So now we have an unhatched dragon’s egg supercharged with magic. It would seem to me, that the inquest would be very interested in this. Will season three be about this?
With the new WvW borderlands, how does one complete the “Master of Ruins” daily?
I already knew that information. It’s on the item.
Ok, I don’t remember ever seeing shark fins before and now I have 4 of them. Does anyone know what they’re good for?
It seemed last year the vendors would sell you stuff for them. This year they only seem to accept candy corn.
Last year I could use these items to buy things. This year I can’t find a vendor that takes them. Am I just not finding the right vendor?
This….again?
I srsly need to break out the alcohol and take a shot for every time someone goes off about this…
I’d be comfortably numb several times over by now
I’d be passed out.

what ruins it is that the majority of those hero points are locked behind the mastery system, which is designed to be a long term system.
40 accessible hero challenges would be fine, locking them behind mind-numbing mastery grind walls isn’t fine.
This is the main problem. I started with 100 points, so 300 to go. The mastery system is taking FOREVER and it just feels like a completely boring grind.
The mastery system as only been available for 15 hours. Your complaining about it being forever is just pure over dramatization. Congratulations on being awarded the William Shatner award for dramatic excellence.
Why should those who have the full version of the core game have to pay ANOTHER $50 for the expansion that includes another “Core game”? It makes no sense.
i don’t think you truly know what you are getting to be complaining. look at how much you get. 9-12 hours of pve content. wasn’t this free in living story? oh no, wait, you also get a new class – aka revenant! now it’s worth that price. go and buy it and join us in this new adventure. you might enjoy the guild hall. wait, is that new? i thought it existed in guild wars 1. shouldn’t veterans of guild wars 1 get more entitlement?
GW1 players should not get more entitlement.
Where did Anet say that you would be able to instantly start with full elite? It seems many people made assumptions that they regarded as facts.
Try Lions Arch instead. That’s where his ghost is at.
After completing the story instance “Torn from the Sky” I was not awarded the Dug In achievement despite choosing to build up the defences.
Meatober fest will have some extra wood.
You can always wait until the next expansion is release. Then HoT will be included for free.
try GoFundMe.com.
This thread will be closed in an hour.
I expect that tomorrow the forums will be filled with complaints. It’s typical for that to happen with games like this. No launch ever goes totally smooth.

Honestly I could care less about how many HP we need to unlock the elite specs. What ticks me off is how short of notice we got.
Maybe next time Anet will seek your approval on when to release information.
I think a line of Funco Pop figures would be cool.
Anet is not interested in saving the dungeons. They want you to move on to the new material. Other games incentivize new material by introducing more powerful gear. Anet won’t do this. So they have to deincentivize old material by nerfing the rewards instead.
If they made a Gem Shop item a requirement we would be hearing the screams across time by now.
Well, you need 5 box of fun for quip and moot and 100 uni dyes for bifrost.
Both of which can be acquired without the gem shop.
The Sky is falling!
We’re going to enlist the aid of people that are essentially Scooby snacks for elder dragons to defeat elder dragons.
Riiiiight…
Keep in mind that if they can use up their own life force, then they are not effectively immortal.
As the lore mentioned they are only Immortal by being unable to age, die of age, nor die from lack of food and water.
Exalted can still die by fatal wounds or losing all their magical energy that is used to maintain their body.
Their immortal stats is only given by maintaining their magical energy in their body to maintain their forms. Without that magical energy they will die so hibernation may be one way to maintain their magical energy.
If daily activity causes them to lose the magical energy that keeps them alive, then they are mortal. If they are required to be in stasis in order to live longer, then they are not effectively immortal.
Losing energy due to daily activity is the same as aging. Aging implies mortality.
Poor joe, he died from taking one to many trips to the store to buy beer. He should have remained in stasis.
Hey Joe, I know how we can keep people from attacking our city. We can just go to sleep.
Seriously? These exalted smell of BS.
Keep in mind the Exalted body is pure magic so maybe if they use Magic they will be spending their own life force to use that magic.
