We kill sylvari and stack them like cordwood. Whack’em and stack’em.
Epilogue: That's it? (spoilers, obv)
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Two sentences of a dragon and that’s it. No one saying, “shouldn’t we go try to find the dragon?” Instead it’s, “my leg hurts,” “I don’t wanna talk about things, I wanna make things,” “I just asked for a chicken,” and “here’s my sister, and I’m a lesbian.” They vaguely alluded to Scarlet interrupting the leyline because she wanted to mess with the dragon. So… Mord didn’t ask her to do it? Why isn’t anyone worried about a new dragon? Why isn’t anyone researching the new dragon?
Why isn’t anyone worried about a new dragon?
Did you miss the part where Marjory’s sister says she going to Brisban Wildlands for a while?
Has anyone been to Brisban to see if there are any changes yet?
I actually laughed out loud when Braham interrupted Scarlet’s offer to explain her motives.
Scarlet: “Oh noes! You beat me! I bet you’re wondering why I did it. I’ll tell you all about my motives in a monologue at the end of act three as all poorly written villains do…”
Braham: “NO! WE’RE NOT EVEN GONNA GIVE YOU THE CHANCE! WE’RE GONNA KILL YOU AND NEVER LET YOU EXPLAIN ANYTHING.”
Scarlet: “Um… Okay then.”
Player: unceremoniously plants a stick in Scarlet
After all, Arenanet can’t have Scarlet explaining something that they can’t even explain themselves…
>Scarlet dies
>Cutscene plays showing drill hitting leyline resevoir
>Dragon wakes up at end of cutscene“Well, guys, I have no idea why she did it! We needed an exposition dump to find out!”
Um, buddy, we still don’t know why she wanted to wake up the dragon. Crazy? Under orders? Wants the world to burn? Wants somewhere green? Wants to feed Audrey II? Who knows?
Does it really matter why? Would knowing why change anything? She did it, because she wanted to.
It’s characters that are important to a game, not plot.
Ive seen the inside of her apartment and it is pretty utilitarian. Little in the way of either carpets or drapes.
So it’s not just her head that’s bald?
I just can’t see the pact defending Lion’s Arch. It’s simply not their job. As far as anyone knew, it wasn’t a dragon attack, and that’s what the pact was created to defend. Lion’s Arch doesn’t belong to any of the different kingdoms, so all that was available to defend it was the lionguard. After all, why should Jenna care if some pirates get killed? Why should the pact care if some pirates are killed? Lion’s Arch chose to live as an independent city, therefore it should die as one.
The problem you have is that many leaders have successfully led through fear and intimidation, despite your claim of the opposite.
Yup, worked really well for Caligula . . .
Congratulations, you had to go back in time 2000 years to find an example. Here’s a more contemporary example. North Korea is in it’s 3rd generation of terror. Seems to work there. Terror doesn’t work everywhere, but it does work. It has worked and will continue to work despite the claims of the romantics.
I could invoke Godwin’s Law and not have to go back 2,000 years, either.
Oh, Stalin didn’t go over very well, either. How are we measuring success here?
I will set the bar and say that vast quantities of your people dying and absolutely despising you does not count in a success, doubly so if they try to or succeed in getting you killed or yanked (rightfully) out of office. So.
Robert Mugabe, Lenin (so many assassination attempts..), Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot, Nicholas II of Russia (aka Bloody Nicholas..), Leopold II, Mao Zedong.
There are many more men like these, and history does not look kindly on any of them, for very good reason.
Allow me to point this out a second time regarding Machiavelli.
http://eaglefeather.honors.unt.edu/2007/article/233North Korea is in it’s 3rd generation of terror. Seems to work there.
I think our definitions of “seems to work” might be fundamentally different.
I would link you to the things going on in North Korea right now, but I can’t because the content is too.. extreme to link. I will say “people are starving to death in large numbers in NK and worse things are happening to them than that” and leave it there. You can google if you feel inclined to learn more.
Show me anything you want about NK. But understand this, those people are being starved intentionally. The leadership of NK is not being starved, only the people are. It is intentional. It’s part of the whole fear thing and keeping the people powerless to do anything about it.
