The game is really stale when even average pugs caught up with speedclear guilds. Changes are definitely needed.

You perform group content, and don’t fulfill the wishes of the group. They had every right to kick you. If you’d rather be selfish and run your own little build than help your group, you probably shouldn’t be doing content with parties.

In group content try to not be a selfish kitten. Your playstyle doesn’t matter. Be a good soldier and do your job.

Zerker Only Parties

I just hit 80 on my thief and was running out of gold so to save some money I bought a mix of assassins and berserker armor/weapons with Ogre runes, Sigil of Air/Accuracy, etc. I never make zerk only groups but have joined plenty. All my other toons are full zerk(w/ scholars) so I have never been kicked from a dungeon on those guys, but wondering if it will happen on this one.

Just curious on people’s experiences with zerker only LFG’s. How far off “zerker meta” do people have to be to get kicked from these things? I am sure it varies, but wondering what people have seen accepted and not accepted in these groups.

Don’t run in assasin gear on thief, because just by the traits you get a lot of crit chance anyway (Keen observer 5%, Side strike 7%, Flanking strikes 5% + Fury 20%), Disc. banner, Spotter and foods increase it even further.
As for runes, ruby is a lot cheaper option than Ogre and it has 0% chance to screw up things without that random minion spawn.
The rest is just a matter of time and gold.

edit: totally forgot about signet of agility with additional ~8%

I’d rather list what I don’t want from future dungeons.

  • Unskippable cutscenes: I don’t care how pretty they are, the fact that you’re assuming I want to watch them once is cute, because I don’t. The fact that you assume I’d want to watch them every time I do your dungeon, without giving me an option to cop out, is insulting.
  • Unskippable dialogue: by the same token, I’m not interested in Caithe’s PMS-y whining about Scarlet. Nor am I interested in what Graham and Rox think about anything. I hate NPC’s and what they have to say. The fact that I’m losing time every time I run a dungeon because you thought I was moved by your story is quite frustrating.
  • Time gates: time gating can be done well in small doses. Arah p3 ritual (to some degree, it’s not good, but it isn’t bad either), CoF p3 defend, Snowblind campfire… All those things are acceptable time gates. They are a semi-engaging encounter that doesn’t take all too long. Examples of bad time gates: Arah p4 Grenth, AC p3 burrows… I don’t want to be forced to spend a fixed amount of time that is frustratingly long doing a boring event.
  • Too many kitten puzzles: case in point: Aetherpath.
  • Losing progress: never forget.
  • Bosses with lame immunity mechanics: Southsun “dungeon”, anyone?
  • Unblockable attacks: I don’t mind all too much that they made Malrona unreflectable, I get why they did it, but it frustrates me to no end that you can’t even block the attacks anymore. This is just an example, the new Fractals are full of attacks that are unblockable. I don’t like to be forced to memorize every kitten move in your game that can or can’t be blocked. We need consistency, not some random “will my aegis save me this time, or will I be kittened?” bullkitten.
  • Undodgeable attacks: just, no.
  • More gear gates: I liked that you could progress in old fractals without proper AR, because only on Maw did you need it, and your buddies could save you. Right now, if you want to progress, you better have the proper AR, or you’re not going to be able to progress. The fact that passive effects like AR are favored over skilled gameplay is frankly insulting.

That’s most of the stuff that comes to mind right now. Could be forgetting something.

+1 for you Sir.

However i would add that we don’t need any more NPC’s in dungeons. Spire, Varra and similar characters cause more trouble than they should.

Golds from dungeon is killing the economy

I believe this may be a troll thread (no offense) but what evidence is there that Dungeon gold is “killing the economy?” Because someone thinks so it is so? Seems like a post to stir up Dungeon lovers for its own sake, OR someone begrudging others the way they have chosen to enjoy the game.

I actually have not seen huge shifts in the economy for a while, though perhaps I am not buying as much as of late. Mats seem to be stable-“rare” mats still priced as expensive as they used to be, and more common mats according to the “Ascended demand”. Globs of ectoplasm have been priced similarly for many months by now, for instance.

