Hi,
I am currently ranked no.1 (or was at the time of writing this OP) on the EU. I appreciate that the game is hard to balance for the developers because it is hard to distinguish useful feedback from meaningless QQ from people with less experience.
With that being said, let me tell you the OP/lame stuff at high level solo Q. Hopefully this feedback can be of use:
1, Elite ranger spirit – even at 320/second this heal will be too strong.
2, Ranger shortbow 1 – too high dps for an auto attack where there is no risk/reward to using it.
3, Warrior sustain – is too high. I know they need high sustain but with their immunities/lyssa then things aren’t good. Something needs to give.
4, Warrior longbow burst skill – its bugged so it clears 3 condis even when it hits nobody. This bug have a big effect on gameplay. Needs some creative design thinking to fix this. And maybe reduce the area of this skill which is too large to allow skillful counter play.
5, Lyysa runes – Obviously too strong, obviously didn’t design it to be used with 48 second elites. ICD needs to be over 70 seconds imo.
6, Thief evades – Still a problem I think.
7, Elementalist instant burst – need to somehow add some counter play to instant skill abilities with high damage. Not sure how to do this. Thats up to the devs, but it sucks.
For build diversity:
Guardian needs some mobility help deep into an offensive trait line to help roaming builds.
Necro needs a viable defensive line by fixing the minor traits in death magic.
Ranger needs some active condition removal (such a condi loss on pet swap low in a power line) and its shouts buffed to make it so emphatic bond isn’t required.
Warrior needs significant nerfs so other builds on other classes can have a chance to breath and exist.
Elementalist needs its RTL nerf reverted to just 20 seconds always cooldown, and should have slightly stronger sustain but reduced damage at certain times. Almost diamond skin should be reworked so it is useful always and never just brokenly lame (like lose 2 conditions when changing to earth)
Thief is fine except for some nerfs needed.
Mesmer should be in a good place after the vigor nerf.
Engineer needs its condi immunity removed/nerf to 90%, incendiary power made skill based, but improvements to the scaling of some of their attacks with power.
GL everyone, and thanks to the devs for a fun game which hopefully can keep improving and hopefully no more power creep

Wow, I actually agree with almost all of your post besides the thief nerfs. A thief is supposed to evade, it’s the only way they survive as well as stealth. Thief needs some more diversity actually……like more weapons. Sword, Dagger, Pistol, and Shortbow is not that great. Not to mention that Shortbow is the only 2 handed weapon so the whole 2 sigils on 2 handed weapons now is almost worthless to thieves.
Also, Lyssa Runes….I don’t know how I feel on them really. I don’t feel like they are that op, but they are getting changed anyways this patch so don’t really have much say.
Lol. I’m sorry but there are so many PvE’ers that say that you shouldn’t be able to get PvE gear in PvP (not that you’re one of them). I get so tired of hearing “yet another PvP’er asking for something we work to get in PvE. Why do you think you should be able to get what we have? Etc. Etc.” The rant goes on. I believe every PvE person should be able to get every PvP gear and every PvP person should be able to get every PvE gear all with some balanced level of difficulty. Either that or everything should be completely seperate but you’re allowed to bring any gear you’ve earned in any specific way to another side of the game.
And yet you all think that you are in a worse spot because you’re getting nerfed worse on this update? Nah. Thief has been needed every single update since the beginning of time. Its in need for a buff and maybe some more weapons. Has no diversity at all and the only one handed weapon it has is the short bow so the whole 2 sigils is almost worthless for thief. I understand that you guys are getting nerfed as well but thief has just been getting worse and worse since launch and its extremely dissapointing and is in need in a buff. I hope that what they haven’t announced yet regarding this new patch includes some helpful variety and such for thief to make it more fun to play.
They have to get money some way people. Just saying.
Daaaaang. That blows lol. Luckily I’m not on a server that does that but I would be extremely angry if I were.
This isn’t a nerf, this is a fix. Deceptive Evasion is useless when you run a phantasm build. Whenever you have 3 phantasms up and you have this trait, you would be unable to dodge. Because it would destroy your powerful phantasm and destroy your damage output in the process.
Have you ever considered that a simple fix that it wouldn’t override phantasms would have also fixed this? Heck, if they did that and did the same for the scepter, it would solve several problems.
It already does that. Clones do not ever override phantasms. They only override other clones.
I personally look up on YouTube any game I want to get before I purchase it. How I came upon guild wars 2 was because of reviews like angryjoe, literally. I was looking for a better mmo to play cause I hated the ones I was playing and so many reviews said great things about guild wars 2 that I purchased it.
Not to barge in and be an kitten , but clones do deal damage. The main source of that damage are the staff clones and when you have 3 up it is a hell of a lot of conditions being put up on you. I won’t bring the other clones into this because the melee damage they do is minimal but when it comes to the staff clones they aren’t dps which is a set amount of damage, they are a lot of conditions.
I didn’t read the comments above. Although this would be cool I would see major farming as a result between guilds if there were a reward. Example would be two guilds alternating winning and losing to get the rewards quick and easy.

