I get what you guys are saying when you talk about the dragons being a force of nature but building an army and controlling scarlets mind to do certain things seems more rational and something a force of nature wouldn’t do so that doesn’t fit together imo. I dunno, can the dragons talk? I forget if they do or if I’m just thinking of the hobbit lol.

You be pretty hard pressed to reach 25 with only 5 seconds and even if you were attacking large number of mobs it be a risk vs reward situation. It would be pretty much the warrior trait forceful greatsword which is only a master trait plus we lack the rapid pace of 100b and it’s 6 second cooldown which is key for warriors stacking any respectable might stack.
Same with burning, you would have to be hitting them none stop to keep up the effect at only 1-2 seconds. That’s between 1 to 2 ticks so the condition would pretty much disappear the moment we stop. Way a see it fire is fire. No matter the form you should still feel some kind of after sting after being hit by a fire based attack. This would create that impression
You have to do combo field finishers or swap attunements to get might but you want might by simply auto attacking? Either I’m misunderstanding you or something like D/D air auto attack would get you 3 stacks of might every second getting you to 25 in under 10 seconds.
You are arguing against a class mechanic. Similar to hunter pets or guardian boons. Adapt or find another game as they will never spend the time to completely retool the class to make such a change, and honestly why should they?
You don’t like fighting against stealth classes? Too bad, I don’t like playing against fearspam necros or AE spewing engineers, them’s the breaks.
That is not a class mechanic relative to rangers pets and so on. That would be the initiative system or mesmers clones. Multiple classes have stealth.

Well are you a top sPvP player? Because otherwise you just contradicted yourself in your own post by giving a biased opinion on thieves while saying that the devs shouldn’t listen to the forum player base because they are biased. I’m not trying to be rude but thieves aren’t complex at all. They solely rely on stealth if you build for that with back stab or pistol whip if you build for that. That’s it. The initiative system is at the core of this problem. I don’t blame thieves for using the only thing they can use to get damage. This is why I think thieves just need a complete class rework. This is so that they don’t have to rely on stealth and one attack to do damage but have more diversity within their weapon set and have CD’s like everyone else. Obviously this wouldn’t work with the weapon skills thieves have now. I believe this would make thieves much more fun to play and play against. This is also coming from an unbiased view as I have more hours on my thief than any other class as I mained a thief but just grew tired of the same old stealth back stab or teleport pistol whip combo over and over again because that’s the only thing I could do to get damage. I believe stealth should be a mechanic that should only be needed for defense and not relied on for offense. When it comes to shadow step stomping I don’t see a problem with it. I used it all the time and its almost equivalent to stomping with mist form. You are blowing a long CD for a stomp and I don’t see a problem with that.
[AARM] does it every Sunday at reset on TC and then the Wurm after although I’m not 100% sure on the times now that Anet changed the spawn time.
- New revamped sPvP finished and introduced
- New Legendaries
- New class
- New race
- Thief class completely redesigned to not rely on stealth and initiative
- Stealth either revamped or made so that it is only minorly used for defense to escape instead of offensive
- New areas
- New weapons
- A fix for conditions being too strong and spam able in PvP
- Major balance patch/Make Eles viable for roaming and given a role in tPvP

I don’t have more hours than you but the only legendary weapon I really like is the incinerator. I wish they had a staff or some others that weren’t all rainbowy and such and I don’t like the great sword ones cause everyone has one. Hoping that by the time I’m ready for one with my Map completion (still working on it cause its not that fun for me) I’m hoping another set will he out to choose from.

