It is important because DS is supposed to be a defensive/offensive skill. It is something you pop in at the right moment, to apply damage, or to protect yourself. If you’re in DS for like 100% of the time during dungeons, what would be the point? Why would anyone ever leave Death Shroud then?

Also, our 1-attack in DS does a ton of damage. No necro should be able to infinitely spam it. DS should run out eventually.

I get the trading the defense for offense, but for the later you leave DS which leaves you vulnerable to high damage for 7-10 seconds.
The point is its another weapon, with different traits and mechanics like vuln / might stacking, piercing and so on.
It does, but my dagger auto does more and i dont need any resource for it. I spam it infinitely and it cant run out. Okay, the melee range means more risk, but it works.

Can you explain why is it important?
If you can sit in DS and range stuff without get any damage, good luck. DS traits also encourages to just flashing in and out, so i dont get it why it could be a problem.

What about you cant lose more than 10% of your lifeforce in one hit. Add in an ICD (Anet loves icd) maybe and also get rid of the natural degen.

Yeah even for a Meatshield thanks to no sort of Toughness boost while being inside Death Shroud you can still very easily be nuked out of it and then you have NO defense bar maybe a few very high cool down cost skills.

Actually it has a built in 50% damage reduction, but bugged as kitten so doesn’t really matter.

Punish yourself for no reason, while you need to stay in any fight because you know we have 0 mobility skills. Big no no.

Devs should check the beta necro again and adjust it to the current gamefield. As already mentioned in many threads, we need Shade in some way (yeah, i know, thats an op trait, but CC is too dangerous for us, when everybody else just jumps around without drawbacks) and better synergy between our HP and LF to sustain ourselves in fights.

Why does every class forum think their class is terrible and super neglected? its pretty interesting.

Yeah, its really funny seeing warriors complaining about how unviable they are and how low damage they have. I smiled until realized they arent trolling. They were serious.

But to be on topic, this skill is objectively … bad? Terrible? Kitten?
I wish sometimes a dev come here and make a thread about that “Guys, we have literally no idea how to make this class better, to fit our design. Please help, i will check back later.” … A man can dream.

Fun fact that this exact idea came up(mark a target, siphon health from it), when devs let the playerbase think about our DS#5 skill.

Devs don’t care about PvE or WvW class balance.

All the attention is on the PvP forum where people just constantly whine and post nerf xxx threads instead of learning how to counter something…

If you think about it thats not a stupid thing. WvW is az unbalanced mess, the only thing that really matter for the individiual is mobility. Which we dont have and wont have. End of story.

PvE can be balanced by encounters. Which still dont happens. And with the 24/7 warrior favoritism (admit it, its true in PvE), gimmicky mechanics of guardians and mesmers it wont happen soon.

Are they not aware that dungeon parties are specifically stating that they don’t want any necros in their party? This isn’t just happening because these parties are made by jerks. There are good reasons to discriminate against necromancers in PVE.

This is what happens when you play “non-meta” classes.
This happens when you play the meta.
Need i say anything else?

ps: All the players are beyond the average pug, so the first one not even as bad as it could be.

I personally feel that Death Shroud should feel threatening. When ever a necro enters Death Shroud, it should be something to fear, and not something to obliterate in one second with focused fire. I think our damage output should be bigger in DS, and our defense should be better.

Totally agree with you. Take a look at the skills.
1. Slow as hell, unlike the underwater Life blast. That feels like the machine gun of death. Gimme gimme!
2. A slow (how surprising, isnt it?) projectile gap closer. Meh.
3. An instant single target fear, which can be casted under CC. Great! For us, everybody else hates it, because it has no counterplay.
4. Nearly our only LF sustain, which is slow (cmoooon …) channeled ability, thus interruptable.
5. I dont even want to comment this. An aoe pull with added chill / immob would be lovely, but oh well …

DS is a damage sponge and doing the same as Lich form, turns us into a “SPIKE THAT THING DOWN!” sign … :/

The active part is per hit. And also for allies. Just depends on ICD and duration.

The duration is 5s, its mentioned in the ign link. An icd would be just stupid, since it cant (?) stack from multiple sources.

As wiki states, “minions only inherit the necromancer’s Condition Damage, Condition Duration, and Boon Duration attributes” and sadly its true.

On hit effects are bad because of our vulnerability to CC. Now with this signet even if we eat the punishment, it heals us. Sadly it won’t do anything while sitting in DS, which is bad, but at least it gives some group heal without screwing up waterfields with our well.

Suggestion for dark path

DP is already one of the best 2-3 spells we have. Its fine as is, and doesn’t need to be OP.

