20 new “features” in the gem shop. It wouldn’t be patch day without including a way to separate your from your money. It’s too bad that the most efficient way of getting what I want is to buy it from the TP instead of actually, you know, playing the game. Mats, skins, and minis included.
It’s funny because I have to grind less in WoW then I do here and after 6 years with that game I still have more to do than I ever did here.
If you ask people why you should play GW2, most will say that “it’s pretty” or “no sub”. Not very compelling.
Oh you “have to” grind here? How so?
If you don’t want to be at a personal disadvantage in WvW then yeah, you have to grind. But I know that the GW2 playerbase have convinced themselves that statistical advantages “don’t matter”.
I Played WoW for years as well. Played a class to level 80, forget the name of the class. Had that Butt slapping succubus pet… quick someone help me.
Anyway. I digress. I got bored, I Played BC… and i just found it to be a chore to play. The sad fact is, the main reason I played was… I had friends i liked hanging out with that also played WoW, and refused to play anything else.
When Gw2 came out, I knew i would like it. I had been anticipating it. I told My friends, and they were ’ well, have fun, we’ll see you when you come back…"
There were many things about WoW that I grew to dislike. There were many reasons I was considering just uninstalling it off My computer.
I think the thing that finally became the straw that broke the camel’s back for me was the Player base arrogance that came about because of the number of players.." See ya when ( not if… never if) you come back "…. I said my goodbyes, and have never been back since.
The Mysoginy is another big issue for me…" oh you’re a woman… kitten…. go make me a sammitch, and then bl** me."
I think that to pay a Monthly to be treated thusly was just adding insult to injury.
What keeps me Playing gw2 is, the more mature player base, the less rampant Misoginy and homophobia, and the more helpful… less arrogant playerbase.
A warlock. And if you were 80, that would place you at WoTLK which came out over 4 years ago. You’d find that a lot had changed and in some ways holds closer to the manifesto than this game does.
As for the community, you’ll find that in every game. Try interrupting someone’s champ train or dungeon and you’ll see what I mean.

If you get disappointing loot, I’d like them to say: “Be sure to visit the cash shop!”
One per day since when? I quit in October.

Still better than my experience. I put around 800 hours into this awful game and could count the number of rares I got on one hand. Oh and I got zero exotics, of course zero ascended, and no precursors. No minis either. This is the most unrewarding garbage I’ve ever played.
What did you do.. only fight random spawns?
One world boss kill is going to get you a rare every time… its the base reward. With 800 hours of play you should of had plenty of rares… now exotics I can see maybe only have a couple and if your MF is low doesn’t help. Rares are not hard to come by at all.
Before I stopped, I was doing Orr temple events, jumping puzzles, and Queensdale champs. Never bothered with Teq or world bosses because the events either fail most of the time or I get dumped in overflow.
the ore temple events have the same rewards as world boss’s so you should of had plenty of rares
Not in my case. And I didn’t even play that much for diminishing returns to take effect.
They can’t even create normal looking pants for female light armor users so don’t hold your breath.

So as im reinstalling the game after almost 2 years nothing changed? Warrior is still the only class that isn’t weak in PVE?
Oh well, guess ill play Mesmer and Necro for fun only.
Honestly, don’t bother. There is nothing new or compelling in GW2 other than the new AP and achievement grind you get once in a while with the Living Story.
If they did that, people would start leaving the game because there would be “nothing to do” after you got your set. And let’s face it, it’s not like the Living Story is some compelling reason to stick around.

that’s what happens when an entire reward system is designed around getting players to use the trading post as a gold sink and to encourage gem purchases and conversions.
I know. It’s one of the reasons I left this game because I find this gouging of the playerbase to be reprehensible.

