- Wait come to think of it noone is taking mesmers on the team anyways.
Team Pugging uses a mesmer.
Thanks for the constructive feedback! You make a lot of good points, though I am curious about one thing:
In #1 you’re saying that you can’t understand enough of the combat without being latched on to one specific player. Then, in #2, you say that epic skills should have epic animations. If we did #2, would that help with #1?
I see a couple problems with following players while shoutcasting; First, it puts the focus mostly on 1 entity in the fight, when there could easily be things happening around/behind that player that the casters might miss due to not being able to see them. Second, it is more difficult to control what’s happening with the camera. There isn’t much we can do about this as we can’t tell players to sit still so the camera doesn’t jerk around.
So, it makes me wonder if these two problems, maybe even #3 as well, would be alleviated with better skill tells and maybe less skill effects. Either way, I think we have a few options to help with the problems you feel happening in the shoutcasted matches.
FYI – ESL tourney had 1.8-2k concurrent viewers during the stream (not to mention #s from non-English streams). Maybe Blu can share with us the total number of unique viewers during the stream – but if it’s anything like the other GW2 tournaments, it’s probably around 30-50k unique viewers. I’d say that’s pretty good considering the LoL championship and GvG streams were happening at the same time!
About the effects; the one thing I think needs toning down is the Guardians constant blinding white light. That combined with a white floor for a capture point make things really hard to see for me.
There was actually a time I think some guy was bugged and I couldn’t see anything he was doing because he was just gleaming all over the place.
have you tried confounding suggestions
50% chance on daze for a 1 sec stun
Chaotic Interruption is pretty much the same thing. A daze and an immobilize simulate the same effect as a stun and it is more guaranteed.
Add in tons of stability and group protection…. We may not over take guardians. But a mes guard combo…. Lets just say….
http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/293/590/6f6.gif
Dude, even before the patch the combo would still be good. If a team was to take Chaosangels Boonstorm/Chaosmancer build into a team fight, that would be crazy boons infinatum. Throw in the update and you have something so beastly that I would actually call it OP.
I originally hated the Axe… then I noticed I never knew how to use it. Then I made this build and found that Axe can actually woop some kitten .
I am looking forward to how this mantra buff will work… I may run a PU mantra healer build…. Gonna be interesting. lol.
Oh my goodness… that is going to be painful to fight against….
Awesome things were said…
The funny thing is that I also don’t like the idea of charging up my heal skill which is why I opted for Ether feast in the build rather than MoR. Yes, if a fight is prolonged, mantras become a liability and the ability to reset is crucial to making them effective. I consider it part of the way the build should be played. They could probably do something to alleviate that a little bit though.
The thing about team fights is that, you should be able to count on your teammates to peel for you. You shouldn’t really need MoC if your Guardian has stability, you shouldn’t really need MoRes if your Guardian still has shouts to clear conditions so all you need to focus on is MoD which can be used offensively and defensively. When you do get a chance though, it’s best to have all of them charged up but you definitely have to do a priority check each time you have one or all of them on CD in a team fight.
Also, if you play with Staff, using Chaos storm and casting your mantras in it is another cool way of ensuring that you can charge all of them up without being interrupted or getting trained down (if the enemy doesn’t have stability that is).
This spec when the mantra buff hits will be very very decent. +1 for using all mantra utils
. Also nice video explaining your spec. I’m going to test more of this spec, as it is really neat.
Thanks, I try to do my best with explanations, tips and tricks that I learn along the way. Hopefully you’ll find the build fun and formidable even before the buffs.
all maaaantra utility?
::tilts head::For the love of mantra charging, why?
You can replace 2 of those mantras with a different skill if you feel like it, but personally I’m okay with mantra charging. I’ve never really had a problem with charging mantras in a fight, usually because I don’t spam them like crazy unless I’m outnumbered. So I usually have at least 1 charge left if I play really conservatively.
