The legendary foes within Crown Pavilion have this buff on them:

“Indomitable : Cannot be blinded, chilled, crippled, immobilized, knocked down, launched, or pushed back. Cannot be removed”

Have ArenaNet thought about what this leaves for the rare kind of player that doesn’t want to go all out damage? They are even immune to stun and daze despite this not being mentioned in the buff

So this means that the “damage, control, support” idea becomes “damage, support” or should I say “damage, damage, damage, damage, damage, and support”?

Nothing affects your control skills, you just have them and think when to use them, not just spam it brainlessly.

How you want to CC stationary ranged bosses anyway with chill or cripple? And maybe its a surprise, but you need damage to kill the enemy in this game as in others too so sorry if you want to tank or heal them do death but then this game isnt for you.

The anti-stacking crowd keep parroting the lie that stacking allows players to somehow nullify boss mechanics in every single thread. Most of them have learned that crap in the forums from clueless players like them and asume it’s true, yet they cannot name a single boss that can be exploited like that. Furhtermore they are so ignorant that they cannot figure out that bosses use different attacks depending on whether players are in melee range or not.
The only boss that comes to mind whose attacks can be prevented by stacking is the ooze in Arah, everything else is just fine.

It’s spider queen, always that spider. And after one AC run they think that they know everything about PvE.
Even before the ferocity change two FGS rush just melted it, so new players can assume you completely negate the mechanics with corner stacking, meanwhile just two player carried them hard. I guess.

Dude, you have reading issues. Seriously.
Curtoky spoke about control when he mentioned Tar elemental. And if you ever pay attention to that fight, its not only “apply burn and kill it”. Or at least, there is a better way to do it with immobilize and dont let it to burrow underground.

People stay close (!) to Lupi to avoid the bubble attack. But if you like to take a few thousand of damage when you can avoid it, go ahead.

Again, you proved your lesser experience. You just exploit stuff with pugs, of course you will become disappointed.

Not thats the only boss, which need CC. And you use control on trash too in some occasion.

Yes, in theoy. But not everyone is capable of dodge everything OR have a decent group with better than average people that can cooperate. You know, people that do their stuff with their class.

First of all, every type of gear is viable as a few of as already said. Zerker being the most optimal, well yes in theory. But i guess you are new to MMO’s if you are surprised that there is a best option in gear.
Thats what i try to say. Read pls and take your rage away. The game is easy enough that you can brute force yourself trough the content even if you dont play in the most optimal way and get every possible source of buff and stuff. Get it?

Because you cant tank and heal mobs to death, obviously the best thing to do is maximize damage output while still get the required support and control for the fight. Clear?

With thief, you are a class with high single target spike damage and stealth mechanics as in almost every other game. Here you do the same. Deal a crabton of damage while stealth your teammates. Thats your job. If you dont do it, you are less useful, than a thief that do this.

People still can’t understand for some reason, that the utility is absolute independent from gear. And you can avoid every damage with active defense, especially if your team mates are competent and help you out. I mean when you get aegis and reflects from team mates it can help to survive. Get it? Finally?

ps: Lack of punishment makes you and likeminded people feel they are still useful, because the game isnt punish failure nor inefficient methods. No offense, but think about it. Even if you dont push your limits over the top with 25 might, 25 stack of vuln and full maxed out gear and optimized builds etc etc., you will still beat the content.

It’s actually kind of sad that trying to play well, carry your own weight, and get the most out of your character is now seen as elitist.

It has nothing to do with that, I too like to “play” with my build to get the most out it in any given situation. Where it starts to enter into the grey territory is when players are being “told” what to do and wear. Nobody likes being told what to do and as this is an MMO and not a job you cannot blame them. It goes right into the black when a total stranger messages you to tell you that you are a “noob” and to “get real gear ya looser”.

As you can see a mostly harmless tool for you could become an absolute kitten for others. As has been said “don’t join groups that require gear checks”, but if used in the open world to harass others would in not be another story?

It wasnt an issue in other MMO’s, why GW2 must be an exception? Playhowiwants make toxic environment and tension in the playerbase. :/ Reason? Nothing.

Take WoW as an example, because everybody knows it. You looking for a paladin tank. A frost mage joins in with PvP gear and talents. What would you do?

