Even doing speedruns of AC at 15 minutes apiece

doing speedruns 15 minutes apiece

speedruns

ok

Please stop with that highly offensive bashing attitude. You are new and join into experienced groups and willfully ignore our advice to search for likeminded people to have casual slow paced runs until you get more experience with dungeons in general. After 15 runs of course you are not bored to death. Do it for 2 years and you’ll see it you’ll be in the same situation as we are.
Now please leave the discussion if are unable to stop with bashing our community.

Personally, I think people are either scared that speedrunning is going to be taken away, or they are just plain afraid of change, so it’s easier for them to argue that there shouldn’t be an alternative.

I think that the problem is they’re worried that if speedrunning is taken away, it will increase the amount of time it takes to farm dungeons, when my suggestion is (ultimately) not to take away speedrunning, it’s really a suggestion to increase the level/rate of dungeon rewards for everyone else to take away the allure of speedruns…

You just want more gold with low effort tactics while farming a single path, i get it, all of us get it. Thank you, but we don’t like it.

Those that believe gaming is about running dungeons over and over to farm for gold are the ones that are ruining the era of video games, not the other way around…..

Do you believe speedrunning dungeons for highest gold/hr rate is what constitutes “actually playing the game”? If so, that’s what’s sad.

Btw.:
http://wildstarreport.com/2014/09/03/wildstar-omni-core/

In the true sense of their motto; “The Devs are Listening” Frost discussed how Carbine is regularly looking at and analyzing gameplay analytics. These analytics are focused on playtime, content and reward loop feedback, all of which have shifted their focus from high end content to solo gameplay. Statistics are showing the majority of Wildstar players enjoy solo play instead of larger raids which really caught Carbine developers off guard

That’s quite surprising indeed.

What exactly is your point though? xD

Wildstar attracted the wrong audience that they didn’t expected. This happens when you try to make a serious hardcore oriented MMO and it fills up with casuals.

Raids in a game with no tank or healers, what do you expect ? instead of 4 warriors and a mes, it will be 8 warriors and 2 mes if 10 man. Will be a total Zerg fest what else can it be ?

That was true in 2012 however the year is currently 2014, sorry. And please don’t spout such false statements if you …
1. Never stepped out from CoF.
2. Never played dungeons in the past 2 years.
3. Both.

Removing the tank and healer removed a lot when it comes to mechanics to gameplay.

Now you rely on yourself and not exclusively on 2 other dudes to keep your rear bottom safe.

The largest thing I feel is missing ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE from what I have seen in Guild Wars 2 is AI. Boss AI as well as overall enemy AI in this game is very lacking. I really don’t know if this is just due to game design but I feel like certain systems would have to be specifically crafted / redesigned for raiding to be truly effective.

I keep hearing that without any proper feedback what the AI really lacks. Care to elaborate?

Target of target is another important one here. I feel like I missed / wanted this the most while doing dungeons and I really hope we see it during raiding. Being able to tell what an enemy is looking at and being able to act accordingly is amazing.

Watch the environment not the UI. That was the goal of GW2 combat since the beginning.

I would say the one thing to take from other MMOs is to make raid bosses large enough to know where they are at all times; even if they are humans etc. This is kind of the part where gameplay > aesthetics.

While bigger bosses would be generaly a better idea the main issue with the visibility of animations is the massive amount of particle effects (guardian F1 for example is totally overdone and pointless).

I feel like most of the dungeons use one shot mechanics with dodging etc and I wonder if this is really the path you guys are wanting to take with raiding. While having the res downed people feature is nice I don’t think we should be getting tastes of it every 5 seconds while raiding.

I keep hearing that without proper examples all the time. Care to elaborate? Of course if you are on a squishy ele it’s more of a problem than on a warrior.

While I completely support the idea of having people able to choose their role in dungeons its obvious that current content focuses on just dps[…]

And there goes your credibility. False statements and logical fallacies as always.

We see with bosses like Tequatl that we still have the need for roles, we have just masked what a role is by putting people on turrets, bumping up the total to 2, but still leaving out the tank. What we have next is a boss that doesn’t move or target anyone and just stands in place so the dps can attack it.