As a being of pure magical energy that uses magical energy to perform their strong magical abilities it is most likely the risk of spending too much magical energy may result in the Exalted to die from loss of magical energy.
Keep in mind that if they can use up their own life force, then they are not effectively immortal.
If the exalted are “effectively immortal” due to being made of eldritch energy, why did they need to hibernate?
As mentioned in the article, to conserve the magical energy they’d gathered for future use.
But they have enough energy to live forever. Why would they need to conserve? They don’t leak naturally if they’re immortal. A need to conserve would imply mortality. This contradicts the effectively immortal description.
If the exalted are “effectively immortal” due to being made of eldritch energy, why did they need to hibernate?
Where were these folks when Glean needed protecting?
Besides the one week per account won’t stop F2P players. You just make a new account. Problem avoided.
It sounds like you want to punish F2P players out of existence. I don’t see how limiting F2P would make things better for anyone else. You seem envious of them. I suggest quitting your paid for account and start your own F2P account. You seem to think they have it better than you.
You say it like it’s a bad thing.
Remove the timer and make it a permanent on/off potion when moving from map to map or dying.
Since you have made two separate threads for the same exact complaint, i will go ahead and copy my other reply here.
“Are you seriously that lazy that you can’t click the potions again after switching maps? and if the dying thing is that much of an issue, your concern should probably more towards learning to play better rather than what happens to a cosmetic item after dying.”
I can understand his position here. It’s a bit of a pain. Minis used to behave this way also. I have a halo and I don’t use it because of this issue.
As a three year veteran, I am excited at the opportunity to pick up these items that I’ve missed in the past.

I think this would give too big of an advantage to players with lots of alts over players with a few alts. Smells like pay to win.
So basically you’re saying that items of real value got overshadowed and kicked to the curb by… minis… I don’t even care about them being on sale… I would pay full price for the quiver had I known it was in there…
That’s not what he’s saying. The quiver was on sale over the weekend, before the minis went on sale. It was there for both Saturday and sunday at least. You have only yourself to blame.
Obi kittenenobi. It’s my only hope.
The censor strikes back!
The thingh is that we didn’t buy only the game but also we contract a service (every mmo is a service) and here is the problem in the moment we bought the game the say to us that the game was b2p but now is a f2p.
I’m not agaist new players but I’m agaist what Anet is doing the things
And your service is still valid, you bought the service to play the game forever without paying again and that’s what you got, that never changed.
But the value of the offer has changed drastically. You pay 60 dollars to go to a show, and as you get there and get seated they announce that because 50% of the seats are empty they are letting everyone else in for free. Outrage will insue for anyone that values money and carefully chooses the things they enjoy enough to invest in. As somone who is physically disabled and has to manage my money carefully I made a very active decision to save the money to pre-purchase gw2 because I love the title and the company despite many of my posts on this forum.
And contrary to popular belief I am in no way shape or form unhappy with that investment, even knowing this would happen (I would be less happy about it) but I would do it again, and pay the 80 bucks up front. Now that being said this does not discount or change the feelings of animosity or distrust built by both the secrecy of this deal, because you know they knew this was going to happen and could have told the community earlier than yknow… the day they did it… nor does it change that I am upset that our consolation prize yielded to me no real value of any sort.
They did provide us with some garbage royal guard skin that looks like something that got downvoted too many times so they couldn’t greenlight the release on the trading post… however to many of us, especially most of us that will never ever use such a horrendously disfigured skin, this feels like a cop out, or at the very least gives veteran players (and this has happened many times before) the idea that we are worth next to nothing. That our continued support and promotion of their game is to them, worth whatever they found in the bottom of the barrell… They couldn’t dare to part with 15% off the expansion? Or even to generate a few in game gems to let us purchase something of actual use? Gems are an unlimited currency, they could have provided consolation compensation and chose not to. This is why most of us hardcore veteran players with 1101 days played are a little bit sour over this whole deal.
