But, unfortunately, the Mystic Forge doesn’t accept all Insignias.
As you can see on the screenshot below, The Ecto, Anthology Book and Breather can be inserted into the mystic forge, but insignias like Vipers cannot be accepted.
Lets see if more recipes are introduced as patches hit in. Hopefully we can make aquabreathers with HoT stats in the near future.
I’m convinced Genlog is a troll. No way people can think like that 3 years into this game.
Oh and the kicking happens all the time. I still see those awkward “Heavies only” LFGs that give me a good chuckle. But oh well, not like PvE in this game has gotten any better. I have yet to meet a single decent person in my pug groups. I don’t expect it to change.
Well I’m glad I read this.
I am not glad, however, for promoting 700 Charged Cores for Mjolnir…
If any Ranger has used Stalker Strike with Offhand Training before the recent Specializations patch, you already know what I’m talking about:
The current Stalker’s Strike is pitiful and wouldn’t ever hit anything moving. The enhanced ranged version offered by our old Offhand Training trait gave the skill newfound viability as not only a movement skill for opening or closing gaps, but also as a surprise ganking skill in PvP encounters where, for example, a Ranger would appear to be fleeing the enemy only to pop out and use Stalkers Strike to setup a well placed Splitblade.
Rangers desperately need the range component of Stalker’s Strike in order to utilize Ambidexterity to the fullest extent, and so that our weapon evades will, once again, define us in our defensive and offensive combat.
Does Anet even understand how necessary it was to use Offhand Training’s radius increase to make Offhands desirable? Christ, is there not one developer who understands?
What happened to you guys, ANet? You guys used to be upholding the highest industry standards for high-quality PvP in Gw1. What happened?
Take Warrior, way too much developer profession bias in this game so there’s really no point in investing time in the Ranger. Warriors are desired in every gamemode, Rangers aren’t.
I honestly cried while reading this.
Anet please go hunting.
Careful how you use Fern Hound though. The regen provided from pets ticks for 2 hp per second if the pet is swapped. (Still surprised Anet hasn’t fixed that yet)
I’m still sour about how our spirits changed dramatically. Only redeeming factor I think is Sun Spirits’ buff; the 8s cooldown proc and 2 stacks of 3s burn feels pretty nice for group utility.
Do we need to shout to get a simple fix on our kittening pets stats ?
Apparently.
The skill needs a longer cooldown, ~400s seems too short.
Also, I’m surprised Anet hasn’t repaired this yet. Thought pets would get SOMETHING from the compensation of the recent power spike classes have been earning lately.
I’m on the edge thinking that after their recent Spirit redesign, Anet is possibly planning to incorporate a redesign of Spirits for the Druid specialization as well?
All in all, I just want some group utility. I want other members of my party to mentally say “Oh great we have a Ranger!” just the same way we feel when a Guardian joined our party in nearly every gamemode…
I’m such a blind optimist. This dreaming isn’t healthy.
Pretty sure well timed Mauls and Paths of Scars with the buff would mean Remorseless has usefulness, but as it stands the 10% static increase is probably the most reliable considering how little effort is required. Shame really, I liked the new Remorseless.
There’s also no internal cooldown on Zephyr’s Speed. I managed to stack 30s of Quickness…
Clarion Bond and Zephyr’s Speed is totally gonna get an internal cooldown soon. And honestly, it’s well warranted.
Hopefully Anet looks into the range of most of our Offhands. I was expecting most radii and range coefficients to be tweaked and baselined once Offhand Training was liquidated… I miss the old large Whirling Defense radius when traited with Offhand Training.
In any case, it’s hard to take Honed Axes and opt out of taking Beastly Warden or Zephyr’s Speed. Taunt has way too many PvP applications, and Quickness w/ Might is great for general bursts.
How do you get it anyways?
Yeah, I’m experiencing some issues as well. I am only able to see my party moving around. Plus, every enemy and server-allied player that isn’t in my party is invisible.
This occurred in Red BL.
Oh and just for fun, here’s me experiencing intense lag unable to use skills. I even managed to use my Harpoon Gun on land.
For some reason, since the Monday patch and onward, Bonfire has construed a very strange change.
Every tick after the first tick diminishes a substantial amount of damage. If you examine my picture below, my first burn ticks for 410 damage, second at 287, third at 167, and the fourth at a low 41.
I was hoping that since the fellow Ranger community brought this up already (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Ranger-Torch-5-skill-Bonfire) things would change on proceeding patches. It’s rather alarming to consider this being intended.