  • GW2 verison: You say hi, give him cookie and let him tank and wonder why its harder.
  • WoW version: Kick and get what you actually want.

Example#2. You search for a paladin tank again. Paladin tank appears, but have heal talents / healing gear on him and refuse to change. What would you do?

I hope it makes a sense what i mean.
One side of the playerbase, lets call them “elitists” wants a tool, for make theorycrafting easier and to make valid points about their stuff. Ofc it would encourage future elitism, but it already exists, so at least they got a proof how pvt staff guardians arent the same dps as zerkers, as stated above.
On the other side, lets call them “casuals”, this situation seem to be a problem, that the would get outcasted. But its already a thing, so at least people have proof for things.

As in this and other numerous threads we have seen, people just lie about their builds and want to get carried. We have seen the complaints about getting kicked for this reason. We ask, “Why dont you make your own groups with likeminded people?” and they answer “ITS SLOW!”. Adapt then, we said. No, they said. And here we are. Full of people, who refuse to learn, to adapt, to work as a team. People want proof against this.

Hellcome!

I just want to jump in with a tiny info.
Support in this game is wider and completely different than other, generic MMO-s.
It could mean buffing up your teammates with boons, such as Might and Fury, providing Swiftness for faster running or defend them with Aegis, Protection or using projectile absorb / reflect. Big group of mobs ahead? No problem, ask your Thief to use area stealth on the group and sneak past them. Need more dps? Ask your Warrior to plant banners with area buffs. You lack offensive boons? Ele will provide a lot of Might and Fury while annihilate the group with their super awesome Lightning hammer or Fiery Greatsword. Group is low on health, but the boss refuse to die? Drop a waterfield and make a few blast finisher in it to aoe heal the group, etc etc etc. After a while you will get the hang of it.

If you are more interested in PvE, i would advice you to try out Elementalist. A lot of options by default thanks to the 4 attunement they have with every weapon and has various useful utilities in their pockets. And ofc ridicolous damage.

If you are PvP oriented, try Guardian or Engi. Guardian is similar to paladins and other “holy knight” type classes, but their role isn’t restricted to only support. Well, thats actually true for every class. So Guardians are more of a “i block everything and help out my team with stuff” of guys. Meanwhile Engi is like a swiss knife. On steroids. With granades. Similary to Ele they get a lot of options with kits such as Granade and Bomb kit, Flamethrower or Elixir gun.

I hope it helped a little. If not, ask and always try to learn.

I’d do the same thing myself if I didnt already run dungeons and fractals with my guild. Quite frankly if I built my character in a way that’s not the meta, it’s because I find the meta a poor combination for my character and how I play my character. Sure maybe the meta is slightly better in dungeons, but I strongly doubt the meta is as effective in Fractals, where bosses (even trash mobs) are far more difficult than dungeons. Not to mention there are many occasions where you simply cant dodge everything and are forced to take hits.

You know …. There are meta builds for Fractals too …

That brings up the issue of build diversity then doesn’kitten That because these aren’t giving out the most burst dps possible it is there for not wanted. So by this logic if I wanted to dungeon as a thief i better only pick traits that will A) improve my stealth durations and B ) give me the most burst damage. Then if they improved the other play styles of the thief and made them more rewarding, that would get rid of the whole issue of having some mobs not being able to get stealth past. The tnt is a great example of intended to be skipped mobs, i agree with that, but what about the ones standing still that you just run or stealth past, what about those in small corridors that we do the same thing to?

Consider that if people want you to be filtered out of a group, maybe it’s actually for a good reason instead of instantly responding “WTF elitist!” and refusing to make your own group.

And consider that most people are making their own groups and still find the same disgusting behavior showing up there as well. Which is a point a lot of you are refusing to see.

And people lie all the time. I still see low lvl characters in “lvl80 only” groups. I still see cleric healing staff camping guardians in “zerker only” groups. I still see total new players in “experienced” groups. People can’t or refuse to read. And they come to the forums and complain about their rights and whatnot.

also thieves can bring a poison share support build to groups, they can also controll or bring strong aoe bleed damage builds to take out that trash

As a PVT guardian pushing near 30k health, I deal the same damage as a guardian wearing zerker, with the sole exception that my critical rate is about 10%. In exchange for my low critical rate, I have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more health and armor than a zerker guardian. And by running S/S & staff, I may not be dealing top damage, yet I contribute more to the fight because I’m CCing enemies, buffing allies, and providing supportive actions.

