Well, this won’t be a problem for me any longer because I’ve decided to go play something else. If I wanted a kittening gear treadmill, I would have stuck with WoW, but ANet seems to have long term plans and they want to attract mindless grinders and people with too much time on their hands. How is grinding fun? How are gear treadmills fun?

When they work for something, they should be rewarded. If you are complaining about someone else having higher stats than you, then maybe you should just go play the game! If you can’t grind what you need, then figure out how to play the market and make the money to buy your way to your weapon. Did mommy and daddy never reward you for work as a child, or were you just spoiled?

What’s really funny about this is that some people actually LIKE pointless grinding and they believe that anyone else who doesn’t like pointless grinding as much as they do should be punished. I have plenty of chores to do around my home, I don’t need them in my gaming. But the thing is, I’m going to be forced to grind for ascended if I want to be on an even playing field with the masochists who enjoy that sort of thing.

Then you completely missed the point of my comparison. I was pointing out that, as a measure of becoming effective in WvW, you’re already pretty much there simply by being 80 with exotic gear. If you don’t PvE or craft (which some people apparently think they should never be “forced” to do), the time and effort spent getting to the level cap and gearing yourself with exotics is going to be considerable. Not only that, you will be killed many times by players through no fault of your own, simply because they are stronger than you.
What you are doing here is arbitrarily applying the “fair game” standard. If you want an even playing field in WvW, you should also be arguing for the elimination of uplevels, which would—ironically—actually emphasize the role of “forced” PvE in terms of end WvW effectiveness.
No, I’m not. It was understood, from the beginning, that to be fully effective in WvW you had to be 80 in exotics and that was it. If you entered at a level lower than 80 you were at a disadvantage but you were able to actually level while doing WvW. This ascended grind kitten entirely contrary to what was originally stated which is why people are so annoyed. I would’ve stuck with another game if I wanted to grind for gear.

Really, all of this sounds like an excuse to have a continual advantage over players who refuse to grind (because we were fooled by ANet). Maybe you should play WoW, where that type of thing is rampant? Go grind conquest point gear and stomp people in blues in battlegrounds. Because that’s fun, apparently. Well, to be fair, fun for YOU.

The work required to level a toon to 80 and gear it with exotics doesn’t matter to you, for no better reason than you have already done it. That math is done purely on weapon comparison, it isn’t then matched against over-all stats.
The attack gained from exotic to ascended was ~55. Depending on your spec, thats 0.5-2%. The major stat gain is 0.5%, the minor stat gain is even less. Of your overall stats.
Again, if it is actually, “only” 0.5-2%, then what does it matter if it’s downgraded?

My disappointment has been increasing over the past month. I wish they would just come out and state their intent and future plans so I can figure out whether or not I want to spend more time with this game.

I’m kind of annoyed that an engineer is better at confusion than a mesmer.

Mesmers who are supposed to be ‘THE’ confusion class meanwhile other classes are running around with these runes and doing way more confusion. These runes are good for a Mesmer but OP on engineers and some other classes.
Especially frustrating is the fact that I have to trait very specifically AND have these runes AND give up certain things in order to make “just ok” use of this one condition.
Do engineers have to do that?

The thing is, that I like the game for the most part, so I can always kitten around on alts (but not gear them, hahaha).
But I gotta laugh at all those people saying it’s “only a 2% difference” and “you can still do ok”. If ascended gear “doesn’t matter” then what’s the problem with downgrading ascended gear to exotic in WvW areas?
It’s like the member a few posts above me said. It lets you stomp undergeared players with less effort. Kind of reminds me of WoW in that you grind “honor points” to get the first tier of gear, then grind some harder to come by points for the second tier of gear, and then some other type of points to upgrade that second tier of gear. All the while, you’re continually at a disadvantage and it’s NOT fun. I know, because I tried it.
I don’t want to see that happen in this game.
If you really want skill to matter and skill level to shine, then you remove gear differences.

