Perhaps we can get at tutorial about entering water, as new players might be discouraged to find they are swimming and not walking…or a tutorial about trees to help people avoid walking into them. It might be something like, ‘Trees are hard and will hurt your face. Use the mouse to avoid these stationary objects.’
Or perhaps a tutorial to help players understand that weapons have different skills, as picking up a long bow and finding you cant smash it in someone’s face is discouraging.
Or perhaps a tutorial helping new players deal with ‘night time’ , directing us to a heightened awareness of time in order to avoid confusion and alarm.
This might lead to a gender tutorial informing us about physical gender differences, as it can be alarming to make a female character and find, well, gender differences.
All a bit traumatizing really…need a break.
As I read your post I have to wonder, have you ever been present at any kind of usability testing for a game? I doubt it. If you had, you would know how easy it is for new players to get confused on even the simplest of games. Maybe instead of ridiculing these people, you should develop a sense of understand. It’s important for game designers to develop their games so that as many people possible can understand them. It’s harder to do than most people realize.
I don’t understand the attitude that is coming across in many of these forum threads. It seems many people are upset that Anet is doing something to increase the retention of lower level players. I thought this was a good thing. Time after time studies have shown that new players easily get lost in the details. Having been present at usability studies for slot machine games, I find it amazing how easily new players get confused. Let’s face it, there’s not much to slot machine games. MMO’s are complex beasts and it’s easy for new players to get lost. Anything that makes it easier for new players to understand the mechanics of the game should be looked upon as a positive endeavor.
Much of the attitude I see form the players complaining about this seems to stem from elitism and entitlement. The elitism comes from those that say players that get confused at the beginning are stupid and inept. The entitlement attitude comes from the posters that think that for some reason Anet owes them something. Can someone explain to me just what ANet owes a person that has played 3000 hours on a $60.00 game? You’ve played for an average of $0.02 an hour, I think ANet has paid their debt to you.
I think many of those that are complaining really need to take a self check and see where these complaints are coming from. Because from my perspective, the origin isn’t very pretty.

Where is your numerical evidence about minority and majority nonsense?
You’re seriously asking this question? You need to spend about an hour researching and you should be able to find all the evidence you need or you could choose to remain ignorant. The choice is yours.
i know its greedy but i think it would be very beneficial if they could manage both the living story and an expansion, there is no way the living story is going to be able to create enough hype to draw in new people, not like an expansion would. Then once they are here they could see for themselves what it is like.
Why do you want hype? You can’t play hype.
I just completed this last night. Just let the group know you need the event to advance.
And once again we have people adamantly against adding anything they don’t personally intend to play. To hell with everyone else’s fun, right? Such a great attitude to take when trying to grow (or even maintain) a community.
I don’t think you actually get the point. “lategame” (I’ll start using this term because appearently many people think that endgame only refers to super hard content) content and features would benefit everyone. They don’t even have to be lategame to be useful for everyone (like the wardrobe system that we got in the past for example). 2 years after release they should be focusing on more concrete things that would primarily satisfy the majority, not the minority ESPECIALLY if they want to maintain the community. . Adding leveling QoL patches won’t really change how older players will feel and eventually leave.
Late game changes do not benefit the new player that can’t figure out what’s going on while in the downed state.
Companies like Anet track retention rates. They know when players are most likely to drop out. If there is a certain point where a large amount of players are dropping out, they make changes to reduce the drop out rate at this point. Most likely, ANet is seeing large numbers of people dropping out at early stages. These changes are meant to reduce the drop out rate at this point. If large amounts of people were dropping out at the later stages, then they would address those points instead.
To you it appears that large amount of people are dropping out at the later stages because that is your community. These people are the most visible to you, while new players are probably invisible to you. If you associated with new players, you may find their drop out rate is higher than among veteran players.
Anet is out to make a profit, as all companies do. The best way to make that profit is to increase the retention rate where ever it is lowest.
Is the OP trying to say that Anet has no right to try and capture new and returning players? Is he saying the Anet only has the right to develop changes that only he approves of? Funny, I thought more people than him played this game.
BTW, what the original poster doesn’t seem to understand is that Anet owes him nothing more that what existed when he bought GW2.
Why would you put wvw in this discussion?
