Because in most cases, taking 5 warriors IS the most efficient way to play, especially in PUG’s. Maybe 4 warriors and 1 guard/mes/ele/thief, depending on the content you are doing. But damage wise nothing beats 5 wars.
Whaaat. Aha. Seems like pugs are still stuck with the “meta” of almost 1 year ago.
/laughWell, it does take time for information to trickle down unless you have the resource on hand to gain it
I am pretty certain that most pugs don’t visit the dungeon forum. These specialized type of info such as meta are obtainable by doing research which most do not bother with unless it becomes common knowledge.
Until the perception and reality won’t change from “press1 until stuff dies”, this won’t change either.
Cleric / Magi AC Spider solo with only autoattack and no dodges ;P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNMltxyvAvoWow, and 100% water attunement for the regen. How long did that take? O.o
“The fight took 35 minutes.”
In the description.
It’s not that I kick rangers, but rather people with terrible attitudes, the list of which happens to have you at the top.
Get off your high horse.
Look, mate, there are plenty of people who judge/kick someone only because he plays a certain class, which i am free to find wrong. I’m not defending those who play bad, only the class itself. I rarely have problems with playing any class (i got them all on lvl80) and i really don’t see why people sometimes kick me even before i am able to say “hi” (at least they could give me a chance, to change my char). They have no idea of how bad or good i play. Those are the people on a high horse.
Everything i do is to decide on my own what class i play and if anyone complaints about those issues we all are aware of, it’s absolutely okay to give them an advice as i did. So i apologize if you are incapable of understanding this, but i have to let you know i really don’t care. Have a nice day.You still don’t get why you’re being kitten on in this thread, do you? It has nothing to do with you playing your ranger, but rather your sucky defensive attitude in here. Right off the bat you’re assuming that I’m a ranger hater. Guess what? I’m training a ranger too for dungeons. If I hated the class, would I have bothered?
Good day to you too, although I hope you dismount that horse before someone shoots you off it with your own bow.
Wow, you must be a special kind… You don’t like my bad attitude? I’m okay with that. It’s absolut correct to throw ignorance and contempt at anyones face who tries to force other people to do no matter what. I refuse to support any kind of nonsense, even if it means to join the minority. What a pity there seems to be no hope for you to ever understand that.
Keep the horse blabla going, it doesn’t afford any defence at all.Neither does your pvt gear and longbow.
1. Debugging.
2. Not actually a dungeon story, but i must share it …
A guildie recently realised today, he levels a warrior instead a guardian when i told him. The “good” thing he was only lvl8.
edit: I forgot to mention, he was above 2k AP actually, so not a new player.
(edited by Dalanor.5387)
When you pug something, your bound to get kicked. No one wants zerker only warrior elitists (Even while playing a Guard I’ve been kicked for being one) in their guilds, and so they resort to LFGs, so there is a higher concentration of them there.
I don’t know you, but following the recent trends amongst guardians with camping staff and hammer in a PVT/cleric AH build, that could be a problem maybe.
I’m always tempted to share my secrets on how to make 12 g/h or 400-600 g per week, but I feel like some people are not worthy of having that kind of information.
If it does not involve TP flipping (I already do that) then I would like to submit my application to learn what your method is. Also, your figures are based on how much time played per day?
Either TP or selling Arah if i can bet.
And we still don’t have the option to reliably inspect other players build and gear.
Long story short, be patient and play the game. AFK won’t make you any income.
Selling unneeded materials, salvaging every possible rare you can get helps too. Running dungeons and recent living story events can net you a nice amount of gold.
Any detail about your gold gaining habbits?
I guess he was one of the people who did no research about the game before it came out. Oh well.
If the feature isn’t allowed in dungeons for some reason, people will just port out. But currently i can’t even name one dungeon where you need to retrait.
But most people hop into dungeons with weird/subpar builds to begin with anyhow :/
Exactly. Now they will have 1 minute to change before i kick them.
I have to agree with OP. I actually find GW2 combat much more boring than in mmo with holy trinity, especially in PvE. Now everyone has one role and its dps. So what that we have evasion, it does not add that much.
And tactics? Give me a break. Stand at one hell of a big boss mob and spam all your skills, evade some attacks, so awesome..Remember Colin Johanson joke about other mmos? “I swong a sword?..” Well that is a joke on GW2 now
Well to be honest, removing holy trinity didn’t change anything, it just made everything more zergish. So no, there was no innovation here.
Because spammig 4 skills in a “rotation” and side step from an obvius danger zone is soooooooo exciting.
Actually yes. And thats the kicker, because if such combat is more exciting than what is in GW2, it just tells how much GW2 combat sucks (at least for me).
Then what do you do here and don’t go back to WoW?
Here is what WoW was: 432 and spam your “auto” until cd is up or as a healer click click click every few seconds or as a tank spam [threat generating skill], if something went wrong, press Taunt. Yay, such an amazing experience. :/
In GW2, you should equip the right weapons, the right utilities (since you have a limited skillbar here, unlike other games), switch food buffs if necessary, stack might and fury, position yourself etc
And the whole flow and combat speed is different. Here you need to move away from danger and dodge the attacks, meanwhile in WoW the obvius tell takes seconds (or DBM warns you) and you just casually walk away like you don’t give a duck.
Oh well, it’s just a matter of taste, but if you bored, move on.
tl;dr
Don’t craft ascended if you have an ele alt, right?
So you die on condi, so what. Oneshot from thief way worse because you cannot see it coming and cannot cleanse it with condition removal.
I don’t personally get one shotted by thieves.
But Impale kills you. ROFL
A few other thing to above.
Ranger.
GS 3 and 4 is great for skipping. Dagger off-hand is nice to have beside a warhorn, it has an extra evade and warhorn skills have high cooldown anyway.
Necro.
Dagger / warhorn + focus is good enough for full melee setup. You can cast focus#4 twice before you need to swap back for warhorn#5.
You will suck at skipping, no mobility skills, except DS#2, but it will put you in combat.
Yeah, because thieves totally needs that …