Anyone who did that story was jumping for joy when we were getting 3-4 exotic weapons and armors and a very good chance at a precursor. If we had more chests like that poping up ever now and then I imagine people won’t be so sore about how hard it is to get 1.
If everyone has super-powers then nobody is a super hero.
People on my server have a knack for acquiring legendaries (and by requirement precursors) and I see them so kitten ed often that I have absolutely no interest in getting one for myself. They aren’t anything special at all. If ANet made precursors drop like you are implying then all servers would have this problem.

Wow, you don’t get it. You want another pet when you have spirits. You can have as many pets/spirits as a necro and you want more on the screen? More clutter. And did I not mention that necros have to slot minions as utilities while you don’t with pets? Oh wait, you didn’t respond to that because you know you’re wrong. LOL you mean tldr: Make pets do everything and kill everyone so I can sit in the back and have some popcorn. You should not have 2 pets. No thank you. You should not have more pets added, you already have 400 of them. What you really need is better balance with the pets so others are used more. I mean I could go through this whole post but I think its all pretty self explanatory that almost everything you said is over the top op/ridiculous. Necros themselves shouldn’t even be able to have so many minions and your pets don’t even take up any utility slots like theirs do.

Two sigil slots for two-handed weapons!
No more shared cooldowns!!
RNG reduced – percent chance on crit will probably just become 100% on-crit
Still only one stacking sigil type (bloodlust, perception etc.)
Dual swap sigils WILL both proc. (e.g. Battle + Geomancy or Air + Fire)
Runes
Adding strong bonuses further towards rune #4/5/6 to give more benefit of having full sets
Added more condi duration on early bonuses so 2/2/2 is still possible
Examples: Strength: 1) 25 power, 2) 10% might duration, 3) 50 power, 4) 15% might duration and 25% might proc on hit, 5) 100 power, 6) 20% might duration, +5% damage under might.
Fixing Rune #6 bonuses and other rune bugs (e.g. Ranger runes etc.)
They’ve done a balance pass over runes and sigils to try to improve diversity.
PVP
Adding new unlockable stat combos for PVP (similar to how new heal skills are being added)
This is more speculative / for future, probably not in next build
Balance Preview – There will be balance updates in the next build:
Elementalist
Signet of Restoration is restored to full power (no more pve/pvp split)
Armor of Earth cooldown goes from 90s to 75s (pre-cantrip mastery)
3 seconds of Regen added to Water Trident (for up to 5 allies) – supportcondi removal for scepter
Burning Speed now evades during cast! (more melee survival for d/d)
Frozen Burst is now a blast finisher! (can combo with Burning Speed)
Engineer
Net Turret immobilize reduced by 1 second
Poison grenades – poison applied per tick reduced from 5 to 3 seconds

Think that was all I really like. Otherwise the healing signet has been reduced a small amount which is 30hps. Doesn’t seem like enough to me and they are talking about buffing the active. Thief has been nerfed in two ways, the first being the 10% crit damage nerf and then the poison fields and such. I pretty much stopped paying attention when they said nerf. Next being mesmer’s dodge mechanic that creates clones when traited. This is such a huge nerf. I agree that PU needs to be nerfed but not in this way. I don’t get it. Those clones are used to trick someone while in stealth to think that is you. They need to nerf the aspect of mesmers hiding in PU while delivering a lot of damage at the same time.
Other than that, there are some good things coming when it comes to runes and signets.
I really don’t understand how they don’t see how powerful conditions are in this game when it comes to PvP right now. That means sPvP and WvW. It seems all they are looking at is dungeons and PvE in general. There were no major nerfs to Conditions in general and there’s a nerf to DPS. Why?

