I really don’t understand the hate against the SoS change. Before you got 7 seconds to start with, which was ok, then 1 second refresh, which is nothing. Now you get 4 seconds, but can stand in it for 20+ seconds, then get 4 second refreshes as you move.

If you’re standing around waiting for a zerg to start moving, you can continually recast it to get a very long duration.

Since it seems the devs don’t want to make big modifications to the guardian and more and more people grow tired of it, let’s imagine what would happen if they all re-rolled another class. In your opinion, what would happen? Would it even matter?

People would just use mesmers for dungeon support and warriors for WvW commanders and sPvP bunkers.

In other words, the world would go on.

People complain about PvP being dead and when it picks back up, people complain that everyone’s not pro enough…

Everyone starts somewhere and if this is bringing in people that still have yet to learn what you already know, then don’t hate.

Believe it or not, one of the things that holds back players experience the most in this game is the community…even though people love to point the finger at ANet.

I actually agree. Finally a thread that’s not about the same stuff over and over again. Sometimes I have a hard time finding my cursor so instant ground targeting is a big fail for me. I would use instant ground targeting if I was able to change the appearance of my curao so I could see it more visibly.

Shh…it’s never too late for a thread to be de-railed by complaints about diamond skin, the cost of new heal in sPvP, or other general QQ about insert class here.

Not a misheard phrase, but hopefully in the spirit of the thread: ever since I learned that Scarlet’s voice actress is the same lady who voices Twilight Sparkle, I can’t help but think of an evil version of Twilight Sparkle whenever Scarlet speaks:

Honestly, I don’t think Skyhammer is that bad, even though it’s definitely not the best map for really serious PvP. The knockback aspect definitely adds an additional element to play, even if it does help some classes much more than others.

But if I was really that hardcore, I would just be doing team PvP with a full consistent group anyways.

Don’t worry, the items aren’t soulbound. Simply hit the deposit option on your bag and they will be put into your PvP locker and will be useable by anyone on your account.

If you don’t want them at all, you can use a PvP salvage kit to break down the items into materials that you can use to craft the PvP gear you want for that character.

Because you have a much higher chance of winning in solo Q. In team Q, you’re likely to get pitted against organized teams of players who likely are talking on Vent, have played together before, and have a more optimal team composition.

For ele, is that 25/10/25/10 a proposed DPS dungeon build? I assume that’s LH build for the conjures.

has the math been done to compare with a 25/25/10/10?

If group needs PF (running only 1 ele), how would you allocate the traits to get 30 on fire? or is PF outdated?

Yes, it’s a lightning hammer build. It trades 10% dmg >90% HP for a more reliable 10% damage on burning targets. Elementalists have a lot of good trait choices, depending on the needs of the group. They are one of the few classes I would say doesn’t have a be-all, end-all meta trait build. If your group would like an ele for fury stacking, you can go persisting flames, but if your composition gives enough group fury it’s not necessary to have.

They also seem to be one of the few classes that has a viable ranged build if you consider a staff build like the one Guan posted on the Guru forums.

It’s for the best that you don’t have a date. I know, it sucks not knowing when this will happen, but when developers force a deadline, it often means that they get pushed into releasing something that’s not ready or unnecessarily holding back something that could be released earlier.

I just wanted to stop by and let you guys know that we are listening. We’re looking at a few different ways to address the time investment it currently takes to get new skills in PvP, but it’s not something we’re able to talk about quite yet.

You’ll see a drastically different system in place in our next major rewards release that should address many of your concerns.

Thanks Josh. I don’t agree with people have been reacting to this, but I do agree in that I like the direction GW2 took with having sPvP as something that is self-sufficient and not reliant on PvE. The ability to jump in sPvP without being max level and without needing to grind out gear was one of the top reasons that got me excited about the game.

Now if only we could get the PvE side to be as responsive into looking at why ascended gear takes the game away from the ‘no gear treadmill’ aspect that set this game apart from its competition…

My point was that their behavior in the past is showing that pvp is getting the short stick because its not as profitable as say pve. Pvpers have no incentive to buy gems, but now we need gold to unlock basic tools.
To see first game in a long time that successfully seperated PVE and PVP is now going against their own ideas that made me interested in the game, a level playing field, is just sad.

Sure…if you ignore the fact that the sPvP forums are probably the most replied-to section of the entire forums, that the reward system is getting an entire rework, that you can now level through sPvP without ever touching PvE or WvW because of the new tomes, and that you have access to even more rewards now than ever since the Dec 10th patch.

