Legendary Armor????

Did I miss something I thought legendaries were only weapons, and ascended was the cap for armor????

They have mentioned Legendary armour in the past, but it isn’t currently in the game.

However, as long as they maintain the same functionality as Legendary weapons (that is, you can swap to any stat combination outside of combat), you’d be able to swap the stats, which would make Catalyst’s comment a non-issue, really.

It would be nice, but given ANet’s history, I think they would prefer people to grind out several sets rather than giving that functionality to a single set. If they make obtaining legendary armor as grindy, tedious, and annoying as obtaining a legendary weapon, then I could see them allowing you to swap stats. If that ends up being the case, have fun with it for the next year unless you drop hundreds of dollars in the cash shop.

Just wait until you grind out your entire set of legendary armor and they play musical chairs with stats again. That’ll be fun.

I find that the combat here is really, really, shallow. There’s no point in releasing more dungeons, because given the current combat mechanics, it’ll just be the same old thing with different scenery slapped onto it.

There’s no strategy or tactics here, other than stack in a corner, go zerker, and press dodge once in a while. The mechanics don’t allow for that, so they resort to one shot mechanics, defiant, etc. And you want to know why the current meta is zerker or die? Because it’s the most efficient. If I’m doing one of a handful of dungeons for the 50th time, I want to be in and out as fast as possible. Special snowflake builds just hold that entire process up.

All GW2 offers is ultra casual brain dead PvE “gameplay” experience, shopping at the gem shop and cosplaying with your friends in hub cities.

Why is it brain dead though? Your not realty explaining it at all your just trying to relate skins to skills of play and game play and they have nothing to do with each other.

I’m assuming they are going to bake in stat increases each time you level. If not then this change is stupid.

How interesting or meaningful is it to spend a point and get +10 of a stat? Let people choose a trait line at lvl 10 and just bake those stats in.

I hate the way this game nickel and dimes me for stuff that should’ve been in the game from the beginning. It’s why I can’t do this F2P cash shop BS. Not to mention, the game itself is do unrewarding that it’s simply easier to buy gold from the shop. Terrible, greedy design.

The drop rate is so pathetic that it’s not worth the bother.

Have you run level 40+ FotM recently? Just looking in my guild, I’d say its a 20% droprate for an ascended chest.

^never heard of the addon oQueue. Addons are part of the game. They always have been. Theres literally millions of people who do not have a problem with this. If you do, you’re just short changing yourself and not using tools available to you. You know what addons show? It shows a thriving community of people involved with the game. Should I now use any mods for Skyrim because they aren’t coming directly from the official devs? Moddable games are IN. Sorry if that’s news to you. Minecraft, Skyrim, CounterStrike, etc all have proven time and time again that giving the toolset to your community builds that community. If you don’t like people judging you by dps meters, then don’t raid with kittenheads.

Sorry brah, WoW isn’t like it was back in the day. It’s quite easy to jump in and go do something. I know, I know..most of you don’t want to see all that…afterall, it completely destroys all your arguments. So, just for the sake of it we’ll continue to act like it’s the same version of WoW from almost a decade ago.

On topic: Wildstar is dope. It’s got the action combat, the sick looking gear, and the trinity (thank god for teamwork, I’m so glad no other developer is copying this horrible design aspect from ArenaNet, opinions will vary but personally I feel other games not picking that philosophy up speaks wonders).

The art style may be a little over the top for some. I don’t mind it. The PvP is awesome and ORGANIZED. It has Housing…completely customizeable housing. When I can build a house, go to a dungeon..slay a boss..and take his head and hang it up on a wall in my house…that’s dope.

Anyway, obviously it’s not for everyone. Personally I can’t even believe people still play this game I find it so boring, but to each their own. I hope one day they overhaul some things to keep it interesting. See GW2 is the type of game where I don’t even understand why they even have stats on gear. It’d probably work better if all the gear in the game was solely aesthetic and the real diversity came from traits and skillsets, but hey that’s just me. I did like the jumping puzzles and will continue to come back to do that tho. That’s one area I can give GW2 an A+.

Here here. A lot of people are blinded by their devotion to this game which doesn’t really help to make it better. Plus, it’s fashionable to bash WoW and any game which may be similar or has a sub…it really kills discussion and results in the dishonesty seen in this thread. Yes, yes, people who pay a sub are brainwashed or deluded, LOL. It can’t be that they value a game and are willing to pay a trivial monthly fee to support it rather to demand stuff for free like they do here.

Face it. The GW2 model doesn’t work. It results in shallow, zergy combat with very little build diversity. Trains in both PvE and WvW with cosplay in the LA chat room.

