I’m super stoked for this. Finally get to wait somewhere useful when queuing for PvP.
this delves into a few problem areas with MMOs in general. the difference between a real challenge and an artificial challenge. mobs in PvE usually constitute an artificial challenge. that isn’t to say that PvE can’t be difficult, it usually is. however the difficulty is due to this artificial challenge. a real challenge revolves around approximately even terms. basically, both sides working within the same set of rules. before MMOs came out, NPC enemies in RPGs were built exactly the same as the player characters. the same rules and standards, the same abilities and spells. so if you fought a monster that was equal level to you, it would be a very difficult fight that you weren’t assured to win.
with MMOs, and most video games in general, that dynamic got tossed completely out the window. NPC mobs began operating under their own custom ruleset. they were given more HP and better damage. even in games like NWN, where the mobs could be equipped with gear, they were given these advantages and even given access to much much better gear than any of the players would ever see. this became the new definition of a challenge. so when players complain that something isn’t challenging, instead of altering the fight itself to make it a challenge, most developers just boosted the NPCs far beyond what the PCs were capable of, and called it a day.
the reason given for that is that the AI can’t compare with what a human mind can do. the truth is, AI never even bothers to attempt it. it’s been left as dumb as a rock for decades now. the same AI we faced in the original zelda game for the NES is the same AI we’re facing now, just with some more tricks. at the core, though, it’s the same. “move to player, attack attack attack, die, possibly drop loot”
what’s really interesting, is that in single player games, the AI has improved, and has improved a great deal. enemies in games such as metal gear solid are far more intelligent and realistic than anything we’ve ever seen in any MMO. there’s actual intelligence, reasoning, deduction. “there’s a wet footprint on the ground. who left it? where did it come from? they lead this way, i’ll follow it and see what’s there.” as compared to “my jedi mind powers are telling me that there’s someone standing over there…… BERSERKER MODE ACTIVATE”

The bad bugs are the “exploit” bugs. That players can do to another team to handicap them. I won’t mention them or even the maps that they are on again because I’ll get banned again for doing so but they really need to get fixed.
Taunt is never gonna happen lol. Its so unrealistic and against the lore of humanity. Almost every single mom out there that’s new or soon to be has gotten rid of it and are trying to instead make NPC’s smarter and not attack the hardest target and such
Other than that though, I completely agree with the op’s post.
I think the reason it’s at 40% is to have an actual impact on all condition skills.
ie: a large portion of the conditions applying skills have really short durations, for which a 10% bump would have zero effect.
Conditions in general are already way overpowered and ridiculous. Short durations are a good thing. Next thing they should do is nerf the damage output or some way to take us out of this absurd condition meta.

If this game was buy to play I would expect all content available at launch until the next expansion with the exception of transfers, storage, character slots, boosters, which would be available in the MTX store, then I would buy the next expansion for additional content.
If this game were Free to play, I would expect all base launch content available at launch with everything else to be purchased from the MTX store, including new skins, vanity items, transfers, boosters, character slots, storage etc etc.
If this game were subscription model It would include launch content and all future content available at subscription price, this would mean makeover kits, transmutation crystals, character slots, bag space, bank space, skins the whole darn lot would be available for your subscription price. If an expansion ensued, it would be at the cost of an expansion, not a full game. I would not pay a subscription for anything less personally.
This game seems to be trying to blend the top two models together in an attempt to get more out their business model, and then offer gimmicky VIP’s for additional money. Whoever is running the show is going down a very slippery slope if the OP is legit.
I totally agree on your 3 options.. Well maybe boosters should also not go into a B2P model but I can live with transfers / extra char slots and name changer but that’s really it.
I did go for and had much hope for GW2 thinking it would go the B2P way as you describe it and much like they did mainly in GW1.
Sadly it now indeed looks more like the second (F2P) one with the difference that you do need to buy the game first.
In comparison, I can play Neverwinter for free and still not feel forced into the MTX store as much as I do in GW2. I agree with the Nexon theories tbh

