there is no logic in defiance, its just lazy dev work.
Care to elaborate even more this well tought feedback?
Solution? Change Unshakeable so that the mob only gains defiant stacks if he’s actually interrupted, not just when hit with an interrupt skill. Remove defiant stacks the same way (or add a 10 second or 15 second timer per stack or something), but few things suck more than trying to interrupt that boss’s OMG attack and failing because that warrior over there spammed his downed #2 skill just because.
If i understand you, you would remove the option to preemptively CC the boss (Deep freeze, Fear me, etc.) and further reduce the control options with a internal cooldown? Later one of course can be balanced out with skill cooldowns, but let’s say the ICD is 10 seconds and bosses have attacks (with reasonable windup time to recognize) with 10-15 seconds cooldown, it would mean you always can CC them whenever you have a not brainded member in your paty who can use a CC skill. Do i understand your idea right? If this gets implemented, thieves would trivialize bossfights and no one ever need to bring CC skills anymore. I find this idea lazy.
So people can stunlock the boss as long as he does not start to attack?
Also this. If the CC applies to the boss (it should due to 0 defiance) you can keep it busy and it won’t attack ever until you have any CC skills, but as i above said, thieves would abuse this system too much and trivialize boss encounters. Not too well tought nor a solution. Or both Ascimator and i misunderstood your idea horribly.
OP: The problem with making every Defiant boss big and heavy is that it would become way too easy to cheese the fight with kiting. (Running away while shooting at range.) Kiting is a perfectly valid strategy, but we don’t want it to become so good that nobody ever does anything else.
Agree. Now mobs check their script every 1-2 seconds, you can kite them endlessly with backpedaling especially if they have cripple / chill on them.
@OP
Sadly this isn’t Dark souls, where the mobs are big, slow and has well detailed attacks.
What about bosses that are human or small sized?
It would be weird any way, since not all control skills are about launching the boss. For example, we also have Fear, which is also blocked by Defiant. So that would mean big heavy bosses would be immune to all control skills, except fear. It would be more logical, but not fair from a game mechanics point of view.
Why would be more logical that you can’t knockback a giant, but it scares and run away from a tiny human when it says BOO? At least mechanics wise it works.
The real problem with Defiant, is that it scales to the number of players, not the number of players actually using control skills on the boss. This means that in a party of 5 players, if one player uses a control skill, the boss gets 5 defiant. Which is completely unfair.
Which is an intended and good thing. In a 5 man dungeon there is 5 player who can possibly use a CC. There are a lot of options in meta build almosts everytime ready to use by anyone. Mish-mash builds are fine that get punished.
A simple way to fix this would be to give the boss a temporary 1 defiant, for 3 seconds, per control effect. This would allow players to CC the boss every 3 seconds max, and spamming control skills would only prolong the effect, and add extra stacks that wear off naturally.
It’s not simple and not a fix. It’s just promotes dumb gameplay where anyone get rewarded when someone can find their CC skills.
The only problem with the current system, apart from players can’t understand it, that there aren’t enough encounters where you need to interrupt to ensure your party don’t get destroyed.
In small scale it encourages coordination and it prevents CC lock at large scale contents. Defiance is fine.
edit: OP, now i tought about it. Why you want apply real life logic in a fantasy based video game?
(edited by Dalanor.5387)
How about if they made the edges of the health bar or even better the party icon of the character with the color of your gear, like they edges of the item icons are colored in the color of their rarity in your inventory (when activated)? That way, a fully asc would have his icon’s edges in pink so everyone knows he at least has ascended gear. If he only has a mix of asc gear and exo gear, then part of the edge would be orange to point this out, same for other rarities.
This seems to me an easy tell, but I don’t know how hard it would be to implement. And it wouldn’t fix the problem of PVT-wielding pugs who claim to be zerkers… Maybe if each gear type had an icon which was displayed in a corner of the party icon pic? But then there are players who wear mixed gear, and displaying multiple icons might make the image less clear…
Or maybe if each party member could type out a /command to see the gear of all party members in chat, exactly how commanders can see the supply info of the people next to them?
In the post you quote he provides more than enough information to get his point and his concern across.
Except not. Let me quote myself.
