Well like some said, “more manly effects” often get applied to female characters and women get over it … so I don’t see why the reverse shouldn’t be applied aswell.
It’s actually refreshing to have a class that isn’t gender locked that is on a more feminine side of the spectrum.
If he can’t deal with it it’s because he has a lack of confidence in his manhood and perhaps even a slight latent machist attitude that thinks feminity is something bad.
Male energy is ok for women but feminine energy is not for men ?
I know this is strongly due to cultural bias but that’s exactly why it shouldn’t be changed.
Learn to embrace it and if he can’t it’s still a nice experience for him to end up playing a female toon for a change.

I reckon butterflies get associated with females in many cultures because perhaps butterflies are flashy and colourful and have a certain refined aesthetic that generally the women in our society possess more than men.
A bit like peakittens and other colourful birds which per se aren’t the first animals one would associate with typical in your face attributes seen as manly in humans in the traditional sense. The way they look is more in tune with the image of the “idealised” female than the “idealised” male

I was really looking forward to this armour. But then again … I was also looking forward to many towns clothes as light armour … /sigh …

Well like someone mentioned… Ratasum really has everything compacted in a convenient manner.
In an old interview which I won’t bother looking for, they did mention that in an older iteration of the mesmer that phantasms weren’t copies of the player avatar but rather had their own unique look. (I’m pretty sure Vassar’s phantasms in AC are a remnant of that)
The torch used to have a phantasm which if I recall was called backfire and it did attack the enemy when he attacked which in a sense was an interesting emulation of the Gw 1 skill.
But then they decided to go with the current version we have of phantasms for the sake of keeping it simple, making them essentially look like pinkish player clones using other profession skills, somewhat.
Mechanics aside I really would have loved for our phantasms to have an unique look, different from our clones.

Yeah same here … the bugged weapon skills are a real pain ( I’m especially looking at you iLeap)
Also as far as I know in the current spvp meta absolutely no one from 80 people used a mesmer in the last Tourney.

I would love to see it turned into that swap skill they displayed on the mesmer Staff skill video where you trade places with your foe.
Looks allright, but I’m really not fond of the male version on humans and sylvari, it looks awkward in shape and design. Large and too short sleeves not really working with the bare torso and the skirt is too high up etc.
Also the shoulders are too big for my taste.
That said it’s more a problem about the feathered armour.
It’s like one of the very VERY rare male light armour sets that shows any amount of skin and yet it manages to have almost 0 sex appeal as far as I am concerned.

Hearts aside which makes it harder to match on characters the designs look actually really stunning and to my taste.
I need some of these for my mesmer at some point, and maybe one or the other for my salads aswell.

I really wanted to hate ascended armour because of the cost involved … but unfortunately for me I really like the skins … the light armour(minus the shoulders) would really fit on my mesmer too … oh well …
Eitherway they do stand out design-wise from the other armours.

Caithe literally falling into nightmare would be a bit of a shame though as she is one of the few likable characters around.
Now teaming up and being oh so lsightly tempted by Faolain of course makes it interesting and even sense.
This is somewhat disapointing in the sense that I was hoping to be able to dye my weapons someday and now I am not sure at all if that will ever happen.
You know cause it’s not always easy to make skins match with your armours. Yes I can redye the armour to match the weapon skin but then it might not fit my character anymore and it’s just annoying and drives me into some sort of OCD dying my armour over and over till I’m frustrated and in the end I simply don’t end up using certain weapon skins simply because the colour doesn’t work out which is a shame.

The thing with Scarlet is … she really does have a good voice actress and that makes her really likable to me. She sounds fun really.
Yes she really has little depth but other majour villains had neither depth nor personality and also very little screening time either, which did not help at all.
Only villains I really recall are Kudu and Faolain … they had atleast an ounce of charisma but way too little screentime so you don’t get the chance to care enough.
Also they really need to implement more of the lore IG somehow… it does make a hell of a difference.

I’m actually looking forward to see everyone falling off the tower again. That’s what actually made it fun in the first place too … there being so many people and you see them all dropping down. It just made me laugh. And for your information I was myself pretty bad at it too.
It just wouldn’t be the same if it was a single instance or even only a party instance.
Now now scaling everyone to the same size I would not mind though.
Yes please cause as they are now it’s completely braindead and boring. They don’t have to be as hardcore as Tequatl but they could definitely make the fight more dynamic.
This event even if perhaps a tad too hard ( too much HP) is much more fun to do now ! It’s definitely a step i nthe right direction because it was really braindead before. I had fun jumping over the waves XD … and it was hilarious when the tidal wave came and wiped almost everyone.
What? Annoying ?! I’ve had quite my share of fun with it ! ( and some frustration from time to time XD)

Well the concept art cinematics are indeed still the best … especially if they are executed like the presentation of the orders mixed with IG character models with appropriate animations.
I’m gonna sound nitpicky but even though I welcome the new cutscenes immersion I thought the action and dialogues were filmed way too far from the characters and it looked more like a panoramic presentation of the location rather so I still felt disconnected to the characters and action.
It needs closer shots of the characters from time to time and more varied camera angles to bring it more to life ( a bit more like in Eye of the North).
Also some of the animations from the older cutscenes could still be used to make the characters feel more alive while talking from time to time.
Eitherway looking forward to how it will evolve.

I really loved Braham’s concept art … but really dislike his IG model.
His face … looks kind of silly… I don’t know how else to put it.
It’s like they tried to give him actually appealing traits, cool haircut , pouty lips etc. but somehow missed the mark and he just looks weird.
On the other hand his armour is kind of cool and his mace/shield is awesome.

