ok, so i’m stressing about which char to pick as my main for wvw.

I have levelled, and geared with exoits.

Warrior 80
thief 80
guardian 80
Mesmer 80

so far, im pondering the most over warrior and thief.

anyone able to give me some in sight into these two for wvw?

I’m always outplayed, because I suck. fact remains tho, I don’t understand all the thief whining when warriors are so over the top, I know they are since I can actually kill people with a warrior, that’s how I know they are over the top.

warriors have 100x more utility, survivability and 10x the single target dps, they can also be more mobile with the right weapon sets, and over all have better weapon setups and more rounded talent tree..

This is some thing that really needs to happen.

Each commander gets to set the color of his shield, this will also change the color of his chat text.

That simple change would help so much!

OK, try this.

Turn vsync on, this will normally stop capacitor noise.

if it is still there, it could be a failing gpu fan, or dirt caught in the fan.

IF you still have the noise and it is not the gpu, or psu than it is your sound card, so update the driver, under high load you may hear sound artifacts, try lowering the sound setting in game.

if you still have the noise check all your fans.

They are not the best 1 v 1 class.
They do not have the highest dps or burst.
They do have high mobility but not the best mobility
They can stealth alot, but its easy to counter if you think about before whining.
They can escape a battle at will, but that means they lost.
They have aweful group utility
Most of their weapon sets suck
They are forced into a single spec because the rest suck

i could go on with this, but the reason you are whining about theives is not because of the thief, its because you got caught with your pants down, and in your shock you panic and died.

No one likes to lose, deal with it, if you’d have seen him first you would have killed him, do you think he would be here whining about which ever class that was?

its starting to bother me alot..

WHY DO we have no range attacks! every other class can use some sort of 1200 ranged attack?! why not thief?! why do we have to jump up on a wall to even have the chance to hit anything in a keep siege (before we die instantly to focus)

im so sick of watching rather than getting into the battle, we need a ranged attck of 1200

There are no zones, no portals into the realm of others servers;

The EB would be placed at the centre of the map, the other battle zones would be placed at the other sides of the map, One large main keep would defend a choke point leading into each servers battle zone, the zones would be exactly the same as they are now, but all on one map.

There would be no instant killer guards at the citadel, but they would be boss hard, a server can lay siege to a citadel only if they own the EB main keep and each main keep of the server they intend to siege, you also cannot lay siege to a citadel out of peak hours.

laying siege to and winning a citadel debuffs that server with a 20% stat"disgraced" debuff that last 1 hour

the victors can spray their guild marks about the citadel to let the losers know who was there.

they also get a phat loot chest, ton of karma and 20% stat boost for 1 hour. only one citadel can be taken per hour, they take 12 to reset.

This is main reason i dont game on laptops, unless its a full out high spec overpriced alienware gaming laptop, but then you could get a better spec desktop for the same price.

any way, make sure you get a laptop fan intake stand to help airflow, make sure the fan in takes are always clean and clear on the laptop, get evga percision and set fans to make when gaming on the system.

wish you luck with your RMA on the laptop.

check for heating issues, with cpu, memory and gpu. check to the PSU to see if its maintaining voltages underload, if these all check out fine do a full uninstall of graphic drivers, reinstall the drivers. make sure you turn any program off that interfaces with directx, meaning things like onscreen display, evga percision or anything that overlays graphics onto the screen.

IF it still crashes, att .5 volts onto your cpu and .5v onto your memory, if it still fails.

You may need to reinstall windows, win 8 is pretty sweet. if you still crash, you either have a hardware issue or the game hates you

I’m running this game on windows 8 and 8.1 and it runs better compared to win7.

i don’t know what you mean by install? my gw2 client is pretty much just one large file and one exe ??

i’d like to start by saying im not new to the game, i have as follows >80 warrior, guardian, ranger, mesmer.

I’m not gonna say i’m pro, because honestly i pretty much suck with some of those chars and some i get on well with.

So, the thief, people whine and moan, call them a newbs class, point fingers calling them overpowered easy mode.. so to fill my last slot i made one and all i can say to those complaining is.

Bullkitten, im sorry, i can compare pretty much all the classes and the thief is a total kitten to master.

half the weapon setups suck, the other half req good timing and a good ping, i mean lets take the perma stealth? first you need to waste 3 utilitys then you have to use half you init on trying to jump through your own combo field, if you are moving while you do this you miss the jump, its a total pain in the kitten .

the mid range weapons like gun/gun that look cool are a total joke. worst skill set i have ever seen!

then you get whines about backstab thiefs?! most use zerker gear, a thief in zerker dies instantly if farted on, and kitten if they spin on the spot you cant even get a backstab off, its no wonder people spam HS.

dont even know why im writing this, i guess its just the disgusted shock at all the whiners who need to try the class, fail then kitten.

yes thiefs are powerful in skilled hands, they freaking need to be with the crap they gotta put up with, but then all classes are powerful in the hands of the skilled…

i run an i72600k at 5ghz with 16gb of ddr3 2 ssd in a raid and a Mssd for windows, i use windows 8 and run 2x gtx 690s.

