I’m aware that the current state of Racial Skills is to make them greatly underpowered so Class skills will be favored over them. I can see the logic behind this, but I’d still like to see SOME use out of these unique skills every so often.

What I don’t want to see is “Every guardian should be a norn because of x skill” or such, but I feel there’s still a nice happy medium between that, and the current state of racial skills.

Currently, most of them go like this:
Hounds of Balthazzar: 30 second duration, 240 CD, 12.5% Uptime
Charzooka: 20 seconds(?), 180 CD, 11% Uptime
Golems: 40 seconds, 180 CD, 22% Uptime

I’ve never seen a Char use a Charzooka, or a Human summon up a Hound or use Grenth. Everyone once in a blue moon I see a Norn transform into a Bear, but it’s mostly just to charge away from a fight in hilarious fashion.

I’m proposing that these Elite skills, that see so little use, get a drastic cooldown reduction, so they might see a bit more play in PvE and WvW

I’ve been reading up on the news lately, and I’ve seen mention of new class skills and traits, that will be unlocked by completing specific goals and events around the world. Obviously this is subject to change, and far down the road at best, but regardless I can’t help but feel excited!

So let’s set aside all the trolling/buffnerf/opup mayhem for now, and brainstorm up various ideas! Who knows, maybe one of them will even inspire an actual in-game skill, eh?

1. Shout Out
I’d love to see an elite shot make it’s way onto our skill list. My ideas include “ON YOUR FEET!” Which rallies the closest downed person, “CHAAARGE!” which provides AoE Swiftness and Stability and “FACE ME COWARDS!” which inflicts AoE cripple.

2. All Manners of Banners
Either a trait that allows for a banner to be worn on ones back, or a portable version that functions like an engy kit, toggle on/off.

3. Adrenaline Rising!
I’d love to see the addition of new depth and complexity to our adrenaline/burst mechanic. Not a buff to power, but more options available. Ideas include:
An F2 based on your offhand weapon
An F3 general skill regardless of weapon
An F4 transformation skill that uses your adrenaline bar as it’s duration

4. For the Traiter Good
New traits that provide more fun options, including:
Alternatives to Reckless Dodge, Thick Skin, Revivers Might
Defensive Bursts-Grand Master Defense: Gain 1.5 seconds of protection per adrenal bar spent.

Add your own ideas!

Virtually everyone in here is telling you this is a L2P issue. It’s obviously not what you want to hear, since you keep getting enraged after every reply, but sometimes the truth hurts man.

Mace stun builds are solid, but there’s a difference between being solid, and OP. If in fact there was no counterplay, then you’d be correct, it would be OP.

There is a counter play.

It’s not even that hard! I’ve had other warriors try this build on me, and I can avoid it, and I ain’t all that great at this game. You simply seem to be unwilling to see that there might actually be a counter. Instead, you pretend that there is none, and then use that willful ignorance to claim this build should not exist.

That’s kitten insane man. Literally. No, really. I mean it.

The definition of insanity is to repeat the same actions and expect a different result.

In other words, headbutting that Mace Warrior without a stunbreak (or wasting the break) and expecting him NOT to stun you is absurd. It has few gap closers. It lacks ranged attacks entirely. It lacks immob/chill. It has a single cripple, GS 4, which is easily dodged at range. It’s mostly single target (bodyblocking). Skullcrack is the only move not easily dodged, and the only move worth stunbreaking.

And by the way…..

Healing Signet got buffed, because it needed it. It’s advantages are it has a high throughput over time (HP/s), and cant be interrupted. The downsides are that it’s weak against burst damage (in a 10 second battle its only worth 3920 health, while most other burst heals would be more in the 7-8k range, for example guardians Resolve Signet), and weak against high poison uptime.

ALSO Keep in mind, that Warrior heals may seem powerful at a glance… but then remember that other classes get their #6 AND some other form of sustain. Warriors for the longest time, only had a #6.

Wars still only have #6 now, but it’s been buffed to compensate for the lack of a secondary sustain mechanic. Hybrid Warriors suffered poor sustain since launch, and have only had actual good sustain for like a week, so dont ruin it for us!

Edit: There’s also food that drastically decreases damage taken while stunned. Anyone can take advantage of this fact.

Friend, I think you just need more time against it.

I think defektive puts it best.

Let me give you a short GW2 history lesson.