Can u name me another other source gold being directly inject into the economy other than dungeon that can generate up to 5g+ a hour per person out of no where, just by running 4 ez path.

Buying gems with real currency and converting those gems into gold.

“If i need stealth i….” The point is that the main thing you always need is DPS. Would be really great if you could mix it with some toughness.

It’s all about DPS and it would be nice to also bring some toughness around.

that is however what seems to be the main requirement in the game, DPS and some toughness if possible

Grammar. It suggested wishful thinking, correcting yourself after the 4th time is a bit too late, but whatever. At least now i understand what you meant. It’s pug perception, they want heavy classes mostly, because they are dumb and want to ensure a good run, since those two classes have more room for error.

With this and your above mentioned questions about your own class it’s truly obvious you never had a proper good run as a ranger and most likely you get kicked thanks to your class anyway. No offense. Am i right? I can count on my one hand how many proper SSS ranger i’ve met in pugs.

Strawman at it’s finest. I could say the same about your Wolfenstein example. Medic can heal, yeah, but who cares, you just shoot the enemy anyway and the whole game is about pew pew. See? I can dumb it down too if i wanted to.

To your latest post.
Tactics solved months ago =/= non-existent tactics. Think about it. If you run the content for a gazillion of times, it becomes so trivial, your muscle memory will solve it.
The only thing we would both agree i guess, is the nerf of FGS. It’s such a powerful tool in the hands of the most dumbest player too, it ain’t fun anymore.

I still can’t see why your examples are better, especially Pokemon with it’s rock-paper-scissor mechanics.

You should solve the situation by yourself as a ranger. Your party lacks fury? Get a red moa. The party lacks might? Get a jungle stalker. Need condi removal? Almighty brown bear becomes handy. Get it?
Ranger =/= archer.
He is a ranger too.
The sad thing even Anet made a bad marketing with the class and suggested at the character creation that they are bow oriented, meanwhile the whole game punishes ranged damage (less risk -> less damage), especially rangers longbow and mesmer GS.

@Jerus & Errant

In other games gear threadmill was always an issue, but going with the same analogy the majority of dungeons here are like in other MMO’s when you run it on a outgeared hybrid class. After you reach a certain gear treshold in other games (and routine with the encounters of course) it becomes trivial. I had planty of pug HC dungeon runs in WoW when DPS characters tanked the whole instance, because they had so OP gear it doesn’t mattered anymore.

@Dual
Ahh, that makes more sense now. Can you show me a proper example of your idea? Another game is fine too and youtube link is appreciated.

@Devata
If you aren’t “zerging and DPSing” what do you do personally? Stand still? I’m pretty sure you deal damage thus DPSing. But lets step aside from that.
If you aren’t “zerging” you already wear a more tanky gear set and based on your comments you don’t play a meta build either so, where is the tactic? Ranging? Hahh, no. Melee in immortal tanky builds? What? What do you do exactly? Use this editor, i’m seriously curious.

I don’t do anything as there is nothing to do. Thats the whole point. Isn’t is. So strange question.

My main is a ranger so how can I make use of my (as ranger) specialties to help the group in tactical play. What is my specialty that the team likes to make use of?

Ranged is any required ‘tactic’ in this game. It could be depending on how you design bosses and content but it isn’t.

Going back to the Wolfenstein ET example. Yeah obviously everybody does damage but you also have your own specialties the group needs. The engineer helps to clear the route to the target by blowing up walls or other blockades. Sometimes even blowing up the target. The Field Ops makes sure everybody has enough ammo and also gives support fire (letting a plane drop some bombs). The medic helps people up and get the to 100% HP again. The soldier is there to support in your heavy fire also useful to attack enemy vehicles or clearing an area (flame thrower). Lastly there is Covert Ops who is for your more precise attacks. Using a sniper or steal an enemy identity letting you inside enemy building without having to blow up the entrance.

Of course there are many more examples of other games. Another good example is commandos (1 – 3) there also every class has it’s obvious specialties / role. Now that makes teamwork interesting. So again there is not problem in doing something else as the holy trinity as that reduces the whole combat to 3 roles… Oow and also then there are many classes (what some people now here try to sell as roles but really isn’t) but basically there are 3 roles. Healer, Tank and DPS.