ps: and it’s already compete with Executioner, which is just too good to give up for this
zerker is not the problem not having holy trinity in the game IS the problem Geting ONE shoot from boss IS problem
List the bosses that one shot you, please.
Go into high level fractals. Everything does way to much damage (one of the main reasons people rage quit at dredge on the third), basically any champ or legendary will 1 shot down you during lvl50s.
It depends on heavily what class and gear you have.
I’m more of an axe/warhorn and short bow ranger but I do run those and stay in range to get and receive group buffs. Thanks for the input.
And in no way would I ever bring bearbow to a dungeon or fractal run that is pure madness!
Condi build isn’t much better than bearbow …
Question to a few posters above.
Which bosses one-shot you outside of Lupi, Mossman and Archdiviner?
While i’m not an active PvP player myself, i share the feelings with this guy. Unlocks in pvp shouldn’t be a problem ever and basically you (Arena net) drop out the easy-to-pick up, so called “competetive” gameplay out of the window for … reasons.
Just don’t do it, please. :/
Problems with the unlock system:
1. It totally stands in contrast to the initial characteristics of GW2 pvp. Spvp was always ment to be a place where you could jump in right from the beginning, without having disadvantages at the choice of skills / traits.
2. Being able to unlock new skills / traits is NO reward, being not able to use those traits is just a penalty, however, this doesn’t turn the unlocking system into a reward.
3. What else will we have to unlock in PvP? It started with skills, now we have to unlock traits. What’s next? I heard, they also reward runes and sigils as well as they add new amuletts. Will we have to unlock those, too?
4. Every time, sombody has issues with fighting vs. a certain build, you usally get the answer “try to play that build by urself”. This is a good tip and as long you have 1 free char space, it is easy to realize. With unlocks, it will become “spend 1-2 gold into a char you probably wont use very much, if you want to try it”.
5. For PvE players, there are 2 ways to unlock the new traits: via “Exploring the world” and the general way, the merchant. PvP players will be restricted to the merchant. At least, give us a unique PvP way for unlocking them. What about using the e.g. “(Chapmion) Illusionist” titels or Ranks for that (in additoin to merchants)
And last, this is more related to the “fusion of PvE and PvP”.
I know, you already introduced coins in PvP, however you should consider this:
As soon PvP gives more coins than PvE, PvE players might abuse PvP for farming issues. However, as long PvP gives significantly leses coins than PvE, PvP players will complain about having disadvantages.
This gets worse, when you need coins to unlock stuff for PvP.
Getting less coins out of PvP isn’t that bad, if PvE is the only thing, you can use them for. Getting less coins out of PvP, while actually needing them for PvP is unfair.
If the Blood GM will be called “Necromancers suck” i will be pleased.
No, they are not. A group of players going for a champion won’t use CCs effectively.
They’ll go for DPS. CC is pointless against them because they will get Defiance all the time.
Try to time your skills to interrupt the champion, it won’t work, because someone else will definitely spam CCs, and they will get Defiance.
Maybe you should coordinate a bit more? There are also trash mobs who are not immune to cc.
How do you coordinate the behavior of someone you never even see in a zerg ?
Common sense.
Like at Teq. There are spots for different roles. Roles are told, people execute it.
Done.
Please dont take my lightning hammer, you silly warrior.
Oh i wish i could thisisspartakick those people into the abyss for that …
You can hard CC them, but not necessary everytime.
Buff in other games, let’s say WoW, you use buff to, but often they are kind of a fire and forget types of skills and stay on the target for like 10/20/30/60 minutes and are minor, stackable stat buffs anyway. Debuffs are more active, but still lingering for a while.
Because healing shouts sucks in a zerker group. Join a “friendly” group and you will be wellcomed with all those pvt and cleric characters.
“They’re known to have the best healing skills in the game in water attunement[…]”
You mean waterfields which is available to multiple classes and can’t be blasted by multiple classes to get better benefit as zerker compared to full healing power oriented characters?
Because there isn’t any traditional agro system in the game, thats why.
Go back to whatever holy trinity game you played or get used to this system. It’s just a friendly advice, don’t feel offended. Just a little you know. ;D
edit: Anet advertised the game way before release that they won’t ever had a traditional tank-heal-dps setup. Instead that they went with a support-control-damage trio. I wonder why people are still surprised by that. Look up what you purchase people!