Cash shop awaits. What’s the conversion rate now? 9g per 100.
Drop those benjamins son and make your life a hundred times easier.
I don’t see why people expect so much from Baby’s First MMO. It’s meant to be a simple, casual-friendly game that you get to play for free. All the extra stuff you’re asking for may have been possible to finance with a cash shop years ago but perhaps it’s no longer true in 2014.
They can’t win. Every time they put something in the gem shop, people cry, but how else are they supposed to pay for development?
They could, I don’t know, charge a box price for any expansions. But maybe I’m asking too much, not like Anet has ever done that before or anything.
This is not a sequel to GW1. It’s a game in its own right and the devs have decided to go with Living Story, and frankly most people shouldn’t be complaining because they don’t buy much, if anything, from the cash shop.
And I decided that I won’t do microtransactions in paid games because the prospect of all gaming becoming smartphone rubbish is not something I’m interested in, not to mention the stupid $/€ conversion (or more precisely, the lack of).
I’d be happy to preorder all their full price expansions though.
I have a feeling you’ll be waiting a long time for those expansions.

This is what happens when roles don’t matter.
Just make people actually earn the tags rather than just buying them and fine with whatever.
I herd u liek overflowz so I put an overflow in ur overflow.
Choice is great and all.
Too bad that those of who play a female mesmer, necromancer, or elementalist don’t have much of one when it comes to armor. It’s all dresses, frills, garters, and harem pants. We don’t even have the option of simple pants or something like a basic jacket. You’re either half naked or dressed like a 14 year old.
I went back to WoW. Much less grind there and their cash shop is entirely optional. Unlike here.
Yeah one of those non-players who hang around the forums constantly reinforcing their decision to not play… Cash shop is optional btw not that I think it particularly matters to you, afterall you’re just here to troll.
I paid full price for this game and got ripped off. I will continue to post as I wish because I paid for the privilege.
It’s just as well. Let people think that statistical advantages are meaningless because it demonstrates their lack if understanding when it comes to math and the desire for a level playing field.
I went back to WoW. Much less grind there and their cash shop is entirely optional. Unlike here.
Surprising, the resistance to making something so meaningless (according to the forums), a little more difficult to get.
You still have exotics, which are easily obtainable and allow you to access and complete every area of the game. Ascended gear, obviously, won’t be in sPvP, but it will be in WvW. But don’t worry, that’s okay too. I’ve had people swear up and down to me on this form that they’ve defeated people in ascended gear while in greens.
Gee, I really hope people aren’t grinding out something so “meaningless” just because they have nothing to do. That would just be sad, because it’s not like the skins are anything special.
“Ascended gear is there because something was needed to entice people to keep playing the game.”
“Ascended gear isn’t enticing because it’s such a minor stat boost.”
The cognitive dissonance in this community is strong.
Exactly.
Wouldn’t it feel, and actually be, infinitely more rewarding if ascended gear were only obtainable through challenging, but instanced content? That way you actually earn your gear rather than buying all the mats off the TP and waiting 30 days. Keep the crafting, but keep the stats midway between exotic and current ascended. Or, if that spread is too small, bump up the stats on the “new” ascended slightly.
