It was like this at release too. Eternal and your home map has the longest wait. Start in one of the others, then when in, que home or eternal if that’s what you were aiming for. Still a long wait, but at least you can do something while you wait… after you wait.

Otherwise play more on weekdays or off hours. Friday starts the match and is usually loaded at peak.

Negative. There isn’t one other MMO that you have to wait like this. ANET needs to make multiple instances or figure something else out. The wait is ridiculous and ANYONE that apologizes for ANET is crazy. Simply make 2 instances of this map and be done with it. There should be minimal wait. Period. I cannot believe that players actually stand up for ANET in this matter. It’s crazy.

“simply”? I don’t see that working in any way, shape or form. I just do other things while I’m waiting, que as soon as I get in if that’s what I plan to do. Months there have hardly ever been a que, no reason to marginalize the whole system to a bunch of instances because some people want now-now-now gaming. These matches run for a whole week, a bunch of instances would just make it all a big joke… like spvp.

It is the Friday after the new patch which dealt directly with WvW. Give it time, today is the peak day for WvW for a lot of guilds. It will get better this weekend and next week.

Did they add some pointless carrot reward to get everyone upset about discovering que now or something? With the new shiny laurls carrot added to do spvp monthly, I would think wvw would be forgotten by many of the non-regulars there. Though I guess it’s been a few days so most laurels are already acquired..

What’s your beef with rangers? T_T

Well, it’s less about rangers and more about pets. And really when it comes down to it, thief is more ranger like than rangers. In other games, ranger is often my preferred class (rangers/assassins), but here, just no. If ANET would just let rangers drop the pets of mayhem (like in GW1), then rangers (the class, not personal) wouldn’t be so hated on I would think.

had one, deleted it.

edit: and come to think of it, one bow skill is horrible, almost used as a grief. Point Blank Shot. Somehow other classes can realize that using knockbacks at events isn’t a great idea, but rangers never fail to do huge knockbacks multiplied by every ranger there (literally like ping pong balls) so that melees never get a hit in. See a melee starting a long immobile attack animation? Yes, obviously time to send that mob off 50ft. I personally view it as a grief skill.
come on, teach me how to launch a 500lbs object 100ft back with my irl bow lol

Especially if they made the Top Hat wearable in combat

I have actually thought more than once about the option of wearing some article of town clothes in combat. I almost never wear a helm on my characters, but a set of aviator’s sunglasses would be the perfect touch for quality of life on the battlefield.

I must agree, that would better fit my steampunk themed (aviator style) engi, but settle for the eye optical thingy. But oh if we could only own crewable air ships /me crosses fingers for such an expansion.

But yes, for a mes in combat, tophat + staff + maybe a long tail tux would be quite stylish! Like a mad hatter

In a bad dungeon pug, revive is king. So obviously guard first and foremost (melee-cleric type builds). A good stealth built thief is the greatest EMT provided you revive on down rather than from death. If you have both in party, even better, as guard keeps melees up while thief can dart out to revive ranged on stealth.

…and not speaking of glass stealth thief. Thieves can remain efficient with some defense in my experience.

Twice of the same profession someone?

It’s not so much race at it is profession builds. If it’s about looks, then guard & warrior is the same aesthetically. Like I have a charr guard and norn warrior, but if the same race they could look identical for the most part. But within the classes there are different builds, which is why some may roll two of the same class, different builds. That includes different equipment stats and such. Of course you can respec the same character and just have more sets of equipment. But if you really like the class, I’d say lvl to 80, try respecing some, then if you like the two builds then roll another of the same class. Guard you will probably want at least two sets of equipment each build anyway, each having a use for zerker gear that you can use to test the builds with one character to start.

As for myself, I was tempted to roll second classes, either guard or thief, but I figured I can always respec using the 2g (it’s nothing) and re-gear (I have most of the crafts mastered), but went with rolling 5 classes now all 80’s.

A ranger lives in the woods, and uses it while for tarzan it is its home.

It’s probably better said, ranger spends all his time at the pet hospital, watching his pets twitch and shake…
Rangers would do a lot better… at least catch up to other classes if they could just turn pet off. But they cant.

In a lot of ways, thief is a ranger here, probably more ranger than rangers. Did Legolas (or Aragorn) tow around a wild and hopeless pig? No, he used a bow, melee weapons and moved around swift and unnoticed. In GW2 that’s thief.

ranger or thief?

in Players Helping Players

Daywolf.2630

It all comes down to this.
Daggers, Shortbows, and swords OR
Swords, Greatsword, Longbow, and short bow?