Lenin did pretty good also. His machine lasted 70 – 80 years. Stalin also did well. The Khmer Rouge screwed up though. You’re confusing the well being of the country with the well being of the individual. History is full of examples of evil rulers that lived very well while their country suffered.
Also, a recommend you read up on the biography of Rockefeller. This man would have made Machiavelli proud.

SoR WvW seems practically non existent these days.
I don’t miss it. The 20th century called, they want they’re game play back.
It works. I don’t mean to burst A-Net’s bubble with the whole, “ground shaking” idea of removing the trinity, but there’s a reason why every MMO uses it. It’s not as frustrating as every mob being uncontrollable; since, with no tank I guess that’s what A-Net wants. As a thief, it is very frustrating to have a boss turn around and one shot you in a split second. Everything PvE oriented is uncontrolled, and very badly structured.
This lack of holy trinity accounts for the reason why the endgame of GW2 is so bad. Raids for example are not feasible since it would be too hectic, and not very fun. Dungeons are the farthest you get, even then as a melee you’d be constantly hopping back to dodge a backswing, that you might as well re-roll Mesmer.
I don’t know about others, but while forming groups for dungeons there is always a need of a tank, A-Net will never officially take away the trinity anyways, guardians will always be there for tanking. As a thief, will always NOT tank.
With the holy trinity everything is controlled and theres no “WTF” unless it’s your fault because you didn’t move out of the bad. WoW’s endgame is very much so superior to GW2’s, and will forever be, unless some sort of trinity is occurring. And GW2 will always be inferior for this reason.
I find your definition of the holy trinity to be offensive.
Heal-o-Tron will become Death-o-Tron.
I would personally say that cutting someone’s skin off and wearing it seems much more brutal to me, but the honest point is that neither side is good. Both sides of done shameful things for their own greater good.
Cows must hate us.
The problem you have is that many leaders have successfully led through fear and intimidation, despite your claim of the opposite.

In many of the bandit camps, evidence of White Mantle involvement is openly displayed.
Do you have any examples or are you just making this stuff up as you go? Feel Free to use North Korea as an example if you wish.
There is plenty of examples in both history and fiction of this being the case. I won’t name one specifically as I feel the question is a trap.
Thats looks like a cool setup for a living story, don’t you agree?XD
I have to disagree based on how the current season has been presented. I don’t feel this content could be done properly in the format the Living Story is produced.
The problem you have is that many leaders have successfully led through fear and intimidation, despite your claim of the opposite.
To rule with fear is to become a slave to fear. One will become more and more paranoid of the people they are suppose to lead, which in turn leads them to set the foundations of their own demise. A truly great leader won’t automatically decide total annihilation for an enemy. They will know what enemies must be completely annihilated and what enemies can be manipulated into actually switching allegiance or at least aiding them in their own plans. They wouldn’t necessary have plans put in place in case a given person decides to become an enemy, they will however have the mind to quickly adapt to the change in situation.
Do you have any examples or are you just making this stuff up as you go? Feel Free to use North Korea as an example if you wish.
When you bare in mind that they didn’t (I assume were unable to) even keep a undestroyed version of LA running alongside this LS version, for the story instances that take place in it, the idea of them running 2 different versions of Orr at the same time (especially as it’s larger and so much more goes on there) doesn’t seem feasible.
Also how would they implement this? If my Orr maps are different because I’ve finished the story on my character, then I wouldn’t be able to play in the same Orr maps with friends that haven’t finished the story. It’s not like they’d instance the 3 maps that make up Orr.
If they could find a way to do it, I’d love that, as it does annoy me some what that even though I teared through Zhaitans armies and went on to kill him there are swarms of risen controlling the place. But theres no way (I can think of) in which they can do this whilst keeping it accessible to everyone.
Guild Wars 1 did it, there were 2 versions of Cantha, before the Afflicted were purged and after.
Check and mate.
It only took six years to come up with the second version of Cantha.
Listen to Iron Maiden.
Who was the Iron Maiden fan that named this achievement?
But why do all human major characters have to be beautiful?
