OP is again one of the players who bashes the current situation before even realizing what happens and how stuff works.
OP you don’t need to build tanky (read: equipping gear with passive defense) to be able to tank. If you are a warrior or guardian you have plenty of ways to mitigate damage with blocks, blinds, etc. Due to the same issue control and support is mostly unaffected by gear (reflects scale with Precision and Ferocity) so you can aid your team mates even if you build full glass cannon.
The reason is people not bringing 5 eles is the different kind of support and control that other classes brings and the utility they can offer, like Portal from mesmers.
Melee is stronger since it has more risk involved in it (mind you, balance is based on PvP). If you are stay at 1200 range and pew pew or just kite the boss why you should do equal or more damage than the guy who stands in the enemy face?
How can you play your ranger the same as your warrior? Of course if you look at everything on a macro level this game is stupidly easy since you just push buttons like in Pong. C’mon man …
ps: forget how to WoW and learn to how to GW2 <3
what meta, i don’t see any meta….just some particle effects in a small place with ppl thinking they are pro players just because they still press 11111111 all the time……
The #1 skill are on auto attack by default, you dont need to press it repeatedly. But i find it funny how special players think they are better when they range everything in tanky gear. Oh the irony …
So is running the game. And it doesnt make the data any less valid.
It’s more I guess an example of you guys trust that they actually don’t read the forums :p
That aside, I honestly have zero idea what the post in question is supposed to prove. Is he just bragging about his damage? Complaining about ‘bads’? What’s the point?
Why aren’t you in the general forums if you have nothing to do with dungeons?
The point is ANet forces open world content where 5 people do the job for the other 30 as well which is just utterly frustrating to the part of the playerbase that makes effort towards efficient and goal oriented gameplay which you arent the part of it so its not a surprise you dont even understand a simple post like that.
As it is, it’s only me and a buddy online nowadays, but we’d have a ball 2-manning dungeons if they were designed for it.
I’m in the same boat. It’s pretty much just me and my best friend playing this game. When we do dungeons we usually just pair up and form our own LFG but it’d be fun if we could just do dungeons by ourselves.
Theoritically you can. The rest is just a matter of skill.
Purple Miku even soloed lvl50 in Fractals …
Can someone translate this technoblabble and explain why GW2 has limits on conditions? I tought WoW still has a cap on debuffs. Oo
Speaking of silverwastes, I was doing one big boss thing (starts with a small orange aoe circle to push melee’s back and instantly follows with a large to pull ranged people in) in a zerg of 35 players. Overall dps was 55k, of which I personally contributed roughly 5k…
36 players doing the dps of 11 properly equipped ones, and the boss still died with like 1:40 on the timer left. Timer should be 1 minute instead of 5 minutes. Or maybe 1:30 for to allow for well equipped bads. But nomad ranging gs mesmers should just not be allowed…
that is a disturbing set of numbers.
The worst part is that muffin and xaffie probably contributed another 10k of those.
Just thinking about it, how would they even design challenging content without proper players to test it out? And I have not heard of any decent player they consulted for content creation.
But but but they already have … :C
Look at that amazing innovative gameplay! Look at that and learn something, scrub.
Just would like to be able to help others more.
The only thing i can think ff that actually can help is a hammer guard with perma protection.
As a side note, check out my previous link or any other cleric/pvt/nomad solos on youtube. You cant die with those builds so those kind of builds shouldnt need a buff (only a nerf but thats my opinion) and those players who simply cant utilize their builds well be it glasscannon or not than they have simple learn to play issues.
I don’t get it why this big hush hush about group content.
Are they affraid of the vocal minority if they abandon instanced content?
Are they affraid of casuals if they implement raid like content?
Are they affraid outsiders who has nothing to do with the game to further decrease it’s reputation with gossips?
Seriously i have no idea but it slowly kills my enthusiasm. :/
Dat tease …
“Challenging Content
One of our focuses in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is to provide truly challenging content for our players to overcome. Within the jungle, you’ll encounter entirely new species, creatures, and bosses that are more advanced than the encounters we’ve introduced in the past. These encounters will require greater skills and tactics to overcome, whether you’re adventuring through our jungle on your own or with a party. Not only are we presenting these new challenges throughout the outposts and adventures you’ll find in the jungle, but they’ll also be layered across other types of content experiences. As we get closer to the release of the expansion, we’ll come back and give specific details on the new types of challenging group encounters we’ll be introducing to Guild Wars 2 and explain how these new types of challenges work within the Guild Wars 2 content experience.”