Hooded masks, or Arrow Quivers.

Pet companion, or Stealth?

Start picking at those, see which class you come up with/ want to go for.

You forgot pistols and swords. Some combinations in there. I prefer D/D + shortbow myself, in a stealth build with some better than squishy defense. It’s actually more like ranger than ranger is tbh. Then you have pets too, well minions, then they go away when you don’t want them any longer. But if timed right, you can have four minions out at once… though I only use elite slot minions and use the other skill slot for another stealth trigger

Now ranger has GS which I liked, but you just couldn’t shew away the pet. In gw1, I had ranger, pet was replaced with necro minions nec/rng. Here you are forced to use them, triggers when you are hit/ or hit… I don;t recall now since I deleted my ranger. But pet on ~all the time, and groups suffering for it. This game needs an arcane archer imo, good class. No pure archers though even though there are npc archers.

Anyway, don’t worry about stealth early on, push for dps and defense/armor for faster leveling. Shortbow is nice for early-mid lvling. I still use it a lot for farming and building quick stacks. Also really nice for wvw in major skirmishes standing right behind the front line and dodging a lot for stealth effect (racks up kills).

Kicking for no reason should be banable for at least 7 days, maybe some ppl grow and take a lesson to not kick anyone but bc “i dont like him”. I always starting the dungeon to make myself save from kick when i meet some dogb in group that thinks he knows better than i does.

In other words, make ANET the thought police?
Then it’s like, every person that gets kicked for any reason files a petition to the GM service in hopes of a ban …as if there were that many GM’s. Then what, GM’s investigate by reviewing chat logs or something? No logs, no video, need to conduct investigations by guesstimattion. Call the psychic network, maybe?

Ode to the olden days when I’d pull out my cleric and my friends list would light up asking if I’ll be leading any dungeon runs. Beats a system of party anarchy as exists here (leader is basically first person that dashes in). But at least I still have a friends list.

edit: reminds me, what’s really fun is when you build a pug for exp and one person decided to dash in and start a SM! Weeeeee! hah. Banned for 7 days after kicking them? then needing to reform the group again …and add an ignore to list

Daywolf.2630

No, it’s not like some other games. Hunting juveniles you load a webpage guide/image, go to location, acquire juvenile. Juvenile really means nothing, not like raise and train etc. As for ranger, they are hated. Pets are nasty in groups. Poor game mechanics. I usually favor rangers in most games, but far from it here.

Thief is good, though having some nerf troubles atm. Why fix bugs when you can drop the big nerf hammer? A few days ago, thief could participate in any part of the game. I guess time will tell if that has changed. Even so, clear choice is thief over ranger.

Otherwise, warrior, guardian or mesmer, especially if you want to do dungeons. Thief can easily be fourth choice of dungeon groups.

You say that until the day your not leader and 2 people either leave the group before you get your chest or daily bonus from FotM and you miss out on them completely.

Happened to me just recently. 2 people in the same guild got their reward and then closed the FotM making it so the other 3 people didn’t get anything.

I don’t think it would change anything. I’m all for dictatorship in groups, but if one leaves then another becomes leader. If someone is still in the dungeon, than it should still keep running. Same as some other games. In fact I recall CoH (another NCsoft game) if you kicked someone from your group, they would still be in the instance. Of course that’s too messy for a number of reasons.

-Unless necessary, its unnecessary to speak in a PUG at all.

I always use chat in a dungeon pug. But then I usually run my guard in dungeons and it’s not usual for people to be anticipating weather or not they may need to kick the guard at some point later in the run (unlike ranger hehe).

But usually, especially in AC, I want to know if anyone is on first run or still new to it, and what the melees are set up as, general, so I can adjust traits and equipment accordingly. Of course by the time we reach the spider queen, I let people know I don’t range at all, and usually the quiet one is first to abruptly jump in and trigger the queen resulting in their own dirt nap before the flaming heads are even cleared. Laugh it off etc, rinse and repeat.

Wow, I could probably whip all these up on my modeling app in a day along with textures and shaders. ANET must have made at least $200k in gem sales in one day with people gambling for them (maybe first hour!).

