I read the tablets thanks to a poster on reddit. Link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/53pduh/spoiler_tablets_of_the_unseen/

This is a complete blatant and terrible retcon, or the tablets are 100% lies. But if there is no point for such HUMONGOUS lies to be written for themselves.

  • First off, every piece of lore we have – Seers, Priory Scholar, and Ree Soesbee and Jeff Grubb directly – state that the Seers were wiped out by the mursaat. The mursaat tablets claimed that they fell to civil war and killed themselves (that’s what the jotun did, you golden dunces).
  • Second, the Crystal Desert didn’t even exist back then. It didn’t exist until Year 0, long after mere “centuries after 10,000 years ago”.
  • Where was the supposed betrayal by the mursaat – the one that involved them committing genocide? According to the tablets, they set out for war but was ignored by the others, then left the world. There was no betrayal, according to the tablets every race hid in their own way. There’s no act that could possibly be seen as betrayal by the other races in the mursaat tablets.
  • Addendum to above, all lore – again, from Priory scholars and the developers directly, and ancient dwarven, ancient Forgotten, ancient jotun and even Glint herself; the very foundation of the lore provided for why all the races speak the same language – is that the surviving races were hidden by Glint – so how could they have hidden in separate ways?

If this was a similar but not the same retelling of what we knew, then it could be easily passed as mursaat lies to themselves. But this? We’re getting two different stories in the same setting. It’s like watching the Hobbit movies and reading the Hobbit book. Vastly different, though same overarching plotline.

ArenaNet, you did so well with Episode 1. Even the things that initially made no sense was explained in a perfectly believable way. It was your redemption from Season 1 and HoT’s sad storytelling.

But then we get this…

And turning Lazarus to be a good guy makes no sense, not after he swore eternal revenge on countless generations of humanity and asura-kind. But I’ll reserve that full judgement to playing through the main storyline.

And though not lore, the mursaat outfit + backpiece… -sigh- obvious money getting move is obvious. Would be nice to have a foe that’s humanoid and is fully unique for once. Should have been Lazarus, but screw uniqueness and screw continuity, I’m guessing?

Yeah, I’m a bit stingy. This and Dhuum are the plots I was really looking forward to being closed, was promised years ago “epic plans” and now we get a “screw old lore, we’re changing it all”.

I recommend you go back and read those tablets again. Nowhere do they mention that the Seers had a civil war.

I’m not sure I’d cite Foefire magic as countering dragon corruption – Ascalonian ghostfire in the PS pretty much destroyed indiscriminately.

Actually, I was ferring to how Ascalonian ghosts are the one thing that Kralkatorrik’s corruption did not affect in any way (per a Blazeridge heart).

Though Ghostfire is stated to be surprisingly far more effective against risen than anything else used on.

The idea of the ‘power of love’ comes from Glint’s testimony in EoD, but we now know that to have been a half-truth.

People were denoting that before Edge of Destiny came out, actually, and many who still make that kind of claim do not cite that passage in EoD.

Just nitpicking here. :P

And I genuinely think Ventari was more into the magical things than presented in GW1.

You are presented zero evidence of such yet believe it to be so… why?

I know gameplay and lore sometimes conflict but why choose him as a Legend of the Past if he was just a mere centaur with stone carving skills…. a stone that revenants can summon in combat (well not the real one but a magical copy of it having healing power).

Because he held a strong philosophical belief which left a strong impact on the Mists.

Plus from a design viewpoint, every legend is some throwback to GW1.

Let the possibilities exist, especially when the “Pale Tree is NOT a dragon Champion” crowd form 2 years ago was as passionate to defend this opinion, sometimes with the exact same arguments.

As a vocal member of that crowd, the opinion was due to things that remain standing. The sylvari have big differences with standard dragon minions – even mordrem.

And why the Pale Tree is independent is a huge question as well, which previously could only be answered with “she was somehow purified” or “she isn’t a dragon champion” and at the time, the latter was the more likely option given all the contradictions that existed (and still exist).

Also if the Pale Tree was like Glint, that is a purified champion, why would she say " I wish I could be of more service. My knowledge of the world does not extend deeply into the past" when asked about Elder Dragons. I mean would a caring mother not be a bit more preventive for her children and tell them a bit more about their origins if she knew?

