the map itself is really bad, you can’t see crap half of the time because of random walls, stairs, plants and what not…

the map favors heavily aoe spam due to small areas
i think map should have had one big open area and some plain pillars (that don’t cover entire view) around for LoS
DM may be new to gw2 but it is used in many games and the best maps for it so far (from own experience) were what i described above

And lets be fair here, no one else thinks it’s funny when people get upset they can’t 1v3 or 1v4 as well anymore? And another common one “well if it goes south, we’ll just leave”. Like… How do you guys not realize the things you say, then get upset when anyone calls you out for it or expresses their frustrations with thief… :/
Anyways. It’ll get fixed, they very well may be reworking stealth and I’m sure by time it is finalized it’ll all make sense so lets just wait and see.
None of that matters when you have 60k HP total and still hit for 6-8k DMG a hit from Range and can deal rapid backstab damage from any direction with you auto attack, not to mention an elite that can instantly wipe an entire team of players in seconds… I play my Necro when I want to win PvP matches easier. ;o Their Core mechanic is extremely powerful, which is why they shut out your utilities otherwise your Shroud would be too unstoppable.

you can’t do 6-7k dmg with 60k HP, to pull such numbers you either will have to go glass or condi/crit
thankfuly necro range is not that huge actually; DS auto attack can be blind, necro can be CCd, you can just wait out ds in stealth
lichform doesn’t wipe teams that know how to strafe, use blocks, reflects, blinds… or just focus necro for that matter lol
I find some other classes by far more powerful than necro atm lol.. but i agree, there are reasons why necros have restrictions
I typically don’t like sharing How2Play info as I rather everyone was awful free kill fodder because I’m lazy but~
I use Half Soldier on top of Necro’s already high HP pool + 18k Life Force (which is a 2nd health bar) that can be filled instantly with Locust Swarm and Dagger AA which is too fast for blind to care~ my DS and Dagger does in fact hit that hard in only Half Soldier and will kill people just as fast as my Thief does without the need to flank or Stealth. The trait that slows lifeforce degen lets you use it so much it me feel like it’s just a visible form of perma Stealth with range Backstabs. :P
Lichform is the god of all Elite Skills but you have to use it intelligently. Engage team battles from a distant and straight 0 their entire team dead in like 2-3 seconds by shooting from the right angle for pierce.
My Dagger range doesn’t matter too much since I can DS for 1200 and pew pew range backstabs to the face. If I lose all my lifeforce I can take it to full again before the CD is up with plenty of utility to speed that up and protect me like Spectral Armor/Walk.
The point is their playstyle is their own counter for very rational reasons. They would be too powerful otherwise. Thief on the other hand was completely designed from Stealth from the start to counter their horrible defense and HP and they would have to do a pretty major redesign to change that. They already made the trait changes and showed them to us so that isn’t going to happen. We’ll just get more Last Refuge incidences all over the place that will remain broken for 2+ years.
it all sounds good and all but won’t work vs decent team/players…. i am talking from pvp perspective however….

Nobody’s complaining about celestial here. Cleansing ire is also used on soldier and zerker builds…
If there is ANY nerf that needs to happen, then nerf it after the specializations come out. Nerfing Cleansing Ire right now will kitten many people off. If you want it nerfed so bad right now, then nerf Slick Shoes and D/D ele too. Both are just as “cancer” and easy to be honest.

You are a thief, I prefer not to enter into much discussion but….a thief is the last person on earth that can ask for nerfs on other professions, the entire PvP mode has been in terminal stage because of a single badly designed profession.
The first question people ask themselves when making a build is :“will it survive a stealth spammer hitting me for 6k dmg upward, out of nowhere?”.
So do pls forgive people if they add some sustain to their build, I guess they want to avoid to be insta gibbed by an invisible critter who stealth from a kittening mile away and can approach unnoticed

What did change? Amulets, spell mechanics, traits, runes/sigils~
What did stay constant since launch? Oh rrright, game mode! That is why bunkerish/bruiser classes with a lot of aoe and/or support are used in any meta.