Go into details with the problem and the solution. Pating eachother back isn’t constructive nor helpful[…]
OP outright refused to give examples. As i said " “stuff not gud, fix it pl0x” threads aren’t useful. Maybe he found some bugged enemies, it’s hard to tell whats his problem and maybe find a solution for it if he refuse to say it.
It’s a completely different problem to get frustrated from blind immune dredge and getting frustrated by unblockable abilities which aren’t mentioned anywhere in-game.
I hope it’s enough to get my point and concerns.
I mostly have to agree with the OP.
I’m running my ele with a staff.
Water skill 4: Useless.
Earth skill 4+5: A little damage, but otherwise useless
Air-Skill 3: Useless.
Air-Skill 5: Only a source for vulnerability.Especially the chill from water-4 used to be a great tool to buy some rez-time when engaging mini-bosses in small numbers.
Of course in the case of ele, you have plenty of tools due to attunements, but that doesn’t mean you have to use them everytime.
Water 4 is an awesome unblockable chill which is great at the last grawl shaman fight for example (except at lvl38).
Earth 4 and 5 are CC skills, they aren’t for damage purposes obviously.
Air 3 is the same, it’s for situational CC. I often use it on slavedriver in CoFp1 because pugs don’t now what controling the enemy means.
Air 5 is great for swiftness stacking (lightning field + blasts = aoe swiftness, read about combos here) both in open world and dungeons.
It has nothing to do with the system being broken or not, you just need to understand what your class and skills doing and use them at the right situation when you need them.
snip
These are valid concerns and i agree with you. The system is more or less fine, personally i like it, but the game isn’t encourage it well enough. Of course not every single enemy in the game should be now with the same mechanics, where you need hard CC, but more would be lovely. =3
However i still find Tootsie a badly designed boss. Of course it is hard do catch first, but randomly spammed CC will make it stand still for the whole fight, which is boring and lame. Or it bugged out every single time. Who knows?
I’m not sure it would be a good idea with the current design ideas. You know, the time you separate class mechanics and make really really distinct and unique ones, very specific roles will emerge and would make situations where certain class(es) will become mandatory which wouldn’t be an issues in bigger raid like instances, but GW2 current dungeons design is 5 man only.
Currently thief is one of this, since engi is unable to keep up high stealth uptime which is just too great to pass at certain places.
Sadly we can find examples for the other way around. I would say guardian is fit here. They got every possible defensive ability in the game and unique ones too (party wide aegis) to help the team, making every other class defensive support almost completely obsolete. Just look at poor mesmers. Let’s say, you remove every single cleanse ability from guardian. Now in PvE they make other classes more useful if you need condi removal. Of course that would be completely broken in PvP, but you get example.
I didn’t say anything about Defiance. In general, I am talking about how skills are useless in many encounters. I’m certain the designers at Anet are smart enough to understand that a player will expect their skills to work everywhere regardless of the content. Simply making things immune is a lazy way to balance encounters. I don’t want CC spam as a lot of people are suggesting. I really hope from this point on we will think out our responses more constructively. As I said in the original post, diminishing returns or internal cooldowns are fine but at some basic level all our skills should work in all content.
To address some of the comments, no I won’t mention specific encounters because it’s not relevant. I’m talking from a design perspective. A player hits a button and expects it to have a result with cascading information. I also already mentioned that stunning Tequatl would be ridiculous and the player will understand that but some enemies that aren’t even champions are immune and that’s poor mechanic communication.
One other thing OP. Name me the encounters where it bothers you.
Go into details with the problem and the solution.
Yes, it’s relevant since you never mentioned whats your exact problem with mechanics.
As i said previously, people tend to blame Defiance for no reason, but if it’s not the case now, what else? Are you frustrated about the Mai Trin fight or what?
Give examples whats not working and how should it work, refusing said things otherwise turn the thread into a “stuff not gud, fix it pl0x” thread again. Which isn’t good for anyone.
Let me show how you should do.
“I miss some consistency with certain mechanics in PvE, namely the recents changes with Malrona in Twilight arbor Up path. Previously it was possible to reflect both attacks, but now they aren’t altough it isn’t mentioned in the description of the boss. Also it happened with some other spider mobs in said dungeon.
Same applies to Mai Trin, because she has both a unblockable and a undodgable attack. Later one heavily discriminates certain classes, namely Necromancers, due to their lack of other damage mitigation options outside of death shroud.
