Main and lesser races

in Lore

Posted by: DarcShriek.5829

DarcShriek.5829

I would personally use the following typology (for intelligent races):

1. Major races: Humans, Charr, Asura, Sylvari, Norn.
2. Ancient races (or whatever): Dwarves, Forgotten, Jotun, Mursaat, Seers.
3. Minor races: Quaggan, Skritt, Hylek, Grawl, Ogre.
4. Enemy races: Centaurs, Harpies, Krait, Dredge.
5. Other (the most likely races to be added in the future as playable races): Tengu, Kodan, Largos.

The assumption that any race is going to be added as a playable race is a poor one. The best bet is no new races will be added. Anet never added new races to GW1 and adding a new race to GW2 would require a new PS to be added.

I can’t play asura, because I’m scared of clowns.
I can’t play sylvari, because they make me pine for BBQ ribs.
I can’t play norn, because they worship animal spirits, see charr above.
I can’t play humans, because I hate people.

A lot of people feel that by gating things, Anet has made the game more like other MMOs. What they’re ignoring is that many of the things that are gated were already gated anyway and just the level changed, so if it wasn’t generic before it’s not generic now.

It amazes me how people can be against time gating, yet for gear progression.

I believe its like this:

We feed Grawnk to obtain ornaments.
But he accidentally die (or he ended in coma, you can´t die by eating Bloodstone dust dishes, i tried).
So we collect all ornaments, send them to childrens. As thanks they send back Christmas tree decorated with ornaments.
Therefore you still have all ornaments.

And a certain chef continues to try cooking with Bloodstone Dust, while I pine for seeing the Tyrian equivalent of Chef Ramsay show up to clear up the issue.

Of course, there is one man who can cook with it, and make it not only delicious but nutritious . . . A.B.

While i agree that it’s rather strange that they decided to go for yet another re-iteration of the daily system while there are some glaring issues in this game, there’s no way in hell i want to go back to the old system after trying this new one. For me it’s like day and night. Interesting, versatile rewards, i love the PvP ones, no more stupid kitten boring activities like 10 revives or 15 dodges, or condi cleanse/apply and if i cba to play i can just skip it all without looking back. So in my book it’s a job well done.

I totally agree with you. I really enjoy the new system. I like the fact that I can do as many items as I want and not have to worry about hitting an AP cap. The extra rewards, though small, are nice.

So, before, I could complete my dailies the way I wanted, and now you are telling my Anet is trying to force me into styles of play I dislike?

It’s not ANet’s fault you only play 1/3 the game. You havethe same amount of options for dailies that you’ve always had, you just choose to not recognize them. It’s not Anet that takes away your choices, it’s you.

Your ignorance is not the fault of the new system.

Thanks for proving my point, your problem is thinking this game and update is only for veterans of the game who played for over a year. That attitude is what is destroying the number (and influx) of players good job, if you keep this up there wont be a GW2 one year from now.

New players, don’t have to do as many achievements to get the daily. Accounts with characters at level 80 does. Before you condemn this game for being anti new player, you should probably read the patch release notes.

Im currently stuck for hours since I need to go to a region I have no idea how to get to

Maguuma is the Sylvari and Asura area. You can get to it by going to either the Grove (Sylvari town) or Rata Sum (Asura town), and heading outside.

Ascalon is Char territory. You can get to it by going to the Black Citadel (Char town) and heading outside.

Well I need to get to Southsun cove or whatever and i dont even know what that place is. Can log on my 80 for maguuma but the whole point of dailies is that I should be able to do em with any character!

Where on earth did you hear that? It’s not true, you just want it to be rue.

in Living World

The Bells of Wintersday don’t count toward the meta. I already did it once. Based on this I would guess that Snowball Mayhem Participant, Toypocalypse Survivor and the JP Mastery don’t count either.

We’ll have to grind out all the rest of them. Oh joy! Grinding! My fav….

Yes it does, it just only counts once and can be done indefinitely. There are more than enough options, outside of dailies to get the meta without doing a couple things you have no interest in.

It would appear that you haven’t read the requirements for the meta. It quite clearly lists the achievements that have to be completed. It even checks them off as you do them.

