EoTM Server colors

I think they did it the way they have it now for more contrast. It’s easier to see red on green than green on green.

It would actually make more sense the other way. Green on green flows and is how it’s supposed to be. Then when Red takes over Green it’s easy to notice since the colors don’t go together. I mean, with your suggestion what happens when Green takes Green?

I’ve participated in taking the Red Keep many times already, it just depends, it really isn’t hard to kill the elites although I do agree it’s a bit stupid that one keep is harder to cap than the rest.

Although a rather lame theory, considering red teams generally are those in last place of their respective tiers, possible benefit of the doubt perhaps?

I don’t know how hard Blue Keep is to cap and probably won’t for a while, T1 is stagnant in terms of colors, it’ll be a while before I can experience that.

Green Keep isn’t hard to cap either, but truthfully I haven’t really been on any OF maps in which the green team really defended their keep yet, which is kind of weird.

Out of all the Keeps, Red Keep is the most stunning in terms of environment, think they did a good job with that one.

Really? In almost every one I’ve been in we’ve been defending our keep and losing it lol. >.< Must be getting really unlucky.

That and the fact of their ai auto turrets. Its extremely difficult to overcome red compared to the other 2 keeps. With their ai auto turrets, if you’re an up level you’re facing almost one hit killers with nobody manning them so they are constantly firing at you.

Today I found an EOTM portal on a map where I was exploring, Just out if curiosity I entered it and… Next I found myself in a PvP environment where teams battle each other? Comon people, keep it seperated! The world map is for PvE play only.

Lmao. Can’t tell if you’re making a joke or not. It is seperate, that’s why there’s a portal to it and it says “Edge of the Mists” on it and you have to press a button to enter it. Like really? Please tell me you’re joking.

They also spawn all over the PvE map. You have to defeat the mob of aether blades in order to open the portal to the mists which will give you the achievement of entering an unstable portal of the mists.

This is how it always plays out. Get ready.

PvE people get almost everything when it comes to content updates. Then PvP people complain that they don’t have any content there. So then devs give them some love and give them some achievement points to work for. Then PvE people get mad and say its not fair cause they are being forced over to PvP to get those achievement points. Then PvE gets some more love with content and achievement points. Then WvW gets mad because they didn’t get any love. Then the devs give them some love with a new map and some achievement points and a small taste of the LS. Then PvE gets mad again cause they are somehow again forced into WvW to get those achievement points and part of the LS when they thought it was all for them, and them alone even though they just have to run to the bottom of the map and click “F” to grab some parts to the puzzle. And the list goes on and on with PvE radicals being extremely selfish not understanding that they get almost every bit of content for themselves and that PvP and WvW people are forced to go into PvE content for almost everything in the game to have an equal success rate at it. Then the PvE people come back and say, “Oh no, we never said or meant that, we think you should get all that we have too”, not understanding that if the same content was in 3 different aspects of the game that not only would content take 3x as long to come out (and they would be mad about that as well) but the storyline wouldn’t make sense and break the immersion, and which one would get all the achievements? Then the PvE radicals will say that people who PvP and play WvW don’t care about achievements because that’s somehow PvE content and PvP people only care about killing each other but really, that’s not the case with 90% of the PvP and WvW population. Your welcome.

Honestly, veteran trolls that regen so the fight last longer?

Did you realize they were using the new Warrior heal skill, Defiant Stance?

If you kept damaging them while they were channeling it, instead of cutting DPS, you were the one doing the healing.

Haha I didn’t even realize they were using that. Thanks for the info! That’s actually pretty cool, a way to give ai a little boost from being trash mobs and makes it so that you have to use tactic in order to get them down faster. I’m loving everything about this update lol. Only suggestion is to integrate a closer wp but I’m not sure if that would be viable.

I love that one is snow, sand, and greenery. I could go on and on about everything I love about this new map but it would be an extremely long post. Thank you Anet!

Dont see the problem since you can atm make 6 rank 5 toon pretty quickly. Now after WvW ranks combine then it will be a problem for the lazy.

Also the amount of gold you waste depending on your luck equals that the amount of a legendary so you can just buy it probably for alot more cheaper than making it.