Any GW2 vet can remember a time when Bulls+Frenzy+100b was “teh lulz” but the meta evolved as it always does. People realized that this build is a 1 trick pony, easy to kite, dodge, stunbreak, etc.

The meta was recently ruled by thief and mes…. and then condi necros rolled in, and they were “OP!!!1!!1one!!!” because they hard countered the thief/mes meta.

So condi builds became the new meta. That is, till people started realizing that certain builds (condi fall-offs, stuns) hard counter condi builds. Eventually as the meta shifts even more, stun builds may be the new meta….and soon after, be hard countered by something else which becomes the new meta….. and then that counters counter becomes the new meta….. and then that counters counters counter will be the new meta… and then……

There should be class/race based mounts!

Anyway, I think mounts are cool, but not really needed in this game. We have waypoints for long distance, and swiftness for hoofing it.

And IF they ever add mounts, they should just be a non-combat perma-swiftness buff at most, which would make them largely aesthetic.

How does a thief go against it? Short bow? have you tried kiting a war.

I think what you meant to ask was:
How does a class with Stealth, Extremely High Mobility, and a weapon with a Teleport, kite someone who has 1 gap closer (rush) on a 20 second cooldown?

Obviously the answer is to buff Thieves.

PS: If he has Regen Signet, he’s weaker vs spike damage. If he has Surge, he’s weaker vs attrition. And if he has mending, he’s weaker vs both (but strong vs condis). I shouldn’t even need to say this.

Remove 1 sec on the Pommel and thats still essentially 7 secs of stun on an insanely low cooldown.

Pommel is a 1 second daze, but it’s not a stun, meaning its better used to interrupt heals, and lengthy skills.

Also, stop rounding up.

SkullCrack 3 * 1.15 = 3.45
Shield 1*1.15=1.15

The game rounds up when DISPLAYING duration on your buff/debuff bar, but not when actually CALCULATING duration. Try it out. You can easily get buffs that display 8 1/2 seconds on your tooltip after buff duration, but they’ll show as 9 for that 1/2 second in your active buff area, before dropping to 8 seconds.

So that’s 4.6 of stun. Not 7. But dont forget, Skullcrack has a 1/2 animation time, same with shield, so if you subtract that, you’re down to 3.6 stun time during which you’re actually at risk for taking damage. AND Shield bash is generally a waste to stunbreak, since it’s mostly to set up for a followup skull crack or to interrupt a skill.

Stunbreak the followup skullcrack and dodge roll. Know your enemy, and be prepared.

Same as when a Thief goes poof, he’s PROBABLY going to backstab you soon, be ready to defend yourself. When an elementalist charges towards you as a ball of lighting and then channels an earth AOE, he’s PROBABLY trying to knock you down and then hit you hard. Stunbreak and dodge.

I have other warriors do this to me all the time. I pop a stunbreak, keep stability up when they are trying to lock me down, and stomp their predictable butts into next week.

Im not sure what guards do when defending walls other than throw up wall of reflect and spam buffs for people. I need to look into this more.

Guards: Throw up reflections, bubbles, shields, lines, whatever you got. Give your allies a safe spot on the wall to attack from. Use your scepter AOE, it hits quite hard. Scepter auto is sort of a bust however. I’m told your Guard offensive book elite works through gates with some clever targeting. Never tried it myself. Also keep a stability button available in case they pull you down, so you can dive back into the portal.

Warriors: Longbow. Seriously, longbow from the wall. One of the better siege/anti-siege options out there. Arcing arrow AOE hurts, Burst AOE Fire Field damage, Fast Adrenaline generation. Keep a stability button (same reason).

Either: Leap down into the enemy zerg to cause a little pain, CC, and distraction (so your teammates can get shots in from the wall while they focus you) and then use your escape plan to dive back through the Portal. Wait for your escape plan to come off of cooldown, and repeat.

Your escape plan should include plenty of blocks, invulnerable, and stability, otherwise its just a foolish suicide mission. For a Warrior, equip Death from Above trait, Stomp, Endure Pain, and Balanced Stance. For Guard, Shelter 6, Invul elite (forgot name), etc.

Focus on the Ram users. Every second you keep them off their rams, is a second they’re effectively standing around with their thumbs up their rear. If you can coordinate several bunkers all leaping down at the same time, and then your allies raining AOE from the walls, you can really slow a zergs progress with inferior numbers.

