Dark Catalyst.1028

Since this was ignored, I’ll post it again. Because it’s left me a bit confused

1. People who like ascended claim that the power increase is supposedly minor at best.
2. We can’t cap WvW at an exotic gear level because that would invalidate all the “hard work” people put into getting their little pink weapons/armor.
3. Supporters also claim that ascended doesn’t matter in WvW because WvW is balanced around things other than player stats.

So if the power increase is “minor at best” and WvW is balanced around things other than player power, then why are you wasting your time grinding these weapons out? Why are you resistant to capping WvW gear at the exotic level?

Actually I agree…I think WvW should be capped at exotic stats. I don’t think that a competitive format of any kind should be influenced by people who have so much more time than money.

But I don’t think it’s a big deal either. It’s clearly a bigger deal if you roam or solo, though.

Sadly, I would prefer to solo/roam as I found it more fun.

So if the stat/damage increase is as minor as some people claim, and taking away ascended gear in WvW would invalidate all that “hard work” but player attributes don’t really matter in WvW… then why bother with crafting the gear? Why be upset if it’s not functional in WvW?

The skins are ugly as sin.

Cap WvW gear at exotic then since ascended gear offers a supposedly trivial increase to overall power and it “doesn’t really matter”. You can still enjoy everything WvW has to offer with exotic gear.

This would invalidate all the work you’ve put in to attain the gear.

But I see you’re trying to make the “if it doesn’t matter then why have it all?” point that has been trotted out since day one.

WvW isn’t balanced around player statistics. Positioning, timing, build, numbers (as in player-count), and siege matter much more than any given player’s attribute points.

Really? Then have fun running up against an organized group decked out in ascended gear (with ascended armor) and their capability to deal approximately 20% more damage. And then come back and tell me it’s not really balanced around player statistics.

Wasn’t problem when exoctic was the highest. Didn’t see people state

The difference is that obtaining exotic gear is trivial.

Dude grinding skills …… do you really call that a grind . It’s like saying if arenanet decide to give all classes all weapons people would start to grind for those new weapons . It’s not a forced grind but adding a new tier of gear is FORCING people to grind in order to not get destroyed in pvp . You can fight with the basic prophecies skills in gw1 . The only problem is shadowstep which is OP in pvp .

You do not get destroyed in WvWvW for not having ascended. If my level 35 character in Fine quality gear is able to contribute so much to WvWvW, then a level 80 in exotics can do even better. As far as I can tell the time it takes to grind get a reputation skill in Guild Wars 1 is about the same as getting 1 ascended item in Guild Wars 2.

Actually, you will get destroyed in WvW for not having Ascended gear if you go up against someone that does have it. That 6 – 10% stat increase that’s been calculated can be noticed in a PvP situation, and imagine a team of 10 level 80’s, one in full Ascended vs the other in exotics. Ascended will win because of more stats.

A level 35 in fine gear in WvW is contributing to more points when the opposing team has Bloodlust. Nothing more if he’s in the zerg. If he’s scouting, then he’s contributing a bit more, but we’re not talking about that here.

Will win? Nope, skill still plays very much a bigger part. My level 35 have killed several people with ascended and exotic gear, in 1vs1 situations. There might to be very very rare scenarios, probably very unlikely scenarios where you will have a group of ascended geared people going against an equally skilled exotic group, and if that unlikely event happens, it is still not a guarantee that the ascended group will win, so many other things still have to go in their favor to make that happen, so they have a better chance? sure. Do they have a guaranteed win just because they have ascended gear? nope.

The very nature of WvWvW, the very nature that will more then likely never change, make Ascended gear nearly irrelevant to the balance. I certainly haven’t seen the ascended gear make any difference to change the tide of battle.

I’ve given up on trying to see a post as described below:

no defender said something like:
it was awesome to get it, all that chain quests to do in order to get the materials, all those nice instance stories to go through and so much nice new mechanic to try in order to finish the quests…

Farmers/grinders operate on a completely different time scale and have poor understanding of math (“ascended weapon increases overall damage by 5-10% is negligible”, WTF?). You can’t argue with them without trying to diminish efforts on their part time job.

If AP is in any way close to reflecting the activity of the majority of the active player base (I think for most part, it does) then I’m going say this game is dying since ascended gear is so easy to get.
Anyway, it looks like it’s time for me to accept that they’ve finally won and Anet would rather make carrots instead of meaty content and abandon this ship.

Good luck everyone.

Yup. I stopped logging into the game about a week ago.

Turns out MMO players played other MMOs with grind because… they kinda like the grind and vertical progression, and stopped playing Guild Wars 2 because it didn’t have those things.

Who knew?

I went back to WoW because it has less grind involved for what I want to do, and it’s vastly more entertaining.

And crafting can be leveled with time (30 minutes a day to do Ori/Ancient wood runs).