I dunno, I guess personally I just haven’t seen that many of them compared to the great sword ones or the dreamer. I’ve probably seen a total of 4 of them my entire time playing compared to how many great swords I see swinging around with the trails they have or maybe they are just more noticeable. Anywho, I’m not saying there are more I’m just saying what I’ve seen. But ya, I like the incinerator or the shield the most but the shield is an offhand weapon that I don’t use so I would go with the incinerator unless they release new ones. (Hoping for this big patch that’s coming)
I understand why you would be upset about this but while wvw is permanent content this is the finale of the LS and is only up for 2 weeks so its understandable that when a fix was found it was pushed out asap.
The problem with thieves is that they have to stealth in order to do damage. I’ve said it many times but they need a class rework so they don’t have to rely on stealth to do damage. Its not their fault that in order for them to do damage they have to spam stealth. Nerfing stealth for them even more will be a huge nerf. They really need a complete rework. Btw the debuff is already 4 seconds. And I do agree on PU mesmers stealth. They don’t need it like thieves do. Stealth is broken the way it is now.
I think the armor customization is great. I only wish they would allow us to customize the colors of our weapons as well. It would truly give people that unique edge instead of seeing a thousand people running around with the same looking Twilight.
This change is just the first to come. The devs stated that the reason for this change is because it is the first step in doing whatever it is they are trying to do. So since we don’t know the “exact” reason this is happening I can’t really judge it. You can judge how it is changing the game until they put it the final step I suppose. I just wish we could get an idea on the main reason this is happening and what it is the first step of. They are doing a similar thing to sPvP. Their first step is removing glory. It is the only way they can implement the new system so they must remove it prior to putting it in. But at least there we have an idea on why they made the first step. But in this case I have no idea what the change of ferocity is the main purpose for because it definitely isn’t the fix for the zerker meta and they know that.
I made a thread about this recently as well. I think priority should go as follows: your combo field, party members field, everyone else’s field.
Pros:
- It gives you more control and that’s a good thing
- it keeps you from wasting a blast, leap, whirl, etc. finisher from being wasted on a useless combo field that you weren’t trying to use
Cons:
- It may take time away from other big things that are being developed
- Someone may lay down a field to do damage not thinking about the fact that they ruined their chance to blast a better field underneath their own but that goes hand in hand with learning how to play better and prioritize your attacks to use instead of spamming them
All in all the positives far outweigh the negatives and I hope to see this sometime in the near future.

My guild moved to TC early after release and it’s been my home ever since. I can’t speak of other servers but I have been extremely happy on TC. I will offer you this one warning about TC though…..there….are….ROLEPLAYERS!!! If they creep you out as much as they do me, then you should run, RUN!!
If not, then heck ya, come on over. Can even message me in game and I can suggest a few WvW guilds that sound like they would be a perfect fit for you.
Bahaha, yesterday I saw my first little group of roleplayers while doing map completion on Snowden Drifts. I literally thought they were NPC’s at first because they were in walk mode and there was 3 of them just walking around in the middle of the map. Then I accidentally highlighted them and saw they were actual players instead. I joined in on their walk and they stopped talking until I left so I left.
But anyways, I transferred to TC probably about a month and a half ago and I love it here. I moved from Anvil Rock because I just disliked how empty the world was. I originally chose Anvil Rock because it was supposedly the designated PvP server but I see just as many people if not more in TC’s HotM as Anvil Rocks. You will see almost everyone in the guild AARM though as you explore and the guild has over 1400 active members. If you want an invite to the guild let me know. They are always doing some event everyday.
So to answer your question, no. The first 1st part does not get applied twice when adding a second rune. You have 6 pieces of armor, thus you can have one rune on each which coincides with the number of listed bonuses on the rune. It also depends what rune you’re looking at, if you’re looking at a minor or major rune they don’t have 6 bonuses listed so you can only get the 2 or 4 that they list. Superior runes are the best ones and will get you all 6 bonuses. Each time you add on a rune of the same type it will give you the next bonus down the line. If you were to add say 2 Superior Rune of the Flame Legion and 2 Superior Rune of the Monk you would get bonuses #1 and #2 from each of those 2 runes. But note that you would not get bonus #3 or #4 because you aren’t stacking more of the same rune on your gear. Hope I helped, it can get a little confusing.

I 100% agree. It gets so annoying switching from staff to daggers while ooc playing an Ele especially since my inventory is always close to full and the daggers always go in different places. This goes with armor as well, I would keep my second set on me if I had a spot for it. it just takes up too much room and is definitely time consuming. I’d love an option for this with a trait template as well. +1

I haven’t read the the whole thread so I hope I’m not repeating this but these people make it easier for YOU to get those skins from the trading post. If they weren’t doing this those skins would be worth thousands of gold because the cost to get a full ticket by buying black lion keys outweighs the cost of just buying gold from gems by thousands. You should be thankful to say the least.
This game is a lot different than other games. Most games release new content in expansion packs which come out every 6months+ or so and they have to deal with bugs every time they release one as well but with this game content comes out every 2 weeks and that’s the reason why you experience new bugs every 2 weeks. If GW2 only released content once or twice a year you wouldn’t be having this happen. Its the price you take for getting new content continuously rather than in one big package not that often. Its hard work. I for one look forward to new content to play every 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoy it and so think the price is worth it.