Ascended gear doesn’t matter and the stat increases are meaningless, right? Or so I hear from the forums anyway. Well, if that is so, then this change isn’t going to affect you. Let the “elitists” down content so they can get their BiS, and the rest can “play how they want” in blues, or whatever. Boom, everyone’s happy.
The bad part about ascended is getting shoehorned into crafting, instead of giving us easier ways to acquire them.
Then there would be “nothing to do”. I would prefer it if they gated ascended gear behind challenging, but instanced, content. That way you would earn it by doing challenging, heroic content instead of sitting at a crafting station and stretching the limits of your patience. Not to mention your wallet as well.
Surely this wouldn’t be a problem for the people who run around in blue gear and “play how they want”. Because ascended doesn’t matter, right?
Lol so your saying if they guaranteed ascended through content then you’d all of a sudden stop caring about the player in blue gear? Exotic dungeon gear that has been easily obtained has been available since day 1 of the game. If he is still in blues chances are putting it behind content still won’t make him change out of his blue gear.
Let’s stop beating around the bush: fact is you want the instant gratification of bis gear with the least amount of effort and cost all the while complaining how mats and loot holds no value and is in overwhelming supply.
With all this posting you do in the forums, you should put it towards learning to read what people say.
I always thought I write fairly clearly, but perhaps not? But then again, you have people claiming that statistical advantages are meaningless, so at times I just don’t know if it’s willful misrepresentation or just zealotry on the part of GW2 fans.
(Warning: Incoming Opinion)
Nope.
Right now, you’ll be coming in at the end of the story, the parts you’ve missed are pretty much gone forever.
However…
In March they’re supposed to release details of upcoming changes to the game. One would hope this also includes the stuff that was supposed to be in the game LAST year, but nobody’s promising anything. Or talking about those things. Or even making eye contact with them. So… yeah.
Basically, in a month or so, we find out if the Devs are going to try to make this game what it could be, or continue the slide into being WoW Clone #27.
Instead of jumping in during the last two chapters of the current story, I’d suggest that you wait for their statements in March to see what’s really coming, and decide then. You can jump in now if you want, but people are going to be chasing after the Living Story stuff, and you may feel a bit left out. If that won’t bother you, then go for it.
WoW clone, eh? WoW holds closer to the GW2 manifesto than GW2 itself at the moment.
You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.
This argument has been used countless times. It has been countered countless times too… so stop using it. It doesn’t change the nature of ascended armour.
Yes. Your counter is that the minor stat gain from ascended is a huge game changer. The argument is that, no, it really isn’t.
You say yes, they say no, back and forth and back and forth.
Blah blah blah, you’re not going to change someones ideology. Further, you can’t force them to quit arguing because you don’t like their perspective.
He can use the same tired argument as often as you use your same tired argument. Learn something.
Then gate it behind challenging, instanced content. You guys don’t need ascended anyway, since the stat gains are meaningless, right?