I agree with Elden, but if Anet can’t or won’t implement an alternative, the dailies really need to stop in starter zones. I agree with mrstealth the entire idea is flawed and needs to be removed from all specific non-level 80 zones, but at the very least I’d like to be able to play GW2 with my wife on a friday in her starter zone, and it’s not something we could do tonight.

You don’t think starting characters should be allowed to do event dailies. Yeah, way to recruit new players. I guess you think there are enough people playing.

The concept of players going out of their way to gain rewards is not at all foreign to this game. Dungeons, world bosses, PvP, wvw, puzzles all have rewards that require players to go out of their way to gain them.

Sure, and that’s fine. The problem isn’t in what’s offered now though, but what was taken away: a trickle of free AP that required no effort other than just playing any old content. Ironically, while taking that away, they added log in rewards that require even less effort.

Plus, even in the previous daily system, it was only the pve only people who would just happen upon their dailies.

And now, that’s more or less the case for WvW people. Who’d have thought?

You know, it wasn’t too long ago that people were complaining that this game was too easy. Now you’re complaining that it’s too hard.

I’m doing no such thing. I’m complaining that the dailies have become annoying as hell and getting rewards has become even easier because of the kittened log in reward.

Actually, you were complaining that the dailies took more effort than they did before when they took no effort. That is the same as complaining about the game being too hard.

There are a lot of people that are upset because there are so many people like you complaining that rewards take even a minimum amount of effort.

I’m a PVE player and this change to dailies is a drastic step back. Seriously, who thought of this?

In the past, PVE players can easily accomplish the dailies, just by participating in several public events, and public events is a strong suit of GW2; the dailies and public events complements each other well enough.

Now with the new system in space, we have to accomplish very specific missions. Instead of broad, general objectives, we are given very specific instructions on what to do, it’s a CHORE.

I read the “Introducing the New Daily Achievement System” article and just couldn’t comprehend just how these changes reinforce that manifesto Anet is aiming for; they want player to experience content variation, but forcing players to partake in very specific missions/objective is not the way to achieve that, it just feels repetitive, grindy; to top it off, some of these chores are freaking mundane (for instance, go gather some wood in kryta region, seriously wtf ?!?).

I had to go to one vista, how will I ever recover from the grind?

Do you really need the Golden title within a day of playing the game?

The money transfer limit on new accounts protects ALL of us including YOU from hackers and gold sellers who break the economy. Would you complain about traffic lights inhibiting your freedom?

Just log in tomorrow and the limit will probably be lifted.

No..the limits stays for about a few weeks…and these “avoiding abuse” measures are totally void…instead of preventing abuse, you merely postpone it for a period of time..haters will hate, hackers will hack, sellers will sell, no matter what

If the time limit is discouraging to someone simply seeking an achievement, imagine how discouraging it is to someone looking to turn around a quick profit. Never forget that time is money.

When you factor in the exploration, finding vistas locations, crafting, skill points, events, side quests, main story quests, I don’t see how one could run out of things to do in a short time. Unless of course you are one to rush to endgame and thus I could see why it could become tedious and boring if one plays that way. Personally I like finding all the little details, thats what makes a game fun to play.

There’s a difference between “rushing to end game” and “not actively wasting time”.

This guy is right. If you are into simply sitting there and smelling the flowers, go at it. After the twentieth heart quest where you do mindless errands, I got bored. I have run all of the dungeons more times than I would like to admit. I have participated in WvW. I have done PvP. That is great that you have such an affinity for the drone of this game. Just make sure you buy lots of Gems.

Mmm, I’d say the PvE only really starts to feel repetitive after maybe 3 lvl 80s of different profession. With the personal story, hearts, exploration, dungeons and maybe dabbling in some PvP I’d say you can easily get 80-100 hours or more of gameplay that is tons of fun. For $40, that’s a steal and you’ll still have access to whatever content is released later. No financial commitment or anything forcing you to log in on the clock. Anyway I look at it, it’s definitely wroth the price!

80-100 hours of gameplay is great for a single player game. What about people who bought Gems to support Anet? You know, the people who actually keep Anet afloat? The people Anet needs to keep playing? What they want doesn’t matter?

