was after I made a point to say that I am INDEED new to the game and that it was entirely from a new player standpoint. (My GW2 Icon is flashing up a STORM right now from whispers.)
I’m honestly considering just muting everything but the system chat and taking solace that the game’s damage numbers won’t threaten my life, threaten to molest my children (Not that I have any) or spew constant vulgar insults at me.
Does anybody else feel like this? I feel like I might as well not even have bought the game. The reason you play an MMO is to meet new people and enjoy yourself. I feel like I’m tiptoeing around because no matter what I do, the entire map is just WAITING to blow up and just crap on anybody who dares speak.
Now, don’t get me wrong. If somebody is low enough to go around cussing somebody, trashing them and trying to make a scene, I’m not going to take that person seriously. The problem is that I CANT SEEM TO FIND ANYBODY ELSE WHO IS -WORTH- PLAYING WITH.
Level 17, human and the quest areas are empty. I think I maybe see…10 people a day?
I thought mega-servers meant all those “full” servers would be sharing some people to play with…
._.;
Not sure if serious.
So you decide to:
A.) address the just about most toxic current topic in map chat and are amazed people are trying to lynch you?
B.) make comments about class balance when you clearly have absolutely no experience with the game and or it’s classes and you’re amazed people are annoyed at your remarks?
Know the proverb:“What goes around, comes around.”?

Your problem seems to be one of attitude. Have you ever considered that others view you as NOT-WORTH-PLAYING WITH? In general the consensus is that if you remain polite and respectful towards others, you’ll get greeted and supported. Then again, start of with the vocabulary you used and weighing in on discussion you should have stayed clear or, results may vary.
I don’t quite agree with this. Players should not belittle other players simply because they discuss a topic they are new at. Every player has the right to form and express their own opinion about the game, cuz well… they paid for it. Telling someone they have no business talking about an aspect of the game simply cuz they are new is IMHO shortsighted and ludicrous. And you are quite welcome to have the opposing opinion of this, but that in no way endears you with the definitive answer, sole authority or deny others the ability to discuss the issue.
just my 2 cents of course.
yea at the cost of other high value materials… i for one dont like throwing obi shards to just store useless junk mhmm.
maybe they should introduce a higher storage number for those specific items in the stash area… say 30k or 50k
I dunno…. your still spending 5 bucks on a rock… then and now… except now, its a pixel rock…. meh.
your kidding right…. a rock… a kittenin ROCK??? you want gems for that kitten OMG lol!!!
not sure voxel would be the right thing to use here. I know the design team has a set of tools they can use to map create with. maybe just allowing those tools to be used within a defined and limited spaced instance would be what would work here for you guys. Im good with a pre made hall or a customizable one. but knowing Anets past history with effort into the game… likely whats easiest will be whats done.
Hero Points & old characters: breach of trust

I have 14 toons, I’ve done map complete on 7 of the 8 individual professions. It took some time and dedication, but I’m ready for any and all trait unlocks that will come. I realize I have spent a lot of time others may not have, but in the end, I tend to only play 2-3 of my characters consistently, which is all you need really do to make this work for you.
Keep feeding it with a smile and those 20 silvers will keep adding up. One day you’ll break even and you can start reaping the rewards of your labor.
at 4-5 a day it would take years before you broke even…. Anet just needs to reduce the amount of this material dropping as all the other things you need to make your ascended stuff is time gated anyways. Ive made one toon with max inventory just to hold as overflow. playing the inventory management wars 2! Keep Smilin’!
I was lucky enuff to have a guild that was getting the mats already and selling them. was able to make it relatively cheap minus the time sync and all… but yea, Anet is greedy they want everything to take money out of the economy and out of your pockets too. seems of late every QoL implementation requires significant investment for little to no reward…..
Man… i been spending my laurels on recipes and t6 mats all this time… guess I should save a few and buy some new ammys hehehe.
I’ve converted a few boosters into useful ones, the speed booster is good, the karma and MF ones are nice, even thought they dont work on 90% of the items dropped in game… Karma boost is nice when running the karma train in wvw, so is the wvwxp boosters. Crafting boosters are the most useful to the lower levels or to those going for grand artisan achieve… I would like to see one for the champ bags, but I know in asking for that they would have to nerf the amount of bags dropping to keep from tanking the economy…
to be honest I think the vast majority of people farming the bags are after the off chance they might get that pre or super rare item to sell to make gold to further fund their legendary/rare skin habit.
