but why would they disagree?
Let me rephrase my statement in form of a question.
If you wouldn’t want people to “grind” for a final stat increase that is significantly below 1%, what would you make them grind for? Every other grind just seems more unfair to me.
grind for special display skins!
but why would they disagree?
that’s why we need more alternatives!
reaching max stats in PvE / WvW should not involve outrageous grind!
outrageous grind for very special skins is fine.
but not for max stats!
I think this must be a silly question, but will these items I’ve unlocked, say new skins, stay available like the ones people get in the Hall of Monuments? As in, provided I unlock them I can access them as many times as I want on as many chars as I want? Or will they be a one-char, one-time only thing? They say permanent, but I’m not sure if this applies to the fact that the system is permanent, or the rewards …
well i sure hope they are permanent like hall of monuments!
I think you are just afraid that people will catch up to you.
nope. i think it is the other way round.
people with less achievement points are envious jealous of those with more achievement points.
The current AP system is broken and dailies is the primary factor for that.
nope. it is not broken.
it is working fine as it is intended to be.
dailies are working fine too. not broken.
Dailies deprive players from catching up to other people no matter how god like skillful they may be.
what catching up? what are you talking about?
there is no need to catch up. ever.
what god like skillful are you talking about?
you got it all wrong!
achievement points never was about skill.
achievement points is about time spent playing the game.
If they missed their dailies they will NEVER be able to catch up.
there is no reason to catch up.
the leader boards you say?
that is for those who played from day -3.
late comers do not have a chance on the leader boards? yes.
yes! exactly! late comers do not deserve to be on the leader boards.
you want to be on the leader boards? play from day -3.
If they are better than you (more skillful) they SHOULD be given the chance and tools to not only catch up to you but to even surpass you.
nope. not going to happen.
again, you are mistaken.
achievement points is not an indicator of skill, but time spent playing the game.
If they are not better than you then you should rightfully have more AP than them.
again, achievement points never was about being better.
it is all about spending more time playing the game.
stop being so jealous already!
P.S logging for 20 min a day and jumping all over Kryta for daily does not require any kind of elite skills.
it takes time.
enough with the skill talk already.
your argument is invalid.
So I just finished obtaining my first full set of exotics on my necro and was going to start farming for another set with different stats for alternate builds but got to thinking if it was really worth it. If the level cap gets increased I would rather have several level 80 chars instead of 1 80 with every exotic set I can since that armor will be void after reaching a new cap. My main question is do you see a level cap increase in the future and how far off would you estimate it to be?
Some other questions would be:
A- How will they raise the level cap without kitten ing off all the players that worked forever for legendaries?
B- Same thing with ascended items…
A. legendaries will be auto leveled up to the new max level.
B. no idea.
tread mill hamsters will be happy with new level increases though.
Only thing that needs nerfing is the requirement for a Vial of Mist Essence, which is what forces people to play the RNG game in fractals. Everything else is appropriate. No one bought these back pieces for the skins, mostly because the skins aren’t worth it. Saying that you should get a massively cheaper option, because it’s generic, is not a compromise.
Moreover, the stat increase from exotic to ascended backpiece is tiny. If you really, really, really think you need it… then it’s worth that amount of gold to you. If you don’t… then make do with an exotic.
karma, coins, laurels etc other forms of grind is “massively cheaper” you mean? how so?
well, my stance remains the same.
outrageous grind for special skins + stats is acceptable.
outrageous grind for stats only is NOT acceptable.
thanks for your feedback though!
tiny increase?

multiple those difference by 6 trinkets items, or even 12 to 14 when they shove ascended armor stats and ascended weapon stats down our throats.
not tiny difference.

they fixed a bug.
why is everyone so angry?
so 9 july is the final date.
any idea on the exact time and GMT + ???
thanks!
1) cap the AP from dailies,
no. it is working as intended.
do not fix what is not broken
2) balance the rest of the achievements
yes, some achievements need some balancing.
i.e. much harder achievements should award more achievement points.
