Grouping high ranked players with low ranked players? That’s the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard. You should group high ranked players vs high ranked players and low ranked players vs low ranked players. Sounds like you just want to noob stomp and win all day instead of a real challenge LOL

Its a lot of fun. I definitely suggest it. Go in and have fun! And you can do WvW to Kevel your character to 80 if PvE isn’t purely fast enough as well as crafting which is PvE

Thanks man, I appreciate someone finally responding. I started out as a thief but the skill requirement was a bit high for starting a game that was so different than any other mmo I’ve played so I eventually rolled with mesmer but now that I’m pretty decent I kinda got bored of mesmer and jumped on my thief and love it. Its such a fun class. Such high mobility and burst. I’d love to roam on WvW, just sucks that I’ve wasted all this time on my mesmer and basically got to start from scratch on my thief. Such a low level. Want to find a way to level really fast.
Talking about PvP mainly as well.
Its not really balanced IMO with conditions. Have a necro on opposing team there’s no way. Reason being that there is way too small amounts of combo fields and finishers in certain/most fields in general compared to how many condition aoe attacks there are.
So this is my personal opinion on the matter.
So I feel the combat has a certain level of fun, however it lacks interesting mechanics/fights. I think this is in part due to the game mode, but the combat overall.
So here are some things I’ve been thinking about doing with the combat to help increase its entertainment value.
1. I really like skyhammer’s movement adding things. Not the pitfalls to your death, but the jump pads. I was watching The Hobbit today and those both gave me an idea. Why not increase things in maps that add to mobility in a both negative and positive manner. An example is not only jump pads, but also rivers. Remember in SAB the rivers that if you fall into them they throw you back to the start of the level or make you fall. Put in rivers that if you fall into, you start “going down river” and you have to get out. You dont fall to your death at the end, but it similar aspects could make the combat a bit more interesting to watch.
2. AoEs and combat. Theres a lot of AoEs and a lot of combofields. I feel like combofields can really take up the reigns of the gap that is left by no roles. So today I went into the short list of common builds for each class and took one build that I felt like I see a lot. Out of all the classes a total of 52 AoEs are present in the current meta. This is not including cleaves. 14 of the skills provide a combo field. Some class have many combo fields compared to others. Some have none. Out of these combo fields the only ones that are good are etheral, lightning (which isn’t in the meta), and smoke. The rest are very poor due to the fact that what they applied is easily applied through common utility skills.
So what if we take these combo fields and heavily reduce their accessibility to classes. Make it so that each class only gets one type of combo field and that combo field is unique to that class. They can then trait and change that combofield and the skill its tied to. We then take these effects and make them a lot more meaningful in battles. Ethereal is good because of its simultaneous boon application and condi application. Smoke is good because of how strong a long lasting blind and stealth is. Lightning is good because of its stun lock potential. Then we make it so that not every one is just a circle combo. Some are walls. Others could be like a type of cone. Not everything has to be a circle. I just feel like the combofield system can be refined to something great and make combat 100 times more interesting.
That’s a really good idea. I think if combo fields were a lot more prevalent then this game would truly shine especially with the reduction of condition aoe. And for the person that was talking about people not knowing what was going on in a match that goes with every mmo. You can’t even compare it to a fps. I’ve tried watching LoL’s tournaments and the announcers are saying this happened and that happened and I have absolutely no clue on what is going on. But like I said, more combo fields unique to the class would be amazing as well as a lot less condition aoe.

I’ve been playing a mesmer for awhile now. The thing is it gets so repetitive after awhile. I’m a HUGE fantasy novel/whatever fan and when it comes to MMOs I’ve always been really dissapointed in the elementalist. That is until gw2. There seems to be so much diversity with them not to mention that they can actually have burst and some good power. It seems like a fun class to play. I mainly PvP and I always see threads from ele’s complaining about PvP. Is it worth it to roll one for PvP? I mean I don’t care if I die a lot as long as if I have that satisfying part where I can actually get kills and fast. I’ve always hated warrior and guardian and such as it has nothing magical like about them. And I do not care if its a hard class to play, I can get there eventually. If you all agree that its a great class to play what are some great power builds? I’ve been hit by some crazy stun combo a couple of times where it ends with dragon tooth basically killing me in one hit. Seems crazy burst. What do you all recommend really?
LOL. Kinda hilarious that this exact thing just happened to me actually. The warrior literally sat down on our home and I went over and started unleashing everything and he just stood there not doing anything at all. And I’m a condi mesmer BTW. His signet kept refilling him up that it took me close to 2 min to finally pull his health down to around 20%. Wow……..

