I can never agree with taking existing old standard “Features” removing them from you and then placing them behind an xp grind wall as prestegious or new content tbh… but you can call it whatever you like.
I didnt do all my grind in one session. I split it up into halves… did 3 hours sunday and 3 hours monday. It was tolerable for me that way… if i had done it all in one go Iwould have been a bit burned out i think. I burned thru like 70 boosters overall i think. stil got a full stack of the multiboosters left to waste on whatever they come out with next too! i only used 7 of my celebration boosters (the 1 hour ones), and still have 64 left. Havent touched any of my birthday boosters yet, got 35 of em left.
I tried it for a bit to do rank 1 legendary and a pact commander rank and it’s insanely boring and I feel bad for people who are addicted to it. It’s borderline botting as well since some admitted to just holding their button down with something and AFKing so I wouldn’t be surprised if they removed it. I don’t see any harm other than that since you can actually just play the game normally and have fun and still max the masteries pretty easily + get loot, karma, etc at same time. If they wanna hurt themselves doing the boring kill grind for several hours straight then whatever.
some might say the same about running tyria content they have been recycling thru for the last few years… to me thats every bit as boring as sittin in one place for a few hours killing mobs. It does take patience tho.
You’ll still have to do all those things anyways for da booty.
maybe… depends on what you value with your time. For me I wanted the ability to not have to cramp my finger pressing the f button in the mad kings lab, so I opted to take the hit on the chin with not getting loot out of the 4 hour grind. Then when I did the madkings event for 20+ hours i never had to loot… and continue to still not have to except onthe very rare occasion my bags get full. For me the trade off was worth the loss of loot.

I would be ok with this if they implemented HoT mastery things across tyria… but as it stands those things only work in HoT map areas right now. plus the whole CoF farming would wipe those out in just a couple hours… not that im against it, just sayin is all.
I did the farm for a bit and tried to drop a guild banner inside but it wouldn’t let me. Can guild banners only be made outside dungeons?
guild banners wont drop down inn there… HOWEVER… the consumable ones you purchase with guild comms can be placed in there.
should I get the 64 bit version or just stay where I am now?
If you are not encountering OOM crashes, there is no reason to switch to the beta 64-bit client. GW2 is not optimized for 64-bit, so you’ll likely see slightly less FPS and higher memory usage. In the future however, the 64-bit client will likely become a requirement. The new zones on high settings for example is already almost there.
this will only present itself as a problem to very few people. While areas are not specifically optimized for 64 bit, they will still run just as well under 64 bit. The only difference here is the allocation of memory to processes. It should run the same if not better… how much better is the key issue here. People are already reporting either the same with no change or an overall better experience, which lends credit to my statement.

The players saying they want to leave the game over pixel sadness continues to be the most absurd thing Ive seen in an MMO community.
It’s not just pixel sadness, it’s the fact that I have to give up on my favorite part of the game (the story) because the writers still insist on using needless deaths to create needless drama.
snip…
I will be as sensetive as I can be about this, cuz my intent is not to offend.
People need to stop equating this game to real life. It is a game… and if you are taking it serious enuff to compare it to your personal problems in real life, I would advise you to see a specialist who can help you with your real life problems. That being said, I too donot like how Anet has brought real life dramatic and social issues into the game itself. People play games to escape reality and have fun, not stress and worry over ingame politics/mechanics/plotholes/etc…
You say the game is now ruined for you… well guess what… i been living with my "Ruined " game experience having him around for 3 years now dominating “MY” personal storyline. why should my game experience have to continually suffer just to appease yours that you have been happy with for this long?
Sincerely, Im not trying to be insensitive to anyones personal issues here, but please consider other people have opinions that are just as valid as yours.
I dont have issue with this for two simple reasons… first, they took way things I already had access to and forced me to grind it out all over agian for access to basic things. Second, anything new that they have added, doesnt give anyone an advantage over anyone else in the game. Lets be honest here… givin me a swiftness boost that only works in cities, allowing me to rez a downed player a tad bit faster and giving me access to a couple of vendors is literally nothing as I can get 2 out of 3 of those things before. We had access to a swiftness NPC to give you that same boost before, and using a quickness buff will get you the same rez bonus iirc… the auto loot is a Qol thing and a non issue… so really them letting this happen is the best of both worlds. It allows those that are mad to be able to quickly recover what they lost, and for those that like it this way, they can go about their merry way slowly earning it again.
What did they take away from you?
They too kaway speed buff NPC’s that we used before for the swiftness buff in cities, and they imposed a rez penalty that wasnt there before so that you had to master the pact commander area to get it back to normal…. there are many other things they have done like this, including guild hall buffs, fractal rewards etc… It seems gimping your current content and locking it behind masteries is whats called new content now…
So, if a person isn’t having crashing problems then this won’t have any affect? He won’t see any change at all to the game?
it will have an effect on you, things will load a bit faster and you wont get as much fps lag when encountering alot of objects say… like zergs!