Can you point out where the devs have said they are going to add all the ranks together, and not just use the highest rank like they did for fractals?

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/world-xp-and-you/

You might want to read it again. They aren’t adding ranks together. They are adding the points together. Thus, you would be better off just using your main level 80 with good gear and masteries to get rank points easier. Yw

With all of this in mind, the system is receiving the following changes:
All earned World XP on an account will be put into a single pool.
The sum of those points will determine the world rank and World Ability Points available to each character on the account.
World Ability Points can be allocated differently on each character; you are not creating a single, account-based, version of your characters.

> All earned World XP on an account will be put into a single pool.

I highlighted it for you. No need to thank me.

Lol. Please read it and understand it again, the part you yourself bolded for some apparent reason. “All World XP will be brought into one single pool”. Exactly. XP. Not ranks. Those little numbers that add up to rank you up is what’s going to be pooled together. Not the actual rank numbers. So like what was suggested earlier “just creating alts and leveling them up to 5 real quick so that your ranks get put together into one”. That does not work.

You guys make me laugh. Try enjoying content for once, it can be fun that way. Lol
EDIT: although I do agree on the wp’s. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of the pathways but atm it takes forever to get from one place to another and then some random group mobs you and you have to do it all over again. But that’s the only complaint I have atm because it is a long kitten walk back.

RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cush.4063

Cush.4063

To me it’s really the context.

If you look around, everyone is doing the same thing everyday.

Why do you have 10 characters?

5 races
2 genders per race
so 10 characters

Would have stopped at 8 since there are only 8 classes but wanted to have a full set.
None of my characters are mules.

Exactly. I have 8 level80 with full map completion and personal story done. And a total of 13 level80.

If this game actually have an endgame to play, people won’t have that many level80. Since this game have no endgame, people end up doing AC or COF or fractal everyday which is the same thing they did 1 year ago.

The guy above your post said it “And add in the fact that raids and battlegrounds offer an actual, FUN gearing process and compare it to the tedious crafting grind here. Guess who wins?”

This game is in fact very casual. But when you try to play it hardcore you wind up doing the same thing everyday. “same daily, same dungeon, same farming”.

Agree on your last point.

GW2 endgame however from what i seen is do what you want type of end game where the ultimate goal is to have fun which is different from previous MMORPGs. This is causing many of the issues since most people are coming from games where the goal is set in place long before they even started playing. Creating their own goals rather than goals placed for them.

I don’t even know what goals you are talking about. There are nothing to do.

There are no content casual players can’t do. If I already can do every content as a casual players, why would I want to play hardcore.

There is PLENTY to do that casuals can’t. High level fractals, sPvP, roaming WvW, Teq, the wurm, etc. That is all more geared towards the hardcore crowd that the casual crowd either can’t do or doesn’t have the time for it. I have no iidea how you think there is nothing to do. And I only listed a couple things geared towards the hardcore crowd. There’s also dungeons such as Arah and others without speed running, world completion, other world bosses, lower leveled fractals, achievements, WvW zerging, guild missions, jumping puzzles, living story, the new EotM map, and the list goes on. Hell you could even learn how to flip the TP, some people enjoy that stuff and I’ve started to learn myself, not to mention that Anet updates the game with new content and bosses pretty regularly. I understand there are some of these things that you might not particularly like but there’s plenty to choose from and I’m sure you’ll like several.

RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cush.4063

Just because some games have even worse designers doesn’t make the rng and grind in gw2 acceptable…. It just means it’s not the worst contender. Also GW2 is aimed for a us/eu audience, the audiences who least enjoy long terrible grinds.

Name one MMORPG that has better RNG and grind?

Why should we have to? I don’t see anyone saying that the RNG and grind is comparatively bad, just that it’s objectively bad.

The fact that everyone else is worse is irrelevant, unless you care to explain how it’s not?

I think a better argument is that the amount of grind and RNG is no worse than the minimum required to keep people in the game.

By saying something is bad you have to have something to subjectively compare it to. Comparison in this case is not objective but subjective.

If everyone else is worse than this game is the best and if every other game is worse than why do people play them and not complain as much in the forms. There is a reason for this comparison that you failed to comprehend.