Defending teams. Just sayin’. Tanks are for removing the threat from the dps players so they can safely damage the enemy (omg it’s all about dps too, who would expect that?!)

I really think it would be nice if we had people wanting to spec mostly heals or mostly defense for these raids. Of course they would still dps and make use of their 1-5s, they would be full support and we would actually have a use for the healing sigils etc.

That can be done in whatever gear you have with proper gameplay. Combo fields and finishers are there for a reason as well other weapons too like guardian hammers for perma protection. But yeah, ignore everything again.

I could probably go on all day about specific ideas for raid encounters but I think I’ll hold back.

Thanks, you lack proper knowledge about the game anyway and you are emotionally biased as well.

Post FGS nerf and with the damage buff of rangers every class is wanted and useful, except necromancers. That class is objectively lacks behind in every possible aspect compared to others. Get your facts right.

I dont care if its a dungeon or not – we need new 5 player challenges. In Season 1 of the LS, this was present in the form of things like Molten Facility, Aetherblade Retreat, the Scarlett instance in the Pavillion, the Canach/Golem fight cave in Southsun and the trials during the election. While none of these were permanent, they were important because they kept 5-player groups engaged.

The new living story model doesnt seem to include anything like these instances.

Personally, I would like to see them add one 5-player mini-instance alongside each biweekly release they are doing with the main living story instances in November. Make them short and challenging – and at the end of the season, pull them all together and drop them in as a new fractal. That way, we have constant new 5-player content just as were getting the single player content now.

But than people would complain that they have to play with others … :/

My armor and weapon is completely berserk, but I have 1 knight ring (Ettinband: toughness instead of ferocity) and the backpiece is soldier and the rest is berserk.
It seems to me that this, combined with the build, is my personal sweet spot between going down not too often and still dealing decent damage. I tried everything berserk and less water magic for more damage, but I went down significantly more often. Especially water X with its instant party-wide condition removal with no casting time (just attune to water) is a life saver in many situations.

Placebo and learn to play issues. That amount of toughness does almost nothing in your defense. It’s like ~5% damage reduction. Using the appropriate potion already gives you 10% damage reduction. You speaking about how he should go full nuts and blow up everything and you don’t even utilize it.

Dodge, blocks, invulnerabilities work well for me (read: negate 100% incoming damage, potentially from multiple sources). Time it better mate.
Often is not equal to never. Work for it and you can use it. Mindlessly spamming should be punished as it happens now and admit it, other games opportunity windows are just lame and lazy. On the other hand CC should have more incentive to use.

One of the problems with GW2's "soft trinity"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dalanor.5387

Dalanor.5387

The problem is failing to let go of the idea (picked up in other games) that gear determines your role in the game. GW2 was designed so that dedicated roles are not a thing in PvE. Gear is just another aspect of the character building system, not a determining factor.

So zerker is meaningless for DPS?

I think what you said is more true for GW2 than say WoW, but gearing is still impactful on your role. So you could wear Giver’s armor for DPS and yeah you could still DPS but you wouldn’t be as good as a character in Zerker’s.

Relative levels of effectiveness aside, GW2 is designed so that everyone in any build can and probably does do damage. Damage is not a role, it’s something that everyone does. In the same way, support is not a role, nor is control. You can enter an encounter prepared to provide more of A, B or C. You can also restrict yourself to mostly A, B or C. That’s a viable — but certainly not optimal — choice.

I wish ANet had not removed the old blog on healing. It was the source of the “GW2 trinity” assumptions. What it actually said was something more along the lines of damage, support and control being things that players do during the natural course of play. It certainly did not promise dedicated roles, yet that’s what most of the posts like the OP’s are really about.

I agree with everything you wrote — it’s the lack of roles that many people find disappointing. Roles required a minimum of teamwork to execute. You can use the Trinity as a classic example of roles, or create a new set of roles. It doesn’t matter, it’s the point that roles add depth to the game. It’s not as satisfying without them.

The combat system in GW2 is nice (best in any MMO I’ve seen) but it is quite shallow. There’s little complexity or depth to it. The lack of roles and required team work contributes heavily to this result.

