Well, I found it (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/Burden-of-Choice-and-The-Anomalies), but there weren’t any answers then.

So, I’m asking again, now: does anybody know?

Can someone explain what the difference is (between choosing the Priory or the Consortium)?

It seems obvious that the Consortium can’t be trusted, but I don’t know what the ramifications of the choices are. The Wiki explains that there IS a choice, but doesn’t tell you what the two options mean.

Does anybody know?

I have no idea what's going on.

In short, you missed the whole LS2 story (and the movie describing ls1 story).

in all fairness that wouldnt do jack kitten towards explaining who trahearne is, why hes such a big shot Firstborn (have to play Sylvari story) who the flame legion is, why theyre the bad guys, and other such racial minutae. indeed, some of that does come from GW1, especially charr and human history

He FINISHED the main storyline. So, he already knows who Trahearne is.

I also feel Anet should not be affraid of asking the community what they want, like they’re doing right now with PVP.

The problem is that they only hear back from the most vocal of their customers, which is a tiny percentage. And the loudest are always at the extreme ends of the player spectrum.

The vast majority won’t do a survey unless it’s asked of them personally, which is difficult for a company with millions of customers.

The last one was “Burden of Choice”, and it definitely has something to do with LS S3.

Boy do I have a video for you then.
I’ve made video called “Guild Wars 2 – The Complete Season 1 Movie” and it’s 3hours and 20min. It has ALL the cutscenes, dailogues and Lore Narration from the start-to-finish of the storyline. I recommend you check it out before you continue playing S2 because S2 Continues from S1. =) enjoy!

THANK you!!! I’ve only watched the first 20 minutes, but it’s very good.

Oh, Dreamy, that is excellent! It really fills in some of the blanks in my memory (and, at my age, there’s quite a few of them).

Others: Highly recommended. HIGHLY.

3- a small proportion of all the zones in the game world are more challenging to some.

3 is HOT and is clearly the fairest option..

No, HoT is clearly number 2, or this whole discussion would be moot.

You’re assuming people see your question, which is a terrible assumption. I’m not always reading mapchat if I’m in voice with my guild for example. Or people are helping other people, or fighting and don’t have the time to answer that question. Doesn’t make them unhelpful.

At any rate, I see plenty of questions in map chat replied to. If someone else replies than I don’t have to, but I would if no one else replied.

I compared it to the same scenario in core Tyria.

I chat more in core Tyria than I do in HoT because I can hit 1 in core Tyria, and autoattack everything to death, without worrying about having to move.

I sure wouldn’t try that in most places in HoT. Yes, HOT makes you pay more attention to the game.

Core Tyria, you can type, do your taxes and eat lunch while playing. That’s definitely more engaging content.

that’s very interesting , you say one thing, but actually the meaning is quite the opposite, i.e your problem is that Tyria is easy enough that you have low engagement such that you can also do your tax, have lunch etc etc and you want the whole game to be like this. In other words you want the whole game to have a low engagement level, interesting requirement for a game is it not.

verb (used with object), engaged, engaging.
1.
to occupy the attention or efforts of (a person or persons):

I’m going to do something I don’t get to do often: defend Vayne. I think Vayne is actually saying the same thing you are. I suspect s/he is trying to refute my point, but failed, because I said the same thing both of you did.

My bottom line is that HoT an unfriendly place to play. And, that is partially caused by your and Vayne’s points: the difficulty of the mobs. (You can’t reply if you’re in combat.) But, the cause (harder combat) doesn’t help the effect (less help). It merely partially answers why.

Only people wearing all offensive gear get downed in one shot .
If you get one shotted you have too much offensive gear
If you don’t do enough condition damage you need more CD gear.
If a fight with a small mob takes too long you have too much defencive gear.
Mix and match for the win !

In some instances there are attacks that are one shots regardless of what gear you use. Mostly in dungeons and fractals and raids.

If you have some defense there is no one shot . Unless you are talking about the lazer floor in the artherblades hide out fractal . That’s not really a attacking foe I didn’t count that .

Like I said, the one shot attacks tend to be found in instanced content.

Such as ?
As far as I can tell they don’t exist .