A subjective comparison can lead to an objective solution to the problem. Such as by bringing out why a game has better RNG and grind can determine what you subjectively want to see in a game.

The reason these forums are so much more active with complaints is because the devs in this game are the most communitive devs out of any other game out there. They ask for your suggestions. All the other game’s forums don’t have as much complaining because the devs don’t exist on the forums so the community is just posting on those forums to communicate with the other players and not the devs. Just saying.

Bump. Anyway I can get a little help on this please? Is anyone else having this problem. I’ll go in a little deeper. The first time I changed it to server time in my game, it worked fine, no problem. I did this to know that Marionette comes up every even hour. Then several days later I realized she wasn’t coming up every even hour for me anymore and it was every odd hour. I tried turning server time off, changed it to local time (when I did this, the local time didn’t change any different from server time), and tried putting it back on server time and nothing changed. Everyone said it was still every even hour server time. I minimized my game and my Personal Computer’s time was an hour off from my actual time, an hour earlier to be precise. Now everytime I start up Guild Wars 2, the server time is an hour off off, and my computer is the actual server time. Nutty, I know. Help would be awesome, thanks.

Ya, I’m sure they were successful cause it gave me the gold medallion on right side of screen saying success to both events with karma, gold, etc. But, for some weird way I came back 15 minutes later as it was contested again, but for some reason no event was going on with it being contested but the gates were able to be damaged this time so I was able to break through and get the POI. Really weird. So might as well close the thread as I was able to get the POI although I don’t think the problem is fully solved. I’ve looked it up and a lot of people say it’s bugged as well.

Having trouble achieving a POI, bugged?

Cush.4063

So the POI that is in “Plains of Ashford” between “Cadem Forest” and “Human’s Lament” inside the Ogre camp I simply cannot achieve. The area is gated, I’ve tried jumping the fence but when I do, it teleports me back outside. I read up that you have to start an event to get in. So I did the event at “Watchcrag Tower” and first defeated the Ogre’s morale by killing Ogre’s in the area, then the next part of the plan was to kill the Ogre’s scouts, so I did that. After that they talk about having to break the gates in at the Ogre camp, well……it just ends there. I’ve talked to every single NPC in the area and they all mention it. I’ve tried going up to the gates and nothing happens, can’t attack the gates because the NPC’s say they leave it up to me to do it but it doesnt start an event or anything. After about 5 minutes of looking it just started the whole event over again and it’s back to defeating the Ogre’s morale. I’m extremely confused and aggravated since this is the last thing I need on this map for completion and I’ve been spending a lot of time killing Ogre after Ogre after Ogre, lol. Some help would be appreciated if I’m doing something wrong, otherwise if it’s a bug…please fix it? And if it is a bug, if someone could confirm it, I would be grateful so that I don’t keep going at it. Thanks!

@Latinkuro.9420 -

Shared loot is nothing new.. shared banks, guild banks etc all provide shared loot access.. GW2 is nothing revolutionary there I’m afraid its just collated in different mechanics to how others do it, that’s just to make it look different and avoid the “its a copy”… I do like the ability to deposit collectables straight to shared bank though.. +1 ANET

GW2 has only just introduced an LFG system x-server that’s in no way comparable to other systems that have been around as long as the arc in my opinion.

Kill stealing – I will give you that if you mean stealing as in thief steels/ sigil procs. otherwise not sure what it is your getting at.

Dodge – sorry but DDO has had dodge and block mechanics in it right from original beta must be 9 yrs now, I believe Tera has it and so do others I would hazard a guess…. nothing new at all in GW2

Snip

Grind – Every MMO has a grind attached and GW2 is no different – Leveling is a grind to some, gathering resources, loot etc is a grind to others.. it all comes down to playstyle and preference. Tell me gathering all those silk scraps isn’t a grind for your ascended armours or salvaging all those blues, greens or ectos isn’t a grind for players to get some waste of time Magic Find %… getting your pre-cursors or crafting legendary.

snip

As for your smooth camera stuff.. GW2 (by the devs own admission) has a fail camera system.. jump puzzles area clear indicator of that.. so much camera collision, poor zoom capability and poor model scaling . a la Norn Guardians in jump puzzles.