Ah well, I like the shield and mace but I’m not gambling for them. I’ve bought gems with plastic in the past, but I think I’m going to stop doing that, I don’t want to get drawn into gambling. I’ve never had gambling problems, but I’ve had friends and family that have and it’s truly ugly. Of course if I sink gold into exchange and then always broke, the game will be less fun and I’ll go elsewhere.

mace skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Daywolf.2630

Daywolf.2630

hmmm… I have one character that uses mace/shield and I like the light mace skin. It’s from lvl 55 main story, the same as the Seraph mace – white with four blades. I use it on my Charr guardian, white fur, red/orange T2 armor with blood legion shield skin. Mace is right size and looks just great for the blood legion themed set. Some maces look good, but yes many are poor. But same holds true for other things as well, like male armor.

Art direction seems to be going for a rather unique look, but in some cases it just doesn’t work. However, no thanks for huge 1h maces, otherwise it’s a hammer, and yet still should be smaller than a ‘great’ sword. Some of those great swords look a little bit too cartoony as it is, I didn’t like wow and don’t want to be reminded of it.

Well I don’t feel bad for thieves, I’m still going to play mine. My thief has been the do-all choice, but just maybe more limited now. Do-all as in play in any part of the game, not tank or buff and such, though I don’t run with a glass dps build. Still 10x less annoying than ranger. Just more time on guardian now it’s becoming.

Anyone else feel bad for other classes?

in Guardian

Posted by: Daywolf.2630

Daywolf.2630

The class I’m feeling most sorry about personally is the ranger. I really would like to level one but it just feels futile with their constant nerfing. The recent quickness nerf hit rangers BAD and shattered my wish to make a berserker ranger with short/longbow. Their only viable build is the trap ranger and I do not like that kind of play-style.

Yeah, anet didn’t really think it thru for rangers, it’s just a bad-bad class. I usually like/play rangers in most mmo’s (eq1, lotro, eq2 etc.) and TES ranger/archer – assassins are the best to play. But here… meh, worse than meh. I rolled one here, deleted at mid-lvl, never looked back, rolled a warrior in it’s slot. Now if they re-vamped it to a good arcane archer system or build (and no pet nor push backs – use root/pin), this would possibly get me to add a sixth slot. Such as DDO, NWN, PnP games, Arcane archer is a very good class, hard to mess it up. But as far as ranger goes here, I’m apprehensive when one filters into my PuG… and often feel very annoyed at meta events. Delete, roll a guard, be happy

nerfs to classes that didn’t need one (or they never fixed the real problem) I cringe.

Like, nerfing around the OP broken parts, yes. I don’t cringe, I just scratch my head. After all, it’s not as bad as SWG (nge) got Maybe fix what is broken and leave what works… alone? I’ve seen it all though.

Can’t say I have a main, or an alt. Each character is tailored for a purpose. But my dungeon running guard is one of two I play often out of five. Guard mostly works, here’s to anet forgetting about them
Let them “fix” ranger so it still has a purpose …keeping devs busy at least.

Should T3 Cultural Armor be exotic?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Daywolf.2630

Daywolf.2630

Yeah, I nearly have all the crafts done, and I’ve spent maybe 5g (that tough tier near the end ~300). I’ve sold single exotics for more. It’s just a matter of doing dailies, not selling it all off, keep collecting, grab ingots when you run by a node etc. Free! All free for the taking. No cost to you. Free armor sets, practically falling from the trees

Or… speed run CoF, sell your loot and buy armor from me off trade, I have plenty there right now (if on my server). It’s like what 24g a set? Yet T3 is 120g + 4-8g for transmute stones? After all, cultural says: I transmuted the right exotics onto this crummy skin rather than the simple three choices from dungeon vendors that probably have the wrong stats and will get the party to wipe

Should T3 Cultural Armor be exotic?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Daywolf.2630

Daywolf.2630

You can pay some 120g for a set but get upset at exchanging like 4g for transmutation stones??
As for also buying exotic armor, shouldn’t you already have some you can transmute, and if not, need to buy or make some anyway? Everyone should have at least two sets of exotic armor anyway, and maybe three for melees.
I don’t know, doesn’t bother me. But then I have only bought a couple sets of T2 and mastered all the armor crafts. I’d buy T3, but in most cases T2 looks better. I’d petition for better T3 armor tbh..