And do the 30 minutes a day to mine Ori/Ancient also give you the 60+ globs of ecto and 60+ T6 mats needed to level up one profession?

If that’s the only thing you do? No of course not.

Are you really expecting to max out on everything in the game, and get the next step up of gear without putting any effort in at all? Without playing the game?

Doing ANYTHING ELSE in the game will get you globs of ecto and T6 mats, are you expecting to sit in LA and just have materials flow into your collection?

Do you and others want to do nothing in the game and be rewarded?

Ahh, the typical brainless strawman “do you really expect to get X for doing nothing” argument. Maybe what they expect iss to be able to do something BESIDES feed the grind to be able to craft one, much less multiples if they have the temerity to roll alts.

Your specious argument is specious.

No, your rebuttal is basically meaningless.

I’m asking, do you expect to get items for literally doing nothing. Because that IS what the opposition is suggesting. There are so many avenues for getting the things that you need to level crafting or get ascended, that honestly the only barrier to entry is effort. If the people who whine about ascended spent as much time in game gathering/crafting as they do whining about it, they’d have full ascended everything at this point.

Also the alt argument is idiotic at best. Ascended gear that you craft is account bound until you equip it, which means you only have to level that craft to 500 once and you are set forever, across your entire account.

Do you think 24/7 brainless champ trains are good for the game?

Skill > Gear.

You can play all part of the game with exotic.
ANet got burned by players acquiring exotics too quickly
“ascended gear is to be a bridge between exotic and Legendary”

This is more about warriors being better than mesmers. Ascended is just obscene icing on the cake.

At some point enough people will have Ascended gear that Anet will have to deal with it by raising boss health or decreasing timers.

Why? They can increase difficulty using mechanics. If Ascended gear is the plateau, wouldn’t it make more sense to not start monster power creep?

That doesn’t get people logging on. The best way to do that would be to implement gear that will give you a 20% advantage over people in exotics and put the materials required to craft it behind a time gate and endless grind. Oh wait…

Do you think that playing against people with such an advantage, in a venue, like say WvW, is going to be fun when you’re only in exotics or worse?

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if people start demanding that others ping their gear in dungeon groups or get kicked.

“Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectible items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions – a lot of that is still up in the air and we’ll finalize a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons – the raids.”

Things change over time, holding someone to something they said a long time ago isn’t really fair, especially in the business/gaming world. Views change with the times and flow of popularity.

But I purchased the game because of those statements.

Well glad you “like” or don’t mind ascended weapons…. you fall with the 21% of the people, or the 15%. As skewed as my poll may be…. I assure you, there’s more people that dislike this ascended business (or replace business with a cussing word).

Utter bull. The whiny forum minority doesn’t like ascended gear, but they are an insane minority. More than likely less than a single % of the entire player-base.

This. The people who disliked ascended gear dislike it because it’s not GW1’s way of doing things.

Meanwhile, gear progression remains one of the largest motivators for MMO players by and large. Legions of players play fantasy games to make their character stronger.

This is why we have 80 levels and multiple rarities of gear. ArenaNet iterated on the gear plateau and created a PvE design that is inclusive to the different gear types, rather than exclusive.

People don’t like Ascended because it felt like moving goal posts after they attained Exotics. ArenaNet realized that Exotics were too easy to get and that players needed a longer journey. Ascended gear is that journey.

Time gated materials, grind endless champ trains for mats and sitting at a crafting station are motivating? This is what people want?

Sure sounds fun to me! LOL

No, stats on the gear that are slightly higher than Exotic stats are the motivator.

Did you see how popular Diablo 2 was back in the day?

10-15% dps increase with ascended weapons+full trinkets. Expect 20%+ with that and a full set of armor. “Slight”, indeed.

Ugh.

It’s the same relative increase between Rare -> Exotic. It’s a linear progression.

And no, I don’t care about Berzerker’s crit damage exponent.

The game is balanced around rares, anything over rare and your advantage is shaving seconds off of a boss you would have killed anyway.

Well, you should care. Because with the way gear is, berserker’s is almost always the best choice. And shaving a few seconds matters in WvW as well.

I think the people who enjoy vertical progression, power creep, and massively outgearing people in WvW (approx 25% more dmg in full ascended, armor included) so they can stomp the new and inexperienced would be happier in a game like World of Warcraft. Go play that and stop ruining GW2. Thanks.

Actually someone did the math, and full ascended EVERYTHING, assuming perfect rotation, it was a 5.7% DPS increase for having ascended gear.

I wouldn’t call that ‘massively outgearing’.

Really? I saw different math. Weapons+trinkets already get you around 15% damage depending on profession and traits.

Go ask the people doing WvW with ascended. The damage increase is VERY noticeable.

He or she isn’t wrong, but is withholding information. Power+crit and raw DPS does not a game make.

https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/50070/Untitled.jpg

Even on berserker gear damage is only increased by 6%, however, the primary stat is increased by about 12% and the secondary stats by about 8%.