Frost obviously you are not part of the target audience of Fractals.
If they won’t want to separate anyone why they have 3 game modes and a bunch of zones in PvE in the first place with overflow/megaserver instances as well … ? See where i’m going?
PHIW’s still manage to climb up to lvl50 (horrible personal experiences) so i don’t see a problem here.
Stability profs win again… BS imo. Stop making stability profession ultra stronger in ‘challenging’ personal story fights.
Every 5 sec a stun spam… really. So either stability or Gtfo. or perma dodge… (but then you cant light the things. Cause the aoe interrupt you. So stability still ftw.
Didnt read the whole thread yet but i feel the need to reply this. You need 0, read ZERO, stability for this encounter. You can even ignore Braham’s bubble shield thingy to use the torch. Simply wait until the dragon do his attacks (mind you, it attacks twice in a row) and immediately run to the cog and interact with it.
Its an observing and learn to play issue, sorry mate.
PS – My good friend Brazil may be interested however.
Oh boy, diz gun b good!
Does it mean that the incoming damage from confusion in PvE will increase as well … ?
well i realy hope they add solo mode at that big upcoming patch and features !
They won’t.
Issue #1: Dungeons are neglected for a while.
Issue #2: You can solo almost all of them … if you are good enough.
Mursaat are in this video.
I am so certain that is a Mursaat.
What if its a seer? They look kinda similar and they may got a revamp in appearance.
Awesome! Hopefully the logo and name implies that we can finally get some content that’s focused on the Sylvari.
I see what you did there.
A typical GW2 phiw. Not only lie to my face, but shrugs off with skritty attitude and brag about his meaningless stuff. 10/10 would block again.
you dont’ have to stack.

Slightly on topic. In the past days i encountered in the discussion which ended up with basically this:
This game needs lore in pvp.
Let it sink. Just let it sink.
Why i have the weird feeling after reading the replies that those who don’t agree with the OP didn’t actually read the first post … ?
Pax you are overthinking it.
Make a checkbox. Name it “lie detector” or whatever.
If you check it in, everybody in the LFG tool who want to check the incoming players for whatever reason can check you and you can see such groups.
If you dont check in that box, you dont see that kind of groups nor cant join in them.
Simple.
If you take the first option it doesnt really differ from the current situation but at least let the group check what the player has instead of rely on pinging their gear.
If you choose the second one just play how you want with other likeminded players.
Tough if the tool has more filters that can be an issue and im not sure we need that but a basic option would be nice. If you took on the man pants you dont have to worry.
Its not about the speed (where people get this anyway?), its about the experience and the mental state that you are in a group you want to play with even if it has issues (not perfect rotations, not perfect might stacking, etc.). The faster clear times just bonus additions.
You make your own group or look for one with no restrictions.
Many of the users here on the forums and reddit and whatnot told these kind of players exactly this and guess why you made this suggestion in the first place …
@Beldin
You would be surprised how dirty mouthed is this “nice community” when you point it out that they cant read.
There is no harm, in my opinion. But why do we need a new system added to this game just for this?
Yes, because thats why a certain part of the community gets bashed, insulted and neglected. And im not talking about your beloved casuals …
@Zalman
Reread the OP and the answer above yours by maddoctor.
@PaxTheGreatOne
Good points. Apart from gear, traits and buffs there is nothing you can check on a player before the run. The “skillcheck” happens after you started but these are a good indicators that a person is aware of what he/she should use. Not so long ago i met a full assasins thief with accuracy and fire sigils. Is it viable? Of course is it. Is it optimal? Not, absolutely not. Did i ask for it in the LFG? NO. And thats the problem.
People cant or refuse to read the descriptions, creating unnecessary tension. This way they dont even see the groups they cant fit in let alone join. But you are right, this wont guarantee the quality in the groups but at least handles some toxicity which is a good thing.
@Behellagh
Thats what i call irony. But said player could make a description like “want experienced players for a first timer” or “want to get carried”, etc.