The kiss scene sounded fake to me for this reason: both characters looked like dolls. Perfect skin, perfect makeup, the face of a 20 year old victoria secret model.
In general, human models lack the variety of norn ones (to make a comparison with another humanoid species), and that’s a pity.
Because no one wants to look at ugliness, male or female. That’s why all heroes, male or female, appear as cultural ideals.
Whoa, whoa whoa. When did The Prince become some sort of inviolable canon? As I recall my history, it was written in a time and place where family connections among the nobles were very important, and a wrong to one member reflected on the whole. That is why he made that recommendation.
Demmi has already turned against her father, so that point is moot.
Only if she’s the one that kills him. She may have turned against him, but she decides Jenna had him killed, it may justify his actions in her mind. Best to kill her also. To quote the move Casino, “Why take chances?”.
What is the recent obsession with dailies around here lately? Such a fuzz about such a miniscule part of the game that is done in 20 minutes top (for 5/5). And they are “endgame”? Seriously?
It’s not really a recent obsession. It’s been with the game since dailies started. I share the same opinion as you. But a large percentage of “completionists” out there can’t handle the pace and blame Anet for their problem. Many completionists think that they are the only people that play and that the game should be tailored entirely to their needs.
Elder dragon ranks need more hierarchy. It seems we put Glint, Svanir, Kellach Shatterer and Scarlet all at approximately the same rank, when obviously they aren’t.
-And hence, Queen Jennah wasn’t a Machiavellian when she was younger. Of course age isn’t really an excuse, as there were plenty of Machiavellian teenagers in history. But that’s beside the point.
They make it sound like she wasn’t even a teenage, that she had no power. It isn’t a case of a teenager going “my father died, I call the shots now!” but more seemingly a, idk, 12 year old perhaps? Maybe younger? losing her father and all the grown ups outright refusing to let a child on the throne (and rightfully so, since a child couldn’t rule a nation). She was crowned 10 years ago, but that isn’t when her father died.
If Queen Jennah still isn’t a Machiavellian by now, or at least knows how to defend herself against one, she will be destroyed by Caudecus. Because Caudecus is clearly Machiavellian, and he will eventually win this Game of Thrones. Perhaps Logan and us do good heroes will be able to clean up her mess and save her at the end. But that would be lame, boring and predictable.
There’s a pretty huge difference between being a Machiavellian and being smart. Even then, being Machiavellian does not necessitate being smart. Politics is a battle of brain and subterfuge, not evil deeds.
-Ruling by fear doesn’t directly mean evil. The leader (Queen Jennah) may have very noble goals. But unless she can suppress, fear and control her enemies, she will eventually face her own demise.
Doesn’t need to be evil. Suppression is what leads to revolts, done for the better or the worse. This is why dystopias are viewed as “bad” even if they really aren’t.
-Of course at the end it will be some un-linkable guy that do the dirty work, so it cannot be traced back to Queen Jennah. However Queen Jennah will not directly ask the un-linkable guy. Instead she will ask Anise to do it.
E.g.
Queen Jennah: Anise, I believe that Caudecus need to be removed, permanently.
Anise: Yes my queen. That’s it. The Queen has given his order. Anise will see it though. Caudecus will be found to have hung himself or died of a mysterious disease or died during a robbery. The Queen doesn’t need to plan every single details out. Her underlings will get it done.
It is still more complicated than this, y’know…
It’s not enough for just Caudecus to die. He must also be discredited, shown to be a traitor. Also, his wife and children must also die.
His wife is dead. His daughter is working for the Order of Whispers, supposedly having given them dirt on his actions.
Dirt we never learned what it was.
His daughter still needs to die with him. Machiavelli states that the entire family must be neutralized. His daughter can very well become a danger to the queen if the Minister is killed.
There is no canon that links rata sum to the Mursaat.
In September of 2012 people were claiming that zergs were killing this game. It’s an old tale.
I’m affraid not.
The most annoying npcs are always unkillable in this game.
That’s not true. We killed that apple selling char that worked for the Order of Whispers. He’s probably the most annoying character in the whole game.
no real human beings can be such a bunch of annoying drama queens like the Destiny Edge.