Pretty much. You forgot to mention the cash shop though, where you can buy skins that should’ve been obtainable in game, and cosplay in the LA chat room with your friends.

WoW is a hard-core grindy game with forceable endgame, no combat, no exploration and mounts etc. to purchase even-though it is pay to play.

Really? Then why do I have 70 mounts I never spent money on and the world exploration achievement?

In terms of grinding? I’ve felt GW2 have been more of a grind to me than WoW was when I played it.

I disagree 100%, WoW was nothing but grinding, whether it was PVE or PVP.

I think your tolerance of grinding, as with most of us, has diminished with age. GW2 is definitely not more of a grind than WoW though.

You’re wrong and woefully behind. Try to keep up please since it’s not 2008.

WoW is a grind of 10 years where missing a part of it would make the next content un-available for you. The progression feeling is illusionary, it is about starting the new chapter in the grind-fest every month.

GW2 is grindy too, but at least I can enjoy it the way I want.

If you are a fan of Everyquest, you shouldn’t be here though, I don’t see the point in you commenting.

My fresh 90 was raiding current content within a few days of reaching 90. I didn’t grind or miss anything.

Raiding for a few hours a week is fun and not a grind at all. Beats zergy LS garbage.

GW2 is a superior game to almost every MMO in the western industry atm and Wildstar/ESO are both average ones. People would like WS/ESO for a fresh experience however neither bring anything major to the industry.

Is this sarcasm?

No, these are facts

If by superior, you mean a grindy game with shallow combat and content that is so unrewarding that it’s simply easier to play the TP, then you’re right.

No I mean the game that you don’t now how to play ending up grinding because you are used to the hardcore content games with no combat offered, calling hard-core gear raiding for for content with people getting kicked out from parties and guilds because they aren’t special enough.

The games I play have combat that extend beyond roleplaying a zergling and spamming one or exploiting AI by stacking in a corner.

Standing there calculating skill timers isn’t called combat though.

Except you also have to execute your dps in a raiding environment where you can’t zerg or stack.

I agree. That is why I go after Fractal Weapons. Can’t buy em. Can’t get tokens for em. Have to do Fractals. Can’t sell em either. It’s a great system and one this game needs more of. Earnable rewards are a lost art in this age of F2P.

Well, when most of the game is so unrewarding and grindy, can you really blame people who would rather just buy whatever they can with real money so they could get to the part of the game they do enjoy? Though, personally, I see very little to enjoy unless you like to use Lion’s Arch as a cosplay chat room.

Hey, at least you’re earning your legendary when participating in the tourney. Unlike the other way of acquiring them where you do nothing but test your “legendary” patience by participating in endless grind and trying your luck in the Mystic Toilet.

I’ve often wondered if Arenanet even understood the meaning of the word Legendary.

Apparently not. When I first heard of legendary weapons I wondered what interesting, yet challenging tasks I’d have to complete in order to earn one. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered it was nothing but an exercise in tedium. Not even going to bother with one.

I wonder what horrors await once they release legendary armor and trinkets?

Threads like this should be locked and deleated.

Ofcourse that is why this game has so many leavers in your opinion!
But there is no truth to it what so ever, you have no fact and no real numbers. Someone said over 70% has left most servers accept one server!? How the kitten-in-a-deep-place could he/she even know that!? Not even the devs could know that. I mean when I started playing this game (headstart player) I joined a guild made by my friends and their friends. A few months later the guild was dead, all my friends had gone back to WoW, Lotro, SwtoR and other games… I am still in this guild but I don’t represent it, but I check it now and then and when I look more and more old players are comming back. This game is free, you don’t pay sub so there is no point in “leaving” the game and when all other games are booring you come back and play GW2 since it is all FREE! So once again how can someone say that “this many has left the game” when the only ones who have left this game is those who have terminated their accouts and those who are perma-banned.

I don’t know what’s so special with last week, but I got alot of questions about GW2 and now two are playing the game as I write this and one is just waiting for his salary and then he will play. They have also said that their friends has been looking at it and as they now have friends playing the game they will buy it. Well this is just my life but this happens all around the world and once you bought this game you can more or less come back whenever you wan’t.

hmm… Did I make any sence…
After reading and seeing what is comming in april I would be supriced if no one will be logging in and having a look. If the update is good they may stay for a while and give A-net a few $

Seems like all this game has going for it is that it’s “free” and has nice graphics. So compelling!

I don’t know your definition of “hardcore”, but it definitely does not match mine. For PvE I imagine WoW-like endgame/raids (minus the gear grind), or generally what you see in most high-profile MMOs. For PvP I imagine something akin to LoL, DOTA or Battlefield.