There’s too much exaggeration to tell you what he’s running, and if we don’t know what he’s running, we can’t tell you how to counter him.

Sure we can: Stunbreak and Dodgeroll. The bottom line is he took a stun, and ate a channeled, self root move.

OP, For the record:
Sword has no stuns.
Mace has a 3s single target stun that uses all adrenaline.
Shield has a 3 second single target stun, on a fairly decent cooldown.
PVT Warriors cant do 13k hundred blades. Even if you were pure glass (and deserved to be easily downed), he had to be wearing at least some zerker gear, meaning he runs the same risk.

Show me a screenshot or video, or anything otherwise I cant help but feel you’re grossly misrepresenting the entire situation.

Warrior Or Thief?

Warrior
Pros: High health to survive spike damage. Moderate sustain. Solid melee DPS, melee CC, and ranged DPS options. Good mobility. Good as roamers, Good Small Group, Excellent zergers.
Cons: Low damage avoidance, some weapons over specialize (no versatility) or under perform.

Thief
Pros: Excellent “surprise” spike damage, backstab, etc. Incredible mobility. Moderate sustain. Excellent as roamers, Excellent small group, Poor zergers. Easy to disengage and escape (stealth).
Cons: Poor survival vs spike damage (inc spike=GTFO immediately), less viable ranged options.

So it’s a matter of personal choice. I’d say the two classes are quite balanced in regards to one another currently. Thieves make better WvW solo/roam/havocs but Warriors can still perform those roles with a little effort, and make much better zergers.

In PvE, Warriors are slightly better than Thief overall, simply because the Stealth mechanic is amazing in PvP/WvW but underwhelming in PvE. Zerker War vs Zerker Thief will both output excellent DPS, however a warrior facetanks better with high HP, and endure pain. I would be okay with a PvE version of Stealth getting a large duration buff, long as it didn’t affect WvW/PvP.

I’d love a slow hammer-like weapon that focuses on large, devastating strikes as opposed to CC. You can still move while hitting, but all strikes are telegraphed.

You realize, this would make a 2H axe a “noob splitter” with new or inexperienced PvP players not dodging the attacks and getting trucked, while Pro’s and Vet’s will laugh as a 2H Axe warrior struggles to land even a single hit?

Greataxe
1. Gash, Rend, Dismember: Gash/Rend: Damage and randomly apply Bleed 10s, or Cripple 2s. Dismember: Heavy Damage, Blast Finisher 50%. CT 1/2, 1/2, 3/4

2. Assault: Leap at target foe, bashing it with the hilt of your Greataxe and stunning it for 1 second, range 600, CD 14. Leap Finisher.

3. Broad Sweep: Damage, and knockback, all foes in a cone, Range 300, CT 3/4, CD 8

4. Split the Ranks: Evade and leaps to target location, inflicting AoE damage and fear 2s to all enemies within the radius, Range 600, CD 20. Leap Finisher.

5. Devastate: Damage and Launch all foes in a short cone in front of you. CD 25

F1: Ancient Destruction: Gain stability 3s, and perform 6 devastatingly powerful whirling strikes hitting all foes (up to 5) in a radius. Each hit causes immobilize for 1/2. Channeled 3 Seconds (one strike every 1/2), can move while channeling, and Damage increases with Adrenal level. Whirl Finisher.

Trait: Greataxe Mastery: 20% CD, each bleed on your opponent counts as a stack of vulnerability, increasing by 1% the damage your greataxe inflicts.

Defektive's "How To": 1v1 a (good) Thief

I use Earthshaker (even with 1 adrenaline bar, good damage) when I see a shadow refuge.
If used with more than 1 adr bar, Fierce Blow and/or Staggering Blow to knockback the thief out of SR.

Sometimes I use Earthshaker in my position when I feel incoming stealth thief burst.

Thats good, staggering blow has a pretty good chance to push them out of it.

That’s always my favorite, I get so much joy out of seeing a Thief suddenly become visible as he gets knocked just outside his ring

Honestly I feel it really comes down to skill and build versus thieves now. Before I had a problem with Thieves hitting and running, attritioning me while they were immune to such, but since the sustain was tuned up, they cant just wear me down while they regen to full each encounter. Even when I lose, I really feel like I simply got outplayed rather than being out class mechanic’d now.