Also to many of the people on this forum this anger and unrest is being redirected at the new guys coming into the game because they are easily accessable and it will only cause problems in the future, fracturing those who play for free and those who don’t. You will see free to players getting kicked from parties, us vs them mentality. All because Anet couldn’t part with something other than a skin that looks like a beatleborgs halloween costume to placate a disenfranchised mass of veteran players who have been at the lesser valued end of pretty much every deal since the initial purchase. Veterans are not respected. Anet is a company that as a company is much like a shark, they know about time investment, and they know that as a company they don’t have any need to placate players that already exist because we stand to lose more than they do if we stop. They already have our money. This is the overall idea behind this whole fiasco.
A post or two from the red names and perhaps something of actual value would settle down the veteran players and really help to smooth the transition of these new guys into the game. Personally I am happy to see new players, I am unhappy that I was not given consideration in the method that they chose to aquire them.
I live in Las Vegas so your movie analogy falls completely flat. Many times live shows offer reduced price seats, or even free seats to people just to fill the theater. These tickets are not comps, they give them out in order to fill the theater so that the performers and the people in the audience will have a better show. I’ve often sat next to people that have paid full price.
Only 2 of the 5 characters that I started on day 1 have received a birthday gift.
Here’s a couple of tinfoil hat theories you might like. Scarlet wasn’t a servant of Mordremoth and the Sylvari aren’t dragon minions.
Couldn’t we say that the pale tree has a separate non brain washed consciousness from Mordremoth because Ronan and Ventari had such a close connection with the pale tree when it was growing that eventually the Pale tree developed a more “Human” consciousness separate from the Dragon, and therefore the Sylvari are not directly connected to the Dragon like the other Mordrem are?
It’s possible, but we really don’t know the reason why it separated. I suspect the matter will be explained in HoT.
I suspect we’ll never actually physically see Mordy. I think he’s buried underground and remain there. To me, it looks like he corrupts through dreams.

The reason for the Pale Tree’s current state of not being a brainwashed servant is the main problem of Darc’s arguments about Mordremoth, and something he doesn’t seem to understand despite the various ways I try to word it.
As to Mawdrey – we toss him a LOT of oddities. Including Foefire magic, which it should be noted not only did Foefire ghosts remain unaffected to Kralkatorrik’s corruption, but Foefire ghosts’ “Ghostfire” is exceptionally powerful against risen. Not too dissimilar to how the divine fire reacts to Mordrem. There’s also the cleansing waters of the Maguuma used, direct ley line magic, and chaos magic from the Thaumanova explosion (which itself is a mixture of chaos and dragon magics). And let’s not forget that we used the Heart of a Destroyer.
Basically, we fed Mawdrey a Subject Alpha and Foefire magic that was steeped in pure, raw, ley line magic.
It wouldn’t be surprising if that resulted in something akin to Kudu’s Monster – if Kudu told the truth, he had control over it.
There’s no problem here. The tree is obviously free from Mordy’s control.
We don’t know how the tree was freed from Mordy’s control, we only know that she was freed. There is evidence to support three theories. First, Ventari could have inadvertently purified the tree. The evidence for this is the extreme revenance that the Pale Tree holds for Ventari’s tablet. Another possibility is that it is due to a localized phenomenon. The evidence for this is the white hart, which also shares the dream. The third possibility is a combination of the two prior theories that is the localized phenomenon and Ventari’s efforts combined to purify the tree.
I am Mordremoth. I have been cut off from the magic that I need to sustain myself. Soon I will enter hibernation. Before I do though, I must protect my children. I will have the fruit of my children collect their seeds and store them. I will leave fruit behind to protect my children. I will instruct the fruit to replant my children when the time is right. For I am not stupid, I am cunning. I have been through this before and I know that I will reawaken. I want my children to be at my side and ready when I awake.
Years go by as I slumber. The fruit of my children have protected my children and have followed my instructions. My children have been planted near me as instructed and I feel their loving arms wrap themselves around me as I sleep. My children are quite large, and their arms stretch deep into the earth. My dreams become theirs. However, I sense something strange. One of my children has become lost, and does not share my dream. It has a different dream, someone else’s dream. I love my lost child and I must somehow get her back. If I can’t get her back, then she will become sick and die.