now the interesting part: i used to run aether path daily, one of the best runs was with complete noobs that admitted they didn’t know that path and actually listened and did what i told them to… killed all bosses on 1 try~
the worst runs actually included players with10k+ AP….
i avoid those 5k+ AP runs like fire because i know those people probably suck and just want to get carried~

I am almost 30 and i actually like using TS when doing pvp, i hate typing out stuff … i never have time to do it nor read chat for that matter… voice chat in game wouldn’t bother me – can always turn it off.
I don’t mind conquest either, i think it is fun, what ruins it most of the time is full pug vs full premade which in most cases will never work. That being said your assumptions are wrong.
- i agree, soloq needs to be back
- ranked 1v1 would be bad idea as people will cry for 1v1 balance and 5v5 balance at the same time (see wow and blizzard struggle with balancing game around 3v3 while people cry about BGs and 2v2)… duels anywhere would be nice though~
- honestly i don’t think that voice chat is main reason why premades win:
1) premades usually have better comp (class/build wise) and not ramdom 4 thieves thrown together by matchmaking
2) in premades i was usually in, players were actually pretty good… and we actually did play w/o voice com and still won games
3) pinging actually exists in this game and kind of works as long as people pay attention to map; it would be nice though if it had some sounds like in league
i actually find the opposite most of the adults ive played with prefer to be on ts whereas the try hard kids while are on ts often dont use mics, probably cause their voices sound hilarious :P

2. How do you define uninformed and unexperienced player? How should game determine that?
Example 1: few weeks ago i got new accnt, for the game i am complete noob and i certanly had my share of fun farming newer pvp’ers. If your system was introduced i would probably have to do hundrets of HJ games before even being able to do ranked. Which probably would make life for HJ heroes even more miserable. At least in current system, i got tougher oppenents quite fast.
Example 2: some players are actually really good they just spent most of the time in wvw, how can game tell they would be good or bad addition to team?
3. Even if game did have a experience gate on ranked, the issue would be still there. You would just have top 10 players farming top 35% players. Nothing would change besides longer queues. I do think however, that there should be something like rank 10 or so requirements to do ranked. It won’t teach new players how to pvp but at least they saw maps enough to understand the basic idea.
4. What needs to happen:
- soloq separated from teamq again
- wins should matter and not how many games you farmed
- this game needs something like leagues
- generally if you win a lot, you should get better teammates and face tougher opponents

Meta really only matters when good team faces good team (see high ratings before farm boards, tourneys)…. Most of the time it is not the case – you usually have completely one sided matches and no meta in the world would help you there… Besides, i promise you, 99% of loses come from bad rotations and terrible team play and not “wrong” builds.
It happend to me quite few times that i forgot to switch weapons comming from dungeon runs and was stuck with d/d s/p whole match… still won games, still killed other players… was my build suboptimal? yes… have i done my job and won the match though? yes… so who cares? Let people play what they want and enjoy the game (isn’t it why we play a game on first place).
Don’t get me wrong, i am not against meta builds, they certanly help and players should probably run them if they want to win but they are not obligated.

Half of the changes proposed don’t even change mechanics but just indicator for better visibility of traits/skills. How is it over the top, please explain. You can see eles attunments, you can see revealed debuff on thieves, you can see warrior stances, but omg seeing engi kits would actually make them unplayable?
You make it sound like professions got destroyed, which of course never really happend. Underused traits got buffed, some over used stuff got a little nerf (MAYBE). Biggest nerf Warriors got f.e. was the Adrenaline change, and theyre still in the meta just fine. So nothing earthshattering really happend.
But you’re right, we shouldnt look at a vaccuum. But explain to me this then, if you believe the nerfs to other professions are the reason engineers prevail:
We have profession, A, B and C.
A and B are good, C sucks.