Can we get more consistency how certain things works (projectiles -> reflectable or at least blockable) or unique mechanics mentioned somehow in boss descriptions?”
See? It wasn’t hard at all.
ps: These are actual issues and if thats what OP meant in the original post, i’m agree with him.
Well I’m running the Greatsword EA build, and I’m pretty sure that out DPS’s the Axe EA build
Try this build. Drop out Berserker’s might is a great loss, so there is no point to loss even more damage output if you run with EA in the first place.
edit: Yeah, you are right. I will edit the link. However i rewatched the guide by Nike and he also suggests 46040. Isn’t the 15% dmg bonus from Berserker’s might outweight the stat bonuses and Deep strikes?
(edited by Dalanor.5387)
Agreed. And they need to get rid of the 25 max. condition stack. I would love to have a condition-based build, but it’s useless. The whole Player vs. A.I. paradigm in this game needs a total rework.
Removing the condi cap would make condition builds less worse than they are now, but can’t reach similar results in group content.
The ramp up time alone makes them inferior, also they scale horribly compared to direct damage builds. In fact they ignore armor, but current dungeon bosses are low armor, high HP targets with the exception of the two end bosses of the dredge fractal, but those are gimmicky fights anyway.
Power builds scale way better, because might, damage modifiers, vulnerability and ferocity affects them, meanwhile condi builds only can benefit from might and more or less from condi duration if it has enough time to deal damage. Thats why its much better in solo situations, where you lack buffs and your damage aren’t pushed out by others.
There was obviously a bit of hyperbole in my post. Hyperbole aside, how many slots on your skill bar have you dedicated to CC when fighting bosses? How many slots in your party are you looking to fill with someone spec’d for CC? Unless a boss mechanic specifically calls for CC (i.e. Three-Toed Tootsie), I’m guessing the answer for the typical pve player is “not many”.
Hyperboles aren’t helpful, constructive and misinform others. I got infractions for less.
But to be on topic.
- Warrior: Off-hand mace, Fear me, Pin down, Throw bolas
- Guardian: Banish, Ring of warding, Zealot’s embrace, Binding blade, Line of warding, Sanctuary.
- Ranger: Counter attack, Hilt bash, various pets if needed
- Thief: Pistol whip, Headshot, Scorpionwire
- Engi: Big ol’ bomb, Magnetic shield, Overcharged shoot
- Mesmer: Diversion, Mantra of distraction, Magic bullet, Counter blade, Into the void
- Necro: Doom, Wail of doom
- Ele: well they got a lot of options with that many skills
And these are just often used skills by meta builds available to the player almost everytime, but not including a lot of soft CC skills for example skills with blinds, chill, cripple, etc. Also, you can’t build for control, since they are mostly tied to only your weapon and utility skills and only a handful of trait has any effect on them. Honestly i can’t name but only one, Banshee’s wail for necromancers.
You can say whatever you want, everyone can share their opinion, but it isn’t change the fact that you have a lot of option to deal with a lot of situation effectively where you need it if you coordinate it.
Also the “typical pve player” isn’t avare of a lot of mechanics, due to open world being horribly easy, where the only remotely challenging mobs, the champions get zerged down anyway. You drop them into dungeon content, where they get wrecked (admit it, your very first experience wasn’t better, neither mine) and need to learn to use certain mechanics or they ignore it, because they can, thanks to the game isn’t punish them enough. But thats another topic i guess.
Thanks for mentioning the new moa boss. I think its a horrible boss design. It’s the same boss what we have seen suggested in threads like this. It requires nothing, just brainless CC spam, which isn’t an issue with only a handful of people around. I find it really really lame. The sad thing it isn’t dangerous enough, just a big HP bag.
I agree with the OP.
However I don’t see it changing…
ArenaNet has created MegaZerg champ train schedule where people only DPS with Skill #1. Its ArenaNet created, ArenaNet supported. Regardless if they say otherwise – it exists because of them.
Open world has little to no common in instanced boss encounters and i don’t see why you complain about zerg bosses being immune to CC. I mean, c’mon, 100 players just randomly spams their stuff and the boss would do literally nothing.
[…]bosses are immune to it. Ergo, it’s pointless.