3) reduce the amount of AP from dailies
no. the amount is fine as it is.
again, do not fix what is not broken
4) allow people that don’t have the flexibility to log in daily to be able to earn the dailies they missed.
no. not happening. ever.
this belongs in another topic though.
for example, the basic icon no display skin ascended back item could be priced at at least 100k karma or higher.
I’d buy it for that.
100k karma per piece was the value i proposed once for generic skin ascended eq (available from the temple karma vendors). I still consider it a fair price.
I don’t think it should be restricted to backpacks only, though.
well, i use the back item as a start, since at the moment, the amount of grind involved is extremely outrageous.
we need more support.
where are all the people that oppose grind?
yesss unlocks system hom way !!!!
i’m okay with monthly release actually.
2 weeks feels very rushed.
There will be items, skins or account bonuses that you can buy with AP
unlock, not buy. using achievement points as currency is bad. terrible.
for example,
upon reaching
1,000 achievement points, one will have access to xxx armors skin
2,000 achievement points, one will have access to xxx weapons skin
etc
This is where a years worth of dailies/monthly need to be made available in order to give the opportunity for new starters to catch up. Cap it in years worth, im sure some sort of selection thing can be made to select which day/month u can work on.
Also daily/monthly needs to be capped in the sense of how many items are required. Once u get 5/5 then the other items cannot be completed. Im pretty sure there are already players out there that have done all the daily items not just the 5/5.
This has been an idea since the beginning, I can recall anet stating they were going to do something with AP. But now that they have, they better make these adjustments otherwise they will be alienating both new and current players.
The only factor here to have been taken into consideration is “time” and it looks as though anet have misinterpreted it and it better be fixed immediately.
what catch up? what alienating?
everyone will get those unlocks eventually.
there is no need to fix anything that is not broken.
None of the other currencies are capped in order to give new players “a chance to catch up”: not gold, not dungeon tokens, skill points, karma, laurels or whatever… ?!
Why should AP suddenly be treated differently from all the other currencies?
“Because new players need to be able to catch up” is not a valid argument, because no one has a problem with any of the other currencies not doing that.
Any more arguments?
no. achievement points as currency is bad. terrible.
it is for unlocking new rewards. not used to purchase.
gw2 moba would require special set of rules though.
that translate into too much work for the developers.
and no return on profit.
i.e. spvp cannot be effectively monetized.
i think i know what is even more exciting !!!
1 node !!!
20 players !!!
free for all !!!
KING OF THE HILL !!!!
why do people play the following games?
- team fortress 2
- dota 2
- league of legends
Dailies / monthlies should not count for obvious reason.
dailies and monthly count towards the achievement points.
and will continue to count.
for obvious reasons, there is no reason for them not to count.
Given the current difficulty of the game and assuming the difficulty if future content stays similar, I want Ascended Armor and I want getting Ascended Armor to be a long grind.
The reason I want it that way is that I would consider this ascended armor a long term goal, somewhere between ascended trinkets and the legendary, a goal that I continually work towards while experiencing the whole game (living story, dungeons, etc).
I understand that many players have a different mindset and would find long term goals unacceptable, but you asked for our opinions and well, there it is.
thanks for providing your feedback!
anyway, how would you feel, if there are a few choices?
regarding ascend armor, that is:
1. very special skin, ascended stats ~ outrageous grind (various grind methods)
2. ascended stones, upgrade exotic to ascended stats ~ normal grind (karma, coins, laurels, etc)
those who want a long term goal can strive to acquire the special skin.
those who want stats only can use ascended stones to upgrade their existing exotic armor into ascended stats.
with those, everyone will be happy!
what do you think?
looking forward to unlock system similar to hall of monuments !!!
the achievement points system is fine.
there is nothing wrong with it.
do not fix what is not broken.
however, there is a lot of wrong with those who are complaining about it though.
Daroon.1736 does have a good point though.