So you bashing the game without playing it? Great. You can leave my internetz now.

ps: Comparing a multiplayer option of an FPS to a instanced PvE content of a MMO is genius Sir. Play the game and you will see the roles and what is the job of every class and build. I’m sure a purehearted lovely person would invite you to a more organized party to show how the game works outside of the pug meta.

pps: Ranger is a great class and have great tools to help at the encounters, but you obviously aren’t familiar with them. Reflects, various buffs and utlities with pets if needed, a blast finisher, aoe swiftness, pure DPS boosts with Spotter and Frost spirit, beastly burst potantial thanks to Signet of Wild, 12 second of invulnerability if needed, nice mobility, a fairly long firefield for prestacking, etc.

@Dual
Give proper examples, because “make a better encounter” isn’t enough. Either the mob hit harder or faster or both, therefore you encourage tanky gear. Sure, you are right in that matter that if you are good enough as a team you can still succed, but that would just boil down to the same concept as we have now. Get proper builds, get banners and other buffs, might stack, position and FGS stuff to death if you need heavy burst. But here you would simply punish not so good parties with the above things i wrote, right? Because currently the lack of punishment is one of the reasons that makes the content easy and of course it’s old and players run trough it a million times. So you get it.

So give an example, because your idea of, let me quote:

In other words, rather than simple stat changes to mobs, they need new attack patterns, new AI, wider access to skills and other combat facets like boons, evades and debuffs.

It doesn’t cut it. New AI? How? Wider acces to skills? Well that could be good, Lupi and Liadri imo is a great example to this. Boons and debuffs can be removed, so i don’t see it as an improvement, except if they can’t be removed, but thats just dumb isn’kitten Evades can be good, but if the mob just spams it randomly (pirate crew in the gauntlet) it’s worthless. This kind of idea is playhowiwant not the challange, because it suggests another generic “lets nerf the crap out of zerkers and make my playstyle aka tanking optimal” idea. Sorry if i misunderstood you.

I’m not sure this status symbol thing would be a thing ever in this game, since Anet want to treat everyone with this “everybody is equal” stuff, hell even legendaries can be bought with gold … Oh one exception, the SAB tribulation skins, but that content suited for solo play more or less.
And as i wrote above, the reward shouldn’t be better than other options, since the “non-elite” players would demand it and cry about why certain part of the playerbase can earn more and they don’t (see: legit path sellers). If you make it less rewarding than it should be, it won’t worth the effort and you made Fractals 2.0, but prestige items would have a value for a while like TA Aether weapon drops.

ps: Archdiviner and Mossman on higher scales actually similar to your idea. It can be punishing (party wipe) for lesser skilled groups (if they actually fight with them and dont use safe spots) or better ones just steamroll over them. But i’m not sure you tought about this kind of challange.

@Bezagron
Healing power and boon duration increase certain active abilities effect, which can be great if you build for it. My favourite pre-patch vid about how tanky builds are viable. And how vitality and toughness should improve anything beside armor and health pool which are passive stats? More importantly, why?
Gear and thus stats are balancing out your own survival vs. your damage output so you can gear yourself up with a set that suits your skill level. If you are good enough, go full offensive, if you need some backup, use knights or a few soldier pieces. Get it?

Again, a nonsense idea against legit path sellers … Envy?
Btw blind, aegis, blocks, invulnerability, projectile defense etc still negates 100% incoming damage and the combination of protection and weakness reduce damage by a lot too, so whats the point of increasing mob damage? It’s just dumb. Overwhelm the instance with unvadoidable damage is dumb and lazy solution. Discriminating really good players by locking the instance is just rude. Stop with the playhowiwant attitude pls.