UI.. simple yes but imo far to simple. When I want to take something from my inventory like a spikey fruit to throw in combat or down some food etc etc, all I got to do is stop , open inventory find it and double click it – but then I realise I cant cos.. I is dead!.. quickslots are there to be utilised but of course GW2 was planned for console junkies rather than PC’ers I guess.

GW2 is visually good I will give them that, but all that comes at a price and they have been in reactive mode since beta to try and reduce the demands both server side and our side to bring the game into playable performance.. culling, particle reduction etc and the ability to have all those nice things on screen with hundreds of players at the same time, like other games, it has found it to be a problem for many. Personally I don’t suffer too much in GW2 compared to say SWTOR but many others do on a regular basis.

Don’t get me wrong I think GW2 has some impressive points, had some good idea and still has potential, but it isn’t amy better than other games out there already, at least not in my opinion – we all have our opinions on what’s right wrong, liked not liked ya see.

Shakespeare’s plays…theyr’e nothing but words. That’s all they are. There isn’t a new word in any of it.

I think you missed the point here. It’s not one feature or one thing that makes this game better than other MMOs for some of us…it’s the specific combination of features.

Pretend you’re a friendly social casual for a second. In most games, someone can tag your guy before you do and kill steal your boss, so you have to wait five minutes for a respawn. I’m sure other games have done this in the past. And rewarding me loot and experience for participating in the fight even if I come in late….that’s just..well…rewarding. But how many games that do that also don’t allow node stealing. I remember being in Rift and knocking back people I’m fighting, so I could mine during a fight, before some idiot took my node.

And how many of those games that had no kill stealing and no node stealing also allowed everyone to rez everyone else without using a skill slot? I don’t remember many games that do that.

How many allow you to have combo fields with people not in your party or buff people not in your party? Not too many. How many don’t make you go to a quest giver to get a quest or a reward? Not too many.

And none of the games I’ve played had all or even most of these features.

What Anet had was a vision of cooperative PvE and they aimed every feature of the game, from no killing stealing to down leveling to separating PvE and PvP, all with this singular vision in mind of creating something that no other game has come close to creating.

You’re so busy looking at trees, you forgot to notice the forest.

God I hated kill stealing lol. I remember being in swtor when it first came out and there being hundreds of players in the beginner area having to kill the same boss. Think I tried for like an hour to get the first tag in on him before I gave up having to wait 5-10 min each time for him to spawn again before I gave up for the day. Or when blood elves first came out in WoW, same process. Makes me laugh at the memories. Great post btw. +1 love the analogy at the end

I agree with the OP. I miss GW2 staples when I go to other games now. When I all knew of was WoW systems, I could do other wow clones and still be happy. Now I’m spoiled

That being said… I miss the trinity. I love healing and tanking. GW2 has a different system of DPS and Utility. Its a duality instead of a trinity. It can be messy, hard to track and includes a lot of player skill and reaction timing. While I’m not necessarily complaining about that, they haven’t balanced the classes to be good at both damage and utility, opting to make the damage weapon specific and the utility class specific. So we are still not “bringing the player, not the class” when optimizing gains are based on one class having the utility we need or one class being able to deal more damage.

That being said, GW2 is a step in the right direction when so many other MMOs are still climbing up on the shoulders of others.

Just fix some “anti-human nature” measures to keep the market equitable would be nice. Adopting a bit more “choose your own adventure” appeal couldn’t hurt either… The living story, after having a few choice paths in the personal story, feels like a step in the wrong direction. There are plenty of ways to write good story that brings your choices back around to a similar place to rejoin the main storyline with everyone else.

That, and the ability to actually create your own story and surroundings in the world make for incredible endgame content.. Not much can top Improbable Island for that. http://www.improbableisland.com/home.php?

Omg, thank you for that link. Best story ever! Seriously, I’ve been sucked right in.

Not only is it lame from a gameplay perspective, but from a social perspective it doesn’t bring people together in a meaningful way (Read: Marionette), and it doesn’t lend itself to a believable world. It’s just lame. Let me be as blunt as possible with my feelings here: Fix it. Nerf it. Burn it. Better yet: make something better. Maybe Orr was supposed to be the intended “end game” farming zone? If so, then make some sweeping changes to Orr. The potential is there, but like I said, as of now for whatever reason the zone is empty. I haven’t been playing the game long enough to comment on the subtle reasons why, but I know that the Queensdale champ train appears to be pure boring mode. Will I be penalized for not taking part in such activities?