Sigh. HP and HP/s are different. No wonder you’re raging, you’ve even got the basic terminology all wrong.

HP is Health Pool (or points, depending on who you ask. whatever.) Yes we have the highest base Health Pool. Means nothing for long term sustain, just spike damage.

HP/s is “Heal Points per second.” Its a measure of how much raw healing one can generate if broken down. Healing Signet is easy, as it heals every second. Healing Surge, and most heals really, are also easy, simply divide its Heal Value by its cooldown.

Run Healing Signet, Shout Healing, Adrenal Health, Soldier Runes, Clerics Gear, and eat Mango Pies. Use a Hammer+Mace/Shield. You will have kitten amounts of Sustain, in terms of raw healing, condi removal, and all the time your opponent spends stunned, or gets blocked/countered, IE not hitting you.

The only drawback is your damage will be low… but you cant have EVERYTHING at once.

Do your homework.

Actually I came up with an alternative that MIGHT be win-win, a “balanced” instant killshot .

Holding down F1 charges up the skill.

-Tapping F1 uses a single adrenaline bar, and does appropriate damage. CT 0 to 3/4
-Holding F1 a little, uses 2 bars, inflicting damage to match. CT 3/4 to 1 3/4
Holding F1 till it’s fully charged and fires on it’s own, uses all 3 bars and does maximum damage. CT 1 3/4

There, you have your insta-kill shot. It inflicts 1 bar worth of damage, uses 1 bar worth of adrenaline, and actually adds more depth and gameplay to the rifle. If you think someone is going to dodge your shot, you can release F1 early and abort to a weaker version of the attack, possibly catching them off guard, and getting in your hit at the cost of lower damage.

It’ll also be more worthwhile to use at lower adrenal levels. While it does hit hard at 3, I do admit I never cast it below 3 because it’s not worth the cast time/animation.

Kill-shot should be instant cast.

An instant killshot would end up with the exact same potential for zerker 1-shots in PvP or WvW. Full glass, fury sig+insta-killshot. The only place no one would care would be PvE, because you’re just shooting at pre-programmed loot pinatas.

We have poor sustain still, a lot of our traits have been moved and changed and are not very good.

I would like our healing traits to have synergy, like the Guardian/Elementalist/Ranger’s healing abilities do.

I didn’t say we were perfect and should never be adjusted again forever!

What I said was, we need to settle down and see how this latest adjustment plays out. Give it some time. See how the meta evolves. It’s an 8 person game of RPS.

See, everyone was throwing Paper (evade thief/mes) for so long, that eventually some Scissors (condi necro/engi) players came along and started cleaning up. But sure enough, it’s time for us Wars to show up with a friggan Rock, and Pain on their parade. Not a typo

We asked for Sustain.
The devs increased our sustain.
Was the increase too little? Too much? Who knows?!?
It’ has not been long enough yet to make a fair assessment, not by you, or me or even the devs.

Making it instant would literally wipe out all the Cons.

As a main Warrior, I’d go for a “Commander” Warrior build. Hammer/Longbow/Shout Healing. Too lazy to do gear on that site, but Clerics, with Soldiers runes.

Hammer is a solid group melee weapon, Earthshaker, Hammer Shock, etc.

When you get into a siege/siegebreak, or a zerg vs zerg standoff, Longbow is where it’s at. Good adren from auto, Arc arrow is strong and can be used with fire field for AOE might, burst is excellent damage and a fire field.

Shouts can buff, heal, shed condis, for you and your zerg, and will build up adrenaline for more earthshakers or longbow fire fields.

Give it a try.

No one says you’d have to actually press them, I’ll gladly teach you how to unbind keys

Personally I’m quite happy that our sustain was given a good hard look at. I’d guess that it’ll be a long time till we get any other major changes or reworks, however.

Adding a whole new set of F skills for each weapon set would awesome…. and probably a much bigger undertaking than it sounds too.

Banners have powerful and potent effects, but… their clunky use make them generally more of a hassle than they’re worth.

I’ve long been saying Banners should work like Engy Kits (swap to and from the banner) or like Engy toolbelt (Extra F key).

I feel that 100b could be updated more simply to allow movement during the move, except inflicting 1/2 damage while on the run. Do you choose to remain still and get the extra DPS? Or to reposition and do half damage on the next hit or two?

