Retaliation is fine. It counters rapid damage attacks like rapid shot and flamethrower that shouldn’t just be fire and forget.
Though I could see reducing the damage and increasing the duration, but I’m not entirely sure what improvement this would bring.
Pros:
-easiest class to play
-great for beginners because it bypasses a lot of the more challenges requirements of combat in the game
-best choice for solo play
-best ranged class
-great mobility
-pets can carry you and are fun to have around
Cons:
-while easy, you can develop bad habits that will make other classes seem more difficult
-pets could use more management abilities to keep them out of trouble
-currently, the worst profession for any kind of team play (necro is a close second but doesn’t actively hurt teams like rangers can), so don’t expect to be welcome in groups
-Point Blank Shot makes it a troll profession whether it wants to be or not
Point Blank Shot is a big reason. It is badly designed skill too frequently used to troll and is inappropriate in a team fight in 90% of situations. So it’s no surprise that rangers have a bad reputation. It has too far a range, too short of a cool down, and knocks back too far. This combination is ridiculous for any class to have.
Next rangers are hated because they are generally ineffective in teams, PBS or not. They can be, but it takes a very narrow build to do it that cripples them in solo play. So most play tanky, selfish builds that keep them alive at the cost to the rest of the team. Too many times have I seen a ranger brag about how he was still alive when the rest of his team died. They don’t get that that’s actually a bad thing.
Buffing the longbow only made things worse because it enhanced all the problems above.
There’s too much heat on the celestial amulet. It is not as egregious as the forum (or maybe just a few people) seem to be portraying. But, I have not played Ranked in a while.
It’s the current flavor of the month for people to blame their losses on. If it is nerfed, they will complain about something else.
The truth is that it is only op against them. And the amusing part is that their posts about it being op are only encouraging more people to play it. So while the rest of us are unaffected, they are making the game harder for themselves.

What did you need to say back to them?
All I get is a loading screen that times out before I enter.
Ranger is easiest by far. There’s a reason it’s the most popular bot profession.
Seconded. Just send a bug report about it earlier today.
The Toxic Spore Backpiece. I bought a couple at their peak around 30g. They dropped fast. Then became available again during the last Four-winds festival. So they dropped even farther. It will be a long time until I can break even on that investment, if ever.
It’s a great skin. Everyone should have one.
As long as this skill remains as it is, I avoid having rangers in my group. If there was a server with no rangers on it, I would jump to it immediately. And I’m sure I would not be alone.
Rangers are fine, if they are on the other team.
2, 3) Are you willing to wait longer for a match if it greatly reduced the odds of this [premade vs pug] happening?
Hi Justin. I don’t think current solution of merging teamq and soloq is solving the problem of few people playing soloq and thus creating long wait times. There are a lot of great changing to pvp in this patch, but I don’t believe that merging soloq and teamq is a good idea at this time.
The biggest reasons people weren’t playing soloq before are among the following:
1. Skyhammer (OK, this was at least me )
2. Unbalanced profession matches (all necros vs all mesmers)
3. Unbalanced rank matching (high ranks matched with low ranks)
4. Leavers
5. Afkers
Any one of these is enough to keep a lot of people from playing soloq, because each creates unbalanced and unfun matches.
So it’s great that many of the changes made in the last patch deal (or will deal) with these issues:
1. Maps get voted on
2. Matching accounts for multiple instances of the same professions
3. Matching accounts for rank
4. Ready menu and dishonor
5. I’m not sure how this is being dealt with
Unfortunately, you also added a huge new reason to avoid soloq by merging it with teamq. I could understand considering this after doing everything else and still not getting people into soloq. But this change just creates more imbalance in matches that will drive people away. Thus, the main problem of unbalanced matches isn’t solved.
I think there is still one more chapter of the LS this year. Not sure how it will mesh with Wintersday. They will probably overlap since Wintersday is going to be the same as last year.
Basically, Faolain is the Earl of Lemongrab for GW2.
I’ve noticed that I’ve been drawing an absurd amount of aggro lately.
It first started getting weird in the Silverwastes, where I would just stand still and things from the other side of the valley were coming after me. Then I noticed that simply by running past mobs attacking a monster or monsters, one or more of them would pull off from the mob and go after me.