What? cost of making armor? You gather it. Free!!
And yes, I’ve gotten the stones from main story, and still very cheap to exchange and buy. Make one extra exotic (for free!!) and sell it to buy gems. If you are short one, make one more exotic, sell and exchange, four left for weapons! win-win
I bought 25 from the recent sale (for 5 lvl 80’s, though may need to buy more)

But up to 80? no offense intended… but who cares? Most are easy enough to lvl up… well apart from engi with a cooking career lol and all still remain fun to level up. But eventually leveling up will just be an old faded memory, like high school.

Wake up and smell the skunk in the neighbors yard, the grass is less green where you pee… er or whatever. But there is life beyond 80, and… what… is… “max character out”?? You probably don’t even have all the right crafting professions on one char to make the legendaries you need, which add nothing but a pretty skin. My characters can have one set of ascended, or many sets of exotics and swap out as needed. Yet all will eventually have ascendeds, I’m not off to college tomorrow

But hey, play the game your way, more power to you
+1 if you deleted a ranger

But to add, I can’t play with just one character. But being a solo player you probably won’t miss the rest of the game that requires more? I dig that I can solo vets, champs and the boss with my guard, but then I didn’t make a guard to solo and hardly do. Then the only class build that I can do everything with is my d/d stealth thief, but then that too would become boring in time if not picking up my other specialized characters. I guess it’s all just a different point of view. Lukz

In PvE, I prefer to DPS or Tank (I know there’s no real roles). I would support if it was in an interesting way, or if the profession could be a mix of putting out damage on enemies while assisting allies.

In PvP, I like roaming, I like getting kills, but I like being durable. So professions that don’t have to build glass cannon to be effective in sPvP / WvW would be nice.

Yeah I don’t build glass cannons. I work out the best balance I can. So even my thief, it’s not down every minute It’s a d/d stealth thief and secondary short bow. Yeah, gotta spam the bow often, but when the daggers flip out it’s like art. Great EMT too, I can usually keep everyone up in most pve situations, though I can do that better with my guard but he’s usually stuck on the boss so it benefits melee’s more.

Thief in WvW is often pick your battle and avoid anything you don’t like, even roaming mobs of 30+ you pass right thru them and ditch over a hill or down a ledge. Though turn off commander so followers don’t blow your cover if scouting turn back on when you are ready to bring in others to take down that 30+ vader group you found.

Engineer is my least played. I’ve only tried it in sPvP but I feel like it’s a class I would need to level to get the hang of.

Engi was my first 80. Half leveled on WvW. I’ve since turned him into a grenadier, not bad at all for meta events and still quite good for defending keeps.

For some reason even tho Im wearing Knight’s Armor and have full defense build, I still get squashed when in AC ( Story Mode ) or even when questing and there are more than 3 mobs on me. this is another reason I’m burned out on Warrior.

3+ mobs and loosing health? That’s usually when I bust out the hammer and start doing mad swings as I run circles around them lol

Though I do AC with my guard most of the time, my most re-used tip I spam again and again is “KEEP MOVING!” —apart from locking down a boss if we can stand still. I haven’t done AC CM since that patch, heard it’s harder, but should still be same principle. I know AC exp revamp made me move even more.

Oh and most that speed run (often CoF) are not doing it with a tanky warrior, it’s about dps.

hah! that reminds me when I first started using a hammer and figured about thr running in circles thing. I started doing that mete in hinterlands or whatever the zone is called. After the chain was done and everyone left, I went into that tent near by that after 10 or so minutes starts spawning tons of mobs that walk off to guard the chest area. I went in there and lasted until the next meta event came back lol, must have had 100’s of corpses piled up and all my bags full. My warrior started at two levels under the mobs. Hammer can be quite handy

Profession choice for all around play?

I started playing when the game was first released but haven’t touched it in a few months. I am going to start playing again but I want to focus on one profession for all areas of the game, WvW, sPvP, PvE, and questing.

Out of Warriors, Elementalists, Thiefs, Guardians, and Engineers, which profession is useful and wanted by guilds in all aspects of the game?

Dungeons too, or not? Guilds take anyone, groups are picky.
Since you said wvw/spvp that eliminates warrior.
engi and ele’s are low on the dungeon list.
Bottom line I’d say guard or thief from your choices, and mesmer not on your list.
Dungeons I think are warriors, guardians, mesmers then [good] thieves. WvW they do well too apart from warrior. Open world each has a run boost though thief is perma speed. Overall, my pic is thief among the three (or four) for the do-it-all class.

However, the game isn’t all game mechanics, so one can be bad with a good class, or be good with a bad class.