@Lifestealer
Exactly. Everybody told ANet how the “improved” party kick system WILL be abused, yet they dont cared and implemented it anyway. There you go. Not if the old system was better but at least it had much lesser grief potential.
They reserved the largest room for the longest amount of time of anyone at the conference… if that isn’t hype then what is?
Oh, I am fully aware about what they have done. But they have not SAID anything at all about it. Without people checking PAX we would not even know about it at this time. And that is a rather large difference.
The community is hyping it up. ArenaNet have done nothing other than scheduling an event.
Exactly. If the announcement would be meaningfull it would be all over the place, right? Right? It will be just a PR move to the masses to proove how the LS busines model can work unlike sub based games. Or im just overly paranoid again.
ai abuses
You are a human. Fighthing against a scripted enemy. No matter what the developers do, you are better, so you basically abuse its flaws. Try. To. Understand. It. Finally.
ps: please show me an engaging fight (for you) from FF XIV or any other game please. Im interested in those non-abusable super intelligent AI’s i never heard of.
pps: Ad new content. Make no guides for it. People get rektd in zerker. Well, the majority ofc. Just check out the Silverwastes threads, everybody packs up tanky gear to survive mobs that can be killed really fast by the way.
Unfortunately I think they are only going to talk about their big success with the living story and how other MMO can cash in on this type of limited content release scheme. I do injoy the living story’s but I have to agree they are to short when they can be completed in a few hours. In my case do to real life and my limited playing time, it takes me a couple of days to complete by then it still leave me empty till the next chapter come out. I agree this game need an expantion but I don’t think this is going to happen, I hope I’m wrong!
This. The LS in its nature is very new to MMO’s so its highly possible that they would only hype it up for the masses. Maybe a possible season 3 announcement with a cinematic intro?
Yesterday i got kicked for using a staff on the TA tree as a guardian. I used greatsword …
How is he right? I play in meta for 2 years but am tired of it.
Based on your answers no, you dont.
How does this make me need instructions for new players?
See above
Are you dumb?
Reported.
ps: please check out the linked thread about the issue before posting here, thanks!
Finally im free! So story time.
Wanted to finish my daily pug runs and couldnt find a single AC p3 party so i made a group myself. Simple request “p3,lvl80,meta builds (gearcheck)”.
After many low levels, bearbows, MM necros, staff guardians, signet wars and whatnot a thief joined. I ask him for linking something, links full assasins ascended armor with pack runes, sword with fire sigil a dagger with accuracy. Oh and 0 signets on him. So i decided to silently get rid of him. And oh my god … That kittentalking he managed to do is insane even for my standards. Oh well. After that he sweared in his mother language which was french. Thats verbal abuse, right?
Another story. Let the picture speak for itself. Dudette and her adventures. Subject #1 from TA, the second one is from SE.
OP if you ignore all of the support and control abilities required in the game how about to drop the tanky training wheels and start to introduce the mechanics to yourself? You’ll see how much the game can offer unless you continously ignore the facts for whatever reason.
ps: Based on his previous replies OP is simply not satisfied with the game which can be understand if he don’t even recognize half of the mechanics, so i would suggest to leave the game and come back when you are up to date.
Same as Lupis kick or swipe in melee range or the teleport or bubble when someone is at range. It has nothing to do with walling the enemy or not.
not true, if Lupi is walled he will not do his PBAoE blast or bubble as long as everyone is stacked on him. You can fight him without walling him as long as everyone stand close, but the problem with that is he will move around and you risk his PBAoE blast.
Which is a range issue. It’s just easier to pull off that way but the mechanic won’t work even if you are off wall but at the right place at the right moment. For reference.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMQdVLbjUEo
Also, I think everyone know this by now but if Lupi is walled he can be 1 shot at the start of phase two with reflects (guard, engi, mesmer etc.). I don’t think its intended and I dislike when groups do it, but until they fix it there is a huge advantage to walling this boss.
Thats a more complicated issue. First of all it’s a niche situations with reflect damage. No other boss shoots that many projectiles in a short period of time so yeah, it’s borderline exploit. Secondly, the reflect placement on a wall is a huge oversight but that will probably get fixed in the next weeks/months. Again it’s a niche situation with a more complex issue than simply “walling something”.
edit: I never thought about it much, but you are right… walling a boss is mostly pointless now. I guess its just group mentality which you cant change, almost all of them will try to wall any boss they can. Since the OP will most likely get groups like this, he should be prepared to adjust his build for this. Always use s/p when this happen.