You can execute combos as a team but they are hardly required, and definitely not necessary for success. If they were, it would enforce a degree of team work and coordination that would be very rewarding upon success. Some teams would fail (and should) but that’s the nature of challenging and rewarding content.

I agree with most of what you said except the lack of role, there is role in GW2, they aren’t necessary but they exist.

When I join a party, I expect the guardian to use Aegis, Reflect, condi cleanse just like I expected my tank to keep the aggro, it’s a different role, but it’s still one. I expect my warrior to run Banners, give might and fury. Thief using stealth, blind, blasting combo field etc. Instead of being forced into a healer, tank, dps role, you choose which class you want to play which role. Right now every class can be useful (except maybe necro which aren’t as useful as other classes)

Teamwork is useful in gw2 to be efficient, most people won’t like the example I’m about to post but look at how everyone know what they have to do, Warrior CC’ing abomination, thief using black powder, everyone throwing a blast, guardian using reflect and aegis at the right time, elementalist using swirling winds. The amout of coordination in this run is insane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmmBAQzfSF4

Exactly my point — the roles aren’t necessary. As a result, role-based team coordination is not required. Some situations require team work like the platforms in a dredge fractals for example. Those are great imho because it requires something other than mindless key mashing.

I love the combat system in GW2, I just think it’s shallow without the required roles.

Casuals (not as an offensive word now) already complain a lot about the combat (see this thread). If you make these existing roles required basically you make everything else truly obsolete but berserkers and kazuls would flip the table. And unable to do the content. They already can’t manage half of that, what would happen if a fight requires high uptime and capped might, vuln, other conditions, proper aegis rotation, whatnot?
Well it was a little exaggeration but you get my point.

stuff

Or how about stop ranting, take a deep breath and think for 1-3 seconds.
Off hand mace has the same duration stun (though not an area effect, just in straight line) as a hammer and you can deal better damage with your main hand axe. Win win.
PHIW’s should understand that the game has 3 different game modes with 3 different type of encounters and enemies which requires different aproaches. Some stuff is better here and other ones are better there. Think. Not successful 100% of the time but only takes 1-3 seconds.

Also no one forces you to not use a hammer in your party apart from meta oriented groups of course, so you can stun your way through the content while your team mates deal the damage.

Your mileage may vary, but personally I found that they strongly encourage build diversity. Can you kill each of them as a cookie-cutter zerker warrior? Sure, if you play right. Is it easier to deal with ones suited to your build? Definitely.

If i kill them with the same “cookie-cutter” build on zerker ele (see? im awsum!) how it encourage build diversity? They just blow up as every other mob except the ones with retaliation so i need to kill them one by one to not kill myself. Or just go down and lava font finishes the job anyway. =]
Or when the new inquest mobs get “better” AI and everybody praised how great they move away from the player. Yeah, great, 2 seconds later they come back to the meatgrinder anyway.

What GW2 really could use, is variety designs for mobs, not just mobs that melts in 1-3 seconds under berserker DPS build groups.

Use your actual favourite PHIW build. Win.

99% of content are not supposed to melt in 1-3 seconds under 1 build, never.

Luckily its not even true.

Of course, you should be able to complete dungeons with any build, but atleast it’d be nice if using any build has potential to create results to match equally every other build in 100% of PvE content, and not limit 99% of the mobs for full berserker DPS builds, and give other builds just 1%.

I’m sure you can complete the content with every build. Whats your problem? Apart from being ignorant, PHIW and hurt at the rear bottom?

Gw2 combat system is actually quite nice, it has some problems here and there but overall it’s a new neat idea that has huge potential. The problem is the dungeon design, the “only zeker, stack in corner” is the most effective way of doing them atm and it’s peer enforced rather than content enforced. Introducing the “old trinity” isn’t a solution, reinforcing the current trinity might be a better solution, you know the damage-control-support.

This looks pretty effective too for me. Cleric OP, needs nerf.

Guild wars 2 game design failed in the end.

With a start like this it’s hard to take you seriously, but i’ll bite it.

Everyone has full berserker gear, they don’t accept guardians with shield and mace, warriors with shield and sword, they don’t even accept thief with dual pistol in dungeons, because everyone wants melee full zerk so they can stack on a corner and kill everything.