These changes will be on the next update according them which is the 21st. Only thing they said that wouldnt be in this patch is the new unlockable stat combos for PvP. I think a lot of these changes are great except for the fact that conditions still rule all PvP aspects of the game and now even more.

Yes, this is why skyhammer is so much fun. Thiefs/Engineers/Ranger all have funny abilities to be more important on skyhammer.

What is the thieves skill that’s so important for sky hammer besides hoping you’re facing a necro and stealing their fear? Not being rude at all, I’m just curious if I’m missing something.
Stealth + Scorpion wire – you run across the “glass” as well so that by the time the pull occurs, your target is screwed without a teleporting stunbreaker and great timing.
Ahhhh, forgot about the holes. Was just thinking about knocking em off the side after watching that hilarious video. That definitely would work although its not nearly as efficient as other classes.

Bahahahaha, I’m sorry but that made me literally laugh out loud. I just pictured him actually rolling his face across his keyboard and winning.
Anyways, its because you’re new man, this game is SO different than SWTOR. You actually have to hit with your abilities and dodge to have them miss. So you have to take time to get used to that. I really sucked in the begi king as well. I’d first get into some PvE and WvW before you jump into PvP to get used to how the game plays and your class. You’ll soon be stomping everyone’s face with your warrior. Lookup different builds for warrior. You really have to take some time to get used to everything first, can’t expect to jump in and start owning everyone from the start. Warriors are the most powerful class at the moment and the easiest to learn so you picked a good first class. Stealth is not that great in sPvP as it doesn’t allow you to cap points. Thieves are nowhere near op and aren’t that great. Just give it some time to get used to and don’t jump into sPvP right away. Check out the warrior forums and ask for some pointers and you’ll get a bunch of help from them.

Flipping is the biggest gold sink in the game. If there wasn’t the tp you would be paying top dollar for other gold sinks. Think of paying 10s+ for a wp? Or paying 15s for a basic salvage kit? There are a lot more examples I could throw in there. Vendor prices would escalate. The choice is yours really. I mean how do you think the flippers get their items that they flip? They put in a buy order for a much smaller price and it gets filled. You can do the same. Clicking the buy instantly button is for convenience. Its the consumers fault if they do that. You can always put in a buy order for a much smaller price just like the flippers do.
All I have to say is, condition damage in spvp and wvw is so over the top it sucks to play sometimes. And if they buff it by doing this, they will have only ripened the meta with maybe people picking different gear to do more conditions. No thank you and please god no. I’ll take skill with melee over passive conditions any day.
And they say they are making “critical damage changes”. Sounds like yet another nerf to thief to me, just not directly. Discuss.

if i wanted legendary weapon then i would play pve which i do. if i wanted ascended armor i play pve which i do. why do pvp players think they deserve what pve players have also? and dont give me that crap answer because pver wants what pvp have which is the finisher. LOL is there any rank 50 or even rank 60 and 70 who goes to any pve event like world boss and do a /rank and get message like wow your cool? answer is NO cause they dont care! what they do care is how shinny your legendary is and your ascended armor. which pvper want shinny thing you can only get in pve, but doesnt wanna play pve.
You DO get a rank finisher in PvE. WvW season one winners as well as you can get it at the gem store. What makes PvE players think that they can have everything and PvP players can’t? AND your argument makes no sense with what my post has to do with AT ALL. I’m asking for skin “progression”. So again where does what your saying become relevant to this post at all? We already have gear, I’m asking it to be limited based on how you progress in PvP. Please read it first before you post things that make no sense. But I’ll bite a little. Why do we think we deserve what PvE players have? Because our content is much more difficult than yours is. I do PvE all the time, I leveled my character to 80 in less than a month. I do dungeons and can finish them in 5-15 min they are so easy. Not to mention I face players where I can’t predict what they are going to do next while when I face dumb ai I know exactly what they are going to do, hell it even says what they can do when you click on them and look at the ui. Its so much more difficult yet we don’t get even close to half of the rewards that you do. Thanks.