The latest was loading into a Rhendak event. He almost always attacks me when I participate in the event. However, this time I loaded past the pillar in front of his spawn chest and off to the side of the room. My intention was just to wp out and not participate in the event. However, despite a mob of players attacking him, my idle character, present for only a few seconds, became his primary focus.
Not sure why I’m drawing so much aggro from the enemies in this game. Maybe my characters should stop carrying raw steaks in their bags.
Nearest isn’t always nearest in my situation. Frequently, I find it targeting things far away, even when there is an enemy directly in front of me. I’ve found it very wonky.
I’ve been playing regularly since the 3 day head start. I get about 1 exotic every month or two and those exotics are never over 4 gold on the TP. After all my time of playing, I finally have over 1k gold. I tried farming but the drops aren’t any better for me than playing regularly. During the queens arena, I opened over 1,000 of those bags and only got tokens out them. I don’t think it’s possible for my account to receive a precursor or anything of value.
Once we get the egg, we will need to go to the Crystal Desert to get Krakaltorik to sit on it.
You could already just go to your home BL and used the crafting stations there to get to your bank
Banks in HotM will help reduce this so that WvW can have more room for players who actually want to be there for WvW. It’s not a huge problem, but this change will have this beneficial side-effect.
I agree that LB4 makes rangers a bit of a nuisance in open world PvE where knockbacks simply aren’t needed. This coupled with the fact that the longbow only has one skill for team support and it only cripples.
Let’s compare to the mesmer’s greatsword. Like the ranger longbow, it does better damage at range and has a knockback. However, the greatsword has three group support skills, and its knockback has such a short range and long cool down that it rarely becomes a problem for other players.
I think jonsonade has some good suggestions for fixing the skill. However, I also like the idea of servers that forbid certain classes. I know which one I’d be on. But that really wouldn’t be fair to ranger players in general.
Is this the new Ursan farming?
While this is not a terrible achievement, it was crazy how infrequently red came up. My longest count was 15 summoned facets between reds. Blue seemed to be the most common, but I didn’t distinguish between the blues and greens when counting.
What your longest run of non-red facets while trying to get this achievement?
No, the Karka become the playable race!
3 hours of waiting for the executioner and he never appears. I don’t know why Anet makes these achievements such an unpleasant experience. I have no desire to return to this map after this terrible time I’m having there. Really getting tired of this game.
What do you have to say to someone who blocked you and is still whispering to you?
Usually it’s after the patch. However, the patches have been getting closer to the resets.
Perhaps he is taunting people which is causing reports.
As for the ledge, it is really an exploit that allows a player to nearly afk through the matches. It is incredibly difficult for the ghosts to get up there. They need have a certain number of stacks of swiftness. Even the jumping is buggy for villagers, which implies that it was not intended. So players making reports about it makes sense. However, I doubt Anet will fix it with only a few days left. It will probably be fixed in next year’s event, like the added walls to Sanctum Sprint.
Rangers can do a lot. However, most people who play rangers just want to use their longbows.
I must never play against any of these builds because I’ve never had any of the problems described here.
I enjoy doing them too. However, the problem with increasing the rewards is that people can just park alts at the end of them.
Ari it takes like an hour to get to level 10. I’m not sure what your problem is.
It takes me longer than an hour, and I don’t appreciate that you assume that I have a problem because of it.
Just as long as there is some eye-eating, I’ll be happy.
What would be nice is if there was a blowout/clearance sale on the last weekend. 1 or 2 tickets each for 1/2/3 day(s) only.
Or a ‘sale’ weapons vendor that only gets the stock in when he finds it, constantly rotating discontinued stock (like how reward tracks rotate in and out).
Yes, would love this. It would give people who were saving up tickets to get some of these a chance before they are gone.
I’d reduce the duration of the game. When all the villagers are converted, the game ends at 4:40. If they villages aren’t all converted, they still need to survive for those additional 4 minutes. Seems like they should just end it 4:40 earlier. This will give the villagers a better chance, without really hurting gameplay.
It’s most likely a marketing decision. Look at what Mountain Dew did with their limited-time flavors. Some of them they bring back seasonally, but they were never intended to be for sale perpetually.
That’s just because society simply isn’t ready.