Read my above post with examples, but let me show you how the mechanic works.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unshakable
Gains defiance when targeted by crowd-control skills. Blind is 10% as effective. Weakness and vulnerability last 50% less time.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Defiance
Immune to crowd control. Crowd-control skills remove stacks of defiance.
You can see bosses aren’t immune to them, you just need coordination instead of mindless CC spamming to effectively interrupt bosses when needed.
First of all he didn’t even mentioned whats frustates him. Only i could assume he talks about Defiance, since its almost a daily topic in the forums, which turn into always pointless posts (see above) and detailed reasoning by regular posters which gets ignored by said thread openers and believers that think the system is broken and want to roleplay CC bots.
Second, Defiance works as intended. It encourage team work and coordination instead of mindless CC spam with no effort, which OP wishes for.
Applying simply a diminishing return system as in WoW, with the removing of Defiance of course, it would just reward every non-skilled player who can push a CC button to actively interrupt enemy attack. Here is were team work comes in with the current system. If you need CC, you have to coordinate what to use and when.
Lets take AC spider queen for example with her new poison attack. Spidey starts to glow, raise its rear end and prepare to annihilate the group. Thief use headshot (1/4 second daze). Great, it got interrupted, queen attacks and spits poison as soon the CD wears off from interrupting. Or ele prepares with icebow to use Deep freeze. Great, now spider completely unable to do anything for 5 seconds. See the difference?
Or let’s take another example with Magecrusher and Abomination. I’m sure you are familiar with both fights and their mechanics, so i don’t need to explain whats happening.
That boils down to encounter knowledge and general learn to play issues every time. Every. Time. Also …
It can be demoralizing especially if you have specialized in doing something a boss just utterly negates.
I really hope you don’t speak about CC, because the above reasons and you can’t even specialize into control, except with condi duration, but i guess you don’t want to cripple stationary bosses. The only situation where your complain can be true, is that dredge are immune to blind, but i guess it’s a fair thing from blind moles. Also the burning immunity on embers.
One other thing OP. Name me the encounters where it bothers you. Open world doesn’t count. I hope it makes sense even for you, that open world bosses that get zerged by 50,100 or even 150 people would be really vulnerable to perma CC therefore trivialize the fight even further.
@Noah:
See the beginning. And everybody replied with the same style.
“the system is bad, hurr durr, change the mindless 11111 spam”
Which is entirely not true. Go into details with the problem and the solution. Pating eachother back isn’t constructive nor helpful and OP’s suggestion is far from the best option. Defiance is fine, people need to learn how to use it properly and content needs to encourage the use of CC more in small scale fights.
Your turn guys.
ps: Mind you, you can set your auto-attack on auto CTRL + right click, so you don’t have to spam it.
I got a question. Would it be a DPS increase to use Arcing Slice on a single target if you do not have Berserker’s Might? It does almost 2X the damage of an auto-attack I believe
If you dont have that trait you probably use a pure axe build anyway.
Just stand outside the room, aggro everything, spiders and Spider Queen included, then stack in a corner outside the room. Spam all your skills, and she dies. Why go through so much trouble? It’s not exactly rocket science.
Exactly. The same tactics works as pre-patch. A single ele can carry the group with a little might stacking and if there is one competent player that can grab the other FGS and press one button.
Using a LoS spot to gather mobs together and using stability to not get annihilated is not an exploit … >.> Seriously, what will be the new mantra? Damage is exploit because it kills mobs? Greentyria will be formed and protest against players who kill innocent dragon minions?
Hi guys,
well, I had a very ‘funny’ or not, situation with one guy just a few minutes ago..
He ask me for 15 Gold if I want to go into his group and he will do everything alone… well… the rest you can see on the pic.. My question is: is it allowed or not? :/
Because basicly he may do alot of Gold, as he gets 15 Gold per player, 4 players = 60 Gold..
You did not read his LFG advertisement or joined without understanding what he asked and you come to the forums. Wow. Im impressed.
Why soloing instances wouldnt be allowed? If he manages to do it, good for him. Dungeons are made in a way that basically every meaningful reward pops up after the endboss is killed, so its a win-win situation for everyone.
Exploits on the other hand of course …
But if you are familiar with the dungeon itself, you can check it yourself that the opener did all the hardwork (waypoints are open or not) or glitched through it.