EDIT: You can’t farm in PvE. There’s no way to make tons of legit gold off of stuff in PvE without cheating or exploits. The megaservers have made it really hard to farm monsters because there are so many people killing monsters for mats (esp. in Orr). If I’m lucky, I’ll end up on a map that has a few mobs to kill. Even with a high magic find and farming those few mobs, monsters don’t always drop salvagable stuff. Alot of times, the monsters will drop junk these days (mangled talons, goop, etc). The only exception to this rule has been Dry Top.
The only place where anyone can get tons of armor to salvage for silk, ectos, and high level stuff is in WvW. My magic find is 115%. I get tons of greens, blues, and yellows. That’s just from playing the game with a medium-sized guild group that is willing to fight battles. If you kill enemy players, you get armor. It’s that simple. The only catch is that one has to be a skilled, high powered player to get bags of loot.
Are you on drugs? Hahah
Zerg train in cursed shore you can make 30gold per hour by selling loots and salvaging weapons and armors you get from events.
Champ train in fgs gets you a lot of champion bags and once again salvage it for materials you can sell on tp.
Train in dry top is also the same.
Are you even playing gw2? All you have to do is tag the mob and you get loots. Each and everyone of you who tags the mob gets loots.
A lot of people farm via pve. You might mistook this game for another game.
Actually, that’s not entirely true. There have been numerous times where I have repeatedly tagged a champ and not gotten any loot. Other people have mentioned this happening to them on the forums. In large zergs, there seems to be a limit of around fifty people that can tag a champ.
How ironic that the smart loot system is a very very stupid idea.
Im not sure if anet devs are playing the game or not but if they do, they shouldve notice how crappy medium and heavy armors are compared to light armors.
If this gets implemented, nobody will run medium armor and heavy armor classes anymore because compared to how much you can earn from salvaging light armors, the two are super cheap.
To Anet:
I hope you play the game once in a while before trying to implement some changes. Last thing we want from this game is to lose class variety.
Warriors are currently non existent in cursed shore farming due to them suck at tagging mobs. By implementing this system, cursed shore will be full of necros and elems since salvaging light armors gives you silk scraps which you can sell for 2silvers each. Nobody will farm using heavy and medium anymore once this smart loot gets implemented.
Think twice anet. Play the game and see firsthand before making changes to farming in game.
Think twice yourself. You haven’t seen how this system is going to work and therefore have no idea what you’re talking about. It would be more prudent to see the results before speaking.
I don’t agree with any part of the Caithe is a traitor theory. If there is a traitor, it is Kasmeer. It’s only a matter of time before the effects of the Nightmare Tower comes to the surface.
Only in the title I’m afraid, Guild wars 2 is nothing like guild wars 1. Why do you think all the guild wars 1 vets are depressed these days, They’ve realised what guild wars 2 really is.
Not all the GW1 vets are depressed. Some of us actually enjoy this game. Please don’t lump me into your negative fantasy.
Unlike you, im guessing that the other 3 people who started the thread also wanted to let anet know that we know what they are doing and thry should stop it.
I love this game. I dont want it to get destroyed by their greed.
Did you know it’s possible to post on an existing thread rather than start a new one? Really, can anyone explain why the forum needs to be spammed with these threads?
I fail to see how this item can destroy the game. Just don’t buy it if you don’t like it. Some people actually like it.
(edited by DarcShriek.5829)
Do we really need four threads for this? Jeez, just don’t buy the thing. No one is forcing you to buy it.
That’d be an anniversary update to remember…
Introducing the Tengu as a playable race or announcing an explansion would be something to remember.
This would make me go: “Whatever”.
Please quit hijacking this thread. This is about what could happened if Jenna died. It’s not about how disappointed you are about life.
In addition, I’d like the locket to show that Kasmeer is next in line.
Queen Jenna has been negligent in one of her responsibilities as Queen. She has not provided an heir. It is commonly thought that she is the last in line. If she is killed it could cause turmoil in Kryta.
However, there is the locket. What would happen if Kasmeer became the queen? How would she produce an heir of royal blood? I guess she could “marry” Lord Faron and the two of them could marry simply for the purpose of providing an heir.
Mordrem Wolves have fur…. Nightmare Hounds do not…..
Mordremoth clearly has been influenced by the Dream……
He is now a dog lover……
If he is a dog lover, then he clearly cannot be a villian, simply misunderstood.
I would have thought that Mordy would use worms more often than he has. He seems to stick to tentacles. Is Mordy corrupting the jungle worm in Caledon? What about the Oakheart in Queensdale? Wasn’t there a thread that claimed he was a minion of Mordy?

Didn’t Scarlet’s tower spread spores across Tyria?