WvW related achievement points are harder to obtain when compared against PvE achievement points.
to balance this, i think there should a lot of new easier to obtain WvW related achievement points.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_vs_World_
at the moment … all those … well … seems need to take a lot of time to achieve …
nothing much else to add though.
I’m actually against system like HoM. In HoM all the cool items required a lot of points, meaning if I see some cool item and it says “you need 8k points to get this”, I’ll be extremly dissapointed. I have nothing against using achivement points like currency, since that way I can get what I want, not what they give me, if you get my point
using achievement points as currency is terrible.
unlocks system is much better.
One use or multiple/infinite like HoM reward’s ?
please, please make it like multiple / infinite times like HoM (hall of monuments) rewards !!!
level up another character again.
casually.
enjoy the game!
there is no rush!
well, this is how i play at least.
there will be no achievement points resets.
you know this already happened months ago when they cut infinite tracks right?
you mean the agent of entropy?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tradesman
Agent of Entropy (Prerequisite: Salvage Master)
The world is composed of certain base elements. 200 Items Salvaged
+2 (Max 250)
now it is capped at 250 achievement points.
well, i dunno. because the final decision rests with the one who made and maintains guild wars 2.
however, too many people grouping up together, making some noise, may have a slim chance to affect that final decision.
this topic is to make sure that group’s plan fails.
I think I’d agree as well. It’s not hard to build up achievement points, and resetting them or the like would be a punch in the face for people who have been accruing them. “We’re going to make these actually worth something! But first, we’re going to strip you of those you’ve already achieved…”
seriously i have no idea why those people are complaining.
for example, the basic icon no display skin ascended back item could be priced at at least 100k karma or higher.
I’d buy it for that.
hmmm i would too.
but what about the others?
i am sure they would be many others people who want less grinding alternatives to ascended back items.
perhaps i need to change the title again.
Are you agreeing or disagreeing with the new system? What is this thread about?
hmmm i am looking forward to the new system.
i.e. unlocking rewards via achievement points.
i guess i agree.
I think he is addressing to people that are complaining about the new system.
well, yeah.
i am referring to those people who complains about
- new comers cannot “catch up” with the achievement points
- achievement points from dailies etc
Indeed. This is a “to all those other threads on this topic” kind of topic. One which, like many of such topics, I agree with.
thanks for your feedback!
huh? don’t like what idea? O_O
laurels for ascended back piece u mean?Reduction of requirements to make the Ascended Backpiece. I believe the current cost is fair. I generally dislike making anything too easy, as it already is for the majority of the game.
ah i see.
well, fair or not fair, it depends on how you look at it.
1. outrageous grind for special display skin = fair
2. reasonable grind for basic icon, no special display skin = fair
at the moment, the 2nd option does not option, and that is not fair to me.
1850 fractal relics for an ascended back item with a very few combinations is quite an outrageous grind. for me, and i believe many others too.
this game is meant to be easy by the way.
generally, i mean.
there are some hard, difficult challenges but overall is meant to be casual friendly.
for example, the basic icon no display skin ascended back item could be priced at at least 100k karma or higher.
achievement points is working as intended.
dailies will continue to give achievement points.
there will be no achievement points resets.
don’t fix what is not broken!
all right, there you go!
tl; dr – there is nothing wrong with the achievements system.
Am OK with current cost.
Definitely not against a Karma sink, as Karma feels like a very neglected currency. Not sure an ascended back piece would be the best place to put it though. All in all, don’t like this idea. Leave as is.
The Prototype Fractal Capacitor should be included in the laurel merchant.
Please no. I hate the idea of the laurel merchant being a one stop shop for everything, especially something unique to a dungeon. If there HAS to be something added, the basic icon non-skinned w. ascended stats is most appropriate. As above, however, i’m against this period.
huh? don’t like what idea? O_O
laurels for ascended back piece u mean?
