A friend of mine mained an ele, and then after trying a few seems to be really liking ranger. It’s not the most looked after of classes, but it’s a nice mix of range and melee, and it has the pets a fun and completely unique mechanic.
Personally I like guardian though. It is an easy class to play, but it is also a really useful group member. You can just smash into stuff, but if you’re playing with others then there’s also a lot of support you can provide.
On a more basic level, given the focus on aesthetics in the game, maybe going for a non-light armour class will be the simplest advice.
Try going back to the Chantry of Secrets. Even if you got the poi there already, I think there was a bug that doing this somehow fixes.
The sales have been getting better towards the end of the month.
Well this is the end of the month and we saw Repair canisters yesterday.
Compared to the first week or so, that is a significant step up. Throw in the keys, the transmutation stones, heck even stuff like the chef’s outfit and it outdoes the walk through single items of town clothing that the first week or so gave us.
If you’re buying the gems with gold DO NOT wait for character slots to go on sale. The conversion rate will skyrocket.
However, character slots have been on sale before (January), so it’s possible that they’ll go on again soon. The sales have been getting better towards the end of the month.
They’re expensive now, but they’re going to wind up being really weirdly cheap, which is sort of strange. Karma items at least keep some worth because Karma doesn’t devalue in the same way that Gold does, and other items will go up in price with Gold as they’re on the TP. I’m not sure why Cultural armour wasn’t given a high Karma price, or tied to story progression in some way, if the intention was for it to be rare.
If you’re torn, I’d go sylvari. That human look is really overused now, and will only get more popular as people get more money (as T3 prices are fixed). It’s a shame because it is a very cool set.
I’m curious though, as this is the title screen, you presumably own these outfits, which means you bought a T3 top for a character you might not keep???
This could be either good or bad, depending on how long it takes to achieve the titles.
Long time: Bad, for obvious reasons. Players are discouraged from playing on alts or else they fall behind the curve.
Short time: Players get all the achievements on one character, and then feel like the XP is being wasted so start a new character, much like prestige systems in Call of Duty.
To be fair, watching the same events spawn over and over sort of loses the non-loot based reasons to play them. It can’t feel like you’re achieving anything in a roleplaying sense.
One thought, what if they introduced a reward system similar to the WvW reward for PvE? Like the more of the PvE world we control at any time, the more magic find/gatherer/ exp/ karma bonus everyone on the server has.
I agree that there should be equal reward for defend as capture though, as it being advantageous to lose a temple is a really unhelpful mechanic.
I would like to know if it was announced anywhere else, or if these have happened before and I was totally unaware of them. Has anyone on here seen one before?
Hi all,
Firstly I’d like to say that I love the game and am largely happy with the way it is being handled, this is not intended to be another complaint thread.
Apparently there was a “flash sale” two days ago that was announced on twitter and reduced Black Lion Salvage kits by 50%, but only a limited number were available. I am opening up a discussion as to whether organising a sale that will favour people in a certain time zone (and without jobs at that time), particularly on such a valuable item, is really fair?
Sales are cool, and I am all for ANet making money, but after the Lost Shores event (which a lot of effort WAS made to make up for) I’m surprised to see that the game is still being treated in a way that doesn’t recognise it has an audience in different time zones.
Again this is not intended to be a complaint thread so let’s discuss this nicely. Also, I’d request that this isn’t moved somewhere else (suggestions or black lion forum) as this is intended to be a general discussion on international audiences and could apply to any time restricted event.
The OP was quite clearly stating that he objected to the greyed out boxes, and not the existence of the skins. There is a satisfaction to seeing a completed “set” when you open a tab, be it dyes, achievements, pets or whatever. This is hardly an unfair request, and telling him to go and play 30+ hours in a game he doesn’t own just to clear those four boxes is kind of missing the point. There is a difference between GW1 players getting something extra, and GW2 players having something locked out.
My main issue with the cosmetic stuff is that it is one use and character bound. It simply isn’t worth the gem cost. At current prices a cosmetic skin, nomatter how kitten (which the current ones aren’t), isn’t worth it for one use that I might not like long term on one character. If I was simply buying the right to use that skin as much as I want on all my characters, then it becomes a worthwhile investment. If I could just blow some gems because I felt like it, knowing I’d always be able to use the armour, and it wasn’t going to just sit taking up bank slot space, then I’d be much more likely to splurge.