Check out my Shutdown build; https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-CeiMash-s-Shutdown-Mesmer/first#post2848154
Uses full mantras and it’s pretty fun to play as well.
I like mantras as they are (as seen with my new shutdown build) but any improvements to them would be welcome.
Hey guys, another week and another build video. This week I put together a shutdown mesmer that seems to work really well in 1v1s (and soon, team fights!). With the help of mantras and the new and improved halting strike, the build aims to put an end to all those annoying things mesmers hate…. including themselves. Check out the video below for more info, tips, tricks, the who, what and why and check out the different build variations for each of the different game formats (for PvE it’s basically my own version of Chaosangel’s Chaosmancer).
I honestly cant imagine turrets ever being considered op (viable at best), it would take some drastic changes to get them that far.
Thats one discussion we will never have to worry about
I can already win most of my fights even against infi-stun warriors with a well placed turret at my back. I feel it’s kinda OP now but obviously when loads of people start rocking it, it will become “because everyone is playing it, it’s OP!!” kinda like how people said HGH was OP for a while.
Fear the ability to continually immobilize THE RIGHT TARGET with the Net turret, FEAR IT AND FEAR IT NOW!
Not if the rate of fire is still bugged and the overcharge doesn’t work consistently.
The overcharge works consistently for me. The only problem would be the rate of fire but you can always throw in an immob from another skill in the time the Net turret isn’t doing it’s job.
2. Everybody else is getting big/mass condition removal
I wonder what Well of Power is or Plague Signet is or Putrid Mark? Can someone please tell me what those are?
Also we have AoE condi application, AoE condi removal is quite lacking on other characters except a few.

Mesmer running around spamming illusions…? That works for you? Really?
Have you ever fought a PU mesmer? It’s literally all they do. Run around in circles, hitting stealth and creating clones to spam condis.
Have you ever fought a spirit ranger? It’s all they do, run around spamming spirits and auto-attacking with shortbow.
Oh no wait, lemme try again.
Have you ever fought a Necro? It’s all they do, spam minions and run around spamming conds.
Why does Mesmer always get picked as top op class.
But…… you specifically mentioned Mesmer though…..
(edited by Dirame.8521)
I had a suggestion to make the engi use a staff as well but mine focused on the idea that the Staff was a lightning rod/Tuning Fork with ranged attacks. You can see my suggestions here.
I posted on that thread, hopefully something they look at is the disproportionate strength of elixir and/or kit builds compared to gadget and/or turret builds. It seems that even the most successful gadget or turret builds use a kit or elixir in them. I think kits and elixirs are too far above gadgets and turrets, the latter needs to be bumped up a couple notches. The targetting issue will help turrets, but I don’t think it will be enough when they still die very quickly and are immobile in a game designed for mobile combat.
Fear the ability to continually immobilize THE RIGHT TARGET with the Net turret, FEAR IT AND FEAR IT NOW!

Every class has a way to knock or pull people off so, I don’t think it’s a big deal but I do believe the Skyhammer should be the one to break the flooring and the walls open for people to take advantage of those rather than people breaking it themselves.
That will just turn the map into a competition of which team has a better suited person for knocking somebody out the skyhammer pit. It means that if maps are randomized that there will always be a tendency for teams to have heavy CC, making the map inherently bad for encouraging a fluid TPvP meta. We already have trebuchets and repair kits in Khylo; this was an unnecessary map that I believe could have had its development time put towards the other modes Anet has vaguely mentioned.
Other maps are pretty much competitions for the secondary objectives as well so, I don’t see your point. Forest is like that, Temple is like that, BoK is like that.
Stealth classes can easily take out whoever is on the Hammer without them knowing. Backstab or pull them off. If a team focuses on the Hammer too much they risk losing the points and in that way it just balances out.
You can make the Skyhammer dodgeable and that won’t make it too overpowered. Make it dodgeable, make it the only way to break barriers and it becomes a game of who can better make use of the Hammer to take out enemies fast. Rather than who can pull enemies into hole from stealth or get a person to dodge into a hole by mistake.