I mean…. he isnt trolling, cause its actually what happens. Today i went on some soloQ with my warr, and i could kill the enemy treb with a mesmer dpsing me all the time…. seriously, he was also doing it right: stack vulnerability on me, immobilize, blurred frenzy + shatter…. i could litteraly not care less… i just went on hitting the treb <.<
while i got full shattered 3 times, and the i walked away back to support mid <.<yeh…. super fun meta… whats the point of playing something different from warr-guard-engi comp ?
He’s trolling cause he’s acting as if he’s a warrior owning a mesmers trying to act like he’s saying his own class is OP but in reality if you look at his signature he doesn’t own a warrior and is actually the mesmer complaining that he only put out 5% of damage. He’s trying to twist it really and make himself look like the good guy when really he’s just complaining because he himself got owned. Or at least that’s the way it looks if you’re paying attention to the details :p
EDIT: BTW, I am not saying that he is wrong anyway. I also play mesmer and feel this way sometimes but I usually am able to take down warriors no problem. I am just simply pointing out why people are calling him a troll.

Sounds like you’re pretty new so how you get tournament boxes that have gear inside of them is by winning matches in solo queue or team queue. You will then get a trophy icon on the right hand side of your screen above your minimap that you need to click on to accept the rank points, glory, and tournament chest you have just won. Also every time you gain a new rank you will receive a chest according to your rank in the same area as the trophy. You can also purchase tournament chests and rank chests via the glory vendors in certain locations on the map in the mists.
PvP needs more Guardians. Sacrifice yourself for a bunker.

I find more people rage quitting on me than anything. Saying they are going afk and that we list even when the match is something like 200-130. Very frustrating when this happens as I’ve turned around games from 470-350 before. Then you get the afk people coming in next. Unless you count rage quitters going afk part of being people going afk then afk would be number one.
I’ve never been able to use skills midair and I main aesmer >.>
I’d rather just have the game show your rank number instead of saying that everyone is level 80. Only way I have been able to see someone’s rank is if they /rank or I play with them in a match and it ends.
I completely agree. I started out with power builds and I have to resort to having a build that I can survive as long as possible dealing low burst and killing gradually over time. Its just not feasible having a power build imo.
Now I do agree afk’ing needs to be dealt with but it doesn’t happen that often as all I’ve done is PvP for the last month. And nerfing achievements isn’t a way to fix being afk. If what you’re complaining about is people being afk atm then have them fix that and not achievements.

I don’t as said above, but some people want to complete every aspect of a game.
But if you’re not a PvP player and are incapable of winning tPvP, then why? To keep up with people on the leaderboards? I guess you just aren’t hardcore enough if you’re not able to do every daily and are going to get the place on the leaderboards, by the way. There’s a word that describes this behavior perfectly btw: Starts with A, ryhmes with Ballistic.
Why do you think so? Who tells you i’m a bad sPvP player? I’ve spend alot of time in there and still enjoying it, again you assume i meant myself. But it’s not a secret that you get 80% of the times an afk person in your tournament team especially now with the new daily which would make it even more annoying.

It’s planned that all PvP/PvE armours will be able to be taken to each other game mode, but I think that is the wrong direction to go in, personally, because it devalues the sets in PvE that are hard to obtain there at the same time as devaluing the sets in PvP that are hard to obtain here.
They should keep them separate, I don’t even know why they’re joining them.
Yes there are sets that are easier to obtain in one area or the other way around but I think they are going in the right direction here. What they should have done or should do though was/is to make PVE exclusive sets and PVP exclusive sets. That way, the essence of prestige and separation of game modes are there even if gears become universal.