There wouldn’t be much point to clones if the enemy could just hold target on you all the time.
The very short periods of stealth allowed to the Mesmer are just there to break the target lock and give the clones a chance to confuse you.As for clone damage: Clones are slow and clumsy. They need to get to melee range to hit you and they only have a few seconds life once they are commanded to ‘kill’. Just evade them.
Phantasms are a different matter – but they are easy to identify because they’re pink and transparent.I rolled a Mes because I found them difficult to fight and wanted to find out their weaknesses. I suggest you do the same.
Not with staff clones. When you have multiple staff clones up they throw a kitten tons of conditions on you. <3 mesmer staff

OK, you completely misunderstood me it seems on certain parts. Let me go through your post.
1. You’re going to trait for it regardless if you’re running a PU mesmer build. Unless you’re trying to go out of the ordinary but it’s not going to be as effective.
2. They may be slow moving but when you have 2-3 up that’s a lot less time inbetween attacks and saying a dodge roll will get you out of it you only get 2 dodge rolls so….when you have lets say 2 phantasms up you can dodge those 2 attacks if you are pretty good at it, not to mention that the mesmer may not plant them all down at the same time so timing your dodges will be a bit harder to do and you have to focus your eyes onto the phantasms to know when to dodge. This leaves open the mesmer to attack you which you can’t dodge because you don’t have any left. Add in a 3rd phanatasm and that’s 2 attacks you can’t dodge. Now after those initial attacks your dodge meter will not be ready to dodge by the time the next phanatsm/mesmer attacks come around again. You can’t negate all damage from one roll/dodge. You’re only solution is to kill the mesmer faster or kill the phantasms/clones which will add a condition onto you. BUT killing phantasms doesn’t put a hefty condition on you so it’s reasonable to kill them even though they have more health than a clone they still are relatively easy to take down compared to a minion from a necro.
3. It doesn’t take that long to get 3 phantasms up but I understand what you’re saying about giving away your position with no clones. But hiding in stealth lets the phantasms apply their damage anyways while the mesmer noobs it up watching them do all the damage. When he comes back out of stealth, yes he is vulnerable for attack.
4. I’m not insulting you, I just don’t understand what you wrote completely so I’ll refrain from commenting on this one.
5. Alright, they are on longer CD’s, I guess I just felt that they weren’t because by the time I was in for my next enemy I always had at least one available to use again and by the time that one was done I had another, etc. I guess what I was trying to say was that most of the time when you come up to an enemy you usually have some of your invis skills off of CD. This one I’ll give to you in the context of it being a longer CD. But when it comes to being able to use them with a PU build, you usually always have some off of CD by the time you get into your next fight unless you blow all of them at once in a single fight and still haven’t finished the fight and need to use another.
6. Again, they may be easily evaded but when you have multiple up like I said before you can’t dodge forever and kiting either gets you off of the point or is running away from the fight which basically means you lost.
7. You completely misunderstood what I was saying. I was not saying I was better than anyone at all. If you read what I said, I was saying that so someone didn’t come at me and say that I was saying this because I’m, lets say a necro?, and that it’s a L2P issue. I was proving that it’s not because I’m dying and annoyed from mesmers but because I play the class and I’m talking about myself basically. I hope you get what I’m saying here.
8. I don’t get what you’re saying here. That I’m lying about the targeting system being good? What I was saying in my original post was that a mesmer has stealth for one reason only imo, and that reason is to trick the opponent into thinking that the player is one of his clones. If you all want the targeting system to always select the player with a mesmer than a PU build would be destroyed unless you’re using it for what I think it shouldn’t be used for and that is just to hide in the shadows and take a break while your phantasms and clones do all the damage.
9. So you’re saying that you use the PU build so that you can hide in the shadows and let the phantasms do the damage but not to actually trick the opponent into thinking one of your clones is you?
Overall, a mesmer is not overpowered in the slightest compared to a class such as the MM Necro or Spirit Ranger when their minions have health pools closely related to the players themselves. All I was doing was pointing out some of the flaws in what people were saying about L2P issues and when people say false things like they did it really irks me. But what I’m getting from you is that you’re a mesmer that uses his invisibility to hide and let the phantasms do the work for you and not for its real purpose which is to fool the opponent into thinking youre someone else and getting their targeting messed up. The mesmer class description says it’s supposed to be a class that tricks you, not hides from you. If you’re not what I’m thinking you are when it comes to a mesmer then please explain you’re reasoning on #8 and #9 that you opposed me on.