I loath this map… when I do spvp, its just in a random join game, so when Im fighting to defend a node, I dont need some mega laser making my job nearly impossible.
Cant even count the number of 1v1 or 2v1’s ive been in and would have won if i hadnt been screwed by that laser.
Certain professions having iWin buttons when in the vicinity of the edge of the map isnt cool either. Nor are the glass floors, although those havent caused me much grief.
You can tell me to just “mind my surroundings” but the fact remains that this map favors certain classes/builds heavily over others, and I dont pvp to play against the terrain, I pvp to combat other players.
It’s all about positioning and if the other player can take advantage of your bad decisions or if you can take advantage of theirs. Every class has a way to knock or pull people off so, I don’t think it’s a big deal but I do believe the Skyhammer should be the one to break the flooring and the walls open for people to take advantage of those rather than people breaking it themselves.

While it seems logical to some to have pets dodge when the player dodges it really doesn’t suit a BM build where most of the damage is dealt by the pet and during that time the ranger is just trying to stay alive.
People ask for aoe reduction yet they never use guard which is a 33% reduction skill in addition to positioning. I wished it was a fkey skill. While some skills will one shot you coupling weakness (very underrated condition and protection is usually adequate to survive.
Granted our access to weakness is a bit limited. Maybe a trait that makes pets deal weakness when we dodge.
Rangers can have a crazy amount of weakness uptime. Black Bear and Main-hand Axe.
This is definitely a good way to add more pet functionality without skill bloat which is what the devs seem to be afraid of.
Ranger is the weakest class but not because you can’t do anything with it, but because ‘good’ builds available to ranger are all gimmicky trash that get nerfed month after month. This class is extremely poorly thought and if in one year we have only seen two major builds born (bm/spirit) and nerfed to the ground, this class isn’t going anywhere. Anet refuses to truly sit down and fix the kitten class and instead abandon it and suggest everyone to use the Wrongbow cuz OMFG it has stealth now, must use!!!!
All I says is, they shouldn’t have gotten rid of Preparations…. Just saying…
All I can say is….12k Maul crits incoming….
I don’t think 15% damage boost will let it hit 12k. Highest I’ve hit is like 6k on a glass spec on a glass target.
I hit for 10k on squishies, 4k on bunkers. My pet does 6k on squishies. I’ll be doing 12k come Oct 15th.
Just to add to the above, these are a few things that are called out that could affect us specifically:
Guardians
We reworked Purging Flames: it now removes three conditions from allies in an area effect around the guardian on cast while still burning enemies (enemies that enter or exit the flames are still burned). Once the skill has been cast, it then reduces condition duration for allies who remain in the consecration’s area.
Rangers
The Bear condition removal isn’t strong enough, so we’ll be improving that.
Mesmer
Power Cleanse: We wanted to add some condition support, and made it so that this skill can remove 2 conditions from 5 allies.
So it does appear that to combat the condition heavy meta that are increasing other classes abilities to cleanse. We’ll see if this will go overboard or not. I can see some tweaking back and forth in the future, either to ensure conditions have a chance to do some damage before they are totally cleansed, or possibly to clear partial stacks rather than the entire stack.
Conditions will always have a chance because cleansing is all based on cooldowns. It will be a lot harder but they will have a definite place.
(edited by Dirame.8521)
All I can say is….12k Maul crits incoming….
A step in the right direction.
My response?
Nerfhammer incoming
Buffs to the size of our fire bomb not registering to anyone?
EDIT: It’s like Anet takes a look at all my build videos and goes; " I like this guy, let’s buff all his builds so people play those more." Needless to say, I’m a very happy camper right now.

When we get cast bars maybe.