This thread is honestly academic at best. Both are perfectly fine. All you necro nay-sayers check this out:
And now what?
ps: Just for fun
http://youtu.be/PWQ-39_C8LI
I’m really worried about this “unlock traits by running around and doing stuff” thing, I found map completion boring as hell but at least it was an optional content; unlocking traits will not be optional at all, it will force me to do something I may find horrible and annoying and that’s not what a game is designed for.
I will wait to actually see what people will have to do to unlock traits, I hope it will be fast enough otherwise I will seriuosly consider to stop playing PvE and WvW; I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking like that.
Just stop playing please if you can’t even read the announcement about the changes …
- The Art of Combat: New traits, confirmed here.
- Critical!: Ferocity, what else?
- A New Way to Explore the Looks of Guild Wars 2: Wardrobe system hopefully, already datamined
- A Colorful Outlook: Dye system copy from China version?
- Looking For Group?: Improved lfg (like gw2lfg.com was), maybe some guild recruiting feature
- Removing Restrictions: I have literally no idea. Oo
- Account-Bound: WXP.
- A Solid Foundation: Performance changes.
- Facilitating Friendly Play: Improvement in overflow, party, squad system.
Imagine what they have done possibly with Spectrals and Soul reaping … oooooooh my god tank necro. I’m drooling. :Q
I actually feel a bit insulted with this anouncement.
They say like it is special getting healing while you are using your defensive mechanisms. Every other class gets it without problems while necromancers can only use it when necromancers have to invest 30 (then 6) trait points and our limit is regeneration while loosing all our other heals (even from other people). The fact that this trait is in death magic does not help my opinion either.
I assume they remade the minors already and at least the GM minor helps someway to make synergy with this trait to heal with Regen too or enable allied heals to us in DS.
I would really love to see this feature. Of course, this should also include equipped armor, weapons and trinkets in the templates.
As another proposal for a paid extension to this system, maybe the equipment could be stored in a separate space from the inventory.
Yeah, that’s another thing, but they stated it’s complicated because of reasons.
But i would like to see a system implemented similar how WoW worked with the equipment templates. Get your stuff on you, press save, done. And it even wrote a notification with red letters if it can’t find items in your inventory!
@Cogbyrn
Oh i’m so dumb, so it will heal our real health … I need more coffee. kitten .
@Falcon
The whole traitline will be reworked and Death is a toughness / boon line, so it’s defensive. Somehow makes sense.
People complain, no matter what. You can’t please everyone.
You can experiment freely now, save what you need and you don’t need that many build. I’m curious about where and what do you need, that a few slot isn’t enough.
I suggested to start with only 2, because in my personal opinion that’s enough.
Hmm it will be around ~1% LF per sec with 0 healing power and a bit more than 2% with 1k healing power. Or i missed something. Not impressed. Waiting for details.
Guys, what do you think about completely new players after this patch?
No traits before lvl30, they even need to hunt them, because i bet they won’t be able to buy it with gold. They will become less desired. :/New players will unlock traits by the time they hit upon AC. As said in the blogpost, one trait will get unlocked in AC Story, it fits well the desired “progression”. Don’t underestimate casual’s desire for roleplay >:3. I hope more traits will be tied to dungeons and therefore promote low-mid level runs, leaving less room for frustrated kids complaing about Dungeon segregation.
Well, they will still need to get their adept traits and they not neccessary had any idea what they need (tbh it’s true for the current implementation). I’m just fear they will get more alienated from the rest of the players.
I like your idea about dungeon hunting! :O <crossfinger>
Because it’s reasonable that they will follow the same route with this, as with character, bag and bank slots.
You get a nice amount of that feature for free and if it isn’t enough for you, you can expand it further.
Honestly, a lot of players don’t even have 5 characters or maxed out bank / bag.
Same with this. If it’s character based (i don’t think an account wide template makes sense), 2 slot is more than enough. See my above comment why.
edit: Maybe in GW1 you had 23523626 viable and optimal build, but this game is called GW2.
The changes looks nice and exciting, i hope they will have some super awesome GM trait for necromancers.
What, not interested in your new healing capabilities ? Hahaha
A renamed Soothing mist for 6x the trait points? Sorry, i’m sceptical.
But one of the offensive lines maybe will get some delicious surprise. Like Dhuumfire. ;D
Aktarus i understand you, but you can’t get everything for free. Giving the option for 2 free template is more than enough anyway as i wrote above. If the price is reasonable, you have the option to get more template and Anet gets some money. Win-Win.
Even your bank and bag slots are free and you know what? Expandable for gems. So i don’t see your problem.

