They have nothing in common with dragon minions.

As far as we have seen.

I find it highly unlikely that we have seen all kinds of Dragon Minions. In fact we have probably seen rather few of them all in all.

That doesn’t make it inconsistent.

Actually, since we now know that ArenaNet had at least two confirmed dragon minions as of EOTN (Destroyers and Sylvari), the question shouldn’t be why are the Sylvari different from other minions?

Rather, it should be why are other dragon minions so different from the Destroyers and the Sylvari?

On the Forgotten: There are only two instances that we know of in which a dragon minion gained/regained free will. One is Glint. The other is Twitchy the Chicken, when we recreated the Forgotten ritual. Before you mention Mawdrey, remember that it isn’t the same plant as the Mysterious Vine, only an ancestor (and before you mention the fact that minions can’t reproduce, remember that there are caveats to that rule).

All the theories that were created to try to debunk the Sylvari aren’t minions are based on “rules” created only by players. How can you argue against their “rules” when they say that the exceptions don’t contradict their “rules” but instead errors in the lore? It’s like a scientist holding on to a theory that has been thoroughly disproven, only far less significant.

By the way, Konig is right in saying that the vast majority of his arguments come from in-game knowledge (with the exception of lieutenants, which has no legs of its own to stand on). That includes the lore on dragon reproduction.

Which is very different from what I’m saying. I don’t disagree that he knows a lot of the lore. However, that doesn’t mean his arguments are right or even make sense.

I haven’t had much difficultly with it either and have gotten all my coat pieces. In fact, I’ve yet to see the Vine event fail. Just find a SW map near complete or at the event and contribute what you can. Most maps have someone explaining the unique mechanisms for each boss.

I’m not convinced that the tablet gave the Pale Tree free will either. I think it just guided how the Pale Tree used it’s free will. I suspect that the Pale Tree was purified as a seed somehow. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how Caladbog was used to purify Orr. Especially how it gave free will back to King Reza. There might be something about the Pale Tree that is directly hostile to dragon corruption. Could this be natural or a result of how they were freed from being minions? If Caladbog has this ability, why don’t all Sylvari born of the Pale Tree?

No offense meant but the above rebuttals could be summed up as “Sylvari/Pale Tree are not like other dragon minions”. Like you are going through every random note or statement looking for contradictions while missing the bigger picture.

I don’t think you understood my argument, so I’ll put it in the shortest means possible here – if you care for more, then there’s above. This is a simple logical 101 argument: “If A + B then C”. We have:

A. There are 7 similarities across destroyers, icebrood, branded, risen, and non-sylvari mordrem.
B. The sylvari do not share these similarities.

Therefore, logic follows that:
C. The sylvari are not dragon minions.

My point, here, is that the reveal that sylvari are dragon minions is illogical given our evidence. While appearance, intelligence, and the hive mind can be argued to be flimsy in both directions, that’s still 4 pieces of evidence that makes the outcome illogical.

It’s only illogical if you think that there are certain “rules” that must be followed. You are clearly saying that there are rules to minions and that the Sylvari don’t follow them. However, no such rules have been given by Anet.

Saying Sylvari are not like other minions is a perfectly reasonable statement. But saying that Sylvari are not like other minions, therefore they are not minions is not a logical statement at all.

I wish there was a way to trade in boxes for armor you already have the full set of or don’t want for boxes of armor sets that you do want. For example, I went and bought my last carapace glove to complete the collection and the next bandit chest gave me a carapace glove box. I feel like I just wasted 1000 bandit crests. ;(

People would farm the episode that provided armor boxes the fastest.

Which way would be the fastest?

At some point, you’re going to get all the pieces anyway, might as well make it as pleasant an experience as possible without outright handing them out for free.

If the seeds of the Sylvari were purified? by the Forgotten, it could be that the Sylvari were actually planned to be a weapon against the dragons (minus Mordy) during this cycle: an army that is mostly immune to dragon corruption. This is one way that they could still be considered “chosen ones.”