- Change Caps Lock Key into a Control Key
This is an awesome idea for myself being that you don’t have to stretch your pinky all the way down in order to get some more custom hotkeys - Swap the Caps Lock Key and the Control Key
Same thing as before except you can keep Caps Lock if you want it except it will be in a reasonable place and your control key will be in a easier to reach place - Disable Caps Lock Key and the Windows Key entirely

I would use instant ground targeting if I was able to change the appearance of my curao so I could see it more visibly.

This really is solely due to your internet connection. I have never once experienced lqg in game except for once which was yesterday. BUT my team speak was lagging as well so it obviously wasn’t due to the game.

I win the majority of my matches playing team q anyways. I love it. Sky hammer doesn’t push me away from solo q though. And like previously stated, the devs listen more to the players especially regarding PvP than any other memo I’ve ever played. People should be more grateful. Every other memo I’ve played the devs have responded little to mostly absolutely never. I think since everyone has gotten used to the devs actually paying attention to their players inputs that that is the reason why these forums are so active with people trying to get the devs input.

About that new necromancer heal doesnt it steal health? I mean you say that the new heal is bad and that diamond skin is overpowered why not just use your new heal steal health 1 or 2k and bam diamond skin aint taking effect.
Wasting my heal, given my profession has some of the worst sustain in the game, just to overcome your passive effect seems kind of unbalanced. Following that logic, Ele’s didn’t need this since Ether Renewal would just cleanse Dhuumfire, but as it turns out, that didn’t quite work in practice.
I’d also like to add that an elementalist let go off alot of damage to pick up this trait which might be very strong agianst rabid/settlers but as said would be completly useless vs a thief for example. A Grandmaster trait that is useless vs certain classes but good vs others, a fair trade!
That’s really up to you, but to me, that seems awful, as you screw over exactly one build by giving little chance to compete while gaining virtually no added benefits. Not only does this suck for Necros, it seems pretty bad for Eles too.
Didnt see anyone complain about that warrior trait that makes them deal more damage depending on how meny boons their oppenent has.

this is a teamfight oriented game and shaving 1-2k hp off a elementalist is a pretty simple task if you bring a friend.I don’t see what the first part has to do with this. Extra damage is not the same as immunity – you can dodge a Warrior’s extra hard hits.
As for the second comment, while it’s true, relying on your team is just terrible form. Why would any team want to bring someone that has to be carried? Necros already suffered focus-fire issues and often needed a hand – now we need support to do damage as well?
That is the second time you’ve mentioned that having someone else on your team get an eli under 90% is carrying you. Do you not understand the fundamentals of a team game? A team carrying you would consist of you not being able to kill anyone on the team meaning the whole opposite team would be diamond skin eli’s meaning that you weren’t doing anything for the team and thus your team could have won without you. What you’re saying basically is that you don’t care about your team imo. Like they say there is no I in team. A team helps each other in different situations. Do you realize if you have a bunker guardian on your team that since he’s soaking up all the damage and dispencing heals to you according to what you’re saying you are being carried by him. What you’re saying is that you shouldn’t need your team. You’ve got this game all messed up man. And I’m not being harsh at all, I’m just saying that you’re completely wrong about being “carried” by your team. I could name a situation with every single class besides a guardian with this as well. Argument=invalid. Its a team game period. All I can say is don’t go in a dueling arena and play a diamond skin eli cause that’s all you seem worried about. Everyone on a team has to rely on each other in order to succeed. If one person isn’t doing their job right on a team you can lose simple as that. “You” don’t carry your team. A team carries each other.

