Wait until people start getting their ascended weapons, and less and less people run champion trains/events.

Have fun getting those mats! Unless you’re one of those grinders that belong in WoW or FF 14 online, and jumped on the bandwagon the very first night.

Sadly, I will probably never defeat this boss because I refuse to get to the zone an hour early and sit there twiddling my thumbs waiting for him to spawn. If I go do other stuff while waiting and try to zone in when he starts attacking, I get dumped into overflow which is a sure failure.

if the past is any indication everyone will have no trouble acquiring a full set of ascended gear by that time.

I mean we’re one year in, can we say there is any content that requires exotic gear?

Would you rather do WvW in blues or exotics? Would you rather run Fractals in blues or exotics? Yeah, you’re technically right. Exotics aren’t required, but you’re making things more difficult for yourself and you’re hurting your group by choosing to run in blues. Being at a constant disadvantage against other players isn’t fun.

No thanks. I’ll probably stick around in GW2 until the time where having full ascended becomes expected, and then I’m gone.

Seems like ANet doesn’t cater to players whose playstyle deviates from champion zerg farming and sitting at a crafting station.

There’s no time for that stuff when you need to grind out mats for ascended. I didn’t even kittening know that the mats for ascended were time gated. Now I will be even further behind and I can’t afford to raise a weapon crafting trade to 500.

They already said it’s not going to be possible because of the Personal Story stuff.

But I think they should just allow it, but when you race change, it’ll wipe your entire personal story progress and any associated items, and you’d have to start over. Also, make it so you don’t get rewards as well since you already got them once.

Just to lighten up on the constant negativity in this thread, I did have a good time playing the game last time.

I got a map completion on the last zone in Orr, found and completed a jumping puzzle, but the highlight of the night was doing the Arah event with 4-5 people. We got the champion but the risen wizard killed us all with something like 0.5% health left. More people came for round 2, and we got it, but round 1 was more fun. I got to use all of my weapon sets and abilities and it was way more involved then the Dwayna event I did with the zerg next. On that one, all I could do was attack from ranged because every time I tried to melee, I couldn’t see a thing and would instantly die.

In short, more stuff like wizard and less like Dwayna, ANet.

I’m not doing WvW without ascended weapons/trinkets because I refuse to be at a 15% disadvantage (math in threads on this forum). This also deviates from what was promised.

Lots of people do WvW with upleveled characters. I’m in a similar situation as you (I’m nowhere close to having an ascended weapon) but I do WvW regularly. You can also do PvP if you’re looking for perfectly even fights. Those happen so rarely in WvW that I don’t think you’ll ever really notice stat disparity. Perhaps at some point in the future, there might be content so hard that you’ll almost have to have ascended gear, but I’m not seeing it so far.

Obsession with max gear seems similar to the playstyles you’re condemning.

First, I understand that people do WvW with upleveled characters. The thing is that this has always been possible and people accept that they will be weaker. Because they get stuff out of it and they get to level.

The only reason I’m concerned about max gear is that it will very quickly become necessary if ANet continues on its current path. Wait until you come across someone with full ascended weapons and trinkets, who is doing 15-20% more damage to you. Sounds like it’ll be a fun and fair fight, lol.

Oh wait. WvW will never be balanced so it’s okay to have ascended gear. Carry on.

20% more damage because of +4 power on an ascended item? nope sorry. I’ve 1v1 against multiple characters wielding ascended weapons (i have none) and i will assume if they put in the effort for weapons that they had jewelry as well. Yet i defeated them as easily as I always have. Not to mention you can get ascended weapons IN wvw for FREE without crafting. Its strange how your so obsessed with max gear yet simply expect it to be handed to you (spvp says hi)

Go look at the math posted in this section of the forum. Or not, I don’t care. But don’t misrepresent the power of these items.

Your anecdotal evidence, btw, proves nothing.

And your blatant sense of entitlement proves what? I’ve had no problems in wvw since ascended weapons. Your tearful boycott serves what purpose? You wont play without BiS gear, but you wont do anything to earn it? Good luck with that

What sense of entitlement? From what I recall, I posted why I will never have ascended items, and not that I demand those items be given to me. Why are you so angry?

If you like mindless grinding for mats and find it fun, that’s fine. But this is not the product that was sold to me last year.

Well yeah, you will be more or less forced to zerg. I have one character built as a wall defender (8-80’s in total) so this effect won’t be too bad there. But my offensive roaming character (another class/build) which I play far more, will be at a clear disadvantage to others equipped in ascended trinkets, weapons and armor which will all add up to quite a bit. Oh yeah, then add in all the cash needing to be spent on gems to buy transmutation stones for multiple sets (whether you buy them or someone else does) Big ching-ching for Anet. Anet said long ago that they were not going to do this, but they did anyway. So whether people argue in favor of it or not, bottom line remains that the game was sold on a false promotion/adverts. Pretty much breaks trust.