Just wanted to add that not only do people such as tentanseum need this but I believe the whole community would like this. Nobody uses the keyboard turn because its so slow but if the speed were increased or if you had a slider or something the. I think that A LOT more people would actually use it, maybe even more than their mouse.
I think both take a lot of time to do but I see making a profession would be more complicated when it comes to balance so I would see a race coming first. Although I’d rather see a profession

So I always hear everyone talking about Scarlet and such on these forums. How do I get up to date on the story? Am I too late? I went to the wreckage of the nightmare one where you get the tricolor key but I don’t think that was the full dungeon or story. I got a tricolor key from completing it. Do I use that somewhere? 4. Clone death traits do not affect phantasms. They will only have retaliation for 5 seconds if a phantasm build.
6. Thieves can do the same thing with Thieves guild and spike you for scary damage with backstab. Phantasms have attack cooldowns and won’t constantly attack when the Mesmer is in stealth. Swings and roundabouts when comparing Thief and Mesmer stealth.

The balance forum you were going to add? I read on multiple dev posts that with these forum changes we were also going to get a specific forum related to balance suggestions/proposals to the game? Have you just not added it yet and plan to in the next couple of days or have you scrapped that idea? I think that kind of sub forum was the best idea you had with all of these changes and I really hope you haven’t scrapped that idea.

I just tried “-repair” in the shortcut to repair it and it sends me an error report and closes down the launcher when i run it as well
Ugh, having so many issues lately. Well if you saw my last thread in here it was about me not being able to log in. Well, I was able to log in and play fine last night. Then I get on today and it is just crashing every single time I try to play the game. If I go into my shortcut properties and put -windowed in the target I am able to get the game open to the character screen. Although, when I click “Play” on the launcher it sends me an error report even though I’m able to get to character selection. Once I click a character and try to enter the game it sends me another report and sends me on a never ending Lion’s Arch loading screen. Now when I’m in full screen mode it won’t even let me get to character selection. I’ll post my error log below. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I’ve been scouring the net for solutions but haven’t found any yet.

Bah, forget what I posted. Figured out “my” problem :p
I even just tried reinstalling the game client and it still is telling me wrong username or password……
I don’t understand. I just purchased a new computer, transferred the files over to this one and whenever I open the game client everything runs smoothly until I enter my username and password and it says that they are not correct. I’ve tried changing my password twice and both times it still has said that it’s the wrong pass. Please help? I would really like to play my favorite game on my new incredible super computer. Thanks

I agree. The biggest thing to me is that there is absolutely no point in making a waypoint if the gate can just get tagged. Its pointless. Absolutely pointless. I do see that people would feel bored/not contributive if they can’t damage the gate though. But I don’t think its too big of a deal. When would orange swords popup? That’s another question. From what I understand orangs swords popup when there’s about 25 people dps’ing the gate which let’s the whole map know where you are and that you are a good sized zerg. Overall I think PvD has to go as well and the other small issues that would go along with it can be fixed pretty easily.

Cool thats your opinion, I take this opportunity to see things like League of Legends and within the first TWO years they added one game type…aka 3v3 treeline….tribunal system….and a number of heros….thats it….and they didnt have PvE or WvW to work with….I’m quite content waiting for a game to ripen myself =)
Its interesting that people quote LoL a lot, a game that had a good design for a game mode, and the matches tend to last 45 mins. Do you see the HUGE difference? they offer a longer more overall package (short term play, long term plans, set ups, attrition, lots of ways to win (I only play DoTA 2 and I assume its much the same). The ways in which a single game can be played and the huge amount of different set ups (char sets etc) mean the game has an awful lot to do in a single match.
And that is my main point, this game has so little to do in the game. You dont even need a healer tank dps, just kill things, cap a few points, kill some more, maybe die, spawn, cap a few more things, kill some dudes, kill a few more. Some specs will alter on that, like a thief might cap and kill more, but more running as well. Something tanky just stands their and waits for a fight then backup, or no backup and just die. Then come back and recap with backup. Thats it, its so utterly simple and boring.
Not to mention this mode promotes tanks and bursts. Death match (which for some reason ANet hate, cannot blame them though, it would be so much hard work for them to do, it would be like building a huge game all over again. Not just remove caps or have one (king of the hill, capture the flag, I will happily play football with char if thats what they want just something other than the same god kitten mode over and over again)
Oh and lets talk about the “meta”. Its such a silly term as it implies that someone is trying to steer the ship, it really isnt. The “meta” or as I call it “who got nailed in the nerfs and who got bummed in the buffs this time”.
Thats all this so called meta is, who is currently broken again and which of those makes them more powerful. Thats all it is going to be from now and on forever, no new modes, nothing interesting, just the same old story.
I swear down, in a few years all classes will just have GS and it will be two attacks. Damage and More Damage. Would it really be such a drop in skill to play the game? one mode, one player, one attack. They even pad out the maps with PVE elements, because PVP players love NPC bosses in PVP. You never see it go the other way, imagine if for no real reason in your dungeon group you just started beating each other to death for some copper ore or something. Just plop that around the dungeons and see how long people will say they love it.