Where are all these evidence against the theory? As far as I have seen in all the threads there have been quite a few assumptions and such, but never any actual facts that prove one side or the other.

There was evidence that cast doubt on the theory. It required some stretches, but was worthdiscussing. That evidence also had a ton of holes in it that were frequently ignored by those who didn’t like the theory. It is not a surprise that some are so upset because they spent so much time convincing themselves that it couldn’t be, it’s hard to accept it now.

Personally, I don’t think it’s unfounded so much as it is that many people on this forum have a long history of pointing out that the evidence for it has been tenuous, myself included. Proponents of this theory, seemingly more than any other theory out there, had a habit of stating it as fact and even using it as evidence for other theories, and we spent so long arguing so hard that they shouldn’t get carried away we developed an antipathy to the theory itself, not for its own merits but due to the nature of its loudest proponents. That… seems to have been a mistake.

My two coppers, anyway.

Unfortunately, many who were against the theory outright bullied people at the mere mention of it. Whether people who wanted to discuss the theory had strong facts or not, a few people made it their duty to shut down any conversation about the topic. This continued even after their prized arguments that “proved” it had been debunked were demonstrated not to be strong enough to justify that conclusion. Nothing justified their behavior.

I’m glad that this is the outcome. It made sense from a story perspective. The high level of nitpicking that was required to even challenge it, further made me want it to happen. It’s a shame no one was allowed to discuss it constructively for so long.

The NPE did a lot more than gating weapon skills. It gated many aspects of the game. What the tutorial should have done was offer suggestions on what to do next and explain things rather than lock out things that Anet felt people couldn’t handle yet. Thus, it catered to one specific kind of player and left everyone else out in the cold.

Need an example? here’s one:

In lvl 15-25 charr area you may find a lumbering camp with a Heart NPC – nothing interesting at 1st glance. There’s a fair chance that when you are completing heart 5 events will pop up; warband is organizing itself to assault flame legion base NE from that position. If you are succesful you can notice a portal from that base to….Flame Legion Tombs where you have to solve some puzzles (put statue’s head into canoon to shoot attic to crush thick ice underneath and such). At the end of your way you will find grand chest with possibbly great rewards.

And it only began with a boring Heart NPC

Dude there’s a lot of things like this, just…find them

EDIT: get your servers TS on WvW, hear commander talking in real time.
Join community organized Triple Wurm, also best on ts.
You’ll see where’s all the fun

And I’m just the opposite. I didn’t like the way the personal stories used to be, where I’d do one and it would tell me to do something else and I wasn’t high enough level to get there. There was nothing more annoying that having to stop in the middle of a story arc in order to get a couple of levels.

Which means that the flow of the stories was off. The story was created in arcs and now you play those arcs in one sitting basically.

So whether it’s better or not is a matter of opinion. To me, this is much better. And it’s how I played them anyway, but I’d have to suffer through even crappier rewards if I waited until I was high enough level to do the entire arc.

In addition to improving the pacing for me, they improved the rewards as well.

Just because you like it doesn’t mean that it is the best or even better. Your way of playing is not the way we should all play. What you like isn’t what we should all like. In fact, we all know what you like, because you tell us in every thread about the NPE. As if that is the deciding factor.

The biggest issue with the NPE is that it took away choice. Before you could choose to wait until level 10 to start the personal story, if you wanted to. So your way of playing was not being infringed. If having choice means that you can’t play the way you want, then that is a case of it being more your problem. However, taking away choice so that you can’t play the away you want is the fault of the game. No matter how much your sole personal experience feels.

where are the new hairstyles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DaShi.1368

So… false advertising. ArenaNet, I strongly encourage you to change the wording of your little ad to ‘exclusive’, not new. This is literally false advertising.

There are old hairstyles and there are new ones. They’re new compared to the old one. New coke was new coke for it’s entire existence.

New doesn’t have to mean brand new. New York is definitely not new.

You’d lose a court battle for it, but it wouldn’t matter since Anet would give you a refund anyway if you asked for it.

But it’s not false advertising.

