It is outrageous to get closer to 5000 hrs played and receive non precursor.

Your number of hours played has no effect on RNG drops….just letting you know so you can re-evaluate what is and is not ‘outragous’.

For any chance greater than 0%, no matter how small, the more shots you take at it, the closer the chance to hit upon success at least once gets to 100%.

For example, if you take 5000 gambles at 1 in 1000 odds, the chance to win at least once is a little above 99%.

Seeing how long and how intensively people play this game without getting precursors, the drop chance for those kitten things must be incredibly small. Some might call it outrageous and I wouldn’t argue.

If my math is correct, the actual chance is 99.3279% chance of winning at least once.

You made a slight error – 1:1000 odds means 1 success to every 1000 errors (meaning you have a 1 in 1001 chance of winning – not 1 in 1000).

Assuming these are all Bernoulli trials, the probability is P(At least one success) = 1 – P(all failures) = 1 – (5000C0(1/1001)^0(1-1(1/1001))^5000) = 1 – (1)(1)(1-1(1/1001))^5000 = 1 – 0.00675 = 0.99325

ie. a 99.325% chance at having at least one success in 5000 chances, if the odds are 1:1000.

You would be right if he had said 1:1000, but he didn’t. He said 1 in 1000. Next time you try to one up me, please read more carefully.

Nah, you know how developers are when it comes to killing children in their video games. Everytime a child is murdered in a video game hundreds of whiners come and complain about the game.

Taimi isn’t a child, she’s an asuran. Asurans are fair game, no matter what age because they’re so arrogant.

She’s a Progeny, which is basically the same thing as a child.

I haven’t seen anyone mentioning them on the forums yet. Or maybe I’m just blind. :P

After you play them top one says Glint and bottom one says mersaat so if next update doesn’t have either i would be pritty mad.

That’s odd. I didn’t hear the words “Glint” or “Mursaat” in either clip. I think your imagining things.

The Inquest are often – if not always – presented as a “get knowledge, no matter the cost.”

Typically, the price is paid by others. It makes no sense to destroy yourself. Your knowledge is pretty useless if your dead.

They worked with her on her projects, Much like the role of contractors. However, I can’t imagine them hiring her to work on of their projects.

Why should these materials be tied to a way of playing anyway? Shouldn’t we be stimulated to play how we want to?

So do away with the whole thing and change every dust/fragment/ore drop into an ascended grab bag that generates an amount of a random selected material.

They can still adapt the amount of bags you get per piece of content, or make small/medium/large versions. At least everything has a equal chance to contribute and we won’t have these outrageous differences in availability any more.

You think dragonite ore should drop from the sky on an hourly basis in order to accomodate the players that only wish to stand in Lion’s Arch and chat.

That would destroy this game if Anet did that. I don’t understand why you think people should gain loot just by standing and chatting in Lion’s Arch. Really, you’re taking the “play the way you want” thing way too far.

The Sylvari as Mordremoth Minions?

in Living World

Posted by: DarcShriek.5829

DarcShriek.5829

She could very well have been created / born with the corruption within her, but actively fights it. Using the dream as a means of protecting her offspring from it. It wouldn’t be the first storyline to go that route. Scarlet’s back story sort of implies that something along those lines may be happening. Thus, the dragon may be trying to ‘re-corrupt’ or at least subdue her.

Corruption isn’t really something that can be fought. Once corrupted, the individual’s mind is fully fanatic to serving the dragon whom it was corrupted by.

Thus far, the only counter to dragon corruption that exists is the Forgotten’s magic.

I think our sylvari a bit different than how they should/ would have been, even the Nightmare Court is affected simply due to the Tree’s shielding.

One dragon’s minions are also not corruptible by the other dragons, and Sylvari are seemingly the only race immune to becoming risen, or branded. An interesting coincidence.

Crucible of Eternity shows that dragon minions are corruptible. And nothing indicates that CoE’s cases is impossible in other situations.

Again, Forgotten had magic immune to corruption (and even capable of reverting the mental side of it).

Malyck seems to have been prematurely separated from his Pale Tree. At least that’s what I get from his back story anyway. It’s possible his ‘programming’ was not complete. We really don’t know enough about him, beyond that he comes from a different tree. It’s potentially possible that the tree he comes from was destroyed, which if that turns out to be the case, one would wonder why.

There really is no reason to believe that, and corruption would be instantaneous anyways, as it is with all other Elder Dragons.

Why would Mordy grow his own army? Because he’s a plant creature maybe and that would seemingly fit his nature? Of course, in the previous rises he may not have encountered any issues with his grown army being corrupted against him in any fashion, there weren’t humans at that point.

This really isn’t any different than what the Great Destroyer did in EotN. Primordus wasn’t awake then, wasn’t truly in control. The Great Destroyer was in control of the army, building it for his master. Spreading their control.

Similarly here, the Pale Tree is the one in control of the army. If all Sylvari were like the Nightmare Court, and the Pale Tree evil, you don’t think their actions would be similar?

Personally, I think there are too many “coincidental” similarities. As Gibb’s would say – “There’s no such thing as coincidence.”

