Upgrade extractor price

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Dastion.3106

Dastion.3106

The item is prohibitively expensive. There is very little reason to ever purchase it whether you’re converting gold to gems or buying gems.

Taking current values:
Extractor = 250 gems
Exchanging Gold for 250 Gems = 19g 25s
Converting 250 Gems to Gold = 13g 88s

In the vast majority of cases you are better off just buying another upgrade off the TP than paying for an extractor, you’d even be better off buying gems and converting them to gold rather than using them to get the extractor.

One function of RMT currencies (or real world equivalents too) is to serve to obscure costs. It makes people more willing to spend when they have that extra step in the transactions. If gem store items instead had $ values people would be less likely to buy.

Note, I’m not disparaging this practice. It’s common enough and has many benefits too. My point is that in this case it serves as a trap. The practice relies on the idea that people don’t necessarily ‘do the math’ so players fall into the trap of buying an extractor without realizing just how cost inefficient it is for all but a few circumstances (such as potent infusions).

The biggest fail of this SAB is that it’s too long.

Lesson learned. I get it.

I guess the first one was successful because it was new, innovative and they wanted to get it right. Now when they made the second one, they’re just throw in a bigger team, a bigger budget and demand lengthier contents and say yup, that’s what players want. Like the say, the sequels are always crap until the next fresh reboot.

Smaller team, actually. And the length was my own desire to get as many ideas as I could in there. I spent several months pulling 16 hour days and a couple weeks where I did a couple 36 hour stretches, went home, slept and came back and did it again. No one else wanted me to do that. In fact those sort of crazy hours are discouraged at ArenaNet. I did that because I freeking love what I do and wanted this release to be the best thing ever. Turns out I pushed too hard to get those new mechanics in there and I’m being told here over and over that all that work was wasted and it’s making people miserable. I’ve learned my lesson. Won’t happen again! And for that, my family thanks you!

That last bit comes off a bit sarcastic (though maybe there is a better word). I understand you put in long hours and really dedicated yourself to this project, but you shouldn’t let others get you down – especially on a forum. There is a very good reason developers have to look at both the feedback AND the metrics. Complainers will always be more vocal. Just look at the Halloween jumping puzzle, so many people loved the challenge, but based on the forums you’d think that one of ANet’s better creations (SAB is at the top of that list FYI) was an utter failure. I’m bet once your numbers come in you’ll see that a lot of players spent a lot of time in the SAB.

The question isn’t if your long hours were ‘worth it’, what you and your team made is extremely impressive. What you’ve done is make a game within a game, and no matter the hours put into a game (MMO based especially) you WILL get negative feedback and there WILL be iteration. So don’t let it get you down or let negative feedback disappoint you. However, I will say that while I admire your dedication and appreciate your long hours – I’d rather you didn’t do it at the cost to yourself. Spend your free time with the family :-).

As to actual feedback – it’s fun! It seemed like there were more jumps that virtually required a kick flip to make it across, and I wasn’t happy with the content being gated by a 400 bauble cost item hidden in a secret shop. To me, things like that should offer short cuts or make things easier, not force you to search for a secret shop and farm baubles to continue. For example, the Glove is required to move forward, but you encounter and obtain it as part of the story, the Torch is different.

The only other feedback I have is that maybe the key to the ‘difficult’ complaints is to add more team play elements. For instance, If you could summon an ally a short distance using the wooden whistle that would encourage group play, letting you help allies past difficult jumps.

I ran a Shatter build in PvE for awhile. Typical 20/20/0/0/30. I liked to think that while my sustained damage wasn’t incredible, that I did alright. I also focused on using Dazzling properly, fitting in a burst of 20-25 Vuln every 30-40 seconds to increase the party’s damage is hard to quantify.

Problems with Engineers and Legendaries 2

in Engineer

Dastion.3106

As are mesmers, but they still get better treatment than us.

The grass is always greener. If you think Mesmer’s have gotten good treatment then they must come to your home and flog you while you play. We’re excited when we don’t get any patch notes.

Anyhow, as I’ve said in other threads I think you guys are jumping the gun. You have one weapon set plus potentially kits (I never did like the idea of limiting your sets because you can potentially equip kits, but that’s another argument). If you had a legendary then you now have a single ascended in your main set and an ‘exotic’ in your offset(s) – just like everyone else that had a Legendary.

The point is, you are just as likely to have had a single legendary or have gotten a day 1 Ascended drop as anyone else. The vast majority of players are still in the same range as you. Automatically updating what ANet sees as your second weapon set to Ascended status on day 1 would be silly when most of the player base doesn’t even have a single ascended weapon, let alone the potential for two sets worth.