Those examples are not exactly the definitions of niche. They are wildly more successful than GW2.

Yes, that is my definition of hard-core as well. If you remember WoW raiding, it requires hours of your time. HOURS AND HOURS And it’s not like you could simply just decide “hey I hit level cap today, I’m gonna PUG a raid!” and get anywhere. No, you needed to have the BiS gear in order to be viable, meaning you needed to pour yet more hours into maintaining your gear every single time yet another tier of gear came out. That is what I mean by hard-core; and it is directly related to time spent playing. If you only spent 1-2hrs playing, you would a) never be able to raid because you would never have time for it and b) you would universally be considered casual.

You can’t play the game casually (1-2hrs/day) yet be considered a hard-core player.

I was raiding the current raid within 48 hours of hitting 90 on a fresh character and it only takes a few hours a week to complete it. Looks like you’re WRONG again and you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about.

What’s the Queendale theme, then, other than “champ train?”

Queensdale is the ‘breadbasket’ of Kryta, in that they supply most of the food for the nation (evident through a number of Hearts and events being based around helping and protecting farmlands).

It’s where the Humans have decided to fort up and make a stand against any enemies, shown by it being the location of Divinity’s Reach.

Godslost Swamp, in particular, has seen a breakthrough from creatures of the Underworld, possibly caused by the Temple of Ages being destroyed when Orr rose.

I could go on, if you like?

That’s interesting. Too bad it’s so poorly told through just playing the game. You know what I remember from questing through there? “Help me tend my farm” “check these traps” and “get our supplies from a cave”. What you said is still minimal for a what? 1-17 zone?

My first sentence is pretty much word for word what the first scout said after you finish the Earth Elemental encounter, which is also available for the other Races.

If you talk to the Scouts, they give you a general back story, where a lot of the NPC’s will tell you why you’re helping them.

As for Godslost, the Heart NPC says: Heroes once visited the temple to travel to Underworld, which weakened the barrier. Now portals between the two worlds can form. The portals, and the creatures from them, must be fought physically.

While the Scout says: These monks and their theological teachings have been … insightful, but the real secrets are yet to be revealed in the Godslost Swamp. Where else but the ruined Temple of the Ages would we learn what truly became of the Six Gods? We should have the answer already; unfortunately, progress has been slowed by those rifts to the Underworld.

Finally, even the Skill Point in Godslost gives a little insight: A mystical structure predating the oldest memories of Tyria, the Temple of the Ages’ ruins course with an ancient and unyielding power. It’s said time itself originated from this sacred place.

All this is known in-game if you talk to the NPC’s (after all, aren’t Hearts just poorly disguised quests?), and not simply do the Hearts without speaking to them. It’s there for people who want the story

As for it being minimal? Yes, it is. It was more of an example how wrong you are that there’s no lore or story to the zones and such, and less of a total breakdown on the entire story of Queensdale.

Anything regarding the intro earth elemental stuff is irrelevant as most people think that that part of the zone is okay. After that, however, quality plummets. I’ve talked to plenty of npcs as well, but I stopped. Why? Because most of them have nothing important to say.

Your examples are just descriptors and little blurbs. That’s not story.

Except zones, Hearts and DE’s do have stories and reasons behind them. You just choose not to acknowledge it.

While I’ll agree that some of the stories for these events and such aren’t very good, the same could be said for WoW quests as well.

After the game launched and people have reach 80, did all the map, etc… Question asked “WHERE IS THE ENDGAME?!”, the reply from ANet was grind, grind, grind and moar grind. If this continues we will soon be like WoW major pain in the kitten grind required to reach what we want.

PvE Needs some oxygen, so we can play and have fun normally at PvE and achieve the things normally without be days, weeks, months, grinding for it.

WoW has much less grind than this game.

i dont think we play the same wow then, serious, wow is grind quest for leveling, and in the end game is just, instance behind instance.

leveling in wow = talk to npc 1, 2 , 3 ,4 ,5 , n > do quests, then back to that npcs to get your xp and rewards, after that, is dungeon after dungeon, and if you’re a DPS, than sit tight for a 30 min long wait until you get a group.

leveling in GW2 = just have fun, do what you want, everything gives you XP, explore the maps, craft, earn achievments, looks for vistas, points of interests, do skill challanges, personal story, ANYTHING gives you XP, and you do not feel that urge to get to the level cap.

oh yeah, an in wow, your gear is EVERYTHING, you must renew your gear for ever, try entering a group with a “gearscore” medium to low, you just cant, you have to farm the same dungeons over and over until you have good gear to go to another level and so on.

in GW2 your gear is just a detail, what metter most is how do you play

Lots of dishonesty here. I just don’t think it’s possible to have a discussion with liars or with people who claim that things which increase the power of your character are irrelevant.