Having said that, this still isn’t P2W. This is no different than any other game where you accumulate in game currency and use it to buy the items you want. It’s just a large gold sink created by anet. Nothing new here.

This latest patch is frustrating. I’ve tried it 3 times in Dragonbrand so far and we have failed all 3 times. We get Blue™ and Green™ down but Red™ ends up having anywhere from 85%-95% hp. We also don’t seem to have the manpower to do it this late in the evening (although this wasn’t an issue before this patch: most likely due to the 50 limit cap and/or the increase in the knight’s stats and/or decrease in our damage in some shape or form).
Typically blue and green get 50 people but red ends up with about 10. By the time both green and blue go down we end up with about 2-4 minutes left on the timer. Killing more than 1 knight won’t add anymore gear boxes. The knights need to be scaled way better for it be possible to get to Scarlet (I’m not even sure how the 6 minute achievement is possible now if you only have 2/3 knights at capacity from the get go).
People are still so entrenched in the B>G>R cycle that people are still waiting at blue or green to at “least” get the end loot since there is almost no chance at beating red: typical Dragonbrand mentality and/or low pop overflows. That is going to make getting to Scarlet way more difficult during non-peak hours… something that was almost never a problem. If nothing gets changed then we run the risk of having less and less people attempting this event which will in turn make it really tough to fight Scarlet.
You need to have them split up more. You don’t need 50 on each knight to beat it at all. I would tell people in map chat that more from each color needs to move to the color that needs more people and for them to call it out in chat so you know how many are leaving and such. It’s what I’ve been doing at least.

The knights are pretty easy to defeat. Still haven’t lost to them once and I have not joined TTS or some organized guild to do it. People will complain about anything to get a free lunch.
The ONLY thing I can see anyone complaining about is maybe killing the knights in under 6 min. That one does seem really unlikely to be accomplished and I can see a nerf to that coming. But that’s it.

Great fix! I like the event a lot more after this fix and it worked out great. Only issue is that once again I got booted right after killing all the knights and accepting my reward. Not that I have a beast of a computer and I had 50+ fps at the time. Luckily after spamming my party members join button I was able to get back in the area and get into the scarlet fight after someone else probably got booted since it was hard capped the first couple times I tried to join.

Just tried it and beat it easily first try. We split up and don’t even have the max amount of players on each knight. Around 30 on blue knight and they beat it faster than everyone else. It scales to the amount of players by the knight so don’t have anyone there that doesn’t have the buff because they will just make it harder for you. The event is a lot better this way. A lot more organized and you’re guaranteed loot if you complete the event rather than before.
Ya that server has a much smaller population than higher tier servers. I’d suggest transferring if you want to see more people while your exploring the world in places people aren’t always at like doing map completion. That’s why I moved to tarnished coast because there is always people popping up in maps that I would think nobody would go to while I’m doing map completion and its enjoyable to see people doing as I am.

Ya, def sucks as I keep having this happen to me as well. And it’s always all or nothing. You either get loot from all 3 or none of em.
Although this is a much better job than I’ve seen others do at trying to balance the thief it still doesn’t work imo. The main problem with thief and the problem that’s creating all of its other problems is initiative. You would have to take initiative away from the thief and recreate every weapon set for it to work. Just my 2cents.
I agree =\…I wish there were weapon skins and armor skins/sets that you got by doing something in particular when it comes to some top of the line skins and precursors and such. But let’s face it, we’ve had this discussion a hundred times before and we know everyone hates that in order to acquire a weapon or piece of armor or a precursor they have to buy it with gold. Nobody actually plays a certain area in the game in hope to get a certain drop. If only if only. I’ve heard it has something to do with the economy but who knows.

I was refering to the fact that the interrupt build i was using is not efficent vs a class that can stealth everytime he want, you know, interrupt build works on “controlling” your opponent.
By the way if you are a thief, pls gimme some advice, i’m just rank 34 in pvp.Sure, I will give you a clue or two! Stealth is not equal to "unlimited stunbreakers w/o CD”. Also “a class that can stealth everytime he want” exists only vs a bad opponent who lets him do it.