I do think that given your restrictions it should be easier for you, but it’s not causing any imbalance at the moment. Hopefully they’ll development a method to key kit potency based on your main-hand weapon’s rarity.

Hey finally kits are buf...emh....

in Engineer

Posted by: Dastion.3106

Dastion.3106

Guys, stop all the doom and gloom and think about it for a second.

You do realize that the vast majority of players still have only Exotics, right? The only ascended weapons in the game currently are legendaries which, of those that have them, most only have 1. You’re just as capable of having one of those in your set as any one else. There are a few ascended drops here and there, but, again – those aren’t class specific.

Crafting Ascended weapons is time-gated (to put it mildly) and it will be some time before they are the standard, which is likely when they’ll update kits to match. Though, ideally, setting a their values based on your MH Pistol or Rifle would be the better route rather than waiting until Ascended are the norm. Which, while I’m on the subject, is a silly argument (the whole Rifles would be preferred thing). Kits currently have an “exotic equivalent” value, so just set it to that if your rifle/pistol is exotic and do the same for other rarities – no need to base it off the damage values.

You’re not the only ones affected by this (though granted, it’s a bit more baked in for you). Conjured weapons need similar updates to keep them viable. It’ll happen, but don’t fret because its not on day one.

Birthday Gifts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dastion.3106

Dastion.3106

It seems obvious that the birthday gifts were designed to be account based. The letter you receive even references your account activation, not character creation. The gifts also seem odd for something to give to EVERY character. No one needs several Queen minis and level 20 experience scrolls. I might as well not have rerolled/played most of my alts (who are 1-17 or so), I could have just made them on day 1 and had them be level 20 today.

I’ve always disliked the character based birthday gifts because it discourages rerolling characters, I had high hopes that ANet was taking a better route with this when the datamined mails were discovered referencing your account activation anniversary.

Account bound legendaries? Please...?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Dastion.3106

It would be nice if they made them account bound. Currently you can swap legendaries between characters by transmuting them with a white item to make them account bound and re-transmuting them with the desired stats, but there might be some issue with this after the patch given the new ability to change stats legendaries are going to get.

Transmuting items makes them soulbound

Not if you transmute to a white item. Then it becomes account bound.

Illusion of Life DOWNS you when rallying

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Dastion.3106

Was this happening with regular enemy NPCs, or just neutrals like the one in the gif?

While on the subject of buggy Illusion of Life.. Is it intended that the spell ending increases the player’s downed penalty? Possibly killing them outright if the penalty is too high?

This is the only ally rez skill which can actually be detrimental to use. Yes, I realize it’s area of effect and a relatively shorter cool down, but that’s balanced against it’s temporary nature.

I shouldn’t, as a player, be able to consign another player to death by casting it on them when their downed penalty is maxed and there aren’t any enemies to rally off of. It’s borderline player griefing.

Downed state's Place in the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dastion.3106

Dastion.3106

I like the downed state. The downed state (combined with dodge and positional attacks) is GW2’s replacement for dedicated healers. In most MMOs you need a dedicated Healer in order to recover the party in dire circumstances. Instead, GW2 offers the downed state which allows everyone to suddenly become a Healer and help a party member in need.

Stop thinking of the end of the health bar being the point where the player should die. That simply isn’t how it works in this game. The downed state in GW2 is no different than any other MMOs when you get an enemy nearly dead and then suddenly have someone fully heal them.

High Stakes Gambler Achievement - Easy Mode

in Mesmer

Posted by: Dastion.3106

Dastion.3106

Prior to the nerf, I was actually farming deadeye with 5 gambits. It was very easy.

20/20/0/30/0. Sword/focus+greatsword. Use daze mantra, feedback, and signet of illusions. Spawn zerker and immediately warden at the start. Walk up to him carefully, avoiding mines. Sometimes he will aim very soon, be ready to hit blurred frenzy quickly. Use blurred frenzy to block his first aim attack. Use temporal curtain to reflect his normal attacks when your warden is not spinning. You can also use LoS with your warden to block his normal attacks. Once he goes to range, swap to greatsword and use zerker, and use daze mantra to stop the next attack. After that attack, swap back to sword even if he is still at long range and use blurred frenzy to dodge the next one. At this point, your phantasms should kill him, but you still have another daze ready if you need it.

The need to reactively avoid/interrupt his attack or else you die is why I suggested ooze over deadeye. Yes, it’s easy once you get the feel of it or if you’re just good at interrupts but it adds an extra level of difficulty that the ooze does not have. In both fights you use Wardens to protect you from the range attacks. With the ooze it pretty much stops there, whereas with deadeye you mix in a ‘interrupt this skill or you die’ aspect.