The only gap closer that can be dodged and it needs a target …. and its projectile based. Even if it’s “one of the best 2-3 spells we have” it’s still one of the worst spells in the game.

Change it back to how it worked in beta ggkkthxbye.

How do i beat a Warrior?

Defeating a warrior is possible IF they stay and fight for the full duration. How do you guys pin down a warrior long enough to kill him if he specced for mobility? A necro’s lack of mobility and lack of disengages will always makes us inferior unless we are defending or taking a point or we have allies help force an enemy to engage in battle.

Think. What’s a disadvantage for a warrior ?
• CONDITION REMOVAL ! (Unless specced for it / runes of the soldier)
We as necros can apply : CRIPPLE CRIPPLE more CRIPPLE + Decent amount of ways to ‘chill’ them – We can also provide some nice immobilize / fear (ever feared a warrior during gs 5 or sword 2 ? Hilarious n.n )
Make advantage of our condition applying !

And the warrior will bless your name for the insane amount of soft CC you put on him, Dogged March says hi!

Hundred blades seemed a bit off to me, so i chekced the wiki. The coefficient there is 4.4 which is HUUUUUGE, even for a warriror, so the two links above maybe incorrect. Or the wiki. But axe are bad anyway, without looking into stats or anything.

We get a signet heal with 0.001% of the warriors healing capabilities and without any healing power scaling. Or a spectral with zero to nothing LF gaining.

That’s how playing other classes is starting to feel versus playing Necromancer. Nice to see from the upcoming balance preview that my decision to swap to Mesmer months ago was well justified.

Just a sidenote. Many months ago i get bored with condi builds so i swaped to dagger / warhorn power builds. And i was like “whaaaaaaaat i can do da damagez?!” … Soon after i created a warrior, running around, leveling and when it felt at lvl30 that i outdamage my necro … I cried inside. Im overwhelmed of shame that i still like this class for no reason.

A bad timing on the PS pulse can literally kill you.

Thats why i rolled with guardian, where i dont even need to retrait for condition removal from my team mates. More options with half of the cooldown.

As i mentioned in another thread, deathshrouds in built extra damage reduction don’t work, if the received damage is greater than your current life force. See post below and the comment after mine too.

I took ~16k damage to my normal hp and about half of that in DS, as it should. However when my LF degened below 8k i got a full 16k damage which overflowed to normal hp without any reduction. Please investigate it. If its intended, inform the players about it.

Did a little testing again.
1: Step on the mine in necro form.
2: Step on the mine with full LF.
3&4: Step on the mine with ~50% LF.

Conclusion: If the hit cant be absorbed fully it spill over to our regular hp, but without any reduction. Am i right or i missed again something?

Dhuumfire was introduced to give necroes some extra damage. “OMG its stupid nerf it!” said the players. Well, learn to play and get more cleanse, said necromancers.
And the almighty nerfbat slaped us in the face, because nobody need to learn to play.

Aaaaand who cares about boons? The fury doesnt bother me on them. Or actually anything, that isnt protection and its still not a big deal. The 20 stack bleed however … But since Putrid mark went on a trip under the nerfbat and Null Field is still superior compared to Well of Power, well yeah, we are screwed.
I only hope the lvl30+ area will have some nice changes and no more reflect / stability favor.

Also devs should remove the passive bleed activation (minor traits, non-power based skills), so the “dedicated” condi classes get a bit more space in smaller fight IF they spec for condi.
Also traits / skills like Warriors Attack of Opportonuty should be a great to spread around classes, so the passive extra dmg from condi characters would be wellcomed. We already have something with guardians, they get bonus against burning targets, but they already can keep up perma burning, so its not the best example.
Imagine if Mesmers would deal less confusion (just an example, dont get mad), but get a bonus from a trait if the target has confusion on them (in power build of course), Engies would be more wellcomed in groups since they apply vulnerability, bleed, poison and all kind of stuff with no effort.
Currently the only condi you want on your enemy is vulnerability, but it can be capped on bosses in seconds and sustain it for a relatively long time.

edit: Oh i forgot Target the weak … I dont feel its fair that we need 5 conditions on the target to get a 10% damage bonus, while others only need bleed / burning, which happens every time you look on a boss with any group.

Drop damaging wells and pop Lich form. You get increased stats upon transformation and your wells will hit hard like a truck on streoids.
The dark path thingy is maybe the trick with critters? Just target a white bunny, throw your dark path at it and you have an escape move.
Marks still triggers when somebody dodges trough them, thus making them useless.