Lol I don’t agree. Nobody can stop a thief from steal thing all the time. You may be able to stop one or so but a d/p or d/d thief will keep going at it and you can’t really stop them (especially the d/p thief).

WOW! I have never played an mmo like this and I love it. I got into the living story late but I caught myself up over the past few updates and got into it. That ending was superb, it really was. I loved everything about it. The cinematic at the end was amazing as well, we really need more of these. One thing I miss from other games are the great cinematic scenes that come in every so often. They really liven up the story/ending of a scene. I’m super stoked for what is to come. And by god the loot was great. Thank you Anet! Give us more cinematics though! And keep the good loot up.
LOL. Of course that overflow that I just logged into……we just beat the whole event. The ending was amazing as well as the loot! I also was able to get all the loot from the knights by getting into a party. I made a bunch of gold off of one event as well as the nice new helm skin. Great job Anet although you do still have to fix the booting issues and knight loot issues if not in a party.
Alright, this is really getting on my nerves. First time, was about to kill last knight with plenty of time left and then randomly got booted, I relogged and got put into an overflow that lost to the knights event. That was a reeeaaallly crappy feeling. THEN, I miraculously got into main LA and 10min before event starts I get booted again! I just relogged and got put back into an OF. We better win this event =/. Anet, please fix this as well as the fact that I’m not getting any loot from the knights when I do enough damage to get a gold medal on the event and a color buff above my head.
They don’t even have spammable burst like a thief lol. If I were to approve this I would think their HP would need to be raised quite a bit
I just posted in another thread regarding this but the class could be so much better without an initiative system. It could still be a strong class with good burst. As long as there is an initiative system, like you said, there will always be that one attack that will be abused and there will always to the end of time be threads littering the forums about thieves. Of course the weapon skills and trait system would have to be reworked but the end result could result in a more fun class to play and play against. Stealth wouldn’t be a problem as well as spamming and solely relying on that one attack to win. I can’t repeat enough how boring it is to stealth backstab over and over again, or to teleport pistol whip over and over again is. The initiative system makes other skills on weapons besides the ones I mentioned absolutely useless. The evade attack on D/D #3 skill is never used. Why? Because why would you waste initiative on a skill that doesn’t give the results as CnD and Back stab? Any skill that would replace that attack would ever be used regardless unless it had a higher damage output than back stab or a higher damage output than CnD AND gave you stealth. I would settle for a complete rework of thief over a brand new class any day. Thief/rogue/assassin has always been the class that I mained in every game until this one when I finally gave up on it because of how repetitive it is all because of the initiative system. It’s simply broken and boring to play with.
Oh and I have no opinion on sky hammer.
Initiative is the source of the problem and anyone who denies this is fooling themselves. I say again, thieves need a class rework. I think removing the initiative system and giving thieves new different skills that still allow them to have that burst and mobility that makes them unique and powerful can still be achieved without ruining the class and actually making it a lot more fun to play and play against. The initiative system is the core to all their problems: stealth spam, back stab spam, pistol whip spam, heart seeker spam. Pistol whip and backstab high attack power would not be op if there wasn’t an initiative system. There will ALWAYS be constant complaints about thieves littering the forums as long as there is an initiative system or if they are nerfed into ashes. Please fix the class, personally as a person who mained a thief: I would go back to playing it as my main if there were no initiative system because with this system it makes the weapon sets rely on one attack while the other attacks are pointless to use for damage giving it no real diversity to play with any particular weapon set.
If you disagree, please reply in a respectful manner and I would love to debate about it, hell you may even change my mind if you bring up some really strong points but I just don’t see any other way at the moment. I know thieves would be afraid of such a drastic change to their class and a lot of people don’t like change because of the fear that their class would be ruined but think about, if done right, how great and better the class could be. Glad you’re enjoying the game. Tis a great game for sure. Although thief is fun because of the aspect of killing everything fast and being able to escape anything via stealth I would suggest trying an elementalist because stealth back stab repeat gets boring eventually. Trust me, I mained a thief for quite a while. Elementalist has 20 skills for each weapon and still has burst. But of course everyone is different. I love the a sura starting area as well, definitely my favorite. Roll a sylvari next as their starting area is beautiful, a sylvari elementalist that is :p. I’m biased hehe
It would be nice to see the difference between dead players and downed players because of events like teq where you want to rez the downed players but there are so many dead around you so you don’t know who to rez and the mini map just shows a bunch of black crossbones everywhere. Tea is just one example, there are plenty more.

