Lol try zerging a WoW boss with 25 people, ignoring mechanics and not using your mitigation abilities and see what happens. Zerg content is shallow content. I don’t see the fun in overcoming game challenges by just brute forcing everything.

Give us the "inspect" command so we can see other people’s builds and traits. Also, instance more content like open world events so we can keep bads and special snowflakes with green gear and "unique" builds from ruining the event for people who are there to win.

When no one wants to run with them, they’ll either learn or remain alone and prevented from ruining other people’ experience.

Hey, you get what you pay for. I just dropped $50 on a WoW expansion pre order because I know I will get content that will keep me occupied for several months,. Even longer if you take alts into consideration. What does LS give me other than a day’s worth of mindless zerg or fluff that goes away in two weeks?

how much is several months? 7? 8? what about the rest of the 7 or 8 months you need to wait for the next expansion? what if they make a decision and take the game in a direction you dont enjoy? what do you do for the 15 months while you wait for the next expansion hoping they do better?

even if it takes you just a day of enjoyment you only need to wait 14 days for something new to enjoy thats much better then having to keep yourself occupied for months with content you no longer enjoy. (and that’s an exaggeration I hope) besides we still dont know what those two big projects are and you still get stuff you enjoy sprinkled in here and there like EOTM or fractals or sPvP maps or world bosses or guild missions etc..

Also I dont know how you can enjoy an expansion for several months if you get bored playing a dungeon (and we got a few of those in the LS) in a day.

besides will not your expansion technically go away the moment you out level it? doesnt that technically take less then 2 weeks anyway?

You must not be used to games that have actual content. You see, some months after the expansion drops we get these things called content patches that give us stuff like raids and dungeons. Take a look at what’s planned for WoW and you’ll see there is A LOT to do.

Some of us don’t have 3 hours to waste in a dungeon because we have limited playtime or we want to do other things in game, so it pays to be efficient. I don’t need to stop and smell the roses if it’s my 20th time in a dungeon. How elitist of me.

Well, here’s a suggestion. Practice your ignoring skills by starting with me, since you probably should start for when and if they release dueling without an Auto-Decline button! You know what they say right? You can never be too prepared, and practice makes perfect.

Knowing anet it will be much like the current costume brawl mechanic. i.e. you’d need to make yourself available for duels for them to happen.

I’m not sure I understand why everyone is so kitten about the concept of dueling. Some of you are behaving like they’re implementing open world PvP… like you’re going to get ganked while using the TP.

i find that, any feature that isn’t already in GW2 that WAS in WoW usually meets opposition. If it was a feature that WoW had that already exists in GW2 then there are no issues. It’s weird, but people actively fear the “WoWification” of the game, while at the same time ignoring all the ideas used in GW2 that were originally polished by WoW.

Make a thread about duels, inspect, improved combat log/parsing, mounts, etc, and people will be up in arms. I don’t play WoW and have no plans on returning, but i can at least acknowledge what an enormous, positive influence it’s had on the MMO landscape.

It goes even beyond that. Some people go as far as ridiculing people who find value in a game like WoW and are willing to pay monthly for it. And if you say that you prefer that game over GW2 then you must be “brainwashed”. It’s really pathetic.

Anyway, I don’t see why people hate duels. Preventing spam is an easy fix, so why don’t you duel haters let people play how they want?

Looks like the players who “play how they want”, namely, those running around in yellows with a ridiculously suboptimal build are afraid of a bit of criticism. That’s why they’re so scared of “inspect” and “duel”.

However, to the rest of us who are serious about clearing content, this would be a godsend. No more special snowflakes ruining world boss events and dungeons.

I’m curious, how exactly would you keep people with buils you don’t like suboptimal builds from participating in world boss events?

Call outs. People need to learn that these events require cooperation which means gearing and traiting correctly.

So basically, if Inspect gets implemented, you will tell people in chat how much their build sucks. That’s exactly the reason this game has no Inspect.

Well then. Most servers can keep failing and people can feel free to keep guesting to servers with people who know what their doing in order to down content. I sure hope they don’t limit guesting or take it away!

No, players who play how they want are doing exactly what Anet had envisioned. Your post pretty much sums up why some in the pro-duel/inspect camp can be safely ignored.

If you want a game that’s a total gankfest, then go and play one. GW2 isn’t for you.

How is dueling going to create a gankfest? Don’t want to duel? Then don’t. Let OTHER people play how they want to play.

I really don’t get it. People complain about shallow, zergy content but that’s what you’re going to get if you let people be special snowflakes and do what they want instead of requiring some semblance of teamwork. I guess that’s too “elitist”.

An interesting notion to all those defending this game in it’s current state.

Ask yourself this.

If ALL things remained the same content wise would you still be playing this game if it was released with a subscription payment model?

I have a feeling the resounding answer to this question will be no.

If the game provides perceived value and enjoyment – the payment model really shouldn’t matter to most consumers as prior games have proven.

Of course not. I get the feeling that the reason a lot of these people play is that there is no sub, it’s pretty, and it’s not WoW.

