I’ve noticed nobody talks, nobody answers questions nobody does anything social. This seems to be the least helpful MMO I’ve played. I’ve asked questions and get nothing. Try to see where people are and be vocal in pvp and show positions and such and nothing.
Nobody says a thing in this game. It’s so odd, and makes me want to play less and less because it feels stale like a single player RPG with a bad story line.
Oh the irony, dude your name is heartless.6803. Less is in your name, one would think you are use to less instead of more ….. Not hating, I’m just saying
I log in just to say NO.
I too feel that Magic Find should be thrown out of the game be it gear or buff.
This topic has an important lesson, for both ArenaNet and the community.
Classic MMOs create a Stockholm syndrome with grinders. Those games demand people to waste hours and hours and hours playing through content they do not really enjoy, only to get a shiny reward in the end… But sooner or later said reward is shown to be irrelevant, and so all that time spent has been a waste, considering how it was not actually enjoyed. This becomes worse when a MMO shuts down – people are then forced to see the futility in spending all that time doing something they didn’t like doing, in order to get a meaningless reward, effectively being deceived by a MMO developer into waste their lives.
Now, I believe that, deep inside, even grinders realize this. I believe they understand it and keep that anger within themselves, not throwing it against the game that motivated it, but throwing it instead against a surrogate target. We have, thus, the birth of a very interesting creature:
The hater.
Some people are not only displeased with a game – no, they actively want that game to fail. While someone who does not like an aspect of the game would provide feedback, which would be even slightly constructive, all a hater wants is destructive feedback in order to try to hurt the game as much as possible. All this anger is probably a way to unconsciously manifest the anger of being used and effectively deceived by other MMOs; still, all MMOs have haters, and they are rather easy to spot.
The main trait of a hater is that they are hoping the game will fail. A few will say it themselves. Example:
Sadly a post by CC Eva overrides your anecdotal evidence. As for your claim that the game has “no subscribers” since it’s buy to play? Well here’s the hard truth. Fewer players mean fewer cash shop purchases, which means less money for NCsoft, which means unhappy corporate bigwigs. That will equal the death of GW2, and soon.
There are other signs of a hater. They are extremely fond of hyperbole, usually trying to describe their (derogatory) opinion as fact. Example:
It’s a well known fact that GW2’s PVE is horrible.
They lie. Often. Example:
GW2 is pretty much a single player RPG with a multiplayer lobby. It’s not really an MMO, the devs even said so.
They claim to have stopped playing the game and that it’s dying, despite still trying to talk about recent game updates. Example:
Decided to get a refund and go back to WoW. Never thought it would come to this, but honestly it’s better than the alternative of giving Arenanet my time and letting them keep my money. Any smart person would also drop this dyeing game.
They claim that everyone with counter arguments to their claims is a fanboy/white knight/whatever, usually as a way to hide their own lack of counter arguments. Example:
Opinion invalidated due to tired, canned zealot response.
They also have 100% posts complaining about the game, and are frequent posters in topics about some kind of criticism (as well as in any kind of topic praising the game, telling others they are wrong). It’s not a surprise that the two other major haters of this forum have already made a few posts in this topic.
Now, the issue here is how those haters are not trying to help the game. They are not offering constructive criticism. Quite the opposite – they would destroy the game if they could (repressed anger is something rather ugly, isn’t it?), so the best they can do is offer destructive criticism and try to poison the community.
There is a lesson here for ArenaNet: not all feedback is good. Not everyone should be listened to. Most of the main issues of Guild Wars 1 rose because ArenaNet listened to what players asked and implemented it without thinking of the long term impact of those ideas. The same issue has already appeared in Guild Wars 2 with the addition of Ascended gear, due to how a vocal minority asked for more things to grind. ArenaNet has to learn that not all feedback is useful.
There is also a lesson here for the community. Haters love attention. The best help other players can give them is by replying to them and giving them an excuse to post more. Whenever you see a hater, just report him and ignore. Wasting time with arguments is the same as trying to have a conversation with a wall.