Today, fate has been kind. One of the fruit of my beloved lost child has contacted me. I will make her an honored servant and she will wake me from my slumber. However my beloved child is still lost, I will instruct my children to send a fruit to the lost child and determine if my child can be saved. If my child can not be saved, then she will need to be destroyed.
Awake at last! My honored servant has served me well. Unfortunately my lost daughter can not be saved and must be destroyed. I will send my champion to complete this task. Unfortunately, there are those that would destroy me. My beloved children, bear me fruit that I may use them to protect us from those that would destroy us!
I am Mordremoth. This has happened before, and this time my children, we will be victorious.
The flame legion are a bunch of buttheads.
It’s not a tin foil hat theory and your use of the term is very offensive.
You have no actual evidence to back your claim, and that’s what tends to classify something as a tinfoil hat theory.
Mordy was asleep and and still was able to control Scarlet.
Again, because she went to him through a method not available to the everyday individual.
Malyck – or any other sylvari, Dream protected or not – did not.
This is the key and constantly ignored aspect that breaks down your theory and drives it into tinfoil hat area.
That and the fact that no dragon minion ever anywhere acts as a sleeper agent thus far.
You are working on the basis of nothing beyond loose strings.
He’s controlling something because the other seeds managed to get planted deliberately where he wanted them.
Issue two:
Whoever said that the cave was not purified? There was no purification ritual cast on the Pale Tree so we’ve been told and no indication of such. Malyck was indeed acting unlike any dragon minion – mordrem or otherwise – we’ve ever seen
If you go back and read the short story, Scarlet went outside of the Pale Tree’s ability to protect her. That’s when Mordy took her over.
I think you should go re-read the short story.
Scarlet did more than just go outside the Pale Tree’s ability to protect her. The short story explicitly states “Ceara paused. She hadn’t heard the Pale Tree’s voice in years.” Further, she delved into that connection between Pale Tree and Mordremoth – though that wasn’t shown in the short story itself, but in The Machine’s cinematic.
Malyck’s entire existence has been outside the Pale Tree’s protection. To assume Mordy couldn’t over take Malyck is to underestimate the abilities of “a force of nature”.
That phrase is a misnomer in of itself. It is used by the common folk of Tyria to describe something they literally do not understand. ArenaNet uses it a lot too, but they’ve also stated that this is from the average Tyrian’s perspective.
In other words: the Elder Dragons are not forces of nature. They merely seem to be such to the uneducated mind.
And why could Mordremoth control Malyck. He was asleep. And again, he could only influence Scarlet because she prodded his mind. The same thing that Jennah and Snaff did to Kralkatorrik – but Jennah reeled back before she could be affected, and Snaff managed to figure out how Kralkatorrik thinks.
What does this mean? It means Scarlet failed where Snaff succeeded.
And Malyck did not attempt this act.
Caithe would have had to kill Malyck privately. If anyone were to find out that she killed him, then the secret would be blown. Caithe has already killed to keep the secret, so she’s capable of doing it. Despite your claims that she can’t.
Caithe could kill Malyck and keep the secret that she kept – that the sylvari are dragon minions – with ease. By stating that it was too risky for Malyck to live because if the Nightmare Court ever found out in the future then their actions now were for naught.
I wasn’t saying she cannot kill. I was saying that Malyck would have gotten too far for her to follow suit, kill him, and return on time for our next interaction.
In other words: there wasn’t enough time. It’s got nothing to do with whether or not she could kill, but how fast she could track him down, kill him, and return. Which wasn’t much.
Nightmare Court does not work for Mordy. They are also protected by the dream.
That’s yet to be seen, really.
While it is heavily implied as of late that the Nightmare does indeed protect them from Mordremoth’s control like the Dream does – but still altering them as well – the Nightmare Court are first and foremost interested in being to their true selves. Which would be serving Mordremoth.
So the Nightmare Court’s ultimate goal – whether they realize it or not – is to become full fledged mordrem.
CureForLiving’s point remains: both forces would want the Pale Tree dead. So if Malyck was working for Mordremoth, he would have betrayed us and tried to kill us.