Short Answer is :NO, you got what you wanted.

It doesn’t matter whether you bought 1000 gems, or 1,000,000 gems the folks at Anet are not your servants and you should stop acting like they are. Anet doesn’t owe you anything for your purchase except for the gems you bought. If you didn’t get the gems you bought then please fill out a request form and leave the rest of us out of it.

You got what you wanted every time you bought gems. You got the gems you paid for, and that’s all you paid for the gems. Any thing else you think is owed you is a product of your over entitled imagination. IF there wasn’t anything you wanted to exchange the gems for, that’s your problem. You should have looked before you purchased the gems.

Expecting a company to want to make efforts to keep a paying customer returning to pay more is not over entitlement.

It’s good business.

The paying customers have received everything they paid for. What people are demanding is service they haven’t paid for.

It’s bad behavior.

So you wouldn’t think a restaurant was bad if you went in and ordered your food and they just kinda walked by and tossed it onto your table? I mean, you got your food you paid for, right, so who cares whether the service was nice or not?

Not a proper analogy. More proper analogy would be this, you pay for a hamburger and then expect them to give you a Kobe beef steak. Would you consider that a good business move to give everyone a Kobe beef steak for the price of a hamburger?

Also, I wouldn’t return to a restaurant that I thought provided bad service. Why do you and Goose keep coming back to a restaurant that gives you bad service. That’s just stupid consumerism. Perhaps the service isn’t as bad as you try to make people believe it is.

Finally, if I had a business and you showed up to try and drive away customers, I’d call the police and have you removed for trespassing.

If you didn’t find it fun enough to stick around before, then you won’t find it fun enough to stick around now, because it’s no better.

In fact, if you’re planning to start a new character, it’s worse.

The game itself has had no major changes, it’s still the same game at heart.

You say that like it’s a bad thing. It may surprise you to know that there are many, many of us that like this game. We want it to always stay the same game at heart. If you want a different game, maybe you should play a different game.

The Deep Sea Dragon has an S in his name and since *S*hing Jea Island must be named after something so I would assume his name is Shing Jea…..

What’s more I think his corruption involves lillies(why else do Shing Jea’s Dragon Lilies look like Dragons) and vine-like tentacles.

Iirc, Shing Jea is Canthan. It translates to “Shining Jewel” – Shing Jea Island is named such as it is the shining jewel of Cantha.
Shing=Shining
Jea=Jewel

Edit: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Shing_Jea_Monastery “As the ancient Canthan name implies, Shing Jea is the jewel of Cantha.”

So by your theory, the DSD’s name is… Jewel.

Maybe she’ll sing for us then.

Pale tree on an Elder Dragon Gravesite?

What would happen if a Pale Tree seed was planted on an Elder Dragon grave site? Would it have enhanced powers that other pale trees don’t have? Would other creatures in the area share those enhanced powers? Would the magic from the elder dragon allow them to resist other elder dragons?

I am really craving for a sequel to GW1...

Yeah that’s REALLY constructive rubttal and adds hugely to the future of such games. If you don’t like, stop playing.

Why shouldn’t the OP be allowed to post his/her critique of the game. That’s exactly what gaming forums like this are for.

On topic I sympathize with where your coming from OP but I tend to look at it this way: Any sequel is really just an extension of lore. Period.

Realistically you can’t have the expectation of exactly the same game with new graphics. I’m on the same page when it comes to things like no GvG, lack of an expansion, etc, etc but outside that as a gamer overall I wanted something new. GW1 was done and if GW1 was THAT good this game would be dead and GW1 servers would be still be full….they are’nt.

Part of being a gamer to me is evolving with the game.

Overall I still think GW1 is vastly superior but that’s past-tense and there comes a point in time where you have to put the past behind you and move on or be left behind.

Vanilla Ices “Ice Ice Baby” was the best song ever written but that was 1989, things change, and you can’t spend to much time basing comparisons of the past as validation for critique on the new…unless you have a time machine handy or want to look like that old smelly guy in the the corner of the pub sitting by himself muttering about the “good old days…”….

Not sure what you’re talking about here, no one said he shouldn’t post.