Well, not entirely true. There were two surveys in reddit made by DazedRabbit, and although they are taken mostly by redditors, it gives an insight on what players think of Trahearne.

Do you like Trahearne?
Yes 46.3% (4672) No 45.7% (4608) Who's Trahearne? 8% (812)The fate of Trahearne?
Lives 42.6% (5144) Dies 57.4% (6930)I predicted Trahearne’s death a year ago from seeing the writers’ reaction in the Point’s of Interests show, I could tell they really thought that a VAST VAST VAST majority of the players hated Trahearne, when it’s not true.
Not sure how i feel about a reddit poll(privately owned website editable by peers). Second hand sources compared to gathered ingame data and official forum posts tend to lean more towards a larger majority not liking him overall. Im not discrediting your poll, I just dont see as much weight behind it compared to official forums and insider data gathered by Anet is all. its a total of 9000 opinions out of millions. The sample size is really to small be an accurate account I think (not that any real PUBLIC knowledge exists to begin with on it anyways). I still stand by my statement that a vast majority dont like him. I doubt Anet has made a major storyaltering decision based on a vocal 20-35 poeple on a forum tho.
Unless you can back up your “VAST VAST VAST” with actual fact and source then you don’t have much weight behind yours either.
And your the same person that just wanted his sword. Which by the way, never belonged to you in the first place and was given by the pale tree first to Riannoc to help him with his wyld hunt against the litch.
Which was subsequently stolen by his lil human partner after he died and was lost to the sylvari. When she was given it back she gifted it to Trahearne to help him cleanse Orr, which was his wyld hunt. It was never intended for you, in the sylvari ps your job was to find it for her, use it against the undead issue with said litch and then return it.
the weight of my info comes from Anets decision to go this route… they wouldnt be doing it if they didnt feel it needed to be done… yes I want the sword, I did the work to obtain it, I should at least be rewarded with a skin for it. Instead I did some NPC’s legendary grind and handed over a powerful artifact. He was either to scared or to weak to do it himself, so we basically did his Wyld Hunt for him. Which by the way… Trehearne was challenged to cleanse Orr, but we all know who really did that dont we… and I wonder… where did the sword go after the “Martyr” jumped into the portal with it? I still stand by my statements.
alot of this is preventative… for example, pocket raptors, hit them with an AOE CC, and then as much AOE dmg as you can and you will find they die before even hitting you. Or you can walk into the middle of them, and wait about 1-2 seconds then hit dodge and tehy all miss with their first atacks, then cleave into them. Smokescales, is a waiting game, use any type of block for the first 3 seconds. then wait an additional 3 seconds before you start whailing on them so their eveade is down, then have at them. they usually die fast. rolling dynos just need to be interupted when they are in packs of 2-3 is all, then they die fast as well. Its just a mater of learning how to deal with them is all.
Precursor crafting wasn’t put into the game to be cheaper
Precursor crafting wasn’t put into the game to be faster
Precursor crafting wasn’t put into the game to provide a non RNG method
Precurosr crafting wasn’t put into the game to provide balancesnip…
RNG
This is not entirely correct. They have said infact that it was put into the game to give players a specific NON rng way to get their precursor.

Basically, you, as Pact Commander, failed in your mission to rescue Trahearne, the Pact Marshall.
Then I will proudly wear the title of “Bill and Teds Failed adventure” proudly!
And given a time machine I would go back and put a sword thru him when I first met him.
I wanted an epic journey that would reward me with knowledge of lore and with lots of legendary loot!(by that I dont neccessarily mean legendaries, just items that reminded me of my journey so to speak.) I wanted (and recieved) grand vistas and explorable zones to make me feel like I was a part of the world. I wanted player race and class diversity that would be valid everywhere I went (got that too). I wanted real time combat that was intelligent and reactive. I wanted a continuing saga so that I would never have to repeat and grind the same things over and over again. I wanted a place to call home, for me and my guild (1 out of 2 aint bad, ill take it…) I wanted epic PVE battles that took hundreds of players to storm castles, wizards towers and deep caves. last but not least, Achievements! I wanted lots and lots of these (I am currently disatisfied with the amount we have, and want alot more.) I love having goals to achieve and watch progress on(I hate RNG, its a developement gimmick to artificially create content that doesnt exist, and to waste players time to boost the company’s ratings…)
THAT…. is what I was wanting.