This is actually a much bigger problem for dyes. I used to never buys dyes off the TP, but always open unidentified ones because it was exciting, even at a cash loss. Collecting was fun. Then, after a while, when you realise your collection is spread over several characters rather than filling up one page, and that you’ll need duplicates to colour each character properly (let alone have them all have options available), it stops being fun to collect and you have to focus on buying specific dyes for specific characters. Rather than spend gems on some dyes because it’s exciting, and I know I’ll at least add to the big colour spectrum in the hero screen, it just isn’t appealing to make the gamble.
I understand that ANet need to make money. But I can’t believe that they’ll make more money from a few people buying multiple Primeval Armour skins than THOUSANDS of people buying one each.
I did the destroyer event chest run yesterday. There were like a hundred players involved. I got greens and blues at the end. I asked around if anyone got anything good. Only two replied that they got crap drops. If someone got all rares I expect them to yell in chat but no one did. Did rare drop rate really increase?
For some reason the Destroyer doesn’t seem to drop as good loot as the other DE chests. Bit odd.
I agree with everyone who has said that the stats are irrelevant and I can’t afford them either. However, if we accept that the stats are important, and that they should be exotics, this raises an obvious question:
For what build?
If you feel the price of transmuting other stats on is significant enough that all T3 armour should be exotic, then what setup are you suggesting gets to use the armour? More importantly, which builds are going to be punished and have to pay the extra anyway to transmute useful stats onto the the already exotic T3 armour?
Yeah, it seems that changing the system to one chest per account, rather than per character, would solve this much more effectively, and without having to nerf a really useful system.
My experience with players has got significantly better. Last night I hung around with people waiting for events, shouted back and forth across maps about what events were up, watched a couple of people playing choir bells for like fifteen minutes after FINALLY doing the hidden boss in the reactor, and generally explored the world in a game that felt like a multiplayer game again.
I mean, there are technical problems with this. I missed out on at least two chests due to my game messing up and crashing mid fight, and the lag is incredible in some of the dragon battles, but overall I had more fun with the open world last night than in I have in ages.
At least three of the dailies after the patch required you to specifically avoid Orr. It seems the devs want to force people to play in the rest of the world rather than farm a place only level 80s can go. Given they’ve explicitly said this, and they’ve increased the drops in other areas, I don’t know why this would be surprising.
I use search and rescue in some situations. If someone has actually died rather than simply fighting to survive it isn’t usually practical to stand over them for the save. Although it is pretty unreliable, it’s quite handy as a fire and forget effort to at least get them started on getting back up. It’s also handy for getting people I can’t otherwise reach due to terrain.
Not great, and not really a serious build, but not useless.
It would certainly be nice if the achievement types gave titles. The slayer and weaponmaster traits would be an actual goal to work towards, and encourage people to go out and kill things outside of Cursed Shore/Dungeons and use something that wasn’t a greatsword.
Cool, thanks for the input. I’ll just go with a weapon that shows up through the armour. I get it’s a complex issue to resolve, but with ANet’s focus on skins in endgame I thought they might have said something about working on it.
Really wasn’t a complaint though, five races, all of which can change build, and a huge range of armour and weapons to match up is always going to have some issues.
Hi,
My Charr Guardian wears Vigil armour, and as a result basically any scepter/focus I give him is either mostly or completely hidden by his coat. I don’t want this to sound like a complaint, as I’m more looking for advice. Basically there are a couple of skins that do show up properly, but they’re quite pricey (I’m not that rich) and don’t look that great. Is there any word on whether or not ANet are planning to adjust the way weapons display to avoid clipping issues, making it better to wait for a skin I actually want, or should I just buy a skin that works now?
Thank you!
As I said, it wasn’t really that I was worried about being banned, just curious. Thanks all.
Cool, thank you. Any word on if ANet minds us doing it? It isn’t the sort of exploit they ban for obviously as I’m not profiting, but just curious if they’d said anything.
I believe it used to be possible to transmute Order gear from one toon and pass it to another through the bank. Is this still possible, or is it something we aren’t actually supposed to be able to do? I’d really like to pass some of the weapon skins between characters.
Be careful transmuting. If the sword is no longer legendary, then when the ascended swords come out it may not automatically update its stats.
For fun. It’s not financially sound, but it’s like an in game lottery ticket where you always ‘win’ something. They don’t drop enough for me to really feel the lost income over the excitement of getting one myself.
I should note that I’ve also had a rule so far where I don’t buy any dyes off the TP for myself, which makes it more entertaining.
What confuses me more is why the Consortium stuff came back down. Someone poured a LOT of money into spiking them, and then seemed to give up.