Whenever i played the game i’d get crashing to desktop at random, this would be within 30 mins to 5 hours or not at all, it was totally random, i also use to get screen freezing, but was able to task switch, some times i even got bsod, gw2 showed the error as C5, cant read memory, but i had no memory issues.

As a system tech and system overclocker, i blamed the game, of course it wouldnt be my system, NOT my system, its totally stable; no matter what i tried the game kept crashing.

last week i noticed something strange, it had to do with the pcie lanes and the voltage phasing for the cpu, apon closer inspection and testing i found that the motherboard has been degrading due to the strain of my overclocker and hours of use..

I changed to a new motherboard, i have had the game running for 5 days nows, nonstop, i had some one help me with that . not once have i crashed.

So people, if you are crashing, and if you are like me and refused to think it was your system at fault, then stop, while it may be a game issue it could also be your system like it was for me.

we need more info, what spec is the system, how much memory, how much storeage, how many storage drives, wwhich version of windows are you using, which drivers.

Does it do it in other games? could it be overheating? could the psu be overloaded? was the system build with gaming in mind?

when you say slow down, does it run fine, then suddenly slow down for awhile then speed up then slow down again?

if so, you may need to clean out your laptop fan intakes, it sounds like throttling.

finally found the cause of my crashing.

well, it turns out to be a degrading motherboard due to my 5ghz overclock, I put too much strain on it.

So those of you crashing to desktop all the time, don’t discount failing motherboard.

well, its meant to be bad, since I cant actually log in, I thought I would make a wonderful ranger nerf post before anyone else does.

also, when the pet dies it runs back to its master and follows him around, even in stealth.

Dear Anet.

please nerf Ranger, they have a pet that is totally useless half the time, the other half is spent trying to get it to attack anything without it dying or getting lost in lag.

Nerf ranger stealth, they are able to shoot me at 1200 ranger and then re-stealth, I cannot find them, even when they have a large pet standing next to them in passive or dead following their every move in stealth, its just too overpowered; Its outrageous that a range class like this can stealth now, even when every attack they do screws the stealth making its use virtually useless!

Please nerf rangers before the game is renamed to guildwars 2 rise of the ranger!

So! this is how I assume it works!

A Sylvari pays a charr, the Sylvari rubs up against the charr coving him in pollen, the Sylvari sends the charr off into the world to let nature take its course!

classes should have skills used only in wvw.

Engineer,
a supply deport, cost 200 supply, holds 150 supply, can be place anywhere last 30 mins. reuse timer 360 seconds.

Thief,
ability to scale outer wall of keep, and trail a rope down behind them. only two people may use the rope, if the thief is attacked while climbing he falls and takes 10x fall damage, anyone on the rope at that time will die.

after using this ability the thief may not enter stealth until he gets his breath back, 10 seconds. ability cooldown 45seconds.

Mesmer,
the Mesmer has the ability to clone 10 people(players, if no other targets, it will clone the caster) retain 20% of targets health, the illusion last 20 seconds, for the duration of the spell the Mesmer is weakens and loses 5% of their damage.

Necro

has the ability to use the bodies of friend of foe, the targets have to be in a dead state, friends will be instantly resurrected but only retain 20% of their stats, foes will be resurrected, but as minions.

the spell drains the necro of all life force, and he cannot store any more for 30 seconds, he is also weakened by the effort, lowering stats by 10% for the duration of the spell 20 seconds, after 20 seconds all who were revived will die. spell cooldown 400 seconds.

guardian.

gives his life for his group, the guardian will die and become the a angel all who are downed for dead around him (up to 10 players) will be revived at full health, the guardian will be able to cast boons apon those he has saved, after 20 seconds the guardian enters a downed state and those who were saved will lose 20% stats for 20 seconds. skill cooldown 400 seconds.

warrior

The warrior inspires his group, making all those around him immune to all control effect for 6 seconds, they gain 10 seconds of fury. after 10 seconds have passed all players who were effected are rooted in place for 5 seconds.
cooldown 250 seconds.

SO today, I buy my shopping, I let some guy go infront of me, because he had less to shopping.

He buys a scratch off card, money multiplier; I buy two of the same, I finish my shopping and head towards the exit, the guy rushes back into the shop.

