Guardians take much less damage, and have a lot more healing abilities. There health is not that big of an issue if they heal for 2x more and take much less damage.

This is why I asked for this instead of something similar to other classes.

Well, we do have the benefit of being the only class with condition immunity (outside of the engineer trait no one uses) and we are the only class whose invulnerability utility allows us to use all of our utilities (other than ranger’s Signet of Stone, which again no one really uses). Plus, the durations on these are really good and not on terrible cooldowns. I think Berserker Stance and Endure Pain are good like they are tbh, strong when used correctly but not mindless spam skills.

Condition Immunity? It doesn’t affect conditions already on you or if you have 10% Condition Duration… I would rather have something that helps me when I need it.

We now have plenty of options on how to go about this (Cleansing Ire, Warhorn, Shouts+Soldiers, Mending, Signet of Stamina, Lyssa). If that’s too much for you try sticking to your guardian.

In fact, currently warriors do very well against the condition spam kings (Necro and Engi) due to the new Berserker Stance and these classes marked lack of stability matches up so well with the shiny new mace buffs.

I suggest you not fight against a Necromancer or Engineer then, they can do that spammingly, Its usually way to late to use the stance when you really need it.

So basicly your saying its ok if the warrior has to rely on all his skills to clear something, when other classes skills actually do that for them.

The game meta does not support what you claim, its high paced action combat does not support that slow concept.

It is a great no-wonder that nobody uses our class for teams, when we have to use 4-5-7-8-9 to get the same effect as a guardian who uses 7.

What does Signet of Stamina do? It clears all conditions. That’s one skill. Boom. Done. We have something that NO OTHER CLASS HAS. We can for a duration become effectively immune to new conditions WHILE giving us adrenaline. This is already very powerful. You can deliver two nearly 4 second long stuns if you time it right. I just don’t get how you don’t see that these skills are in a really good place. There are other things that could use some adjusting and these two really aren’t one of them.

Lol! You take out a tiny piece of his argument, refute it, and then pretend you won. What about the rest of what he said? The fact that we DO have the ability to instantly cleanse all conditions. The fact that we are the only class to, on will, lower incoming condition duration by -100%? The fact that EP allows you to use all of your skills while invulnerable to damage, something only rangers have (to my knowledge). You say that guardians can do what warriors can do in one skill what it takes for warriors to do in 5 or 6 skills yet this is clearly just a horrible and unsupported hyperbole.

It doesn’t affect conditions already on you. You did the exact same thing to me, taking everything I said and taking that tiny bit and trying to turn it around.

As long as you completely redesign the thief class so its not suck after such things, give them boons like protection, up there health to 18k and increase there overall damage out of stealth, then I am fine with this change.

Why ever use S/P, P/P?

I’ve been playing with Chuuk’s build (the same link that OIIIIIO posted), and S/P does very well on PvP. Its not supposed to be your main, but it is very useful when there are enemies rezzing, or a bunch of necro pets / mesmer clones / thiefs guild. This is specially true if you are using signet of malice, which heals for a lot when using pistol whip.

Basically any time there’s a bunch of enemies together, S/P is the best tool for the job (unless you are a cond. thief and intend to spam death blossom, which works as well). Using shortbow and spamming 2 also works, but usually deals less damage, takes longer and doesnt gives you evade while you are it.

What can S/P do that D/P and Shortbow can’t?

Would be great if people asked for the Warriors aggressive factor (Doesn’t have to be damage, could be utility) to be buffed instead of buffing cheesy defensive mechanics :x

Personally I think Warrior is close to balanced right now, a few more pushes will make it just as broken as other classes.

So we can get a teleport that teleports us right out of danger? I really don’t want to get anything other classes have, I want the warrior to be completely different. Its own beast so to speak.

So you want to punish the enemy for wasting their attack on your stance more than losing their CD ? Okay, but only if you take damage if your attack is dodged (due to your incompetence) or blocked (due to your incompetence).

“How about changing Berserker’s Stance to something that immediately helps you and completely punishes your targets for continuing to spam and engage you?”

You do know that Berserker’s Stance isn’t meant to make you invincible to condi’s, right? If your enemy has any +condi duration then they are still doing damage applying conditions to you while you are in Berserker’s Stance. If you want complete immunity for conditions, then ask for Berserker’s Stance to do just that instead of asking to punish players for breaking through your defense.

Total immunity isn’t enough when your also being hit with power damage. Other classes have escapes, they avoid the damage immediately, they have teleports, mistform, get out of jail free cards, full heals and damage preventions.