(For the records, about the Trinity: it says wonders that someone who wants GW2 to fail wants to add the holy trinity to the game.)
Awesome job Erasculio.2914, I’ll try to sum all that up in one video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUvFeyGxaaU
Report him that’s how you handle griefer.
A quote from Vasham in a different thread: “Decided to get a refund and go back to WoW. Never thought it would come to this, but honestly it’s better than the alternative of giving Arenanet my time and letting them keep my money. Any smart person would also drop this dyeing game.”
This was eight days ago. And yet… you are still here….
Why can’t these people simply move on? If you don’t like the game, fine, nobody is arm-twisting you into singing its praises. However the door is >>>>>>>>
A remark about door knobs also springs to mind.
You sir have just won over 9000 internet for this post
I have only been playing for less than a month, and I have spent most of my time trying the different races and professions. Soon as my characters get into the upper teens, I find myself dying constantly. Even as a guardian with a shield, I am dropping as fast as my characters in light armor.
I generally use the weapons and armor granted from quests or dropped from monsters. I carefully choose my skills and traits, yet still my health goes down faster than my enemy. Do I need to stack vitality while leveling? Or maybe I just don’t fully understand the dodge mechanic? I try to jump to the side when I see something big coming.
My friend I play with is having the same problem, so I was wondering if any other people had this problem when they were first learning the game and what they did to overcome it? Thanks!
Post the server that you are playing on.
How to win me back:
Shower me with gold and surround me with beautiful women, feed/house all the poor and stop all the wars.
Hit 80 and quit playing for like a month. Ran out of things to do. Anything new in the past 4 weeks or so?
Where have you been, you miss out on all the fun cause they added 10 40man raid dungeon right after you left. I had raid gear coming out of my ears from running those 40man raids.
you missed somethign important OP.
the player isn’t the hero of gw2.
traehearne is.
I agreed it seem that Traehearne is the hero and not you.
This really sux there are times where I’m fighting centaur and some of them don’t show up on my screen. Then I get kill and was like WTF?
The last week on GW2 has been one mostly of frustration due to broken DE’s, respawn rates, down levelling etc…all things which I believe Anet have been aware of since release, but have (seemingly) done little about.
During the beta when my students asked me what I was playing I would say “GW2!…it’s one to watch!” Now…I tell them it’s one to avoid. -snip-
I don’t know about you but I been telling all my student and teachers and friends and family, coworkers even illegal immigrant and aliens that GW2 the the is devil himself, it is the antichrist, its the end of the world, it is my coffee machine not working anymore.
I think this is one thing where GW2 went the wrong way. Most of us came from WoW in my group and we all miss the world element of PvP.
Problem is, this game’s factions all get along. It would literally be a all out war out there if you could attack anyone.
I do wish they had somthing similar to Alliance vs Horde. I mean maybe they could do something where they have 2 factions that you decide to pick from in the storyline and then those individuals are always tagged in red so at least you know who’s friend or foe. Won’t happen but I do miss that about WoW.
BTW, my friend is playing MoP and showed me the other day…holy cr-p on how bad that game looks….looks soooo bad and outdated…lol.
You left wow to fine something new or different but in the end instead of accepting what is new or different you insist on turning that game into the same game you just left. In short you basically saying GW2 is wrong for not being a WOW clone.
Good job Arenanet.
I second that motion.
We’ve relaxed our anti-exploiting system for loot and events.
What does that even mean ?
I have confirmation from a dev that it is considered exploiting as it is no different than a macro. He mentioned that there would likely be disciplinary action, likely a warning at first and up from there.
All in all, don’t do it. It really is no different than using a macro/bot. When you’re playing the game, you’re suppose to be playing it.
Except for the part where no third party app and no scripting is being used…
Was it a really a dev or just a clueless GM? Any proof of this exchange? For privacy reasons I’m not giving names as it was his playable character. He had his ArenaNet tag and was telling us what he did on the game, and that he was a developer. He said what I said. It’s against the rules. If you don’t think it is, go ahead and cheat and be banned for it. That can be your proof.