HE HAD WON £2000 THAT TICKET WOULD HAVE BEEN MINE if I were a kitten like everyone else in my area..

What really kitten ed me off was the fact that he had a sports car worth atleast 60k and was wearing more gold than mr T with is trade name clothes…

Just like to clear this is, this is not my first time in this wvw game or pvp.

the WvW zones are too small meaning smaller groups get owned by zergs, the servers are too slow meaning you cant do a kitten thing while fighting a zerg or being part of one.

When you zerg everyone loses their identity and become the minion of the commander.

fix: actually spend some money of a good wvw server, merg all the wvw maps into one large zone.

the more like daoc the better.

so, I have been away awhile, mean while my bro was playing the account, he deleted my thief, any way to recover this char?

You enter WvW, you look at the map, you see a commander shield, you run to the shield, you have no clue what is happening, all you know is to run to the shield.

A Thief duo instantly kills you.

You look at the map, you run to the shield.

You get to the commander, you spend 1 hour following a group of players, all of which are unable to perform any kind of attacks due to lag, we all spend our time tab target auto attacking, we gank solo and small groups, feeling like we are pro as we do this.

we attack a keep, a kitten whom can’t read tags too early.

a larger zerg eats us like a fat man to a pie, we respawn, and blame each other. we log out until the zerg has gone, please start from the beginning to find out what happens next.

So people, what has been TODAYS most frustrating thing?

For me it has been this.

I kitten and whine, rage and rant about my old Logitech keyboard, it had nasty keys that you had to thump to actually get working, it was stained with all sorts of sicky things, it even had a new form of life growing on it.

In my rage, after losing again(because I suck) I threw it off the table where it promptly bounced back and smacked me in the face. holding my bleeding nose I stompted on the keyboard; i realised it was still connected to the computer the clue was the blue screen of death.

so I buy a new keyboard, a nice shinny corsair k70!

and now I suck even more then ever I had at the game, because the keylayout and feel is so profoundly different . Oh the pain of relearning muscle memory.

It just does not work!

Use it on an incline, you teleport back to same location.
Use it on a moving target, you teleport where they were, not where they are.
Use it and they just get out of range, the skill fails.
The root rarely takes hold

OMG its pretty much the most important skill for sword users and its totally broken!

so, I have a keen eye for performance and color so when I updated to windows 8.1 I was surprised, here is why.

the good!
First off, textures look a lot sharper, and text looks a lot better!
things are a lot more optimized, smoother.

the bad.
More driver issues, and the game seems to run alittle slower for me on 2x gtx 690s.

People complain about thieves because.

they get sick of being a zerg zombie, they move out solo, for abit of real 1 on 1 2 on 1 pvp.

one of the following happens.

They explode. a back stab thief has killed them within afew hits.

They evade the thief in time, or have enough defence to out last it, the thief vanishes, and stays stealthed until their cooldowns are back, then attacks again and wins due to them not having cooldowns up.

They get perma trolled by a thief they cannot attack due to chain stealthing, cannot chase due to insane mobility and die to because they just cant be arsed to put up with it for hours.

Get instantly killed by a thief duo that are abusing perma stealth self combo.

half of the victims come to the forums to vent their rage.

consider adding more instruments to the Market, the flute is so much fun, it would be awesome if we had the full set like stringed instruments and maybe some brass!

you are having a driver issue, please FULLY uninstall your graphic drivers, run a driver sweeper, making sure all driver reg keys and bits are gone, reinstall the drivers and it should be fixed.

also you may have tools such as evga precision running that link into the drivers, this can some times cause the issue.

also, make sure you are using either the 320.49 drivers, or the second lot of drivers down because the last revision of the drivers were unstable with this game.

i know you issue well, i have had it a lot.

I can confirm, there are afew exploits with this mini game, there are routs you can take they bypass large parts of the map, people using it will be first every time

Take a look at the thousands of thief videos exploiting the perma stealth and soloing 5 or more players.

EVEN if they are bad, no other class can do that, and its all due to the fact that Stealth = untargetability+detarget utility=takes no damage+replan and setup fight at leisure

there being no real viable means to get a group for anyting ingame is a core game issue.

MMO are a social game, the lack of this key feature is a killer.

please PLEASE ! PLEEEASE! make some kinda dungeon/group finder for gw2, its insane to think all new and mostly rubbish mmos have better lfg tools, neverwhinter for starters.

I DO NOT care about a silly website, I want that kinda thing INGAME not some web-page.

You know what, this is what would happen if they Enforced smaller fights..

rather than seeing WAAA zergs are boring, you’d see WAAA this game sucks its ruled by premades, premades are rolling over the pugs WAAAA change wvw so its pug only.

I don’t like:

Chaos armor, I never seem to get the armor, and the conditions are now on a long cooldown.

