How are you counting it?
You won’t have to hunt for traits after the next update, so I suggest not buying any before then.
As for boring open world gameplay, you might want to try other methods of leveling such as WvW or PvP. Once you are level 80, all the gated content is gone.
Training of the Master
I hope Tempest allows us to tie weapons to attunements. You still swap attunements as usual, but you weapons swap with it. For example, a Tempest could tie their staff to fire, sword/focus to air, scepter/dagger to water, and dagger/dagger to earth.
What are you guys doing while waiting on Hot?

I’ll probably play Fallout 4.
I’ve also noticed that forums seem more hostile since HoT was announced.
The summer makes sense because it would be quite surprising for them to take much longer given how little is actually in the expansion. If they wait too long, without adding new content, people will start complaining that they waited so long for so little…eh…people will complain anyway.
This thread seems to demonstrate that power rangers may be the new turret engineers.

??? I’ve found lb/gs power ranger to be one of the easiest builds on spvp. Incredible ranged damage, lot’s of defense, and lots of cc. I can take down players in seconds from 1500+ range. It has everything a berserker build could want. It’s rather vulnerable to conditions though, but because of its range and evasive skills, condition heavy builds can still be outplayed.
Are you playing hot join
?
Nope.

No matter what it is people would be disappointed.
What’s the point of doing anything ever?
This is a perfect example of the communication issues. I can understand holding out on new features still in development, but things like this we should know about.
My only 2 wishes are 1. separate the 25%+ damage from Necromantic Corruption (ideally, put it on Flesh of the Master) so that I can still run my current MM build under the new specializations and 2. fix the minion AI so that they don’t stand around doing nothing during a fight.
Everything else I can deal with and have dealt with. I can even deal with the current minion AI.
I run a few builds that aren’t in the meta only because I know them well, enjoy them, and get equivalent success in soloq from them. If I’m playing with a coordinated team, then I’ll definitely run meta so that they best understand what I’m capable of, unless asked to run something specific. Also, if I’m playing a class that I’m less familiar with or want to explore another style of play, I’ll run meta. Finally, in some cases, ie mesmer, the meta build really is the best option atm.
MMs are going to be hurt by all the AoE that the new specializations are getting, especially against Reapers, who benefit from hitting multiple targets in melee.
Also, you will have to choose between Death Nova and Necrotic Corruption (which will be combined with Training of the Master ). Both are great traits, but it will be a tough decision. Do you want Death Nova so that you can benefit from your minions inevitable deaths + jagged horrors? Or do you want minions that can actually do decent damage when they attack and transfer conditions, yet do nothing when they inevitably die?
When moa’d you generally have 2 options: 1. run; 2. fight. It depends on the situation. You’d be surprised how many mesmers you can take down in moa form. You’re not as helpless as you think.
As others have mentioned, the skill has an obvious tell and can be blocked, blinded, and interrupted. Plus, it’s long cooldown makes it s a risky choice for mesmers. It’s not a great skill. It used to be played a lot less until Time Warp was nerfed. Now it probably sees equal play with mass invisibility. Once the chronomancer comes out, I think most mesmers will choose the elite well over it.
1. Temple
2. Forest
3. Khylo
4. Foefire
5. Spirit
6. Courtyard
7. Skyhammer
Both spirit and skyhammer are flawed in that their secondary mechanics are not shared by both sides in game modes where team play is frequently absent. They are both mandatory objectives which really can’t be ignored, but require good communication and planning to make the best use of or defense against.
However, the Orb is significantly better than the Skyhammer because it has a risk. The Orb slows the holder and puts a big target on its head. Its location also makes it easy for any player to engage without much sacrifice.
The Skyhammer has no risk to using. It’s location is safely tucked away and easily defended by certain classes. The winner of skyhammer is the best bunker, so it requires a coordinated team effort to displace them. One guy can hold up 2+ of the other team while not even standing on a point. A potential fix would be to place the controls smack in the middle of the map, like the orb. Someone can use it to wreak havoc, but they are much more vulnerable while doing so.

Might be worth posting in the bug forum.