“the basic icon non-skinned w. ascended stats is most appropriate.”
ya ya there must be others like me who do not want fancy display skins for back item and the outrageous grind that comes along with it!
well, at least buy-able with laurels is an option.
but a basic icon / no special display skin bought with karma would be very nice !!!
Point is, grinding stack of t6 is silly with these droprates.
How many reaaally complained when this recipe was introduced? Not that many.
Many. And Chris Whiteside agreed in his AMA that it was a problem, and promised it will be addressed. Too bad he forgot most of his promises on the next day.
hmmmm let us remind them then !!!
No I said it was doable before all the loot nerfs. Exactly. It’s horrendeously bad now.
oooo paste tense all right i geddit now!
aye! that’s why!
the grind involved is horrible!
and i dun even want the quivers or books on my characters’ back!
i just want the ascended stats for the back item!
so … here i am!
a survey!
to see if anyone else feels the same!
No it’s not doable. Go out there and try to grind 250 of a t6 mat.
but you said it was doable! O_O
hmmm well, during the secret of southsun event, before the nerf on skelks, the drop rate for t6 bloods and fangs was still acceptable.
nowadays, i think the drop rate is very low.
it will take a very long time to get 250 tier 6 fine crafting materials if did not resort to buying them off the trading post.
Point is, grinding stack of t6 is silly with these droprates.
How many reaaally complained when this recipe was introduced? Not that many.
Why? It was doable.
hmmm all right.
well, i did not say it as not doable.
it certainly is doable.
i want a less grind version without special skin.
i.e. those back brace and spineguard which “goes under armor” thing.
In the original Guild Wars, most caster items were somewhat useless because they had very weird stats combinations (like a Mesmer staff giving bonuses to a Monk’s Protection Prayers and an Elementalist’s Air Magic; even with the dual profession system, more often than not those were useless). There was no system to change the skin of an item, so it was common for people to have tho choose between skins or stats.
When chapter 3, Nightfall, was released, it came with a new item system, using Inscriptions – upgrades that could be removed and switched between weapons. It wasn’t exactly a way to change stats of a given weapon skin, but it was a start; it also made weapon drops significantly more useful, considering how finally the largely useless stats could be replaced by something else.
In the worst of the GW1 fansite forums, though, a small minority cried against this. “I have a collection of perfect shields” – a poster said, meaning shields that had actually useful stats – “All from the earlier chapters. If the inscriptions worked in all items in the game, my collection would become much less valuable”.
The main GW1 developer at the time, Linsey Murdock, replied with “I agree”, and so decided to keep the inscription system limited to Nightfall and GW:EN, instead of moving it to the original two chapters, Prophecies and Factions (with very few examples). To this day, even the rarest tier of item drops in those two chapters are more often than not completely useless. This is the perfect example of how the greed and vanity of a few players led to the game being worse than it could have been for the majority, and of how ArenaNet can be a very bad developer when they want to.
(For the records, people here may remember Miss Murdock from the announcement of Ascended gear. I guess some things never change.)
We still have things like that. People demanding that new rewards be exclusive to those who have a lot of free time (and no skill), assuming said rewards would then come with some kind of prestige. It would be laughable if it weren’t sad, but that’s how MMORPG communities work.
well when you put it that way, then i would say, those minority are indeed ruining it for the majority !!!
dat not the point
hmmm what is the point then?
hmmm well if Narcissistic-ism is what you wrote then yeah i think there is a lot of Narcissistic-ism in the official forums.
i have not really encountered much Narcissistic-ism in the game though.
and i think i would say Narcissistic-ism is ruining the official forums community.
various balance issues, bugs would ruin the game.
it is gone for the moment.
i think, in the future, they might be available again, via Asuran time machines!
well, and i think those Asuran time machines probably consumes so much energy so it will be a limited time event as well.
OH that is brilliant!!! I personally missed the flame and frost and it would be AMAZING to be able to go back in some capacity!! People knock living story but some of it is pretty good and that is a smart way to explain going back to past events. I hope they do something like this!
aye, that is what i think.
but i do hope it will really happen though!
we are at their mercy heheheh.
we will just have to wait and see.
