So how would you suggest fixing the issue with people missing sales due to not reading mail/launcher/forums then?
Because people have been having issues with this since release and demanded that the information was added in-game.

Now they have added it in-game (it is not like it flashes constantly and disturb regular game-play) and now that is wrong as well?

I have played rather many hours today, and I haven’t really seen that thing at all. I have read the yellow text in the chat-window later on, but haven’t actually seen it on the screen. So I assume it is only there for a few seconds?

Do you not think about the answers before you ask the questions? Or are you only asking questions to seem sagacious and experienced?

Open gem store in game. See information on front page. TA-DA!

Why would I open the gemstore constantly to check for sales? It’s strong logic that if there wasnt a sale an hour ago, it’s very likely there will not be a sale now.

I mean, come on, really? I dont creep Dominos’ website every day to see when they have new deals on pizza, I trust them to have advertisements on TV (which I dont always watch/pay attention to), in the newspaper (cant remember the last time I bought one), and to send me emails with the deals they have. How is it any different to want anet to send me a message via the game chat when they have sales going on? I’m paying more attention to killing kitten or other game activities than I am to updates in the gem store.

People don’t appreciate intrusive advertising, anywhere in their lives. It’s incredibly rude and highly aggressive.

What ANet/NCSoft is up to now is intrusive advertising.

Fact.

Thankfully I don’t log in much any more to witness this garbage.

I wouldn’t be surprised if ANet implemented a VIP program in which one pays $5-$10 a month to not see ads and maybe get a few perks in game.

Because they want you to use the cash shop. I’ve been saying this for months.

Please correct me if I’m wrong here…. But is it not true that if people start buying gems for this purpose, then gems get cheaper for those of us that convert gold to gems?

The gems to gold conversion rate is getting worse and worse, meaning you need to spend more gold per 100 gems. As the rate gets worse, it makes more sense to simply buy the gems with real money and then spend those gems in the gem store. That is, if your time is worth anything.

Besides, even though ANet claims that the conversion rate is set by the market, we don’t know that. There is no transparency.

This game is born to go in the wrong direction.
1.) Endgame based only on appearance is just a dead game since the start.

Quite impressive how a game that was dead from the start is still going strong about two year after release.

Every MMO is dying, according to it’s forums. WoW has been dying for the last 9 years or so.

Just like every unreleased MMO is going to be “OMG TEH BEST”. Until it’s released. And it’s forums start proclaiming that it, too, is dying.

“I’m leaving” threads are cries for attention. Nothing more.

Difference is I have years of memories from WoW, while the GW2 experience has been entirely forgettable.

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP.

Core game-play in Guild Wars 2, aside from WvW which has some redeeming qualities, is absolutely weak.

And it’s a shame, because at the core the game is good. But it’s like ANet has no concept of what to do with it, no comprehensive vision or understanding of what they hope to achieve. The core game-play is simply not evolving. And that’s just not good enough.

When I think back at my time playing WoW or SWTOR, I have a number of great memories to draw from. Memories of great moments, of great successes or embarrassing failures.

But in Guild Wars 2 I have no such thing. Even after 15.000 achievement points, 3 Legendaries and completing pretty much all of the content I find the entire experience to be very forgettable.

As said, WvW is the only exception to this and it’s embarrassing how neglected it has been.

This is it exactly. I have so many fond memories from WoW. Both gameplay wise, and socially through various guilds. But like you said, here, it’s entirely forgettable.

It’s just such a bland, uninspired experience.

Oh good, so you agree with my reasoning that the current system is sufficient to accommodate players of all play styles and that we don’t need gear inspection or dps meters in order to do so!

Everyone pack everything up! The debate has been solved!

Not it’s not. I will never get this playerbase’s resistance to additional features and content. Seemingly all because it will lead to hurt feelings and a loss of anonymity. When people can see someone ruining world boss events by running around, spamming 1 in a snowflake build, it becomes a lot less appealing to do that, eh?

This is exactly why we need instanced content, and not this megaserver-megablob garbage.

To clarify, since it does not show up in the screenshot posted above –
the ad was just llike the previous announcements of – “Scarlet’s Minons are Attacking Frostgorge Sound!” big yellow text, right in the middle of the screen. It also showed up in the chat box.

If you’re a casual gamer who dislike gear treadmills, raids and only play the game lightly, would you go buy a game that embraces the treadmill, is focused on endgame raids, and asks you to pay $15 a month for it?

Depends on the marketing. Currently it is known that you will be able to buy one month game cards in Wildstar for ingame cash. But even with that, its possible that the game is gonna go b2p or f2p in half a year or so. So I think the ingame game card idea was thrown there to maximalize first week profits, in other words, they indeed are going for the casual, and the casual bought Guild Wars 2 too, despite it containing an inbuilt gold seller service in the sheep clothing of the black lion trading post.