He certainly wouldn’t go out of his way to free the wardens personally – something that was explicitly stated in the storyline to be more than what others would or should do – either.
Why do you think Malyck would need to take the methods that Scarlet took? Scarlet was physically outside of Mordy’s zone of control, she needed to take the extra steps. Malyck wouldn’t need to take those extra steps because he developed closer to Mordy and he did not have the dream to protect him.
Oh yes, I forgot, you believe that minions are created like cookies with little magic cookie cutters stamping them into creation. That’s why you couldn’t recognize that Scarlet was working for Mordy, because you claimed “that’s not how minions work”. Devs have stated repeatedly that Mordy controls minions differently.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about with the whole purification bit. I do know that there were two plant creatures guarding the cave that the seeds were in. Something planted the seeds so that the sylvari would be ready when Mordy woke up. The plant creature guardians would be able to fit that role. Please explain your purification rant.
Interesting thing in the epilogue for LS 2. There a segment that shows a number of sylvari attacking humans. The sylvari appear to be nightmare court members led by faolain. The curious thing about this segment is all the sylvari, except Faolain have red splotches on them. Faolain doesn’t have any red splotches. Red has often been used to signify Mordy’s influence on the sylvari. For example ceara changing her name to Scarlet and the red thorns attacking the pale tree.
Scarlet was created in 1320, four years before the Thaumanova Reactor incident. Mordy does indeed employ sleeper agents.

There is no reason to believe Malyck was lying except for tinfoil hat theories, such as yours – that he was ‘always corrupted.’
And if he was, why wouldn’t he have worked with the Nightmare Court? After all one of the things that stops the Nightmare Court from burning the Pale Tree down is the lack of new Sylvari that would result. In fact that was the whole plot of Malycks story, the Nightmare Court sought him out to find the location of the other tree so they could destroy the Pale Tree and hopefully have more luck converting the other tree.
Judging by the actions of the Shadow it seems Mordy would want the Pale Tree gone.
Nightmare Court does not work for Mordy. They are also protected by the dream.
Scarlet actually wasn’t protected by the Dream. In the short story, it’s explicitly stated she hadn’t heard the Pale Tree’s voice in years. Dreamers can hear her when she calls, Soundless cannot.
And entering the Machine brought her mind close to Mordremoth’s (and all the other Elder Dragons, probably).
We actually aren’t sure where Mordremoth is specifically, so while Malyck’s tree is closer it isn’t necessarily close. Furthermore, Mordremoth was still asleep when Malyck was awoke.
Mordremoth only affected Scarlet because she went in Omadd’s Machine.

It’s not a tin foil hat theory and your use of the term is very offensive. Mordy was asleep and and still was able to control Scarlet. It is not tinfoil hat theorizing to believe that he could control a being specially bred to be controlled by him. He’s controlling something because the other seeds managed to get planted deliberately where he wanted them.

(edited by DarcShriek.5829)
Scarlet inadvertedly actively sought Mordremoth out by using Omadd’s machine, however, and no other sylvari is known to have been influenced by Mordremoth until after he began stirring – which was Aeron, whom was not only Soundless but in close proximity.
There’s a good chance Malyck and his tree has been corrupted, but this is only a ‘good chance’ after the Battle for Lion’s Arch.
And Malyck outright states that he knows the general location of the tree: “Somewhere to the west, at the source of that river, there’s another tree. Maybe even another city, with more sylvari like me. My family.”
That doesn’t really sound like throwing people off. It’s rather specific. At the source of the river.
Oddly enough, we players know exactly where that river’s source is. It’s a place known to Shining Blade, Maguuma centaurs, Druids, and asura alike – The Falls.
Scarlet was protected by the dream and was lived far from Mordy. Malyck was not protected by the dream, and originated close to Mordy. He was essentially soundless. Consider also that Sylvari are, by nature designed to be used by Mordy.
Scarlet shows that Mordy does not have to be fully awake to control his subjects. Also, once again you assume that it’s a fact that Malyck was telling the truth about the tree’s location. It’s not a fact, it’s simply your assumption.