That happens to a lot of market flippers when they first discover that its not as easy as it sounds on the forums to just “control a market and charge whatever you want”.
True, but whoever did this pumped hundreds of gold into it (or a lot of people had exactly the same idea). I also don’t quite understand who was hoarding Consortium stuff and decided that it should sell for less than a gold in some cases. I mean, obviously the skins aren’t as cool as the ones that sell in the hundreds of gold (maybe the Clipper), but its literally a one-time event.
This was announced for a LONG time before it happened, and they gave everyone plenty of time to settle on a server. As far as I know its something to do with WvW, but it definitely doesn’t seem like a money making scheme (given so few people are likely to pay 1800 gems to do it, and more people would do it multiple times for say 500 gems).
Looking at the TP you might be best making Frostfang, then trying to sell it and put in a buy order for The Predator. You’ll lose some money, but save yourself a lot of trouble (and you’d have to buy a new precursor anyway, so it doesn’t sound like you’re struggling for cash).
The premise for them spiking was flawed, so it’s no doubt they tanked again. They were speculated on because the clothes vendor was going away, but that method of buying skins was far more expensive than buying them straight off the tp anyways, so it going away should have no impact on general supply/demand. They’ll still rise slowly over time after this however (although they could fall a bit more before then).
I did find it odd that the Christmas skins went up so fast (though they should probably sell a little higher). What confuses me more is why the Consortium stuff came back down. Someone poured a LOT of money into spiking them, and then seemed to give up. I actually think they sort of warrant the value they hit (and maybe higher) too, given they’re not as likely to be restocked as the Halloween/Christmas skins.
There’s a decent chance of it plummeting on the 28th if precursors become available through laurels. However, there was also a decent chance of dyes plummeting when it was basically confirmed that they were available for laurels and they actually went up due to the bot ban wave (probably).
Sell it for the value you place on it. If selling dusk would triple your money, then I’d sell it. If it would give you another 1%, then maybe hang on to it. You might lose out on 100G by waiting, you might gain 100G.
So, I’m hoping this is a stupid question and the obvious answer is that people won’t be rewarded extra for completing their monthlies after the 28th, but given the patch goes live then and monthly laurels are in it I thought it best to ask…
Oh yeah, I forgot about the Ascended thing. I don’t know what’ll happen there. If they decide that stuff like Mjolnir etc. are staying exotic then Legendaries might become sought after just for the permanent ‘best in slot’.
They’ll be sought after to an extent, but I don’t think I’m alone in rolling my eyes a bit whenever the legendary greatswords show up. I saw The Dreamer the other day and was really surprised, which was cool, but between the TP and the amount of people with it, I can see people deciding to buy a chainsaw for a 20th of the cost of a legendary, even if they have to build an ascended sword to put the skin on.
Give it time. The status of legendaries is plummeting now they’re on the TP and so many people have them (especially the greatswords) so people are going to look elsewhere. A skin that is no longer available, requires no lodestones, has unique sound effects, and was available only in the second month of the game being released? Sounds pretty appealing to me.
Yeah, if I could afford to I’d buy at least one greatsaw skin as it seems to go up with inflation. It seems a pretty safe bet as it isn’t holiday themed particularly, and as more and more players start having disposable income it is actually one of the more unique skins in the game (the sort of skin that a rich player might put on an alternative weapon).
That said, unless someone manipulates it, it won’t be a huge profit earner immediately, so it isn’t a way to get quick cash.
Haha, fair enough
Fair, thanks for the info
But the Greatswords look so much bigger on a giant norn/charr than say, a tiny asura! I’ll take your word for it, but it feels like you’d notice if your asura was swinging and hitting things three feet away…
Okay, I’m sure this has come up, but I’m trying to decide what race to make my warrior. I haven’t worried much about range etc. with my other characters, but given the warrior is such a powerhouse melee character I wanted some input.
Basically, is it worth making as big a Charr/Norn as possible in order to maximise range on the greatsword, or is this not a factor? As I said, I don’t worry about this with my other characters, so this isn’t simply a case of “make what you’ll find most fun”, I’d like to know if there’ll be a combat advantage to making as big a character as possible (obviously acknowledging I’m also a bigger target).
Thank you.
1) No
2) No
3) No
4) No
5) The nerfs are getting a bit silly, but the bigger problem is the communication. Maybe this is being implemented really carefully and cleverly, but how would we know? Putting a partial message like this out was clearly going to cause upset. I understand the need to balance giving some information with having to hold some things back, but seriously? This is like the whole Karka chest thing. They did resolve it, and they resolved it well, but by avoiding specifics on what was needed to qualify for a chest we had a HUGE amount of confusion and argument in the community.