I have to say after seeing her IG she really doesn’t look bad at all.
They did nail the cutesy charr look.
Problem is Rox’s appearance seems to clash allot with her personality, so it feels awkward.
Her voice sounds way too mature and serious to go along with that happy cat face.
Also the eyes could still be a tad smaller or a bit more closed.
Otherwise I do like the design and even the character overall so far.

Small pink fleshlings…. that one made me laugh so hard the first time XD …
The missions with Cai were actually pretty amusing.
The scepter is so slow I feel like if I want to use it’s full capabilities it’s better to use 2 offhands with only the scepter as the mainhand weapon or the autoattack chain rarely even completes.
I dunnou it’s not a very fun weapon to use as it is.
Counter Blade and Counter Spell surely could use some love and rework that’s for sure, not to mention they look and their audio sounds lame too.
If I wanted to stray from Ventari’s teachings for whatever reason and especially the dream I would definitely become soundless.
Even though I reckon it should be possible to stay connected to the Dream and still follow your own path eitherway.
The nightmare court as interesting as they are (one of the better evil factions imo) are still completely unreasonable.
Their attitude towards everything is just manipulative and their reasons overly convenient to excuse their extremist and twisted ways.
The teachings and the dream are just a cheap excuse they use to blame anything but themselves to act like conniving psychopaths with no boundaries.
Seriousness put aside it would be interesting to play as one though !
I still don’t support their ideology at all though.
I do like their passion and strong emotions though… but other sylvari have them too.

As much as he is disliked his face looks actually pretty cool.
But maybe adding more faces overall in the future might be enough.
Asura have some cool animations as a Ranger imo !
Just not so fond of the axe ones especially the whirl.
If they give the mesmer a mainhand pistol then they should make it a melee weapon like in equilibrium ( which would look pretty kitten too) because just shooting more bullets doesn’t sound that exciting with all the ranged options we already got… unless the skills have some really cool mechanics to them.
Personally a rework on the scepter would be most welcome aswell … the weapon is incredibly sluggish overall … the 3 skills take way too much time to execute making it rather unexciting to use.
Atleast speed the auto-attack up and the counter on skill 2 and spaking of the counter … that one really needs a completely new animation … it just looks silly as it is now… not like a counter … have the mesmer and it’s clone perform a cool looking counter on the target as soon as it triggers.( same goes for offhand sword skill 4)
A weapon with combat skills that have more movement would be nice too and one with more control be it on the enemy, area or both.
Maybe they can introduce entirely new mechanics progressively.
Personally I still like the idea of using daggers if it has atleast the more speedy feel like on other classes.

I’m personally really enjoying the winterday event so far … the mini games are loads of fun ! the winter themed music is awesome and I love the outfits ( just wish it was regular armour) and Bell focus ;3

I love the outfits especially the male one ( female version went a bit overboard with the snowflake motif for my taste)
I just wish it was regular light armour … it looks like mesmer armour in a GW 1 fashion.
T2 racial for males is one of the most awesome armours i nthe game IMO.

My sylvari is an ele but as someone said I can imagine it being extra awesome on a mesmer … the phantasms would look sweet.
I’m in favour of this especially because phantasms as they are now are boring to use anyway.
This would definitely make the gameplay also much more interestign than just summoning a minion that does it’s own thing.
Yeah the cry emote on male sylvari is really awkward… no sound at all and they keep restarting the animation from the beginning.
Yeah I gotta say I really enjoy her voice ! She sounds somewhat genuine and adorable.
Really distinctive too.
Yes I’ll give them one and even two even though my concerns aren’t alleviated and I doubt they will be for a while.
The game is still good even though it’s far from perfect don’t get me wrong but it gives me hot and cold vibes at the same time if that makes any sense.
As things are at the moment though it doesn’t compel me to advertise it as a groundbreaking mmo to other people because it isn’t and most importantly because it still needs to get polished ALLOT ( not to mention dynamic events that set it somewhat appart are barely happening lately ).
Either way for now I am content here as the game looks gorgeous, I love my characters, would miss my GW 1 mates and guildies and combat is somewhat fun and has potential but I can’t promise another game might snatch me away at some point as I am not completely satisfied with my experience yet.

I wouldn’t mind a costume maker npc at some point though like in GW cause the fact they take away space could be annoying.

Yeah had a few issues myself aswell where I would teleport under the ground and land in water even though there was no water around and end up stuck below with no way to get out than to waypoint.
Utility skills are still available I think ?
Well the shatter mechanic is certainly more interesting then just having your phantasm’s out 24/7 doing their own thing.
Only shatter that bugs me is Diversion because it doesn’t scale with clones unless they are placed at perfect distances which is not always feasable on certain weapon sets and quite clumsy.
It would be nice if it would give another effect atleast based on number of clones.
1 clone = daze
2 clones = daze + cripple
3 clones = daze + chill
3 clones+ IP = daze + immobilize or Stun
Just an idea.
I guess a vulnerability bonus would work too with the diversion theme since you are more vulnerable while distracted.
Also more unique control abilities would be allot of fun aswell !

To me he sounds allright in neutral situations … but when things get heated up and serious he just seems to get even more neutral and robot-like which is ackward.
He sounds indeed reserved and that’s in character I guess ?
But he sounds quite unsensitive to me especially when certain npc die.
He doesn’t seem to care at all … and his consolation words have no emotion whatsoever as if he just says that cause it’s socially desirable.
Also the fact he hasn’t much lines to dwell on the sacrifices doesn’t help either even though that’s not the issue here.
I like sensible guys but he just doesn’t really sound like one.
He just seems calm and reserved maybe even soft but not sensible.
He could be likable as a robot though with basic emotions that aren’t overly intense.
If you ever give a golem a majour story part you could use him to voice that one.

I’m serious, he would be likable as one.