To top it off, I’m not dying to the same things a zerker guardian would die to.

And for those saying “stop joining zerker only parties,” get off the dead horse already. I dont see where anyone is saying they dont want either of these functions because they’re joining zerker/speedrun parties.

But melee range isn’t safe, except for the duration of endure pain.

I smell some learn to play issue. You don’t need invulnerability to melee safely, thats why you have support and control amongst your party members.

No, i’m not bearbow, but this would be certainly good for them too. I main a zerker ele.

So being the best damaging class (including ranging with staff) is not enough?

Lingering curse increase the default 4 second bleeds on scepter (and only auto, i guess), before every other modifier, so its not exactly 133%.

Most pugs struggle with dodges. What if the new meta for pugs revolved around chilling all foes = 66% more cooldown = 66% less dodge required ?

Later they created the zergs which"everyone" is playing them so that now they created the anti-zerg system.

Staff ele.
While it lacks mobility skills, it can apply aoe perma swiftness or just equip a signet for 25% movement speed.
Ranged in this game is really really bad, except for staff ele and granade engineers, they are intented to be ranged and doing fine that way.
Aoe all over the place. Fireball can hit up to 3 targets, while Lava font (fire#2) can hit 5 targets and has a nearly 100% uptime. Of course you have Meteor shower, Ice bow and Glyph of storms for additional aoe madness.

But you didn’t specified one thing. PvE or WvW? If PvE, watch this.

That Smoke Bomb was on cooldown because he accidentally dropped it before the tunnel. If it’d been a thief misclicking Shadow Refuge you’d have been waiting an extra 40 seconds, clearly thief stealth sucks for skipping too since your party has to wait around for it all the time.

Why do people try to be "tanks" in dungeons?

It’s not like in most of the games that tank can stand still and be healed, but he can take some hits and hold mobs in place for long enought to nuke them by the rest of your team. For most of the mobs / bosses it’s enought to just stay melee and have enought armor to become their only target for the whole fight. I’m not sure if this approach is faster or not, but it is for sure easier.

NOOOOOOO don’t spread LIES. We already have enough tanky people that think that they bring something to the group even if they don’t. Don’t give them another reason to hold back groups. Surviability is for you little kitten only and bring nothing to the group except if in full DPS you die each 2sec. Having enough survivability to match you level of skill is the only reason to use defensive stats or healing in PvE.

What is a lie? Wiki article? The stuff that I said is basically the confirmation of wiki article and from my experience having a lot of toughness keeps most of the mobs on you. It’s not like tanking is neccessary in PVE, you can do everything just fine without it. I have tried it once and went to lvl 9 fractal on my elementalist with 3.5k armor and build based around magnetic shield (couldn’t try it at higher level because I don’t have agony in the set that I bought just to do this test) and somehow it worked.

I experienced the opposite. Watching obal’s guardian guide about Cliffside, where he mentions having Knight armor in a full zerk group makes you the primary target most of the time, and actually you can see it on the video how he basically never lose agro, meanwhile if i do the same it jumps on everybody else but me. I wouldn’t base my gaming on some weird, uncontrolable and random agro mechanic.

To all of you stacking haters. Why exploiting the boss from range (makes the boss unable to use melee attacks on you) is better and not deserve to be changed?
Why cleric / soldier afk fights are good and not needs to change?
There are a lot of other and more intulting options that pugs could use, but instead that, they choose the berserker path, unable to play it and then come to the forums with nonsense complainings like this.
These kind of daily threads start to be getting boring and still has no meaningful reasoning behind it, just the usual “i don’t like it”. Don’t do it then and make your own parties with the lfg tool and kick if necessary. Problem solved.

In most dungeons and fractals (and some world bosses), for most situations, the answer to everything is “STACK”. I feel like this is ruining the fun of actually trying to find new strategies.