If you seriously insist on using a tanky pet then just use the River Drake. Lightning Breath is incredibly strong and the Tail Swipe will help your Ele friends with blasting might. Just be sure to have Jaguar or Jungle Stalker as your alternative pet so you can give good DPS during burn phases/ when people stack.
Make sure to cancel your pets skills with F3> F1 if your Drake is using the Blast Finisher when there isn’t a Fire Field though. I can’t emphasize enough how infrequently people ignore their pets in combat.
I don’t. But we don’t really have much of a choice.
I wish there were more weapon options honestly. A few years back people were recommending whips for Rangers, paralleling those Nightmare Court members in TA. It would be nice to have more main-hand options.
Having been playing Ranger religiously since the betas I don’t really see this “huge PBS nerf.” They added an animation tell with the projectile. The function of the skill is still the same… 1/2s cast and 900 range. Am I missing a secret patch note?
It used to be obtained by a rare forge via sPvP tokens back when people were able to craft stuff.
You can buy all the land-based weapons with karma from the WvW vendor yes, however the vendors do not offer the underwater weapons and thus it is required to craft/buy them via TP.
Don’t bother using it in PvE. It was good when the game came out with the high rate-of-fire and 1200 range default, but after the nerfs years ago there’s really no point in using it over the Longbow.
sPvP on the other hand, try running Rabid with Sharpened Edges, Krait Rune and Sigil of Earth. Shortbow is a condition/toolbox weapon so it fits very well for small scale PvP engagements.
The +12 buff you are referring to is simply the Celestial nomenclature. It is merely identical to the one you would normally craft with:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exquisite_Charged_Quartz_Jewel
Secondly, only one “aura” is present at a time. Having two different gems will garner simply one of the auras. I can’t explain what causes one color to be present over the other.
Soft wood is up in price due to people crafting Bandit Weapons.
When will people learn that a 4+ second channel skill isn’t a burst?
And thank you djunior, more people need to use melee weapons with group utility traits and stop being selfish with Axe mainhand or Longbow. GW2 is a team based game, everyone should make a build to account for the people around you.
I see rangers killing warriors in PvP all the time. I’ve lost to a few myself but I do agree that Rangers need help but nerfing Warriors is not going to help Rangers.
1v1s are not a testament of constructive, objective game balance.
Yeah haha, we get this bug alot too. It would probably be faster if we redid the whole dungeon, but when we get bored (which is more often the case) we just pull mobs to Detha, let her die, rez her, and continue.
I don’t really think people mind the technical side of this skill considering glass power Rangers are in a completely abysmal state at the moment.
I seem to be getting this bug whenever I try picking up an item on the ground while another player commits the same action. I can use some utility skills that have no activation time, but all my attack skills are rendered unusable. There seems to be some clientside > serverside miscommunication.
I typically fix this by suicide, downing, getting knocked down, or reconnecting. Getting used to bugs is a normal way of playing the Ranger profession, I admit, but this particular bug is surprising considering it affects more than one profession.
Didn’t people used to do that with the pre-nerf “Guard!” back when the game came out?
I still don’t know why that was removed, Mesmers can still spawn Izerkers on towers…
Wait, seriously? No one misses Dshot?
Rangers used to require so much skill, closest I can get for that in GW2 is SB #5. A 25s cooldown rupt. Ugh.
I am having this inventory resizing issue as well, for a long while now.
My inventory size is 20×8. The inventory screen shrinks one unit horizontally each time the game is relogged.

This also affects the Ranger’s Quick Shot as well.
Sucks how every redeeming thing rangers have is canned.
10 point ele trait – Vigor on crit with 5s cooldown.
10 point engie trait – Vigor on speed 5s cooldown.
Other classes are given perma vigor while ranger’s 50% boost is nerfed to 25% because “too much endurance”
Haha yeah. And It’s even more comedy gold when we consider the Ranger’s 2 point trait “Primal Reflexes.” Apparently the risk for being crit isn’t as big as dealing a crit to Anet.
I’ll just be happy if it were just weapons, armor, trinkets, and skills.
From a developer perspective, rebalancing every other class to be on the same par as the Ranger would be… tedious and time consuming, not to mention it would inevitably be upsetting a large portion of the playerbase who is used to having 3.0 damage coefficients…
It’s unrealistic. Anet never did nor does any type of balancing like that.