I mean, if you overlook all that stuff, sPvP players are really like poor lost orphans because they need 25 skill points to buy a new heal.

I have to say, we don’t always meet eye to eye, but you absolutely got it right on this update by allowing the purchasing of Tomes of Knowledge from Glory.

For us who ~HATE~ PvE, you’ve given us another option to level alts w/o having to do the gawd awful Karma Train in WvW.

LvL 1-20 (Book)
Lvl 20-80 : 75k Glory and 6g.
Dungeon Armor Set: 15k-40k Glory +gold.

Agreed with this. I think it’s absolutely beautiful that I can now level a character through doing sPvP instead of PvE or WvW.

As much as I like running a 15/15/0/20/10 + 10 type hammer build on a Guardian, the buff to Powerful Blades makes me think that switching to a full sword DPS build (something like a 10/30/0/10/20), even when in a pug, is the way to go.

You need to realise that PVE == Money, at least in the heads of anet developers. I can’t see any other posible motivation besides greed, as it goes against their own policies of creating a level playing field in pvp (only cosmetic rewards).

And you coudl see it in other areas so far, pushing Eports before adding neccessary features to make the game fun, small effort on pvp development compared to pve. I understand some features take long to develop, but kitten your priorities are messed up(Espaths servers give money, templates and gamemodes dont).

So bow down to your PVE overlords, pvp peasants!

Seriously? There are costs and expenses to running a game. This doesn’t mean that there is any ‘greed’ involved and it doesn’t mean that you’re some poor little victim just because you can’t get everything you want for free.

If you don’t like the idea of PvE being mixed with PvP, make that point, but don’t start making wild accusations about the financial ethics of a company when it’s backed up by nothing but your cynical attitude.

Wasn’t Caed’s D/P build (one of the better builds although higher skill) actually buffed? For most builds its a buff b/c you don’t need as many init-giving traits anymore, so you can take MOAR DAMAGE, or if you didn’t have any init-giving traits, you can just spam more now.

Yea, standard D/P builds (25/30/0/0/15, 10/30/0/0/30, etc.) are slightly better with the initiative change. However, it’s not a huge difference, particularly since the initiative regen from First Strikes in the CS tree was nerfed.

There are no porting weapon abilities with D/P though, so the initiative change certainly won’t make this build do what the OP suggested.

WvW thief, no stability.

Seems like the other professions are invading the thief forums… Can’t seem to point out the only escape mechanism against CC is gone and we don’t have a stability skill to deal with stuns.

And instead of fixing it, other professions come in to say, no problem dude, thief nerf is fine because you have lyssa runes. Can’t get any easier for thieves. Next nerf is probably change to HP.

Dagger storm gives you stability, sure. It also has a cast time of like a second before the thief starts spinning. It also DOESN’T break stun (which is the whole point here). It also has a 90s CD. It also removes the main Elite skill thieves use in WvW (Basilisk Venom) or PvE (Thieves guild). Finally, you CAN’T use shadow return while dagger storming because shadow return has a cast time, so it queue’s up after dagger storm. You have to waste a dodge and then shadow return (which still uses it’s stupid cast time) to get back.

Btw, what you said is like saying “Oh btw, you can’t use Supply drop on your engi anymore because you need stability on a huge CD. Use Mortar turret instead (i know turret doesn’t give stability, this is an analogy)”.

So basically, in order to not get stunned, he needs to put a stunbreak on his bar. Good thing thief can run 3 stunbreaks and be perfectly viable.

1) Venon share…there’s your problem.
2) Stand out of range and you won’t need to spam your evade. Use your initiative for cluster bomb, poison fields, and blast finishers.

And if you want something engaging, do something other than following a zerg in WvW. Do some roaming or sPvP.

It has been recently moved from Grandmaster to Master trait.. and due to the lack of better useful traits it has been instead used as a filler.. or atleast I do.

Most of the solo queue players seem to be entering team queue alone now because it’s much more profitable. Discrimination against solo queue is starting to make it obsolete.

I doubt this will keep up when people start to realize that they have a much lower chance of winning against a team of coordinated players. I mean, there are tremendous advantages to picking the class/builds of your team composition, being able to communicate over TS/Mumble/Vent, as well as playing with people that you have played with before.

For pve fine. But one of the fundamentals of pvp in this game is an even competitive playing field, and it’s a big reason I play it. This is the first change ever that flies in the face of that.

You don’t need to reroll characters all the time like you’ve stated to be competitive. That’s ridiculous.

If you don’t have 25 skill points to buy the new heal, either you’re new to the game or you just have avoided PvE so much that you probably don’t even realize that you can get this easily.