Well, it’s just my opininon, but if you are a pure PvE player, you rarely need more than 2 spec. Suddenly only my guardian came to my mind to swap between a GS SW/F set and a hammer set for fractals, but you get it.
In WvW it could be the same.
If you play between the two game modes, 2 template seems to be enough for me.
For a reasonable price, the extension can work. 400 gem for an extra slot is what i would like personally, but even if it’s 800 i could live with it, since i wouldn’t need more than 2 anyway. :P
Since in a recent announcement we get finally the option to retrait for free on the fly, it would be nice to get build templates too.
Give 2 free slots and make it expandable with some gem store item up to … idk … 10 slot?

So basiclly a renamed Soothing mist for +25 more trait points? Great?
30/30/0/0/10 build can work in PvE with pure axe. Sad it won’t give a bonus with warhorn. :C
edit: The Empower allies builds bonus still seems to be better for a groupwide dps increase.
Please no buff on enemy HP, that would only encourage zerker even more. Some bosses (like Golem Mk II and Caledon wurm) already have way too much HP when upscaled.
Just a minor detail. World bosses, that are count as structures, such as Behe, Fire ele, Caledon wurm, Shatterer, Teq, Golem and Claw can’t be critted, thus zerker is useless or outright non-optimal.
How about 3 headed wurm? I’ve never done it sadly.
Honestly, I find this topic amusing, because ever since I saw that cleric run where they unbound dodge, I’m convinced cleric gear has ruined the game.
And also this. ^^^
The gameplay from a dire perplex thief to a S/d damage thief goes from immensely easy to a relative challenge.
The gameplay for condi warrior vs zerk warrior on any build goes from very easy to a relatively easy level.
The gameplay for engineer is roughly the same either way, but is made imbalanced by supply crate and perplex runes
I truly accept that you 4-5 guys don’t want condis changed, but repeating it isn’t going to make what you say true… You say you back all your stuff up with facts and figures but you never really do. You are ignoring in most of your responses any level of the depth of the game. Just scratching the surface of combat.
I have no desire to continue discussing this, and I’d really prefer this thread be closed, as I view your responses Coglin and Drarnor as toxic and false.

edit: before another mod will jump on me
Try to think about what you said. You talk about a rune set which base itself on Confusion, a condition that forces your opponent to not do anything beside cleanse, howevery if they do anything else, basicly they kill themselves. It’s learn to play or #nerfconfusion2014, nothing more. Next please!
edit2: arguing with cheesy builds isn’t a best thing to do. How about backstab? Or killshot? Or Churning earth bombing?

Auto-spamming 1 skill is a lot more boring.
Don’t play just WvW then and enable auto-attack, it helps a lot.
Stability, dodge, watch for tells, condition cleansing.
+ positioning
One thing i missing is a transfer well, but i can live without that.

Pfft. Why press 4 buttons when you can macro them and press 1? At least using macros is contraindicated in GW2.
To not fall asleep.