Im not sure as to WHY its an exploit.. possibly because it SHOULD BE impossible to solo group content without the use of exploits if the scaling/balancing is good.
I would have no problems if dungeons had a solo OPTION with down_scaled loot and, obviously without the ability to then sell party slots for ridiculous amounts of gold.
Envy is one of the 7 sins, dont do it mate.
You guys need to pay attention instead of being judging kitten hats. ALL the mobs were killed on the way, and oozes. No mobs spawned in the room and detha just stood in the center. I REPEAT FOR PEOPLE THAT CANT READ, NO MOBS SPAWNED IN THE ROOM, NO MOBS TO KILL DETHA. Glad to see Anet ever respond to any of these. Im not a kittening idiot, i know the tricks to reset kitten, it would be nice if this community was helpful for once. Instead of being useless.
Now go! Rant and make fun of me!!!!
Edit* i admit when i don’t know something, besides all the rage im spewing i thought id share some nubness… so i always wondered why people used this Annoying word [Kitten] i seen it in every other thread. I thought it was like a yolo swag kitten or something, but its actually the profanity filter. I never used any word to justify the use of kitten. Well idk thought id share in case someone else didn’t know about this.
Yeah, being an kitten solves everything, congratz.
Everybody told the solution, try to read them instead of raging on it, but i’ll write it again.
Kill the mobs and dont skip.
Well, another thread got necroed, so dont let this die too.
Did OP or anyone else for that matter got any feedback?
The lack of “use all” and “buy more” options are still a thing and i would die for trait templates.
Also, i dont remember who asked recently from ANet about the template thing, but some kind of equipment pool where only those weapons and armors appear what you use would be lovely. It drives me nuts when my Equipment tab is full of loot and i have to deal with finding what i need on the fly.
it’s funny, talking necro’s down while never showing any prove they suck, i have never had any problems with my necro and even outdamage the thief and mesmer at some points.
no support?……what do you do, spam 11111 all the time?
they have one of the best support in the game, L2P before talking a prof down.
no DPS?….yah sure, dagger necro is more powerful then dagger thief but sure, no DPS…..and yes, i do know how to play a necro, i have yet to see anyone to prove me wrong in PvE.
and no, i am not talking about zerging, that’s a really lame excuse to compare professions.sooo, are you saying your necro is great in dungeons?
-GMB
well yes, not solo and i don’t rush but i have kept teams alive where guardians failed…..true story…..
Please, continue to enlighten and entertain us, lesser beings.
How about droping the game until winter then? Maybe its enough time to clear your mind and realize those thing are already in game you wish for and neither you have to deal with the suggestions, so you wont upset yourself.
@thedaibish
I dont wanna to be forced to have one kind of composition if classes, but some roles who can make almost everyone, i have 6 char lvl 80 i dont wanna play all max dmg its too boring i’d like to switch for a different gameplay, a different purpose, or if someone wanna use just one char with different sets and build he can do it!!
For the endgame the real point is have something not so easy to reach but also not too difficoult i’ve gave some requirement for this reasons, but the points is to have also with different number of players, i’ve played other game had pve duo (2 players) 5 players and more… i’d like to see this with the mechanism purpose…
Some player write the game is boring, someone else write there is not endgame, others hate corners and zerk, others love it, i just wanna give everythings for all, ;f they dont wanna change dngeons we have its fine for me and for full zerk corner lovers, but they shoukd make with the new area and the new stats someing for all the players like me, isnt too satisfied of the state of the game, LS is funny but for 2 hours, then u understood its just another farming mode and it become repetitive… alot of players love it, others dont, and prefear to play some kind of repetible dungeons/raid as endgame with some skins as reward for example
You can buy PVT (soldier) gear with Badges of Honor too and facetank all day everyday. With the introduction of new Nomad stats (Toughness, Healing power, Vitality) you can deal even less damage now, check it out! I know, it sounds weird, but the game wont crash nor your hamster get killed if you equip other than Berserker stat gear in PvE.
Also you can try different game modes which completely change both your gaming and gearing experiences.
Also you can unequip skills that exploits makes encounters easier for your team and get totally useless ones. For example get Hallow ground for immersion purposes and roleplay that your pressence can cleanse the land even if you dont need stability at that particular fight.
Also you can make your own LFG with your own rules, so you can get likeminded people in your party. The kick option lets you get rid of unwanted elements too.
