I generally prefer the option to play casually and either don’t have the time or patience to deal with having to form teams for every pvp game. During the week, I usually just run a few unranked matches to complete my daily and then sign off.
I agree that teamplay is great and should be encouraged (this is a different discussion from pre-mades).
I doubt that casual pvpers are the minority.
There should be reasonable options for people who just want some casual pvp.
Anet has pretty much said that they are smaller maps, but filled with more content.
Good luck to you Koviko! Please let us know how it turns out.
Well, yeah. The opinions of others have influenced my decision. They made me realize that the expansion is just a bit overpriced in terms of the content that’s actually going to be in it. I regret pre-paying for it. I may still buy it after release, but I feel stupid for pre-paying.
Ok. It does sound like refund will close your account. That would be permanent and you would lose everything on it. So, only do it after checking this out and if that’s what you want to do.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/27697743-Refunds
“Note: The refund process includes permanent closure of the Guild Wars 2 account. If you wish to continue to play Guild Wars 2, or if you desire to play in the future, you will need to purchase a new serial code and create a completely new account. Characters, names, items, and other features from the refunded account cannot be transferred to a new or different account. Not all serial code purchases will be eligible for a refund. No refunds will be given for any account that has been terminated for a breach of the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement.”
Ouch! That’s pretty harsh. I’m glad that I’m waiting.
If they announced only 1 map I would be glad I hadn’t pre-ordered before I heard how many maps they were making. I am expecting 3-5, with 5 being the point where I put my money down without feeling bad about it.
I recall them saying there would be 3. The wiki says that the Heart of Maguuma region will contain multiple open world maps.
I was disappointed when they first announced what would be in the expansion. I was hoping after a living story that felt padded and short shrifted, they were devoting their time to a massive, epic expansion. Now it appears to be living story part 3 with some nice but generally restrained additional components.
I guess a more interesting scenario for me would be: what would you do if the expansion had you defeat Mordremoth?
If this was the culmination of an epic journey to get to him, then I would feel much better about this expansion.
But we know the name of at least two maps, so it’s not. lol
I believe he was presenting a hypothetical situation.
There’s legal action as well, but I don’t think Anet has done anything illegal here.
There has been far more attacking of people who like the game by people who don’t lately, than the other way around. Thanks for the laugh.
Evidence, because from my perspective it has been heavily the other way around.
Engineer or thief cos thief kills everything
Until the update. Engies will then be a counter to thieves (at least stealth-based thieves).
It’s very likely ncsoft ordered them to do this.
I think the Gem Store bulk buying only and the HoT pre-purchase brought the most outrage. The others were minor compared to those two.
Nice post! The new specialization changes make me excited to play my mesmer in PvE again.
I don’t recommend pre-purchasing either of them.
Seriously, can someone investigate? I can’t believe how many matches I get where the enemy has at least 2 warriors and my team is just squishy.
PvP is becoming unplayable for me because of how bad the match ups have been. They’ve been insanely imbalanced in nearly every single match I’ve been in over the past week.
Just followed that one with 3 mesmers against a balanced team. There’s no semblance of matchmaking.
Wow. It really is becoming every match. At least 2 warriors on the other team, while my team is full of zerkers who are just their for the enemy to rally off of.
I wouldn’t mind so much if I didn’t have to wait twice the average wait time for each game.
Definitely not prepurchasing. I just hope our voice is heard and the price goes down by launch for people who already have the base game, or we get some little bonus for having the base game already.
It could be that they offer different deals in the future. This month might be free core game (to target new players), next month might be extra character slots or something (for vets). Frankly, I don’t see any reason to pre-purchase right now. Even if you think the price is fair, you’re safe to wait until the beta weekend.
With the way the game industry functions these days, only a fool would pre-order anything unseen and untested. Contrary to claims that I am “punishing myself” for refusing to stump up the cash for something unseen and untested, I would say I’m being an astute consumer… Wouldn’t you?
The very notion of pre-ordering anything in an age of digital distribution is laughable.
Absolutely love Mr. Biscuit’s take on pre-ordering. As some comments explain further, consumers can benefit from avoiding pre-orders. One of them pointed out how the number of pre-orders dictate release date(you’ll notice Anet never posted a release day) because high pre-orders means they can ship an incomplete product instead of refining it further.
Great vid! Thank you for sharing. :b:
Fair enough. I edited it out. Will you remove your post to emphasize your own point?
I’m simply going to wait for a better deal or move on. It has nothing to do with boycotting.
Right now a lot of people are unhappy with the way Anet announced the expansion. Even if you disagree with their opinions, they have the right to share them. Just as you have the right to express how excited, happy, or pleased you are with the announcement. But there’s no need to criticize people just because they are unhappy with the game.
One thing I can say about the people unhappy is that they are focused on the issue at hand. However, many of those who don’t have the same complaints seem to be more interested in attacking these people who feel hurt by Anet’s decision. This is not civil behavior. This is where the hostility on these forums come from. So for those types of posters, I have some simple advice:
Please keep your discussion to the topic of the game and not the posters. Or just ignore the complaints, because they have nothing to do with you.
Thank you.