Why would Mordremoth grow an army that don’t listen to him and are wanting to kill him and his ilk?

The Great Destroyer existed from the previous Dragonrise. Elder Dragons don’t corrupt when they’re hibernating, their champions left behind (Great Destroyer, Drakkar, etc.) do it for them. They are not born while the Elder Dragons hibernate, and the dragon champions are always just as fanatic for their master whether their master is awake, sleeping, or even dead (as shown with Arah explorable). I think there’s a very fine difference between the Great Destroyer – or any other dragon minion, even Glint – and the Pale Tree (even if we were to assume for argument’s sake that the Pale Tree is a champion).

The Nightmare Court is still anti-Elder Dragon though. They just have a different belief for how to go about it.

Coincidences don’t exist in NCIS because the NCIS writers ensure there are no coincidences. If a writer wishes for a coincidence to exist, it will exist.

Konig,

Once again you misrepresent the affects of corruption when you say that corruption cannot be fought and the the corrupted individual’s mind is fully fanatic to the corrupting dragon.

You know this isn’t true, yet you keep repeating it.

Sincerely,

Kellach

Not to mention how, IRONICALLY, they’re killing the concept of a LIVING world. If the changes to the OPEN world won’t disappear, what’s the POINT in having a STORYLINE? Imagine how it would be if players defeated SCARLET but her ARMIES never stopped INVADING a given map? Or if she NEVER stopped appearing in the MARIONETTE content even after we had DEFEATED her?

The Sylvari as Mordremoth Minions?

Posted by: DarcShriek.5829

DarcShriek.5829

Except there are more sylvari that aren’t from the grove that aren’t evil. I really really hate the sylvari as minions theory, it just holds no water and I’m sick of it.

shrug
It may not be right, but it certainly holds water.

For instance what you’ve just said is easily countered by exploring “where is Mordremoth”. If he is imprisoned and his powers restrained, then all of the great trees that birth the Sylvari may be have their free will, not just the Pale Tree.
We don’t know that Ventari’s tablet is why the Pale tree isn’t evil, just that that’s where her teachings come from. She was free to to do as she pleased, she liked the teachings and so it’s why her Sylvari are so active in the world (act with wisdom, but act). Other trees made other choices. They may not even know for sure where they came from.
We know very little about how the high level dragon generals work. If they were planted/raised without their Elder Dragon’s influence they may have free will. It may be in shaping them as they grow that the elder dragons assert their control on their generals.

That all allows the Nightmare to be a part of the Sylvari that was locked away by their trees intentionally (because without their master around to back them up why would the other trees choose make waves and kitten people off in Mordremoth’s name, they’d be vulnerable and the major races would wipe them out). But there are also other possiblilities:
- The Nightmare is a deep part of the Sylvari the trees didn’t know about/didn’t have to actively affect, and after denying the dream the court eventually dug it up (either through soul searching, or dabbling in sadism which aligned with that deep agenda).
- The Nightmare is the influence of a dragon the Nightmare court has accessed, and while the Sylvari are dragon minions, they actually carried no “taint” of it, as their dragon is imprisoned/asleep. Heck there could be a dragon whose powers lie in nightmares and dreaming, and the Sylvari’s connection to their Dream just makes them more vulnerable to it’s power.

The theory in general allows for a lot of wiggle room on specifics kitten much is still unknown about the Elder Dragons and their limits/how they do things.

Their are other things that add some credence but don’t have much weight on their own (the way sylvari are bred), but the main piece of evidence and what I think is the key part of the theory is:
Why are their no dragon minion Sylvari? No corrupted, no undead, no branded. If we find another reason for that, or we find some of Primordus’s minions co-opted by another dragon (though a once off probably wouldn’t do, as with effort/luck Primordus ended up with a destroyer that could breed, doesn’t mean he can do it again easily) that is when the theory will no longer hold water.
Or, more likely at the moment, just finding out for sure one way or another in coming LS :P

200. actually that number might be wrong, but gw eotn there was svannir, corrupted by jormag FAR before he woke up. And from what I can gather, sylvari are immune to dragon corruption, while the dragon minions are not immune to such effects. I don’t think breeding is an issue

Oh and also the sylvari don’t corrupt things, nor does the pale tree.

Technically, Svannir was corrupted by Jormag’s champion, Drakkar. If the NC are followers of Mordy then it doesn’t make sense for a splinter group to join Scarlet unless the entity that was controlling her was some how related to Mordy. I can’t see a group of risen, deciding to follow an entity that wasn’t related to Zhaitan. Nor can I see the Sons of Svannir following someone not related to Jormag.

My position of the nightmare court is that the nightmare is just another side of the dream. It is the ying to the dream’s yang.

How would it give the White Mantle the advantage? If we work together to take down Mordremoth, they’re left no better than before. By contrast, if we leave them to face Mordremoth alone, we play with fire and risk the dragon becoming too powerful, and if we stop to fight any White Mantle we encounter, we could well both lose.

As for the politics, Jennah wouldn’t have to be involved. And remember that any link between Caudecus and the Mantle is purely speculative at this point- we have nothing to say that Caudecus is aware of the Mantle presence in the bandits, let alone what the particulars of any potential relationship might be.