And it’s too bad I don’t enjoy zerg play. I prefer small groups or solo.

So by “just playing” I have 300 dust, 10 dragonite ore, 20 fragments, and 15 dark matter. I’ll have an ascended weapon by October 2014 at this rate.

I went ahead and tried to get dragonite ore. I found that I had to sit around and watch timers in addition to getting to an area early in order to avoid being dumped into overflow. Then I got to mill around, bored, while waiting for the world boss/event and then I got to fail along with everyone else in the group and got nothing.

Enthralling game design right there.

Yes and no. Up until recently you weren’t really missing anything by not attending boss events. Therefore you argument would be invalid about having to camp in zones to beat overflows and stand around bored. However now that we have dragonite from world bosses it’s validated. Sure you CAN get it elsewhere, but expect to have enough by Christmas if you are just getting it from world chests a few at a time.

WvW seems to be a good way to get the mats. I don’t do WvW though. However I have also made two ascended weapons as of last night so it’s not a challenge for me. I do empathize with you though and understand the frustration.

I’m not doing WvW without ascended weapons/trinkets because I refuse to be at a 15% disadvantage (math in threads on this forum). This also deviates from what was promised.

I don’t want anything for “free”.

And I don’t mind putting in effort…if it’s challenging and fun. Grinding for points and materials is not challenging, it’s tedious. And we should expect better than that.

How much more meaningful would a legendary, or even ascended weapon be, if you could say: “I did challenging tasks a,b,c, etc. and gathered a few rare mats from dangerous areas x, y, z, etc.” rather than “I did 2000 simple events to get the karma points I needed for my legendary, in addition to spending some gold.”?

If anything, the second scenario is a handout. It’s dull, not challenging and all it requires is that you be present and marginally competent. And it’s what we currently get in the game. Just show up enough times and you’ll get your legendary.

What I get from your post is that you DO NOT want to work for anything

YES

What exactly is the attraction of having a second job you have to pay for?

In fact, isn’t this the biggest promise Guild Wars 2 rode into the spotlight on its shiny white stallion? That it wouldn’t be like other MMOs?That it wouldn’t be a grind? That it wouldn’t be “work”? That it would be simply “fun”?

This shouldn’t be a second job. It’s absurd. It shouldn’t require “work”. It’s a GAME. For PLAYING. For FUN.

That is how the game was sold to me from the material I read before I purchased it last year. But sadly, it seems like ANet changed their philosophy and it’s becoming more like other MMOs.

I do stuff in game. I do most events I come across, I’m trying to get into dungeons, and I wanted to get into WvW. But again, what fun is it to play against people who have at the very least, a 15% advantage with ascended trinkets and weapon? That’ll get worse with ascended armor. And what did they do to “earn” that advantage? They had more time to blow grinding than I did.

No offense with this reply to you OP, so please don’t take this as a personal attack, ect.

What I get from your post is that you DO NOT want to work for anything, because to you working towards gear/items ect. = grind/treadmilling.

You want to be able to login and have fun, having things given to you because of my previous statement.

You feel very reluctant to spend any time gaining karma or spending your laurels because the fear of ANet putting in different or better gear will render your karma/laurel items/gear less effective.

I again meant not offense with my reply, it just seems like you want to login and have fun and put NO work into it because it will just end in you being outdone or outclassed later on.

Best of luck, and I hope my harshness wasn’t enough to push you over the edge.

Work? This is a game.

I want to spend time getting better at the professions I enjoy playing rather than spending time getting gear so I can compete. Is that so terrible?

1. I will probably never have a legendary, now that you’ve nerfed karma. I toyed with the idea pre nerf, but imagine my surprise when I started getting karma vials from completing dailies a few days after I spent most of my karma on temple armor. I will not grind 2000+ events and/or dungeons. I left that other MMO precisely because of this type of treadmill/grind.

2. I will never have ascended trinkets. I’m sitting on 62 laurels, but I am loath to spend them because I have multiple characters and I never know what wonderful changes you will implement next. I don’t want to be caught in a situation like I was with karma points, where I spend most of laurels and then you implement some change that makes them more difficult to get or they become necessary to obtain even better items. In addition to this, I only do dailies if they correspond to whatever I’m doing that day. I don’t log in to do chores, ANet.

3. I will never have ascended weapons. That is, unless the required mats build up in my bags through daily activity and leveling crafting isn’t cost prohibitive. As it stands now, leveling that one crafting discipline is cost prohibitive for me.

4. I will never have ascended armor, for reasons stated in point 3.

5. And because of 1-4, I will never participate in WvW because being at a constant disadvantage when playing against other people isn’t fun.

