Warrior or Guardian ?

1. Forget main vs alts. I have both warrior and guard at 80, I like them both.
2. They are different classes with little comparison to make one over the other apart from pvp.
3. They mainly compare in that they are both easy to level.
4. Both are worth having, play both classes.

A: This isn’t wow or eq?

Actually none of my characters look ‘high fantasy’ even. Well maybe my Charr guardian in a way, but still unique. Even my norn warrior has more of a futuristic sci-fi look. You just want to equip your elf with one of those new super adventure box shields, don’t ya?!?! What this game needs are LASERS!
edit: oh wait, my mesmer has a GS laser…

Q: What do you feel is an effective counter towards Shortbow Theives?
Seems to be quite a slippery weapon set for Thieves!

That’s for sure. I have six and plan to add more, my fallback weapon after D/D’s. With good power, accuracy and CD they can be pretty effective, but really only against groups standing/moving close together. When it comes 1v1 or 1v2 I don’t find it a viable weapon, maybe apart from my purity bow.

You will have more problems with a ranger or even a rifle warrior if your grou kitten paced out some (whats up with the filter?) if… your… group… is… spaced… out… some. I use a bow quite often in wvw, but mostly I am looking for clumps of targets, like on the edges of zergs. Other than that, fighting zergs and removing conditions on the fly, it effective against finding the real mesmer.

A: Don’t clump up in big groups.

But thiefs can maintain perma stealth…

(lol filter changed your name to kitten…)
I hear some say they do since the patch. I haven’t tested it myself as I have no need for perma-stealth and haven’t been able to perma-stealth on my build. I focus on quick accurate damage bursts with lingering CD, initiative gain from stealthing often, and modest evasion (no extra stealth run speed seems needed). But there may be a build that can do it, I wouldn’t be surprised, although may not benefit extra damage or be too fragile.

Whenever I salvage (usually save up 25-30), I always have more ectos than items, even using master salv. Last batch I salvaged 30 and received 40 + runes/sigils and mats. If the rare is worth ~50 then it may be worth selling.

Q. My zerker profession can’t seem to kill this thief guy in pvp. What am I supposed to do?A. Not build Zerker.

which is why they cry for nerfs.

A: use an AOE weapon/skill. Many silly people build glass thieves (not me), and they cant hide from AOE’s. Yeah they are doing high damage on you, those builds, but have no defense, so you clunk them with your hammer or something, they run away. GS or something? forget it, you’ll get 0 on them. Really, better answer would be to just not solo or lag behind zergs, safety in numbers. Wolves of the battlefield.

I mostly thief in wvw, and engi alt there. I’ll confirm what you said, warriors tend to run away from thieves. I also have a warrior, and yes I’d consider a hammer build. That would mean at least 20 into toughness and that hammer AOE dropping, with both making a more difficult target for thief melee. At least it would give you the ability to last longer until you have backup show up… or he tires and gives up

And no, people aren’t getting upset because Anet ‘did a tribute Jump Puzzle, etc’, they are upset because the resources devoted to making the ‘Jump Puzzle platform event’ could have been better spent sorting out the many issues in the game or concentrating resources on, say, a new map for wvw, changing wvw maps, sorting out the many issues wvw has, etc etc – but instead they spent those resources coming out with something kitten.

Oh that happens in every game. They are just in different department groups/teams. Some groups are committed to crushing bugs, others to adding new content for x, y or z parts of the game. Obviously one team just did a lot of work on WvW, and a totally different team did the tribute thing at the same time. I’m sure it’s the same team that did wintersday and the the other events like that. The living story most likely has a team that doesn’t touch WvW, bug crushing nor special events.

So basically you guys want special events ended once and for all? I think most people like them… I do. And cutting it would end art department jubs, and too many cooks in the kitchen with programmers working out game area specific bugs no doubt. In the end, updates would probably be less.

You mean /lfg ? Yeah, I use it often. I turn it on when I’m standing in front of a dungeon and I turn it on in Orr at shelter etc. I turned it on last night at shelter to no success, then realized no one was grouped lol. So just started adding members.

But anyway, people at Orr usually know what the blue glass next to the name means. If I use it at like AC, someone could be spamming LFM and I’ll be standing right in front of them with a decked out lvl 80 and they wont realize until I say lfg ac exp etc.