Yeah, you can still see 4 warr 1 mes groups in CoF … Pugs are a bit slow on tactics. :P In those cases S/P works well.
I plan on playing gw2 again and last I really played was back in june or july. My biggest question is have they actually made dungeons challenging or is it the same ol stand in a corner and dps? also anything new that is permanent been added??
FGS got nerfed long ago so it’s no longer a single stack and spam (unless you are in facetank gear) so i guess it’s an improvement.
Also, some boss attacks are negated when you stack on the wall
I keep hearing this, but no one wants to explain it. Ever. Examples?
I can think of several examples in AC at prima vista.
- The Spider Queen won’t throw poison wells if everyone is at melee range.
- Tunneling Gravelings won’t tunnel if everyone is at melee range.
Or TA up, the Spider Lady – the one certain way you have of beating her is by retreating in the tunnel and negating her “wake up my darlings”.
Or the Aetherpath and the final Cogface boss – he won’t fling cogs at nearby people.
And so on, and so forth.Or that stacking on a boss who pew-pews much will make it easier to reflect all his projectiles.
I agree though, I find stacking boring and I never do it, but you have to admit there’s some sense in it. As a Thief, stacking is obviously a huge no-no, as people have pointed out. Melee range is cool – and everyone should do it, when the tactics require it.
Spider queen got changed months ago and do the poison spit in melee range too.
Gravelings tunneling is proximity based attack.
Fiona spawns spiders when someone steps on the cocoons.
Clockhearth cog attack is proximity based again. Same as Lupis kick or swipe in melee range or the teleport or bubble when someone is at range. It has nothing to do with walling the enemy or not.
Standing in front of an enemy and drop a reflect on it will result the same.
No, there is no sense in it since the FGS nerf. Please educate yourself and avoid further spreading of misinformations. Same goes for you, nagr.
So everyone has the right to play how they want is totally acceptable until it’s based on the meta? Thats what you Windsagio and Star Ace wants to suggest?
I never said you couldn’t play zerker. Just don’t treat it as required play or call it a “Meta” (at least if you want to be accurate). Really, Ace didn’t either from what I read, his pont was ‘dont’ be a jerk about being meta, and don’t tie your ego up with the game.’
I admit the position you attributed to us is more easily argued against though :p
That’s another reason to spit off this thread, the OP in the thread that got me into the discussion wanted to change the game rules dramatically so that zerker was no longer ‘meta’. S/he was wrong on several points, and it muddies the actual discussion that can be had.
Not i’m the one who treat it. You and many other anti-zerkers claim this and insult our community for a non-existent problem. Or let me rephrase it. It’s an existent problem created by the anti-crowd which refuse to create their own community (happened in the other meta thread and in many other, no response to create a “PHIW guild”) or simply ignore other players (let’s call them elitist for sake of differences) requirements for certain playstyles.
Meta means what it means, if you misinterpret it its your problem but don’t treat it as a fault of others.
There are numerous instances where “zerker” isn’t the best option, but that got pointed out enough times already and ignored by all of you. As also pointed out many other options are viable and can be played in many gamemode, including PvE and instanced dungeon content. Again, we arrived to the point where the abusing PHIW crowd comes with the pitchforks and demand nerfs on a certain playstyle and ruining others experience for the sake of whatever instead of minding their own business with their likeminded people within their own rules.
tl;dr:
1. Meta means the best available option to achieve something, no matter how you misinterpret it.
2. Jerks are on both side.
3. Create the PHIW community and leave as alone finally with your insulting toxic attutide.
/drops the mic
hi, does the minion damage scales with your power ?
I’m definitely not a necro expert, but I don’t think the necro’s power affects minion damage. The wiki says they have a fixed amount of health and damage.
There are traits that increase the damage. I’m only using one of them (Vampire Master) in these test builds because that’s the way my son wanted to make the build.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Minion
A minion is an undead servant created by necromancers. A minion has a fixed amount of health and damage, which seems to be linked to the level of the necromancer, and will stay alive until damage destroys it which allows it to be re-summoned after any associated recharge.