Beginning of the Mai Trin fractal, although that might be a bug.

The mission in LS S2 in the Grove.

But, you’re right: at best they’re extremely rare.

I love the story. And, I like how the storyline missions interact with locations and events in the main world.

I’m working my way through all of the storyline missions, and I’m amazed at how they work together. But, if one doesn’t play several of them, one wouldn’t see it.

For instance, for Charr you have Blood, Iron, and Ash Legions you can choose. You still get Rytlock for a friend, but he speaks differently to you if you’re not Blood like him.

And, when you first choose an order, it’s not hard at all to imagine yourself as three characters, if you’ve seen all three missions.

So, I’m big into story. (I just wish there was an achievement for going through the missions, so I wouldn’t have to track it in a spreadsheet.)

It’s rarely offered at a discount (bulk or otherwise) because people are largely willing to spend 800 gems all the time.

I think that’s true overall (both pieces of your statement).

But, I’m not sure it fully applies to a volume discount. However, given how many volume discounts they offer on other things, that probably means they have indeed evaluated the idea, and found it wanting.

Second, there’s an attitude among HoT players that those who don’t know things (unique to HoT) simply need to learn how to play better. You can see this attitude plainly on these forums.

there’s is no such thing as a ‘hot’ player, there are only players. The facts speak for themselves, if you are unwilling to learn and adapt then you will not in fact not learn and adapt

Consider that It’s not actually other peoples attitude that is at fault here, they are over there happily grouping up with others or doing whatever they enjoy doing.

How does HoT discourage you from offering advice?

I suspect it’s twofold:

First, people are busier. They can’t answer a question without jeopardizing their own situation. I suspect this is the lion’s share of the reason.

Second, there’s an attitude among HoT players that those who don’t know things (unique to HoT) simply need to learn how to play better. You can see this attitude plainly on these forums.

The key question to ask is what will I be fighting. Zerk is undoubtedly the best against single creatures, because the Zerk buries the enemy before it buries you.

But, against mobs or elites and champions, time is no longer your friend.

I’ll never build another set of zerk armor, because I don’t like having to WP after rough situations. I don’t play PvP, WvW, or raids, so I don’t think I will ever need it again.

Daddicus.6128

Yeah, I bought one then. But, I’m talking about a volume discount, not a sale. I really don’t want to wait until the next sale, because I’m almost ready to start playing the next 15 characters.

I will stock up next sale, but why would they want me to wait?

Maybe they think I’ll buy some at full price (which I will and have done). This might be a better marketing process for them; I don’t know. But, it’s an idea.

By the way, same goes for storage expanders, character inventory slots, and bank slots. I wouldn’t be able to buy any of those with a volume discount (because I’m close to maxed in those), but others might do it.

It seems to me that it would be more profitable, in the long run. The question is whether a typical buyer will eventually buy that fifth copy (assuming a 20% discount). And, if so, is there an opportunity cost to delaying the fifth copy’s purchase that outweighs the loss of revenue overall?

For a guy like me (really strange, I think, wanting 15 more slots), they’ll lose money, because I’m going to buy them anyhow. But, I’m not typical; I have a mission I’m one that requires 15 (maybe 16) more slots. Will a typical buyer buy 4 more copies, eventually? I don’t know.

You should have read the article of HnRkLnXqZ.1870. He clearly stated how it works: Most people had this issue first with gliding (me too). If you press space and keep holding the space button you automatically open your glider – try it!

The awkward thing is the following: we are used old platformer games like Super Mario etc. whereas the longer you keep pressing the jump button the farther you jump. Not so in Guild Wars 2. Just press the space button and release it, don’t keep holding it and you will see the difference. Once you learned that, gliding works properly for you.

No, it doesn’t work like that. That may be how it’s SUPPOSED to work, but it’s a far cry from actually doing it that way. It’s grossly inconsistent on both ends. Short taps or long hold-downs BOTH exhibit ending up gliding and non-gliding. I can discern no pattern other than it gets it right no more than 2/3 of the time (with either choice).

I like the idea, but it would need to be simpler: they could weight the favored actions of those who pay higher.