@Dual
Making every possible damage source to a 50k+ instagib isn’t hard mode nor interesting. Thats why i said it’s artifical challange (cough fractals cough) and by itself isn’t enough. Forcing players to wear tanky gear to handle content is lame and simoltaneously it slows down encounters for no reason.
Protection, slaying potions, blinds, weakness, blocks etc. would help a lot still, so meh …
Skipping is great! Why? First of all, you aren’t forced to do it, except in Arah thats just a pain in the rear end. Second it’s extremely rewarding to do it, because you finish the dungeon faster (no drop -> no point to kill them). Third, i find it great that GW2 utilize movement skills in the content.

For your latest post. If Anet makes such content, it shouldn’t be more rewarding than other options more accesible to “casuals” because it would make them cry. That way the rewards should be in line or worse, so after the initial novelty wears off, people will abandon it. Fractals says hi!

@Bezagron
Move out from AC please. In my opinion, 1 shot skill is which kills you in 1 shot, but luckily we have only a handful of these. Of course it depends on your class a lot, since Ele die from a sneeze, while warrior can eat a few here and there, even the most devastating ones.

Question. Give me a reason why should i stack defensive stats (even if they would scale better) when active defenses negates damage by 100% from multiple sources often for a few seconds meanwhile it enables to wear full offensive gear and finish the content faster?

@Lian
The choice is … make your own groups and you can tank in PVT all day long with likeminded people. And stop with this misinformation, i usually spend 20-30 minutes to find an actual full berserker party (and they can be still traited badly …), meanwhile countless casual parties get filled. Make. Your. Own. Group.

@Dual
Then you just make and artifical challange and force more tanky gear on everyone and remove risk immediately. Balance mate, think about balance.
Elite players are bored anyway, anywhere. The average player is the majority of the playerbase or the less skilles ones. A lot of people still can’t understand how the game could be played (combo fields, proper utility skills, whatnot), but instead of that they just smash everything and hope stuff just dies. Once i had a party where the staff ele literally spammed everything on CD, switch attunement and do the same. When i asked why he just spams? Because earth#4 on a stationary boss (we were in TA wurm at that moment) is kinda pointless. Answer? For fun. Sorry, for me it’s stupid, fun won’t kill the enemy. And you forgot about FGS too, but meh … That would be a logical complain.

DaiBish has good points btw.

@Bezagron
To your last 4 points.

1. Sure, but thats what we call puzzle or gimmicky fights. Think about the trap part in ACp2, where you do nothing just use an enviromental weapon to defeat the “boss” (yeah i know it changed in the recent patch, but you get it). The point still stand for most of the encounters. You deal dmg, the enemy lose health, it dies eventually.

2. Did you ever played any MMO before? There is a best option since this game is based around numbers. Certain factors make a best option out of every possible option. Simple as that. Of course in actual gameplay you must be practical. A good example would be guardian meta builds, which sacrifice a lot of damage output just to get support traits (aoe blind and might on F1 spamming, condi removal, longer reflects, shout cd reduction, vuln stacking, etc.). If a WvW player comes in and want to roleplay tank in PvE, go on. Make his own party, search for likeminded people and do the content.

3. Roles are more flexible and players are using them. For example if you have a thief and engi in your party, you won’t force hopefully the engi to stealth the party, when the thief can done the job better, BUT there is an option to use engi. Same with other mechanics. People use plenty of defensive abilities too like blinds, cripple, chill, aegis, protection, blocks, invulnerabilities, etc.

4. In full offensive parties usually it’s more like damage mitigation, instead of eating the damage and reactively heal it back. But in a full tanky setup it works just fine in PvE.

@Dual
So you want to punish full offensive builds at certain areas for no particular reason meanwhile full tank builds are viable everywhere and removes the lack of risk and the need of using anything beside auto-attack. Seriously. Try it. If something needs to be nerfed in PvE, it’s PVT and cleric builds.

@Bezagron
Still waiting for the list of 1 shot skills from PvE dungeon bosses.

@Jerus
You said yourself, it’s extremely gimmicky fight and my point still stands. Get what you need, fill the rest with DPS.