So you are irked because you got robbed of your trading card mini-game? Maybe it’s you that should quit (taking your own advice) and find a game with a trading card mini-game? Seems more logical…
For the rest that don’t like it, they seem just fine to pass it by and play the game. I haven’t played it yet, I see no detriment to my game surroundings. In fact much improvement, especially in wvw.

There, fixed. Happy?

What sales, sales. Just the way things are. There is a wide audience for 8-bit art, a lot of people like it, including people that like GW2. You act like GW2 is all about 8-bit now and you are being robbed of your gameplay. It’s just a mini-game, something many mmo’s have been doing for decades. I’d rather see something like this as a mini-game rather than a dumb trading card game. And still, this is for only a month, then it’s gone. I’m not going to stop playing GW2 to go play 8-bit games just because you are irked about a mini-game here, don’t be silly.

No, I can’t say “I know” this for a certainty, but given any typical company such as Anet, it would be absurd to think or believe that they don’t have different teams dedicated to certain projects.

That’s standard, yes. Indies, more focused on centralized development in most cases, but AAA companies are compartmentalized and having the resources to do so.

Either that or the developers are that age, which is common. Meanwhile 8-bit games are very popular on android devices right now, remakes and totally new games, friggen fun stuff. But 8-bit has it’s own form of art, it’s appealing to many as well as to developer-artists.

I rolled my 5th last month (to 80), norn warrior, almost felt the zones were over populated… especially with the frozen maw event lol

since level 80s will just steamroll the easiest veterans, and not care one iota about helping new characters with them.

rangers… hehehe
Point blank… what was that in quake 3? oh yeah, “Denied!”.
They should really replace that with a root and scoot. Pin your target and then leap back like the thief does. Had rangers denying my warrior, hated it, used like a grief. But yeah, too many 80’s going for easy-easy kills to do dailes imo, then just stepping on players that have no choice but to be there (lowbies).

Well at least a good point about it, rather than slapping in some tool/form from a generic systems used in everyday mmo’s, it can be designed to tailor fit to what is needed in GW2 by practice and not just some abstract idea before the game had any population during initial development.

In other words, now that the game is live, and more fleshed out, it’s easier to realize what would be needed in an lfg tool that would best fit the game in practice rather than from theory.

Solo or in groups? Grouping is faster, more loot drops and faster XP. Sell most loot on trading post, apart from items 1 or 2c above what an npc would give you for it. Dungeons will about give you fastest XP, such as AC and CoF + tokens to get lvl 80 armor when you finish leveling. Also having a crafting profession will give you 10 levels each, as well as keep some of your gear current which helps a lot. Crafting is harder on first char, but you usually have some mats saved up for second character. If you do, just don’t pick cooking first just buy food until then. I did cooking first… argh!

I even saw a thief warrior duo, before I dropped the thief the warrior was already too far off to chase… lol …retreating from an attempted siege and me the only defender. Main thing I noticed is just harder cutting thru the armor, but they were just having a hard time landing blows apart from rifle shots. However, I’m reading warriors gaining ranks pretty well, so they must be fighting something and winning. But still not seeing many of them, and hardly a banner to be seen. Enginer Un-balanced

in Engineer

Posted by: Daywolf.2630

Daywolf.2630

I think that, the enginer is very unbalanced i think that the enginer in pvp doesn’t deal any damage and, is most overpowered by other classes

I’d say true of most builds. I leveled my engi 50% from wvw, and mostly with rifle/turret hehe. But that was back in like oct-nov. I still prefer to sling a rifle/shotgun for 1v1 in wvw (yes only one sigil), but have been kit grenadier since December.

At least in that, I wouldn’t say “doesn’t deal any damage”. Yes provided you need to do a lot of nading, but in tower attack and defense it works very well including using the function skill. And on attack, you can take out oil pots, cannons and stuff like that quicker than any other as well as CD the wall vaders and make them run. Fair amount of kills.

wow lots of trolling here in engi forum. sad-sad.

If you look at class runes, like rune of the mesmer, rune of the engi etc, it shows that they are already applied to your class without using the physical runes. If you bother to use a set, where it shows how many you are equipped with (e.g. 6/6 by default) it turns red and shows 12/6 if you do equip one set. Now if I were somehow using two physical sets, Id be saying 18/6 which I’m sure doesn’t fit nor stacks. Engi with 6 engi runes = 12/6. Get it? And, shows as red btw, but still seems to work.