The game isn’t purely about wvw. Downed state can change a battle in PvP completely if people aren’t making their stomps and the people losing rally off of someone else.
Give me half and I’ll let Anet know the situation so you wont have problems :p

I completely agree. I’ve always said this on every game I’ve gone to that PvE and PvP nerfs and buffs should be seperate and not effect each other. Main reason is because you always get the PvE crowd hating on the PvP crowd and it causes extreme tension and also is probably one of the reasons that buffs and nerfs happen a certain way or take longer to do because they have to keep both play styles in mind. If they seperate them then there would be no arguments, things would get done faster, and the changes would be more efficient and directed at your specific play style whether it be PvE or PvP.

41k hp and 4100 armoe is nothing since you have no blocks,no protection and you are vulnerable to all incoming damage and conditions except stun,kb and fear(wich only fear is condi btw).
A guardian can do it minimu 6x times better since protection = 33% more hp regarding dps taken and has zero diminishing returns like armor has,or It just ads itself over the current armor basicly having 7000 ish armor.Guard can condi cleanse while carrying,block/blind and heal like a boss.Rampage is just a strawman practice target with 40k hp really easy to take down in seconds even by only 1 player.Exactly like a bunker guard (<-sarcasm).

I play this tank build second week,did maaaaany match. I wont waste time for type useless post. but with my build + rampage. I walk like a boss. most of tanky builds have about 3500 defence. if u think extra 600 make no sence,you are very wrong.I asking for nerf for my self,sounds stupid,but I want some balance. if I pick up orb,hard to stop me.
Protection is like wearing another 3k armor buddy,especially when you already have high armor.The tankier you are the more protection reduces damage and it does not respond to diminishing returns.You clearly didn’t met a real burst build or a good necro.What are you gonna do against a full condi bomb ?Instead of dying in 4 seconds like a normal hp war you just die in 8 because you can’t cleanse or do anything.Chill and good game.If you really are serious than too bad for you.
You’re talking 3k armor. He’s talking an extra 20k. GG. Not to mention he’s talking specifically for one map. You don’t have to use the elite for all maps. Rematch you can switch elite and use it specifically for a map.
I think people are misunderstanding this thread. He’s not buffing the current available builds in this game. He’s trying to make it so that another build for thief would be usable again which is D/D. He didn’t even make it seem more usable than D/P Trickery build atm. Just made D/D more viable. I think this is a great post and I feel more classes need things like this as well.
There’s only one thing you forgot, which is to give thieves another weapon lol. Seriously, so limited on weapons it’s dumb. Thieves need another weapon or two for more diversity although I agree this post definitely gave it some.

There are some good ele and mesmer builds that would be very strong if meta was changed. They are not viable right now but if warriors get nerfed they might be. Have to be aware of that.
Dunno about Mesmer builds but Warriors are far from the only thing that can steamroll Ele’s.
Lol right? Don’t know where he got that just by meeting warrior it would make ele or mesmer super powerful. Must play a warrior. Ele Gets facerolled by many more classes than just a warrior.
A lot of games have much harsher dealth penalties like corpse runs. Be happy that loot falls at your feet and you can repair your armor and never lose it. Dying before you kill someone just because you tagged them with aoe is not a problem in the slightest. All you did is tag them >.>. That’s almost if not more equivalent in pvo where people tag someone just to get individual points but don’t care about actually killing them.

