Spirits are already strong as it is. Their activated skills already introduce way more versatility compared to warrior banners, plus not to mention each spirits’ attacks proc from their own affects (i.e. sun spirit will produce extra burns with Quicksand or Cold Snap).
In a tPvP sense, it’s profoundly unnecessary to buff spirits any further.
With the Spirits Unbound 30 Nature Magic trait.
Sometimes when you press 0 to activate Nature’s Renewal, your spirit begins to cast by lifting it’s arm… and then suddenly turns around and never finishes it’s action. I’m assuming that the movement of Spirits Unbound creates some anomaly that causes the spirit to move and reject it’s current action to prioritize following the player over ressing an ally.
While I understand Rangers aren’t necessarily on the radar or things to fix, I thought this was worth posting. It’s been irking me recently since I would’ve been of more assistance to the people around me if my skills did what they state on the tooltips.
Sword/Axe, Greatsword.
30 in Marksmanship for SotBM.
Pop Signet of the Hunt and use maul, auto attack with sword and cast 4 on recharge.
Frost Spirit w/ 10 trait for more proc.
Spotter.
Bird pets (not moas, use ravens).
But you’re going to be squishy as kitten. But that’s the best I can think of.
It’s not as simple as hitting a switch. This issue has been one that we have had several discussions over. The problem is that many of the solutions are either too complex, or they hurt a portion of our player base, etc.
Tough.
Just ban the most egregious offenders. End of.
It’s better to respect players who worked hard to get where they are now than to pretend like you care for the exploiters in this game. Please.
I know Champ Farming is profitable.
I know TP power trading can earn you 100g/day easily.
But, why do you think some people wouldn’t do that kitten all day?
Because, I am not playing Atari Economy Simulator 2014.
Some people actually enjoy walking around in open world, killing monsters, helping low levels kill that tough veteran/ champ, witnessing the brilliant art direction in certain parts of the maps, or… oh I don’t know, playing the kittening game?
Some people enjoy gathering mats because it satisfies their desire to see more of the game in the way it was meant to be played. That intrinsic value has sentiment garnered to the individual – you have no right to define what other people enjoy, doing so makes you look so arrogant.
Sure, maybe I am wasting my time chopping for Soft Wood Logs instead of killing the champion rotations in Frostgorge Sound. And maybe you’re right in saying that people aren’t exactly earning those assets for free if they have to spend their time to get it. But there are a plethora of reasons as to why people do what they do, despite those actions being converse to making the most amount of money in a short interval of time. Maybe, some people in this game open their GW2 program to have a good time surrounded by people who care for them.

That’s not a bug. Dragon Tooth allows the user to hit anything so long as it’s targeted and within the 900 range threshold – even if the caster is facing a wall with no line of sight.
Sure, there are serious design inconsistencies with other AoE skills, and is incredibly annoying to counter in a 10 v Zerg scenario like the picture you posted, but that’s a wholly different matter.
While I appreciate Anet buffing shouts, I really don’t think Rangers ever needed a destealth mechanic. We already do a fine job taking thieves / mesmers on. So no, Sic’ Em will likely never take a slot in my bar until the other shouts become more useful for group-play.
Okkkkaaayyyy… LOL i just take it that its working :p
Btw, I dont understand why people are saying taking Storm Spirit has DPS increase? All it buffs is swiftness… confused
People typically take storm over frost in tPvP for the swiftness to help melee with gap closing, but I guess more importantly is Call Lightning which can easily hit for 3.5k+ non-crit.
I’ve seen amateur Hl1 modders perform better AI programming feats than Anet, it’s a little embarrassing. Look at Sven Coop and how well Sniper managed to blend the movement and attack sequences of the aliens and hgrunts, it’s astounding. And these aren’t kittening professionals doing it – just passionate mod developers.
Seirously, is it asking too much from Anet to make our pets stop what they are doing, remove the aftercast delay, and just perform the F2? It’s not bloody rocket science anymore, it’s 2013. Get with the times for Christ’s sake. So many times would I have killed downed players with the finish in Tpvp if my Raven just blinded the target when I demand and not 4 seconds later.
I dunno if it’s just me… but I really don’t see why rangers must be penalized for having a dead pet. Why can I not just press F4 and get her back 20/16 seconds later? Why must I wait a whole 60/48 seconds for my core profession mechanic to kick in?
What are you referencing?
It’s the time gating that’s really annoying me most of all, I think. Makes me kinda’ grateful that I only have one character, but even so… the game feels more like a job if anything. I hope they at least make earning Dragonite more reasonable.
What’s amusing is that people think they are skilled running some kittenter stun build.
“Oh look, I know how to chain my control skills in tandem! I’m so good!”
Just grab a stun break and chew it on the kittening Skull Crack. It’s only strong if you let it be.
Also, confusion is one of the weakest conditions, even when upgraded like this.