P2P/B2P doesn’t define the game as casual or non-casual. TSW was P2P at the start as well, and that game was very casual.

The bottom line is that Carbine made it pretty clear in their marketing that their endgame was about raids, which basically says that if you don’t like them, well, the game isn’t for you. So if I don’t like raids, why would I go there?

Wildstar will be an NCSoft product, which is why I won’t be jumping in right away. I want to see if that game goes the route of GW2 first.

Enjoying your no sub fee model? Lol. The entire game is designed around funneling as many players as possible into the cash shop by severely restricting loot and gold gained through simply playing the game.

$15 a month is worth NEVER seeing a “buy now” button on my UI or messages like in the OP in my chat box. Yeah, yeah, they have to make money so I’d rather just pay them a flat fee and hope they make a fun game with it.

It’s not really a question of ‘enjoying it’ not, P2P for everything simply isn’t viable for me.

I can’t stick to a single MMO. Right now, I’m playing GW2/TSW/(was playing)ESO/Defiance, choosing one on any particular day. So if I paid $15 a moth for all of them, that’s $60 a month on MMOs alone before other games, for something I spend, what 1-2 hours a day on average on?

That just won’t happen for me.

I can understand that since you seem to play several games. But GW2 has become so shameless with its cash shop, that I can barely stomach logging in or supporting them.

The gem store is there to use. I have never felt my game was effected by not using it. I do not agree with loot nerfs which is what the thread was about. The gem store is a whole other animal all together.

I don’t have a problem spending money since I pay subs for games I value. And I don’t have a problem spending money in a fair cash shop. But GW2’s cash shop is anything but fair, and now with the China release, it’s just a cash grab.

Look at Rift’s cash shop for an example of a shop that is very fair.

Dark Catalyst.1028

I don’t think you are wrong.

I have a feeling that what we are seeing is a combination of milking the current playerbase and targeting a different market on another continent that has literally hundreds of millions of people.

The China market is HUGE. Even if this is just a cashgrab strategy, they can make bank and not care if the game itself died a quick death.

Ah yes. I am sure they would be willing to put 300+ people (and friends) out of a job for some swift dollars….

Well, I would assume that most of their best talent has left for a good reason….

And I agree with many of the posters in this thread. This game is quickly starting to look like another cash-grab P2W scenario. I suspect NCSoft wants to shelve GW2 to make way for their upcoming MMOs such as Wild Star (you know, the kind that requires everyone to pay for kitten monthly subscription fees no matter what.)

I give Anet 3-4 months tops for improvements, now that they’re really going to have to work for it if they want to wow their new Chinese players. If we continue to see more cash shop in exchange for more stealth drop nerfs and RNG, then I think it’s time to say goodbye to this game and hello to something else. And that new “something else” won’t be Wild Star if NCSoft’s business model is anything to go by.

I like how people complain about trivial subscriptions fees and then cry when they’re beloved F2P game becomes a cash grab.

Not that ALL F2P is bad. Rift has a very fair cash shop, but that’s the only example I can think of at the moment.

-and CAPES !!!!!

Yeah .. add it all and give us also an engine that looks like it was from the 90s

After that we can start to complain that the game is boring because its just another Clone of that particular game.

And about 50 or so more skills per class, doesn’t matter if 2 or 3 are just the same thing reskinned..

And an additional 2 or 3 skill bars, so they can equip everything, even though they only actually use like like the first 4 skills..

And mana pools… so we can go back to the days with energy management, cooldowns, and strict rotations…

Lol yeah, what are they thinking?! Who wants things like resource management which add depth? I wanna spam 1. I play how I want!

New 1v1 Arena mode implemented(both PVP and PvE gear, different queues or smth).
Why not? Can’t see a single downside to this and I can find multiple flaws in gem-store dueling flags, open world fighting, PvP 1v1 server dueling and OS dueling(what we have right now). Would be pretty fabulous in my opinion.

Dueling is not meant to be “serious”. Its casual, spontaneous and kills the waiting time. This Concept doesn’t work If you have to leave the map.

I still do would like to know the Reason for the objections to Dueling.
If it is implemented as i.e. Blood Red Arachnid suggests, why do you even care?
I would really like to hear an Argument.

They have no argument. It’s “it hurts my feelings”, “I might get annoyed for 30 seconds”, and “WoW clone”. As if taking a feature that has been standard in MMOs and adding it to GW2 suddenly makes it a clone.

What also annoys me is that people seem to support ANet’s grand tradition of gating standard MMO features behind a cash shop.

Dark Catalyst.1028

Why doesn’t this game have a public test realm?

Because it is too hard to control – period. They tried it with GW1 and they didn’t have any more luck than they did w/o it.

With all the software, etc we have on our machines, it is hard to test FOR ALL THE VARIABLES. They do the testing, based on the hardware and game software, but we have music programs, etc which can affect things – heck even MS Office and Open Office can affect things.