Minions only inherit the necromancer’s Condition Damage, Condition Duration, and Boon Duration attributes.
Also, some boss attacks are negated when you stack on the wall
I keep hearing this, but no one wants to explain it. Ever. Examples?
and other skills do more damage against wall (fgs wasn’t the only case).
Whirlwind attack is another one and Acid bomb is the third but it can be canceled mid air. Enabling your thief and ranger in the party to properly flanking the enemy will result more damage output than let your warrior do two more ticks with WWA.
Staff guardians = overwriting longer duration mights
Argument is over.
For bosses and mobs you stack on a wall for, I would say dagger set is completely useless, just use s/p instead.
Why do you want to stack on a wall against bosses? FGS is nerfed for a looooooong time now.
Fiery Rush:
- Fiery Rush no longer generates fire fields if the character’s position does not change significantly (for example, running against a wall).
- The number of fire fields created by this skill has been reduced by 50%.
- Reduced damage of fire fields by 70%.
- This skill now ignores the movement penalties from chilled and crippled conditions.
- Increased damage of the leap attack by 140%.
Sneak peek:
Guardians use burning for damage, not direct damage, so the Staff will have the highest chances of proccing upgraded Virtue of Justice.
Guardian staff actually does decent damage […] against large mobs you’ll probably find you’d have more DPS with a staff than any other guard weapon.
The moment when i get cancer from a post and five seconds later it gets AIDS from another one … General discussion can be, ehm, very special sometimes.
So everyone has the right to play how they want is totally acceptable until it’s based on the meta? Thats what you Windsagio and Star Ace wants to suggest?
D/D is great against single targets. P/P is bad in every situation.
Against multiple mobs i suggest you sword/pistol. Pistol5 blinds 5 targets around you so you can cleave (hits up to 3 targets at once in front of you) them down with sword. Also sword #3 is a decent burst and evade in one skill which paired up with Signet of Malice can heal you from nearly 0 to full health in one go if you hit multiple targets.
Guides:

http://youtu.be/JGCxostKwAk
http://dulfy.net/2014/07/10/gw2-thief-pve-class-guide/
The reason we can’t have nice things, is because a looong time ago I posted that Necromancer needed more than cleave to be up to par to other professions, yet the majority opinion INSISTED that all we needed was cleave. Well we got cleave now. Happy?
Cleave that only hits up to 2 targets instead of 3 on a weapon that is designed to be single target so it’s still bad.
if anything this topic proves dailies have NOT gotten easier lol, whoever says that from now on should just take a peek in here xd
This topic only proves again how players are unaware of mechanics …
Use the free portals all around the game and you can travel across the map even if you only have a new lvl2 character.
/thread
Thank you kind sir. You have informed me that I should stop running around with my speed and loot weapon in open world, on a slow (mostly) melee class, to farm a small, chaotic map where events come and go in the blink of an eye.
-
Just for reference, many Guardians use burning for damage, not direct damage, so the Staff will have the highest chances of proccing upgraded Virtue of Justice. There is absolutely no requirement in open world to rely on direct damage, to run around in Berserker, Assassin or Rampager builds, and to use optimal weapons.
People play in the way that is easiest for them. It is not hurting you. Any pain that you feel as a result of their playing style is a placebo effect.
Between this and bell choir elitism, I have now seen it all …
It’s not really elitism. Fact is, you’re being ineffective and when there are only two people defending a falling fort, the Staff Guardian is literally doing nothing; not doing significant damage and not even getting any loot from the mobs.
I swear, this is the only game I’ve played where people WANT to be ineffective and just HATE to deal damage and kill things.
Neet to be quoted. And thats what others call the noob effect. Worth watching. ;D
Meta problem … Seriously how many thread you want to open and troll 20 pages long until you finally admit it’s a player issue which is generated by the ignorance of the PHIW crowd?
The second point is pretty misguided. You can find groups of almost any kind very quickly as long as you arent too restrictive. If people dont divide into sub communities then hostility and toxiciy becomes a major problem when players of different ideals meet. This happens currently when people ignore LFG descriptions. But when people do follow LFG descriptions its not an issue. So having sub communities is healthy as it prevents extra hostility between different types of players.