Yep I did saw that post too. Just remember when you do get banned don’t be crying that you didn’t do anything wrong and that you didn’t know it was a bannable offense because you do know. We told you so.
“As Mike explained, we’re committed to fighting botters.”
Then explain to them, please, that this word does not mean what you think it means. The current actions seen being taken encourage players to run bots on a second account through a proxy if they want to have enough in game gold to compete in a botting driven marketplace. Botting and being banned every few weeks is still incredibly lucrative and places non botting players at a severe disadvantage in the Black Lion Trading Company.
You can’t claim to be committed when the current actions are allowing the many bots out there to be extremely profitable. That is not fighting them… that is encouraging others to do the same.
If that’s what you believed that go right ahead and start botting too then. But when the banned wave come don’t expect any mercy.
Ok lets have a show of hand here. How many people here want to see a obese female with revealing armor ?
To me “END GAME” means me fighting/killing the last boss of the game. It does not mean that its time to get on the gear treadmill grind. I don’t need 40man raid or 25 not even 10 man raid in fact it wouldn’t bother me at all if there was no raid.
“Trust me on this once the damage has been done and a player quits 99% of the time they are not coming back!”
Oh I don’t know, WoW’s chock full of resolute quitters, I’ve met plenty of them.
Seriously though, why does it matter to you that people out there don’t agree with your sentiment that the mechanic is horrible? I’ve always been curious about that, it’s a very odd way of looking at things. So they don’t care about it as much as you do. Why pull out that old, tattered, terribly tired pejorative “fan boy”?
Oh yeah, tribalism.
Your question goes both ways: Why do you defend a mechanism that doesn’t affect you in any way?
If you enjoy doing various things and the diminishing returns do not affect you, then what is your problem against someone who actually wants to do that? And why do you have to go as far as assuming they are wow fanboys as well and calling them “wowtards”?
Oh yea, elitism…
We don’t dictate your play, why do you feel the urge of dictating ours?
Nope, not guilty as charged, I’m probably a lowest common denominator gamer, someone who just gets on with it, and if I dislike something enough I just move on.
What gets on my wick is every single counter-argument on both sides of an argument being reduced to name calling. But that’s MMO forums for you, why have a debate when you can just pull at the hair of your opponent instead?
Maybe it’s just my age and a little wisdom that’s gathered on this old rolling stone, but I realised a while ago that when MMOs are run like a democracy it becomes an exercise in polishing a kitten I choose instead to work with what I’m given. Some things are worth having a debate about, ANet’s decision to employ DR in an effort to combat bots that literally sit in a single area for hours on end seems reasonable to me, especially considering that it’s so easy for a non-bot like me to entirely circumvent with some good old fashioned circulating around the maps.
Far be it for me to suggest some of you try a different approach when you’d evidently prefer to keep chucking fuel on the fire and cause a conflagration. Carry on.
Maybe its just me but my opinion is that some if not many of those who are complaining that DR is ruining their game. I think they are the botter them self and its effecting their ability to bot.
As things stand now…anyone, regardless of level, experience or gear can join any group or DE (outside of dungeon instances)…no questions asked.
When you start letting someone else make the call on group make-up using whatever determining factors they’ve come up with…then you’re a raid and group dynamic becomes exclusive rather than inclusive.
This mindset is what so many of us can’t stand. And, as I understand it…what ANet is striving to get away from.
Yep I agreed.
Its easy to make it hard for yourself. Just self impose the punishment. Each time you die, you can delete the character or destroy the piece of equipment that was damaged. That way you get to enjoy your punishment while other people enjoy their fun game.
You sir have just won over 9000 internet points. I really like your idea and I think people should do just that if they think there is not enough punishment in the game. Nothing get the blood pumping more then having to delete a toon each time you die. Come on people I’m looking forward to seeing you delete your toon on youtube.
Ok OP how bout you and your supporter provide AN with a real working solution to this botting/hacking problem instead of just blaming AN for being lazy.
