The patch could have been worse, they could actually have nerfed something through the ground like the warr’s Empower Allies. As for the rest, the consecration changes look partly interesting, the other notes just make me yawn.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
When fully buffed, true. But let’s be honest, how often do you really have 25 vuln, 25 might, 100% fury and all that fancy stuff like Empower Allies at the same time? Though yeah, timid talks absolute nonsense.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
No, thanks. I don’t want the scepter to be broken by some utterly useless condition junk when it’s doing its job pretty fine at the moment.
Besides, even in WvW/PvP such stuff would be probably pretty bad since there is nothing else that would complement a condition weapon.

What I said: Just random fail. Or, to quote colesy’s wise words again:
why do i have to be so bad

Ah, it’s somewhat reassuring that I’m not the only one feeling like this.
Locust problem? Always, Always, Always, save 100b for scream, Then if the locust dont die kite around with axe until next scream. If your having trouble with p1, transition will destroy your self esteem.
Not really the locusts, at least not directly. Rather getting smashed by the random kick I’ll miss some time into P1.
Hundred blades isn’t ranger auto you can break it. Its an efficent way to drop locusts, other than camp axe like Spoj said and myself I beleive.
Who said it was HB that makes me fail dodging the kick? It isn’t.

Hey!
So I got totally bashed by my group in a dungeon the other day for being a zerker guardian with shouts and wall of reflection.
They called me a noob and that I should learn how to play guardian.
Note that I did not die….
Is this the general idea of the public?
Congratulations, you found some of the most stupid people in GW2. Just ignore them and go on playing Zerker, it’s the best you can do in a dungeon.

Funny. Looks a bit like some kind of mirror image to this thread:

Well done OP, now I just need to be able to complete phase 1 reliably on my warrior.
Only 500 more attempts to go.
…
why do i have to be so bad
Ah, it’s somewhat reassuring that I’m not the only one feeling like this.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
True. Even non-uberl33t players will happily take such a reward for not screwing up, even though I’m not exactly sure whether that should be rewarded. But well, it’s probably well in line with all that achievement stuff.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Not really a must. I can imagine quite some situations where I will have just one shout because I need the other slots for Purging Flames or SotA and WoR. Besides, PoV will be nerfed back to one condition on Tuesday.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
And by the way – party expecting from guard support and defense
‘shrug’ Well, you know, both of them can easily come from a zerker guardian. In that case, the zerker guy is usually even more effective in the support than some kind of PVT or whatever scrub. Of course, if the party equals support with healing, than you’ve found a bunch of very dumb people.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
No thanks to auras. I like my fire field now that I’ve finally found a LH ele to do dungeons with.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think that my tea cup deals more damage than this build. Can someone confirm that?
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
I wish I was wrong; I wish GW2 wasn’t a race to the highest DPS. But it is.
Ha, so true. Sometimes I really miss the good old trinity.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Lot of chat-guardians votes for celestial, i’m already start charging quartz(
Great idea. Next time I’ll ask some random people in the city about the most efficient synthesis routes for some compounds I’m looking for. I’m sure they’ll have the perfect answer.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
You still have more than enough support in an AHEM build compared to that virtues stuff. The big difference is that you’ll still deal somehow acceptable damage and have great survivability.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
1) Achievement points
bad. achievement points dont matter. i know players with 2k AP who can solo lupi and play better than 10k AP staff guardians.
It’s all about probability.
But still, you could probably just toss a coin and have the same predictive value that APs have.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
If you desperately need sustain and lack a lot of practice, try to run full zerker with an AH build (0/0/30/30/10). Though these builds unfortunately promote bad playstyle (since they can make you really lazy), they are quite good for people who aren’t (yet) proficient in damage avoidance and run mostly with PUGs.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Still Zerker is the best option available for PvE.
Hope you´re fine Aurellian, good old mate, most imba PvE-Zerker-Guard-EU
Now that’s flattering, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m just better than 95% of all those noob guards out there, but that isn’t difficult.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Berserker.
kitten it, when will people finally learn to state which part of the game they play?
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Ah, I already missed some good sentinel junk build
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
@ Skyline: Valor boosts your DPS only if you sacrifice Honor (if your party already has its 25 might permanently or is a bunch of ranged noobs) and Virtues. Problem is, if you sacrifice them, you’ll reduce AH’s effectiveness massively (no EM and/or longer symbols) and you’ll have only the very baseline support the class offers, nothing more.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
And this is why the gw2 playerbase is awful, they like to play badly and not be told they’re playing badly.
As if it was only GW2 – I still have contact to some people who continued the guide I originally wrote in WoW BC and they have exactly the same issue. So it’s a safe bet that this is a problem of the whole MMO landscape (and beyond, probably).
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Bump. Block should definitely work in the guild chat.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Full damage builds in dungeons only works when 1) Everyone knowns what must do (which doesn’t apply in PUGs) and 2) Everyone goes full damage. So, you can kill, lets say, the incinerators, so fast that they are dead before their damage became a threat. But when only half of the party goes full berserk then bad things happens, because sometimes foes doesn’t die fast enough, and then the “squishy pro elite zerks” start to fall like flies.
Quite interesting assumption … but wrong. Neither point 1) nor point 2) are necessary prerequisites of success for full zerker builds, no matter whether on guard, warr or wherever. What you describe are bad players, which is not related to zerker stuff itself.
Any good player won’t down no matter what the group does (or he’ll go down as the last one). Even for me, and I’m a rather mediocre player, the main cause of death is not failure due to full zerker, but failure when trying to revive on of those PVT-whatever-guys who got downed …