The Pale Tree very obviously knew about the sylvari origins. It’s outright stated to be the case in the finale of Season 2.

She says that because she is hiding the truth about sylvari at that time still, and she isn’t an ancient dragon champion like Glint was – she’s a new dragon champion that’s been purified (no other explanation for why she’d have her own free will) by unknown means.

I’m not convinced the pale tree was purified. I think it was just moved outside of Mordy’s sphere of influence by Mordy. Sylvari only seemed to be affected when the came to close to Mordremoth.

By your argument then Drakkar, Svanir, Kellach (Human PS), Howl (charr PS), Mazdak (sylvari PS), and infinitely more minions should be independent of their Elder Dragon.

Distance has absolutely zero bearing on the enslavement of one’s will. Whether the Elder Dragon is awake or not.

And in Mordremoth’s case specifically: Scarlet went far beyond the Pale Tree’s distance from Mordremoth and was affected by the Elder Dragon.

So it most absolutely was not a matter of distance from Mordremoth while it was asleep.

By your argument, all dogs are collies. I never mentioned anything about the other elder dragons, only Mordremoth. The devs themselves have stated that Mordy’s corruption is different from the other dragons. I don’t know why you continue to insist that all elder dragons must act the same, despite seeing that they don’t.

Yes, I am saying that Mordremoth’s control of the sylvari depended heavily on their proximity to them. Not one sylvari came under his control until they were close by. The only sylvari that were affected by Mordremoth were either in the maguma wastes or the Heart of Maguma. Not one sylvari outside of these areas was affected. Even in the heart of Maguma, Rata Novus somehow provided protection against Mordremoth’s influence. Go back and play the Rata Novus episodes and pay attention to Canach.

There is no proof that the pale tree was purified by any thing. Please stop pushing this fairy tale as if it was fact.

From what we have seen, those who absorbed magic from the bloodstone (or in anyway), become hungry for ever more power. Lazarus has absorbed the lion’s share of Bloodstone’s magic, and could very well intend to absorb other, greater sources of magic such as a dead Elder Dragon or another Bloodstone.

The odd thing is that Lazarus doesn’t seem crazed like everything else.

So whatever ritual he used to absorb that magic kept him safe from the effects unlike the rest.

Maybe Primordus is not coming for us, but is drawn to a Bloodstone or Lazarus himself – both equally are high sources of magic. Maybe their armies will meet by another Bloodstone and winner takes all?

I don’t think Primordus is after a Bloodstone. It’s odd, but Zhaitan and Mordremoth were both adjacent to bloodstones and completely ignored them. The only time a dragon minion was related to a bloodstone was the five of six small shards in Arah, and that was by dragon champions who pre-corruption held those five shards.

The bloodstones were created to shield the magic from the dragons. Therefore, bloodstones probably look like regular rocks to dragons. However, the bloodstone in bloodstone fen is no longer shielding the magic, it would seem like an entirely new source of magic to the dragons. I would think that they would at least be curious about a new source of magic.

But with the magic of Mordremoth and Zhaitan out in the open world now, would he really care about 1/5th-or-1/4th of part of Zhaitan’s hibernating magic (from when the gods strengthened the Bloodstone by drawing magic from Zhaitan – I wonder if that’s why Zhaitan was so easily taken done, rather than just the weeks of starving)?

I’m not really sure. Plus, if Lazarus just phases out of existence, wouldn’t that be basically taking the magic out of reach and out of “smell” of Primordus? Maybe.

It’s possible that Lazarus will go after other bloodstones, but if so I suspect that a clash – if one happens – will be at the Shiverpeak bloodstone (which would be perfectly placed in that spot between Timberline and Sparkfly).

I’m curious why you think the level of magic in the bloodstone was so low. Especially considering the size of the blast when the magic was released. The four remaining elder races put all their magic into the original bloodstone. This is magic that has been hidden from the dragons since. It’s new magic for the most part due to the fact it had been shielded from the dragons until a week ago.