Apparently you’ve never played a game that is a gear grind if you consider Gw2 to be anywhere near a gear grind.
Typically a gear grind game completely locks you out of content if you don’t meet certain levels of gear. Gw2 doesn’t have that. Gear and a proper build does make things easier, but you can do all content in greens/exotics and some even in blues. Heck, you don’t even have to be max level to finish most of the dungeons in Gw2.
The game is very casual as far as gear grinding goes.
No, it doesn’t lock me out but it puts me at a continuous disadvantage in an environment which is supposed to be about skill.
It’s still better than exotics and therefore still alters outcomes.

Well, this karma nerf is nice in a way…
I don’t feel compelled to complete my daily quest any longer. I wasn’t that interested in grinding out a legendary, now even less so. And if I get forced to grind for ascended gear so I can compete in WvW(haven’t done it at all, but would like to start), then I’m probably done with this game.
I feel like the aspects of other MMOs that made me unhappy and lead me to quit those MMOs, are slowing being introduced into this game.
Well, that’s disappointing. I was hoping to give my mesmer a real duelist look but it doesn’t seem possible. Don’t get me wrong, I do like most of the armor (NOT the lvl 80 crafted though, bleh, it would’ve been better as a full gown) but I do wish they’d open up more options for female characters. It doesn’t even have to be new models, just give us a choice to use the male armor models or something.
Overall minor complain…thank god it’s not like it is in Tera.

Primarily looking for pants. Could do without the thigh high boots, preferring shorter boots and maybe a fancy “duelist” type jacket, though the shirt pictured will do as well. Is it possible to replicate this look in GW2? I looked through some armor galleries and couldn’t find any pants other than “harem girl” pants. Am I missing something? Thanks…

Do phantasm builds work well with rabid gear? I’m still kind of new to the class and still learning, but it seems like it would work well if I used staff and x(scepter?)/pistol since pistol phantasms can cause bleeds(I think there’s a trait?), and the warlocks do more damage when there are conditions present on the target. And you get to remain at range.
I’m about to do Arah so I can finish up my personal story, so I think it would be good place to try it.

Yes, and I learned that.
But, in WoW they let you purchase items for points and you have an hour of in game time to get a refund should you want one. It should be a simple matter to sell the item back and get 42,000 karma points in return.
What was nice about this, is that it allows you to try the item out and return it if it doesn’t work out. Also, what if I purchase say, boots, and a bit later, a pair of boots drop with the same or better stats out in the world? Getting a refund would also be nice in this case.
I actually went ahead and tried the Blackwater build mentioned above and geared it appropriately. It’s a lot of fun and I’m not squishy as hell anymore.
It’s nice to be less dependent on clones and shatter because 1. I found it annoying to have to get in melee range in order to shatter off of myself, and 2. when I tried to shatter, sometimes a few of my clones would refuse to run to my enemy and just shatter in place without hitting anything.
The only thing I’m missing is the swiftness from the focus skill.

That’s a shame because sometimes people make honest mistakes and 42k karma is huge price to pay. I could’ve sworn a clicked on the correct item…
Anyway, have they ever talked about implementing a way for the vendors to refund a purchase?

Hi all,
I made a mistake and purchased the wrong item for 42k karma. I know it was my fault for not paying attention, but is there any way to get those karma points refunded?
I read over the blackwater build and it looks like another one I’m itching to try. But where do you get the rabid gear for it? Doesn’t look like you can craft anything with those stats and the karma gear only has 4/6 that are rabid pieces.

So quick question: SHOULD I be able to solo some of these skill points. Some of them are in contested temples… Or is it just not possible?
So, I just hit 80 on my mesmer and I’m working on zone completion in Orr. I’m running the basic shatter build (20/20/0/0/30), but I’m wondering if there is a better build for doing this? I leveled with variations of this build, so I think I’m okay at playing it, but outside of shattering, the damage feels light. All of my gear is rare quality berserker apart from jewelry and back piece (Which is still the terrible low level one I got from completing a piece of my personal story).
Also, is it just me or is there a large jump in difficulty once you hit Orr? I’m having a lot of trouble completing some of the skill points because I’m constantly overwhelmed with creatures and it seems like I’m forced to fight almost everything that comes my way because I can’t skip or get away from much of stuff there.
I never had trouble clearing a veteran+1 or two regular creatures in order to get at a skill point until I hit the 70-75 Orr zone (and I’m 80!). It just seems like I’m either playing wrong or my build is wrong. Any advice?