High Stakes Gambler Achievement - Easy Mode

in Mesmer

Posted by: Dastion.3106

Dastion.3106

5 Gambits on the ooze was easy for me and I’m pure berserker, do all gambits except Crowd Fav (Tremors got removed). Deadeye requires too many reactive actions, ooze doesn’t.

Try a 10/20/5/25/0 base phantasm build (you have 10 pts to put else where. I’d say Dom or duelist for more damage). Bring Ether Feast, Feedback, Signet of Illusions, and whatever else for the 3rd utility. For elite bring a summon racial (Hounds, Take Root, etc) or Time Warp. For Weapons do Sword/Focus and Sword/Sword(Or Pistol if you go 30 Dueling).

Summon a Warden on him immediately and stand inside the Warden’s bubble. Attack him with your sword and summon your Swordsman/Duelist. When the first Warden stops channeling use Feedback to block most of the mini ooze attacks. By time it ends your warden will be channeling again so stand in his bubble again while attacking the ooze. Once he finishes you should be able to cast a second Warden, time it so he begins just as the other finishes so that you can jump between the two. Use your elite for extra damage and canon fodder.

It’s a little silly how easy it is, at worst you need some light healing to keep your HP up, which regen from Phantasms should help with, but you could mix in restorative mantras if needed.

When do you use the F3 shatter?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Dastion.3106

Dastion.3106

In my typical Shatter build I use it frequently (though I’m messing with Phantasm at the moment).

Note that this, of course, utilizes illusionary persona.

PvE: Combined with Dazzling I can stack 20-25 Vuln easy, I then follow that up with iLeap and Blurred Frenzy Mirror Image and Mind Wrack. I consider this useful for increasing team damage overall.

PvP: Sometimes as a Vuln burst, but usually F1 + F2 is better for taking someone out quickly. But I’ll still toss in an F3 to prevent a reaction briefly. I often use this for saving my allies from being stomped. If I have IP I just beat on the enemy or Rez the ally and hit F3. If I don’t have it I throw out an Illusion in the target first. IP is easier, but prepping with an illusion is useful once you get the hang of it.

I did not ‘paint you as ungrateful’, I simply pointed out human nature. We rarely appreciate the good as much as we disdain the bad. And I did qualify my statement by pointing out that ANet tends to not announce changes.

Yes we have had more than our fair share of nerfs, but we’ve also gotten some rather nice quality of life buffs too, which is more important to me. My only real issue with the profession currently revolves around limited viable build options.

The Mesmer community as a whole tends to overlook seemingly minor buffs, granted it doesn’t help that ANet doesn’t put things like this in patch notes.

For example, we had a few weeks where Illusions suddenly started being hit by bouncing skills and they took just as much priority as any other target. There was a lot of uproar because it seriously hurt staff and great sword, since Illusions were almost always closer than you or an ally and so stole bounces.

Turns out, this was a precursor to new bounce logic that was implemented soon after, whereas before illusions were ignored by bounces, they are now a valid target if no other valid target is available. This means GS now has greater ranged ability because you can bounce mirror blade off your zerker while maintaining max range. Previously the GS was counter intuitive since, while solo, you had to be 900 units away for max auto attack damage but had to be within 600 units to allow mirror blade to get all of its hits. This was incredible to me… The Mesmer community barely noticed.

I think iMage should just throw a purple fireball that explodes doing burning + confusion. It fits the Torch theme better and would be more reliable.

The problem is that they are stuck on iMage being the GW2 iteration of ‘Backfire/Empathy’. (I forget what the skill it casts is called, I think Backfire). So they want it to do confusion + retaliation so that it really penalizes actions like those skills did in GW1.

Mesmer downed state is fine. It’s among the top 3 and provides some offensive and PvE utility that the others in the top 3 don’t gain.

We already lose all conditions when downed.
I also like the rogue, it does massive damage in power builds :o.

I really like deception. Its a 100% stomp interupter(in a teamfight), something other professions can only dream of :o.

If we didnt have he stealth it wouldnt be 100% :P.

THIS WAS ALL SARCASM

And #4 is the same for everyone, it’s not going to be changed. It’s purpose is to allow you a chance to get yourself up when there is no one to rally off of. Otherwise if you got downed just as an enemy died you’d have no choice but to sit there and die. In beta when the skill instead gave you brief invulnerability people would down you run away.

