Agree, it would be nice if there was a solo-mode for the dungeons if you are in a mind to do so. This is an MMO but all of the story content can be done solo, why not dungeons as well. +1 here. Good hunting.

well ty for ur answer but i already did it i waited for a long time no1 joined my group 1 time i did for ac 2 and 3 players left after second cutsence , also thats not the only points and imagin who would want to join arah for that .. also thats not the only point as i said we can exprience dungeons also check everywhere XD and idk it would be very nice

The whole lack of direct communication now has me feeling like the direction of the game itself might be in limbo and that is worrisome. Isn’t it odd that all these new hires and ads for specific people (one would associate with expansion like content) have hit so far down the road, 2 years in? I think to be honest the silence is a way to keep us all distracted from the truth, LS and rehashed holiday content is all that is on the horizon for a very long time and if they do lay out the roadmap the fear is that many will simply walk away and stop supporting the game.
Think about it and tell me you don’t draw the same conclusions at this point. Why the silence, why the lack of a roadmap, why the lack of specific answers regarding things like dungeons, classes, traits, races?

This seems really obvious oooor … Tinfoil hat time!
NCsoft told them to shut up until they release their newest cashcow (Wildstar) but it’s already out a few months and we can assume it failed a bit so i see absolutely no reason to not say anything. Beside your idea of course. Thats just a horrible scenario.

Even if they want to show us something amazing and big and woooooaaaaah it’s still makes no sense to not hype the hell out of it. Like an expansion. Or kitten mounts. Or whatever.

In which way it’s holding back the game? I only see see people hold back by their own ignorance who can’t let the trinity go.

ps: You can wear any other set beside berserker’s and assasin’s. It’s just a borderline exploit but you won’t get a ban for it.

Maybe I should take a video of a record run and do slow-motion narration of what is happening in key parts to show the detail of what is happening?

Do it man! Everytime the Abomination CC video came up in the past it was worthless (imo) to show to the inexperienced player since he/she saw only an encounter where nothing happens (due to defiant stripping and CC, but they oversee it anyway).
Explaining mechanics, how to counter them and do X instead of Y, what class is beneficial for a certain fight and so on.

Halve the damage of enemy attacks, and make enemies attack twice as often and you will find out what a world of a difference it will make.

This is flawed. See the Arah no dodges video – where people in full defensive gear unbind their dodge button and faceroll one of the most challenging dungeons in the game without much effort.

Tanking is already that strong in this game. Why would we want more of this faceroll easy mode situations?

I’m more and more tempted to run with my mesmers in these tanky groups so i can moa morph the boss to show them how great rapid attacks are.

No one in the dungeon subforum minds difficult content. However, most pugs can’t even melee spider queen. What will they do?

Happened two days ago.
- Stack on spider queen!
- Hurray finally a group who is up to date! (me)

Me going in circles gather spiders together, pop magnetic shield, put down aoes to kill those annoying bugs. Queen spawns, lava font, meteor shower, repositioning for Deep freeze and meanwhile i cast Ice storm i see they stand at the pillar aaaaand loading screen.

Oh boy, here we go again. Let me summarize your post.
Zerkers will become more damaging, tanky ones become more tanky AND can dodge more. Where is the logic and “solution” in this? Asking for a change just for the sake of changing isn’t a good idea in my opinion.
If full defensive builds wouldn’t be inbalanced enough while negating core mechanics of the game like dodge … Not to mention when you can simply AFK bosses with legit tactics.
But if you make berserker’s obsolete in some or every encounter there will be another meta. Like how soldier’s gear is highly recommended at Teq.

Can we merge these kind of threads into one? It’s starts to get boring when someones open a new topic every day.

I’m suspecting you didn’t read my post, because you completely missed my point, which was that defensive stats are useless only because defensive utilities and support is too strong. Thus, tying those mechanics to defensive stats gives those stats actual use and viability.

My suggestion doesn’t make defensive builds more defensive, it makes it so players need to specifically spec to use defensive utilities and supports to their fullest, while also making it so players need to specifically build boons and conditions into their build if they want to have them; they aren’t just freely given.

Please go read my post and give me actual criticism.