@Lian
Not a good example, but WoW wasn’t much engaging. DPS classes used 4-5 skills, tanks neither had much more ability, most of them was an emergency button if kitten hits the fan and healers lately got awesome addons thus you just clicked at the whole raid. Roles was the same. Bring your unique stuff and go full nuts, nothing fancy, you can put down your rose tinted glasses.
Care to elaborate with detailed examples?

edit:
@Lian again
WoW had a similar boss in Icecrown, Valrithia Dreamwalker when you need to get a few healers (sometimes one was enough) to phase out and heal the dragon up while the rest of the group does the tank ‘n spank on the swarming adds which comes faster and faster as you progress with the healing. At the beginning when your healers weren’t good enough to duo or solo the “boss” it was a dps race to prevent the adds from overwhelming the raid and kill everybody. Ofc gear solved that problem, but that would be a non-issue here.

I assumed, because …
1. Nothing stop you from using a toughness based build and satisfy your obsession with higher armor numbers.
2a. Therefore you are bothered of the fact that “your playstyle” isn’t accepted OR
2b. You want the same killing speed as full offensive builds.

As i said, you still can’t see it. There are roles which can be filled with various tools (read: skills by weapons, utilites or traits). And tell me an MMO where the fights aren’t based around damage thus killing your opponent thus boiling down to go full DPS after every buff, utility and defense is covered.

Based on my personal experience I see how people complete most content just fine and even complain about stuff not being challenging. And they mainly do that using mainly DPS.

Than you have good pugs or friends, who can beat the content without support or control. Good for you.

It’s not about tanking a mob to dead. It’s about using your brain, think of tactics and.. there it is.. Use your special abilities in the best possible way for the fight you have.

Tactics developed months ago, so it’s very natural, easy and dumb for most of us. It happens in every game. Define special abilites. In my opinion every non-auto attack is a special ability, so i guess there are some difference in the use of these terms.
Again, if you have such a pro pug or friends, that can beat the content without zero support (boons, reflects, cleanse, etc) and control (be it soft or hard CC), good for you, but the majority don’t play that way.

However it usually boils down to.. Do as much DPS as possible and we get the job done in the most optimal way.

Which happens in every other MMO. Your tanks and healers are well geared and can handle the encounters? Dump 1-2 and get another dps dude.

Also it does not seem that ‘the new gamer generation’ thinks you should not have to use tactics (at least not the PC-gamers) because else we would not see so many topics like this.

OP just want a (bad) solution to a non-existent problem, because he lacks game knowledge.

But it’s always a nice excuse.. Everything is fine and everybody who says it’s not just sucks at the game.

Nope, the game has issues i admit it, but the average player, which mades up the vast majority of the playerbase, is extremely dumb to my other experiences in MMO games.

Oow and about you not talking about DPS..
“Thats a great post Ropechef and exactly thats why people should get ignored who starts their complain with “but dungz ned only deepz!”

Most people focus on DPS and it works just fine for them. But of course it’s not the fault of the Anet.. No it’s the players fault for.. yeah for what really?

For using mechanics they get spoonfed on?. Those mechanics (you talk abour.. dps dps dps) do not work if you really have multiple required! classes.

Based on my personal experience, no. Players come in tanky gear and expect to clear content as a full offensive, optimized group. And please, why on earth it bothers you that dealing damage makes you able to go trough a dungeon? You want to tank mobs to death? Or heal them until they overwhelmed from love and die?

You need a bigger b8 m8. I didn’t speak about dps dps dps, exactly the opposite. Players, like you, live in a delusional state and spread misinformation how the game only need just dps, stand in one spot and just spam 1, meanwhile it couldn’t be far from the truth.
My point was mechanics like combo fields, blinds, build synergy, CC and so on, aren’t explained by the game itself in a foolproof way as a lot of players want it. Simple logic would solve this thing (combo finisher + combo field → use them → do stuff → yay), but sadly the new gamer generation expect to get every info in their faces and do little to no research about the game or it’s mechanics.

Well it can be pulled to near the staircase, but sadly the turrets still shoot trough them and apply boons to the golem.

How to handle staff guardians?