I figured I had a right to not do it if I didn’t want to. I wasnt breaking any rules or anything. Are Devs supposed to use power like that? They want a picture so they will DC me more than once to get it?
Screw you, I do what I want, huh. Have you ever heard of a thing called kindness?

Anyone who isn’t trying to be completely disingenuous would know that I’m not talking about an exact number. We know from many many games over a very long time that somwhere between 10-20% of the player base ever visit the forums. The fact is so well known and been said so many times in so many places that I didn’t really think I needed to spell it out.
But I can if you haven’t heard it before. Most people who play games just play games. An overwhelming majority. They don’t visit forums. They don’t visit build sites. They don’t even visit Dulfy or the wiki.
We’re the small under 20%. You don’t have to believe it. But that’s what it is. Most people buy a game, play it and don’t think very deeply about the experience.
Ahum…starting to push the credulity barrier a bit there. If you got the stats to back up that claim would love to see em.

The blind indeed.
Read their articles on why we play games. The majority of their research is based on PC gamers. Nice try hanging on a soundbyte.
Still waiting for your link that says there’s a sizable difference between the habits of PC gamers and console gamers.

While it’s not his source, you may find it interesting viewing.
Uh, yeah sure. That will bring in roaring crowds.
Well I hope to get a list of content added since the release of the game, because I will be comparing it to Factions and Nightfall for GW1.
I have a better idea. Why not compare the game right now, as it is, to where Guild Wars 1 at this point in time. Guild Wars 2 actually has more content…even after Nightfall was released.
Yeah, and it took them seven years to make the game that way. I understand it has more content, but what has it added since then? GW1 added two new games, which included new stories, maps, lore, as well as two new professions in each game. I want a list of things comparable to that, which is gonna be hard, don’t you think? So far I got Dry Top and fractals, along with some boss revamps.
No matter what Anet does, you will never be happy with GW2. You claim to be asking for an expansion, but it’s not really what you want. You even say so, when you mention that fact that GW1 added 2 new games. That’s what you really want, not an expansion, but 2 new games. You won’t be satisfied, because whatever they add won’t be two new games. My advice to you is to go out and buy yourself two new games. After all, it seems to be what you want.
Kasmeer told him.
Ok, I’ve destroyed the dragon totem but Fenris keeps telling me to make sure they didn’t miss anything. Can’t get Eir and Braham to show up.
Prestige in a videogame… LMFAO
I suggest a set that requires 100 Tequatl AND Wurm kills to craft ( ?° ?? ?°)
Psychology 101;
Games have things like rare drop, special bosses/unlockables and the like because when people get them, they feel better about themselves and feel more energized to engage in that activity. This aspect of the mind is a need called self-Actualization.
It’s not about how you feel about my super shiny. It’s about how I feel about my super shiny that no one else has. Basic, basic gaming design dispels your statement, sorry. And believe it or not, designing a game requires much more psychology than coding and computer knowledge.
But there is a super shiny that very few have. You just refuse to meet the requirements.
I’d actually be pleasantly surprised if I’m proven wrong. Thus far, all my theories on the living story has proven right if proven/debunked. I would love for myself to be wrong somewhere. Especially if it wasn’t completely lorebreaking.
But you’re basically saying someone who is sarcastic is only pretending to be sarcastic. If you look at the direction ArenaNet goes… They aren’t good at hiding these kinds of plot twists. I mean, look at Khilbron in Prophecies or Abaddon in Nightfall. Everyone knew long before the twist behind them was shown what the twist was (that Khilbron was the loch and Abaddon would be the final boss).
This theory has enough potential that I’d agree with it… If it wasn’t ArenaNet. Or if it didn’t counteract the establishment of Anise’s character. Or if the two looked remotely alike. As is, it just doesn’t seem at all likely and all support for it is extremely flimsy – insanely so.
Well, there are all the times that you argues until you were blue in the face that Scarlet wasn’t corrupted.
So miffed… this should have been an expansion. I’d be able to swallow this release structure if it was going to be consistent to the end but I just learned they’re taking a break until fall…
People are going to read this and assume I’m a self entitled brat but you know what, that’s not a fair cop-out anymore. It’s just not.
You don’t hand someone a book and tell them they can only read one chapter a week and THEN tell them oh btw you have to take a break for a couple months when they’re halfway through. It’s just… what!?
…
It sounds like your reading “Game of Thrones”.
By all accounts and likelyhood, if Anet wanted to go through with what how they hinted everything in the buildup instead of adding more and more new characters and content nobody will remember; Mordremoth’s champion would be Faolain.