I know that I could choose to just “not do it” but whenever I get pugs in my group there’s almost always one who ABSOLUTELY want everyone to stack, serious business is serious and must be fast too… What is the point of giving us lots of bosses with different skills and strategies if you can finish most of them by just brainlessly stacking?

I know there are counter examples, the aetherblade dungeon is actually great because it’s not brainless but this is still most of the dungeons.
What do you think?

How about understanding game mechanics before come to the forums?

1. Skills that applies boons has limited range.
2. Melee does more damage.
3. Melee hits up to 3 target by default (aka cleave damage).
4. If a team mate goes down nearby it’s enough to press a button to ress him / her.

All of the above encourages to stay close to your buddies as close as you can.
Oh and don’t forget, making your own group with “no stacking,no skiping,all cutscenes,no berserker,roleplaying,iplayhowiwant,all is wellcome” is still not an exploit.

Didn’t read the whole thread so sorry if it already get mentioned.

Please remove the confirmation window, when you put trait points into a traitline and bring back that dropdown menu where you can choose your traits. This new list on the left side of the traits is just a pain to use.

Finally i’m back. Some souvenir for you.

1. Rangers. What can i say?
2. Play how i want.
3. Reading and being honest is still an exploit.
4. CoE. All you can screw up edition. 0 reflect at golem. Random warr steals LH. Playhowiwant. Necro fears out Alpha right after stacking. Luckily i could get out and i let the PVT warr save the day.

Oh good, so the stacking hate has leaked from the dungeon subforum into general as if it is an illegitimate strategy. Muppets.

It’s a legit strategy, just bad design to allow it to be so. The fact that stacking is often coupled with clear exploits (FGS etc) just makes the case clearer.

Then again, ANet doesn’t really care about dungeons. Or exploits.

Stacking is to imitate the role of tanks who can gather mobs together and keep them in place while dps characters burn them down. If you enjoy to running around and killing mobs one by one even if your weapon can hit 3-5 targets, do it … Oh, sorry, if you are melee range that’s already cause you stack together with your team mates. Never mind then, happy range afk everything from safe spots.

a 12s howling king kill is terribly slow, even without corner stacking

just shows how little people know.

A few days ago when he made his own topic he obviously knew nothing about AC nor dungeons in general. Now he speaks like a dungeon guru.

12 seconds is terribly slow? The enemy not even getting to attack is terrible slow….do I even nee to address that? that is case in point of what I’m talking about. How can you fight something if it doesn’t have the chance to fight?! I just…how else can I prove it, a run that is so fats the enemy couldn’t even do anything is somehow terribly slow?! Seriously!
And dude, half the posters in that topic didn’t understand what they were even saying, I can -still- see a bunch of hypocrisy posts. I wasn’t the only one being foolish.

You’re arguing with the wrong crowd. All these people care about is farming the dungeons as fast as possible. They would think the content is equally great if everything just fell over and died as soon as you enter the dungeon. Blame ANet and their method of progression/rewards.

Tell me why you prefer PVT and 5x longer dungeon runs. Lack of risk what makes you happy?

Active challenges in GW2 and in Wildstar

Didn’t read the whole thread.
When everybody knows the content, tactics and game mechanics inside out and reaches the required gear or even go beyond that, Wildstar will be the same average and easy MMO as others. Only time will tell what will actually happen, but i’m sceptical.
GW2 started the same, as OP said it too. A lot of us dodged and tried to use tactics even against a simple boar and after days passed we realised two auto attack is enough.

Both Brazil and Nike made videos with all classes and DEKeyz made very detailed ele videos too.

When Mike had run every popular path at least 50 times, we can go back to this, aye?
And correct me if i’m wrong, but why the other end of the spectrum is more engaging? I mean you just stand there without any risk of dying? How it feels more like a “fight”?
If you have no optimized build and / or group then yeah, it can be “challanging”, but it’s still not optimized, that’s why it isn’t smooth enough. People here made artificial challange themselves (5 naked bearbow run for example), but i’m not sure we should talk about this in any way or form. If you make the game harder for yourself, than of course it becomes harder. Oo

So Mike. Give us reasons. Explain why. Tell us anything else than just opininons.
If you claim something, you should prove it. The guys here made valid points unlike you. Change this, before you become a bigger joke. Or get banned.