Clearly, you have not been around tabletop gamers for very long in your lifetime. Trust me . . . there’s worse which inhabits your Friendly Local Gaming Store.
Teachers. Teachers are the biggest drama queens I know. It seems that being around kids all day rubs off on them. Not all teachers of course, but more teachers than other professions I am familiar with.
Jormag was hibernating off the map to the north, but his champion Svanir was made while at Drakkar Lake (which we could go to in GW1 and can in fact still see where it would roughly be on the GW2 map).
Proximity means jack kitten.
Actually, proximity has some bearing on the case of Svanir. It wasn’t Jormag that corrupted Svanir, it was Drakkar. Drakkar was only able to corrupt Svanir when he was at the lake. Therefore, in the case of Svanir, proximity does matter.
I don’t see where it matters in Scarlet’s case though. But we don’t really know if the corrupter was Mordremoth or someone in his command.
It’s funny how Kellach tried to kill Queen Jenna to cure his corruption,…hey wait a minute I thought corrupted people didn’t have free will. Kellach was trying to find a cure for his corruption. That means that at least for a short time, corrupted individuals do have free will.

As the sylvari appear to have wiped from historical memory, it is reasonable to consider that Sylvari may have fought on the losing side. They may have been dragon minions in the past.
This is contradictory.
The dragons have always been the winner. So if they fought on the losing side, they would have fought dragon minions and be wiped out by them – hence the lack of records, as dragon minions don’t write.
Also, did you ever consider the possibility that they’re not mentioned in historical records because they didn’t exist in history?
If the dragons have been the winners, then where have they been for the last 10000 years.
If the sylvari didn’t exist, then neither would the seeds. Seeds that someone considered important enough to guard.
It’s not enough for just Caudecus to die. He must also be discredited, shown to be a traitor. Also, his wife and children must also die.
I did not demand an expansion. You may think it is “by default”, but noone said a new personal story requires an expansion. I’d be fine with a new story in the current enviroment.
How do you plan on getting this personal story? You’ve already stated that getting in the living story is unacceptable. The only choice left is an expansion.
@torukmakto
With as many complaints as there were for achievements that took group effort, I doubt you’ll ever see anything server wide. Imagine the leeching problem with server wide achievements.
I’ve always liked the Aetherblades. I hope Mai Trin has taken over and that we see them again.
More homosexual relationships
More zergs
More sexy robots in high heels.
Every time I see a new thread demanding a new expansion, I always wonder “Why has no one created a thread demanding a new expansion before now?”.
Was that an satisfying ending? **SPOILERS**

But this also raises a big question, when Scarlet saw the Eternal Alchemy, why did she find Mordemoth there? Why is the dragon linked with the Eternal Alchemy? How is it linked? And since she’s so bizarrely smart, why did she fell into such a trap that has the possibility to wake up a kitten dragon!? Was it that she thinks that the Pale Tree and the Elder Dragon needs to have a fight? To make them on equal ground and power? Makes sense if you look at it that way.
TL;DR: No.
There is no link between the dragon and the eternal alchemy. It was a mistake on Ceara’s part. She was deceived by the dragon.
People are screaming for an expansion because they want new content. People still don’t understand that a paid expansion is not needed to give them the content they want.
I like the characters, I just don’t understand Marjory’s attraction to Kasmeer. I would think she’d find her annoying.

The breach maker has it’s own POI. It will remain in some form after this episode. Scarlet designed the Breachmaker to continue for some time once it hit the ley lines. My guess is that the top part will be destroyed, while the bottom part will continue it’s mission from beneath a pile of rubble.
@Vexander: Never heard such a thing. Thus far, only two sylvari trees are known – the Pale Tree and Malyck’s tree.
@Darc: By order of logic, if sylvari were dragon minions then the “terrible plant creatures” which protected the seeds would likely be such too. And you keep calling them guardians… but they could have been wardens (as in prison wardens) or the like, but I digress. I never claimed the plant creatures were sylvari. But they most likely are the precursors (predecessors may be a better term given the weapon usage? :P) to them.