New Coke is a brand name. Are you saying that the last three hair styles were named New Hairstyles? I don’t see any evidence supporting this.

Anyway, I’ve found Anet to be pretty reasonable with refunds. And this looks like it was just a sloppy copy paste from when those hairstyles were new. But it is amusing to see how far the defenders will go on this one.

I’ve not been as happy as others with LS 2. In LS 1, I reserved judgement until the final chapter, which was heavily hyped. Based on what I’ve seen of LS 2, I have low expectations of its ending and any thing produced for LS 3.

DaShi.1368

So OP in answer to your question, it seems like a lot of people do want Season 3. Including me.

lol oh vayne, you and your white knighting. Thanks I can read. What I actually here is that people want another season if it includes actual expansion sized content. Whether that be having an expansion introduce the new season, or having the full team at Anet work on the living story since apparently a lot arn’t right now.

Many people however are jaded by the living story just because of the results its given. It hasn’t matched the large content promises its made for 2 years.

Maybe I wouldn’t have to “white knight” if people asked fair questions instead of leading ones. Did you even look at the title of your post. The assumption when you use the word “even” is that no one wants it.

Some people do want it. Using that kind of negative language makes you the opposite of a white knight and no better.

Everyone wants more content. I want more content too. But I don’t really see what they means people don’t want season three.

Try being more fair minded, instead of being on the attack. Because calling me a white knight means nothing if you’re going to be so negative. You’re just the other side of the same coin.

Dude, you’re in no place to criticize. You posted a poll that had an extremely small sample that you personally selected and claimed it made your point. Then when it was shared with more people and overwhelmingly went the other way, you claimed it was invalid. Try being more fair-minded, yourself. You blatantly reinterpreted other people’s posts in this occasion.

I want more content too. But if it is like LS 1 or 2, then it’ll just be another bore. Drop the story. Just give us content.

PBS needs to be changed to knockdown, not knockback.

It’s the odd ball out on the knockbacks because it has no drawbacks to using it other than hurting other players.

I’d support keeping the knockback but reducing its range to 300 or less, and cannot be increased by traits. It’s called Point Blank Shot. Let’s have it function like that.

No one cares about being knocked off a ledge by PBS in PvP. It happens to everyone and can be done by any profession. This is another strawman set up by rangers so that they can keep their troll skill.

The actual problem is when PBS is used to reduce the effectiveness of your own teammates. This has been said over and over again. You’ll notice that most of the complainers are complaining about the rangers on their side. No one cares about rangers on the opponents side. In fact, most of us would rather they all be on the opponents side.

Why the Ranger hate.

in Ranger

DaShi.1368

:sigh: Rangers will reach for any defense to justify their op troll skill. Now it’s “PvE monsters getting knocked back aren’t worth complaining about.” Is this more ranger trolling? These are the very problems that people are complaining about it. Just because you claim to not think they are problem doesn’t mean that they are not.

Also you’ll find that many of the complaints about rangers come from WvW knockbacks. Some people even believe that rangers are agents for the other side because they use their knockbacks to rescue so many opponents.

There’s a growing population that is getting tired of PBS. Keep ignoring the problem, but it will only get worse.

Frankly, this is the flimsiest excuse for not adjusting PBS yet. So it looks like we are finally getting to end of the retorts and now we can start doing something about this skill.

If people have been using PBS to get it nerfed, then they’ve been trying since release. The poor use of PBS is not a new phenomenon.

Also, PBS does have a very short cooldown for its range than other knockbacks. The other knockbacks that have such a short cooldown also have some sort of drawback that makes them less appealing to spam. Overcharge shot has a much closer range and knocks the user back. Rifle Butt needs to be on top of the opponent to work, which is no place a rifle warrior should be to begin with. In their case, it makes sense to get opponents out of melee range. Rangers hit PBS from range when it is completely unhelpful for anyone.

I’ll agree, PBS is the best skill in the game. Because it is way too strong of a skill with no drawbacks. What’s worse is that it is so rarely needed that it’s more of a troll skill than anything else.