You’re trying to argue against the principle on this, but your claim is really, really weak, especially considering that in almost every other MMO you have to do a decent amount of PvE before you can even touch PvP. Giving all players access to PvP gear and skills the way GW2 does is virtually unheard of. Even in GW1 where you could roll an instant maxed character, you still had to play to unlock other skills and gear upgrades to have any build outside of the default one.

Are there really this many thieves that are having this much trouble with stuns?

I mean, either you’re not dodging stuns (which is especially easy against classes like Warrior who have terribly obvious animation tells) or you’re not bringing at least 1 stun breaker, or you’re charging into a huge group of enemies that you shouldn’t be messing with.

I mean, I understand that sometimes you can get caught in a bad place with a zerg, but that’s what the stun breaker is for. I mean, even if that’s on cooldown, you can easily use Daggerstorm, which is your best elite for going up against a zerg anyways (stability + aoe).

You can either look for ways to improve your gameplay or ignore the fact that other people are doing just fine and pretend that you’re really just helpless because of your class choice…and if you choose the latter, then just re-roll and be done with it. But don’t expect much, because an attitude of faulting external factors will always hold you back.

D/P build for dungeons/fractals/pve

Hi, i’m looking for a good build for dungeons/fractals/pve. Been enjoying shadow shot and would like to keep this and build something around it focusing on dps. Would prefer not being a full zerk. (short-bow as secondary weapon)

Dagger/Pistol is, unfortunately, one of the worst weapon combos for PvE, so you’re inherently preventing yourself from getting a ‘good’ build.

If you like the ability to teleport to your enemy, consider one of the following:
– Choose a build with a heavy investment in Trickery, as this will lower your Steal cooldown.
– Equip Infiltrator’s Signet.
– Equip Shadowstep.
– Use a sword mainhand, as the #2 ability will port you to your target.

All of these options will not only allow you to use a more effective weaponset (such as D/D on single target or S/P on multi-target), but they will also not cost you initiative, which lets you instead spend initiative on abilities that take down your target faster.

It’s still one of the worst skills available. The only difference is that you can get it with a lower investment in Acrobatics.

I’ll quote what someone else posted in another thread:

So let’s recap:

- It will teleport you randomly within 600 radius, including the spot you started from
- It won’t break the stun/launch/daze/knockback/herp/sink/float
- It will teleport you whether or not you hurr stability
- It is the one of the two thief traits that can actually kitten you instead of helping. You may end up in an enemy zerg or stuck inside a structure. At least we don’t have to pick it.

Really, it’s just too much of a liability. There’s a chance that it’ll save you, but in my experience, it rarely helps and can easily hurt you.

It would be nice if there were more abandoned houses (people could RP in.) and more secret areas and jumping puzzles we could use and explore! Even a minigame where you go around finding secret gardens and such!

Yea, I agree that stuff like this is awesome. It really makes the game feel more alive and gives it a feel of being much more polished. I mean, one of the things I hated about Tera was that everywhere felt like some canned terrain with a bunch of mobs sprinkled all over the place.

So basically, in order to not get stunned, he needs to put a stunbreak on his bar. Good thing thief can run 3 stunbreaks and be perfectly viable.

Basically the complaint here is that he can no longer spam his stunbreak, which was pretty kitten OP before. And then, because of this, he complains without making any minor changes to his build. He could easily change his build slightly (Literally change one utility, a rune set, etc) and be fine. But no he wants it to be like it was.

Seems like the nerf worked as intended.

Yea, you shouldn’t need this many, but that would be perfectly fine. That’s not even including using Daggerstorm for stability.

However, if you’re getting knocked down that much, you need to learn to get to a safe distance and use your ranged options while your stunbreaker is on cd. If you’re fighting a zerg, the short bow is one of your best options anyways since it has so much AoE.

i cannot afford Travelers atm and want to ask for your opinion on Superior Runes of Speed. What would be the optimal choice for a gear setup build arround this rune set or are Traveler the ones to go for?

Traveler’s are really best. If you want a cheap option for the interim, you can get runes of the centaur.

If you had any power, you would have been fine. You didn’t. If you’d been in a teamfight, he would have lost that 10% immediately. You’re running headfirst into a brick wall – that is one foot wide. Step 6 inches either direction and you’ll be fine. You can try to argue “oh I shouldn’t have to” and keep running into that wall, but please don’t complain about the immobility of the wall when you’re choosing to run into it.

^ Perfectly stated. PvP in GW2 is a team game and classes aren’t balanced to be perfect in a 1 v 1.