My personal experience differs. I had a LOT of players geared otherwise even if i stricktly said in the LFG i want berserker / meta oriented players. Also it has nothing do to with ANet. It’s completely understandable that people don’t like to waste 1-2 hours in a 10 minute long dungeon and not everyone have more than 1-2 hours to play anyway.

That concludes that Guild wars 2 combat mechanic and roles failed, hard. Every game that doesn’t have the “holy trinity” will fail, Guild wars 2 is the experiment, unfortunately!

Yeah, well, you know, thats just like your opinion man.

I have to conclude that the Dungeons were made just to get some players to buy the game, because in the end the game failed and people changed game, but that doesn’t matter, because arenanet already has their money.

GW2 was advertised as a PvP oriented game since pre-launch, but MMO games usually has a PvE aspect which includes dungeons. It shouldn’t be a surprise IF you do some research instead of mindlessly buy stuff.

After 2 years of game, the dungeons continue to have brutal exploits, no tactics and the roles don’t exist. The abilities most of the classes have are mostly for PvP, which concludes that Guild wars 2 is a PvP game with a small and unfinished PvE content.

Sure, this shows how utterly frustrated and uninformed you are and you shouldn’t be taken seriously. Also this is from a year ago.

Fotm is dying and i’m leaving this game soon if nothing happens to the only challenging dungeon in the game!

I can almost never get a dungeon party in lfg, due to “lvl 80, zerk, 5k AP” requirements.

This is a massive turn off to me as a newbie for doing one of the majorly fun aspects of MMO’s that I enjoy (Dungeons).

With this in mind, I’d like to propose a dungeon mentoring system, wherein a level 80 character can accompany a level X character (relative to the dungeon) and obtain various rewards for assisting the lower levelled players in getting their daily chests. Perhaps introduce a “mentor point” system, where 80’s can obtain points, similar to the karma system, to redeem for unique rewards

I feel a system like this would help introduce players to dungeons better, and allow new players to actually get in to dungeons without belonging to a guild, rather than the persistent demand for 80’s only.

1. Using the LFG tool to make your own group is not an exploit nor bannable offense.

Without reworking the squad and party systems (think about boons and such) it won’t be possible. With the hybrid like classes however it’s just stupid, they should go with regular 5 man dungeons and / or Fractals. Later one can be aimed towards more “hardcore” players since the skill ceiling is rather low in dungeons.

And as others already said ANet won’t develop instanced content for a while sooo find something else until they release something one day. Maybe. Probably. But probably not.

So, does anyone on here play CS:GO or Dota 2 in EU? I haven’t touched another game ever since I started GW2 but I’m growing sad of all the changes that are being introduced. Might go back to Dota for some “your life is mine now!” action.

Do it mate. Or try out Hearthstone, it’s surprisingly fun!

Lets be real.

Ah yes, these mythical one shot bosses. Oh wait, rarely any of them one shot. Most of them hit like noodles.

Try being new at the game. Asking questions on what to do gets you the boot. Apparently dungeons are only for players that have had the game since it’s release.

Please redirect those players to me. I always got silent or stubborn ones who are try to be smartkittens with 200 AP.

If Anet doesn't add new dungeons...

Dungeons should be like the open world zones unto themselves.

I don’t care if they’re instanced or not – I like both styles (open world and instanced), but in size and scope every dungeon should have been built the same as an entire open world map/zone.

Something like Arah?

"Downed State" frightening for new players?

So what exactly is Anet doing besides making it easier for everyone to get into their game?

Delaying the Downed State to level 5 doesn’t solve the problem. If there are confused players, there should be an interactive tutorial that teaches people about the game mechanic. Once the tutorial is created, it should be put back in front of the focus group for testing.

When people enter PvP for the first time, they’re sent to a starting area where they learn game mechanics like using a finisher and claiming territory. I don’t see why the devs couldn’t add a similar tutorial for PvE.

Anet tested it and said that got the best results. So it obviously solves the problem for someone.

I’m starting to really feel depressed about the QA team mental capabilities …