All I see are people complainig about not getting gems or chracter slits for buying the expansion. You already do not have to pay a subscription fee. I have never seen a community of players whine about not getting free stuff added to a game so much. Maybe it is the non subscription that has created this mentality but arenanet does not owe you guys anything but a game that you have bought to play. Thats it period.
Just ignore it if it bothers you. They have a right to express their opinions about the game. There’s no need for you to criticize the players. If you feel that price for HoT is fair, fine, or great, then feel free to discuss it. But please keep your discussion to the topic of the game and not the posters.

$50 for the expansion is expected. Dunno what all the fuss is about.
It’s not JUST the $50… It’s $50 for the Expansion (without an additional character slot) and it includes the Core Game.
Thats the problem…. We already have the core game, we feel like we’re buying it twice and not getting anything to show for it.
Then your playing 50$ for the expansion and getting a free copy of a core game. Often you cant chose to not get a free thing in a bundle to drop the prices with out destroy the ideal of the bundle in the first places.
At this point most ppl who are complaining about this is more complaining that they are getting something for free.
Actually, they are not getting it for free. They will link it to their current account and the “free” core game will not exist. New players will be getting the core game for free.
Hold up
What?
Is that confirmed? I have a boyfriend that wants the game, while I already have the base game. I was thinking of getting it so that he could have the vanilla game while I get the expansion, but if that’s the case they’ve killed off a potential new player before it could even start.
That reflects my understanding. I’ve seen no indication that you can separate the core from the expansion in this purchase.
Given what this company has already given us, and will give us in the future, this is a completely fair price. Way better than paying a monthly sub, that’s for sure.
I’d like to see Anet try a sub with this game.

What about people who got the game last week? They wasted their money and could have got the game for free… ?
Perhaps they can file a support ticket. Anet has been responsive to such things in the past. It’s no guarantee, but worth a try.

I am willing to pay $19.99 for an account upgrade that has the HoT content and includes a character slot. I am not interested in your products if you’re trying to scam me.
My thoughts exactly. Not buying at that pricepoint especially kitten off no character slot. LOL!
How is it a scam? Have you ever bought an expansion for an MMO before? News flash, they’re all $50+.
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward is $40. Shut up.
Guild Wars: Factions, $50, Guild Wars: Nightfall, $50. No. Look at EVERY expansion for World of Warcraft then come back.
Factions and Nightfall weren’t expansions. They were separate games that could be linked to each other and Prophesies.
Still expansions regardless. Do you need me to point out WoW again? Eye of the North was an expansion, $40 and came with no character slots.
Factions and Nightfall weren’t expansions.
And you keep repeating that ignoring the other examples.
I don’t care about the cherry picked examples. You’ve already demonstrated that you don’t want an honest discussion.
You don’t care about examples period it appears.
I’ve already seen the counter examples. You’ll need more to convince me, which is apparently very important to you.

Factions and Nightfall are not cherry picked. They are the most relevant examples possible because they are ANet games. That’s the kind of value ANet used to represent.
I don’t follow your conclusion based on what I said.

Good to know. I’ll just wait until it’s on sale. There’s plenty of other games on my list to play.

From what I hear, you can either treat it as a new account or as an upgrade.

People forget that we pay no sub fee and receive whole expansions worth of content for free on a regular basis.
What if I wasn’t will to pay for that content? They can’t give it to me claiming it is free and then charge me for it later.

John i dont think it is in your best interest to jest peoples at this particular point in time.
John may want his posts go through PR before they are posted.
lol, I just knew they were going to do something like this. I prepurchased GW2 based on the goodwill generated by GW1. I will not be prepurchasing HoT.
Everyone has the right to express their opinions.
PvP here isn’t fun when every match you have 2 thieves who don’t know how to play against a team with 2 warriors after waiting twice the average time to join.
(edited by DaShi.1368)
Seems interesting. I still miss the unique charm of the original skill.
Thanks ANET! Not only is my MM build still viable, it is a lot stronger.
People can continue to hate me for playing it.
Tough choices for Inspiration Master. WF and PP (looks like no CD
) are both really good, and RI is quite nice too.
80% of my matches are with rally bots. It’s incredible. I’d down 2-3 of the enemy, and each time they rally off my teammates.
Anet, I can’t carry 4 players. Please give me some decent matches.
I wish we had a specific forum for rangers for all these ranger focused threads.
I’d love to see the return of /breath