Well, I just tested in my GPU usage and it’s 99% at all times in game . I’m not even in Lion’s Arch…this is out in the world in Mount Maelstrom. I don’t think I ever saw it hit 100% when I used to play WoW.
I think this would explain why I didn’t notice much difference when I overclocked my processor from 3.6 ghz to 4.3 ghz.

I wasn’t even aware of SSD until it was mentioned here, so I researched it a bit. As I understand it, they basically help your load times. So when you zone into a place like Lion’s Arch, all the different characters and textures get rendered a lot faster, improving your fps indirectly. It also sounds like it would help your fps dips from spinning around.
Anyway, I’m wondering if it would be possible to keep my current hard drive, add the SSD, and just run the game off the SSD while keeping my other stuff on the slower hard drive?

Thanks for the advice everyone and I’ll check out that thread when I get a chance reborn.
I used to have lag and d/c problems a couple weeks ago but most of that seems to have cleared up. My main concern is fps, so crossover, I’m wondering how you’re getting 120-180 fps in the open world? I bounce from 70-110 fps in the open world and inexplicably dip into the 50s in certain areas, but those are few and far between. I do get 30 in Lion’s Arch like you, and this is worse than usual because of all the people there around for the living story stuff. What are your settings like? I just set mine with auto-detect and almost all the options were set to high, save for a few.

I currently use a Radeon HD 6950 2 GB card. It’s somewhat outdated but has mostly worked well for me over the past year.
I would like to get a newer card, though, and I’m wondering if it’s worth it as I’ve read that GW2 is CPU bound. I’ve already overclocked my processor to 4.5 ghz to get some extra performance and everything runs great in most of the game apart from crowded places like Lion’s Arch (25-45fps) and WvW.
I primarily want to get better graphics performance in WvW. Any advice?

Oh god, yes. It’s especially irritating when signet of inspiration procs without me noticing, focus 4 goes away, and I end up with like 4 seconds of swiftness.
Also, does anyone else have the issue of walking over the field and not getting the boon? A lot of the time I have the backtrack over the field again to get the swiftness boon.
Login trouble after replacing motherboard

My login issues may have nothing to do with my motherboard, don’t know if it’s coincidental or not, but I’ve been having a hell of a time logging in after I installed it.
I never had login issues until now…A fraction of the time, I’m able to login normally. The rest of the time, getting to the login screen after opening the client takes an extremely long time, as does actually logging in, or, I just can’t connect at all. The only error I ever get is error 42.
I’m getting kind of frustrated with the fact that actually getting into the game is hit or miss for me. Thanks.

I rolled a Sylvari because I liked the look and their background/lore was pretty interesting. But now I’m wondering if I made the wrong choice, because my racial abilities don’t seem that useful when compared to the Norn speed boost, the Human chill/poison skill, or even some of the Asura abilities.
How useful are these abilities? Do you ever find a time where it’s worth replacing a profession elite in order to use one of these racial abilities?
I use:
S: strafe left
F: strafe right
D: forward movement
E: weapon attack 1
W: wep 2
R: wep 3
V: wep 4
B: wep 5
Q: heal
2-5: rest of the ability slots
and I turn with the mouse.
Even though it seems logical to me, I’m having a hell of a time adjusting. Is keybinding really THAT much better?
So I’ve been a clicker for the longest time (years) in various MMOs, as well as this one until yesterday. I finally took the plunge and bound my keys, but I still feel like clicking is more efficient for me. How long did it take you to adjust?