I’d like to add that I appreciate ANet’s work to improve the game, a LOT of the communication that has gone on in the last week (especially on the forum) and remain a huge fan.
It seems the scavenger hunt is a while off yet, but I’m unclear on how precursors stand regarding the rewards system. I get the impression they aren’t included. If it turns out that precursors are staying RNG for months, then prices may keep going up.
However, whilst I don’t play the mystic forge, if I were to get a drop from a dragon chest I would be looking to sell it at buy order price because the listing value isn’t worth the gamble to me… I have no interest in a legendary at the moment, and it is unlikely I’d get one of the ones I want, so if I get a precursor, its probably going to the highest bidder. I suspect this is the same for a lot of players.
Thanks for the info. Shame, it would have been fun trying to stealth around
If I take a low level character into a high level zone, would I get more experience? Like, could I take a level 50 thief into Orr with some stealth kits and just power level?
Funny thing about “Kitten” is it can show up anywhere. For example, ever been to kittenattler Caverns? It’s in the Hrathi Hinterlands.
Tell me about it. Just try quoting me.
Yeah, I only have one map left to do and I’m thinking of holding off until the update notes come out before completing it. I’m really hoping that they decide to add something to the reward, if not a cool skin then at least a couple of standard exotics, as I don’t plan on going for a legendary. I find it really odd that they’d limit the reward in this way, as it really is only useful to a small proportion of players.
They’re actually impacting proper play in Cursed Shore. I went to farm sparks because the Temple was open, and there was a team of bots sitting waiting for respawns. I couldn’t get a shot off at the target before it was dead
No. Just no.
It won’t force anyone out into the low level zones-levelling up by crafting in the low levels is not cost effective anyway.
If you’re trying to restrict the number of crafters, this method wouldn’t work at all, as people who level in this fashion generally level ALTS this way (otherwise it costs too much gold). Having lots of crafted items on the market is good from a buyers point of view.
A better idea might be to delevel the OP, strip him of all crafting levels and gold and materials and then see what he thinks of his own idea.
Wow… it was just a suggestion
You also seem to miss the point of it. This wouldn’t affect most players with no gold/levels/materials, as it costs WAY too much for a newbie to do level up like this. In fact, it could HELP newbies by allowing them to actually sell the crafting goods they make for a profit (or at least less of a loss). This suggestion was specifically targeted at preventing rich players from levelling up Alts to eighty in Lion’s Arch.
Whilst I acknowledge that being able to do this is nice (I completely support Zintish’ reason for not wanting this), it involves the market being flooded with crafted materials, and reduces any need for players to leave LA, which is currently bad enough with just Fractals.
Moreover, the flood of crafted gear makes dropped loot really boring. When was the last time you were excited to find a green drop? Pretty much any non-yellow weapon or armour piece is basically vendor trash, or maybe a salvage because it is so cheap and easy to fully kit out your character at any level.
I’m not pretending this isn’t an idea with downsides, but I hardly think you gave it a fair chance.
Okay, first off in the interests of full-disclosure, I have Master Crafter. This would HUGELY benefit me, but I also think it would be good for the game.
Now, what I am suggesting is that crafting professions be limited (in tens) to the basic level of item that can be crafted. So, for example, a level 20 player could make all blue level 20 items (which would put the limit around 75 I believe). They would also be able to make greens and rares to a higher level.
I think this would be beneficial in two ways:
1) Prevent the current system of easy levelling by sitting around Lion’s Arch and force players out into the low level zones. I don’t hugely like this method of forcing players out, as carrot over stick seems much better, but it would help.
Also, players could still use crafting to get the bonus 20 levels, but they would have to spread them out over the course of levelling up. Anyone who wanted to switch between professions to do all 80 levels via crafting could, but a lot less efficiently.
2) Make crafting actually have a point outside levelling by limiting the pool of crafters, and more importantly the number of crafted items that flood the market through power-levelling.
Now, obviously this is only a good idea if the intention was not to have crafting be used as a way to speed level. It might well have been, as this ties into the no grind philosophy that was advertised. If crafting was intended for any other purposes however, then I think this has merit.
I agree with Malediktus. Eternity seems like a reasonable bet for the January or February patch, given how many people have already got Twilight or Sunrise, and the fact that it seems unfinished. It isn’t as good as it should be, so a patch MIGHT make it epic.
Alternatively the patch, or lack of patch, might make it less appealing, so that is a gamble.