Also the lack of sub dont make you feel forced that you need to play GW2 to worth your money which you throw at developers every month. Summer is here, you can go outside with friends or grab another game while you wait for the content to devour.
What did i miss? Oh yes, a picture. Hugs and kisses.

People cant beat an afk range fight. This is the new low.
Right before the final fight the game teaches you how to handle his shield with sun aspect (target him, use the skill to hit him, OBVIOUSLY) which spawns just right behind you, so take two steps back, press 2 and range afk until he is dead. Gosh … People are just … arrrgh ….
He’s still a sponge for those of us who aren’t lolzerk hugedps classes. My necro has a choice of close range axe or melee daggers. This guy zips around platforms, dropping these massive bombs which can’t be dodged on the smaller ones and my axe can’t always be in range of him from the middle.
Can we fix the zerker meta yet?
You have a staff, scepter and death shroud, not to mention Lich form which is the 3rd highest damage option in the game after elementalists and thieves. A 900 range weapon can reach it anywhere, both staff and DS is 1200, your scepter is 900 and you can trait your wells to become ranged too. L2P
I found it funny how you despise zerkers, while running tanky build and not even know your class.
There is nothing to fix since nothing is wrong. It always boils down how uninformed players are.
- Dungeons that scale with the heroes inside, so that we can go 10 heroes together to do a extra difficult dungeon, but also go only 3, or even only 1 hero by himself. Add here multi-part dungeons.
A dungeon that scales wont be challanging if more people are inside. You just beat the same content with more people. Soloing current dungeons are actually a challange.
Hint. Current combat system cant support well 5+ member dungeon content.
- Dungeons, Fractals, and content in general that need (or at least, that prefer) different classes or different skills to be finished.
If you would do dungeons, fractals and content in general, you would know that its already true.
Let’s used other builds besides zerker.
Berserker gear aka “zerker” is you know, just a gear type, not a build.
- New races & classes. Admit it: everybody loves new races and classes.
New races are possible, but wont increase replayability. Classes are already covered or options can be expanded further by added weapons. Think about giving staff to rangers, which would make the more like druids.
- More epic storyline. I want another PS/LS quest line, one in which the character can feel like a hero. After a year or so without PS, and with LS where our heroism was secondary to that of the npcs, we need a chance to feel like the stars again.
Books and movies. Highly related
Talking about guilds, lets ask for the guild halls, or for a hero’s house. And let us create guild alliances.
Useless afk spots, which costs serious development time and resources. Just an opinion.
Personally i would prefer much higher (infinite?) member cap in each guild. Maximum of 500 members is really really small if some serious community want to jump on this game. Worth the reading. Page 38.
__________________________________________________________
To be on topic.
1. Bug fixes and class balance across all game modes over anything else.
2. Overhaul of the reward system across all game modes.
3. Increase the replay value across all game modes (more dungeons and open world encounters, new PvP maps, WvW … well, do something)
Zerker this, cornering that, meh. We heard that already. Next please.
Hopefully ANet come up with a fix, so solos are no longer possible.
You can’t be serious …
Yeah, she aims her pistol at you as she shoots instantly and then one shots you. Such an amazing tell!
Right at the start when Sandy enters the room. Its around 2 seconds. Learn to claim, dude.
The viewer numbers arent much better at pvp tournaments.
Since OP is more interested in an optimal approach, go for full berserker. Sure, you will go down until you get used to it, but it would be just a time / money waste going for other sets, if you change it later anyway.
This build looks so familiar. People made similar ones right at launch.
And i love how he traits for shield CD reduction, when off-hand sword has a block too but with half the cooldown by default.
It’s more like a weird PvP build, but not so good for PvE. Sorry mate, try again.
Yes, new mobs are annoying but guess what? I rather have this annoying mobs moving around than the ones we are used. I’m getting tired of fighting amoebas.
Eventually these aren’t better. If you just stand still they come back to the meatgrinder. Losing ranged ones will do the same. Its just another smart move to please the phiw crowd with “challanging” mobs.
I’m honestly not sure why anyone wouldn’t want rangers in there party (especially in dungeons). More then a few times I saved my whole party from total disaster by healing them, removing there conditions (healing spring/bear) & yes even taking hits in direct combat thanks to my celestial armor.