I used to think that people at r40+ were really good just because they had waaaay better looking armor, especially when they hit r50+ and some of the armor looks even better on humans, Norn or sylvari. But then Skyhammer was introduced and ranks literally meant nothing since then. Because a huge chunk of ppl cheated their way out of properly ranking up and earning glory like every1 else had by glory farming/rank farming Skyhammer 24/7. Ranks and armor have little to show for now…but the armor skins u earn at r40+ are still pretty cool.
P.S.
good luck getting to rank70-80. and it’s almost pointless to go for max rank, aside from the Pvp titles/achievements. No matter what rank u are, if u have the gold and glory, u can just buy the cultural gear and dungeon armor for like 20k glory and 1g50s, 40k glory and 3g50s and 60k glory and 60 gold
You’re basically agreeing with my post. That’s what I’m saying.
And when I talk about gear progression people I’m talking about skin progression in other words. Its the gear you wear so that’s the word I was referring to. I’m not meaning to say that we should progress with better stats, just better looking gear.

Cool looking gear doesn’t suddenly get less cool looking just because someone else can wear it. If it does to you, you’d probably should rethink your priorities.
Its the same way the trading post and economy works. When there a more of one item, it becomes less in value. So yes it does.

That doesn’t make sense. Lol. You will still lose to someone based on skill. I’m not asking to add better stats to harder to get hear like in PvE.
A better alternative would be to make it so PvPers earn gear that can only be earned in PvP. The same for PvE. There should be gear that is hard to obtain so that it is more rewarding, and that same gear should be only rewarded in PvP or PvP. The gear obtained in PvE could be a rare drop, or earned by accomplishing all of a dungeons achievements. If needed add hard modes? The PvP obtainable gear could be based on ladderboards, rank, or obtainable achievements. The harder the task the more you want the gear because you’ll see less of it. This will give us a sense of accomplishment rather than just farming forever, or buying gear that everyone has. Essentially the more accomplished (more skilled?) you are in either PvP or PvE should reflect in the gear you have earned.
Not to say you couldn’t wear the PvE gear in PvP or PvP gear in PvE, we just need gear that can be only earned in the respective game type to show everyone what we have accomplished.

……let me put it in a different context. When they make it so that PvP gear can be worn in PvE and PvE in PvP, people can just go to sPvP, play a couple rank matches, salvage their items, make an orrian or cultural set or w/e, jump back into PvE after maybe getting to about rank 5? Then at low levels be wearing flashy good gear.Maybe not with stats, guessing skins but same difference. When everybody’s wearing cool looking gear, it really isn’t cool anymore. You’ll be seeing someone at lvl 3 with a crazy purple glowing great sword while all PvE players can get is the dull plain grey small one. I think there needs to be better progression comparative to how PvE progresses when it comes to your skins.
This is one thing in spvp that would be huge. As it stands, you get a tournament box when you win a ranked match and that box has random gear in it. Along with that there’s the mystic forge which you can forge high level gear in seconds like its nothing. I forged a full set of orrian gear for my mesmer in 5 min and it made me feel……nothing. I didn’t feel like I progressed at all, I felt like I cheated the system. You shouldn’t be able to get high level gear so easily. Right now in spvp when I get into a match most of the time I can’t tell the difference between an experienced player and a new player by looking at them. Don’t get me wrong I know you can purchase boxes for every 10 levels you progress but noobs shouldn’t be able to get such flashy fancy gear when they haven’t even spent that much time in it. I’m only level 25 and I don’t feel like I deserve the gear I have. You need a good way to get an idea on how far a person has progressed in the game, especially when everyone already has full traits and stats when they enter the area. Currently the only way to tell if someone has progressed is by their rank and the only way to see someone’s rank at the moment is at the end of a match. I believe that gear progression is the most important aspect in any mmo and currently spvp has none. Please give us some gear progression so that when I hit level 70 or 80 I can get that gear that nobody else can and show it off/feel like I earned it. Thanks!

I would agree with you if PvP gear had better progression. As it stands you can be a complete noob and get decked out in pretty good gear just because the tournament boxes are random and its EXTREMELY easy to forge high level gear in spvp. I got my full set of orrian for my mesmer in spvp in 5 min from forging. So simple and easy. I would love to have gear progression in sPvP. Would be a big upgrade from its current state and would give people more of a sense of progression than ranks because most people in MMOs care about getting shiny stuff more than anything else. Just my 2cents, and I’m a huge sPvP fan by the way so I’m not ragging on something I don’t like.
Ya, that doesn’t sound like a friendly server. Server I’m in everyone supports people who are doing what you’re doing. I’d move servers. Doesn’t sound too fun and just sounds like you’re going to get served on and lose a lot lol.
Look up yishis videos on YouTube. It has a lot of survivability with Valkyrie gear and the 30 in shadow arts as well as good mobility with travelers runes.
Seriously, every Elelmentalist in my server uses this build and Arena.net clearly are aware of it so why no immediate action taken in dealing with this Op Unbalance?