C remains relatively unchanged, A and B are nerfed so hard they are now worst than C.Why is your solution to the problem, if you believe this is what happend, “Nerf C”, rather than “buff A and B again”?

I’ve been playing high end pvp on a game which you probably tried yourself, WoW. I’ve been x2 rank1 and x4 gladiator. I want to make a big leap of faith and switch my self to gw2 pvp, so I have couple of questions if you don’t mind
1. How much, or does it at all, give me an advantage the fact that I was a high end pvp player on WoW?
2. I plaid Warr, Rogue, DK on WoW. Which class gameplay/style would be to these on gw2? Which classs has the most mobility for pvp?
3. What is the most broken thing in gw2 competitive pvp?
4. Are we toxic, team? Compare “toxicness” in wow community vs. gw, anyone?
5. Who wants to be my first friend in pvp and help a m8 get into gw pvp?)

1. as said above mechanical skills, awarness, teamwork etc. carry over; althrough this game is more about reaction than amount of keybinds you have (lol dat sap arena 1 2 3, blind arena 1 2 3)
2. there is warrior class in this game but current meta build is more of a tank (see prot/holy pally)… what is comparable to wow warrior atm is probably medi guard (see metabattle website for builds)
thief – rogue with less CC, more burst, more stealth and waaaaayyyy better moblity; i think you would enjoy it, i mained rogue in wow myself and i love thief gameplay
DK – i would say probably necro but you have to keep in mind, the pvp mode in this game is capture/hold points and not death match like in wow… necros have low mobility and are quite easy to keep CCd
3. nothing in gw2 is as broken as in wow, you don’t have stampede ignoring pvp res for months or wars one shotting enemies with 1 attack…. but as in any game there are builds that are better than other….
atm it would be probably engis, they have a lot of tools at their disposal on relative low CD and very good surival
4. gw2 community is fluffy and cute kittens (no offense, i love it) compared to communities from some other games i played (wow, lol and co.)
5. you can add me if you want, i have accnt on EU and NA… but i can only show you some thief ways :P
Generally, you have to keep in mind. Competitive pvp in this game (atm) is based around capture point (similar to AB BG i would say) and not death match.
Tactics that worked in wow arena don’t really work here. For example wow arena doesn’t have room for tank – you either bring 2 dps 1 healer, 3 dps etc. GW2 is different, currently people run few bruisers (for main team fights, defend points etc.) and 1-2 roamers (glass cannons with high moblity that are focused on decaping open points, gank enemies etc.).
Point is, some builds might look odd compared to wow arena but they are effective in gw2.
After playing wow for quite few years (mostly pvp as well, didn’t go above 2300 though) i think gw2 has great combat, decent balance (compared to wow), i find conquest actually more fun than death match, no gear and lv grind – you can make a character and go pvp right away.
The downside , this game doesn’t have big player base like wow, devs also messed up a lot at launch (no rewards, messy pvp/tourney system etc.) so many pvp’ers quit during first year. There might be some income of new/old players once xpac comes out but don’t expect huge community like wow has.
PvP in this game is also very team dependent (kind of like RBGs) so carrying alone can be pretty hard, best to queue with 4 other players, but already duo qing can make huge difference if you are good.
P.S. forgot to mention: there is no ddosing, titles selling, sniping (well unless people wanna stream snipe you for lulz) and carrying crap like in wow above 2200, because the real money and kitten crap comes from tourneys and anyone can join them.

the difference between ascended and exotic is minimal, it matters really only if you face someone of same skill and same class

i think issue with rangers and wvw is that wvw has a lot of open area and not enough LoS possibilities in some areas so double dodge becomes often the only solution … which is not really optimal if ranger is smart enough to use wolf, entangle etc.
personally i think what needs to be fixed is effective range on LB skills, that is about it

Well if the thief is patient and just keeps resetting till enemy gets bored and eventually makes a mistake, then yes thief can win any 1v1. They can reset against any class quite easily while no other class can reliably reset against them but this isn’t really all that important in the grand scheme of things other than wvw trolling.