Also, I’ve killed plenty if people while downed. No, you’re unlikely to do it if they are full health – which is how it should be – but you’re more than capable of finishing someone off with double confusion spam, never mind that your Phantasms persist while you’re downed. That guaranteed extra time Deception gives you allows any remaining Phantasms to continue to deal damage while you spam pretty decent auto attack damage + confusion AND get a clone to spam confusion along with you.

I must have finished roughly half of the Queen’s gauntlet challenges while I was downed and my Illusions kept the boss distracted. I even beat that south sun boss (the one in the instance with all of the land mines) while being downed – it was easier than soon it the real way – and that was before the illusion PvE HP buff.

I’ve modified the post you quoted slightly.

I was skimming, no need to be a kitten. The vast majority of my post has little to do with the quote. In fact the ‘edit’ was to add in the quote to give relevance to the few sentences where I talked about the #4 skill.

What’s worse is that in the Mesmer forums nowadays, someone asking for something so stupid is so common place that I don’t think twice about it not being serious.

Making it interupted by damage is also silly, no other skill in the game is interupted by that. And while were at it, it should scale with healig power. Heal +100% faster per 100 healing power.
As of now, we have no chance of killing a player if were downed and theyre not. If #4 was changed like this we wouldnt have to feel so… Close to death while downed.

Firstly, I always considered the relative lack of hair/face options for Sylvari to be because we had such much other variety. Two skin textures, two toned skin from a wide spectrum, and a glow. However, I do wish there were more options in some areas.

Faces – I personally prefer the more humanoid minimalist of face options, and from what I’ve seen a lot of other people use the exact same face. I’d like to see more Sylvari faces (for males at least) that use this same principle, a relatively human Face with some minimal plants features. For example, I love the slightly leafy eyebrows, cheekbones, and chin ‘beard’ on the current ‘minimalist face’)

Hair – here too I seem to have chosen the most popular option (males and females share this style). Mainly I like it because it, at a glance, looks more like real hair. I wouldn’t mind seeing hair like it was originally described (a plant simulation of real hair). But I also wouldn’t mind seeing some more plantish hair, like woven leaves.

I sorta feel guilty because I know the most of my feedback amounts to ‘give me a human with leaves stuck on’ and I don’t mean it that way. I love the current iteration of Sylvari, but Id like to see more variety of what is already there so that I don’t look like everyone else because the ‘miminalist’ plant look is so popular.

I added a pic of my Mesmer for reference. I love to show off the unique Sylvari form, but when it comes to the face/hair I try to minimize the plant aspect (Caithe was actually my inspiration, I went for a male version).

So Being 1-Shot is meant to be a Challenge?

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Dastion.3106

Dastion.3106

Being one-shot is the easy part. It’s NOT being one shot that is hard. If you look at action games acclaimed for their difficulty and challenge, you’ll notice the theme of needing to ‘learn the fight’ as the challenge because it gives players something to work on and overcome as a single player or team.

Dark Souls, Raids in other MMOs, MOBAs, they all encompass that aspect of not requiring simply someone ‘good at games’ but instead require you learn all of the aspects of the fight. It’s an area where GW2 was sadly lacking when released and it’s good to see a change in their direction.

The Halloween jumping puzzle is another key example of this. You didn’t make it on your first try, or even your fifth or tenth. It required you to learn as you went along and get better as you go. In Dark Souls you learn that an assassin is hiding in an area after he kills you and this you ‘progress’. It’s a style that I favor for the challenge and sense of accomplishment it offers.

That’s the entire point of the trait, it causes Cry of Frustration to scale with Power. Not that it’s very potent. It would be better if they did someing like:

Cry of Frustration: Inflicts Confusion & Torment.
-This skill is innately weak without Illusionary Retribution to DOUBLE it’s effectiveness, adding Torment fits the skill’s theme and makes it more competitive.

Confusing Cry: Remove it. Replace it with a trait that causes Diversion to inflict Weakness.

Illusionary Retribution (5pt Minor): Mind Wrack now inflicts Confusion and CoF grants Retaliation.
-Now the introductory Trait in the tree that focuses on Shattering is more synergistic. It makes Mind Wrack scale with Condition builds and makes CoF scale with power builds.

As a rule of thumb, the orrian truffle meat stew is not a good choice. You should be keeping vigor up permanently with the 5 point minor in dueling, and that caused the truffle meat stew to have no effect.

I used it because I make frequent uses of dodges during phase 1 in those situations when I can’t as easily ‘jitter step’ to dodge. Such as when I’m moving into position for a circle. It allows me to use dodges in step 1 and still have plenty of Endurance when Phase 2 starts since I’m not doing much attacking to trigger Vigor in phase 1. Once I’m in phase 2 and have gotten the kiting started that’s all I need, but being able to dodge her initial lunge and then dodge the circles again quickly without burning CDs really helps.