You’re argument doesn’t make sense because the content isn’t even out yet so you can’t even criticize it. Now if the content was out and you made a thread about what you didn’t like and about Anet disappointing you then it would completely make sense but the fact that he and you is saying that whatever they come out with is kitten when you don’t even know what it is makes no contribution at all and doesn’t affect anything but other people’s optimism which just isn’t good for anything. Actually, it sounds like there is an expansion planned. “We have a couple of really big Guild Wars projects cooking in the background,” Johanson told me.

I think that Anet can do it. The rewards was such a small part to be added compared to the ladders and such. I think they have a lot planned ahead for us and I’m excited for it.

The buff played a part, yes, but I think you’ll find it was the meta that changed. With the insane pressure warriors and the like can apply now, coupled with the insane (hard for mesmers to deal with otherwise) condition meta in play, heavy stealth use is a mesmers means to survive, and thus remain in this game.
Heavy stealth PU Mesmer > Non heavy stealth PU Mesmer. It’s as simple as that.
You want to see a decline in stealth use for mesmers? Tell Anet to bring a more well rounded Mesmer into the meta they made.
I wasn’t saying it was bad, I was just saying that that was the reason behind his complaint. But the fact that he uses “thieves” in his OP, is totally wrong. In fact I’m sure there are way less thieves than there used to be because of all the stealth and overall nerfs they have had. What he should be saying is solely “mesmers”. There’s plenty of fancy looking armors in the game.
Every single piece of male medium armor is pitifully ugly. None of it (unless you really like long coats or dresses) is appealing to my eyes. None. Zero. 0. Female medium armor is almost as bad but there are a few pieces I like.
Alright, I will have to agree a little bit on the medium armor. There are a couple that look good on the male side for my thief but most I’m not too fond of. I do wish there were some better medium male looking armors for my thief (not too sure about female). But I will say that compared to games like never winter, this game has a godly amount of armor.
does anyone ever see a dungeon lfg saying “cleric gear only” or “valkyrie only” or…….anything other than “zerker only”? I have nothing against being high in power, precision, and crit but when 90% of the population wears zerker gear it’s really disappointing that it seems that’s almost really the only viable one. Yes, I know it isn’t the only one but it is the most preferred by anyone and everyone. Tbh, I would much rather they buff the other gear rather than make everyone mad by nerfing zerker but w/e it is, I hope that they make other gear more viable. I’m tired of seeing that as the only option in dungeons and when someone asks in a thread what kind of gear they should wear you hear almost everyone say “zerker all the way man”. lame, give us more variety.

Evercuest Next sounds amazing. They made so many promises. However, breaking their first that Everquest Landmark would be released end of 2013 was already a joke. If you announce a release in some month that I assume the product is finished and in it’s final testing phase. However, now the alpha or beta is running and Landmark will hit in March (as far as I know). That made them already unbelievable for me and a companie as any other. I expect Everquest Next to be as disapointing as the GW2 “dynamic event” system or “personalized story”.@Phantom.8130:
AI: There is actually much research going on in the matter of AI. However, the term AI is misleading. Because it is a simulated or “virtual” Intelligence (VI). This kind of “intelligence” is strongly scripted and can never keep up with a player. But the research of neuronal networks, that can learn via “microevolution” is very interesting, but far far away from being implemented in a game.
MMOs & Companies: Yeah, what have we seen in GW2? Big promises of dynamic events and the player’s actions in those events to matter. But they never delivered. I blame NCsoft. I think they have pushed the GW2 development way too soon and the qualaty of the game has suffered so much, that it is basilcy like any other MMO. If it wasn’t for the WvW, I would have left that game already.

So many games/everything get delayed. consider it a good thing that they are actually making sure that the game will be great from the start and not a horrible release with tons of bugs. Completely blowing off the whole game over a release date seems a bit far but to each his own. I’m excited, although I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of GW2 either.
I mean, would you rather have started playing and been introduced to so many bugs that it would push you away from liking the game?