Good cigars, really. Maybe it’s just my server, but I don’t see a lot of warriors in wvw compared to other classes. Although if I were to take my warrior in, I’d do as the above poster suggested and use hammer for sure (and rifle). GS is too stationary in most cases. Even in pve I prefer to use hammer often. Yes groups in wvw, but even in groups you tend to get a little separated and need to more or less 1v1. In any case, wvw is more doable than spvp, but I’d highly rather take my guard in.

Maybe ANET should make an alternate way for commander rank, such as through the new ranking system. Rank to it or buy. But just account wide would be fine.

Why do most players not respond to whispers?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Daywolf.2630

Daywolf.2630

No, it’s not the community, they’re normal. It’s spamming to joining a guild that’s the problem. That can be unimaginative and annoying in chat etc. How about invite players to guild events? Don’t push them to join, they will ask YOU if they can join. Works 1000% better.

Edit after reading following post: Apart from people w/o guild tags, asking them to join is np imo, especially in LA or newbie areas. If I drop my tag it’s because I’m looking for a guild, or want to add a guild onto that character (not for every character). But spamming in chat can be annoying to many people, and whispering to someone with a tag seems rude. In fact I’ve done that before, un-rep my personal tag to join a guild, but I didn’t join another guild until I was in their group doing what I wanted to do with a new guild (wvw in that case). World spamming is best left to the first month or two after launch.

It’s far easier to cap one first here, then work on the next. Took twice as long to lvl the first compared to the second, mostly because I gathered for crafting and saved up a little gold to make a second character level much faster. Yet still, my first roll was a ranger, but by mid-lvl I started working on a different character and leveled that first. Wound up deleting the ranger.

you’re about..a day late. Like I said, I am over it and have learned my lesson. Reading these forums just gives me a heartache sometimes…

Well I wouldn’t have kicked you… you didn’t say you were playing a ranger, right? j/k.
I’ve gotten into stupid talk with other players, I don’t care. Like one guy wanted to just flame me early this month, for 30 min after a dungeon, because I wasn’t putting out a lot of dps in a CoF pug that wasn’t doing a speed run to start (he was a rng btw). Like uh-duh, guardian pfff.

Even wanted to see equipment lol (multiple exotic sets). Actually I do ok dps with my guard, just was running in melee-cleric mode when the melees were having a hard time staying up on boss. I don’t think we would have finished the dungeon if I didn’t, and no one was agreeing with him. But I know sometimes people miss the big picture and snap if having maybe a bad day or whatever. I wound up in another party with him, I was in dps mode, he had nothing to complain about, and yet again a completed dungeon.

Anyway I don’t think it’s a big deal either way, maybe just handled wrong. GW2 hasn’t been king of the bad PuG’s for me, like early CoH was the worst I’ve seen. But yeah, I’m no fan of the voting system as I mentioned, I’d rather see a true leader with all the power. At least then I can remember good leaders and overlook the bad ones.

Yeah “carrot”, when you string a reward/carrot to a ~fishing pole and lure players/bunnies to your trap… or unused game area. To draw people in by reward, like laurel farming in spvp etc. Many mmo’s have done it for years.

Anyhoot, ran the que around mid-late peak. OMG the wait, 5 minutes..
But, nothing special. No real carrots. Just some increase against npc’s, defense and damage, and siege weapon type modifiers. Took my grenade kit engi, 20 kills – 2 losses, got somewhere thru rank two. Was still a bit slow in high congested battles, mainly in garrison… which accounted for one of my losses as climbing up the stairs after taking the door down I dropped to like 0.2fps lol (yes 5-sec a frame). But otherwise was a bit smoother when not standing in a structure with 250 other players in front of me and all popping of big AOE’s. Probably take my thief commander in this weekend.

But glad they didn’t use any real carrots, and no for it being over populated especially on a Friday. It’s all working just fine.

You are lucky that Rangers are choosing to continue playing this game by rolling another character class. Its far too much kindness as I would have left to a game that actually supports their playstyle.

Yeah I rolled one on first slot, launch day. Deleted it maybe six weeks ago, rolled a warrior for the slot and lvled to 80 (5/5). I like bow combat, but I don’t like having broken pets forced on me. Other classes can use bows, and seems like thief is more ranger like than rangers. My first 80 was an engi, my second a thief. After thief, I just found no real reason to keep lvling my ranger which had already been badly nerfed back then even.