Why the Fire Islands. I don’t get why people keep going “Primordus will be at the Fire Islands” when the natural volcanic island chain has nothing to do with Primordus and the closest Primordus’ forces have ever been is in the Tarnished Coast.

That said, I don’t think Lazarus would be any more desireable than the magic out in the open world, which is not only plentiful but also won’t be fighting back.

Furthermore, Lazarus still has his phasing out ability which is Arah explorable is any indication, is a near perfect defense against dragon minions. Especially when combined with spectral agony.

I speculate that Lazarus will go to the fire islands. This is because there were so many Mursaat fortifications there. Primordus will follow him there, because Primordus is drawn by Lazarus’ magic.

There was a lot of magic in the bloodstone, that is now contained in Lazarus. Primordus may not realize it’s in Lazarus. He may only know that a large concentration of Magic that wasn’t available before, is now available. It’s not Lazarus, but the magic in him that Primordus would want.

After absorbing the bloodstone, Lazarus must smell like bacon to the elder dragons. All the magic that had been hid away by the seers, has been released and contained in one Mursaat. This could explain Primordus’ recent activity.

One could speculate, that primordus will hunt down Lazarus, Lazarus will eventually make it to the fire island where he will be engaged by Primordus. Primordus will win, but be extremely weakened.

Primordus and lore (spoiler alert)

DarcShriek.5829

So is the sad anomalies that are appearing everywhere the result of the dragons being defeated?

Personally, I think those have more to do with tampering with the Bloodstone(s).

Personally, I hope that the defeat of the elder dragons plays a larger part of this than the bloodstone. Causing a greater problem by trying to do good offers an intriguing and nuanced scenario. Things going awry because of tampering with a magic rock has a lot of potential to be cliche. Either way could be played well or poorly, of course.

Though somewhat informed speculation, this is none the less speculation, and frankly, speculating is all either of us can do, is it not?

Magic is a gift from the human god Abaddon. It was sealed within the bloodstones by the other gods, so it is logical to conclude that the magic we had in the world was already restricted.
It took 5 gods to seal the magic of the world in the bloodstone. so calling either of it’s five fragments a “magic rock”, is kinda equivalent to calling a dragon an annoying lizard.
If Lazarus have indeed consumed the power of the bloodstone, he is probably equivalent in power, to one of the human a gods, which would put him slightly above an elder dragons.
We have seen one Mursaat return from the dead. With the power of the bloodstone, it is not unthinkable that he could either revive his race completely, or infuse the white mantle with Mursaat souls, granting them power of an equivalent level.

If killing an elder dragon is equivalent to a mortar shell of magic dropping on Tyria, this “magic rock” that was just destroyed, is more like a nuclear explosion of magic, dropping on the world, in compare.
This “cliché”, is somewhat like a Chernobyl disaster, except that it just created a genuine Mursaat god.

I am quite confident, that we will get to see Both of the two scenarios play out. We really do not want any more stray magic in the world. Slaying the elder dragon was a problem prior to the bloodstone’s destruction. Now the elder dragons being alive, is a minor problem, compared to having them die off.
We cannot slay neither the elder dragons nor Lazarus. Killing either would release too much raw magic into the environment. Unless of course we find a way to store the magic.

One solution to this could be to do with the raw magic, what Kormir did with Abaddons power. Powerful individuals could be used as vessels, to ascend into a form of keepers of magic.

Hmmmmm… I could have sworn it was the seers that created the bloodstone to contain untainted magic from the dragons. It was how the last dragon uprising was created. It might have work too, if the stupid human gods hadn’t came and ruined everything.

I think Lazarus effectively neutralized Caudecus for the time being. He’s lost a lot of followers and reputation. It would seem a good course of action would be to check on the egg, and then figure out what to do about Lazarus. I think killing Primordus would be a huge mistake. I don’t think we would survive the results. Apparently, the egg still can’t absorb magic fast enough, and we have the added magic from the Bloodstone explosion. Lazarus may try to head to the Bloodstone in the Shiverpeaks to absorb more magic.

Also, seer magic helped create the Bloodstone, are there any seers left? If so, it would be good to find one or two.

Lazurus seems to be more powerful due to the excess magic. It won’t belong before he decides Primordus needs to die as well. The excess magic from his death will be too much for Tyria. We need to stop Lazarus from killing Primordus.