Ignore all of what I documented above. They’re now all likely to be soulbound now upon selecting stats or even after upgrading to the next tier as with today’s patch they made all of the account bound spinal blades that were equipped or had upgrade components applied to them soulbound…I’m pretty peeved that they made this change without mentioning it.
Non-stat selected spinal blades are now:
- Account Bound
- Soulbound on Use
Instead of just Account Bound.Freakin’ Anet…I swear.
What do you mean? It was always soul bound from the beginning if you had equipped it on any version.
I do wish the game could be balanced around 1v1 but I just don’t see it possible with all the different variables. Games that have an amazing 1v1 system like dragon nest and c9 are amazing. I wish GW2 could have a dueling system like them. They are such awesome matches to watch/play.

It really comes down to whether someone can win the 1v1 or not. If they are great at it, push far. If they are not, don’t.
Yeah but even if they win they can’t hold it because their team just wiped at mid, who then send 2 people home to clear you out.
Holding far point for 30 seconds isn’t worth losing mid over, especially not considering how easy it becomes for the enemy team to shift points.
Why would their team wipe at mid? The player from home pulls to mid and it’s an even fight.
After its already been 3v4 for that long? Naw. Most of the time by the time home point gets to mid its been too long already and the HP pools of your team vs there’s is then the disadvantage since your team will now be playing more defensively rather than offensively and most likely have blown their CD’s already.
Lol for people defending far point. The point is that that person usually pushing far point doesn’t tell his team and so everyone thinks the default thing to do is home and mid. Its not the person going homes fault, its the far point assaulter who has a 50/50 chance of winning that fight compared to an almost 100% certainty to get home. We are talking about pugs here not organized teams. I always ask what the plan is prior to the match and usually nobody responds and some fool goes to far point and loses his fight while splitting the team 3 ways almost guarunteeing mid lost as well since they are outnumbered. Like I said this is pugs so the default idea for a pug is one home rest mid unless you actually talk to your team prior to the match in which it rarely happens to get everyone to respond especially the person who ddecides to go far because he thinks he’s that good.
I’m sorry but some of these changes are pretty insignificant. Ele’s base hp really has to be brought up to offer it more build diversity and then I might agree with you more on these changes. But the fact that D/D isn’t even viable in PvP at the moment because you have to for more vitality and toughness than damage thus your attacks are not that strong, thus you still get killed before you can kill them. There needs to be more sustain in general, you didn’t even give us the evade frames on Burning Speed. SO like I said, unless you give us higher base hp/toughness then these changes aren’t significant enough to help the Ele out. If you increase the base hp/toughness than this would be a lot more significant. +1 for the effort though.
LOL. I love the impersonation of Anet at the end. It actually goes with what I was thinking when I tried rolling a necro when I first got the game. I was so dissapointed that all the attacks were just circle symbols while everything else in the game got some kind of effect (although they do give an effect when they actually hit a target, just nothing big). But the fact that the staff turns into a scythe when you attack is pretty kitten cool ;P

Whenever I see someone post a thief op thread I just laugh as I see all the thieves coming in full blast saying its a l2p issue and thieves have this high skill ceiling somewhere. Either I’m an incredible gamer and don’t realize it or thief is just as easy as warrior to play and all you gotta do is stealth backstab, stealth backstab. Oh you can’t see me? Too bad, take 6k+ to the face, I’ll just vanish again. The only time you press a different button is when you get cc’d or you get low on health and you just sr and run away. I wish they would just redesign the class with CD’s and make it so it didn’t “solely” rely on stealth and backstabs, or pistol whip if you play s/p. I would go running back to my thief to play it again because it might actually be fun and not cheaply boring =\

I don’t see how you all can keep playing the class when its so repetitive. I mean I guess killing people quickly has a fun of its own but it could be so much better. I love bursty classes as well and would hope if they redesigned it it would keep that but the overall initiative and stealth reliance class mechanic really needs to be fixed.