Faolain and Caithe discovered Mordremoth’s corruption. Caithe resisted it through will, Faolain gave into it for power. She went bonkers, and started spreading it through the Nightmare Court, this being what Scarlet knew and blackmailed Caithe with assumedly through the Aetherblade path/section of Twilight Arbor.
Faolain is still alive, and has merely retreated from the Arbor. She’ll return, probably further insane.Of course this may have already taken a 180 degree turn for “nah, man, original characters”, but.
I don’t believe the nightmare is connected to Mordremoth. Therefore, I don’t believe that Faolain will be his champion. To me the nightmare is part of the dream and that the nightmare court are still protected by it.
All the leaders are targeted. The purpose of the summit is to get all the leaders in one location. Once the summit starts, the grove will be attacked by giant red thorn vines.
I don’t think Rytlock was talking about the foefire curse when he was releasing the Ascalons from a curse. I’m sure there are other curses in Ascalon which he could be getting rid of. It also doesn’t look like he’s in AC which is where he would be stopping the curse from.
These screenshots from the trailer show what appears to be the entrance to Ascalon Catacombs and a location somewhere in the interior which may or may not be Foefire’s Heart.
That’s not Ascalon Catacombs. It’s the Duke’s estate. Please be more careful with your “facts”.
The swords are made by humans, for humans. The rightful king will be a human. Why would Orr make an item to restore the charr after sacrificing themselves to defeat the charr. Seems kind of stupid doesn’kitten
(edited by DarcShriek.5829)
The fact that it is Rylock and not Logan Thackeray the decendant of Gwen that we first met as a child in the fields of Ascalon is a traverse in itself for many GW(1) fans including myself. But what else can we expect from the Arenanet writers who believe that the community would accept a non-human Ascalonian to complete the needed ritual redemption of their long dead past.
We as a whole community include both the veterans and the newcomers are meant to accept that the Human Ascalonians of what is left of the real Ascalon, the land we met at the dawn of the first game – could be freed from its curse by a Charr.
What does the spirits of Gwen , Keiran and Langmar the people that they helped save think of such act of disrespect? Shouldn’t Logan have known by this point in history that of all the people that are now living the legacy of Ebonhawke that regardless of his present duties and obligations it must be he and only he that completes the absolution?
Please direct me to a link that proves that Rhytlock breaks the curse. I’ve seen the teaser, it doesn’t support your position.
Second anniversary. I’ll bet it’s a break for the festival.
GW1 never added a new player race. Why should GW2 when it already has 5.
When people read and hear about the new LS content, they are going to want to participate. Not being able to might just cost players.
I suppose you think it’s unfair that you must be level 80 to kill Zhaitan also. Don’t you think that something should be reserved for end game?
i’m going to explain my stance like this…
a dragon is awake. there are dead bodies scattered all over dry top. the story elements and events continue to be subpar. we are fighting recycled giants and chasing after tornadoes carrying chickens for bits of rocks and sand to up the level of rewards so we can (yet again) craft more loot. that’s pretty meh for a aaa game with a talented team of developers and a great budget.
i don’t know about you, but the content and storytelling has been less than stellar. sorry, but engaging storytelling is not one of anets strong suits and that can clearly be seen from the onset with the personal story and the battle against the dreaded zhaitan. if you were to remove loot and achievements from ps and ls, hardly anyone would participate in the content or story for content and story sake.
i’m glad you like it enough to be aware of what’s going on, but i’m not alone in saying that i still feel completely disengaged at this point. ultimately, i’m asking for more meaningful and engaging content and story if they have 3/4 teams of people working on pumping it out every 2 weeks. that’s it. not much more to figure out or niggle about.
Apparently, you’re not very familiar with GW2 lore. There’s more than one dragon awake, there are currently 5 dragons awake. The first one woke up 200 years ago. All their lives, these people have lived under the shadow of the dragons. Under conditions like that, a sense of urgency can’t possibly exist.
Mass Effect? Seriously? It’s like literature only started 2 years ago.
Would someone please quit serving the Mass Effect kool aid. Apparently someone has had too much. Your drunk thuggie, go home.
Not going to flame you about it, but requesting gamewide feature changes for edge cases (like motion sickness or lag) that are outside the median experience (the game is designed around users connecting at a good rate, that are reasonably tolerant of rapid camera movements like those found in virtually all modern video games) Isn’t really a great idea.