But it makes me glad to see the majority of the playerbase agreeing that Rangers are underperforming in every gamemode. Hopefully we will see the CDI emanate into something meaningful.
Finally a constructive thread on these forums.
I think the F1 and F3 commands can be compressed into one command easily. Press F1 once to make the pet hostile, and press it again to make it passive and return back to the owner. This would also resolve the issue of having to press the “Hostile > Passive” button on our pet interface that currently does not have it’s own keybind.
This way we can have 1 free function command button. For the free F3 space, I would recommend putting all the slot 4 skills that pets have within this command. Canine Knockdown, Avian AoE Swiftness, Moa Harmonic Cry, Drake Tail Swipe, etc.
This would be a step in the right direction, without dramatically altering the keybind functions too harshly and allowing Rangers to control the most powerful, currently passive, skills that pets formally controlled on their own.
I’m still amazed i don’t see anyone running Spiders with Malicious Training in SPvP
Because Keen Edge’s free bleeds are great. And most take burst pets to compliment the condition damage.
Thanks for your constructive and informative reply. With the amount of awesome posts you made in this thread facepalm is indeed the right thing to do.
They were referring to Jungle Spider/ Black Widow by the way, not Spiders in general. Though Terravos wasn’t being clear enough.
One thing I’ve learned in this forums is this: it’s a poor place for discourse. You’re not going to have people discussing topics. They’ll just end up questioning each others qualifications to conjure their opinions. So nothing really gets done.
Just enjoy the game, don’t waste your time here.
The remarkable thing is that it really isn’t hard to be helpful as a Ranger. Just 4 points in Marksmanship for Spotter, 2 points in Nature Magic for Vigorous Spirits, and Zerker gear with a Sword mainhand.
It’s not a “specific build.” There are so many variants of the SSS Ranger it’s pretty amazing. Some can slot in Hunt for a nice burst with Maul and SotB, some can take Stone Spirit for group protection, or just take the standard “Sic’ Em!” with QZ. Or you can go lazymode with Wilderness Survival traits to carry bad players. So long as you always bring Spotter with Frost Spirit w/ Zerker gear and mainhand Sword, you’ll -always- be useful.
Every decent speedclear group uses at least one Ranger.
Well, it can’t get any worse than it is currently.
…right?
Your pet must enter combat for this trait to grant +Healing Power.
Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m totally on board with removing consumables as a whole. They introduce ridiculous power creep to the game. Lemongrass food in particular just trivializes condition users, which is totally unacceptable.
I was just wondering why more people haven’t really pressed the matter of balance as a whole for WvW. So many things need to be addressed in order to see more above standard play.
This thread reminded me of this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stronger_Bowstrings
I like how Warrior bugs actually help them. Wish that were true for Rangers.
But yeah, nerding aside… It does make sense to give Rangers a more definitive role in being the sole proprietors of being the masters of ranged combat. This would be a step in the right direction, though barrage acting as a projectile is just weird and doesn’t seem to make any mechanical sense.
Still no place in WvW, that’s for sure. Only 1 competitive build for sPvP (4/0/6/4/0 or 2/0/6/6/0 Spirits), and SSS zerker (4/x/x/2/x) for PvE. Being a Ranger, while we have the capabilities of running different builds through versatility, we really only have one defined build in every gamemode. There’s a reason we’re the first to be considered for the CDI.
Oh, I didn’t know people gave a kitten about balance in WvW. This is news to me.
While we’re at it, lets eliminate the Dire nomenclature and Perplexity Rune. Perhaps buff some classes that see close to no play? Hmm?
No? Oh well. I tried.
Frailty sigil got a buff so it procs on non-crits now! Might be nice for covering your bleeds.
Even with 35% crit chance it’s still pretty nice. I run something very similar to this, tho I opted to take Troll over Healing Spring simply because if I did not invest heavy into Healing Power I wouldn’t really see the payout in healing potency out of the base + regen.
Agony Sigil on Shortbow would make people rip their hair out too, though I see the merits in your condi-clear.
I know you only have dagger as your offhand, but I still feel like Offhand Training makes the dagger so much more meaningful. 8s cooldown on Stalkers, but more importantly is that you can use if after Hornets > Monarchs > Stalkers to get an extra boost of distance away from your foe if you needed to disengage.
Ty for the laugh.
Idk why I browse forums honestly. Discourse is so kitten rare here.
Because you can actually hit hard? Considering the low rate-of-fire, it’s quite a heavy cost seeing a non-crit.