I don’t really feel like putting any proof when testing it is extremely simple (as some people have already done on this topic). Just use a potion, let a weak enemy hit you 10-20 times and remember/write down highest damage (+ average damage). Replace the potion with something else and get hit as many times as you like (50+) and notice how the damage never gets close.
And also I’m so lovely person that people like to trust me.
True. Did it with n=40 for both with and without potion and the mean damage with potion was 7.95 % higher, what should have been 8 % lower. Pretty clear numbers, if you ask me.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Well, thought I’d cross-post it here. Slaying potions should reduce the damage you take from the respective mobs, but the opposite is the case.
After some extensive tank-and-spank sessions I noticed something weird. Slaying potions actually make you take MORE damage, not less.
I tested this with Undergrowth Webber on new TA path getting hit multiple times with and without Nightmare Court Slaying. Then I went to Arah and tested same with Undead Slaying on Orrian Villager.
You will still deal more damage so at least that part works.

Force/force does stack, two force on two weapons will give 10%. Before you criticize me, it is a very easy test in heart of the mists.
Well, I tested it in the mists, because I was curious about what to put into my ascended sword (which will be the last ascended weapon for a long time -.-), aaaaaaaaaaaand … it did not stack. 132 steady scepter autoattack without sigil, 139 with first force, 139 with second force.

Anyone else’s thought on 10/30/0/10/20 vs 10/30/0/20/10 ?
Just another thing on EM which hasn’t been mentioned: Its range is, unfortunately, depressingly small. Something like 300 radius around you. So if everyone is melee stacking at you, it’s fine, but otherwise its effectiveness is diminished a lot. So if you don’t go for PoV anyway, EM is no big reason to stick to 20 Honor.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
For leveling, just do what you want. The build does not really matter until you reach the high levels. Just stick to offensive gear (power → power/precision → power/precision/crit) since it will make killing stuff a lot easier and provide good practice for useful lvl 80 builds.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Thank you for the comparison, which is quite nice. Just a short question, did you regard Elusive Power as 0, since it’s not truly reliable, or did it get some other factor in the builds which have it?
I factored it in at it’s full value, just like I factored in Scholar Runes at full uptime.
Ah ok, thanks for the clarification. So the Honor builds are somewhat biased towards higher effectiveness, which is fine to me.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
I fail to see the challenge, as long as you don’t mean the challenge not to fall asleep with such a build.

Full soldier’s is actually a great set to have for bosses you can’t crit.
And those bosses are how many? That’s an absolute niche and Zerker works fine on those bosses, too. It’s just not lightyears away from all the other stuff anymore.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
In essence, it’s what Trigger said. If you want a slightly longer version, look at http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83822-guardian-greatsword-dps-build-guide/
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Honestly, get a real set for PvE. With that soldier junk, you are just a liability for any but the most incompetent dungeon groups.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
I’m just glad that they are combining Dredge and TA.
Yes, we need Dredge in every single dungeon.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Celestial’s work very well for guards.
Now if they would only fix our Zeal – Radiance lines.
Erm no, hands off Radiance, please. Whatever they do there, they’re just too likely to break something important. That line is fine.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
If you know how to dodge halfway, then you don’t need the crutch AH in PvE. Builds centered around that trait are just boring and promote bad playstyle. Besides, the OP stated that he wants “fairly high DPS”, which that Paladin build does not deliver.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Depending on what dungeons you do, you should consider moving the 10 points from Valor into Virtues. Imo, the benefits of Unscathed Contender/Master of Consecrations are by far superior to anything Valor can offer.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Nothing new. However, I think that this
rangers can adapt to any situation.
is a legend, as far as my experience with them is concerned. Never ever saw one adapt decently to a melee fight.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
I remember when I thought mace/shield was doing any good in dungeons..
Ha, yeah. Thought that in my first dungeon on 80, CoE story, suspecting it to be a great tank weapon set. After one third of the dungeon, I realized it was garbage and went back to my trusty greatsword
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
True. Though I’m still no friend of the ascendeds, at least the effort after reaching weaponsmith 500 is not too much. Greatsword is done, now a sword, the rest is rather irrelevant.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Really? Because I see guardians doing this WAY more with their hammers. It’s not even close.
Rangers, by far. Somewhere at a long distance come mesmers, engineers and guardians, but huntards are king of stupid knockbacks.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
As said above, rangers, just like engineers, have a bad reputation because most of players are noobs with these classes.
With rangers, you will mostly see stupid pew pewing with LB at max range, bringing 0 contribution to the group (max range = out of your party’s support and bringing 0 support to your team). Or the same with SB faster pewpew !
As for engineers its spam 1 Flamethrower x)
So true, so true. I haven’t seen a single ranger ingame who used a sword for dungeons. Most of them try pewpewing with their bows no matter what they’re up against. At least that’s some kind of retroactive justification for the class’ designation in WoW: huntard.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
‘sigh’ That build would be junk, since Carrion is a joke compared to Zerker and virtually any trait line is better than points beyond 20 Zeal. Do you now get what I’m talking about?