If by “meaningless” you mean contributing to a higher damage, then sure.
Seems pretty clear to me.
I really don’t get why these people are trying to argue that a clear statistical advantage is meaningless.

People like you are the reason wurm can’t be beaten.
Yes the stats do matter. They offer a 5-15% damage increase. That is a HUGE amount of damage when everything in this game is a dps race.
If you don’t think that much damage matters then please don’t show up to the wurm event or any timed event that is introduced from this point forward.
People like you is what makes me happy that ArenaNet hasn’t implemented gear inspection, and also has kept ‘raids’ open world!
why? if raids were instanced you and all your friends in blues could get together and do the content? oh wait… no you couldn’t because you rely on the people in ascended to carry you through the current open world content already…
Then they couldn’t “play how they want”. LOL

^—— lol best post in the thread. Max damage or fail and gtfo. Push this message harder because although my bolts of silk are selling for 7s each which is fantastic, I think we can push it to 8.
You’ll still have people claiming that statistical advantages don’t matter in this game because they can access all the content in blues. I guess by access, they mean getting carried by people who realize statistical advantages matter. Especially in content that requires a DPS race.
Special snowflake syndrome is rife. “Play how you want” is not conducive to content which requires teamwork to complete.
The problem with GW2 is this:
It is now one of the most grindy popular games on the market atm.
You really think that GW2 is more grindy than WoW, Aion, TERA, EVE and Blade & Soul, to name a few?
In WoW, I can raid for 4-5 hrs per week and get a piece of gear or two. What will 4-5hrs per week get me here? A quarter of the mats required for one piece of armor?
Just buy everything. No grind required!
Nice! Please show me where to buy my Ascended armor I can’t find any on TP or gem store!!!
Clearly meant buy the mats for it so you can retain your sanity during the time gated little grind.
ANET’s prerelease hype, “we’re going to get away from grind” (GW/grind). Now we have ascended armor / FOTM GRIND. What a prerelease con. A bit hypocritical It would seem.
Yeah, they really did go for the “no gear treadmill / no grind” hype. I can understand why they skewed away from it, and they’ve only added one gear step, but that gear step is a hideous, obvious grind intended more for controlling the economy instead of making a player feel accomplished or giving a variety of things to do.
Yup, one tier which entails one tediously horrifying grind. Much prefer the WoW model where I spend 5-10 hrs a week doing some REAL content like raids and get geared in a month or two.
Just buy everything. No grind required!
The end game is the cash shop, because almost all in game activities are very unrewarding.
No. He’s right. There is no grind if you simply purchase everything by way of the gem shop and trading post. Grinding is not worth the effort because it’s so unrewarding.
Just add a very small chance of receiving 1000 gold from a Black Lion chest, which you can of course, purchase from the gem shop. Boom done.
Defeating the encounter>your desire to be a special snowflake
It’s called teamwork. If you can’t or won’t accept that, feel free to go back to the queensdale train. Not wasting an hour just to wipe because a few people won’t fall in line.
Wow….“because a few people won’t fall in line”
Which line are you talking about ’cuz I am going to stay away from that one, your bias towards what you “think” is correct is obvious and playing along side of you will likely earn me more “castigation” than I currently desire. Go run a dungeon instead of trying to change a very public event to your individual whim.
This is pretty simple. If I’m going to spend an hour waiting for an event (to avoid) overflows), I want to WIN. I figure everyone else wants to win as well, otherwise they wouldn’t be there. Experiment with your special and unique builds on your own time, ok? Not at a world event where the snowflakes inevitably end up wasting everyone’s time.

So I’ve done nothing but WvW for so long that I’ve neglected almost every other aspect of the game so i’m not up to speed in terms of knowledge. I’m trying to make gold and I dont’ know what items are in high demand, what zones I should be farming, what materials I need to gather to basically help me generate some income because I’ve never been over 50gold and that’s a problem. I can’t enjoy this game being broke all the time. ty
Well, friend. The simplest way to get gold is to buy it in the gem shop. Do you want to make a few gold per hour in a champ train or do you simply want to drop some cash and make it much, much easier on yourself?
You dont’ need to grind anything. Just play the game normally. Most people can make 10 gold easily by just playing the game.
In 2 month you can have your precursor by just playing the game.
The way I like to play is to hunt for the item. Thats how I play a game. Not but just doing some stuff to get gold (also knows as grinding) to then buy the item I want. Thats not fun. Or at least not for the people who have a similar game-play style as me and complain about the grind..
Precursors you can’t hunt for because they are intended to be able to be gained by any type of player (expect a PVP player). Play normally and you will get your precursor eventually.
Tell that to people who’ve played for 2,000-3,000 hours and still don’t have one. It’s ridiculous.
Haha Rita Repulsa is spot on!
Don’t see why anyone would play ranger. The damage is abysmal and the pet AI is broken and this has been admitted by ANet on the forums as well as the fact that they have no plans to fix it.
dual profession is probably not a good idea.
Just remember this game was meant to be more casual.
I’ve avoided WoW, because for me. It’s too difficult to keep up/catch up. With the constant “upgrading”. Its very frustrating.I think GW2 tried to keep things interesting with the living story, but then for many people thats too slow to change to the next chapter or too boring. But then that depends on what you like. Everyone isn’t going to want to play the same MMO. And an MMO shouldn’t try to cater to everyone, pick a player base and make that base love what you do.
also I seem remember this being suggested before?..
(edit: yeah, thats why it’s a gw1 style)
Actually, WoW has made it easier than ever to catch up. If you’re casual and hit max level you can get into the latest content in a few days. I raid at normal difficulty and it only takes me a couple months to gear up and then I have 4-6 months to do whatever I wish. And I only put 4-5 hrs a week into raiding. How long would it take me to get full ascended in this game?
Warlords of Draenor. I will also give Wildstar a try.
WoW, even with its flaws has given me years of good times. And no cash shop to gouge me!