I do find it quite amusing when a whole party goes down & I’m the only one still standing because my pet is taking all the damage for me. This then allows me to run around & get my downed allies up again. Rangers are so versatile & useful, also from my experience the more of them you have the better.
Players easily forget that pets are literal meat shields that can both distract & keep foes away from the players themselves. When you have multiple party members whom are rangers try using say the Hyena…. You’ll easily have your foes outnumbered (with the F2 ability summon ally hyena) very quickly & the knockdown of the foe they cause is an added bonus.
One of the easiest dungeon runs I’ve ever had was with multiple rangers in my party in the Ascalon Dungeon. I think people are thinking too much about crunched numbers or maxed out conditions & when a certain number of a specific class is too many and counter productive.
Rangers can hold there own & are invaluable in both a support role & a direct dps role. There is no scenario I can envision where they wouldn’t be useful in some capicity. Try throwing some celestial armor on with Opal trinkets…. you’ll be able to take damage & be able to dish it out as well with chance to critical above 50%. Have fun & happy gaming =D
Mind you not everyone favors to range everything to death in tanky gear while the AI hold agro for them, but i agree a decent ranger who knows how to handle his/har class, including the pet of course, is a great addition to the group. With the meta build even with their lower damage (lower compared to what? eles? sure it is) the buff they can give via Spotter and Frost spirit make them worthwhile. Oh god and healing spring is just such a great heal skill. Add in reflect, various buffs and abilities from pets, a blast finisher with long lasting fury and swiftness, a hilariously OP burst option with Signet of the Wild, etc … Rangers are great. Players arent.
@OP
Make your own groups and hope for less ignorant people. :/ I actually like good rangers, but holy kitten they are so rare.
Don’t use zerkers- > done.
Did it on a zerker ele. Learn to play.
edit: Mist form and Obsidian flesh didnt worked tough, but still doable.
So thats why Izzy asked for new stat combinations a few months ago.
God, what have we done …
Is there a way to drastically lower the amount of spell effects that are displayed? Having a hard time reading tells when the boss is covered in guardian’s burning or other such thing and my mouse isn’t directly over it.
Sadly not. It bothers me too, especially when you have what feels like 5 different types of burning on a boss + a dozen other effects. Imo they should allow you to turn off effects you can see in the status bar of the enemy, that would help at least a bit.
Or completely remove guardians burning effect would be a good start to reduce the effect clutter. Same with explosions and flame effects. A single engi managed to drop my FPS in Arah to 10 while randomly throwing his stuff at the mobs and i have stable 60 FPS in dungeons. Even more without limiting it.
PUGs actually see a more rounded view of the game as they see all the problems that dungeons can pose, not perfect runs with best builds and well tried tactics.
You won the internet today. Check out the post above yours and reread it until you understand it why balancing for new players / noobs / pugs isn’t a good thing. Half of the pugs still want to roleplay healers and tanks in a game without the classical trinity. Just sayin’.
According to what you say, anet should ve not implemented LFG because you want to balance the game around the 5-6 PVE guilds around.
If you instead consider the average player, even with a decent knowledge of his profession it won t be able to achieve perfect party composition, won t have Always a guild party nor will have 8 identical weapons with dungeon sigils, and possible will have the same weapons (berserker with slightly suboptimal sigils) shared with WWW.
If you don t accept this try to imagine a guild wars 2 with 300 players…because itw what you are asking to balance around.
Skill floor is something to balance around in PvE.
PvE is not an esport
TKiller and maha was faster …
The balance or more likely the difficulty of the content leans towards the weakest denominator. The game isn’t punishing (enough) for not using meta or close to meta builds. Not punishing for not using might or vulnerability.
Raising the skill floor actually just raise the skill floor. So instead training the playerbase to be dumb sheeps and chanting the “auto attack is enough lol pve is easy ESPAHTZ!” mantra, content must be at least half decent in challange. The Crown pavilon was a great example again. People just zerged it mindlessly and got punished via less rewards.
Btw is the pvp of GW2 e-sports yet? Why not?
considering boons have such short range, I would make the assumption stacking was intended.
Lol ikr. That’s what runs through my mind most of the time when I read threads with people whining about this stuff.
Actually it goes well with the idea of being in melee is high risk high reward gameplay, while staying at range is low risk low reward.