I did, thats why i replied. Sorry if you don’t like it.
The only part i ignored, but luckily others pointed out that most of these design decisions go against completely ANet’s vision of the combat system. What i mean you are independent from your gear and not need to specialize with it for any roles.
I highly suggest you to search for previous threads (we got like 3-4 last week again) and educate yourself with the same issues with the same replies we suggest. Every. Week.

PvE is incapable of ever requiring skill so it’s pointless to change it.

Dungeon players don’t like that they aren’t going to get anything new, but at least they KNOW they aren’t getting anything new. That’s an assurance the rest of us don’t have, and one we desperately need.

Yes, this is correct. When I see comments like “there’s nothing new to do” or “we need fresh content” it just occurred to me to ask if you’re taking LW into account, if you see that as new content and pretty significant chunks of it, at that. (Admittedly, it may not be what you personally have requested, but if the statement is “there’s nothing new” that doesn’t seem quite right.)

Thanks everyone for not barking at me when I asked the question. Again, the question was not “is it enough?” I really was pointing to it to ask for your impressions of the concept and the execution as continuing, new content in an ever-changing world.

I was under the impression that LS releases are a given thing for a while until you (ANet) decide to not make LS content anymore. So i would say nope, it doesn’t count since it’s acts as filler content between serious releases (feature packs, possible expansions) but the problem is that those are seriously lacking in stuff that improves gameplay in any way.

Feature packs were mostly QoL fixes (hence the name) and LS simply can’t put out meaningful content in it’s current form. What i mean as a PvE player it provides little to no replayability if you go through the story (it’s a one time thing) and done with achievements (one time too obviously).

WvW and especially sPvP are almost completely excluded from these updates, but these modes require completely different fixes, additions and overhauls which has nothing to do with the LS at all. Thats the reason why players from those gamemodes are frustrated because all they see is LS, LS and again, LS releases meanwhile the actuall target audience, the PvE players are neglected as well.

The other frustrating thing i see, but maybe it’s just a personal opinion, that the game is still really sPvP oriented with balance and promotions (e-sports, tournaments, etc.) meanwhile releasing PvE updates. What do you actually want? A PvP game with additional casual PvE elements or a great PvE game with casual PvP elements? Both can’t happen. Though i personally find the PvE aspect of the game more promising compared to the competitor games, but thats a different topic …

tl;dr: Living story on it’s own doesn’t cut it. The game and the playerbase needs additional and serious content updates on a regular (1-2 years) base to keep engaged.

On a side note, does anyone else have the feeling that ANet take a look on their metrics and see “Wow every player plays the LS, so it’s succesfull. Great, no expansion for them.” meanwhile everybody plays it just to do something else finally? It’s refreshing after doing something new, even if it’s badly implemented or just boring. A few hour worth of content is still something. I guess. Opinions? (don’t want to derail, just food for tought)

Many people have the impression LW is a failed concept that binds resources but is not able to deliver a large amount of content. This is burned-in very deep in many heads. It will be very hard to correct this impression.

Very good summary. This is indeed the general consensus I hear from other long-time players. Giving us a clue as to what sorts of things LS plans provide would go a long way. Again, not story, but content.

This reminds me the review by Angry Joe (relevant part from 1:05). Yeah it’s great if we have a nice story, flashy graphics and so on but this game is an MMO. You play the content. You play for fun or more specifically engagement. Even if you manage to do great content (you did, no doubt) after 2 years without any significant changes or releases with problematic “features” (cough fractal loot cough) it becomes stale day by day.

The other very relevant video is about the “noob effect” which couldn’t be more offensive as it is, but i highly suggest you Gaile to watch it and think about what it try to tell.

A lot of us strictly mentioned that we know you have a dedicated team of ~70 (?) people for making LS content. The question that bothers everybody that what the heck the rest of the company do if you have 300+ employee? We get it there are a lot of art, design, audio, community, whatnot members but somewhere, someones doing something, right?

I thought about 20 devs were working on LS, not 70 o.O

They merged the 4 LS teams when season 2 started.

Alerno — Taking what you have (and everyone else has) put on the table I do wonder something. I want to ask, and hope nobody will bite my head off here.