I log in to have fun, ANet. Not to do daily chores, not to grind, not to chase more powerful, and required gear…I log in to have fun. When I bought your game, you led me to the impression that the best gear would be easy to get at level 80, so I could spend my time doing whatever I wanted. Looks like I was wrong.

Has your philosophy regarding the type of player you’d like to retain, changed as well?

Dark Catalyst.1028

The LFG tool is for the rest of us, so we can avoid you people.

Why would anyone think the LFG tool is for casuals? Dungeons are the least casual friendly content I’ve encountered in the entire game. Incidentally, the unskilled and inexperienced players in question aren’t typically casuals to begin with. They’re just new. Some gain skills and stay patient and willing to teach, others are just glad that phase of dungeoneering is over and only want to group up with other experienced players. In my experience running with both types of groups helps players improve their knowledge and skills. We shouldn’t try to cut one or the other out of the equation.

And we need to stop with this polarized view of the community. The casual/hardcore split is much less prominent in-game. Most of us want the same things; to have fun and minimize hassles.

Which is it, because I’ve read both claims on these forums. Are dungeons faceroll or are they difficult? If they’re faceroll, then it shouldn’t matter much what you get from LFG. If they’re challenging, then do you really want to draw random people you’ve never played with from LFG?

I can tell you that from my initial impressions of the LFG tool along with how negative this community is, that I probably won’t be using this tool. I’ve been playing for a while but I haven’t set foot in a dungeon. I’m interested, but it looks like the best way to go for me, is to see if some people in my guild are willing to help me out.

The people who want to abuse the LFG in order to restrict runs to certain professions/levels/achievement points/gear so they can shave off a minute here or there (not that it matters, you’re playing an MMO, thus your time has little value) can create groups the same way they did in the past: The LFG website or guilds. The LFG tool is for the rest of us, so we can avoid you people.

Or preferably, just go back to WoW. I see that community’s attitude slowing infesting this community and I really don’t care for it.

With the advent of the LFG tool, I think we need a tool to protect ourselves from abusive players. As I understand it, we currently have the block feature which prevents blocked players from sending us whispers, but it needs to go further.

We need an ignore feature which is preferably account wide. If someone is so abusive to the point I never want to deal with them again and I “ignore” them, I’m not going to want to talk to them or group with them on ANY of my characters. Whispers need to be permanently blocked and grouping through LFG needs to be blocked until such time the “ignore” is lifted.

This will result in less work for the support team and less frustration for players. It’s an efficient and elegant solution because you could take care of the problem yourself. Right-click, ignore, account wide problem solved!

It’s interesting. Probably not very useful when it comes down to the fact that most of the people I know who enjoy the game have stopped posting here altogether, because they’ve been attacked by people who don’t enjoy the game.

That argument can go both ways. Even when players have valid criticisms like this gear grind one, they are attacked.

I’ve never attacked anyone for complaining about gear grind. I’ve attacked people who keep bringing up Anet said something 87 years ago and it changed. Yes, it changed. Last November. If you don’t like the change move on…because it’s already changed. It’s not going to change back.

I don’t particularly love the change myself but having the same argument for ten months isn’t helping anyone.

When I bought Final Fantasy 14, I knew what I was getting into, but when I bought Guild Wars 2 I thought I was getting one thing, but ended up with something worse.

Just the fact that Legendaries had equal stats to exotics showed you their philosophy, it was all cosmetic. Here is what happened, GW2 launched with a “no grind” “no gear progression” philosophy. A couple of months into the games launch they probably saw that the retention numbers were abysmal and they needed to do something and give players something to work for. So they added in new gear that players can earn.

Yes they changed their mind, and honestly I don’t blame them for doing it. But they did change their mind.

So, in short, they took the easy way out.

I don’t know what’s more disappointing: ANet’s 180 regarding their design philosophy or the fact that players are unable to make their own fun in the world and “need” mindless grinding in order to feel a sense of “achievement”. How the hell is grinding for the next tier of gear fun? For people who like it, there are other people that get kitten ed off because now they feel like they have to get all of this ascended gear in order to complete in something like WvW. Sure, you don’t “need” it. That is, if you don’t like playing on an even playing field and enjoy getting stomped by people who like grinding more than you.

Cosmetic stuff I’m cool with because it’s entirely optional and I will readily admit that there are a few sets I would be willingly to spend the time to get them. But that doesn’t give me a numerical advantage over other players…

Right, but it’s WvW so it’s not really "PvP’. It’s designed to be unfair, and making it fair would invalidate all the time and money the grinders spent on getting gear and buffs. If people want “fair” then they should go play sPvP.

Power creep in WvW is too high

Just wait until you have to grind out a full set of ascended gear. It’ll be even worse!

It’s okay to be overpowered in WvW since it’s really not PvP (even though players fight each other). Problem? LOL grind or buy them.

Have to craft Ascended Weapons?