Ball-up and AOE. The most /facepalm of ‘strategies’ in any proper MMO.
It it’s a facepalm strategy it wouldn’t work so well.
This stacking is the direct result of a design flaw. The game is made in such a way that stacking works exceptionally well.
So in the past decade tanks are design flaws or exploits in your opinion?
@Intuneric
It’s just a learn to play issue. Use aegis to prevent going down in the first place and everybody wins. Learning the fights, animations, etc. helps a lot in that.
Save it. Use it. Love it.

How bout stop trolling kthx
He isn’t trolled, just gave some proper advice to you. But if you like to play in a bad way, go on …
There are actually 2 champion giants. One in Harathi Hinterlands and one in Diessa Plateau.
I also killed a few in Brisban for an event called Broken Golem.
That event can scale up actually and it would spawn 4-5 giants if there are enough people around. If you are lucky you can do simultaneously 2 other events on other servers via guesting. Just start it, kill giants, guest, repeat.
-snip-
People like OP, please stop spreading wrong information and implying that they are facts just because “this guy says this in this guide” and “this guy in my guild said this” while not at the very least having rough confirmation of evidence on your own.
While i agree with you, from the OP’s staindpoint neither of us have right. We are just random people saying random things. If OP accept it as an advice or a fact, good for him. If not, well … Just check the first post and that link in it. :/
1. So much false information in your first post.
2. Abandon bad pugs.
3. Make your own groups.
4. ???
5. Profit.
ps: Brace yourselves. Summer is coming.

I am already starting to see the “lfg…no mesmer” around, all over the dungeons, where I am wondering…is ANet trying to slowly get rid of every profession (PvE wise) outside war, ele, guard so that they don’t need to try anymore to balance the others to the Sacred 3?
Wait until FGS gets nerfed and pugs abandon ele too.
If you want a proof that he still doing biased and inaccurate tests, than this video is good. Otherwise not.
As Wasbunny mentioned, Necromancers utility or the lack of it is the real problem in group content, not their damage output.
Asura defensive golem works too.
Zojja is not even good enough for being an ordinary FGS dispenser.
Btw if i remember right Rytlock hacked the data files and used an unavailable spear so he should get reported and banned for abusing the game.
The problem with that is. Would it be worth it?
That is exactly it.
The only reason defensive capabilities aren’t desireable right now is because it doesn’t make things faster, and for many people speed is all that matters.
So how would adding these defensive capabilities increase speed?
I can’t really understand this logical approach. Is this a thing for people or it is just me who can’t get it?
It’d increase ease of play sure. But, Defensive gear already does that. So wouldn’t the proposition of upgrading that just be making the game easier for those that didn’t care about speed?
This here. And this is what defensive gear and builds should do and actually doing it right now. There is no logical reason for making the killing time of a full defensive build even comperable to a full offensive one.
Defensive approach of combat reduce the risk or actually completely remove it and “punish” you with slow kills. Is it fair? Hell yes. You want to finish content faster becase [reasons]? Get better in offensive builds until you can do it without any passive defense.
I play both classes, normally I don’t like going on the game forums because people love to deny hard facts, but as a warrior, I’m able to deal 12k damage while wielding soldier armor and blasting a hundred blades.
while wielding soldier armor
soldier armor
soldier
Why you try to express your opinion (opinion=/=facts) when you have less experience in PvE than half of this thread?
edit:
If you want to run a berserker guardian, go ahead because I’m sure I won’t care. I’ll just keep in mind that unlike me you’ll be the one who dies a lot more often, and you’ll be the one who wont fully fulfill your role but only partially and make it look like you did.
You should. Blind and blocks still reduce incoming damage by 100% if you wear berserker gear.
edit2:
And now you try to correct colesy about game mechanics. How cute.
(edited by Dalanor.5387)
Agreed. It’s indeed a pity that Gw2, like other games, has very static and predictable dungeons that make speedrunning very viable after a while, with so many walkthroughs and vids on wiki’s and youtube.
Every PvE content is predictable, due to it’s static nature. It’s an MMO, not an FPS multiplayer game.
I’m always hoping some game developer or other designes dungeons with randomized groups of mobs and bosses – to make it a different challenge every time.
One can hope …
So you kill AC troll with every random pug whenever it spawns? Sure.