The players saying they want to leave the game over pixel sadness continues to be the most absurd thing Ive seen in an MMO community. If you payed attention to the story you would know that alot of trehearnes dislike comes from the monotone voice acting and the dominance of HIS story over YOUR storyline. While we didnt have to become the Pact Marshall, there are dozens of other ways to handle this then making us subservient to a lifeless NPC that has done nothing but show weakness in his inability to make decisions and forecasting doom. I dont mind partnering with him to accomplish his wyld hunt, but it should be second to the players storyline, and we should not be doing HIS quests to get items for HIM… he should do those himself. its his wyld hunt, not ours. That would be like asking some random NPC i was just introduced to, earn my Legendary Eternity and hand it over to me. It isnt right.
As for what they could have done, it would be completely feasable for us to run the pact as a group instead of having a marshall. trehearne was useless in all fights he accompanied us into, he could have managed the back half ofthe battle scene without being its Supreme Commander… leaving us to still go out and fight the battle as was customary in history battlefield commanders. washington, leonidas, roman generals… there are loads of commanders placed in the frontline of battles, and guess what? The ones that did are taught about in the history books as being great leaders. The ones who sat back on the back lines were typically hailed as cowards by history.
I think Anet knew how a VAST VAST VAST majority of the players felt about trehearne, and did the right thing by quietly, dignifyingly, removing him from the story (but something tells me he is gonna return in future stories as a champion of mordy, as I believe mordy isnt really dead yet…but thats another discussion.) I think in a way Anet tried to make him look the part of a Martyr, but the verdict is still out on whether thats how the community will percieve the events in teh future.
TL;DR Trehearnes death was a neccessary part of the story and a welcome one. I played thru alot of storys being his errand boy, I will enjoy watching him die repeatedly for it. I for one, look forward to leaving him in the past and moving on…

I will slit my opinion into 2 areas…
10/10 for sheer amount of new content/items/masteries/achievements.
4/10 for playability… its just a new grind on new terrain…story too short, not immersive etc. etc….
I havent lvled a toon in a while, is there a lvl restriction on getting and using minis? I know some other items are gated by your current character level. What lvl are you?

Trehearne got out of it exactly what he put into it… he was a tactless and un-noteworthy leader… and died the same way. Anet did the right thing by doing it this way, very deserving and fitting. I would be a liar though if i didnt say I was hoping to drive my Eternity thru his chest and snatch saladbowl from his hands while he watched, as he lay there dying. That sword belongs to me… I earned it.
for what lvl and section are these used to upgrade?
I want this to be a fun experience. I agree that it should be a hard, challenging process as well. The current system is not fun at all. I would like to see more diverse things to do other than the current grind things we have already been doing for 2 years or more. I feel like this is just doing the exact same thing as before, just under a different label. I expected more quest style things to do rather then the dominating open world farm for mats routine we are already tired of. I dont mind it being expensive to buy the things, as I feel its supposed to be a journey, not a pay to obtain thing. I just wish it involved more lore and exploring… maybe they should do a story line designed around each type of legendary. Sure, include some mat farming, but limit it to about 20% of the content or less. be creative, stop falling back on the SOS we do every day.

gw2 economy was a wreck before HoT… now its an unmitigated disaster. Fail economy… They need to fix it.
I still fail to understand why this has been placed behind a content wall AND rng to boot. It should be obtainable the same way the others are.
This seems very shady to me. Whats to stop a guild leader from having his guild donate in to max out a guild hall, then kick everyone from the guild and sell it to keep the gold for himself?
i still had 20 points left over after I finished mine, so they will need to introduce alot of new masteries if they are gonna run us out of points. But it could be possible.