That’s actually a pretty cool system. The only thing I see being an issue is it messing with people’s hotkeys so I’m not too sure. I would still rather have voice chat within groups as Neverwinter does as you can communicate more clearly without having to press anything.
I always have Null Field on. It’s great for boon stripping as well as giving my whole team chaos armor with a blast finisher. weeeee

I don’t understand why people don’t want downed state. Can they not finish what they started? I think it would be cool if there was an option to kill yourself in downed state for sure so that you’re not sitting there bleeding out if there is no option for you to be rezzed.
Downed state is a great aspect of PvP. It gives you a chance to turn the fight around. And if anything it has a great aspect for esports. I mean esports is all about entertainment and if someone gets downed and the fight looks finished and all of a sudden they rally and win the fight. I mean I can see the announcers right now going chaotic with excitement when the fight completely turns around. Ya, definitely wrong on this one buddy. Sorry
Yes it is confirmed. Just not implemented yet. You will be able to wear your PvE skins in PvP and your PvP skins in PvE.
The perfect or even close to perfect PvP would be fun PvP, I hope that’s taken further into account for 2014.
agreed but their must be something to make it more fun than you think it already is. more fun is a very broad and open statement.
I suppose the main change for me would be focusing on builds or more specifically weapons that are already great fun but underwhelming. The other main change is game modes but since that is well underway on being worked on i’m not going to complain about that.
Don’t get me wrong there are so many great things about this game, the combat system, the design, the art, the character build modeling just to name a few.
I just feel like i’m playing a demo that I keep logging onto everyday hoping that this is the time I’ll have fun.
The more I think about it I just wish there were healers and tanks to make things easier to balance, the concept of not having them is sooooo good but it’s just not practical and support builds ARE NOT fun.
buttttt since this isn’t a practical solution then may I suggest that Anet start taking balance risks, what do you have to lose? The remaining 10 players? I don’t care if something is always OP as long as that rotates every two weeks and not two months. I mean, you are already close to balance as is and can’t take it much past that point while skills are so intertwined with pve so esports can’t happen yet anyway.
tldr Stop with the support builds or at least design a way to make them feel like they are actually contributing something. They obviously are helpful but they don’t feel that way when you can’t physically see numbers if you give group fury or prot even if it was a game changing play.
Thank you! That was an awesome post compared to your first. I agree though about the PvP feeling like a demo. Makes me think back in the day when I was hardcore into Halo PC and only the demo was out and I played the map Blood gulch over and over and over again and even had clans in the demo. The only difference on GW2 is that its not the same map but the same game type.
Please contribute peeps. I see it on every other thread but its all focusing on what is bad and not what could make it better.

If you don’t agree with one, challenge me on it. Like I said before I feel as though everybody is ranting about what you dislike in the game in random threads rather than what could be an improvement. Hype it up with good ideas people. Devas don’t have every idea out there. When a dev makes a change to improve something people rant about how they did it wrong. If you know a better way then give them the idea that’s in your head before the change is implemented so that they have more ideas to go off of.

Please delete this post. I made a similar post about the map regarding something else in the bugs section and was given a warning by a moderator for basically in a way informing others about how to cheat which is understandable and I get it. You need to report this with a ticket and not on the forums. I was told that reporting it to the exploit team is a good idea to let them know how often it is occurring.
Like everyone else has said that is a way to ruin the game for everyone else. Hot join is a different story as you can see the map before you join and if you leave you are likely to he replaced if it isn’t already unbalanced teams as it is but doing that in solo q is unacceptable. I’m sure you’re one to complain about 4v5s and afk’s and then do it yourself. I really hope that Anet fixes this issue soon with penalties so that people like you earn your place in the PvP community.
Sorry double post but I think it would be nice if the devas gave us a predicted time non when the new ladder system is going to be in place this would satisfy a lot of players about matchmaking if its not too long. If we’re talking a year down the road than something probably needs to be changed now IMO.
There’s a fresh crowd of new sPVP players — this is a very good thing. As they get better at understanding positioning and rotations in tPVP, they will get better. Hotjoin does not train players to tPVP. It never will. It’s a fun mode for trying out new builds or having a quick relaxing game.
In a week, the MMR system will have figured out the MMR of all these new players and matchmaking will improve. The only problem is that new players start with an MMR that’s too high for the average player.
At the same time I regret my post because you may also be right.
I say rank 10 solo q and rank 20 team q or else it might push people away from PvP because it would take them too long to get to rank 20 doing hot join. But yes I fully agree there needs to be a rank requirement to do ranked matches. To the person above that said it should go the opposite that I said with team matches being lower rank requirement all I say is that you can still solo q in team q.