Lazarus took most of the Maguuma Bloodstone magic for himself, that’s true. But Primordus has been filling his belly with Ley-Lines magic for 200 years now. I think it’s premature to decide that the Elder Dragon is weaker than Lazarus. If anything, i would expect the opposite.

Lazarus know the locations of other bloodstones. The white mantle used one in the Shiverpeaks also. Now that he knows what can be done, he may try to absorb another bloodstone. The possibility also exists that he may try to take down Primordus. The main concern is that we need to stop releasing all this magic into Tyria. Glint’s egg doesn’t seem to have absorbed enough.

2. It also looks like Lazarus is going to fight the dragons, or at least get involved somehow. He has a “noble” purpose now and is no longer interested in the mortal races. I suppose it could also tie into the 6 human gods somehow as well.

A side note is that Lazarus unlocked all the magic in the bloodstone and contains it in a much more raw form in himself now. This will make him a HUGE target for the dragons as they are drawn to sources of magic and I think he is now 3 dragons worth of magic.

The impression I got from reading the diaries is that Lazarus’ virtuous ambition is to rid the world of non-believers.

What do you realistically expect someone, or even Anet to do about this? Like is there some easy to do graphic setting or toggle they could include, like some kind of alternate color blind mode, that would offset this?

If Anet designed something that is giving seizures, then Anet made a mistake and should fix it. You would be surprised at how many people are affected by this, and not being aware of this is just poor game design.

That’s easy to say, but hard to do. The triggers are different from person to person. One person it might be a certain sound at a certain pitch. Another, it might be a flicker of lights at a certain rate, but for a different person it’s a flicker of lights at a different rate and neither is bothered by what triggers problems for the others. A third might have problems by the way the camera moves during watching a vista and won’t find this out till he sees his first vista. There’s no way that any game can be designed to eliminate all triggers for all people.

I understand it’s hard to eliminate, but it is easy to reduce. It’s surprising how many people have a problem with this. I design games for gambling devices, it’s a real problem. Casinos do not want their customers having seizures.

How is Caithe in any way responsible for that first bullet there? It wasn’t her fault, its not like she could have prevented it

Hello: She knew before almost everyone that Slyvari were originally property of Mordremoth and she let Treahearne and countless other Slyvari go straight into the battle, in his territory, without giving him any warning. It might not have stopped Mordremoth from bringing down the ships, but it could have definitely stopped him from immediately claiming weaker Slyvari, fanning the flames, reduced the causalities, and stopped the racist hatred from being planted towards them. She practically handed the Pact and her Slyvari brothers/sisters to him by not giving Treahearne this critical intel. No general worth their salt would have allowed this risk if they knew of it.

The Rata Novans are returning. It’s reasonable to assume that the Rata Novans also have a ley-line map. Therefore, they would know the dragon is dead, the amount of ley-line energy is reduced, and the chak problem should be reduced with the ley-line energy.

If Anet ever released capes, there would be an avalanche of hate mail over the fact that the capes have clipping issues. There’s no way they can win this, it’s best to choose the path of least resistance.

The wonderful thing is that you can hide the capes. There you go. Path of least resistance.

If the capes are going to be hidden, then why bother to make them? Also, how would this stop the flood of hate mail over clipping issues?

1. Most, if not all of my friends want capes. I think it’s safe to say nobody cares if they clip or not. The capes in WoW clipped for years and nobody really cared. The cape clipping is getting fixed in the next WoW expansion. It’s been 12 years since the release date.

2. Adding an option to hide capes helps those people that don’t want to see capes, therefore making the clipping issues nonexistent. People that want capes get them, while people that don’t want them can hide them. Simple.

So you and six of your friends want capes. I don’t see how that’s a successful business plan. I can’t believe that absolutely no one cared about clipping of capes in WoW. Anet gets a lot of grief over armor clipping issues. If people complain about armor clipping issues, why would the give capes a pass?

Again, if the capes are just gonna be hidden, then why bother?

Personally, I enjoy HoT’s content. The problem is that there isn’t much of it. It really needs a large season 3.