As has been said, it takes a week to get the set and then you have months to do whatever you wish. The grind in GW2 is continuous. Ascended, AP, WvW, ranks, karma, laurels, mats, etc. And all for very, very little reward.

But! You can bypass all of this by spending a little cash at the gem shop.

The thing is WoW always going to put out a new set over and over in time because of this you will be below the curve or need to make a job of the game to get the best gear and keep up. And that you cant avoid dmg you must take it gear is much more important in WoW then it will ever be in GW2.

Also you can buy level 90 in WoW i image buying gear with money is coming next.

Wrong again. At max level everyone has an innate 77% damage reduction in PvP. You really don’t know what you’re talking about, do you? I play the game casually, not as a “second job”, and for the time spent I get rewarded way more, and get much further than if I spent an equivalent amount of time in GW2. I’ve played both, and I know what I’m talking about.

As for buying a 90, why not? I’d never spend the $60, even though I’ve leveled through the content because I enjoy questing, leveling, and alts.

That not important dmg drop if every one get it it would be effectively giving every one 0% if every one has the same. If they add in stronger gear by a full gear sets then you NEED that gear set to pvp at the top because WoW is a non action mmorpg you can move out of the way but you cant truly avoid dmg.

You said your self your working on a new gear set by pvping are you pvping for a gear set or pvping because you want to pvp? Once you get this gear set what dose that mean? Do you pvp better (meaning that your pvp before was weaker due to not having this gear set) do you stop pvp and go play pve. Why do you need better from pvping? In GW2 Spvp the equivalent to WoW battle grounds has no stronger gear sets in it and you can get all the gear for free with out leveling.

Its not important if you did or did not its only important that you CAN AND its a P2P game with a money shop. They are robing you blind but hay if you want to spend money i cant stop you just point out that your playing a game where you pay a monthly fee but yet it keep moving to more of a F2P type money shop.

Of course the damage reduction is important. It means that players just getting into PvP can actually contribute instead of being killed outright. Like CC, silence, and harass, because the game has some strategy to it, rather than zerging and spamming 1. And I PvP because I enjoy it. Yeah, the gear helps but they’ve made PvP more accessible than ever, to everyone mind you, by making the process of getting the gear short and sweet.

I don’t have some strange hangup over paying a sub either. I understand that I’m paying for access to a service, just like when I pay for my cell phone sub, my internet sub, or my netflix sub. I’m not “wasting” anything if I’m not constantly using them. It’s there when I want it, and I have access to the same content as everyone else. When I don’t want it anymore, I just cancel it

Till the next set comes out for WoW lol WoW is pure grind and treadmill do not fool your self. Your not going to see a new vertical progression in GW2 for some time or simply not at all.

Didn’t they announce legendary trinkets already sort of?

There’s going to be legendary armor. And if you are able to change stats on them like you could with legendary weapons, prepare for an extremely long, tedious grind. Worse than ascended, stuff of nightmares. Of course, it’s going to be better than ascended and you’re going to HAVE to grind this if you want to be able to experiment with builds. If not, have grinding out different sets of ascended. LOL

GW2 is the grindiest game I’ve ever played and seems geared towards people who have OCD over completing checklists.

You have little experience in MMOs I take it, if GW2 is the grindiest game you’ve ever played.

Maybe WoW has changed things since the last time I played, but don’t they still keep coming out with new tiers of gear? So the PvP set you are grinding for in BGs (yes you are grinding), will become obsolete when the next set comes out, requiring you to grind some more?

That was why I quit WoW (when WotLK came out) in the first place, getting tier after tier, only to continuously become obsolete when the next patch came out. That got old real fast. I was a die-hard WoW fan, bought it midnight the day it came out in 2004, hard-core raider up through WotLK, and just got burned out having to keep regearing. It’s nice finally having a definitive end to gearing.

Um, it takes me a week to get my pvp gear and it’s good for several months, whereas here the grind never ends and the power curve is so shallow, that getting the gear is mostly unsatisfying.

GW2 isn’t a grindfest at all. Anyone who says that has always been a grinder themselves. They force that grind feeling on themselves and it makes the game a LOT less fun than it is and also you don’t need to craft Ascended Gear. the only reason for it is if you’re doing higher level fractals, which is a smaller part of the game.

Sorry. But people who want to optimize their character and do stuff like WvW and Fractals HAVE to grind the gear. Some people may be content running around in greens, with special snowflake builds, holding everyone back in world boss events but I’m not one of them.

It’s better because I don’t outlevel areas. I can pretty much go what I want and do what I want, when I want. I’m not funneled into raiding, which I consider to be the most ridiculous, boring, annoying affair ever designed in a game. The trinity is silly, contrived and makes me want give up gaming altogether. I don’t compete with people for nodes. I don’t have to gear up to PvP at all.

There’s more to this game than checklists. In fact, if you only play this game for checklists, you’re probably going to feel quite pressured.

This game is a great game to kick around in. WoW…not so much.

Actually wow is a far superior game to “kick” around in vs Gw2.

Wow has more content for someone who doesn’t raid then all the content in GW2 combined.