You mention wanting to know there will be more to the game. The new and continuing episodes of the Living World count towards that, right? The fact that players know there’s a team working on new content and features, and that there are releases on a regular basis? I fully understand that may not fulfill every desire, but it does show a continuing commitment to “new stuff” for us players, wouldn’t you agree?

Do some hints and oh boy the hype will rip off the roof.

Game saga, as in story, should not be shared with customers. Nuts and bolts about added zones, professions, weapons, skills, races, new types of content (e.g., Guild raids), etc. should be shared ahead of time with customers. Perhaps management should consider which scenario is worse:

  1. Players complaining when something is discussed and then has to be put on hold or cancelled. Bear in mind that if the postponement or cancellation is discussed openly, reasonable players will accept this. Those who are unreasonable won’t.
  2. Players complaining because they have no clue as to what’s coming and the company will not say. Both reasonable players and unreasonable players will complain about this.

I in no way think that Anet is required to talk about planned content, but I do think it would be a better business decision to do so. Build-up of consumer enthusiasm matters in the entertainment industry. Sure, there are times when anticipation leads to disappointment, but no anticipation can and does lead to loss of interest.

When things like this needs to be discussed in the forums is like … I don’t know, i’ll just quote myself.

I wish Arenanet would be an inexperienced, indie team made of freshly graduated youngsters instead of a 14 year old company filled with veterans so i could forgive this to them. :/

You forgot to mention the introduction of ascended tier despite exotic being the highest item tier which “everyone should be able to get when reaching lvl80”. Yet ANet wondered players got in full exotics when the reached level cap … Logic?

It’s ironic how the berserker’s stat is the only viable stat, almost in the whole game, still there’s a huge diversity of gear attributes that could enhance the gameplay quality.

Healing power is almost useless, etc.. We don’t need the holy trinity, we just need the freedom to choose how our caracter will play. For instance, I would like to be capable to heal my teammates decently with a ele, even if that meant that my dps would be almost “invisible”, or that I could do a tanky build with my warrior and in fact help the rest of the players and don’t feel useless

If so, then my sense is that you want to know more about the nuts and bolts.

  • “Are you looking at XXX new feature?”
  • “Do you intend to improve ABC functionality?”
  • “Is ### working as intended, or is it bugged, or will you incorporate player feedback to change it?”

Again, this is a small part of the discussion, but I wanted to make sure I was looking at that part accurately. I wondered if generally, no one is asking about the whole “Tell us where the story is going” bit.

Honestly i’m scared that you asked this as a community lead when you actively participated in a lot of discussion and possibly lurked in a lot thread.
You should know this what the previous 2 pages are all about (not asking for the direction of story) and what many other threads discussed in the past months.

Off topic but what’s the story behind the “add necro class” box?

Necro being so bad it’s not considered as a class in PvE for a while. Based on some changes i start to feel Necromancer is intended to be a mob but somehow bugged out and became a playable profession. Oo

Hey. I’m fast approaching my first level 80, an elementalist. I haven’t done much dungeons as most of the groups wanted max level or players with lots of AP. I’ve been using a staff to level so I could easily kite melee and are now not sure what I should use. What weapon do you recommend for dungeons? Thanks for advice

More of my thoughts:

Just farmed the heck out of SW.

Did just fine in Soldier’s gear. Others did just fine in Berserker’s gear.

Stop fighting. Go have fun.

But you started the whole argument with this thread … Oo

I didn’t want it to turn out like this, though.

I just wanted some people to come out and talk about how to fix the two extremes (Zerk extremists and anti-meta extremists)

Probably the best way to fix it would be for some dungeon paths to have different optimal setups. They would still have a “path meta,” there’s no avoiding that, and that’s fine. However, there are things that could be done to give different dungeon paths different speedrun metas rather than 5-zerk. Mechanics that force a longer fight inherently favor other gear setups, for example. Karka, Husks, or other high-toughness mobs would result in one or two of the zerkers getting replaced with condition builds as another possibility while not artificially limiting speedruns like timed events would.

But thats not diversity it’s outright excluding certain styles and gear sets for no apparent reason. World bosses are enough for this.