Image, its almost totally worthless, what is it even meant to do other than waste an illusion slot.

I don’t like how the warden doesn’t move, its way to easy to counter. it needs to be gtaoe

I don’t like how I need to die to get the awesome assassin illusion.

I don’t like how slow the phantom attack cycle is.

I don’t like how so the illusion are when you send them into mind wreck, its like watching a fat man chase usain bolt.

I don’t like how slow the sceptre attack projectile is

I don’t like the greatsword animation.

I don’t like the sword clone transfer root, its so buggy.

i’m not a zergling, I just accept it is part of a WAR game.

Strategy can trump numbers, this is true in life and in game, running around in a blob means those players lose their identity, a lesser group who good leadership can out move the larger force, an even better smaller group can focus target key players, and perform an organized retreat while another group takes a key location.

in the end their zerg will have to split or lose keep.

in the end its all about stratergy, if you have no good commanders or players able to do it, then well.. your screwed.

I’m sorry, I just don’t understand you people.

World vs world, this implies WAR, WAR is not a 2x 2 x2 or a 10 × 10 × 10 fight, if you enjoy small scale fighting all the time, you can always go play those battlegrouds.

WvW is world vs world, three servers fighting, its a game of stratergy or bruteforce.

There will always be zergs in war, in real life and in games.

If you can’t face that fact, wvw isn’t for you.

So after reading a lot of the replys I get the impression that;

None of you have denied the the pro+ to the class I stated (being highest dps and burst, speed, mobility, escape ability, class synergy and overpowered stealth)

But most of you totally denied the cons- those being that the class is worthless in a group and that the class is forced to solo for this reason.

you do know what that means if you are right and the thief is viable for group and zerg warplay while still being the best at everything else.

Overpowered. so, think hard. are thiefs group viable.

Zergs are part of wvw, there is no way around it, its here to stay, however what if there were a way to encourage or force smaller fights? This might be achieved by;

10v10v10 Dungeon in a wvw zone, where only the high ranked player can enter this persistent zone, filled with elites, traps and rewards. you fight your way to the bottom, and claim a relic that bolsters your whole wvw side with stat bonuses. taking the relic applys a 30 min lockout, after which it has to be defended from opposing realms and epic mobs.

dungeon towers, for all ranks, these towers appeared from no where at random over the wvw maps, you can enter these solo or in groups for 10v10v10, taking a tower gives minor boosts to stats.

please post some of your ideas

Well, in regards to the most boring class to fight, in my opinion it would have to be

Thief.

Reason:

When fighting a thief, or being attacked by one, one of two things usually happen;
You die in 3 seconds flat;
You get the upper hand, they run away and reset.

You cannot chase a thief, you cannot run from a thief, they hold all the cards, in a one on one you are at their beck and call, if they want to stay and fight to win or lose they can chose to, if they want to get away they can do that too, you have no choice or course of action, you can only flow with the battle and hope he does some thing really stupid.

There is nothing in this game more annoying and boring than you being attack by a thief, perfectly counter his attack, get him to 20% health, he then evade super sprints stealth’s resets and comes back to own you because you have none of your cooldowns up, and no means to counter their insane speed or mobility and stealth.

i7 2600k 5ghz
SSD 600 mbs read write speed.
WINDOWS 8.

I get 100 to 200 fps, all settings high/ultra (water set to only water because it buggers ambient occlusion)

I do get CTD some times, and the rare bsod, but over all it runs fine of windows 8, actually seems a lot more optimized compared to win 7

I have seen the revealed condition on thiefs, but im sure it doesn’t work, because I quite often seem them use stealth, attack lay blackpowerder, leap stealth attack again, stealth again Aoe stealth attack, lay powerder again… it goes on forever it seems, not once did I notice reveal do anything.

Why doesn’t it have an internal cooldown, why can it be used one after the other with skills and combo fields, why is it the servers are so slow that by the time the server updates the thief attacks and taken the thief out of stealth you have already taken most of the burst dps(depending on your reflex and defence cooldowns) then he promptly re-enters stealth.

Why can he exploit stealth to reset the fight at will, forcing the other player to fight with 0 cooldowns and face a stomping.

imho the insane thief damage is fine, the way stealth is exploited is not, its way too powerful, I mean if it were like a pred alien cloak it would be fine, but its more like 100% invis, you don’t even get damage numbers if you hit them while stealthed(not that I have seen)

My fix would be to add a 5 sec internal cooldown after a stealth effect ends.

So, I travel to the bazaar, I take a stroll by the river side enjoying the epic view when suddenly its starts raining charr, it occurs to me after the first few charr splattered face first into the floor that they are not cats at all.