As far as new boosters and ideas go, make them all a selectable type to save inventory slots and less for server to have to keep track of on anets side. use a drop down box like they do on legendary selectable stats, instead of making us spend real money to change them to something we want. greedy…
ok I will take up the torch again and BUR… i mean press on to see if i can reclaim my former GLOR… i mean gems. hehehe
konig, were those names of people that worked at Anet or contributed to the development of the game in some way? just curious as it was my understanding they did things like that for the staff of the game. I could be wrong in that assumption though.
Sorry to hear that man… always sucks losing friends.. especially tragically.
I can get behind something like this as long as it is a part of an instanced environment, such as a guild hall. I dont think they could acquiesce to something like this in an open world setting though, as you would have everyone in their mother wanting to do this for the same reasons or just to see a name immortalized in a game.
I sent them an email through the support option on the website. Never got a response at all. I did none of the other things you listed. In using the online support I submitted a request but never got a response from the listing.
I guess I could try again, but my point of the topic was, Anet had given me warning that I could not do something, but later removed that warning resulting in something unintentional happening. I never understood why the warning was still listed on every other limited use item available… except the bank tab expansion tokens. it is still showingthis way even today.
heres one for ya… bank expansion slots… I bought the 11 extra slot tokens from the gem store, and upon buying the 11th, the item description said “you have purchased the maximum Amount of these that you can use” and would not let me purchase another one. A month later, that description on that token disappeared, but still remained on the nodes I had bought and finishers I had gotten, and funny enough, on the inventory expansion tokens and collections expansion tokens as well. but it was gone for the bank tab expansion. So i thought to myself, hmm, maybe they are allowing you to expand further now. So like a newb, i tried to buy another one, and guess what? IT LET ME! I began to get excited and immediately tried to use it, only to find I had been hornswagled… I contacted Anet by email and told them of the problem, but got 0 response. Now Im out 800 gems, still holding a useless bank expansion slot token, and no way to settle it.
sounds like construction work to me…
Maybe… but 25 sdtacks of vuln right now is pretty powerful as it is. if you can generate a stack of 20+ you can down the orr champ or vet giants rather quickly…
What I got from the post was “go big or go home…” in other words… you will have to stack a kittenlaod of a condition type to make it worth while to play any type of condi build at all…. to hit that 700 dmg mark takes 15 stacks and at that point he says you are breaking even. I dont know about some of the rest of you, but when I play anythingthat is not condi build, i rarely get or maintain 15 stacks of anything. If I play a build focused on that condi, then yes I can get a bit more and maintain it. But doingthat requires full dedication to the build forcing a player to play a certain build to be effective.
I can see the appeal of being 1 in hundreds… little risk, decent reward, accomplishment of higher end goals. Look, there are alot of casual gamers here. most only have a few hours or less to play a day, and some people want to relax and play, not get caught up in elitism and hardcore tactics. for some folk they like doing it this way cuz they dont have to invest alot of critical thinking and stress on their downtime. Some folks prefer the challenge, some just want to escape into another world for a few hours and just run around… where as its easy to accomplish goals at the same time, just makes it all the more appealing to those players.
You know… you could be on to something….. We DID roll a swamp almost every time the end fight ends up being Mia Trin. But I cant forgo that conclusion as solid, as we have also started out in the underwater fractal and ended up at Mia Trin as well. The latter was definitely less often though for sure.
cmon guys, there are still a lot of players that are learning how to do 50’s and the higher content. Not everyone can be an expert in 50 runs…. Just because they dont adhere to your particular brand of what should be, doesnt mean they cant get the job done. Case and point, a guard friend and I went into a lvl 40 that required you to ping your bers gear… so we both pinged a set of berserk gear and wore an identical set of PVT gear for the entire fractal with no consequences… its all about the player, not what stat you rock.
I will be honest gaile… the biggest reason I see people rushing to get to 80 used to be so they wouldn’t have to spend gems to get the FREE content that was promised them with the living story…. the fact Anet charges for that content is really a major factor in that. (and IMHO is not right for it to be a pay to play since it was supposed to be part of the free updated content that was the selling point of the game to begin with.)