Kill the clones? You have a trait that when someone kills a clone it gives them conditions. Just saying. By killing the clones you are thus hurting yourself still. And I main a mesmer so I’m not bias here. You actually have 2 traits that add co editions on killing a clone thus giving you 2 conditions every time you kill one.
Don’t know why you guys have to be so harsh on the guy. Constructive criticism works just as well. The community on these forums is a kittening cancer. Nobody uses respectful criticism ever. Its just rage posts with hate which makes someone else/the op respond with a rage post/hate and it goes on and on. The guy was just trying to show a tactic he thinks would help someone else. Vindictus? Vindictus’s PvP is horrible lol, and dead. The combat is cool yes but not as good as gw2. All it has is button smashing on your mouse and dodging nonstop. You don’t even really have different abilities. I wouldn’t even consider it a real mmorpg as its all instanced based and isn’t even that big but I won’t deny its boss battles and such are really cool and for its style of game its a cool idea but its nowhere close similar to normal MMOs. There are games like eqnext and black desert that might be better in the future but as it stands now, gw2 is the best imo. It is all about personal preference though.

Accessing SPvP is confusing.
Joining a team is confusing.
Leaving a game is confusing.
Ranks, Traits, Gear, Weapons.. all confusing.
GW2 seriously needs tooltips for all this.GW2’s SPvP tries to fuse a First-Person Shooter browser with an MMO. This is very bad. It needs to replace Play Now with Random, to make it more clear. The whole browser needs a revamp though.
The combat would be next. GW2’s combat doesn’t work well with PvP, because it’s combat is based on the Fantasy genre. Skills are wasted if you use them while out of range. This is bad, due to the long coolodowns. There isn’t any target-of-target, so it’s combat is random and unpredictable, and not skillful.
I could go on, but there really is no point. SPvP will never radically change the way it should, since it’s devs have a different vision as to how it should be. It would take a total revamp of the combat system, which will never happen.

combat? Best combat an mmo has. It requires skill rather than percentage. If you use a skill outside of range that’s your fault and requires basic “skill”.
Only thing I can kinda agree with are how weapons work since traditional MMOs don’t do this thus it might need some explaining but it tells you at the beginning of the game. And maybe change play now to random but that’s so minimal its not really a big deal and pretty obvious that clicking play now will put you in a random game. If you’re a true beginner at this game as in you’ve never played an mmo before then you need to play it for a bit which every game requires before you even try to start playing it seriously as an esport.
If this is why you think it can’t be an expert than you are way off base. You can’t play a game professional as an expert as a beginner and this has nothing to do with esport material.

That’s ridiculous. Its all about skill and there’s a little luck involved.
What you’re asking is for the thief to get nerfed down even more with CD’s that also cost initiative on top of that. What the thief really needs is major buffs in other areas regarding cc and more weapons. And maybe a whole new complete redesign. It needs more diversity. You complain about a thief spamming the same attack but other classes can spam all their attacks continuously. The thief can’t do that. It runs out of initiative while other classes have CD’s on individual attacks so they can keep attacking while once a thief runs out if initiative it can’t do anything. Thief needs more diversity. The only reasonal build a thief has are just critical strikes and trickery. It has low health so it makes up for it with higher DPS and mobility. People complain about back stab but you have to time it perfectly. Its not like you just press one button and it works. You have to get into stealth and maneuver around the enemy in order to get it and with aoe and everything going on its not that easy. You have 3 seconds to get it unless you use a high CD utility to gain a longer stealth. Most people see a thief coming. With more nerfs thieves are going to be where the ele is. Nerfs need buffs to go along with it to compensate. I don’t think any thief likes where the class is right now being stuck using d/p with really only one viable build.
Let’s hope the new game modes and ladder come quicker than everyone is thinking. And when it comes to balance, no memo has ever achieved balance when it comes to wanting to have diversity in builds and such. I just don’t think its possible. I would love an esport scene as well.
Thieves changes are just ridiculous and not plausible……..YET again. Have you played a thief? Hell, has anyone that posts about balance changes on these forums played one? I sure as hell don’t think so. LOL. So wrong in so many ways. Play the class for a week before you guys think of trying to balance it. Ty. Your welcome.