People need to understand, no code is perfect. There is no code w/o any bugs or flaws. Maybe your machine has a piece of software that causes that, Knaifhogg, one doesn’t know. This is the problem with software.

It works well enough for WoW. The fact that they don’t let players try out these new “features” before releasing them into the live game is really shocking. Maybe Teq wouldn’t have been such a mess if they, you know, actually tested the encounter.

I personally don’t duel or do PvP much, so I will admit my fear of duelling lies mostly in the fact that allowing duels the open world means giving another foothold to people who like trolling me even when I’m out roaming in the wilderness.

My experience of duels comes from WoW, and having a persistent dueller run in circles around me and trailing me despite me blocking him left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I had to log-off and leave the game for a few minutes so I could break him off my tail before I could log-on again.

While I have nothing against PvP’ers, having this sort of griefing that should typically exist within competitive arenas spilling into PvE areas makes me apprehensive. I like the current state of the game where events are designed to be co-operative and helpful.

Never happened to me in 7 years of playing WoW.

So this game can’t have dueling because your feelings got hurt that one time and you had to log off for two minutes?

Everyone who thinks what we got as dungeons in GW2 is fun and exciting must be new to the world of MMO dungeoneering.

Many games have flaws, but the combination of:

- buff stacking in a limited area
- no aggro mechanic for encounters
- no dedicated healing needed
- self-sufficient healing for classes
- zero mob AI
- bugging out mobs in corners
- abusive skills (fgs)
- easy combat rezzing for everyone (esp. down state)
- no collision
- reflecting full mob damage
- dodging (100% dmg avoidance + immunity)
- etc

just makes the dungeon experience in this game abysmally bad. It is the worst teamplay I have ever seen in a MMO in all my many years. It is why this area of GW2 is so disappointing.

If you like dungeons in GW2, you are not a player looking for challenges. You are looking for repetition, a one trick pony for everything.

They should completely focus on expansions. Dropping the cash-shop as that only hurts the game for many people.

Even if they would put out an expansion now they would likely get way less sales then what if they would have gotten of they did not alienate many of those people with the cash-shop focus.

And if they will continue doing that after an expansion that a possible second expansion would likely sell even worse. It’s really time for them to go back to a real B2P model throwing all the cash-shop stuff back into the game.

An expansion would be the perfect time to make that shift.

exapansions..with no cash up, will not bring in enough money to keep a game like this running..it’s cash shop or sub.
and I’ll take cash shop over sub any day.

OP, I don’t want an expansion, I like the short bursts of content, if I get bored, I go play a different game.
expansion just means content that players will get through in a month or too and then thy’ll start complaining and asking for more content. always more.

this at least keeps it fresh, keeps people logging in, …its a very different way of updating, and I for one prefer it.

This is an ultra casual game focused on looks and armor skins, so of course the PvE is going to be shallow and unrewarding. Some people like the game just the way it is, OP. No need to make the game “harder” because it’s not the right environment for it.

When I want my PvE fix, I go to games which do it better.

As a ‘casual’ PvEer, I find this post extremely offensive and narrow-minded. The game’s content should be fun on its own merits, and dungeons are designed to be non-casual anyway.

And… other casual players, from what I’ve seen, are least likely to be bothered by the OP’s suggested changes – they don’t stack, and tend to react to whatever the heck the enemies are doing on their own. Enemy runs away? Chase it down/stun it/Torment it, then kill it. Enemy isn’t taking damage from a direction, roll around until you can hit it, or flank it. And, they probably don’t consider that enemy attacks are single-target, given that their own usually aren’t (Unless they’re ranged).

And, initially, I read the minimum distance thing not as a “Run away” mechanic, but a “Don’t approach.” A “Run away” mechanic would be too simple to lock down unless it has a way to stun/immob, then jump back to range. Just hit it with Torment or bleeds, then run around chasing it saying “I’m not touching you!” while conditions and ranged allies take it out.

And for those who play simply to grind gold, instead of actually hunt for engaging and fun content – a better strategy is to go out, get a job that pays real money, and spend that money on gems, then buy gold with that. It’s a FAR more efficient means of getting gold/hour.

Our opinions differ and that’s fine. There’s nothing “offensive” about disagreeing with someone.

End game is doing your daily chores all week for an allowance, which you then spend at the shop over the weekend. Rinse , repeat. Honestly, playing the TP as an economic simulator had more depth.

Btw.: it took WoW over 2 years for their first expansion (EQ2 was at the third expansion already at that time) and it was already over 4 years old at Wotlk.

Also in EQ2 each expansion at least contained every older expansion and the initial game, while in WoW that never has happend whenever i was looking for that, so you really need to pay for every single expansion if you actually want to play the whole game.

Pay for the game rather than expecting to get something for nothing? You don’t say!? What’s wrong with paying for a service you value?

I hope ANet is keeping a close eye on the threads in this forum where people are bragging about paying $0. They’ll monetize you yet!