Wow.
Weird… my bs meter is going off.
Robert Hrouda. Look it up.
Apothecary is still better.
Really.
You think WvW needs to have more rewards?
You should take a stroll down the Heart of the Mists sometime.
This item is completely worthless.
You can buy basic salvage kits for karma.
Did you all just forget that?
You can buy Fine Salvage Kits with karma.
Did you forget that?
Pretty arrogant of you to assume that everyone does sPvP.
I dunno’ about anyone else, but I never thought Terror was really all that… necessary. Not a whole lot of skills use it, and you’ll hardly see it stack above 6. I still don’t know why it was designed in the first place. At least Dhuumfire required heavy investment in a traitline to earn, so I can’t feel entirely bad about that.
Fear, on the other hand…
Anet just needs to up the rewards. They did it right with the gems on Paids, but they removed it. Tournies need a huge rehaul. I’m kinda sick of seeing the same people doing solo-q all the time, it shows the lack of PvP investment as of late. So many kitten people leaving this game. :/
Birds. They nerfed Blinding Slash, but oddly enough increased the Slash damage by 15%. So, they do more sustained damage overall. I stopped using felines after seeing Maul crit for 1.5k, it’s a sad sight since I’m so used to seeing it around ~4k. But I can’t complain – <3 birds IRL.
E/ Oh, and don’t forget to trait for vigor on pet swap, Vigorous Training is great.

I’ve been looking around the forums for a recipe for the Firebringer for PvP, no luck. Anyone know of any good websites / databases that have a comprehensive listing of known mystic forge crafts for PvP?
I’m noticing a bunch of Potent variants for the dual nourishment buffs like Master Tuning Crystals and Superior Sharpening Stones… anyone know what the recipes are and how to obtain them?
I don’t know about you guys but… alot of people have jade weapons by now. Starting to see a whole lot of ppl in sPvP running around with swords and the like. Face it: compared to the Molten and Sclerite weapon loadouts, the Dragon Jade is by far the most generously presented ticket to boot. You can obtain it without spending a single gem, that’s a step in the right direction.
Yes, it’s about RNG to obtain them. But have you seen the price of the regular Dragon Coffer right this very moment? You’d have to be a really lazy player not to afford a stack a day.
Yeah, it sure is the best feeling to get 40 Cured Hardened Leather Sections.
Siege should just refresh when a player comes close enough to it. It’s pretty kitten awkward to have to press F and ESC 10 times in keep every 50 mins or so.
At least give us something meaningful. What the heck is magic find going to do for my server?
No armor damage is nice, but it could go further. While outmanned, grant the player +5 supply capacity, allied NPCs having higher levels, maybe even a automated notification to other borderlands that a specific map has the outmanned status.
Please fix it. Way too many people exploiting, puts me off this new event entirely.
Make shouts useful. Give it the ability to have your pet track stealthed foes.
It’s pretty crystal clear the devs don’t take the Ranger profession seriously. I doubt these rooting issues will ever be fixed (also concerns Autoattack on Spear underwater).
The only time I can see myself using the sword is bunkering in sPvP on a Healing Spring, taking advantage of the leap finisher every now and then. Everywhere else… no. Lack on control and dodge priority is total crap.
While I don’t like the huge recharge, SotW is one of our better signets. It’s part of the reason bunker Rangers are so good right now.
Mystic Forge, it’s always been a decent source of ectos for me. Either that or selling directly to the vendor. But I guess I’m flawed and like to gamble often (if you consider greens to be a gamble) :P
Those are pretty universal counters to… any class.
Stunned or stoned? Use a break stun? Isn’t that a no brainer?
Immobilized? Use a condition removal skill? Duh?
I’m pretty confidant in saying those aren’t the reasons thieves are considered “OP.”
The fact that thieves have constant access to a state of being (invisibility) that allows you, when traited, to gain health, initiative and condition removal, can make any battle a frustration. If anything, that state of being should provide some hindrance toward your defense, not a strength. The problem with stealth in this game is that there aren’t any hard counters to it.
Being a thief is just too easy: they have the capacity to make plenty of mistakes and have a plethora of safety nets.
Spirits need to be viable. Pets need to actually hit their target. Our projectiles need to stop saying “obstructed” or “out of range.” Our weapon damage needs to be increased all across the board (heck I’d reconcile with reduced pet damage as a consequence). Opening strikes needs to be completely redesigned (I mean c’mon, we’re not a burst class). Our dodge needs to take priority over our Sword’s auto attack sequence.
What happened to our amazing midline capabilities that was so iconic in GW1?
Rangers definitely need things addressed. Yes, they are bad. Damage-wise, party support-wise. Bad.