The “average player” is what the cooldown and mechanics were designed around. Your particular issues creat difficulties with it, and I’m sorry for you, but these issues aren’t the game’s problem, or the problem of the medikittener, they are very specific edge cases that fall outside the expected user experience.
You simply can’t design around every single outlier. It’s impossible.
I take it you disagree with the Americans with Disabilities Act also. I can hear you now, “It’s not the door’s fault your wheelchair is too wide to get through. You can’t expect us to put in a new door just for the one or two people out there that might need it do you?”
The PC knows Mordremoth, because the PC is Mordremoth’s illegitimate child.
BTW, Jory is Lord Faren’s love child. That’s why here mom hates nobles.
I remember the Devs talking about the high difficulty of the achievements for this new living story and that not everyone can do them.
So now I’m here to tell you that this didn’t happen, the Achievements are
WAY TOO EASY, none challenged me, even without a guide at release, I completed every single one on my first try, except the NO TRICKS one – the fail caused by a
bug.So PLEASE make it more challenging, I play the story, enjoy it for ~1hour, (it really got good now in Season 2) then replay it for the achievements ~1hour – then I end up having nothing to do than grind for Geodes, go back to PvP or WvW.
Stand to your words and make some Achievements REALLY hard, so only 1% or less of the players will manage to complete them, even Crown Pavillion Liadri was too easy. But a huge + for don’t giving us grind achievements, I liked them, because they gave me something to do, but at the same time I hated them because they where so boring xD.
I want something I need hours and hours to complete, even if it’s just one achievement
Anyone else feeling so?
Edit: Added a strawpoll
By any chance, do you hate the devs? Do you simply want to see them unemployed? See, if they follow your advise, then the devs would all be unemployed. Why would they be unemployed? Because by following your advise, 99% of the players would be ignored. Do know what happens when you ignore 99% of your players? They leave. GW2 loses income, devs get laid off.
This is why the devs develop for the majority of their players. They would rather lose the 1% of players that you speak for, than lose the 99% that you speak against.
This reminds me of the odd conversation that takes place during the Kellach portion of the PS.
So the writing doesn’t seem to care too much about lore consistency (or perhaps they thought that Scarlet as such a brilliant character is more important than the Asura personal story mission chain), and they stated thta it was Scarlet who invented the Steam creatures. Meanwhile in the Asura PS story with the Infinity Ball (which is still available to this day), the evil version of playable character says that it was him/her who invented them in the first place and used them to conquer Tyria. At first I was okay with that, because I thought that Infinity Ball shows parallel universe, until I remembered about a tiny, very important detail: It’s not a different universe, it’s a possible future of the current one (aka the one where scarlet and our character lives). So where do Steam creatures come from?
Because as we all know, an evil, egotistical version of ourselves would never lie to look more awesome. Villians are always honest upright people that would never hurt anyone. Also, asurans would never take credit for another person’s work.
The dragon’s name appears in CoE. It is not unknown to your character, who at this point is assumed to be the commander of the force that took down Zhaitan. There is no reason for your character to not know the new dragon’s name.
This conclusion that Mordy is after a bloodstone is odd to me. Why have none of the other dragons gone after a bloodstone? What makes Mordy so different that he needs a bloodstone. I think the whole bloodstone thing is wishful dreams.
We do not know if it was Mordi. People keep moaning this with zero evidance to back it up. It’s best guess work. As I said in an earlier post, the voices could be anything. From her just being nuts. To it acutely being Mordi. We do not know. So just saying yeah it’s because he can read her mind is not an answer it’s a guess.
How likely is it that two completely unrelated Sylvari would turn up with more or less the exact same symptoms just from “being nuts”?
Assuming its the same villain behind Scarlet and Aerin, Mordremoth is hardly the only explanation. Others I have heard proposed as the entity include Menzies the Mad, Lazarus the Dire, a Steam Brain, and even Abaddon.
Here’s the problem with your other explanations. Something is causing problems with the plants. We know the jungle dragon is awake now and there is evidence from the inquest that he has dominion over plants.
Your other explanations can only be correct if there are two entities doing this, both of them need dominion over plants. None of the other explanations you cite have an entity with dominion over plants.
Simplest explanation in this case is Mordy. Probably the best also.
Now wines have literally captured the waypoints.
Drinking will do that to you.
Scarlet used vines to kill Omadd. That seems to be a good link to whatever is causing these vines to appear. I can think of no other instance where a sylvari used vines to kill some one.