FYI: Gaile has addressed this topic in another thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Rewarding-a-random-sample-is-in-poor-taste/first#post5039834
It seems that they’ve made their final decision.
I keep saying it? How many times have I said it? I said it once here. Just because I’ve been attacked several times for saying doesn’t mean that I keep saying it. I certainly haven’t been pushing it. Others have been saying it too. Why are you singling out me well after the point has been made and the discussion complete?
Not really sure what you’re trying to get at here. What I’m trying to get is, whether you want to have a discussion on the topic or just want to make accusations against me. Given that your last post is more about me than the topic, you can understand my concern.
(edited by DaShi.1368)
Do you believe that is the case?
Forum bug fix…..
People can only go by what you write.
What did I write that made you feel it was ok to publicly label me? If you’re looking for bullying, you needn’t look far.
They don’t usually respond quickly to these types of issues. However, for those of us that it’s important to, we shouldn’t let them forget it.
If you’re unsure of how someone is using a term, ask them.
We don’t know if they will include character slots in the HoT release. I hope they do. Having 64 slots is another issue. Maybe they will increase the number for the expansion. No idea. That’s a lot of slots, btw. Do you have 64 level 80s?
How do you know that it is truly random?
The results so far appears to be consistent with what the drops should be for an item with a low drop rate.
Are you sure that it’s not pseudo-random?
A truly random system would be fair. That’s why it is usually preferred.
Then GW2 loot system is fair, since it is truly random.
In a truly random system for something hard to obtain, many will get nothing, some will get once and a few will get more than once. Which is exactly what we see so far.
If you have proofs it is not truly random, please post them here.
How do you know that it is truly random?
So you have no interest in beta testing but you would have liked to have done it for any free goods. That’s the type of player they don’t want as beta testers, unfortunately there’s quite a few like that.
What type of player is that exactly?
Is it wrong that I want a chance at getting a reward that interests me? I tried to apply to the first beta several times, but the system never registered me. I didn’t even have a chance. After reading about the beta experience and what it would take to get into the next beta, I decided that I would rather wait until the game was released and play it then. I never complained that I wasn’t able to participate. However, I later learned that players in the beta were rewarded with something that I did want. This was unfair and cruel.
Why does my interest in receiving the heroic chest make me open to verbal abuse and harassment?
The amount of bullying on this forum is ridiculous.
A truly random system would be fair. That’s why it is usually preferred.
Hopefully, Anet will look into it. Either that or you’re a ranger super-amadeus.
I farmed SW for the beta portal from the first moment on for 7 days.
Every day for many hours. And didn’t get the portal.
shrugs
Moving on.
That’s unfortunate. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities for those who still want to do the beta and haven’t had the chance. This could be just one of many opportunities before release. Hopefully, we don’t miss out on any more rewards because we didn’t participate in these betas.
Ranger damage at range is a bit intense atm. However, SW tagging isn’t as problematic because none of the mobs in the events actually have drops.
~Snip~
I can only truly speak for myself. I have no problems with the beta access being RNG. I have no problems with me personally not receiving one. I dislike that the access to the item was gated behind one specific type of content.
I think the portals should have dropped from a wider variety of game locations/modes.
~Snip~No, and there’s an absolutely valid reason for it dropping only in DT and SW, the expansion is going to be very much if not exactly the same as DT and SW in the mechanics of how the maps work, therefore you want people that play those zones to be in the Beta testing the new content…that’s just common sense.
I would think that they would want as many people as they could to play the type of content in HoT regardless of whether they play in DT or SW. I really don’t believe that Anet intends to limit their playerbase to just players who enjoy DT and SW.
See all the threads on it. I’ve stated my opinion on the topic.
All the thread simply show that players like think they are ENTITLED to getting a portal drop. The ones who got are certainly not going to make a thread about it, only the losers who think they deserve it are making threads.
That is your opinion. Having read those threads, I respectfully disagree. If you wish to discuss it further, please post in one of those threads.
See all the threads on it. I’ve stated my opinion on the topic.
Why are you so reluctant to answer?