Also, something I should have mentioned, jitter stepping is when you quickly step back and forth (jitter back and forth). She tries to lead you with her attacks so by quickly changes directions (ie tap Q & E while otherwise standing still) she’s very unlikely to hit you.

-20/20/5/25/0 to maximize damage (though consider crippling dissipation if you’re having trouble kiting).
-Sword/Focus for Phase 1, the Warden buys you time and Sword has a nice spammable illusion, anything to keep her off you. Focus pull let’s you yank a shade into a circle.
-Greatsword for Phase 2. Really, just run in circles and spam her. Use Beserker and Mirror Blade just after the blasts to divert her. (#5 for killing orbs is an excellent tip btw).
-For utilities I used Decoy, Mantra Cleanse, and Blink. All skills that help me keep distance from her and remove her Weakness debuff (it’s important to avoid that).
-The Blasts are a 2.5s delay. Learn to time and dodge them.
-I like Take Root on my Sylvari, it lets you avoid a blast and if you’re swarmed it’ll cause Illusions to explode on you.

Also, get yourself some orrian truffle and meat stew, it grants endurance regen so you’ll be able to dodge more often.

You gotta know the rules if you wanna cheat. The OP should take a lesson from this and read over the various Runes, Sigils, and while he’s at it – class skills too.

Out of Combat Double Blink

It’s because of how their trait system works. Every skill modification except cool downs is a separate skill. That’s why Duelist’s Discipline Phantasm has 100% combo rate, it’s a totally different skill and phantasm. You used to be able to combine traits in such a way that Magic Bullet gained its old tooltip (Duelist’s Disc + Illusionary Elasticity).

Unfortunately, that’s also why I dread every time they change a skill because there is a good chance that the trailer version will be left untouched, or the Clone Version if its a #1 skill (Trident Clones have NEVER worked fully, they still do a minor heal instead of boons).

How would you change Confusion?

Simple.

-Drop Illusionist’s Celererity and adjust most (not all) Illusion skills to include the effect naturally. The way this profession is built makes such a trait very difficult to balance vs. what other traits offer.

-Replace it with: Recurring Visions: Increases the duration of confusion inflicted by you by 1s when an enemy triggers your confusion (2-3s CD). The cool down is so that the effect can’t be made to last forever or build upon itself, but short enough that you can expect 1-2 triggers from a stack. The numbers are just an example. It could just as easily be +2s on kitten CD, just so long as the bonus duration doesn’t benefit from condition duration armor (or if it does adjust the numbers suitably.)

I had the reflect bug happen to me once, what’s great is that it happened as I was downed. So I was downed but flurrying with her whip, which killed a shade (or maybe an orb, I was shocked) and rallied me.

Subject 7 is also extremely easy for Gambits, I’d say easier because you don’t need to worry about interrupts.

Drop a Warden on him and hide inside it’s protective bubble while you MH Sword attack him. After the first channel throw up Feedback to protect you while it recharges, by time the warden channels a second time you can summon a second and just take turns hiding in each.

The best Mesmer trick I’ve discovered for Liadri is hard to explain but I’ll try:

- You must be in one of the domes where the second circle spawns up against the wall (the only one I’m sure of that does that is the south most one).
- During the second circle (which should be up against a wall), stand between Liadri and the circle, but as close to the circle as you can without being in it. You can be a little to the side to avoid the blast that hits the circle, you just need to stand there so that the shade coming from the other side of Liadri will come relatively towards the second circle and so that the shade that is going to spawn near the third circle will run towards it.
3) As the second shade nears you, another should spawn across from you directly in the path of where the third circle will spawn. As the 3rd Shade hits where the circle will be, use your Focus to yank the second shade up against the wall into the second circle.
4). This will result in the second shade hitting the circle and spawning the third circle under the shade you’ve positioned, and all of the other shades are on a different side of the arena so you’re free to grab and throw both, getting you to stage 2 very quickly.

I haven’t done it yet, but I was considering 30 Inspiration to give myself plenty of consistent healing (restorative mantras and heal on shatter).

You could also look into how her shades act towards stealth. If they follow you still then a Prismatic Understanding build would give you a lot of survivability as you’re trying to collect the crystals.

That’s an extremely easy fight for any Mesmer with a Focus, I used the same tactic to kill him my first run through. Between Phantasmal Wardens and Feedback it’s impossible for his minions to do much damage to you so you can focus him down.