Currently nothing currently punishes your opponent for spamming conditions on you, the current stance is bad, because your never going to know when your going to have 10 conditions put on you at one time, it doesn’t affect conditions on you. It only really helps you as soon as you engage the fight, or your lucky. However players can read the buffs, use it before the effect, or after.

How about changing Berserker’s Stance to something that immediately helps you and completely punishes your targets for continuing to spam and engage you?

Berserker Stance
Gain adrenaline for a short time. 100% of all condition damage you receive is prevented, 50% of that prevented damage heals you instead.
Duration: 8 s

Endure Pain
Gain adrenaline for a short time. 100% of all physical damage you receive is prevented, 25% of that prevented damage heals you instead.
Duration: 8 s

This means the enemy team has to actually stop and look at your buffs, or instead they have a chance to heal you for full by there incompetence.

Two-Handed weapons, especially Greatsword should be less interesting to use, because pretty much everyone and their mother runs around with Greatsword, leaving other weapons behind.

Maybe if the appearance of the other weapons werent so bland.

The fact that you can’t color shields for example destroys them.

How realistic is it to discuss weapons that have to be introduced the game first? For example the spear discussion; we have spears ingame. They are 2 handed underwater weapons.
How does that relate to a main hand weapon for ranger? If it were to be made a land weapon that would mean some serious design changes first. Point being; please keep this on topic. Discussing if more weapon types should be implemented would fit more in a different thread I think.

As for main hand weapons; we currently have the Sword, Axe, Dagger, Scepter, Pistol, Mace. Of that list I think only the Sword, Axe and Dagger suits the ranger.

Personally I think throwing daggers instead of throwing axes makes a lot more sense.
As does causing bleeding by throwing a lot of daggers at a person (current axe skill 2) and the axe would definately suit the ranger as a melee weapon.

As for the role of a third main handed weapon? More control and utility would be nice in the form of a blast finishing melee attack, boon denial for the old NR Tranq nostalgia and some type of movement to suit the weapon’s playstyle. What do you guys think?

Because the spear is one of the best weapons invented and was used for far more things then fishing. Someone with a spear could easilly destroy someone using 2 daggers. In fact a dagger would be a better underwater weapon then a spear would.

There isn’t much difference between heavy/light/medium armor at all, I feel like it should be changed so all classes can wear all armor if they desire, this would lead to a new level of customization.

Why not introduce a stat like movement speed and let everyone use all styles of armor, this would make the game more interesting when you un-restrict weapons as well. This could also be the new magic find stat.

Games these days are taking away all the limits, I believe it would be nice if players moved a little slower or faster depending on what kind of armor they used. (Granted, not that much, because the toughness difference in armor isn’t really that much, protection is like an entire set of armor.)

Can you reward an extra 1 Laurel Per Level 80 after your first one?

This would give players incentive to buy more character slots (more money for you!) Also it would give players incentive on making more alts and not feels like it punishes them for having lots of characters.

Of course they would get the same for the Monthly, this would just help people with a lot of alts gear up a little faster.

Nobody uses these types of skills, because of retaliation.

Why can’t retaliation punish every skill equally instead of just a few (and the few are the weaker spells already! There is NO reason to use these abilities…)

Just because you…

1. Don’t know how to identify boons on other characters
2. Don’t know the professions that are likely to have retaliation
3. Don’t know situations where it is risky to use your fast hitting skills
4. Don’t know that VERY few builds have high retaliation uptime and those that do require sacrificing trait, weapon, and other choices to do so.

Please don’t use hyperbole to lump everyone into your primitive view and skill-set.

The irony is that this is similar to the complaints people previously had about weakness. They change it and now it is more powerful than before.

Take a moment and think about if they make the “fairness” changes suggested….You may be able to spam your fast hitting ability without thinking anymore, but I guarantee you would be taking MORE total damage each match from retaliation.

I also guarantee you would be the first person on the forum whining about “retaliation is OP”…“it’s negating all my burst”…“thieves are not viable”…etc…etc.

How to put words in someone’s mouth.

1. Don’t assume I know how to play when you don’t.
2. I’ve been min/maxing for a very long time.
3. You never said I was wrong, just attacked me.
4. Rude comments can be taken elsewhere.

So people will finally be using fast hitting abilities instead of completely ignoring them like they do now… Good change! I like seeing other skills used because they are way to punishing and with no effect.

Shadow trap is completely abusive, and I’m pretty surprised there hasn’t been a thread about it yet, and I have no idea why people are defending its current iteration.