Personally I like using dual Drakes when running axe/torch with Flame Trap. Lots of aoe Might popping up, helps my party in CoE quite a bit as we hug Alpha. Plus, I can’t complain with the 5k crits from the Blast Finisher. For general PvE I can’t think of a better setup, especially considering their auto attacks hit more than one foe.
As for actually useful spiking damage, dual Ravens are great. Their like felines, only their spike skill is a F2 ability. Pretty common to see 4k’s pop up twice when using it on decent might + vuln stacking. Quite a compliment to your sustained DPS in WvW or sPvP.
But to each their own. While I understand bears are a coveted pet to many rangers, I just think the ranger is losing a whole lot of possibilities running those ursine pets. Sure, they can be tanky, but you’re losing alot of your DPS. Alot. Plus, you can’t necessarily control when they use their Defy Pain. The sporadic skill use can be cumbersome.
I think, in a nutshell, your pet should compliment your build.
Hey guys.
Stow your pet out of combat. Then enter a tonic form. Enter combat. Exit the tonic form.
Hope this helps some of you.
CoE 2-1 and 3-1 is still being done. Anet thought blocking certain holes in the map or changing Blink’s functionality would fix the problem. It doesn’t. It never will. People will always try to find the holes in your design. You give people so many ways to get from point A to point B in a instantaneous fashion, players will likely play around with those skills and use it to get to places that they were not meant to reach.
So make it easier for yourself. Make a system where the instance is automatically destroyed 30 seconds after the dungeon reward chest appears. It will prevent players from doing multiple paths in the same instance.
I want to play a game where exploits are not the bread and butter of the gameplay.
Wouldn’t that just solve our problems? Honestly, it’s insanely cumbersome to have a pet indefinitely running at a moving foe only to hit a couple times. If we can’t remove pets from our arsenal like we could have in GW1, you best make them competent.
I’m pretty convinced that those people talking about all the professions in the State of the Game video is suffering from a mild case of autism. Seriously.
“Ummm uhhhhh oh longbow needs work ummm uhhhh oh yeah, agony for pets!”
Get your heads together and quit repeating the same mistakes you people made in GW1. I’m utterly sick and tired of seeing professions like the ranger being treated like some afterthought. 2400+ hours on ranger here, and it needs work. Now.
All the devs need to do is listen to their playerbase. Just bloody read the forums, for the love of Pete.
I’ve noticed that my world completion went to 99% after the update. I’ve also noticed that a waypoint was added in Brisban Wildlands called “Proxemics Lab,” located at the top left corner of the map. However, I also noticed that another waypoint was left undiscovered in the Plains of Ashford. I’ve been searching this zone for a while and had no luck. Anyone else find the waypoint?
You know there’s a problem with Rangers when you feel nervous when they join your party. They simply don’t offer as much damage or support as a Warrior or Guardian could. And cmon,’ the potential is there (Spirit-wide buffs, return the GS damage from the beta). Please make Rangers useful. For once.
Thank god, no longer need to wait 16 seconds anymore. Anyone else find any more changes to rangers that were not included in the patch notes?
I mean, I understand why the revival of pets was removed after a month the game was released. It was really cumbersome to revive pets at a snails pace during combat, unless you were accompanied by a zerg who constantly mashes the F key.
Truth is it’s not only tonics, but pretty much what Unspecified already stated; using Spicy Pumpkin Cookies, for example, will refresh your pet too.
I guess I’m guilty for using this exploit, but I’ll be honest – when I do fractals 40 with my guild the last thing I want to be is a liability to my fellow teammates. Rangers are a handicapped already with their low DPS, lack of variety on stun breakers, broken traitlines… need I say more? I hate it when my pet instagibs by Agony, consequentially reducing my DPS by 30% – and there’s literally nothing I can do about it. Until now, that is.
Some of you probably already know this, but for those who don’t try this: the next time your pet dies, use a tonic and exit out of it.
I’m pretty confidant in saying Anet didn’t intend for this, but heck – when you need that condition removal from Empathic Bond, it comes in handy.
Now, I don’t particularly mind the 250 ectos that are required to make the Beta Fractal Capacitor glow. I mean, much of the cosmetic assets of this game does rely on a large number of T6 mats and the likes – so I’m not surprised of the stack of ectos required to make them glow.
What irks me, ever since Ascended gear was released, was the price of adding on an additional +5 inherent Agony Resistance on your backslot. It seems a bit too extreme to ask players to invest some odd ~70g to get a single backslot item to it’s “(Infused)” status.
250 ectos is asking quite a bit, and seems rather out of place with all other assets in this game. I mean, let’s be frank, it does cost a good sum of money to get exotic gear, but never an instrumentally large sum of wealth for a single item.
Could you good folks in Anet please reconsider the recipe for the infusions of Quivers and Capacitors? Perhaps, involve the Shards that are obtained in the Fractals of the Mists so that the infuse status garners more respect (i.e. something earned and not bought)?
Thanks for reading.