I’m going to try and find those threads.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 6% with just an ascended weapon, but I believe that number will be much higher when you add trinkets and armor.

Dark Catalyst.1028

Elementalist was my first 80 last year, and even when they were supposedly OP, I really didn’t enjoy the class. Primarily because it felt like I had to put way more effort in than players of other classes, in order to achieve a roughly even result.

I also didn’t like being limited to one weapon and being pigeon holed into 30 arcana for the attunement cooldown reduction and evasive arcana (it’s been a while, no longer know if it’s still the case).

After my initial disappointment, I took a break from the game, came back and now I main a thief and have a mesmer alt. You’re right on about the mesmer, but slightly off about the thief. There are a lot of inexperienced thieves out there, and the difference between those and experienced ones can be significant.

Anyway, I see guardians EVERYWHERE, moreso than warriors.

Hey guys,

I wanted to compare my feelings about following topic with other players.

A few weeks ago I started a new Character …. at lvl 35 I wanted to go into Dungeons and then everything began…. I got kicked out, insulted etc.. when I dared to join a Group for AC at lvl 35….

It took me about 2 Hours to get together a Group for AC to enter it…!!

In my honest opinion many people have to change their mind in this game….
Of course I didnt join Groups which inteded to Speed-farm it…Just normal runthrough groups…People have to accept that its a Game and that profit is not the most important thing.. It should be fun which is bigger if you share it with others….

To put it in a nutshell: STOP kicking lower levels out of your groups, just because it will take 10 minutes longer…. Lets be a good community and be friendly to everyone!!!

What do you guys think about that?
What is your experience about that topic?

Thanks in advance

Just wait until you start getting kicked for being the wrong class or not having ascended gear. It’ll be even more fun!

I’ve only done one dungeon, EVER, and that was Arah story mode so I could complete my personal story. Mainly, because of how terrible this community can be.

Unfortunately, ANet caved in to the grinders and the people who feel they need to “achieve” something in a virtual environment by sitting at a crafting station and running champ trains. You dont want anything to do with BiS, ignore it you’ll not be missing out on any content and you will not die when facing another player because you neglected your armor. what more can the game do to provide content to both extremes then this?

Ascended weapons+trinkets already net around 15% more damage. With armor, I wouldn’t be surprised if it jumped to 25% more damage.

Sure, you can ignore BiS. But what happens when a good percentage of the population has ascended gear? They’ll have to buff the content to compensate. I’m sure that will be loads of fun to do in greens!

That’s where the guild comes in. We claim an overflow server to group up and make the kill a guarantee. It’s probably the most profitable thing any of us do each day, considering how little time it takes.

Not all of us have access to a competent group of people who are capable of killing this boss. Like I said, I’m on Borlis Pass, and from what I’ve read it’s not a very good server. I guess I don’t get to kill Teq.

Yeah, that’s great. Look at how you churned out all of the achievements! GW2 is made for people like you! And in a couple of weeks you’ll get to churn out another 50! Wow, so fun!

Every time I try to do this on Borlis Pass, I get dumped into overflow with 20 people. Though honestly, I think I prefer that when considering the fact that I’d have to sit in Sparkfly Fen for an hour doing nothing if I really cared all that much.

I represent my Tequatl-killing guild when he’s in the window to spawn, ask for a taxi to the overflow, and kill him in 15 minutes. I get 1.8 gold, two rares, ascended materials, a bunch of other items and a chance for some amazing drops — all in 15 to 20 minutes.

Paid more for gems than a sub fee this year?

I spent about $100 and most of that was spent on gems→gold. Really, it’s gotten to the point where I’d rather just buy gold than run trains.

You’ll be mad to know that I almost have GWAMM and am at 48/50 in HoM in GW1. Does it bother you so much that I enjoy the game so much that I do achievements in my spare time? Life must be hard being so mad at such trivial things. I was just posting this thread because I was excited I got the new achievements to Tequatl – especially before he’s “nerfed” on Tuesday.

Excited about what? That you completed the most boring kitten ever?

I just got my 9/9 achievement today. You know? The one they hand out for enduring the fight 9 times. Once per day, and I couldn’t stomach that much because it took me 12 days. It’s impossible on my server.

I don’t mind people getting account wide bonuses from achievement points or special stat gear, but they need to do something of merit. Not: grind, grind, grind.

You know, just because you don’t like the content, does that mean you necessarily have to rain on someone else’s parade?

I don’t play PvP, but I’d never go into a PvP thread and try to insult someone’s achievement…even if I didn’t think it was much of an achievement I wouldn’t.

This is the kind of player that is toxic to the spirit of the Guild Wars franchise. Perhaps Final Fantasy 14 Online would be a better fit.

I came to this game so I could get away from achievements and grinding.