And Cruuk isn’t complaining that heartseeker is AoE, but rather that untargetted heartseekers hit kittening ANYTHING even REMOTELY nearby, which is frustrating for a player. The mechanics behind this end up creating situations wherein high value attacks (mace skull crack, backstab, pistolwhip stun, heartseeker, etc) all end up hitting spirits, pets, minions instead of the selected target, or heartseekers being used to leap hit targets completely out of the path of the attack.

That is a bad thing, if it hits more then one target when your trying to stealth into it, you could reveal yourself, killing yourself.

On the surface, it may seem “unfair”, but all it really takes is added skill to know when to properly use retaliation and, on the other side, when to use your fast hitting skills.

Certain abilities are “use at your own risk” if you spam them haphazardly in a zerg scenario. You should consider the risk/reward before using each ability.

There is no need to dumb down the game further just because it APPEARS unfair to someone who isn’t skilled enough to know when certain abilities are better to use than others.

You could apply this “unfair” logic to much more severe examples.

For instance…there are plenty of abilities that have long cooldowns and are totally wasted by a blind, dodge, evade, block, out-of-range, etc…Should we dumb things down because it’s “unfair” for one of these many things to put a 90 sec ability on cooldown.

I think some people would be better off playing FPS than MMOs if they are micro-criticizing things like this.

Well if it’s a percentage I suppose they could make it reflect condition damage as well, but I feel like the whole draw to conditions was supposed to be that it bypasses defenses.

Retaliation also deals damage as a condition, so they’d have make sure it’s not going to cause a load of bouncing damage back and forth when two people with retaliation fight.

Amir, % based wouldn’t really be a strong counter to burst. For example, if a bs thief were to hit 13k with their 3 hit combo, retal currently deals around 1k back. If it’s a percent, it’s still only be ~2k at 15%. A lot of nice bursts also involve a decently large number of hits anyway, and some use a lot.

Burst attacks are mostly one big hit.

Currently with thieves combo for example, it would only do like 500 retaliation damage because your not hitting them much, just really hard.

Meanwhile, with my Pistol Whip, I don’t do much damage, but I do 5000-6000 damage to myself.

I use flame jet on engineer, I do 10k damage to myself… and don’t do much damage at all.

Its not fair.

So you want Thief to have all this high burst, easy access to stealth every 4 seconds and when they can be attacked you want them to have access to your version of what Retal would be? Yeah…I’ll pass thanks.

Sure, lowering the damage would drop the bursting to a reasonable level but that wouldn’t be a reasonable solution because now we have the sustained dps of a ranger bear pet.

Three weapon sets would just lead to mace/hammer cc’ing or pindown/arcing arrow swapping to 100b, swapping to shieldbash->eviscerate.

And doing 4 times the work.. while trying to do everything else.

It would just be too much spam.

It wouldn’t be OP, but it would be very inconsistent and hard to play and increase the skill-cap of the warrior so far ahead of the other classes, while not making it that strong.

We would need 30 more trait points to compensate for all our spread around traits as well.

Honestly, it would be too hard to implement and we way too spammy. (I hate spam, but honestly with 3 weapon sets.. I really would be doing nothing but spamming, because why not?)

Retaliation should reflect and reduce 15% of all damage, including dots. Not how many times you attack.

Retaliation not only should reduce the damage you take, but reflect it back to the target. (Of course, this means less of it would go to classes like Guardian, and more of it would be added to classes like Warrior/Thief (to make more non-stealth style builds.)

What numbers would you expect this to generate? I think it could be insanely broken in stuff like flurry, siphon, unload, etc. if the numbers are too high…

Siphon/Unload/Flame Jet are ranged attacks.

This would only affect attacks that are within 200m.

Since its a condition it can be cure-able, it also can be hard-countered with the retaliation boon.

It has a lot of counter play, it would heal on-par with what retaliation does in damage.

I think the entire weapon set needs a revamp, it could use a quality of life improvement and also fix the “Miss when moving.” bug.

I think Flamethrower should get heavy access to Torment. It should also not push you back, but only your targets. Also retaliation damage reduction on Flame Jet.

If ranger is designed to be a woodsman hunter then spear (as a land-based 2H) is a logical choice. Given that Anet intend to add new types of weapon soonish, i would really hope spear is one of them. Warrior might get it too. It makes sense.

I would like Ranger to have the “Indian.” type spear style, whilst Warriors have the “Dragoon.” Warrior-ish style.

I would like it as a an ability unique to the warrior, perhaps as an addition to On My Mark!, or thrown onto some of the lackluster weapon abilities (axe, for example). However, I wouldn’t want it as a condition: Make it a unique affect, like Sword 4 or Guardian greatsword 5.

That is kind of what conditions are in this game, debuffs.