I mean are you wasting your Netflix sub or your internet sub if you’re not using them 24/7? Of course not. You’re paying for 24/7 access to a service you value.

It’s funny, really. People pay a box fee and expect to be entertained for years. If you got a hundred hours out of this game you got more out of this than the vast majority of AAA titles out there. People don’t want to pay money yet the have the nerve to complain about subpar patches, insipid story, and gating of horizontal progression behind the cash shop. Well, what do you expect?

Dark Catalyst.1028

You have an opinion, but its wrong. Allow us to diversify ourselves within the trinity, rather than making everyone a tank/dps/healer.

Actually, all opinions are just that, opinions. They can neither be wrong nor right, because they’re subjective.

However, there are also facts, and the ones you offer, quoted below, are wrong.

“No, there is freedom in the trinity. You can specialize your dps as in condi/crit whatever you like.”

DPS is DPS, tank is tank, heal is heal — that’s the lack of freedom.

“If anything theres less freedom with out it, as you have to take into account that you’re going to get hit, so you need toughness, that takes out of your damage”

You are obviously out of touch with the zerk-or-leave dungeon meta.

“…you have to heal yourself and others, so that takes out of other things you might want to build yourself into.”

Speccing into healing power is a waste, so no, you can heal others without taking away from anything except choosing which heal skill you use.

So you’d rather play as anonymous DPS #2354 than as a role where you press something other than 1?

Holy Trinity Is Called "Holy" For A Reason

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dark Catalyst.1028

The only reason I have to agree with the OP is because of the current meta of dungeons. If anything ticks me off more than killing players after a round is over (in spvp) it has to be the “LOL BADDIE NO ZERK KICKPLZ KTHXBAI” attitude that has been adopted by so many dungeon runners.

It’s sad that it is legit to kick anyone wanting to run high toughness or high healing power. Hell the combo fields to stack might are overlapped by healing instead of both going off at once.

Honestly i’m going to have to stick with spvp as unbalanced as the condi meta is. It’s the only thing that is even remotely fun.

Running high toughness or high healing holds the entire group back. The way the game is now, those stats are simply not needed if you can kill fast enough. And guess what? They WON’T be able to to kill fast enough if two, or even one, person decides to be a special snowflake.

People running some dungeon for the 100th time want to get in and get out as quickly as possible.

When there are no roles other than being an anonymous DPS, the result is zerg, zerg, zerg or exploit so they can keep zerging, zerging, zerging.

What do want in the FEATURE Only Update?

Hopefully the “feature update” where include a feature where I can skip the horrendous ascended grind by making all the items tradeable on the AH. At this point, it’s simply more rewarding to buy your way to this gear because playing most of the game is just so unrewarding.

What’s happening on the 18th? Probably an “update” that will be 75% gem store additions.

I just want instanced content period, and maybe an “inspect” command. I just want to keep the bads and the special snowflakes out because they tend to muck up stuff like world events while refusing to listen because they’re “playing how they want”.

Yeah .. give us gearcheck. Everything that has not zerker stats gives zero or even negative points.

Power, precision, feriocity: +1
Thoughness, vitality : zero ..
healing power, condition damage -1 point for that crap.

Then there should also be points for the “correct” runes and sigills. I use for example Traveller Runes … what the heck … -500 for that .. thats soo much damage loss, could cost 1/4 seconds in a run.

And also for the “correct” build. The best players tell ANet what the best build is, and then only that gives point, and maybe ANet can change the game and simply remove all other builds at all.

And yes .. that was sarcasm.

Don’t complain to me. Maybe you should tell ANet to fix their game so that there is more than a small handful of builds for each profession and more than one useful gear set.

I know exactly where you are coming from, but I fear most people will take your statement as proof of “elitism.” I want to strike a balance where people like you can have the control you need to play with more hardcore types of people, while still allowing the content to be accessible.

That is why raids in GW2 shouldn’t require more than exotics, and new players should be made more aware of the multitude of ways they can get exotic gear. I also think it would put people in a more cooperative mindset if these raids were guild-related. People are conditioned to cooperate with their guild more easily, and they are more inclined to go ahead and respec their build if asked to by a guildie. It is generally seen as one family member helping another, rather than a stranger trying to boss you around.

And those people can be safely ignored. There is nothing elitist about wanting to complete content quickly and competently with a group who believes in the concept of teamwork.

I just want the chance to “play how I want”.

They can’t keep you logging in every day if they allow you to buy that with karma. Why do you think we have 50 different currencies? To make your life easier?