Im always afraid when Anet promises a fix. Cos this will happen:
Anet Forum Manager: Dude complains about the fight being too boring, he said… too easy, he said…
Anet Dev: I’ll give Zhaitan a 99999dmg AOE, lets see them having fun with that!!!When dealing with Anet, sometimes some things are better left untold…
I agreed with you on that, we all should be careful what we wish for.
I hope they never add in Dueling. Make no scene why they would be thinking about adding in Dueling now when they already made you nameless in WvW to prevent harassment. The winner will rubb it into the face of the looser call him/her a noob , the looser will cry that the only reason he/she lost is because the other person was using noob tactic etc… Best part is while I’ll be trying to quest or make a transaction with a npc some poor sap will run up and try to duel me like I got a big neon sign on my back saying Please duel me.
Well OP I guess it’s up to you to be our Savior and make that game that is completely new and never get boring and also “revolutionary” and not just a wow clone. Come on OP prove to AN that you are not just nerd raging , show them how it should be done.
Honestly, people like you don’t spend a dime on a game if they don’t have to pay a monthly fee, so well good riddance. And yes, I know it’s a generalization and an hyperbole, I was just trying to make you feel more at home
I’ve given RIOT Games and League of Legends probably close to $750…
If you do a game right and you stand by your player base as good as RIOT does then yes I pay up. If you pull stunts like yesterday and then tell your players to shove off. That I won’t tolerate.
What is this RIGHT you spoke off ? Sound like if you don’t like it then its not right. Therefore it start to sound like self Entitlement.
the game is pretty but it is very shallow. I know alot of folk dislike the holy trinity but without it is what we have now, it a now zerg or dodge harder. Which does not really make for a lot of tactical or strategic value. For the record i have completed all the story dungeons and explorer modes and i only got stuck once. When the boss bugged out , in no way was i ever skill challenged and i was never with a super skilled organized group of mates.
nope i ran alot of PUGs and still was never really challenged ( ok the middle boss for the Arun dungeon required some know how ) .
my issue is that the casual players do not really realize how important it is to feel progression. I can already see plenty here jumping down my throat shouting GTFO BACK TO WOW , but really do you login to any of your single player games just to look around? because that will happen to GW2 soon.
Good that’s very good now when some poor person cry about the dungeon being to hard and need a nerf I refer them to you.
Uh? Let’s kill all money-making methods, they’re all exploits.
Dungeons were meant to be GROUP events not solo speed running fiascos like GW1 had.
How are people soloing it?
You can 3 man Arah explorable for a quick 8 tokens and 2 chests in 15 minutes.
Bug out the first mob pack and everyone runs to the first boss.
Pull the first boss mobs separately and kill them.
Loot chest.
Run around the perimeter in the first room to a small crack where you can jump over the wall using swiftness.
Kill the 2nd boss.
Loot chest.
Reset the instance and repeat.
wow I wouldn’t be surprise if the next banned wave is because of that.
Dead player do no damage so I suggest you go range if it mean you not dying.
OP go start a Kickstarter account and make your MMO so we all can see how good it is.
I remember back in the LK era where I would tank with one hand on my DK. Those was the good old days cause I could tank while eating and watching YouTube at the same time. Now gw2, that gets all my attention. Can only eat before or after the fight. But hey at least I’m not bored.
what commando set ?
Those of you who need help should post what server you are in so that maybe someone who is from the same server who have see this thread could help you in game.
Yeah the lack of follow haskitten me off but the trade thing isnt so bad with the mail being the way it is…the thing I didnt get was not being able to mail items or money to one of your own toons…seriously…dumb freaking limitation there.
All your character share one bank account so that mean what ever you put in the bank be it gear/material/gold all your other character have access to it. So who’s is seriously…dumb now ?
I don’t know about you guys/gals but if I was to proclaim myself to be a hardcore PVPer my carrot would not be some virtual goods, it would be the real money I get when I become the king of the hill in a real tournament with real money as the reward.