I am wondering if maybe you are just not on the right server. The champ trains you really are not missing out on much if at all. Queensdale train I believe is more for leveling than money. Frostgorge train I know is used tons by some of my guild members who may only have 20 minutes to play and need a little extra cash. It definitely is not the best or fastest way to make money so you are not missing out there either.

I know I would be crushed if they took out Orr. This is where most of my favorite people hang out. We get full temple runs going at least 3 times a day and almost always have an overflow during reset runs. Usually after many runs someone else takes over and then does a world boss train or like today, we go and do a jump puzzle train for the monthly. People go crazy for this ’Temple Time* and although they may get a little feisty at times, for the most part everyone is laughing and having fun.

Yell at me in game some time and I will show you how fun the zone can be! I would love the chance to change your mind about the zone I love most of all.

I see where the OP is coming from though. When I had first got 80 I saw Orr as empty as well and I still do. From what I’ve heard, Orr got a massive nerf to farming so that’s why nobody goes there anymore. Now I know there are world bosses littered all over the map but:
1. It’s hard to know when those are going on.
2. It’s even more difficult to know which server is actually doing them or not
3. You really have to be in a really good/organized guild in order to know when and where and what server these events and other world boss events are going on.
I’ve gone through a lot of guilds until I finally found one that was organized, has 1500 members, thus does world boss events all the time. They really need to fix the farming in Orr and destroy it in QueensDale imo.

I think all in all it is a great concept but… needs to be refined.

Low rewards for low level difficulty will in fact increase the amount of discrimination in LFG dungeon groups.

difficulty is something people get used to… look in raids in WoW or inferno difficulty in Diablo. Initially only the best of the best can be able to do it. Now even average Joes are walking around with ease.

This Brings to the table that, after some time, no one will be willing to run lower difficulty levels.

Why do I want to run low difficulties and help newbies if I am getting lessor than I create a “LFG lvl 80s NO noobs no rangers” group?

At that point of time higher difficulty dungeon will essentially be “more time consuming” and “more focus needed” rather than being “more difficult” and it contains “guaranteed better loot”.

This really needs to be thought through as it may hinder the ability for new people to join dungeon groups

I would think that low level people would want to make groups with low level people. You don’t see that now cause its too difficult for them but if this were to be implemented I’d think you would see them making groups. I’m not saying it would, but I think it would.

I would not have a problem with rewards scaling if it gave rewards based on personal level and not the average level of the group.

So a player who is level 60 for AC can run with a group of level 80 players and not drag down the loot to level 76 gear. Which is too low for the level 80’s and too high for the level 60.

For sure the reward should be scaled to the individual player with respect to the difficulty. But I’m happy that you actually see the idea behind that. If I have the time, I’m pretty sure I could build a mathematical algorithm that specifies the difficulty assigned to the whole group and the reward scaled to the individual player. But that will not be for now :P

I completely understand and agree in a way from where he’s coming from with his point BUT, if you were to make it give better loot compared to the individual player and have difficulty based on the entire group then you would have level 80’s playing with lower levels to make it easier and get the best loot not caring about the difficulty. Loot needs to be scaled with the level of difficulty. I would agree on getting gear that scales with your level no matter what group you’re in but for the best rare items have RNG worse on easier difficulties and better on harder difficulties. If you get what I’m saying. So if you’re level 80 and you have a group of level 20’s with you the difficulty is less but you yourself still get lvl 80 items while the level 20’s get level 20 items but when it comes to exotics, rares, precursors, etc, the RNG is scaled on the difficulty rather than personal level.

This week I give constructive ideas.

I absolutely love your ideas. Every single one of them. +1. Now I see people disagreeing on the scaling for lower levels but let me say this, do you actually run through with your lower level alts or do you run through with an 80 and then right before boss is dead switch over to your salt to get the exp? I frown upon this because I feel as though its in a way, cheating. This would fix that so that you would actually be able to run through the dungeon with a possibility of winning and not have to just switch your low level at the end. You would actually be able to run through the whole dungeon as that low level. I understand why you all are disagreeing with the loot part but doesn’t that just make you strive to get to 80? The loot difference is there for a reason, and that reason is to prevent people from just running through with lower levels to beat it and get the high loot as well as IMO, to have people avoid switching to their salt at the end of the dungeon.