I must have terrible luck then…honestly its more like 70% atm, but I seem to get her a hell of a lot more then any of the other boss events. anyone know what makes the determining factor on what boss you get? is it combined group chance, instance owners roll?
I dont mind her either, but when you eat ice cream all day everyday for years… you get kinda tired of doing it and want to eat something else for once…
Can we PLEASE fix the final fractal rolls so Mia Trin isnt the one rolled 99.99999999999% of the kittening time?!?!?!
problem with the invisible mode is that it blocks EVERYONE from sending you messages. I can send a whisper out to a friend but they cant reply cuz it will block them. Also what if I want to just exclude people from seeing that i am online, say a particular annoying friend etc that you only want occasional chat with? there needs to be a way you can block specific people from seeing your info and online availability is all Im sayin.
thats my point khisanth… you can buy endgame strait out of the gate… you get bored quicker and faster. there is no reason to limit the mats if the final result is purchaseable… unless there are other monetary reasons for doing so… And come off it.. you know as well as I that there are alot of things in this game simply put in place to take up a players time. Those are what I am talking about as time wasters…

“The only thing that seems to have been clearly communicated is that Anet is not interested in creating dungeons and as a general practice they don’t like making armors because you have to make 1 for each armor type.”
This disturbs me and leads me to believe what I was thinking is coming true. and that is they have assigned a skeleton crew to manage the slow death of the game. Game makers that typically reach the point where they can no longer deliver what was promised , or begin scaling back on cosmetic items due to lack of resources/time usually means they have downsized the development staff by a significant amount.
Now I hope this is not the case, and there is an argument to be made that it is not in a decline, but I see these signs, and it reminds me of other MMO’s that started out this way and slowly whittled away till finally they shut down the servers altogether….
I think the OP has a valid point. I play with people and their are times where I just need a break from the group or guild or friends on my list, and it would be nice to be able to log on without feeling compelled to say hi to certain people or groups etc… I know there is an invisible option, but often times its just a few people that I dont want them to know I am online, while others I may still want to talk to. It would be nice if online status only showed people on your friends list if they were online or not. people on followers or block list dont need to know that info, cuz they can always shoot an email off to the person, and that person can choose to respond or not.
I think that is part of his point tho… you CAN buy a legendary, but not all the sub components to make it.
you can buy the mystic coins, t6, lodestones, the ectos, the individual parts for the gift of whatever weapon is needed… hell you can even get around some of the account bound stuff by just donating gold to the person to buy the icy runes and what have you.
There are ones you cant buy, like the stuff requiring skill points and obi shards. and as far as I know those are in place for the sole purpose of making a player play the game in order to gain them… IE time wasters… but that is all negated if you can just buy the end result with gold… why waste time gaining skillpoints and obis if you can just throw gems at it and bypass the whole process?
Pretty sure that anyone against content being added to a game that desperately needs content because you don’t like a common MMO game mode or don’t enjoy that mode & would actually advocate against it’s addition…..? I can’t think of a reasonable reason why? – Eldermash >.O lol
there we go, now that makes sense…. again.
wtb raids. thank you. – Eldermash
There, fixed that for ya… you don’t speak for me or the entire community.
yes they are being removed until next fall
The biggest problem I see with mounts is the fact WoW has incorporated them already for years, and it would feel too much like WoW if they did this. Its just not this games style. Something new, like rail cars on a specific track or zip lines might be a better option to consider. Nothing that would allow the character to move it or make an unknown destination.

The reddit thread had a followup from Devon Carver,
“I wouldn’t read too much into this. In that we’ll announce a date when there is a date to announce.”
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/38426o/steve_fowler_in_building_a_competitive_game/
I think that is purely damage control to try to rollback the surprise. That wasnt a slip up like the poster said… he deliberately said this summer cuz it was likely the targeted date that was discussed in private meetings he was privy to, and just got caught up in the moment not realizing he was saying what he was saying…..
well, considering that LOSing usually ends up with the group stacking behind a small outcropping to getthe mob to come to them… and end up beeting its rear end in the same spot… Id call that stacking. but tomato tomahto…