While I’m not surprised by Gail’s reaction to this, I think the forum’s response would be obvious. After its reaction to all the other NPE changes, it’s clear that this would never go over well and just add more fuel to the fire that is now burning brighter against the game. Given that, to ask for suggestions now seems a little disingenuous. Anet should have asked fro suggestions before implementing the system. They would have avoided angering their customers and come up with a better solution.
Unfortunately, the approach we are seeing here is one a company would take if they have no intention of making the changes players are suggesting. I do believe that this is probably an order from higher up at NCSoft, and Anet just has to deal with it also. Gail is simply doing her job and telling us what she’s been told to, while the execs hope that the rage will die down and GW2 won’t implode suddenly like so many games that got really greedy before it.
They should simply split outits into hat and custome.
So you can wear the hat in the hat slot slot without the rest of the outfit.
When they merged town clothes into outfits, they should have kept hat separated.
There were TONS of great and fun hat-costume combinations in GW1, and there’s even more we would have in GW2 if they completed the split between hats and outfits we have in GW2.
Love this idea. The devil horns work great with the witches outfit (actually they work great with everything).
I always assumed that a certain number of “When will it be released?” threads was part of the process.
It doesn’t really fix the issue with PBS. It is too spammable and hurts teams far more than it helps.
it may have 15sec cooldown and only a bad Ranger would Spam it.
it will only hurt teams from Poor use , and if you use the common Dam you ranger i can’t hit it now you pushed him back , is just greedy team play you’ll never be a good team if you think this way.
learning to work with a Good ranger is worth its weight in gold (interrptions ,stopping the channel of a large attack or stopping a team mate from getting hammered in the face.
IF Pbs is used correctly, you’ll be bowing down thanking the stars the ranger is on your team.
I would always prefer a block, blind, daze, or stun to PBS any day. PBS is why you don’t want a ranger on your team, never why you would want one. A ranger that thinks he’s helping his team with PBS is not a good ranger.
It’s a weak buff that will have little impact on mesmer play, but people will still freak out about it as if it’s an instant win button for mesmer.
It doesn’t really fix the issue with PBS. It is too spammable and hurts teams far more than it helps.
I’ve seen a total of 0 of them in over 2 years of play. I tried to farm them once, but soon gave up. Would be nice to have them drop a bit more frequently, but I admit that they are a low priority for me atm.
I like all these attempts to address this issue. As someone who feels like they are a low-end outlier, I certainly wouldn’t mind something that made my loot feel more rewarding.
thousands of perm hair has already flooded the market in the past 2 months. gg anet is this what u want?
It’s what I want. I have just under 800 gold and would spend it all to get the perm hair kit. Hopefully, the price will continue to go down as my gold supply goes up and I can buy it.
You know, all these ideas don’t matter much, simply because if they were implemented, three months from now someone would start a thread about how these rewards are not enough for the drag that is map completion and there should be more.
Not to mention what the player that has map completion on 10+ characters would say if all those additional rewards were not retroactive……(or what other players would post about it being “unfair” if they DID get all the additional rewards).
I think that they should get the rewards retroactively, and I only have one character that did map completion. They gave rewards retroactively for achievement points. Some people may be upset with it, but some people are always going to be upset no matter what they do.
Giving more XP for map completion, when you consider every vista, POI and heart gives you XP already would make map completion over-rewarding.
There are people who really don’t like map completing who would feel pressured to if you made the rewards so vast.
If you don’t like it, don’t do it. If you do like it do it. That’s pretty much the way the whole game is set up.
That’s why the rewards are set the way they’re set.
I don’t like mapping, but I do support giving better rewards for it and wouldn’t feel pressured to do it. In fact, better rewards might make me give mapping a second look. I’d feel like I’m actually doing it for a reason. Right now, I skip vistas, hearts, and skills points because “meh.”
Unfortunately, people like to use nomads in PvE, where they upscale a boss beyond what they bring to the fight.
I really don’t understand what the problem is. Sure, I lose battles. But I can’t say that I’ve found any build to be unbeatable. I’ve beaten tons of bunker engys and dd eles. Are they easy to beat? Most of them are not. But that doesn’t make them op. Actually, it’s a good sign for the game that they aren’t. If they are easy every time then either my build is op or their build is up.
All of them are brilliant! Great job!