This could be called pay to win, but not really. It’s more pay for what you play, so you get more of it.

The other thing is what do people pay FOR? This would be a lot harder to quantify. Plus, they’re probably already doing it (witness the extra account-wide slot growth).

Oh, right. Because the type of player who would enjoy HoT is also the type of player who spits on children and kicks puppies. No bias here! No sir!

As one of those horrible players who loves HoT and has spent countless hours helping others achieve various objectives, I resent your words. Just yesterday morning I spent 2-3 hours before work helping a new player get their elite spec unlocked and find mastery points. We ran through much of VB and some of AB as well, and I promised to help them with TD as well. And why not? It’s my favorite map anyway. And I made a new friend in the bargain!

Now please excuse me while I return to my usual activities of spitting on children and kicking puppies.

Whether you are helpful or not has no bearing on the argument. I said “the vast majority”, and that comes from actual experience. 9 times out of 10 if I ask a question, there is no reply. If a meta is going on, it’s 7-8 out of 10, but the extra ones will demand that I get off the map.

In core Tyria, it’s about 1-2 out of 10 tries. There’s just no comparison, really.

I think it’s the programmers frankly, a wicked sense of humour.

I don’t think it’s on purpose. The problem is the space key itself. I suspect that keyboards don’t properly follow the same rules for space as they do for the other keys. Mainly because there are two springs and two contacts (on each end) in most keyboards.

The glider activates when space is pressed down and the player is considered to be falling. Considered to be falling is going to be the inconsistency and quick consecutive jumps may trigger it. If you use a simple macro and limit it to pressing space once per second, you should never have a problem.

If you hold space during an action that causes you to fall, it’ll ignore your input. For example, if you take a tube and immediately hold space, nothing will happen. In that scenario, you need to release and press space after being ejected.

Macros that grant a game advantage are a violation of the terms of use.

And, they don’t solve the gross inconsistency problem.

No, the vast majority ignore you. Unless there’s a meta going on, in which case they’ll make you feel like you should leave so they can do their meta without you.

I can’t compare to raids or pvp, but HoT zones are populated with extremely unfriendly people, far more so than any other areas of Tyria.

You’re right, UNO. I’ve given up on seriously mapping HoT zones because they’re just too hard. I only do them on dailies now, and only daily event days if forced (due to some other thing that’s hard or impossible for me to get to).

I just have too many fun things to do with my time. HoT zones are nearly all garbage.

But, the new Living Story stuff shows that they learned their lessons. The mobs don’t respawn you to death, the events are do-able solo (unless they’re group events), and the maps are map-able. I just wish they would fix the mess in the original HoT zones to match.

The glider will only activate if you hold down space, or if you push space again while you’re starting to fall. Tap space to jump, and you won’t have automatic glider deployment.

This is totally false. Gliding is extremely inconsistent. Sometimes you hold it down and nothing happens, and other times you touch it to jump and you end up gliding.

I’m on a mission with a similar cause: first-hand playing through all of the storyline missions as the primary, all in one account. In my case, I’m also limiting myself to characters that are still existing on my account (so I can go back and read the specifics later).

Unfortunately, that’s going to require some serious cash to complete (as in dollars, not gold). I calculated that, with optimum choices where two or three missions branch, I’ll need 30 characters (the math for this is on the wiki).

I’m done with all but one of the missions level 30 and up. And, I am amazed at how many events and locations in Tyria are related to the storyline. For example, in the SW corner of Kessex Hills, there are sick people you have to help for the renown heart. Well, they’re sick because of an attack by Zhaitan that happens in one of the storylines.

Plus, the stories fit together. Many choices you make between missions have the other choice happen in the background. Unless I play through it as well, I’ll never know what happened.

I’m probably just weird, but I like your idea; ANet spent a LOT of time building this world, but most people miss most of it. I think it’s really interesting stuff.

The biggest reason was that while trying to get the mapping title (WvW), people kept killing me. Even if I wrote in chat “just mapping”, I was a target.

That made the whole experience very negative. And, WvW was supposed to be a hybrid of PvP and PvE. I couldn’t imagine how hard-nosed people in PvP would be, and I never wanted to find out, either.