I play on Anvil Rock which is a Tier 6 server and LA is always active with people anytime of the day/night. Not to mention we are the most active sPvP server so Edge of the Mists always has people in it as well. And whenever I go into WvW we always have zergs going on, not the massive zergs that make incredible computers like my own lag like a slide show but where there is usually several commanders on and 20+ people on them. Don’t listen to the trolls man. They love the game but hate Anet. They will do anything they can to someway get back at Anet and try to destroy their own game by making players feel they are not welcome or they are coming to a horrible game when it is much the opposite. They look at the glass half empty, always. Forums for video games are just not the place to go to if you want to find out something like this because they are filled with haters because they are usually the only ones vocal in the community, thus this is where they vent. I would suggest going into the game yourself and checking it out and I would probably suggest a tier 4/5 server or maybe higher depending on how good your computer is able to handle large amounts of people as well as how you would like your WvW experience and PvE experience to be and which you prefer more. I personally enjoy medium sized zergs so I can roam as well as join in on a zerg which sometimes they do get extremely massive. Then I can always guest if I feel the need to complete world bosses and such. You can’t do that with WvW though. Good Luck!

+1 this really needs to be implemented where when the leader of the group leaves, someone else is appointed the leader.

You can trade gold for gems thus you don’t have to pay anything thus it isn’t pay to win. The conversion ratenisnt even bad compared to games like Never winter where it would take years to be able to make enough gold to transfer for enough astral diamonds to buy something simple. Its not pay to win when you can trade for gems. It really isn’t.

LOL. People really arguing saying this is elitism and ladadada. This is amazing imo. I have never really seen mmo’s come together like this and I think its awesome. The only people being toxic are the ones coming into this thread with nothing good to say. People guesting to other servers is not a bad thing. It only strengthens the guild wars community by bringing even more people together. I’m sure if it were possible to make one server with everyone in it then Anet and every other MMO would. But its not. So stop complaining and transfer/guest to another server and join the fun. I myself am a member of Anvil Rock which I joined for the PvP crowd but love guesting to other servers for PvE content to enjoy the large driven community and participate in these awesome events. Congratz Deso! Job well done!

Merge the overflows

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Cush.4063

Cush.4063

The situation right now:

  • Can’t do the marionette fight in the main map because it’s constantly full.
  • Can’t do the marionette in overflow because there are like 15 overflows with 5 people each.

Please come up with a way to merge overflows together (for instance via pop-up… “travel to higher populated overflow”) or always place people into the highest populated overflow when they enter a map.

I assume that overflows, right now, exist as long as a single player is still on the map. When you enter a map, you appear to be placed in a random overflow (I’ve been overflow-hopping a lot, hoping to get into one that even has a chance at the boss fight.)

100% agreed. This would be such an improvement. Just allow us when traveling to diff overflow for it to be highest populated till that one gets full and so on. So frustrating hopping to a diff overflow hoping for it to have more than the 10 people in the current one you’re in and being sent to one with 5 people instead.

#open world PvP and pretty much a lot of it

Dislikes:
#Loot is not that great, especially when roaming
#Roaming doesn’t contribute at all, should have a way to contribute more and get better loot
#Maps are boring and small, they should each have different themes, like one is more green, one is desert, and one is snow, and EB is a mix of all of them

That’s awesome. Its funny reading the posts on that thread saying it is impossible but yet you proved them wrong. That definitely requires a lot of patience as I’m having trouble getting world completion on my character and yes at level 80. Its just so time consuming. How long did it take you? I get that it was 140+ hours but how many days was that for you? Or months?

The reason for this change (at least I believe it to be) is that you can keep dodging to make clones while the others are exploding and throwing conditions on you. In other words, whenever someone is trying to get rid of clones in a fight they are just endlessly coming out and endlessly exploding on you. You really can’t get rid of them. I’m interested to see what change they are going to make that doesn’t ruin the shatter builds.