Wow, every post argueing in favor of portals in this thread is being posted by mesmers.
but my main character is not a mesmer.
Those mesmers are immediately and vociferously attacking anyone who posts in support of my OP.
well, what do you expect, when they do not agree with what you have to say?
I think this is very telling. I think that you know that portals are breaking the game and trivializing content.
hmmm nah. i think the portals are fine. not breaking the game. as for “trivializing content” i think different people will have different opinions regarding that.
i guess i would call it “convenience-ing content” instead.
I think you know that you are wrong.
hmmm i dun think so. no one is right or wrong in this, because not everyone shares the same opinion.
I think that is why you are so aggressive.
i do think you are aggressive though. since you mentioned that you are very angry with the mesmer portal thing.
I think you just want to have your liscence to steal at any cost.
steal what? O_O
which were meant for people who participated in and completed the content.
what if, the purpose of the mesmer portal is meant for this purpose?
Youre complaining about 1 stack of t6 mats? Try making a legendary.
AHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
well, they are called legendaries for a good reason.
them legendaries are a different tier though.
and at the moment, the legendary weapons have the same stats as exotic weapons.
so it is an outrageous grind for a special skin. i can accept that. well, for me.
but, there is a difference in stats of the ascended back item versus an exotic back item though.
i.e. 22 16 16 vs 56 35 35
that is err … more than 100% stats difference?
for the back item i mean.
Okay, I keep seeing a lot of these “surveys” and I have to say the responses you will get are kinda obvious. Its like saying “survey: do you want free money?” >.>
well, i made them “surveys” because, i dunno, some people will say no. yes, i think some people will say no to free money!
errr because they believe that rewards only comes to those who work for it, etc? O_O
The fact is that a mechanic like portals allows other players to completely bypass whatever challenge there was and claim whatever rewards there were.
and this bothers you? makes you angry? makes you unhappy? O_O
That’s funny, because I had a Zap drop from a jumping puzzle chest. Hardly a lesser reward than any dungeon has ever given me.
wow congrats! that’s nice! i did not get exotics before from any jumping puzzle chests.
No, because dungeons aren’t jump puzzles. Comparing the two in relation to portal usage is pretty pointless. One is an instanced, 5 man difficulty setup while the other is a open world optional activity.
So, jumping puzzles are optional content but dungeons are required content? Really?
i only see “One is an instanced, 5 man difficulty setup” where is the “required content” word? O_O
The one thing that did surprise me about the portal is that mesmer’s were the only class to have it.
well, i think it fits with the current lore of guild wars 2?
in guild wars only necro can teleport though
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Teleport
Consume Corpse (to corpse)
Necrotic Traversal (to corpse)
in guild wars 2, more professions can teleport!
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Teleport
Guardian: Flashing Blade, Judge’s Intervention, Merciful Intervention
Thief: Shadow Escape (downed), Destroy Shadow Trap
Elementalist: Air Pocket-Vacuum (underwater), Lightning Flash
Mesmer: Phase Retreat, Illusionary Leap-Swap, Feigned Surge (underwater), Portal, Blink
Necromancer: Dark Path (in Death Shroud), Haunt (with active Shadow Fiend), Necrotic Traversal (with active Flesh Wurm), Spectral Walk
There is a difference between a bug and a mistake in programming, although in this case it doesn’t make a difference. I’m thinking it wasn’t a bug, but Anet realizing that it was just too much for something that could be done repeatedly by one person. That’s okay though, imo it makes sense.
i think it is a honest mistake.
well, honest mistake causes bugs right?
just take a look at the current vendor selling prices for exotic armor pieces.
well Arena Net is certainly not strangers to price goofs
yes, i still remember during launch week, hoelbrak tier 2 level 60 rare weapons can be bought for 21 karma per weapon.
they banned a lot of people back then.
they fixed a bug.
why are some people angry over a bug fix?