Arcing slice is sort of an anomaly among burst skills. It does slightly less damage than auto attacking a single target, regardless of adrenaline level. It also has the downside of only hitting a single target, whereas auto can hit up to 3. The fury is alright, and syncs up well with forceful greatsword, but if you’re running SoR and FGJ though, the last thing you really need is more fury. Overall its not terrible, but it’s not worth using unless you’ve got nothing better to do with the adrenaline.

People have discussed moving 100b to the F1 button for ages now, but at this point I’d rather just see 100b allow movement at the cost of DPS, and have arcing slice updated to be a 1s knockdown (matching the overhead swing animation) or small launch (matching the uppercut skill description). That might be sorta OP however….

With all due respect, this is a false logic.
The aforementioned method is only viable under heavy fire and is only good for surviving, nothing else. The necro sitting in DS can’t do much anyway – no utilities, no weapon sets therefore no on-swap sigils, etc.

Well I did preface it with saying I dont main necro ^^; Mines an external point of view. It comes from my experience fighting against, not playing as.

I do dislike that utility skills get locked during a DS transform. The transform itself also seems to degen so fast in combat, between the natural loss and incoming damage. It’s part of why I never really went anywhere with a Necro alt. Not really my cup o tea, just trying to help with some ideas

For raw melee DPS, you’ll want to run Greatsword. PvE foes are teh stupid, and will stand still for 100b, which does tremendous damage.

Axe mainhand does nice damage. The burst is strong. Offhand can be defensive (shield) utility (warhorn) or more offense (axe or mace). For wandering around in PvE I actually love Axe/Warhorn, Axe puts out all the damage you need vs PvE mooks, and Warhorn lets you run around a lot faster with swiftness if you didnt get war sprint trait.

Hammer is more of a PvP weapon. It’s DPS is middle of the road, but its control (stun/knockdown/knockback) is what makes it powerful. In PvE it’s decent but just not the best.

2. “Zergers”
Death Shroud itself melts in zerg fights. It did pre-patch, it does now. I don’t care if you’ve fixed a bug and tanks to that we have more effective HP in DS. Extra HP is only extra HP in the end of the day, not a mitigating/evading mechanic like channeled blocks/aegis/invuln./mist form/etc.

I dont main a necro but the problem as I see it, is that if DS is buffed for WvW/PvE it becomes OP in sPvP. Therefore one solution could involve providing a form of mitigation that scales with the number of hits taken within a small timeframe, IE when you’re being AOE’d, Zerg’d or focused.

Every time you’re struck by direct damage, gain 1 stack of a new buff, Deaths Resolve. Every second, clear all stacks, and gain 2% life force for every stack beyond the first.

I am happy with the new changes made with this patch but feel we still need more help in other areas.

Right now the tactics trait line needs some additional love.

Our default traits in that line all revolve around reviving someone

So I often compare my Knights-Hybrid-War to my friends Knights-Hybrid-Guard, and as of the last patch, im (still) dealing slightly more damage, but now sustaining only slightly worse (before I was sustaining notably worse). He brings more defensive utility (protection, regen) but I bring more offensive utility (fury, might).

All in all I feel pretty kitten balanced when standing shoulder to shoulder with him now.

The other War stuff I’m interested in seeing are
-Banners made less clunky (worn on back, or ‘follow’ the warrior like a pet somehow)
-F2 skills based on offhand
-Cleanup of some clunky/unresponsive/slow skills like Final Thrust_

BUT while there’s still plenty I’d like to see done for warrior, after addressing our single largest concern (sustain), we’re probably best off sitting back and letting the meta evolve a bit. After the smoke clears, we can re-evaluate, and see where we stand.

Bullsh*t.

Naysayer. Did you think they could magically fix every error/bug/imbalance in a single pass? This was a big step in the right direction.

-Condi access via Torment
-Rampage revamp
-Cleanup for Bulls/GSRush
-Fixed the Hammer 4 bug

And possibly the single largest Warrior issue (IMHO anyway): Warrior Sustainability!

I for one, am eager to see how these changes play out. This may actually resolve, or come very close to resolving, the issues that non-zerker warriors face with health pool attrition issues, and condi-removal.

Remember, a linear increase in balance issues tend to result in an exponential decrease in viability. What’s that mean? That means by fixing the Warrior sustain, it may greatly alleviate some of the pain from other issues as well.