I’m not going to search all over the forum for your answer. If you cannot answer here, it’s because you have none to provide.
The issue is discussed in numerous other threads. I suggest you take it there.
It’s pretty clear OP is just another person who farmed a beta portal and didn’t get one and is now mad about it so they lash out at every other thing they can find.
I play every single day because I have more fun on this game than any other game. In fact this is the only game I’ve ever got to max level on, because I typically get bored. I think they’ve succeeded in making a fun game. It isn’t perfect but it’s fun.
The OP apparently has a bone to pick with Anet. He has started several threads all with the same theme. Going back 3 years and picking about interviews and quotes, and putting them back together with their interpretation as to how they have lied, and are basically dishonest.
The OP is just trying to stir upon dissent and nothing more.
I think people focus too much on the OP and not what he’s saying. If you disagree with it, please do so. But there is no reason to attack him over his opinions, no matter how much you disagree with him.
I see far too much bullying tolerated here concerning people with the “wrong” opinions.
See all the threads on it. I’ve stated my opinion on the topic.
Yeah, I felt like the price was too high for a single weapon skin (off-hand no less). Didn’t buy. It looks nice though, but I can certainly live without it.
Yup, it’s something to consider when there’s a sale.
Randomness is supposed to be fair. However, there is reason to suspect that things might not be truly random.
Yeah? What reason? You didn’t get one? That’s not a compelling argument.
I’m just making a point. I haven’t even attempted to get the portal stone. It has no interest to me other than the extra rewards beta players might get. Frankly, I find your accusations against me insulting. I suggest you get your facts right before your start attacking someone or just stop being so hostile in general.
As someone who has not participated in the beta drop, I lean toward this being the worst of the currently presented options. The only good thing about it is that most everyone can try to get the drop. This wasn’t possible in the previous beta, where many people weren’t able to successfully sign up for the newsletter. This good point, however, is outweighed by the fact that it forces players to play content they won’t enjoy for a non-guaranteed prize. They can spend a lot of time doing something unpleasant for no reward, which can leave them with a sour experience.
A more ideal solution would have been to make the drops be possible anywhere in any type of game play. The rarity of the drop can be adjusted accordingly. This way, players can play the game how they want while trying to get the reward. So even if they don’t get it, they can at least say they had fun trying.
Ranger are pretty strong and easy. In PvE, you can solo a lot of things because your pets will tank for you while you pew pew from range.
In PvP, ranger’s range is incredibly powerful, doing one of the strongest bursts from the farthest range. Reflects are few and far between, so you don’t need to worry much about them. If the enemy does get close, you can stealth, cripple, or knock them back. All of this on the same weapon. Plus, you have easy access to immobilize and 2 invulnerability skills. Troll ungent is one of the most powerful heals. Finally, you can add AoE immobilize or stability from your elite. All this from a single build and single weapon.
Don’t believe the people who tell you rangers are weak. They have a ton of options for survivability, while being able to unload immense amount of damage. The only concern you have to worry about is this getting nerfed, so be prepared to attack anyone who brings up the nerf topic to protect the OPness of your class. It’s your only real weakness.
I’ve only been playing PvP lately because PvE is just repetitive content with no rewards.
It’s still just rewarding people that were in the randomly sampled beta test.
It’s NOT a reward…
Yes it is. The intention and the contents are both irrelevant. Players who were invited to participate in the beta received a bonus item that players who were not picked for the beta did not receive, and that’s poor practice.
100% agree with this. It was a bad move on their part and a slap in the face to the rest of us.
Now that we know Beta Testers get extra rewards on top of getting to play the game early (which some of us don’t really care about), is it too late to try for the portal drop?
Randomness is supposed to be fair. However, there is reason to suspect that things might not be truly random.
I wonder if this is another event where people will get extra rewards while the rest are left in the dust. I certainly have no illusions that the selection is in any way fair or random anymore.
Probably.
100% agree that this is a slap in the face to players who couldn’t participate in the last beta.
Aww com’on.
It’s not as if this chest gives away tremendous stuff anyway….
It is to me.