maybe its just me, but i feel frustrated with the new maps past verdant brink. half the map is inaccessable for long periods of time, winding pathways restricting movement makes the maps feel very small. I know they are about the size of a regular map overall, but the pathway restrictions just turn me off for some reason.
lvl 50 means… i spent 8 hours in COF 1, and 0 time in HoT. Anyone above 50 has done both content farming/lvling.
glad I bought mine when it was 80 gold… geesh… I could make a killing off it now. I already had most the stuff for this, i did spend around 300 gold to aquire some of the other more frustrating mats to get for me. The linseed though is my gate. I need the 6k flax it will take to make those, and im currenty at 300ish farmed so far.
I agree mostly with OP’s cost breakdown, except for batwings and the brew… those are only going to skyrocket. even a year from now, those prices are not gonna drop. The wings will only get rarer, and the people who are selling the brew arent gonna take a 20 gold loss in TP fees just to relist it in a year from now for 80 gold again… sorry, just not gonna happen here.
seen people do it in 7 hours or so. just depends on your dedication to it.
Thanks Seth, my guild has secured one, but wasnt sure about keeping it till one of our more wealthy members devoted a crap ton of stuff, and would feel guilty losing it all hehehe.
On a side note, I have 2 questions. Can a Guild own both places? Second, if at a later date, can you switch places and still retain your current guild upgrades?
It has been out for less than a week. Did people really expect to just be able to bang out Dusk in five days?
speed is only one factor of many in this equation. I dont think OP was thinking he could do it in less then 5 days. I think he is refering more to the fact it costs alot more to make then to buy, that coupled with gated mats etc… It isnt always just about speed here.
But what if you just set it aside as a longer term goal and just play? Salvage drops, mine here and there, make the ingots when you can…every day you get a little closer. Which was, after all, the goal of the precursor crafting- to provide a known path that allows tangible progress beyond simply amassing gold. Prices fluctuate and sure, it may be more expensive right now with everyone rushing, but if you are willing to wait you might find that your normal play has gotten you 75% of the way there and prices for the rest of the things that you need have come down a bit. In the meantime you have enjoyed your playtime, instead of feeling like you’re stuck doing the highest gold/hr thing over and over. It isn’t always just about cost here.
I was speaking for the OP, not myself. I enjoy a process to obtaining things rather then pure RNG. This however is not an enjoyable process for me. was hoping it would be based more in exploring and questing and doing things around tyria, instead of sitting at a craft station exploring my backpack… but meh…

This is correct, the game was designed and made for casual gaming to begin with. Why do you think they would ever abandon the casual types to focus on hardcore? Sure they will put a little bit in for them, but the main focus is always gonna be the casual gamer. You guys trying to change this into a HC game is like taking WoW and getting rid of Raids….
Speculating on what people will or will not complain about is a non issue. You don’t know what they will do, you’re only guessing for the sake of furthering your argument.
Yeah, I know about glacial lodestones, but this is Glacial Fragment (2nd tier material). And I haven’t found any guild upgrades requiring glacial fragments :s
correct, my point was people often times promote t2 to t3 and t3 to t4 etc… look at charged lodestones… cores etc are all high priced due to people forging them into higher grade mats.
I doubt people will need HP’s or xp for masteries by next year. Judging by the way alot of people have fully mastered the tyria side already, all that will be left is HoT. That is unless they add more between then.

They are making hero point, which have been PvE only up until now, available in WvW. The very fact they are doing that already not makes this a “kitten you” to WvW players. Thats like getting an xbox 360 and being mad because it isn’t an xbox one.
Wtf is this argument? …….
It’s pretty much like saying “Work is supposed to be for men so why are women complaining about being paid less. They should be happy to get anything…”.
That’s the exact same kittened up logic that starts with a wrong statement ( here “any kind of reward is meant to be primarily PvE…”).No, its more like: man has to move super heavy object that woman cant move but woman wants to get paid for it the same as a man. Content was designed and relaesed for a primarily PVE role with a side map thrown in for WvW. Play the PVE part if you want it quicker. Thats all that needs to be said about it…..
Translation: Hey, WvW players! Screw you!
Hahahaha thats cute. That however does not reflect my feelings on the matter accurately. I WvW a bit so i have no hatred of that community. I was attempting to give a brutal truth as plainly as I saw it. I agree more should be done with the other styles, but however, this current xpac was not designed for that. Unfortunately the fact is, PVE is the quickest way. You will either play it and get it quicker that way, or stay in WvW and go the slow route. really, thats all that needs to be said about it… again…

Meta events seem to be key for it. We know boosters, foods, and banners help a great deal. Running with Commanders when you can helps the events run smoother.
Questions:
are different Meta events better on different maps?
are there locations that provide a larger quantity then others for farming Mobs?
are there other items in game that help the XP that maybe we havent thought of yet?
whats your favorite places to farm so far? and why?
you didnt lose your previous points for it, you can just do it again to get more now.