How can you consider a link between the bandits and the white mantle to be speculation when so many bandit outpost fly the white mantle insignia?

Caudecus may not be aware that he is connected to the white mantle, but he doesn’t need to know it. He is connected to the bandits, who are connected to the white mantle.

As for politics, the problem isn’t Jennah’s involvement, but Caudecus’. If he rises in power, he can use that power to challenge Jenna. This something the order of whispers does not want to happen as he does not see the dragons as a threat.

Which is why an allegiance will not happen, the bandits most likely don’t regard the dragons as a threat. Another point that is being forgotten is the bandits relationship with the inquest and the nightmare court. If the other dragons haven’t forced them to ally, the the fifth one won’t either.

The Order of Whispers also wouldn’t stand for it. Anything that gives the White Mantle an advantage would be discouraged by them. They don’t want to risk Queen Jenna losing the throne to Minister Caudecus. They feel it would be bad for the fight against the dragons.

I disagree with that last bit. There’s plenty of room for the Mantle to be allies of convenience when going after Mordremoth- either side would have to be asinine to fight the other when they’re standing in the shadow of an Elder Dragon.

It would be even more asinine to ally with the bandits. Queen Jenna has to be fully aware that they are a front group for the White Mantle and an ally of her enemy Minister Caudecus. It would be political suicide for her to ally with them. The shining blade would never stand for it.

We’ve already destroyed one dragon without allying with the White Mantle, destroying a second one without them should be possible also.

“producing new minions” is not the same as “giving live birth as a Dragon minion”. There are a lot of cases where we see minions with the primary or sole purpose of producing new minions (there is one such case in Straits of Devastation, and the Destroyer Queen and Great Destroyer were both this as well). But none of them get pregnant and give birth all while being a Dragon minion – which means having all organs turned into some element (or just rotten through).

How can something that is 100% crystal, ice, or fire “become pregnant”?

Are Mordy’s minions made of crystal, Ice, or fire? Most likely not. Mordy’s champions may be able to reproduce.

I don’t understand why anet is so focused on the living story, when they should be using their time and resources on providing permanent content that wil keep players playing. The TP is a blessing. No doubt in my mind.

You seem to forget that the cash-shop hurts the game meaning less players overtime.

Now that’s one hell of an assertion to throw out there without any supporting evidence. You have something demonstrable to show that the cash shop is hurting GW2?

It’s a pretty big one considering the cash shop model is also applied to games like those on facebook, and mmos that also include a MONTHLY subscription. RFO was one such game until Crapmasters failed to maintain distro rights from the game’s owning company.

I agree, it is a pretty kittenertion indeed. It’s also still without evidence and based solely on opinion. If he wants to show any validity to the claim he’s going to have to show me the data. Show me the droves of people leaving GW2 because of the cosmetic cash shop. I have no reason to take his word for it, especially when there’s absolutely nothing in the cash shop that detriments my play in any way, shape or form.

I can not provide that information just like you can’t. I do see many people leave but of course I do not have the complete numbers just like you don’t have the numbers that to disproof it. So you ask for something you know nobody can deliver, however that does not yet means it’s not correct. It only means there is no date to proof it.

Besides I dear to bed that many of the people who do not like the game and might not like it because of effects from the cash-shop don’t even them-self directly link it to the cash-shop. Somebody who liked to hunt down mini’s in mmo’s might simply say he dislikes the game-play.. there is nothing to do. Not even linking it to the fact that mini’s are almost only cash-shop items. As an example.

Lastly you now do look at your own game-play as sort of proof or at least reason to disbelieve my statements. What is funny because you stated that that was not a valid source.

Anyway, yeah it may not hurt any type of gamer. I however did give direct examples how it does hurt some. So understanding that should not be that hard.

In other words, I can’t disprove the Easter Bunny, therefore he must exist.

The TP is great for being a TP but the fact you cannot look up light, heavy armor and only get that is annoying.

Hopefully Anet will address the TP in the next QoL upgrade. The UI for that thing is dreadful.

ArenaNet is very strict when it comes to verbal abuse. If you see any player doing that, just right click and report and they will be dealt with.

Trust me, I do. However, it seems that there are so many of these obnoxious people that reporting seems sisyphusian.

I hate the Temple of Grenth because it’s become a jerk magnet. Players get abusive if you don’t fail the temple defense event. Then they get abusive when players don’t play the assault correctly. It’s a no win situation for civilized players.

Some say that LS 1 was a disaster. Maybe that was the fault of Mordermoth waking.

Should we start complaining about the floor in the Queen’s Gauntlet now?

I always thought it would be cool if it turns out that the Asura were once slaves of the Mursaat.

New content?

Frankly I can wait a few more months if it meant SOLID permanent content with new zones opening up. The LS was a decent experiment but ultimately a failure…

The LS was not a failure. It kept a lot of people engaged with GW2. Even now, people are wanting the second season to start. Just because you didn’t like it, doesn’t mean it was a failure. There are many examples of how the LS succeeded.