Blindly interupt spam on point isn’t a viable enough reason for me to run it, And every other situation I’d rather just take the strait up 20%
That being said I don’t think it’s a bad trait
I play it without cast bars and it’s way more skill based that way. Spamming blindly will see you lose. I’ve gotten quite good at watching animations to the point where, when cast bars are added, I’ll be really sad.
there’s nothing skillfull spamming rups and deal damage from HS when it counts even on autos… just sayin. The skill isn’t bad but there’s much better options.
You go ahead and interrupt auto attacks. I’ll just interrupt the things that actually matter.
yes, because gw2 has a lot of skills with significantly different cast animations and long casting time worth using a rupt on. I know you said this to sound ‘smart’ but c’mon now, its gw2 we’re talking about… an mmo with no cast bars lmao
I’m the one who has played the build. I do know what I’m talking about.
Really, the only argument you have has already been made by a different person who said; with all the effects noise, the effectiveness of the build drops, which is true. When it comes to animations though, I can tell what abilities to interrupt. Sometimes I spam and in those cases, I find that I’m less effective. In fact I had a fight with a mesmer and in a different situation, a thief, that made that fact quite apparent to me.
So yea, you may believe that GW2 has animation issues (which in some cases, it does) but that hasn’t affected my effectiveness with this build.
okay and what animations are you looking for to interrupt? I mean if all animations were as obvious as the Mass Invis one i’d agree but its far from being the case. No cast bars, same hard to read animations on everyone and not being able to load your skill bar with a lot more rupts than what’s available (you know, to actually make HS truly useful?) is the reason i will never consider HS or run a rupt build for that matter. Its just not effective as its once was in gw1 and will never be like that in gw2 cuz its streamlined to dem casuals.
Do you want me to list every skill I interrupt? To narrow it down, I usually interrupt skills that have cast times longer than a half a second or if I see a distinct animation. The hardest things to interrupt for me are the Engineer turret and Ranger Healing spring heal skills because those are half a second cast times. I catch those sometimes, usually by guessing the percentage people usually decide to heal at but I don’t always get it right.
Yes this isn’t GW1 where you can just stack your bar full of interrupts and laugh your way to the bank but it’s still pretty good and I enjoy playing it. Especially against Necros.
When cast bars are implemented it will make things easier but I’ll enjoy interrupting heals like a pro for now.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that Engineers are one of the best classes. Have you tried any other class? Warrior is easier to play but just as (or often more) effective. That means its better.
Our toolbelt skills are weaker than normal utility skills, our weapons aren’t that great because Arenanet wants to force us to use kits, our downed skills fail at their primary function, and 50% of our skills are useless when untraited. That’s a problem with the class, as I’ve said many, many, MANY times.
EDIT: My original comment was too harsh but even when I tried to come up with somewhat of a constructive argument, I could already hear your retort and I just gave up.

Valid point.
The thing is a few of the runes that I even mentioned allow people to stack durations on certain effects but maybe a bit less of that is needed? Who knows….

Hey all! So I recently watched the SOTG vidcast and I heard that Anet would like to reduce the amount of runes available in PvP. I have a few suggestions on what runes to remove and it would be nice to get the community’s input as well. So here’s my list;
Rune of the Baelfire
Rune of the Centaur
Rune of The Flame Legion
Rune of Strength
Rune of the Warrior
Rune of the Engineer
Rune of the Ice
Rune of the Krait
Rune of the Monk
Rune of Dwayna
Rune of Rage

You guys who haven’t actually played your builds should consider mine. Played and tested for weeks. Sure you can replace some utilities if you feel like it but this is what I enjoyed bouncing around with.
Although, I do feel like it’s missing some survivability.
so hi guys,
As an example: The upcoming patch “Tequatls Rising”. u make yourselves so much effort to change the worldbosses but pvp? who the hell cares about tequatl? WHO? I mean, havent u got time for something useful (Pvp cough)? Do u really think that tequatl will be made more often?!
First off, do you know how long they’ve been talking about fixing bosses, dragons and dungeons? If you actually read the PvE forums months ago you’d have seen the same complaints you’re having now about production being slow and how they will never fix bosses because of casuals.