Yeah. A lot of these people have no idea what they’re talking about or think the game is the same as it was 5 years. ago. I don’t raid, and I have plenty to do. I actually LIKE logging on and going to do whatever I planned to do that day. On the other hand, as my time with GW2 was ending, I’d log in, sit in LA for 20 minutes, look at my daily/monthly lists, and just log off.

The trinity may be showing its age, but GW2 demonstrates what happens when you remove it. You become just another dps zergling.

I’m doing the same thing, and will probably just have fun in battlegrounds until the expansion. I’m leveling another character for this specific purpose, this time, through different zones. It’s nice going through a zone and actually seeing multiple story lines unfold, unlike here where you do hearts which are really just poorly disguised contextless quests of this worst type.

The honor grind really isn’t even that much of a grind any more since you can still function in a BG as an undergeared character. Sure, you’re damage will be bad but you can still be useful.

I came from using wow for 3.5 years where everything is customizable, and while I appreciate that part of WoW, I enjoy not having to worry about it. That being said, the biggest boss I have fought so far was the FIRST dragon in the story mode. So I may eventually get annoyed by it.

I’d say that my biggest complaint is a lack of online access to my auctions/auction house. And a lack of any sort of character view outside of the game. This is ONE area that Blizz has ANet beat. Battle.net is awesome for those who cannot play all day but want to make some gold off of auctions.

Another area in which blizzard has them best is that actual gameplay is fun and rewarding rather than being designed to herd people into the gem shop.

You’re wrong.

Unlike WoW where you NEED to grind the gear to complete the next tier of content, in GW2 you don’t.

There is gear to get only if you like the look of it. Some of it gives you a very minor boost in stats but doesn’t allow you to see or play any content someone with only rares can experience.

I came back to WoW after a six month break and was running the latest content within a week, because Blizzard introduced an easy catch up mechanic that gives you gear and is actually REWARDING unlike here where the most rewarding this is spending money in the cash shop, converting gold to gems, and saving yourself a whole lot of grind and headache.

Any serious WvW player will grind out ascended (legendary soon) because an advantage is an advantage is an advantage.

It’s funny because the gear grind here is worse than it is in WoW.

I’m actually back playing WoW. I had come to GW2 to escape the grind among other things and, since Nov-12, GW2 is the grindiest game I’ve ever played. WoW is a piece of cake in comparison. In WoW I can grind out a set of gear in 1-2 months and I’m done grinding for the rest of the tier. Here the grind is never over. GW2 has taught me that a fast steep grind is far less grindy than a long slow one that is never over. And, I can maintain alts in WoW—good luck gearing them up in GW2.

I’m back playing WoW as well. I don’t think the gear grind even qualifies as a grind. You get to do a fun raid once a week and it’s only a few hours. Pvp gear isn’t even a grind if you enjoy pvp because they gave everyone the same damage reduction. Just starting out, you may hit like a wet noodle but you’re still useful.

oh god! those dreadful raid nights!! raiding was actually what made me quit wow, it was the worst thing I had ever experienced in a game… the problem wasn’t the many failed atempts though, it was that raiding wasn’t done for fun, I was raiding to get a chance to roll against my guildies for 1 piece of gear… nope, no thank you

Doing Tequatl was very akin to raiding but it was just for fun, for the glory of beating it 1st on your server, that’s how dificult content should be, not an endless grind for more gear

Would rather spend a few hours a week doing an activity I enjoy and not get anything that grind my life away or spend money in the cash shop here. And FYI, not getting at least one thing is fairly rare. People in the lower difficulty get their own loot rolls so you don’t have to fight people over gear.

It takes me a week to get a set of pvp gear, and since PvE gear is scaled down and doesn’t have any pvp stats there is no need for PvE BiS. Here you need to grind out ascended (legendary soon!) or else you’re at a disadvantage in WvW. Nothing is scaled down.

Just because you didn’t feel the need to grind doesn’t mean it wasn’t nessecary to grind.

In WoW you could take a break for a year and by the time you came back you would be behind everyone else by 2-3 tiers of gear.
Here it is 1 tier with not much of a stat increase.

Also, in WoW PvE gear is better than PvP gear(haven’t played since 2012 so it may have changed by now).
Here everyone has the same gear in PvP. Unless you are talking about WvW, which is concidered PvE.

I took a break from WoW for 7 months to play this game. I went back to WoW and was ready for the latest raid in under a week because blizzard provided catch up mechanics. PvE gear lacks pvp power which is required to overcome the inherent 70%+ damage reduction all players have. You can have great PvE gear but you’ll hit like a wet noodle.

Fact is, WoW holds closer to the gw2 manifesto than gw2 itself by reducing grind and increasing accessibility. And I still have fun and plenty to do after 6 years with that game.

It’s funny because the gear grind here is worse than it is in WoW.

Is GW2 Fun Yet?

I’d pay $15 a month to NOT have Scarlet.

Where has this game been all my life!

Hahaha and here I thought you needed to do something actually, legendary and challenging, in order to earn a legendary weapon. Turns out not. Well..,perhaps if you consider that you need legendary amounts of patience to endure the horrible grinds…