“Where did it come from” doesn’t really matter with the Thaumanova in regards to the Inquest capturing them. After all, it’s where it went that matters as that’s how the Inquest would have gotten it – not where it came from.
Prisons have lots of guards. Only one warden. The creatures guarded the seeds inside the cave. The seeds were protected. An enemy would have them destroyed.
It still bothers me that there is no mention of the sylvari in history. It would appear that Malyck’s tree is not that far from the sleeping dragon. This makes the theory that “none of the elder races ever met the sylvari” unlikely.
History is written by the victors. There are no examples of the any dragon being downed by only one race. We know the other races fought all 6 of the elder dragons. There is just no way they wouldn’t have seen the sylvari while fighting Mordremoth as he is currently slumbering in the Sylvari’s back yard. As far as the appearance is concerned, if Malyck can look like a humanoid, then previous sylvari most likely did also.
As the sylvari appear to have wiped from historical memory, it is reasonable to consider that Sylvari may have fought on the losing side. They may have been dragon minions in the past.
Corrupted sylvari may be dying because the dream is killing them. The assumption that all sylvari cannot be corrupted is invalid as only sylvari from the pale tree have been tested. We must test sylvari that are from different trees before the conclusion that sylvari can’t be corrupted is valid.
(edited by DarcShriek.5829)
As someone who plays a Sylvari main, all I can say is: “It’s OK, there’s more where we came from.” :P
That’s why we’re gonna burn down Pale Tree. Weiners and Marshmallows on me!
She says that Tyria has a new master. She is an element in the set named Tyria. Therefore, Mordremoth is her master.
There are some more powerful creature out there and the dragons are quite underpowered. With a sight on dragon themselfes it is questionable why a single dragon should be the master of Tyria. She also says that we will bow before the new master, which is less threaty than it sounds, because you might also bow before a master which is generous (and we know nothing about the “new master”). Dragon is a quick shot and short sighted … there is more.
You’re going to be disappointed.
Chest tattoo skins would be cool!
And in the end of everything, Scarlet didn’t want to be saved or changed “for the better”, because she didn’t think she did anything wrong. All the death, the entire destruction of a city… Nothing. It was all part of her plan to free the “new Master”.
It was a plan to free Mordremoth, nothing says exactly that he is her master or the voice in her head. That are all assumptions. And I like to get further and say that we are in a comfortable situation.
If someone witnesses a big problem in the real world and wants to change it, because it’s unfair against a lot of people who don’t have a word in the community and are jailed away, which way does he have to go? Is it a simple and good way to go through the world and tell all about the iniquity? How many will listen? From those who will listen, how many will believe you? What if the real threats (using legal unfairness) are among the common people that you tell about unfairness, will you be heared? … It’s hard to get recognized sane if you know know some endangering secrets and no one will believe you. So take it insane and ignore the situation or change the situation and get recognized insane, while you aren’t. The controlling entity is implied, but not confirmed and the diary looks more like an enduring conversation than a take over.
She says that Tyria has a new master. She is an element in the set named Tyria. Therefore, Mordremoth is her master.
It’s ok for me to kill countless mobs, but if I’m forced to watch two hot chicks kiss then my values have been sacrificed!
Hey Anet, if your gonna force me to sacrifice my values, could you at least make the chicks nekkid. Make it worth my while.
This naked enough?
Also, having been forced to see Lord Faren in nothing but underwear . . . twice . . . I’d rather ask them for reparations for that.
Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about baby! I think Faren’s going to be bummed about the news of Scarlet’s death. I think he wanted to get underneath her fig leaf.
They will remodel it into a giant robot and kill the new dragon with it.
Hopefully, it will be pink and we can study karate.
I would actually buy it even if it was for 2000 gems. xD Not that this is an invitation for ArenaNet to do that, 800 gems is already much.
I think it should be 300 gems max if just the corset, but if the give us a whole set I wouldn’t mind forking over 10 more dollars to anet.
They charge 400 gems for just some shoulders or some gloves and you think they would only charge 300 for this. 600 gems at least.
All I’ve ever gotten is a few shards and a lot of garbage.
The most annoying npcs are always unkillable in this game.