Secondly, you’re right. PvP production is slow, they need to make up for all the things they said would be in at launch but aren’t.

Given that Arenanet has yet another unnecessary nerf for engineers incoming
Source?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Condition-nerf-incoming
How is this even a definite? In the SOTG they didn’t even mention shaving Engineers it was more Necros and Rangers. But we’ll see anyway.
Two things:
1. People are always hesitant try change what is working almost perfectly (condi-spam).
2. I dont believe there are too many players left that actually care enough to theorycraft an entire team-setup, and then practice with it for an extended period of time.Do you want to? I’d be willing to work with someone who wants to make a counter-meta team.
I’m always trying to come up with counters to the meta and sometimes I find the answer without knowing it. I’ll definitely be up for forming a team with such a goal. I’m on EU.
Everything about this game is easy. It’s honestly one of the most simplistic games I’ve ever played. So when a build is easy, even in terms of this game, yet is one of if not the strongest available, obviously people aren’t going to like it.
“Easy” is a relative term.
People claim something is “Easy” when it is popular. S/D thief? Popular therefore it is easy. Shatter Mesmer? Popular therefore easy. Stun Warrior? Popular therefore easy.
Those two things are not mutually exclusive but as long as they’re getting killed by something you don’t quite understand how to counter, and it is being adopted by a majority of the populace, it is officially easy.
The only thing that needs to be changed about this map is how the disappearing platforms work. Make them break only when the Skyhammer hits them, make the game more about using the Skyhammer to get rid of people fast.
The meta seems to have been defined by what teams like Team Paradigm, TCG or CC were playing but now that those teams don’t play as often or stream as often, the “meta” is no longer clear for the masses.
This thread would have been great last month or two months ago. People already know that Warrior’s counter the current meta but it’s already too late. The classes have now been called out for nerfs and nerfs are incoming.
sadly, the loudest people tend to know the least on forums sometimes.
like slick shoes can be consider weak on PvE but great on PvP.
Irony! Slick shoes are not a good choice in pvp but i am just a loud noob right
- 9mins 40 sec.
Lol so because Teldo says it’s bad in PvP you’re going to follow him? Are you also one of those guys that thinks FT/BK are the only kits we can use in PvP?
A more skilled player should always beat a less skilled player.
A less skilled warrior can beat a more skilled engineer.
And no. Our toolbelt is nowhere near as amazing as all the diehard Engineer fans claim it is.
Our toolbelt skills are much weaker than normal utilities. The toolbelt would actually be useful if it gave four skills that were as powerful as utilities.
Skill ceilings for each class is different. And if an unskilled Warrior was to beat a skilled Engineer then that engineer probably made a mistake somewhere in the fight.
I don’t know if it is sad or hilarious that throwing the toolbelt wrench do more damage on a shorter cooldown than throwing the off-hand shield.
Yes yes, there is the CC part of the shield throw. But frankly, CC means crap all outside of PVP because mobs simply have too much health.
It’s not even about the CC. The shield is a defensive weapon, damage isn’t it’s forte.
Personally, I’d like stealth on Toss Elixir S.
Smoke fields and plentiful blasting/leaping for Stealth is already available to Engineers, but Stability just isn’t an option. We can use Elixir X, but as an Elite form skill it’s obviously limited in viability. There’s also that atrocity mortar elite that no one would use even if it were a standard utility skill.
That’s the primary basis I use to justify removing the stealth option on Toss S. That and those two effects, stealth and stability, are used for wildly different reasons; stealth doesn’t help in a situation where you need stability and stability doesn’t help in a situation where you need stealth. RNG between the two is plain ineffective, at least with U or X there’s a common situation for their use.
We’ve only got 2 smoke fields and one of them you can’t use on demand. I like stealth, stability is nice but, I like stealth.
I only just noticed the change today. I felt it to be a ninja patch.