I played enough PvP in GW1 to last a lifetime. And, even though I scored all of the points possible, it was never really fun. It was a chore.

Most importantly, though, I like cooperation, story, and immersion. I’m currently playing through all of the storyline missions (core). The amount of overlap between the races, orders, and characters is stunning. The stories are quite different, even though they’re storyline-limited.

Oh, I don’t know. This is probably something for another thread, but I like the dailies. Not exclusively. But, they give some structure to what I do.

Agreed. At worst, it replaced 3 of the 18. More likely, at some rate a black marble replaces a white one. I don’t think they’re fixed (in other words, I don’t think Wayfarer’s is always replaced by AB).

What bothers me is that you can have two HoT dailies on the same day. The way it is currently set up, that forces us to play in HoT for at least one.

Yes. What that means in practice is that tasks like Shiverpeaks Miner, Orr Vista Viewer or the various event zones occur almost as frequently as they would for a core-only account. At the other end of the spectrum, the boss metas — which used to pop a few times a month — might be seen every few months at best. It’s easier to conclude that some tasks have been removed the shorter the sample one looks at, but that’s a sampling error. There’s also a “feel” issue where a task that once popped 2-3 times a month — like a meta-boss — and now pops semi-annually or something like that is likely to feel all but gone.

Agreed.

I think what they should have done is give us something like 7-10 categories, and let us pick 4 of them (the first four we do). So, there might be a gathering, a vista/activity/mystic, zone events, zone events in HoT zones, bosses, adventures, JPs, etc. There would be one each day in each row, but we could only get rewards for the same number as now (3 = big reward plus 3 small rewards, and a 4th small reward if we’re ambitious that day. The others would just grey out once we’ve done the first four.

For flavor, they could auto-grey some number of rows each day, giving us only (say) 5 to pick from instead of all 7 (my list — I expect there are more).

Which means that any of the many GW2 players who did not adopt HoT at launch and try it later face not only those issues, but empty maps. The LFG/taxi work-around is not an intuitive means to maybe find the one working map. What kind of an impression does that make?

Imo the experiment to put harder content in open-world maps is a dismal failure. Expecting the average player to not only want to deal with the HoT mobs, but also to need to use a map-loading meta-system that means several maps fail while one map outnumbers the mobs to an easy win was always going to succumb to diminishing returns as the game population moved on to the next new thing. Design that requires one either be on the leading edge to succeed or be aware of/willing to use grouping systems that are not intuitive and often result in frustration and failure is design built for failure as content ages.

tbh most of these problems where what ppl faced the first month or two after the expac launched i agree that the various events or current event icon would benefit massively from the arrows that the hero points have ( you know the ^ and down that the icons had depending on your map location) which already exists and the map also brightens the lvl of the map your are on so you can understand where you are and which parts are on the same lvl so not sure what more would you like.

You are correct; the arrows are very helpful.

But, they’re not enough. I would like to know how to get there. Not when I’m exploring for the first time. But, once I’ve been through the area a couple times, I want to know how to get around. Without having to memorize it.

Show me colored tubes where passages above and below me are. Same colors as the arrows.

Or, put the stairs on the map for each area as it is mapped. Show them from wherever I am on the map, rather than requiring me to get close enough to see them. And, let me know if they themselves are on another level, for which I have to find an alternate means of access.

Or, let me hover over what I’m trying to get to, and have those green arrows from missions show up pointing the way. I mean, that’s the only way I could make my way through while doing the storyline. Expand that so I can do it after that.

There are probably dozens of other ways to fix this. They already know they screwed up royally. But knowing it and doing something about it are two different things. The arrows were a start, but they are (or should be) far from done.

Astralporing isn’t wrong. The HoT ones don’t remove any of the Core Tyria ones. They just add to the pool of possible dailies.

And there are 2 sets of possible dailies: one for those with HoT and one for those without HoT.

According to the wiki, today, if you own HoT, you get Auric Basin events and the other three from Core Tyria. I have verified this.

However, if you don’t own HoT, you get Wayfarer Foothills instead. I can’t verify this. Can someone without HoT verify?