Ok, I have to comment on this, it’s been almost a month since coming here last…..is this -still- going?
There are three pages of people trying to define exactly how to use staff guardians for a SINGLE build, as if the only thing that matters is -one- variable(which isn’t even defensible for any problem as complex as this game), or bashing anyone who uses staffs.
Sorry to comment but this is actually funny, its like watching a religious parody directed to a weapon style in a videogame.

Because people, like you, still unwiling to accept the facts we provide, meanwhile people, like you, have no other reason beside “playhowiwant” and “its fun”.
So the question, why should a player use staff outside of TA and grawl fractal instead of any other option? Your turn

Personally i hope really for new zones added with LS2 as they did with Southsun but i hope they avoid to listen to the hardmode people this time, and don’t create again content that (nearly) nobody plays, just because of a vocal minoroty that always want they elite modes because everything is too easy for them. And if they get harder stuff they don’t play it because they wanted in reality better exclusive loot, and not really just the challenge like they said before.

Is Southsun an “elite” zone?

"Rangers Can't Play Their Class"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Using the wrong weapons and skills.

Rangers should be bringing sword mainhand for their weapon, since it’s the only one that does good DPS. They should be bringing spotter and traited frost spirit. And they should be bringing cats and birds and drakes (I think? Not a ranger player myself, so not sure about this) as pets.

Instead we see bearbows, and we cry.

Wow. For someone who doesn’t play Rangers, you sure have a lot of specific ideas about how another person should play theirs. Just sayin’.

The sad part is he still knows it better than actual rangers.

The Temple of Grenth event needs a rework

The problem with the Grenth temple priest fight is something else: 90 % of the people participating are completely incompetent. They don’t bother to get the buff and kill the shades, so the few players who know what to do simply get overrun by shades. And out of the people fighting the shades, I’d bet that a large part runs builds which are completely useless for PvE, complicating the fight even further.

In the end, the fight is fine. There’s no need to change it and reward stupidity.

+1 for this, even in this harsh context.
The only remotely challanging open world content is a few Orr temple and the golem boss, but the later one is simply get ranged to death from a safe spot by the majority of the players. And poor fire ele’s health pool got reduced it seems, so it melts (lol?) really fast nowadays.
Keep the hard stuff hard.

A bit outdated for runes, sigils and trait. But of course that normal in a MMO where there is several change with patch.

The first part is really good for player that want to learn the basis for running a better build and using offensive support in the game.

Yeah the actual builds are outdated long time ago, but it covers the basics well.
My other personal issue about this, that even the sticky is not enough here and the forums don’t have any dedicated PvE subforum.

What is the highest DPS class?

Note i said they ‘usually’ out dps eles/thieves for solo situations. of course you havent rly proved anything just by a lupicus solo on an Ele, besides the number of people that can pull that off is very small. Some other solos in which warriors will out dps other classes:

also why don’t you list an Ele solo for Alphard and see how it compares to warrior time. I don’t see one anywhere…

I hit above 200k into a rabbit with necro. Warrior now is S tier.
C’mon at least link solos with the same enemies …

What is the highest DPS class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dalanor.5387

Both ele and thief have the highest potential dps out there, this is due to multiple damage multipliers in their traits.
Despite what most of the community thinks warrior dps is mediocre and the only reason you have them in your party is because of their banners.

don’t listen to this guy, he doesn’t really know what he’s saying. thieves only have better single-target dps, and aren’t useful for most dungeons except when needing to stealth through mobs. Eles have probably highest dps potential for speedruns, but they are squishy as hell especially if theres no guard to mitigate dmg for them. Eles are actually less useful for pugs because for the harder content (not including AC) they are downed or die a lot, so stacking warriors is better then. Warrior dps is far from mediocre, in fact for solo situations warriors usually out dps eles and thieves, because they can stack might/fury easier and sustain it longer. With phalanx trait, warriors can also stack more might for the group than Eles. so the argument that the only reason to bring warriors is for banners is wrong. In fact other classes wouldnt reach their highest dps potential without a warrior in group. For pugs, I’ve seen stacking warriors (3 or so warriors in group) leads to much faster times than stacking guards, thief etc. in the end it doesn’t matter which class does more dps but which is more useful for situations.

Dont listen to this guy.
